Hi. Oh, shocked then. I've never seen you look so excited. It's exciting. Oh, look at you.
SPEAKER_00Can you hear me? Yeah, I can hear you fine. Oh, right. You might have a load of like bird noise because it's just like being in a zoo. Oh. Cookaburras. Cookaburras got woken up by cookaburas this morning. Awesome. Still annoying. Very annoying. I do not miss them. Oh my god, I was like, oh, they're so cute. Oh my god, they're so annoying. I just remember how annoying they are. And then there's like these parrot things, these lorikeets. And they look they're beautiful. They're like parrots, obviously. But they're really loud and annoying as well.
SPEAKER_01Oh good.
SPEAKER_00I'm glad you found something annoying over there. The wildlife section of the podcast. How are you doing? Yeah, not a lot of things annoy me over here, I've got to say I love it. Oh are you giving me a talk? Do you want me to do you want me to show you round?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Look at my view. Hang on. Oh, look at that. I know, and the beach is just the beach is just over there. Oh it's been raining though.
SPEAKER_01It's been raining. Well I've noticed that you've got a jumper on.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's not well, it's not boiling hot. It's been scorching. Oh shut up. It's been really sunny. I know it has, I know. People keep sending sending me messages. Lovely here, nice here. Just going to the pub here. Sunny here.
SPEAKER_01Everyone's been drinking outside today as I drove home. Oh, really? It's not that warm, is it? Yeah, it's been really warm. It's lovely.
SPEAKER_00How warm? How warm? T-shirt weather. Wow. I've got a jumper on. Um no, I mean we were on the beach yesterday, to be fair. It's like it's not, it was raining yesterday morning. We went on a walk, which went down like a lead balloon with the uh two grown children. Yeah, as you can imagine. Got bitten by mosquitoes, you know. Bit of moaning, but the general vibe has been very good. Oh, really? Oh yeah. Oh, it's been cool, yeah.
SPEAKER_01What was your reunion like with Olivia?
SPEAKER_00Oh, well, to be honest, because we were so tired, because we'd had like two days of trying, I mean, it was just ridiculous like a journey, but we kind of like she she came down in the lift in the hotel to that's because she had to let us in. So we were all stood there waiting for her to come out of the lift, and I've got a video of it, I did video it. Oh, did you? Oh, good, I was gonna say that, yeah. Yeah, and then we were all just like cheering outside the door because we didn't land, well, we didn't we can get there till about midnight, and we were all just like going, yeah, woo!
SPEAKER_01Oh man, so I mean, how long did it take you to get back into normality? You must have been just totally up.
SPEAKER_00I was bad really for the first day or two, really. I mean, the fact that we still we stayed in Ho Chi Minh, didn't we, for two nights, so that kind of got us a little bit, but yeah, we it was it was arduous, yeah. Um, I know, but never mind. You kind of forget about it though, like now I'm here. I mean, like the first like 24 hours, I was like, I get putting in a complaint, I'm going for the like you do, and now I'm like, oh well, you know, these things happen. Bit like childbirth, yeah, is it yeah, yeah, a bit like that, probably nothing like that at all. But yeah, so it's all been good, yeah. It's been a bit of a whirlwind, really, it's been so busy, has it? Yeah, because we've just not stopped really, we've just been like on the road, stopping for a couple of days, stopping for a couple of days. But I mean it you've got to, haven't you, really? We've not really got that long. You just like drive part, you know, you could drive for like four hours in this country and go, Oh, I could see go and look at this, and there's a waterfall over there, and I can go there and you you can't do it all. No, God, no, no.
SPEAKER_01Oh, it's amazing though. And what does James think of it all?
SPEAKER_00Oh, he loves it. Really? Yeah, seen a change in James already. Oh really? Oh yeah, yeah, I know. He's like he's begun really, he's quite chilled out and he's just been going off fishing on his own and yeah. Oh loves it. Oh, that's very um it's a really good culture over here because they're at they're very early morning people.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Which I didn't I've never seen, obviously, in action. But everybody gets up really early and goes out exercising and it's not a boozy culture at all anymore.
SPEAKER_01Oh really?
SPEAKER_00Oh.
SPEAKER_01Oh wow.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, not at all.
