Schall We Talk is a comedy podcast hosted by comedian Robyn Schall. Imagine the wild energy of Pee Wee’s Playhouse colliding with an old-school talk show. Each episode is its own unpredictable adventure. One week Robyn might be sharing her latest personal misadventure, the next she’s diving into interactive games, interviews, science experiments, or even chaotic cooking trials. This episode is with a two-time Emmy winner... but somehow we still spent part of it talking about my trash-picked jukeboxes and wedding.
This week I'm joined by my longtime friend Jamie Lee. She's a comedian, writer, actress, and executive producer on Ted Lasso. We first met over a decade ago, and it was so much fun finally sitting down to talk about comedy, writing, career highs, career flops, and everything in between.
In this episode:
Winning two Emmys for Ted Lasso
Writing and acting on Crashing with Judd Apatow
How Girl Code changed her career
Why saying "yes" changed everything
The story behind her incredible one-woman show My Friend Katie
Crossing "Interview an Emmy Winner" off the Goals List
This one is funny, inspiring, and honest.

Hi everyone, welcome back to Shaw We Talk. You don't know this. This is my second time doing this episode because someone didn't know I was gonna ask you.
SPEAKER_01Oh my goodness!
SPEAKER_03Come in! Come in! Can I be a third one? What? Can I be a third one? Do you want to take uh oats? Yeah. Oats, go with your uncle. As long as you want. Does he need a bag or a poop bag? You're a good uncle.
SPEAKER_01Patreon.
SPEAKER_03Nope. But this is in the episode. The poop bags? I don't think they need to see the poop bags. Oh, you look hot.
SPEAKER_01There's two.
SPEAKER_03You look good. Can I have a moment to kiss him? Yeah, sure. Damn. My fiance's hot.
SPEAKER_01Alright, let's have a good walk. Oh, just go, go, go, go, go, go, go for a walk. We got a lot of Patreon stuff.
SPEAKER_03No, this is in the episode. This is in the episode? Oh my god. No, my fiance's hot. Why'd you tell them? Okay, I'm sorry. They need to know what happened. Guys, we already filmed this episode. We filmed an opening, the big thing I'm about to tell you, and then the closing. I get a call from security. Hey, opening, closing, we gotta redo. I said, why? He's like, I deleted it all. Because we just did a show this past Wednesday and we were gonna film it, and he cleared out the disc without uploading the interview. No, the interview was uploaded. Just the opening and closing.
SPEAKER_01Correct.
SPEAKER_03So this is our second time.
SPEAKER_01Thank you for outing me.
SPEAKER_03Thank you. I was I don't care at all. I'm just happy that the interview is not deleted.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and the interview is all there.
SPEAKER_03It's all edited. Well, then I guess now it's time to tell them. Go tell them. We are crossing off something on the goals list. On the goals list, it says to have on the podcast an Emmy winner, an Oscar winner, a Tony winner, and a Grammy winner. And today we are officially crossing off Emmy winner. So my friend Jamie Lee, who is an actor, comedian, producer, writer, won an won two Emmys for executive producing on Ted Lasso. And she's on today's episode as our guest. And we cover it all. First off, we cover our friendship and how we met. She was one of, if not the first friend I made in comedy. And then her s her career is just like skyrocketing. She's just, she's so funny and so successful and so nice. And I'm just so excited for you guys to see this interview. It's just great. You may also know her from like Girl Code and Ted Lau. I'll do oh, should I just do her credits?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03All right, let's roll her credits. Jamie was on HBO's Crashing, where she starred as Allie alongside Pete Holmes, or you may have seen her as one of the main girls on MTV's Girl Code. She has done stand-up on Conan, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Chelsea Lately, and Last Comic Standing. She's a writer and executive producer on Tad Lasso, which has won her two Emmys, and has also written on Crashing, Teachers, Killing It, and Chad Powers. She's an author of the best-selling wedding memoir. She's the author of the best-selling wedding memoir Wediculous. Wediculous. She is the author of the best-selling wedding memoir, Wediculous. Wedding memoir Wedding Memoir Wediculous. Try to say that.
