Sir Brian and friends start us on the road through Peter. This book brings a multitude of us together. Lots of information and realizations. Seeing how awesome our God is. I believe you will enjoy this journey with us. Remember Jesus loves you and so do we here at Faith from the Streets

SPEAKER_00

Wheresoever most streets may be. Fake the street podcast.

SPEAKER_06

Into a living hope. That term living hope in the Greek is elpis. Elpis is hostile. And it literally means a hope that has a heart. I love that. I love that.

SPEAKER_07

It's the best way I've ever heard that determined. Absolutely. Hope that has a heart.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that's yeah. That's kind of my job right there. And that's why it's so great to have these Bibles that we have. That we can have these references and these extra things that helps us. Because again, when when they're talking, when Peter's talking to his to the Israelite people, they automatically have an understanding of these things that we don't. Because we didn't live in that time. We didn't speak that. We weren't a part of that. We are so far removed from that.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, and we lose a lot of that in from one of the studies that I was doing. Like I think we've all talked about it at one point in time, but the Greek language had four different words for the word love. Our English translation of love. So our English translation of word love. So water something like that. Uh on Sunday. This is uh Faith from the Streets. Uh my name is Rob, and I have Tom with me. I have Jacob. Hello. And I have Sir Brian with us as well. And uh today we're gonna be uh tackling first Peter.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, uh I guess we're doing this because I like the book. Tom had mentioned we were racking our brains on what to do next. And yeah, 1 Peter came up, so it's five uh short chapters um written between 80, 60, and 65 uh by the apostle Peter. Uh you know, the rock and and what have you is mentioned in the Gospels uh with the help of Silas. That's referenced in chapter 5, verse 12, I see. Um Peter wrote from uh the Babylon, which is probably a code name for Rome, is what this here is saying. Uh, you know, I think Scott, last time we were doing Hosea, he mentioned the spirit of Babylon. That's uh pretty often referenced kind of trope within uh uh really the whole Bible, is my understanding. So uh he wrote from Babylon, Rome at that time. And Peter is writing to Christians who are suffering for their faith, because their faith during uh Emperor Nero's reign uh and all those things, who really was was going at them. I think uh that's around the time John was ran through his sword, I believe. Um so he's just encouraging them to stand firm in Christ and their faith.

SPEAKER_05

One of the things too that I want to uh mention is I believe Peter was specifically going towards the Israelite or Hebrew people. Am I correct on that? He was more and I and I don't know how valid it is, but I think he's even been known as the first Pope. I think so, but I don't believe that's really how that actually worked out. Um but yeah, he he basically went to the people that he knew the best, where Paul was sent to mostly Gentiles to get them in line and on board and let them understand what's going on. So anybody have anything exciting that happened this week they want to talk about before we get into this? Let's give it a little personal aspect here. We actually do live lives outside of church. Uh, we do.

SPEAKER_01

Uh I I uh went to a film. I haven't been to a film in a long time. And the film was okay. That's certainly writing. That is the name of the movie, or you're gonna be a wrong thing. Oh no, no, no. You're your analysis. That was the analysis. I'm just like I watched that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

It sounds like I wish I would have waited in the next week.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. But it but it's fine. It was it was still a good time. I I I took my wife out and kinda uh we we went on a date, uh sorts, and I was like, Oh yeah, the uh what have we asked for that? It was uh it wasn't it wasn't like a big sit-down or nothing. It was uh I think we were racing to make it to the time of the future because I'm always late for everything, naturally. I'm late, I'm late. Uh so uh but yeah, I I I think we got something relatively nice in a drive-thru. And uh might have been might have been like uh uh He's so romantic, I think. Well, but to be fair, no, the th the re the thing that we celebrate is uh my wife and I uh we went out to our first date as friends, and it didn't end that way. So uh but we went out to pizza and and this pizza parlor doesn't last, it doesn't, it's not around anymore. But it was uh Luciano's and uh the pizza was amazing. You could take that pizza and leave it out and eat it the next morning, it was fantastic. It was it was good. Like it's it's still good. But well, cold pizza's good, but like something like room temperature.