SPEAKER_01Oh man.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they're quite it's almost like again, they're almost against it. It's like quite can't drink, can't smoke, and there's a lot of rules. Oh, really? Yeah, it's a bit ruly, yeah. Which I don't know whether that's good or bad sometimes. But I mean, obviously I'm not on the backpack of scene, so I might be talking absolute shit up to that, but yeah, sure there is still, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, I mean, i I suppose they're trying to protect their culture, aren't they? Trying to protect their their way of life, so they've they're putting all these rules a bit like the anti-um social media for kids.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it is, but they it's all about protecting the young ones, yeah. And that's what it feels like. It feels like they're trying to provide a good place for young ones. Yeah. Oh, that's good. Because it's quite there's quite a lot of old people here. It's quite a lot of older people, yeah, yeah. I mean, I know we've gone like, I mean, obviously, Byron, Byron, you wouldn't even recognise. Byron Bay just doesn't look like Byron Bay anymore.
SPEAKER_02Why?
SPEAKER_00All built up. It's no, it's not built up, but it's quite um, I don't really know how to say it. It's like quite pretentious, it's quite posy. It's gone beautiful. And you know, it was quite hippie, wasn't it? It was really hippie, so it's not like that at all. Um, but there still are places like it. I think they've just just changed, yeah. Right. But yeah, still beautiful. Yeah. Can you hear the birds? It's so loud.
SPEAKER_01Can't hear I just heard them then, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. Um, but yeah, so we've got how many days? So we've got today and tomorrow here. So we're with Andy and the kids, which has been really nice. Are you staying at their house? No, we're staying in an Airbnb. They've just moved house. Yeah, I saw that on your message. Yeah, we got we got here on the Wednesday, moved house on the Thursday, Friday. Yeah, so we were there helping them last night.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna say, do you think they've done that so that you could help them?
SPEAKER_00I don't know.
SPEAKER_01They were apologetic. It's very quick, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00I mean, it was quite funny. Oh good, buggy. Um yeah, but yeah, so they're in a new house, but it's been nice to see the kids really. Um, yeah, so we're for two days and we're going to Sydney. Oh, lovely. Yeah, we're in Sydney, so we're gonna go and find I've gonna say, please, will you go and see 28 Wall Street?
SPEAKER_01I will definitely go and see it.
SPEAKER_00Well I'll take these up.
SPEAKER_01Oh I'm so excited. Dave sent me a picture of a Vimto in the supermarket the other day.
SPEAKER_00Oh, did he? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I was right, yeah. I was wrong. Sorry. Yeah, they definitely only have Fizzy Vimto.
SPEAKER_01Fizzy Vimto, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Weird that isn't it? I I think Vimto, whilst they're in obviously in the process of sponsoring the podcast, yeah, yeah. What they could do is relocate us to Australia.
SPEAKER_01Oh, to sell Vimto for us. In Australia, yeah, yeah. I I mean we're big in Australia, we're big in the game in Australia, so I think we'll do it really well.
SPEAKER_00We are big in the game, so you know the the listeners will be running to the supermarket to buy the Vimto. We're such influencers. Oh yeah, of course. Oh, what's going on in the UK? I know I've been taken over by Pat. Did you have a good we did?
SPEAKER_01We had a good we we had a nice record this morning, yeah. It was really funny. Um I think uh I will we had a she had a few tears because she hadn't realized that you were leaving James when you come back to the UK from Australia. So I broke that to her and she had like separate on your behalf, so that was fun.
SPEAKER_00Oh, did she?
SPEAKER_01Oh no. Oh but yeah, no, we had a really good chat. We had we had a bit of um so the I I don't know if it if you've watched it, but the Louis Threw documentary about the manosphere is what everyone's talking about. Interestingly, I watched it with the kids. Oh, did you? Did you? Yeah. So we had a big conversation about that this morning. What did the kids think of it?
SPEAKER_00James was very quiet about the whole thing. I'm not sure what he thinks of it because I think he he's aware of these people, so he's obviously watched them. Olivia was absolutely appalled, and then she switched it off before the end.
SPEAKER_01Oh, did she?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, she said I can't watch this, it's awful. Dave couldn't watch it, he got and walked out. Which I was fully expecting, to be honest. Yeah, it's not. I mean, it's like a it's not real, is it? It's like a big like it's like puppetry almost, it's not like they're real people.
SPEAKER_01Well, I said that to part this morning. They're actors basically, aren't they? They're playing the part of something in order to monetize a belief. It's a bit like religion, isn't it? We you know, you you put someone who's pinching a religion or a cult out, they're playing a part to to monetize it. And the but the sad thing, the thing that was sad, I think, is that it's all teenage boys, young boys who've fallen for their shit, really, isn't it? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Terrible. And they're all giving them money and they're all losing money.
SPEAKER_01I know, I know. So yeah, we had a nice chat about that, but our theme this morning, so we'll um by the time because I'm gonna this is gonna be crisis talks next week. Yeah. So I don't have to do anything else. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, so the episode that people will have listened to on Monday is um if you could start again, would you do anything differently? Good topic, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00That is a good topic.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Hmm. Maybe you live in Australia.
