SPEAKER_01

Hi, I'm Brandon.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm Abby.

SPEAKER_01

And this is Travel Trauma, a podcast dedicated to sharing traumatic travel experiences we've encountered during our trips.

SPEAKER_00

Short disclaimer, our opinions and experiences are our own. This podcast is not meant to throw shade on any travel tour or location we have visited. So take everything with a grain of salt.

SPEAKER_01

We're gonna we always say this, and you know what? We're gonna continue to say it. We are the issue, you guys. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And we just bring the trauma with us wherever we go.

SPEAKER_01

You know what? It's kind of fun though.

SPEAKER_00

That's fine.

SPEAKER_01

Portugal's been a long season. Or is this a season, or are we gonna do like a whole year?

SPEAKER_00

This is a season. We've been saying a season. Okay, so we gotta keep it that way.

SPEAKER_01

The next grip is gonna be season three. Oh my gosh, you guys. That's crazy. Also, by the way, this is our last episode for Portugal.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, this is the finale.

SPEAKER_01

I feel like it's gonna be a sad finale for them. Oh no, it's pretty good. But we left you guys yesterday or the previous episode, whereas Guy had gone off on her own food adventure and ate like own special food tour curated by her. I don't know how she ate all that food after we ate a full meal.

SPEAKER_00

So stuffed. Like with because she hadn't mentioned it. I was like, if I have another thing to eat right now, I will throw up. And then she proceeded to have like five more meals.

SPEAKER_01

The the two gelatos is what got me.

unknown

Two gelatos.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, dessert stomach's different, but even that was a lot.

SPEAKER_01

I'm really happy for her though that she got all the food that she wanted to try.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like I'm jealous at this point. I'm like, damn, maybe I should have just powered through.

SPEAKER_01

We should have. We should have. But I mean, we got all our stuff like packed and ready, so that's good. But for this episode, you guys, we're gonna discuss turning in the car at the airport in the mess that that was. The Madeira airport itself, because it's outside. Like, yeah, and the shrimp pockets make a re re Surgeons, and we're gonna discuss those again. Geronimo's monastery, Sintra, because we went back to Sintra, and the tile again. Tiles 2.0, the Tuck Tuck Ride, Palace of Penna, the picture restaurant, and then wine and cheese on a balcony.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So that's that's what we got for you today. So we're gonna just go right into it. So the previous night before, like we said, Skye was out doing her food adventure, and then we were packing everything. The whole entire time, I was trying to figure out how to turn in the car because there weren't any instructions that I could find. They probably emailed it to me. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna say anything bad about it because they probably did at the beginning. I could not find it in my email. So I'm like texting the man, like, hey guy, hey my man, how do you want us to turn this car in? Because I can't find the instructions and I need to be able to give you back, you know, your viewpoint. Yeah, and he's just like, just take it to the airport and put it somewhere essentially. I was just like, Can you be a little more detailed?

SPEAKER_00

Can I get that in more formal writing? So when you come back wanting more money, I can show this.

SPEAKER_01

Because he, because in the back of my mind, I was like, okay, we didn't actually get into the car at the airport, we went in a car to a dirt road to pick up the car, and that was not close to the airport, like that wasn't a walkable thing, it was not. So I was like, Does he want us to return it to the dirt road? Because that doesn't make any sense, and then this was over like a span of like two hours, too, by the way. So keep that in mind. He kept on telling me that he sent me pictures or like the information, and I'm just like, okay, no one's.

SPEAKER_00

Because he just kept being like, Oh, you should have them, you should have them. It's like, clearly, you don't have them, just resend them. Like, how hard could that be? Like, you should have them somewhat readily available, like just resend them.

SPEAKER_01

I was trying to be so dice about it, too, because I was like, Okay, whatever. But like each time I kept on asking because it would be like 30 minutes to 40 minutes or 45 minutes between the messages, and every single time I was just like, No, you have not sent them to me. This is why I'm asking you again.

SPEAKER_00

Our flight was early in the morning, so it's not like we could figure this out like tomorrow morning. Like, we needed to have the instructions.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, all things considered, I never received the instructions.

SPEAKER_02

So we get up in the morning and we take the car to the airport and we just leave it in a parking lot. Like a random parking lot.

SPEAKER_00

We were to I was like, Are you sure if this is okay? You're like, it's fine.

SPEAKER_03

So we just abandoned the car at the airport.

SPEAKER_00

Left the keys like in the car. Like, that's fine.

SPEAKER_01

I just I texted him and I was just like, We left it here. Hope you find it.