SPEAKER_05

This is yeah, micromes, and who knows what's throwing on it. Great for the belly.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, like your blue cheese. Uh but uh no, no, it was it was it was fantastic. Um there was uh uh sorry pizza, pizza was the whole thing. That was that was the point of it. Anyways, we we we went we went to pizza and uh and it was nice pizza, sure. But it was this little little uh corner shop there, but they had like two tables to spare in the in the in the dining room. And then for whatever reason they were into uh a hookah bar as well, too. So they had this whole extended area where they had just like lined with hookahs and were like, I have no interesting. Grab a slice and yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Go there, and then come get a slice.

SPEAKER_07

That's probably the business, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That was probably the business one. And Monthyl and Grove Chocolate. But I but I was assured it was just tobacco, so but uh but um and and yeah, and then just things kind of uh um became something more. So and that was really cool. And then uh and that actually then me and my wife actually got married in a pizza panel as well. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So uh it was it's a it's a it was uh it's almost a shame I didn't get into pizza, so it would be just like my first photo.

SPEAKER_05

It would have called potato pieces, right? Because the Irish and potato crust.

SPEAKER_02

It could be a million dollar million dollars Brian's pie. Irish Sir Brian's loving that.

SPEAKER_04

I don't have a good place to put one too.

SPEAKER_06

Is there such a thing as Irish pizza?

SPEAKER_04

There is now. Somebody's gonna do it now after that for sure.

SPEAKER_05

Um couple of us had an interesting weekend. Um, long story short, some of us, me being some of us, is probably too old for these things anymore.

SPEAKER_07

I got out early.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, but you got up early. Yes, Rob Dish just the last minute. Um the the four of us went on a hiking trip and I got hurt pretty early on, about a mile into the hike and had to turn back. Um but I got a text the next morning from Pastor Scott going, we should have came with you. This was horrible.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Scott, Scott, and Nate and I ended up going on without uh Tom and Rob, and it was it was kind of an invention. Yeah. Scott had said, I have so much respect for the people in Fellowship of the Ring now. And it was like, yeah, yeah, dude. They did that for like months hiking up to Mount Doom.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, I'll be honest with you, when when they showed up at the top of the hill where I had the van parked, no one has ever looked at me with such love and admiration than Jacobs had.

SPEAKER_02

It was exhausting to get to the top of this mountain while Nate's going to the bathroom, and uh there's a I didn't know there was a parking spot up there, but it was a whole parking area, but I look through the road adventure, and there's a bench, and I was like, I'm gonna lay on this bench while Nate's going to the bathroom. And sure enough, I start walking to the bench, and there opens another section of the parking lot, and I see this van that's like the cross point van. And in my head, I went, there's a lot of vans out there that exist. But then I saw I saw I saw Tom outside of the van looking at me through the passenger door window, and I just smiling at him and I was like, thank God.

SPEAKER_05

It's done. Yeah, I I wish I could have gone on, but um, unfortunately.

SPEAKER_06

I'm learning the more heights that people go on with Scott, the more places you end up that you're not supposed to be. We specifically did the research.

SPEAKER_05

We did the research. It wasn't supposed to be.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, we did the research the first time we went to and ended up on our bellies climbing up a mountain.

SPEAKER_05

Well, I guess the next day they were camped and they ran into one of the park people and they were like, Where were you at? And they told them, and they were like, You're not supposed to be there. Nobody goes there anymore. It's completely untamed. And it was like, Yeah, we know.

SPEAKER_02

We had to tell the hard way.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Yeah, we were supposed to go seven miles the first day, and I think they ended up going three miles the first day.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well, three miles as the crow flies is like twenty miles in mountain trekking.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Yeah, I I I'm I'm sad I wasn't a part of it, but I'm also thinking that the Holy Spirit was like, yeah, you're not supposed to do this.

SPEAKER_02

If you didn't have strong ankles, then you were good. Yeah, I think as the younger characters say. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

This has actually been a problem for years because I've always wanted to be able to roller skate, ice skate, and I can't. I just don't have the ankle strength for it.

SPEAKER_02

Well, it makes you feel a bit. I can't really imagine you roller skating. Right.

SPEAKER_05

I tried I tried inline skating one time, a long time ago, at the skate park with my little cousins. Nice. And I thought I was Barney bad boy, and I ended up breaking my tailbone. So yeah, I yeah.

SPEAKER_06

By the way, there's no one ever been named Barney that's been a bad boy. So that's probably a problem right now.