SPEAKER_01Wedding memoir widiculous. Wediculous. Wedding memoir ridiculous.
SPEAKER_03Everyone at home, try to say this. Wedding memoir wediculous.
SPEAKER_01Right now, someone's on like the bus right now saying wedding memoir widiculous.
SPEAKER_03Memoir? Alright. An unfiltered guide to being a bride, which later then inspired the Netflix series, The Wedding Coach, which she hosted. Most recently, she's been touring her critically acclaimed one-woman show, My Friend Katie, a personal and funny exploration of the mysterious death of a close friend. Alright, but before we get to the interview, in two days from now is my Bachelorette Party comedy show, New York show. Boston is on August 23rd. Guys, it is gonna be so fun. Cannoli strippers, stand-up games. It's just pin the I don't even want to say. It's gonna be so fun. I'm so excited. And it's so funny, New York and Boston are gonna have such different vibes. Because New York, it's very heavy on like the bridal parties all coming. And then Boston is like the kids. Yeah. I am so excited. Ah, I'm so excited. Not only that, we have tickets have been released for the post-wedding tour, the Just Married Comedy Tour, where I'm going to San Diego, Dallas, Vegas, and Toronto. Tickets are on sale. You could click the link below or go to my website. The tour post-wedding is a lot of new material. Although the Bachelorette party shows is all new material because it's a completely different show. Actually, someone just messaged that they're coming to the Dallas show and the Boston show. And I was like, perfect, they're two very different shows.
SPEAKER_01That's great.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So, yeah, get your tickets. And if you would like to become a Patreon, that link is below. Every Friday, we do behind the scenes. There's some good stuff on this behind the scenes. Also, I am gonna be sharing a lot of the Bachelorette party on Patreon. There'll be some clips on social media, but I'm gonna give Patreons a little extra behind the scenes with the Bachelorette shows. Okay. Should we just jump into the episode? Let's do it. I'm very excited. Guys, enjoy my interview with Jamie Lay. Jamie, thank you so much for coming on Show We Talk.
SPEAKER_02I'm so excited to be here. Do you know what year we became friends? I was just thinking about that on the way over here. I'm gonna say 2010. 2014.
SPEAKER_03I just looked it up. Okay, I overshot. Yes. Well, that's when we auditioned for Funny Girls. Right. Well, of course. Yes. Yes. So Funny Girls is a reality show. Yep. Following five female comedians. On oxygen, which I don't think oxygen is around. I don't think it's around anymore. We both auditioned for this reality show that was following five female comedians. We didn't know I maybe we knew of each other, but we didn't know each other. We met, we definitely met like more officially there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. And so then they flew a bunch of, well, I guess it was three of us, New Yorkers. Yeah. Female comedians. Yeah, and then because the other three were LA comedians. That's right. Oh, it was Nicole.
SPEAKER_02Wait, was it Nicole? Yeah, Nicole. Yeah. And then Brisha. And Brisha, and then I'm trying to remember who else did it. Oh man. Oh, Esther Steinberg? Or is that a different show?
SPEAKER_03She got cast in it post-Us. Like so what happened with like they did auditions and then they were doing like a screen test and they had six of us, three New York and three LA. If I remember correctly, it was grueling. Like what they they put us through, they put us through hell. Yeah. So one of my best friends lives in LA and he picked so we were so they flew us out. Yes. And they put us in us in a hotel. We'll tell you about the experience in a second. But my friend Adam picks me up from that weekend and I get in the car and I just start crying. He had never seen me cry before. And I was like, that was so it was kind of horrible. Yeah. I could I and that was the moment I realized I can't do reality TV.