SPEAKER_01I know. I know. But then you wouldn't have the life you've you wouldn't necessarily know what you've got.
SPEAKER_00I I'm not a believer in things like that. You shouldn't regret anything.
SPEAKER_01No, but that's what we came came to the conclusion of.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, life sends you down these paths. I've had lots of conversations with Olivia about this all week. Because she's not sure about what to do, and she's still I think she's still got feelings for the boyfriend, it's all sorts of yeah, all over the place. Shall I stay in Australia? Shall I come home? Shall I do the and I was just like, look, you're having a nice time at the moment, just climb the hill in front of you and see what happens.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, so yeah. So they're going to Melbourne for a week after we leave them.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_00Oh, it's quite it's quite funny actually. They're going to they're flying to Melbourne when we fly to Brisbane. So we are actually leaving each other in the airport.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I know.
SPEAKER_00I know, I know, it's gonna be terrible. Oh no. Yeah, so um, yeah, they're going to Melbourne, but they've just spoken to week and that's it. And then I just said, look, see what happens.
SPEAKER_01See what happens, yeah. Oh gosh. Yeah. She'll be fine. She'll be fine, she'll make whatever decision she makes, and it'll be the right thing. Yeah, so yeah.
SPEAKER_00Although, yeah, she's on about going back to Brisbane. She loved Brisbane, but it is such a nice city though.
SPEAKER_01Is it? You see, I don't I just remember it being dull in Brisbane.
SPEAKER_00Dull. Yeah, I know it's nice. It's yeah, no, it's nice. It's really like everything's there, it's all like organized and clean and yeah. I mean, she's obviously found a bit of a life there, I suppose, but yeah, yeah. I think it's when you say dull, do you mean like the nightlife and stuff?
SPEAKER_01I don't know. We didn't stay there very long, did we? I think I literally passed through in one day. Yeah. I don't remember very much about it. I don't remember what was what they were or uh it's just a big city, but it's lovely. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00If you were gonna design a city, is how you would design a city. That's how I would say it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like everything works. The transport, all public transport, okay, this this is amazing. All public transport is 50 cents.
SPEAKER_02What?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So she can get down, I don't know which area it covers, but she can get down to the Gold Coast for 50 cents. No. So you can get all around the city and then trains down to yeah, 50 cents.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, how do they do that?
SPEAKER_00I've no idea, but everybody uses it more, I suppose.
SPEAKER_01Um you would I suppose, wouldn't you? I mean, yeah no one can afford to travel anywhere in the UK at the moment. You No, that's what I was like.
SPEAKER_00If I was like 50 cents, that's like 25p. Yeah. 25p we're getting done, I'm telling you. Like since I've been here, you do walk around going, well, in the UK this costs that. Well, in the UK this costs this. And um and and genuinely, even eating out, which is probably the most expensive, drink like egg alcohol drinks out um, if you're out, are more expensive, but not by a huge amount. And food like meat, it's the same. It's the same price.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00And when you look at what Olivia earns, it's double what you would earn in the UK. Really? So make that work. Yeah. So yeah. Just decided we're getting done.
SPEAKER_01Well, we'll all have to move there, won't we?
SPEAKER_00We'll all just have to move. I don't think it's that easy, that's the problem.
SPEAKER_01No, I know. They don't want us, do they? They definitely won't. No, no, no. We're we're old, we'll be a we'll be a a what's the word, burden to society.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we will be. I definitely will be. They won't want me. No chance. Oh. Yeah. It's all good though. Oh, I've got these as well. Oh, amazing. Tintams. I love them. I can't remember what Olivia called it. They're sucking your tea through the hole in the top.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, it's a thing in tech coffee, I don't know. Yeah. Not for me that. Just eat eat it like a normal chocolate biscuit.
SPEAKER_00Just eat it, yeah. Not had any other weird snacks. Had a few VBs, had a few two is news.
SPEAKER_01Oh, two is new? Yeah, I'd forgotten about that one. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh. I want one. Oh, come on. Come out here. Take four days to get here.
SPEAKER_01I know. So what's your journey back looking like? Have you even looked at it yet? Or no. No.
SPEAKER_00I'm not even I'm not looking at that until I get to the airport.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00Um it's fine. I think it's alright because it's direct the flight back. So we're flying back. We're going to Kuala Lumpa. Right. Two three days. Three days in Kuala Lumpa, just me and Dave. And then we're flying direct back from Kuala Lumpa to London, so it should be alright.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't think there's any Middle East interference. But who knows? Well the problem with coming out here was the fact that there were so many flights being cancelled.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then they were adding in extra flights, or there were loads of people just like in the airport and in hotel was just stranded, obviously, waiting for like additional flights that were being put on. It was chaos.