SPEAKER_00

No, I didn't say that, did I?

SPEAKER_01

Oh wait, I may have actually said that.

SPEAKER_00

But we have sending the instructions. It was like, we we're leaving, so I don't know what you want us to do with your car.

SPEAKER_01

I did not get charged anything, so apparently they found it.

SPEAKER_00

They've had the vehicle somewhere, could have been like a lot worse. Like, yeah, don't don't just like abandon rental cars because that was like the best case. That was the best case. But like I've heard like stories where even when people returned them, but it wasn't scanned in properly, like getting charged like thousands of dollars for like a rental car.

SPEAKER_01

So don't do what I did, but I did take pictures.

SPEAKER_00

It did end up working out, but not the best plan.

SPEAKER_03

But at the same time, what was I supposed to do?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like we had to go.

SPEAKER_03

We had to go. No, we had to go. We can't take the car on the plane.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so it is what it is, but that could have ended a lot worse.

SPEAKER_01

Anyway, that was the beginning of our morning. And abandoned our resident. Brought to a really good start. So we get through security at Madeira Airport, and we're walking down this hallway, and then all of a sudden it's like we're just outside, or you can walk outside, and it was just like this feels illegal. It did feel illegal, didn't it?

SPEAKER_00

I feel like uh the wall was like pretty big. I had never sitting area outside. I feel like I don't know if I have. I feel like I've maybe been to an airport before where you could go outside, but it was still really cool. It was really cool because like up close and personal with airplanes.

SPEAKER_01

Nothing traumatic there. We just wanted to throw that in because that was really interesting.

SPEAKER_00

Because we just stood there and looked at the planes. Weather was nicer though, because remember it was like kind of drizzling and it was also dark, but we still wanted to stand outside, so we just like stood outside for a while.

SPEAKER_01

We stood outside for a long time. Then we went inside and got a snack.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, more shrimp pockets.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so the shrimp pockets have come up a couple times, I think, on previous episodes.

SPEAKER_00

I love them.

SPEAKER_01

They were so good. So we finally looked up the name of them. It's I don't know how to say this. I you are gonna have to do this.

SPEAKER_00

I don't I don't know how to say it. My best guess is going to be Rhizosis de Camaria.

SPEAKER_01

Rhizosis de Camaria?

SPEAKER_00

Something like that. But it's a pocket of shrimp. It's yes, but today, so the one I had before was not heated up, like it was still good, but like could have been better. At the airport, they heated it up. It was so good.

SPEAKER_01

It was so good. I got two, it was so good, but we had to throw that in too because we've talked about it multiple times. I'm gonna link a little bit.

SPEAKER_00

I needed to let you know that heated up was better.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, and there's a link to the recipe.

SPEAKER_00

So if you want to make them at home in this cleaner, we have not tried to make them at home, so do at your own risk.

SPEAKER_01

So at the airport, like Skye actually is going home this day. So from Madeira straight to wherever she's going, or back to the Lisbon Airport, and she's gonna fly out from there. We get back to Lisbon Airport, and we didn't realize that we weren't gonna be able to say goodbye to Sky.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so she just kind of like disappeared in that.

SPEAKER_01

She told us that she was going through like her customs thing, and we probably would be able to see each other at the end of it or something.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we didn't.

SPEAKER_01

So keep that in mind. If somebody you want to say goodbye to at the Lisbon Airport before they go on another flight, I feel like we had enough after you get off the flight.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like that's like a known thing. Because if you're going It makes sense because we were leaving the airport and she was going the way if you had a connecting flight. So we should have known better because she wouldn't have left the airport if she had a connecting flight. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So anyway, Appy didn't get to say goodbye, and I don't think you've seen her since.

SPEAKER_00

Nope, literally, I haven't seen her since Portugal. Probably the next time I will see her will be in Croatia. The thing is, is we don't live that far apart.

SPEAKER_01

I've seen Skye. I've gone down to see her a couple times. I was just a bitch ass friend who doesn't want to go down there.

SPEAKER_00

I only see the thing is I go to Chattanooga in Atlanta all the time. What is your issue? It just never comes up. Um text Sky next time. Okay. Um but yeah, or she's just my friend that I only see out of the country.

SPEAKER_01

Anyway, you guys, that was a little bit of the airport portion of it. Now we're we're back in Lisbon, and honestly, my idea for this day was to go pool hopping because we enjoyed it so much.

SPEAKER_00

A chill day.