SPEAKER_02Well, and also that was of a time. I mean, not that reality TV is like reality TV is still has like a sensationalized element still for sure. But at that time it was really that era of like pitting people against each other and not just like allowing people to like hang out and see what happens. Right. Like I feel like reality TV now, there's like all different types of reality TV. But back then it was more standard like people being pitted against each other, even though the show, at least in my recollection, like the show was supposed to be like positive and fun and just like following comedians who are friends.
SPEAKER_03That's how they pitched it, how they pitched it to be clear. But then we went out there and it was anything. Cut through it. And I remember they put us, like they did like the green screen like confessionals, and I remember crop. It's so vivid in my mind right now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Of being interviewed at that green screen. I remember I actually ended up finding like a b-roll of it online and I showed you, and then you actually called your agent to make sure they got it taken down. Because like the act like when the links were like with when you audition people. Remember it was like public, and I was like, Jamie, and I sent it to you.
SPEAKER_02I remember that.
SPEAKER_03And you called your agent. Yeah. And you got it, like you they and it was, I remember like, oh my god, it's so embarrassing. They had like an audition tape of me crying. And then I also remember they had us go on like dates, but it was like 11 in the morning. Yes, yes. And they like Wait, why were we going on dates?
unknownI don't know.
SPEAKER_02What did that have to do with this?
SPEAKER_03Were we roasting like the guys that we were paired? They put me on a date with someone, by the way. It was 11 in the morning. We were like drinking, like it was supposed to be a nighttime, but it was like all yeah, it was fake, you know? And I remember the guy was really rude to me, but like he was an actor. He was an actor that they hired. So anyway, we didn't do the show.
SPEAKER_02I mean, I just remember being in the green screen, that's where they just kind of like interview you like one-on-one. It's just you and a producer. Yeah. And they would be like, so-and-so said that you're a jerk or whatever. And I was like, What? And like people that I like said five words to, I'm like, when was I rude to them? So I'm like, in my mind, I'm like, oh, did I don't remember being rude, but maybe, and I started like really getting in my head. Like, I just remember being like, wait, what did I say to someone? And it's like all probably just like completely fake and contrived because they were trying to like get a rise out of me or get me to talk shit about them. Right. Which I was like, I'm not an idiot. I'm not gonna like start being awful like behind someone's back. For honestly, no reason. We we had no I had no beef with these people. No, we didn't even know them. I think we didn't know anyone. Why would I have any like issues with people?
SPEAKER_03I barely know them. But what okay, but the positive. Let's talk about the positive. We became friends. We did, we really bonded. Yeah. Well, because we were like, what is this? No, truly, I was like, yeah, we gravitated. Yeah. So we needed each other. Thank you, oxygen, for bringing together. Yeah. Do you know? I actually, when they came back, they had me come in and do a meeting at 30 Rock with three of the execs, and then they gave me a holding deal. Oh. For two months. Wait, right after that. That when we came back, and then like literally. You must have been like, oh my God, what is that? I was like, I don't think I want to do it. Cause like it was such a bad experience. And then they offered like a lot of money to hold me, and I was like, okay, I could do it. It's like I could be fun. So what? And then he brought on a showrunner. Oh, okay. And we did like he was in LA, and they did a he me and him did a Skype because it was Skype. No, no Zoom. And he was asking about my boyfriend, my ex two exes ago at this at this point. And they I said, he won't be on this. And he was like, okay, well, can he just do phone calls with you so then we could do like a breakup? And I said, no. I said, he has like a real job, like he won't be on it. Right. And then he like said something again, like, okay, well, what if we bring on someone to represent him? I said, no, he can't be in it. Right. Literally the next day they let me go from the whole thing. Yep. And I said, you know what? Good. I one, I didn't want to do it. You should. I'm so glad you didn't do it. Two, I would never you can I put me in any light. I could handle it. Yeah. But I'm not gonna sell out people.
