Welcome to the Dig Church Family. This podcast will serve as a way for the church and the home to connect outside of the church building, providing parents and spiritual families with a resource to dig into God's word together. As always, when we dig, we're deepening our understanding, igniting our curiosity, and growing as fruit-producing, God-glorifying disciples. During this season of the dig, we'll be digging into the book of Ephesians. Each week we'll drop three mini episodes: one to deepen our understanding of what we're reading that week, one to ignite our curiosity and how that week's scripture fits into God's big story and the good news of the gospel, and then one to help us grow as fruit-producing, God-glorifying disciples. Today's mini episode of the dig is for igniting our curiosity about what we've been reading this week. We'll be chatting a little bit about what's happening in this passage and how that fits into the bigger story of the whole Bible and the best news ever, the gospel. This week we're reading in Ephesians chapter 1, verses 15 to 23. Just a reminder, Ephesians is a letter by the Apostle Paul written from prison to the church in Ephesus. Paul is writing to remind them and us about the gospel that he proclaimed, spurring them on to perseverance in the faith and end in suffering, and encourage them with the blessed hope of the gospel. This week's scripture that we're reading is Paul's prayer of thanksgiving and enlightenment for the Church of Ephesians. Paul is praying that the eyes of the reader's hearts would be open to see the truth and the power of the gospel. And love for everyone. Clearly, the church in Ephesus was known for these two characteristics. To his requests that he's bringing to God on behalf of the Ephesians. He asks that they grow in their wisdom and revelation or in their understanding of these specific things. In verse 17, he prays is for the Holy Spirit to reveal or teach them about who Jesus is so that they can know him more. I love that verse. In verse 18, he prays that they would understand the hope that Jesus' followers have for what is to come. Eternal life. Eternity with the Lord is a future gift that each believer can anticipate in this life today, but won't experience until after this life. This future hope is a tremendous motivator for a holy living, sharing our faith, and for a life eternal with Jesus. Verse 18 is also where Paul prays that they would understand that God's people are his inheritance. Another way to say that would be that God's inheritance is in us. Then in verse 19, he asks God to reveal Jesus' great power to the believers. Paul makes it really easy for us to finish up this week's Ignite mini episode when we talk about how what we're reading from each week fits into the gospel message. He finishes his prayer with a great summary of God's power, which is displayed through the life. At the end of verse 19 and verse 20 say that the power is the same as the mighty strength that he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead that and seated him at the right hand of the heavenly realms. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is inside of us because when we put our faith in Jesus, the Holy Spirit moves in or dwells within us. Talk about good news. Do you believe and live your life knowing that the power of the resurrection is at work inside of you? As you turn off this mini-episode, your mission is to pray and talk through this question with your family, with your friends, or on your own. Are you ready? Think about a part of your life that needs to be a touch of God's power. Is it your attitude? Uh your relationships. How could God use his resurrection power to transform?