SPEAKER_01

We were we were chilling.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think we're capable of having a chill day. And this is just like in all aspects of my life. If I say I'm going out to do something chill, it's never chill.

SPEAKER_01

That was literally my intention this day. Like, seriously. I was like, okay, we could do another pool day, it's the day before our flights. Let's just not, let's just not. Let's just go to the Lisbon pools like we did in Madeira and just chill out.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So Lisbon doesn't have pools like the Madeiraan pools that we went to.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, which makes sense.

SPEAKER_01

So that that idea got shot down immediately.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Well, there was nowhere to go. We're like, no, it's a dumb idea. It was like, where? No.

SPEAKER_01

So our thought process was like, okay, let's go to the monastery. So we made the backup plan to go to the monastery, but we were gonna stop at the Airbnb first.

SPEAKER_00

We went to the monastery like the first day that me and Emily got there. We didn't go inside, like we just saw the outside.

SPEAKER_01

But today, going inside, yes, and it was early enough to be able to do this, which shout out to our Airbnb for a couple things, actually.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

First thing is the hosts were super cool. Like they had been texting me the night prior, trying to get make sure that like I knew all the information, and then in the morning they were just like, Hey, if you want to check in early, go ahead. Yeah, and like it was what nine, ten in the morning that they let us check in.

SPEAKER_00

Really early in the morning because we had our luggage with us and we didn't know if we were checking in yet, so we had gone to go get like a snack.

SPEAKER_01

A plus on their part. They were just like, Hey, we don't have any people, just go in when you want to. And we only had to wait like 30 minutes after getting back into Lisbon from the airport, and then we walked to our Airbnb and it was perfect.

SPEAKER_00

But we maximized our 30-minute time. We were like, Let's get more pastel than this. And we went to like one of the more like famous places to get them, which I don't do.

SPEAKER_01

Pastise de Belim? Yeah, if I'm saying that correctly. They were good.

SPEAKER_00

They were good. So we went there and we got them, and like it was great. You could like add cinnamon to these ones. Like, I had a little cinnamon packet, and you could just like put it on. It was good.

SPEAKER_01

Um, and then we walked to the Airbnb.

SPEAKER_00

We walked to the Airbnb and they got more. They had gotten us as like a welcome thing, the pastel donadas from this place, and Coke Zero, and like some other little snacks.

SPEAKER_01

I was just like, oh my gosh, this Airbnb is so many. Okay, but here's the one thing, you guys. Wait, another good thing about the Airbnb: the air conditioning.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they were cranking it too. Like it was an icebox in there. It was it was amazing.

SPEAKER_01

I thought I'd got and died and gone to heaven. Like I was so happy.

SPEAKER_00

This isn't like the Airbnb's fault. I think this is just Portugal in general, but the stairs.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my gosh, the stairs.

SPEAKER_00

So we already like, I mean, just Europe in general, like you're gonna have to walk upstairs.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, uh and the staircase was really small, and mind you, I have like a checked suitcase. My suitcase is pretty large. Finally, get to the top, and our Airbnb is like the very top, like the last like residence in this building. The last part to get into the Airbnb, I wouldn't even call them stairs at this point. It was a ladder, like it wasn't, it was crazy. Like, I had Emily had to help me, like, she went up the little ladder thing, and like I was pushing the suitcase from the bottom. You know what it reminds me of?

SPEAKER_01

You you know what it reminds me of? Have you ever like um been in a house where it has like the attic and you have to pull down the staircase? That's what it was like, it was like the ladder began to it.

SPEAKER_00

That was crazy. I remember just like turning the corner of the staircase and seeing that, and I was just like, oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_01

It didn't end though. Like once we got into the Airbnb, like my room was up another floor, and it was even steeper.

SPEAKER_00

Seeing that, I was like, Yeah, I'm not bringing my suitcase up there, so me and Emily will take the room down here.

SPEAKER_01

I was kind of afraid of like falling in the night.

SPEAKER_02

I was like, oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but all in all, but it was a great host, yeah, great conditioning, very stylish, wonderful balcony, but we'll get to that later on. A plus. So we just chilled chilled there, and like you said, we did and we showered.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we like made ourselves more perceptible, showered to put on more sunscreen.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but I think we literally sat there for like a good 30 to 45 minutes just in the air conditioning because you don't realize your body needs it until it has it.

SPEAKER_00

And I needed it. I think I knew I needed air conditioning the whole trip, but it just wasn't an option, so I chose not to think about it. Bring deodorant. We're like a portable fan.