SPEAKER_02No, when it involves other people, it's it's really hard. Yeah. You're like, I'll like make fun of myself all day all day. Right. Yeah. Or like, yeah, but it's it's tough when it involves other people. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So anyway, that's how we met, and that's how we became friends. It's true. And then Jamie was actually at my first studio apartment. I what? Oh my god, yes. Which was the size of this stud like this is the same room. Yes. And I we like were writing. Oh yeah. We were like working on jokes and stuff. I feel like. You're gonna think this is nuts. No true. You gave me advice. Oh my god, what give that advice to new comics to this day? And I always credit you. What did I say? So, okay, so you had done Last Comic Standing at that place. And that's maybe you'd done Conan. What did in 2015? 2014 I had, yeah. Yeah. I think I did it like right around that time. Right. And so, and I had not done TV yet. Yeah. And so I was like, I just want to do TV. I want to do it. Right, right. And at that point, I had only been doing I just started, it was I started in 2010. So I just said four years. And you said people get their first TV usually around the four-year mark. And you're like, and that's soft four. She goes, You said, like, some people get it earlier, but most people around four years in stand-up is when they get their first. That's kind of true. Yeah. I think I stick by that. Yeah. And then you're like, and that's soft for. It could take people. Yeah, that sounds like something you gotta say. And literally shortly after I got my first TV. And I was like, and I was like, Jamie. And then I got like another TV right after. And I was like, she was right. It's the four year mark in stand up. What was the first TV? It was well, I did the Bethany show as like um panels and two other. Yeah. Um, and then uh Access, right?
SPEAKER_02Like right after. Yeah, amazing. Yeah. Oh, that Access, those were that was fun, Access. Yeah, those were cool sets. I remember doing that. Yeah, it was like a nine midnight. Was that the one that was at Gotham? Yeah, that that was awesome. Okay, so you've done Conan, you did uh what late night spots? I done con well, I did Conan and I did Corden. And then I did like the Pete Holmes show. I did stand up on that. I did John Oliver when it was on Comedy Central. Yeah, those were like the main ones.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so let's back up. All right. So your stand-up went great, and then you get girl code. Oh yeah. Girl code. But I feel like like that was it took but a moment. Yeah, that was a moment. That was Girl Code. That was what, 2017? That, yeah, that sounds right. Yeah. Around there.
SPEAKER_02Sounds right. And you were like one of the main like five girls. Yes, yes. And they kind of added to the cast as it went on, but that first season was like Yeah, but like you, Jesse May, Carly, Nicole. Nicole Bayer, yep.
SPEAKER_03And then they added like Aquafina with the case. Exactly. But she didn't like uh next season.
SPEAKER_02I think she was like season three or something.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Maybe it was like the four of you, and it was just such a moment because I was I didn't really know Nicole because she was in LA right Chicago. She was in she was in LA, I believe, at that time. Oh, okay. I think so I was friends with Jamie and Jessime and Carly, and I just remember like all three of you got like famous. Like it was crazy. Walking on the street, like girls knew you, and like all of a sudden the three of you were just like selling out the comic. Like you because it became a drawer overnight with that show.
SPEAKER_02It was so crazy because something that I don't think people know about that show is that when we auditioned, I didn't know what I was auditioning for. I was told it was gonna be on mtv.com. Uh-huh. And so when I went in and I had some jokes prepared, I remember thinking that was a really fun audition, but I remember being like, put us for mtv.com. I'm like, like, what is like what is it gonna be? Oh, and I remember they were like, yeah, actually, you know what, it might not be on mtv.com, it might be on mtv too. And I was like, oh, that's kind of cool. And then they were like, actually, it's gonna be on MTV. And I was like, Oh. And then they're like, it's prime time. And you're like, oh. So it was very strange the way it kind of unfolded to me that this might actually be something.
SPEAKER_03I wonder, because like it really was gold with the like you four girls, like you guys were so funny that I wonder as they were making it, is it once they made it if they were like, oh, this is something.
SPEAKER_02I think that maybe is possible. Because that definitely was not communicated to me.
SPEAKER_03Wait, to the listeners, you're gonna hear a fan in the background. We have to. It's so hot. So if you're listening and you're hearing a fan, sorry, just know it's a hundred degrees outside.
