Hello, everybody. Welcome to another episode of Uncloaked, a cybersecurity podcast brought to you by Black Cloak, the pioneer of digital executive protection and leader in personal concierge cybersecurity. Today we've got a special episode for you as our director of digital security convergence, Hazel Sarah, sat down with Field CISO client advisory Brian Hill to talk through incident response, specifically how Black Cloaks U.S. based security operations center steps in when someone reaches out after experiencing a breach, identity fraud, or any form of cyber attack, taking a client all the way through the process to resolution. Hope you enjoy this discussion. And without further ado, here is Hazel and Brian.
SPEAKER_01And I wanted to ask him a few questions about our Special Operations Center and how they respond to incidents. So, Brian, thank you for being here.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. Thanks for having me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, of course. So tell me a little bit about incident response. What is the response time for incidents that you get from our clients?
SPEAKER_02Absolutely, it's it's virtually instantaneous. We have we have a fully functional US-based SOC team, coast to coast, all credentialed. They've seen they've seen it all. And so it's not your, you know, think of, you know, if you if anyone that's in tech get a call from their aunts, their uncles, right, or their moms of hey, I have this problem with my computer, right? We don't deal with those. It's the incident themselves trying to walk them through some of this, the most stressful situations of their life. So it's instantaneous. So whether they email in, we're gonna respond right away. It could be as simple as, hey, I got this weird email. What black cloak, before I click on this link, what do you think about it? So let us do that work. Just be that extra layer of you know, to authenticate the authenticity of that email. If they would have clicked on the link, would it have actually brought them to a legitimate site? Or if they would have clicked that link, would it then try to get their you know login credentials, for example? Maybe look like a fake Google login. Walking them through that, setting up, you know, hey, if they want to learn about a password exposed on the dark web, what do they do about it? We're not just gonna send them an email that says, hey, guess what? We found this information about you. No, it's it's an incident. Let's walk them through. What can we do about it? Everything that we do is actionable, and it's it's all about giving that peace of mind to them in what is you know for them a very stressful situation.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I like what you said because a lot of times I get questions as to like what does that incident response look like? Like, what is it that you guys do? And I often say, you're going to be able to call and talk to a person, right? Like you're not stuck in a switchboard, trying to wait with the elevator music, like you're actually going to talk to a person when you need it the most, and that is so critical, and that's part of being, you know, in black cloak with the concierge service and having you know that peace of mind to be able to talk to somebody. Um, so having said that, what is like the average time frame that you are able to resolve an incident when one of our clients calls us?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, absolutely. What looking back at I look at like you know, whether it's an emergency, what we call you know, emergency onboarding. A client comes to us because they're already compromised. Whether it's that or any critical incident, hey, I did click on this link and I gave up my credentials, we're able to resolve that within about 40 minutes on average.
SPEAKER_01Wow, that's that's amazing. 40 minutes?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01That's that's really amazing.
SPEAKER_02And that's walking them through from beginning to end. And when I worked with uh commercial sock, the enterprise side security operations, that on average takes nine man hours uh of team to do the enterprise incident response. So on the personal side, to be able to do that in 40 minutes and be able to restore their peace of mind is huge.
SPEAKER_01No, I love that. I love that.
SPEAKER_02And what able to take that forensic background of you know, because forensics is all about trying to solve a puzzle. You know, trying to put the pieces together of you know what's going on, how you know, how did they get away with this, where is the evidence? Incident response is the same way, I treat it the same way. Trying to look at, okay, how is the vector into you know, email system, into their phone? How did they get it when they were there? What did they do? You know, just like if you were to break into a building, once you break in, what did the person do after that? Where did they go? What did they touch? Everything leaves a trail, and let's put that together because then that's how we not only figure out, you know, hey, this is who this is who did it, but then how do we prevent it from happening again is the key.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, absolutely. But um, can you share with me like a success story of someone that called that had like an emergency situation that you were able to really give them that peace of mind and help them with it?
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. Uh, so we had it, we this was the most recent one. Um, we had a client come on board, emergency, because you know, it was uh I think it was a it was the parent of of a of a client, and it was they fell victim of pop-up scam, you know, the scareware. They go to a website, a big thing pops up that says, Hey, your computer has a virus on it, you're infected. Call 1-800, get help now. She unfortunately she thought she had a problem. She thought she was calling Microsoft Support Center.
SPEAKER_01Oh no.
SPEAKER_02She gets on the phone with them. I need to get remote access to your computer. So I can scan your system to make sure that everything is okay. They do that and they get on there. Oh, yeah, you got viruses, and you know, and it looks like you have images of child exploitation. So I'm gonna I'm gonna have to contact law enforcement, or do you want me to kind of clean this up? Well, yeah, do do what you need to do. And she gave access for over two hours. And then it was, well, you know, because your computer was infected, we should probably check your financial accounts to make sure that they she said she was now able to sleep because we gave her that peace of mind that everything's okay. It does happen. She was distraught, and it's just that that comforting, that reassurance, and that's that true white glove service. We're not just a call center. We're that we're we're there every step of the way to hold their hand, to walk them through everything. If it's locking down their credit, securing their accounts, just to hey, is this a good email or not? Just give them that peace of mind, that extra level of support that they need.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's amazing. That's excellent. I love that story. Thank you, Brian. You're welcome.