SPEAKER_01

But we set the reel a little bit, and like we said, like the pool idea was not gonna happen, so we decided let's go to the monastery. And we were able to get the tickets online, so we skipped it, yeah, skipped that. Uh getting the tickets. The line was still long.

SPEAKER_00

The line was so long. We still probably waited like what, like 40 minutes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we committed, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And it was out in the sun, like we knew exactly what we were getting into, and it definitely could have been worse. But that line, like in the direct sunlight, is rough. It was just reapplying more sunscreen. Oh, all the haters out there about the amount of times I apply sunscreen.

SPEAKER_01

There were people like selling umbrellas, and I was very tempted to buy one.

SPEAKER_00

Look, people make fun of me for the amount of sunscreen that I put on, but you know what?

SPEAKER_01

I'm white, I'm super white, and I only get sunburned, so tasty, like an eggshell white.

SPEAKER_00

It's like a paint color, like it's white or red. Like, I'm not out here trying to tan, okay? That just doesn't happen for me.

SPEAKER_01

No, it's like all the tanning goes to sky. She's like so dark in the summer. I don't understand.

SPEAKER_00

As soon as the sun comes out, I'm just like drenching myself in sunscreen.

SPEAKER_03

Same.

SPEAKER_00

Or I put on like a long sleeve shirt. I'll wear long sleeve shirts in the summertime, and people are like, Why are you wearing a long sleeve shirt? And I'm like, look, I would rather be hot than get sunburned. So here we are.

SPEAKER_01

Anyway, we're waiting in this line, and we're committed, and it's burning up. But we finally get into the monastery, and I'm gonna give you guys a little bit of history on it. So here we go. Always check my facts though, but I did link a link to the history. Anyway, it was built in 1502. King Manuel had it built in honor of a successful voyage to India celebrating Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama. Vasco da Gama. That's a long there we go. That's a strong name. It took a hundred years to build.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like just it if this was only built, I'm sure it was built for other reasons too, but just to honor that voyage. That's a long time to build this building. Isn't that crazy? We probably did a lot more voyages in the time that it took them to build this building.

SPEAKER_01

It's it's with it's withstand the uh the test of the city. So they did they did a good job. Well, we knew we need those engineers back this in this day and age.

SPEAKER_00

No, I agree. The architecture now like low-key sucks. It's all just like boxes.

SPEAKER_01

It's sad.

SPEAKER_00

Where are the fun buildings? Like, there's no more fun buildings unless they're old.

SPEAKER_01

I want the gothic style back. Yeah, I want the arches and the gargoyles and all the other fixings on a building.

SPEAKER_00

Although that's all the other fixings on a building.

SPEAKER_01

Anyway, monks were monks lived in here, obviously, because it's a monastery, but they were from the Order of St. Jerome. The order, the religious order, was dissolved in 1833, and the monastery was actually abandoned. And then it essentially became like a crypt and burial ground for the members of the royal family, the Portuguese royal family. Now it's pretty much a museum and representation of Portuguese architecture and history.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like, you guys need to go and visit it. It's very pretty, really beautiful.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I really liked the hallways that were outside with like the big ceilings. Like, do you remember those? Like, I don't know, like the big one cathedral, like ceilings. I don't know. I'd like that.

SPEAKER_01

Also, do you remember the rooms of tiles? Yeah. Like all the pictures and like the faces on the tiles.

SPEAKER_00

There was like definitely like history going on, but honestly, all I just remember was the tiles had funny faces on them.

SPEAKER_01

They were hilarious. They were the sassiest looking faces, too. I have never seen such.

SPEAKER_00

They they were funny.

SPEAKER_01

I really wanted to like chip off one of those tiles and keep it for me, but then I guess that would be for Audapon.

SPEAKER_00

Probably.

SPEAKER_01

So no.

SPEAKER_00

Well, you just had pictures. I don't know. You text me, you use some of those pictures of those faces as like stickers for like reactions to my messages. I have so many. You just made your own like emoji stuff.

SPEAKER_01

I love it. I love it so much. But yeah, that was that was pretty much it for the monastery. Yeah. You should definitely go there. Just go there earlier than us because you just don't want to be in the street.

SPEAKER_00

We still went pretty early, like this day. But yeah, I would definitely like buy your tickets online and just go. And and do it, yeah. Definitely close to when they open.

SPEAKER_01

I think during it in the line we purchased we made the next decision in the line while we were waiting to go into the monastery, and that decision was to go back to Cintra.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

To go to the Palace of Pinna because it was actually open that day.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Because the wildfires in Portugal, I guess, were they were still going on, but they didn't close the Palace of Pinnah. They opened them.