SPEAKER_02Oh, alright. It's a little white noise. Okay. Ooh, that's kind of nice. Right? Yeah, that made a big diff.
SPEAKER_03Guys, trust me. Trust me, trust me, you want you want this sound. We're recording this during a heat wave. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, so okay, so curl girl code, you would say girl code was the big, the first big change in your life.
SPEAKER_02That was probably, yeah, that was definitely a b a very big deal. And and it gave us the chance to tour, and we would tour together, which was really fun. So then you got crash, you did played Allie and Crashing. Yeah, right. I played Ally and Crashing. Yep. I was a writer on Crashing season one. Uh-huh. And then season two, there was talk of like, oh, there might be this new character, maybe you could play her. And then very quickly I was told, no, you're not playing her. It's not you. And then I kind of went through the whole season writing it, being like, not me, and that's fine, and maybe I'll play something else, or you know, whatever. Maybe I'm not gonna act on the show, I have no idea. And then ended up getting it, and I was like, just another everything in my career that has been significant is always me being like, wait, what? Like, I'm always blindsided by like girl code, I was like, Wait, the the MTV.com thing is like a popular TV show. Like, what? And the same with crashing. I was like, wait, me? I was, but you said to my face it's not you. So wait, why am I doing it then?
SPEAKER_03This is so weird. Like, but I think like I I bet you that's that type of story is kind of common because like yeah, everything in this business is so weird. Everything is so weird. They tell you you get stuff, and then two days later you don't. It'll be the opposite.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you know, that also happens where they're you're like, it's in the bag, and it's like it literally falls apart two days later.
SPEAKER_03Okay, funny girls, they paid me to not tell you to hold me.
SPEAKER_02That's right.
SPEAKER_03And then like, no, we're yeah, yeah, we're good. Yeah. I don't know how much of that role is based off of you?
SPEAKER_02I guess it was like lo it's loosely based on me, I guess, but like she was definitely a lot more feisty and like foot and mouth than I ever would be or could be.
SPEAKER_03No, we're gonna get to Ted Lasso, but is it so cool that like Crashing and Ted Lasso are two like super like that you know you wrote on two of like very funny shows that people across the board but you have to know this. I mean, like both of them were so popular. Oh yeah, you know, like does it feel like do you go like holy shit?
SPEAKER_02I literally never do, so the fact that you're saying that, I'm like, oh, I guess I should think about stuff like that. I like that you think about it.
SPEAKER_03Very popular, and not even popular, but like very well respected comedies from the show. My brother, not this brother, my other brother, yeah, who's not in the business. Yeah, he loved Crash. Really? Yeah, he's just like a guy and he loved that show.
SPEAKER_02No, it is a really good show. I hope that that's another one that I'm like, I hope it's on Netflix at some point or something. I want more people to see it because I think people would really like it. It's really sweet.
SPEAKER_03So much that you've done has been huge successes. Do you have any flops that we just don't know about?
SPEAKER_02The one that felt like the biggest flop to me was I wrote this book in 2016 called Ridiculous about my first wedding. Have a second one as well, but about when I was first getting married. I wrote a book about that, and then that got adapted into a TV show, which was really, really exciting and and probably something that I always hoped would happen. Like, I write a book and it gets adapted. So that felt huge, but then it only ran for one season, and like I really believed in it and thought it was so fun and so funny. You can still see it, it is still on the show. You know what's so funny?
SPEAKER_03So you're saying that was a flap, but like to me, so the the book was a hit. The book did okay. Yeah, the book did okay. It wasn't like a best. And then it got adapted into a show.