SPEAKER_05

I was trying to keep it church. Yeah, I know, I know. It's the instant. Yeah. So yeah, that was uh I did have a good weekend though. I was able to get me an Airbnb and you know, stay in that, and it gave me some perspective. I got to kind of be away from everything because out there everything is like 40 minutes. Then we got to eat Thatcher's Barbecue. I did twice.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's a good place to eat. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Uh in that little Daniel Boone cafe or coffee shop. It was a cool spot. Yeah, it was a cool spot. The breakfast burrito I had it the second day I was there. It was it was fantastic. That thing was a monster. So I recommend Thatcher's Barbecue Slate, and I recommend uh Daniel Boone's uh coffee house.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so any sponsors out there. This kid is kidding. Or free food.

SPEAKER_05

Considering we do do all the mission work at the gathering, we are definitely always available for food and clothing that needs to be gotten rid of. We can find a home for it, so there's always that. All right, Sir Brian, let's start with first Peter. Alright.

SPEAKER_01

One one. Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who reside as exiled, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, Ethne, who are chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to the obedience of Jesus Christ, and the sprinkling of his blood. May grace and peace be multiplied to you. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy has caused us to be born again, to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and unfading, having been kept in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith, for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, even though now, for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, to the proof of your faith being more precious than gold, which is perishable, even though protested by fire may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. And though you have not seen him, you love him, and though you do not see him now, but believe in him, you rejoice with joy, inexpressible and full of glory, receiving as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls. Concerning the salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, inquiring to know what time or what kind of time the spirit of Christ within them was indicating, as he was predicting the sufferings of Christ and the glories about to fall. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you in these things which now have been declared to you through those who proclaim the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit to descend from heaven things into which angels belong to Lord Therefore having girded your mind for action being children's spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you by the revelation of Jesus Christ as obedient children, not being conformed to the former loss which were yours in your ignorance, but like the holy one who told you be holy yourselves also in all your conduct because it is written you shall be holy, for I am holy. And if you would read it as a father, the one who impartially judges according to each one's work conduct yourself interfere during the time of your soldier, knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things like silver and gold from your futile conduct, inherited from your forefathers, but the precious blood of the lamb, unblemished and unspoiled, the blood of Christ. He was one long before the foundation of the world, but appeared in these last times for the sake of you, who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. For you have been born again, not into corruptible seed, but incorruptible, that is, through the living and enduring word of God. All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like a flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls off, but the word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the word which was proclaimed to you as good news. Yeah, there's a lot there.

SPEAKER_06

That's a fantastic opening statement. Um my piece before I leave. So in verse three, um, interesting. So it says, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, because of his great mercy has given us new birth into a living hope. That term living hope in the Greek is Elpis Elpis Zosa, E-L-P-I-S-Z-O-S-A. And it literally means a hope that has a heartbeat. I love that I love that. It's the best way I've ever heard that described. Absolutely. Hope that has a heartbeat.

SPEAKER_05

Wow. Yeah, that's yeah. That's kind of my drop right there. And that's why it's so great to have these Bibles that we have, that we can have these references and these extra things that helps us. Because again, when when they're talking, when Peter's talking to his to the Israelite people, they automatically have an understanding of these things that we don't because we didn't live in that time, we didn't speak that language, we weren't a part of that. We are so far removed from that.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, and we lose a lot of that in from one of the studies that I was doing. Like I think we've all talked about it at one point in time, but the Greek language had four different words for the word love. Our English translation of love. Right. So our English translation of the word love is so watered down that sometimes when you read that word, you have to go back to the original language and see which of the love words was being used by the writer because each one means something entirely different altogether. Yes. And it brings that sentence to life by reading it that way.

SPEAKER_01

And that's agreed. And that might be an inferred or an understand love, but at the same time, too, we also have a definition of love. And and and I think that's uh equally valid. So

SPEAKER_05

I used to tell my ex wife that I wish I could find a word stronger than love to tell her that I loved her. And I started looking into those four different versions of it and really there wasn't a good I couldn't still really cause again I know that there are different like it it's interesting that Philip Phil Philo Philo from Philadelphia the Brooks Friendship. Right.

SPEAKER_06

And and that's Eros is romantic romantic and agape. Agape is like gods all encompassing. Yes, yes.

SPEAKER_05

I can never remember the fourth one.