SPEAKER_00

I guess there wasn't. I think they closed them before because there was a lot of smoke. Yes. I think the smoke had like died down. I don't think the the fires were completely gone, but they opened the grounds back up because it wasn't as smoky anymore.

SPEAKER_01

So immediately right when we pop out of this monastery, we get a grab.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we get a grab and go back. No, a bolt. Bolt. We get a bolt and uh bolt back to Cintra. Yeah. Back to Sintra.

SPEAKER_01

What do we do in Cintra?

SPEAKER_00

We We did a lot of walking.

SPEAKER_01

We did a lot of walking in Cintra again. It was just pretty to walk around.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we went and got more tiles.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

From the man.

SPEAKER_00

I forgot about that.

SPEAKER_02

The guy.

SPEAKER_00

And he tried to scam us again.

SPEAKER_01

I love this because like Ibly's just like, I want to go get some tiles now. And that seemed to be like the most unique ones that we've seen so far for sale.

SPEAKER_00

There's like a lot of options in that one store, too, because it was just only tiles.

SPEAKER_01

And it was just like, I know what we're gonna get into, but we're not gonna let him scam us. And he definitely tried again. It was just like hello, English for a minute, and then like all of a sudden he was like mute.

SPEAKER_00

Or just didn't know how to do basic math.

SPEAKER_01

But she did not get scammed, she got the tiles, and I think I got another tile there, too.

SPEAKER_00

You definitely did. You got a tile like anytime we stopped at a store, you got tiles.

SPEAKER_01

I remember this one. I actually really love this tile because it's a picture of sardines.

SPEAKER_00

It's so pretty.

SPEAKER_01

It's so pretty. I did not get scammed. Yeah, I was very close to buying one of his tiles that he definitely painted.

SPEAKER_00

I kind of wish that we did buy one because they were so cheap, and I think just for the story, we did not do it though. Uh yeah, but we just we really just walked around Sintra for a while because everything was just really pretty and picturesque.

SPEAKER_01

So we were like, yes, we had to have gotten food somewhere, but it must have not been very like I don't remember it, memorable. But I do remember being exhausted about to start the palace pinna, which I don't know what we were thinking.

SPEAKER_00

I think we couldn't get in into a certain time, or like we had tickets for a certain time.

SPEAKER_01

That's right, it's on time slots.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so I think that's why we had been just walking around because we didn't We had to kill some time. Yeah, we had to wait for our time slot.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, here's the thing, you guys. Like, we get to the point where you can either start walking up to The palace pinnap be driven up by a tuck tuck bolt or a tuk-tuck. And Emily was standing there, and she's like, We when she had been to Portugal before, she had been to the Palace Pinnah, but they had did the hike up.

SPEAKER_00

And she and she was just like, Guys, we don't want to do the hike up. Because it's not like a short walk, like it's like what, like a mile.

SPEAKER_01

She was she was being for real. Like, she she was telling, hey, it's it's a pretty hard hike, but like she was not emphasizing how I wouldn't call it a hike though, because it's just it's it's a path, it's a path.

SPEAKER_00

People like the majority of people were just walking up. Um, but like it is uphill and it's it's like a mile, I think. And it's uphill.

SPEAKER_01

Um, so we saw the tuk-tucks, and we were like, okay, let's just do the tuk-tucks, which they look like a scam, to be quite honest with you.

SPEAKER_00

I don't care. Take my money.

SPEAKER_01

We were so tired from walking, and we had the monastery. We had gone off a plane, gone to our Airbnb, done a monastery, walk around Sintra, almost got scammed at tile again. And we're about to do another palace. So we're tired. We're tired, and we're just like this guy kept walked up to us, breadlocks all over.

SPEAKER_00

He was such a vibe. Like it's just like, you guys wanna you wanna ride?

SPEAKER_01

Like, you know, yes. It was it was off-putting to me because I was just like, Oh, this is definitely a scam. But then I was just standing there and like exhausted, and I was just like, I don't care.

SPEAKER_00

It just reminded me of like anytime you're in like a big city, people are trying to like lure you into like you know, like their car, like their taxi or like their thing. Like, I don't know, it seemed pretty aggressive, but like I was like, I also do not want to walk up there, so yeah, let's get in your tiny little bike thing.

SPEAKER_01

We hacked with him a little bit, didn't we? He said it would be like $20, $30 or something.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think we have I think we asked him how much it was, yeah, and then we had told him that we were gonna do it up and then we were gonna do it back down, but we didn't have enough cash for like both ways.