SPEAKER_02I know. So I mean that is a success. I know it is, and I just it felt like the type of thing where because it was kind of like queer eye, but for weddings, it was like we went in and helped people who were getting married, but like deal with struggles, not not necessarily things like whatever the dress or the cake. It was more like, how do you get along with your mother-in-law? Or like, how do you deal with the groom's sister? Like, it was a little more emotional than just like sort of surface issues, which also, by the way, are like completely valid. And like I yeah, I have a lot of strong feelings on weddings and how hard they are. I find this whole culture to be so bizarre and also so fascinating. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_03I like if I can give anyone advice, and then I want to uh want you to give advice from someone who's in the thick of wedding planning, yes, the engagement's like the best day. Yes, and then you're hit with the I a clue. It's a job. You are not how expensive everything was. For sure. I I was blindsided, I didn't know. Yeah, I'm gonna do that. And so then you find out that everything is so expensive, and then for those first few weeks, nothing's fun because you're like, oh well, I guess I'm not having that, I guess I'm not doing that, I guess I'm not then it's a roller coaster, so you're so happy, then you're like, oh, this stinks. Yeah, but then you're like, you find your footing and you're like, okay, well, this venue and this photographer, and then you've and then you get happy again, and then it's all the other crap. So it's like it's a roller coaster, and you also don't want to complain because you're like, This is a good thing, this is a happy thing, yes, you know. So it it really is a roller coaster, is what I tell people from your experience, especially from your book. What is like your advice to people that are getting married?
SPEAKER_02I guess my biggest feeling is I really wish more toasts focused on the couple. A lot of times they will be about one person or the other person, which is fine trying to remember how to tie it back to them because when you're listening to it, you're like, oh, it's I want them to talk about us like together. That's your writer brain too, though.
SPEAKER_03Like 100%. Because as a writer, you're like, you know what will make this speech good? Is tie it up. We gotta tie it up. We gotta tie it up. Yes. Well, I I said to my my dad wants to do part of his speech in Spanish, because in Tonio's family's Spanish. I'm like, no, because then I don't get to hear the speech. Oh, that's nice. You go know. Like, so I told him I said he gets through the three sentences. Because like I want to hear Could he translate it? Maybe does it like already? I'm like, I'm trying to just keep it short. Yeah. Get your three sentences back. Short, short, less is more, less is more. When you were first starting, was the writing's writer's room like almost intimidating? Yes.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god. It was so intimidating. And and and you know, crashing was like a Judd Apatow show. He's in the room. Yeah. I mean, I was like panicked. And and also that room was unusual because it wasn't, oh, you're on staff for a certain amount of weeks. Like for Ted Lasso, it's like you're commissioned like for 20 weeks. You know your contract, you are guaranteed 20 weeks of work at least, and then usually you get extended. Right. But with crashing, you would come on for a week, and then at the end of the week, you would find out if you were invited back the next week. That's intense. So I the entire time was like, I'm not getting invited back. Every week I was like, I bet I'm not invited back. And then I was getting invited back and I was like, oh. And then the second season, I was like, oh, I think I'm like on the show. Like now I'm like on the stack. Yeah. Ted Lasso. Okay, how did that come about?
SPEAKER_03First off, you started as a writer, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm I am I am a writer on Ted Lasso. Now I'm an executive producer. Right. When I found out that I got it, I was like, cool, I have a job. Like I never was like, Ted Lasso. Like, I know people who turned it down. Right. Well, I have a friend who turned it down. You never know what's the show that's going to be here. Straight up was offered it, turned it down. She was like, I don't want to write about soccer. I mean, really, like, had no idea.
SPEAKER_03Like, if you're thinking, like, who would have thought a show like a comedy about soccer? Based on a commercial.