SPEAKER_02Oh god.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. But I'm not dwelling on it. And that's not going to happen on my way home.
SPEAKER_01No, you'll be fine. You'll just breeze through.
SPEAKER_00I will.
SPEAKER_01No problem.
SPEAKER_00I felt like a pro. The last one when we got on from um Vietnam to Brisbane, I was like, oh, this is a breeze. Eight hours. Absolute breeze. It wasn't, honestly. And even James was like, well, this is nice. This is quite easy. This is a nice plane. Like everything else. Oh my god, it's eight hours. I don't even care.
SPEAKER_01Did you actually get any sleep at any point on the way there?
SPEAKER_00Uh no, no, not really. So we've set off on oh god. On the Sunday, we went, we ended up being put up in Heathrow in this hotel. So we had about three hours, three and a half hours, and then we had to get up and get on another coach to go back to Heathrow. Oh my god. And then obviously we had a 10-hour flight then to Delhi, and then we have 15 hours in Delhi airport. Oh god. And the hotels were all full. Yeah, because we had no hotel.
SPEAKER_01Could you not could you leave the airport?
SPEAKER_00No, couldn't leave the airport because you need a visa to get out. Oh shit. And they wouldn't give us one, they wouldn't give us a temporary visa. Oh my god. Yeah, so I thought it was like Tom Hanks.
SPEAKER_02Oh God.
SPEAKER_00James was like James just went and got pissed. He got he got pissed and then went and met loads of like made an Indian friend, made two girl like these girls who were travelling to so he's got all these mates who were like giving him rupees and as you can imagine.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I'm like that. Oh my god. And then we had another, so there, how long did we have? It was only five hours then. Five hours to O Jim In.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00It's like a zombie.
SPEAKER_01Oh god, I bet you were. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But oh worth it though. Oh, it was worth it, yeah. It is worth it. Beautiful day here now. So I'm gonna go off. We're gonna go for a walk. Coastal walk. Nice. I mean the coastline, you forget what the coastline's like here. It's just unbelievable. Yeah. Just look at that, look at that, look at that. He's pulling over every five minutes. Yeah. Did see a shark. You did? Yeah. Where? Off the coast here. A grey nursing shark, apparently. They're nice ones. Oh right. So it's fine. I did get in the sea, I got in the sea. Yeah. So they're they're yeah, they're nice sharks. Uh seen some turtles. Oh. Yeah, saw some turtles. Saw kangaroo. Not seen a koala, that's my only issue.
SPEAKER_01Well, I don't remember seeing any outside the zoo when last time we went. No, that's what I said. I don't never seen one.
SPEAKER_00Olivia's seen them in the wild.
SPEAKER_01Has she?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh. Don't they have chlamydia? Koalas. Do they? I'm sure there's something about them having something like chlamydia. You'd like you've got to really wash your hands after you've touched one.
SPEAKER_00Oh, really? That's a terrible fact. Why would you spoil that? Why would you spoil the cutness of a koala?
SPEAKER_01I would just spoil all koalas for all people.
SPEAKER_00I'm so sorry. The loudest bird in the world. Why are there so loud birds over here?
SPEAKER_01They've got a lot of space to fill, haven't they? Have you seen any big spiders?
SPEAKER_00Saw one yesterday, yeah. Don't know where it was. I've already did it like the plague. To be honest, I haven't really known no spiders don't really bother me, oddly, yeah. I'm more annoyed by the mosquitoes.
SPEAKER_01Hmm.
SPEAKER_00I don't remember mosquitoes being bad. Not really. Oh they're vicious here.
SPEAKER_01Are they?
SPEAKER_00Kind of like yeah, I we're we're kind of by like a lagoon here. And I just think don't be near water.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00They're massive. Fattys.
SPEAKER_01Are they?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Oh. Yeah, I've just got like big welts on me.
SPEAKER_01Oh nice. I don't dwell on the bad things. No, don't, don't, don't, don't. Do you want to see something funny? So we've got um, I don't know if I'll be able to lift my laptop up actually. We've got uh Freya's gone to a party. Neil's just dropped her off, he's just got back. So any any Freya updates? Is she alright? Yeah, she's fine. Not doing a lot of revision, having a lot of fun. Parties? That's gonna change. That's that's gonna have to change soon. But so she's got four four mates or three mates staying over, so I don't know if you can see, but this is their pile of shit that they've just done in the office, so it's not in the way. Oh my god, that's like more stuff than I brought away for a month. I know. Well, I suppose it's th there's school blazers and stuff, but I didn't even know it was in here. I just come in to do this call. I was like, Trip chocks spread at the stuff across the house.