SPEAKER_01

No, we said we were gonna do it up, and we he gave me his number at the end just in case we wanted it on the way back down because we thought maybe we could do it on the way back down with the bus.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yes, and I don't think we haggled with him over the cost though.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but we did not tell him until like the very end that we didn't have the money to pay it up.

SPEAKER_00

No, we paid him on the way up. It was on the way down we didn't have enough cash.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but we didn't tell him on the way down until we got to the bottom of it. But we just like we gotta stop it at APM. Can you actually pull over right here?

SPEAKER_01

So we can actually pay you. So we were like almost kind of scamming him.

SPEAKER_00

You know what? Take one an hour.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, but anyway, this man walks up, we pay him. It was only like $20, and what a ride, what a ride. But we were getting into the back of this tuck tuck, and I've never been in one before. And we get in the back, and then all of a sudden he's off to the side about to get in two, and he just rips a blunt, like he feels it. So high he murders a blunt, and then it's just like, well, that's something.

SPEAKER_00

And then he gets it and he cranks up the music and then just like floors it full, full talking to us. Like, he's like, Oh, like where you guys from, like, well, all right, how's it going? But then just like going around, like any other thing in front of any other tuftuck, any other car, he was swerving around them. It was a rave, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It was like a room out of the way, and he had rave music in here going too. It was like we were in the middle of like some underground club on the way, and like he was racing people, he did a wheelie. Yeah, he did a wheelie.

SPEAKER_00

We were like, Oh my god, we're good, guys. My adrenaline was I was like holding on to the sides, but like we made it and it was fine.

SPEAKER_01

It was fun, and I think we got off of that and was like immediately like, yeah, we're definitely taking that back down.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, 100%. We don't want to take the bus back down. That's lame.

SPEAKER_01

So lame. Oh my gosh. Anyway, we get to the palace, and it's big.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's also really pretty.

SPEAKER_01

I it was it's beautiful. You guys do actually need to do it.

SPEAKER_00

It was very crowded. So our time slot, I think, was one of the last time slots.

SPEAKER_01

I think it was five until six or something like that. It was one of the last ones, and trust me, it was it was crowded.

SPEAKER_00

There was a lot of people up there. I'm sure if you go in the morning, it wouldn't be as crowded.

SPEAKER_01

You can walk the grounds. We got up there a little early before our like time slot, walk the grounds, and honestly, I enjoyed that more than actual yeah, than the actual thing because like it felt like we were being critted like cattle through that palace.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and you couldn't really like stop to take it in anything. Yeah, because there was just a lot of people, they were moving you along. It was so cool though.

SPEAKER_01

It was very cool. I took pictures of the placards because I was just like, I I wanted to know some of the history, and I honestly don't know any of the history history to be able to tell you. Other than I think the one thing that stuck in my mind is like they left the dining room with all the food on the table because they had to leave the castle, like whoever was occupying it, I think one of the kings had to leave immediately before like these like people came up to murder them. I remember that portion of it. So they left it like it was being eaten in the middle of like dinner because they had to evacuate it so quickly. But there is a lot of history. Once again, just go earlier. So maybe there's not like 10 billion people and you feel like you're about to like saw a lot of influencers in the wild. No, I did not. Did you really?

SPEAKER_00

Yes, we were out at the before going in or after we got out. Like, you know, when you walk up, they had like those like partial towers. Yes, you know, there was a lot of people like taking pictures up on there, but there was this like one lady, she's taking so many pictures, she was making somebody, I don't know who it was, but yeah. Influencers in the wild, love to see it.

SPEAKER_01

Palace of Bina was not that traumatic. The tuk-tuk ride out there was interesting, but the palace itself was just it was just pretty, it was just beautiful to look at. It reminds me of like seeing like one of those old houses where you just like you just appreciate the uh the amount of work that went into it, kind of like the buildmore.

SPEAKER_00

I've never been there, but yes.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, you've never been there. Um, a very old, well-built, very well-maintained piece of property that just doesn't have the style that our buildings have now, and it's just very it's something you just appreciate. Yeah, but it was a lot of people. I was very overstimulated by the end of this.

SPEAKER_00

But then we got back on the duck. It's just like we're not the overstimulated anymore.

SPEAKER_02

We're getting back on the duck top, overstimulated all the way up, overstimulated at the palace pinner, and then overstimulated on the way down. It was a full rave again.