SPEAKER_02It started out as an NBC sports, don't quote me on this. It was an internet like short. Yeah. You really just don't know. And that's why sometimes you you gotta say yes to things. Because you're not going to be able to do that. You really don't know. And I I mean the amount of times that I thought I was working on something that was going nowhere, and it ends up being like important and significant to me, it is kind of frequent. You got which is rare. Your Emmy. Emmys? Got two Emmys. Crazy. What was that like? Well, the first Emmys was during the pandemic. So we had to test for COVID a bunch, lots of social distancing at the actual event. It was in a tent, the bathrooms, reportapoties, like, and my dad had just passed away, if I'm being completely honest. So it was it was very weird for me. I was just like, wait, my dad's not here to like see that I like am getting an Emmy. Like it was just like just it was amazing, but it was also like, whoa, like that's crazy. Like, yeah. But then the second year, I remember being like, come on, we're not winning two years in a row. Like, in what world? When we won, I was just like, I cannot believe we're doing this again. I cannot believe two years in a row.
SPEAKER_03Was the red dress the first year or second?
SPEAKER_02That was the better dress. I loved that dress. That dress rocked. That dress was unbelievable. I think about that dress all the time. Where do you keep your Emmy? Emmys. It they're under the TV right now. There's not in a special place, just kind of sitting there.
SPEAKER_03I don't know if you know this, but in the beginning of the year, every year since I went viral from the goals list, every year my followers and I make goals together in January. Like we make a list of goals. Like they send thousands of suggestions, and I pick 20. So this year, one of the goals is on the podcast to have an Oscar winner, an Emmy winner, a Tony winner, and a Grammy winner. So you are our Emmy winner for the. That's really cool. So you're gonna cross it off after the podcast for them.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, I'm so honored.
SPEAKER_03Turn around. There's the goals list. Wow.
SPEAKER_02You are getting married. I know.
SPEAKER_03Well that we need the logical dig. We always make it so random. Okay. Because things, Jamie, I put Kelly Clarkson on there because so many people were sending it a few months later, and the Kelly Clarkson show swears they didn't know about the list. This is crazy. They reached out, and that's how I got the job. But they didn't know about the list. And we wrote the list before the Kelly Clark show reached out. We also put Oprah on the list. And a couple months later, Oprah reeked out to interview me. She didn't know anything about the list. We didn't know that was. I mean, how the hell? That is so good to know. So what I'm saying is we make this list together and things happen, and you get to be our cross it off for all the kids.
SPEAKER_02How fun.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So we always put things that are really random, and then we put things that we want like get married, like we want that to follow through. Right, right. We're hoping now that all comes together. Yeah. Okay. But this is the thing I really want to talk about. Sure. Is my friend Katie. Yes. Alright, so Jamie's doing a one-woman play. Tell us about what it's about.
SPEAKER_02Right. So my friend Katie, it's sort of part like mystery, true crime, part stand-up. It's like a one-woman comedy. And it is about my best friend in college who mysteriously passed away. It is about how I went back to Texas where it happened 20 years later and was determined to investigate what happened to her. And this is true. This happened. Yeah. This actually happened. And so yeah, I just kind of went on this mission to figure out what happened to her. I don't want to ruin the play. Sure, sure.
SPEAKER_03Did do we do you find out or do we do?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So you do find out what happened, but what's interesting and kind of I think the thing that I the biggest takeaway for me was that once I found out like concrete answers, like this is how she died. I had an autopsy report. I was like able to actually get that information. It ended up leading to more questions. So I think when I tell people what the show's about, they're like, so it ends with the autopsy report. I'm like, no, that's like the midpoint. Like it is about like what happens like when you do have an answer. Like it doesn't bring you the closure you think it's gonna bring you. It just makes you wanna know more and more and more. Because I really do want to see. Yeah, for sure. I and I would love for you to come. It'd be awesome.
SPEAKER_03Okay, I have some rapid fire questions for you. Okay. Spicy, spicy. They're not that spicy of questions. Maybe you could make them spicy. Okay. Okay. Favorite comedian of all time. Well, besides the two of us.
SPEAKER_02That's brutal. Okay. Can I just say I just saw Rory Scovile at the Bell House, and it is it, I the amount of laughter and the how hard I was laughing, and it was nonstop. I mean, I'm kind of obsessed with him right now.