SPEAKER_00So you've got four girls staying at your house tonight?
SPEAKER_01Mm hmm. Oh, happy days.
SPEAKER_00Up on Neil.
SPEAKER_01I know. Well he's just dropped them off. And they were they've literally been Getting ready with the bangers on. So loud. So just like, oh my God. It's lovely, it is lovely, but kill me now.
SPEAKER_00Well, I remember what we were like. We had the bangers on.
SPEAKER_01I know. It's the coming home bit that that bothers me.
SPEAKER_00It's like what have you got pick them up?
SPEAKER_01Well, the Neil's just messaged to say that they want to get an Uber back, but I'm good. Still think they're a bit little to be Ubering back from parties on their own.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, I did use to I used to order them for them. Yeah. That was probably when they were about 16. I used to order because then you'd just track it.
SPEAKER_01So she's got she's got an account on my account, so she can order it.
SPEAKER_00I can't. Yeah. So like let me know when you're in there and let me know. Yeah, okay. It's not too bad because then you've got the you've got the details, haven't you?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I suppose, yeah. Yeah. Anyway, fun times. Fun times. Fun times. So we'll see Cheryl.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, Cheryl.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_0050-year-old Cheryl.
SPEAKER_01I know. Old bear.
SPEAKER_00That was Claire's weekend. Was that nice?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we had a great time, yeah. Standard.
SPEAKER_00It looked good. Yeah. Standard.
SPEAKER_01Peak too soon.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Everyone wanted to stay out all night and we were home for 10 o'clock. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh no. Yeah, we had a great time. Was everyone leathered? Yeah. Yeah. Very, very, yeah. Oh, really? What were you or not?
SPEAKER_01No, no, I wasn't too bad. I um we just we did the usual like drank prosecco in this bar and then got back to the place and drank more prosecco. And so by the time you go out, I'm just like, I'm not I'm not really that bothered about having another drink. I feel like I've had enough. So dear. But it was good.
SPEAKER_00Other people do not share that opinion. Absolutely not. No. I didn't know this. Oh well. They probably suffered the day. So did you just go for one day?
SPEAKER_01I went for one night and then we went for lunch on the Saturday, and me and Emma got the train home after that.
SPEAKER_00Oh right, that's all right then. Oh, because Emma had to go, was she hanging? Because she for me. No, she was fine.
SPEAKER_01She had to go to another party though, so oh no, double whammy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's a lot that, innit? Yeah, that is a lot. I not for me. No. Really, no, I've not really drunk much over here. You're not allowed. I was gonna say it doesn't sound like you're allowed to. No, you're not allowed. You have to get up at 6am, go for a run up the up the hilt nose joking, but no, I've not done very much exercise. I've walked every day, but and I've been in the sea, obviously, but yeah, I need to do more. You start to feel a bit blobby, don't you, when you're on holiday. Yeah, but that's what holidays are for you. Don't care. Yeah, don't care, don't care, don't care. Um, yeah. Oh god, it's hard to think I'll be home in a week. I don't know how I'm gonna adjust. Don't think about it. Don't think about it. At least the sun's out though. Yeah. And as I planned it, which I do say to myself when I'm here, I planned it very well. Because I've got, even though I do say to myself, I've got Easter weekend when I get back, and the clocks have gone forward. Oh yeah. Because I just said I'm not coming back when the clocks, the clocks need to be gone.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I'm not having that. So yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and now the sun's out, so it's all good. It's all good, yeah. It is it's light when I wake up now, and it's days like nice and late, so yeah, you'll be fine.
SPEAKER_00We'll all be adjusted. I'll be alright. I to be honest now, because I've spent so much time with them, I feel better about leaving them. It's really weird, but I feel like I've done the right thing and I'm kind of seen them and I can send them off. Yeah. I feel like I'm alright with it. Like that, and I'm excited for them now. Yeah. Like watching them, I'm like, oh god, it's so exciting. I wish it was me. I wish I was doing it again. And you know, it is though, isn't it?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Just the whole thing of oh, I'm going to Melbourne. I'm like, oh, it's so exciting. What are you gonna do after that? Where's it going? Where's your life going? It's so exciting.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean, James, like like there are jobs everywhere here for chefs, like everywhere you look.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So, you know, you'll be all right.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And Olivia will be too. She just needs to work out a plan, she, what she's gonna do next.