SPEAKER_00

But having his number was clutch because so we this was like one of the last time. So everybody's trying to get down, but we called him, and like people are also trying to get like grabs or Ubers or something up there, getting on the bus. And then here comes our tuk-tuk. He's like, Hey guys, and like we just get right on.

SPEAKER_01

It was actually at the perfect timing, too. He just like arrived there. I was just like, Oh, I was literally about to text you, but here he is.

SPEAKER_00

Was just cutting through everyone, like running people over to get to us. God, it was so crazy going down. Like, there wasn't a lot of other tuk-tucks up there at the time, and so people are like trying to get down, and like we have they were jealous of us because we just we just hopped right in and then and then we had to get him to stop to get money.

SPEAKER_01

Because we had literally nobody and didn't tell him until we got to the bottom, but he was chill about it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he was like, Oh, okay. I mean, he kept like you you got out to go to the ATM, I think, and me and like Emily were collateral. No, I think um or did Emily got out. Emily got out. Somebody got out, but we were collateral because we were still in the dark.

SPEAKER_01

Just like we're gonna be held hostage, so you know we're not gonna run away. Oh gosh, anyway, you guys, and you know what? It actually makes sense with what I'm about to say next because like all the bolts and Ubers, I think, were trying to get people down, and we were trying to get back to Lisbon at this point. And there was no bolt, none, there was only like one singular Uber, and we got it, we got it, but okay, here's the thing he was hovering on both the bolt app and on Uber.

SPEAKER_03

He wouldn't accept our fare until we got onto the Uber app because it was like three times more. But we said, fuck it, let's go back.

SPEAKER_01

We wanted to get back, and we we were done. And what time of the day did we get back to Lisbon? Was it like seven?

SPEAKER_00

I think so. It was pretty late because what it was like a 45-minute drive, I think.

SPEAKER_01

And I needed that drive.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so I think it was around seven if the castle or if the palace thing closed at like 6-ish.

SPEAKER_01

6 30-ish, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So I feel like it was seven after seven by the time we got back to Lisbon.

SPEAKER_01

And we did not go back to the Airbnb. We immediately got out the Uber and decided let's go to get a drink. Not a crazy drink, just like a hey, let's go get a drink. Yeah, and we sat there for like an hour waiting for the drinks.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but at this point, we then realized we were hungry.

SPEAKER_01

And but we we are so fried.

SPEAKER_00

We're dead at this point. And the bar that we were at to get a drink, like they had some food, but it wasn't like food, food, it was like snacks, and but here's the thing we didn't have the energy. We didn't have it in us to walk around to find like a good restaurant, so we got got we got got by one of those waving in picture places and to be fair, they didn't wave us in, but they just had- no, we did just go up and sit down, but they didn't wave us in, but they had pictures.

SPEAKER_01

Oh gosh, we broke our rule, and you know what? It was the worst meal we had.

SPEAKER_00

To be fair, it wasn't like bad though. It was not, it was not it was just our bar is so high at this point for food because of our rules. Uh, but I mean, like, it was still good, like we ate mostly everything. We made we ate most everything. We did the job because it was filling.

SPEAKER_01

But let's put it this way, we don't remember the name of the restaurant.

SPEAKER_00

And we wouldn't recommend going there. There's just so many other better options, but we just didn't have it in us to like search around for where we wanted to eat. It was like we just need food and we're going back to the Airbnb.

SPEAKER_01

And I loved our little Airbnb time when we ate food because we got some more salami and cheese.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we got and we got a bottle of wine, we got chocolate. I remember getting chocolate specifically.

SPEAKER_01

So we were having like a whole little mini meal on this like balcony at the Airbnb.

SPEAKER_00

It was just like a little, like a really small balcony too. And we were just sitting out there, chilling, of course, playing music.

SPEAKER_01

It was great. It was really relaxing. We ended the day actually on a chill note. Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, wow. It was a chill. I had like a bottle of wine. Because so me and Emily were drinking the wine, so I think she had some.

SPEAKER_01

I think had like a 40 of whatever beer.

SPEAKER_00

We're having a beer, but then Emily was like, Okay, I'm gonna shower and like go to bed, but we still had a lot of wine left, and I was the only one drinking it. And we can't take it with us, we can't take it with us with us, can't waste it. So just getting drunk on the patio.

SPEAKER_01

Hey, but it was good, it was fun. Oh gosh, you guys. Wow, Portugal wound up being like a long, very intense trip. It like we get to the airport in the morning, and we don't talk to each other.