SPEAKER_03Ah. Yeah. And Joan Rivers. And Miss Piggy. Joan Rivers is, you know, is always my answer to that question. I uh I know a lot of people who knew her well, and everyone talks about how nice she was. I bet she was. Especially to comedians. Like that she loved comedians. That's so cool. I mean, she was just This woman I I'm friends with uh was telling me a story about how she went to Joan's house for like whatever, like a Passover dinner or something. Okay. And she said to Joan, Oh, I love you this vase. And Joan's like, take it. And she's like, no, no, it's okay. She goes, ah, take it. And like made her take the vase because she accomplished it. I want to be that person.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, me too. Take the vase. Take the jukebox.
SPEAKER_03Can I have the jukebox? Can I just have that? On a un 10th inch. It was in the trash. Are you serious? I was walking. Does it work? Not really. But I was walking with Antonio and getting like not a New Yorker. So grabbing stuff out of the trash is real foreign to my game. So some New Yorkers too, it's foreign, but not all New Yorkers. And so I'm walking, it's he it's before work. He used to go to work. And I'm walking with him to get coffee, and I see the jukebox in the big pile of trash. And I was like, I need that. And he's like, ha ha. I was like, no. I was like, it's so cool. And then I was like, I need that. He's like, I'm going to work. And I call my brother and I'm like, get the dolly. This one. So I ran home. And so, because he said it would take him like 10 minutes. I was like, I'm gonna run home because I wasn't dressed or anything. So he gets there, an old lady's looking at it, and he was like, fight, he phoned off the old lady. And then we put it on a dolly, cleaned it out to make sure there's no like rats or bugs inside. So we're not good at rapid Oh yeah, that was the longest. I was like, I don't know. Maybe these three people that was question one. Really rough. Okay. Really rough. All right. So you were one of the best career advices that I've heard. Who what's one of the best career advices you've ever received?
SPEAKER_02Like keep your head down. Like just like do the work. And like, I do think that if you just like make things you're really proud of, like the right people will find it. Like really trying to like tap into like what you actually care about is the thing that you'll probably like be successful for. That's good. And I think that's true for for you. Yeah. Like, because I'm like your style of being like positive, inclusive, like you love talking to people. You've been that way the whole time I've known you.
SPEAKER_03It's like now that's the thing. Yeah, I feel like, and it's like I always tell people that I'm so like the reason why I'm so happy is because I got to stay true to myself. I are yet to have to like bend. So true. Um I totally get that. To your point, if you just do you and like do the thing and and try to be the best at do at you know at yourself. Yeah, yeah. Okay. Worst piece of career advice you ever got. You don't have to tell us who unless you want to.
SPEAKER_02You know what? I think it's if it's not a hell yes, it's a no. I don't think that's true at all. I think that if something is making you go, should I, shouldn't I, should I, shouldn't I, you know, to a degree, if you're not excited about it, that is probably something you should listen to. But if you really genuinely are like, maybe, like, that isn't I mean, I wouldn't have done Ted Lasso if I had to. Yeah, I'm gonna say or girl code. It's not being like opportunistic or not true to yourself just because you don't have all of the answers in front of you right away. Right. But if you enter into something that doesn't feel good, you should absolutely abort abort. Like that's when that's when it becomes if it's not a hell yes, it's a no. Right. But the initial is not that's not necessarily true.
SPEAKER_03All right, let's not call this rapid question.
SPEAKER_02This is long thought. This is not there's not actually there's nothing speed. I would say this round is slower than the rest of the party.
SPEAKER_03We're gonna call this long-winded answer. Yeah, the long, the slow round. I Jamie, thank you so much. This is so special. Don't worry, we're gonna cross it off, guys. Do not fear. I can't believe I'm on the list. That's so exciting. I feel so I feel so honored. No, thank you so much for coming. This is amazing. So great to see you. Oh my god. I love you. Oh my goodness. Jamie, thank you so much for coming on Show All We Talk. And thank you for being such a good friend to me. And just congratulations on all your success. Make sure you guys are following her.