SPEAKER_00

No, Emily left. I think her flight was first, so like we got to the airport and she like left and like went through yes, and we just sat at a cafe and didn't talk to each other. Didn't say at all.

SPEAKER_01

I don't even think we played on our phones.

SPEAKER_00

We just I was just sitting there sat there. Yeah, I was just like people watching.

SPEAKER_01

Which it makes complete sense now, thinking about all the episodes that we've done for Portugal, because at first I was just like that was the chillest trip ever, but now it makes sense why we were just sitting in silence at the airport.

SPEAKER_00

And then you then you went to go get you went to go get like wipes or something to like clean your phone screen.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm sorry, you guys, I was just so sunscreeny still, so sweaty, and my my phone, I just wanted something clean.

SPEAKER_00

He didn't get like sanitizer wipes or whatever, like he got like women's hygiene, like sanitary wipes.

SPEAKER_01

Listen, I was so tired.

SPEAKER_00

I didn't realize I didn't realize either. I didn't realize either I wasn't watching like what you were doing, but this, like, after we're back in the United States, I take them to work.

SPEAKER_01

I take these wipes to work because I'm just like, Well, I still have some wet wipes, why not just take them to work and use them there? And one of my coworkers was walking past me one day and looked at my desk and I was just like, What is that on your desk? Because it's in a pink packaging, and I was just like, It's just hand wipes. What do you do you want one? And she's like, I don't think those are hand wipes, and I was just like, What are you talking about? These are definitely hand wipes. So she takes a picture of it and puts it through chat GBT, and it's just like immediately was like, women's feminine hygiene wipes, yes.

SPEAKER_03

So I put the using feminine hygiene on your phone, like on my phone, on my hands, at work, like a wife, so it did the trick, but that's just the idea.

SPEAKER_00

You just want your pH levels to be green on your phone.

SPEAKER_01

But the airport in general was not anything crazy. We went through, got more pastel.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I remember being stressed because okay, so when you're first going through duty free, everyone was getting pastel danadas. Like it was there was a long line at duty free, but we didn't have like that much time before our flight. And I was just like, but I want to bring some home. I can't not bring any home. And so I was sad because we're like, no, we don't have time to wait in that line. But then there was a smaller little store that was near where we had to be, and I was able to bring some home.

SPEAKER_01

So, pro tip in the duty free.

SPEAKER_00

Don't wait in the long line.

SPEAKER_01

Don't wait in the long line, just go through a little bit along uh further into the airport next to your gate. You'll probably find them.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and it won't be like they don't have all the options that duty free has, but they had pastelanatos, and that's all I wanted.

SPEAKER_01

So the flight back was actually okay too. Like I did not take any melatonin and I didn't drink. I actually acted like a fucking normal flight person.

SPEAKER_00

Did you sleep?

SPEAKER_01

I just slept.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Wow.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I'm assuming I slept because I really don't have any recollection of my flight.

SPEAKER_01

You're though. But that's that's it, you guys.

SPEAKER_00

That's it.

SPEAKER_01

That's it.

SPEAKER_00

That's the end. Portugal's over. Oh gosh. So sad.

SPEAKER_01

So we're going to take a few months off.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, not really.

SPEAKER_01

But not really. We're going to try and work on how to figure out the marketing because we just don't understand.

SPEAKER_00

We just don't know how to use social media appropriately.

SPEAKER_01

We're getting too old.

SPEAKER_00

Um, so yeah, we might try and figure that out. Uh, but we also might come back with some individual travel stories. Yes. Because we've both been other places, just not like with each other.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And I'm about to go to Italy on a solo trip myself.

SPEAKER_00

So that'll be content for sure. That's gonna be something. It's gonna be something.

SPEAKER_01

And Abby just got back from Hawaii.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So, like, we do got some uh other things that we could talk about, but our primary next season season? It's gonna be Croatia. It's definitely gonna be Croatian, and it's just me, Abby, and Skye.

SPEAKER_00

So I have no buffer. What between me and Sky and you? Yes, you need a buffer? Probably. Every trip that I've been on with you and Skye, there's always been at least one other person.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god, you're gonna kill us. You're gonna you're going to kill us. What we're gonna be trapped.

SPEAKER_00

We're gonna be trapped on a boat.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god, yeah, it's a sailboat for a whole entire week. Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_00

So that'll be fun. This is gonna be very exciting.

SPEAKER_01

Very fascinating content that we can bring you guys for Croatia. But until then. Until then, as always, stay chaotic.

SPEAKER_00

Stay chaotic.

SPEAKER_01

Love inside.