SPEAKER_06

Um storage. Um and that is S-T-O-R-G-E and it's like family. Family, yeah. Family love. Like the love you have within your family reason. But I think that's the reason why it's interesting. And I know I understood what you were saying. Like we have the definition of love in the English language. Well from the okay, if you're looking at it from the biblical perspective. Yeah. So, but like in the English language, how often do we like I tell like we say like we love our significant others? Like and people understand what that means, but then you also have a kid that's like, I love pizza. Like, do you love pizza the same way that I love or we love our spouses or our significant others? So when you when we use the word love, it's hard to define versus using the four in the Greek that define what that is. So if if I use the agape love, everybody would know what I was talking about. Like it was everything, it's not it's not I love God. And they're like, okay, so do I.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

How much do you love God? Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, and I'm glad you brought that up because I've been in circles where um I can understand how in a in a in a marriage where if a spouse said, I love you, to a brother or sister in Christ, where the spouse might be a little uncomfortable with that. Like, what? Who who are you talking to? You know, but that that's the one good thing that you have to be able to take from that. Like, look, it's a brotherly in Christ love or the family love, um, and it's not like the romantic your Euros is romantic.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so yeah, Eros, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So yeah, it's important to be able to have those. Now, also in the Hebrew, they're the first time usage. And I don't know the history there of love. Because their their history is interesting to find out. Yeah, the first usage of a word is what it is always, which is also why I think they had so many or so less of words. Like they didn't have the vernacular that we have, you know. Like fast means two or three different things, you know, and you know, theirs, you know, that kind of thing.

SPEAKER_06

So if you look at it from the Hebrew perspective, this is from Genesis 22, 2, where it says he said, Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you. The Hebrew word is A-H-E-B-Aheb. Um, and it encompasses all of the Greek, how Greek separates them out. Hebrew takes them all together, so it means human love for one another, including family, family and sexual, uh human appetite for objects, such as food, like I love people, yeah, yeah. Um human love for God or the act of being a friend. Okay.

SPEAKER_05

So it's actually more like what we use it today.

SPEAKER_06

Correct. The Hebrew is more like the English word love versus the Greek word where it actually spells out the individual categories within that category. Sorry, I didn't get it, mean to get us off topic.

SPEAKER_05

No, that's why I said it.

SPEAKER_01

But like but I think also too, like uh uh our our example of the child saying that they like the pizza, um I think that can be challenged. Right? Uh pizza pizza comes along with pineapple on it, and people give up on their love for pizza. Hold on a minute. Pineapple belongs on pizza.

SPEAKER_05

Exactly, brother. Okay, make sure we agreed on that. I didn't want to give it in everyone, you know. Fight over a pineapple on a pizza.

SPEAKER_01

I had I had a little one attack on me the other day because I because I was I was I was uh uh debating for pineapple on pizza.

SPEAKER_05

Well, I mean we had that trip where we went for that hike, and we decided that pretty much everything goes on tacos, too. We put like sweet potatoes on them and cottage cheese and strawberries and everything. It was fantastic. But then again, we just finished the hike, and you know what that's like.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, you probably anything sound.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, you could have put gravel on it.

SPEAKER_06

Worms and dandelions, and it would have been good. It was fantastic. Yes, there are such things called dessert tacos.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, there are. The Pizza Hut used to have that great pizza dessert.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, dessert tacos where I could you could put some.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Which is no cilantro.

SPEAKER_06

That's on regular tacos, that's right.

SPEAKER_07

That's why I wouldn't have tastes oddly clean.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, right.

SPEAKER_06

Um sorry, Jacob. Didn't mean to take away your thunder. I I don't have any thunder before.

SPEAKER_02

You're good, huh? I didn't have a plan coming in or anything.

SPEAKER_05

Um so I was looking at it earlier and I did highlight some things I want to go to, let's just start with verse 13. Therefore, having girded your minds for action, being sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. And what I want to fix on or focus on is fix your hope completely on the grace. That is one of the biggest things that we miss out on when talking about Jesus. The grace part. We've talked about it here, me and Brian's talked about it quite a bit. Leave room for grace. And understand that grace is something you get that you can't earn and that you don't deserve. And that's exactly what Jesus' sacrifice was about. It wasn't about being angry with us, he was not being mad at us, he was not, he's not holding you over a fiery pit of hell to drop you in it. He's there to give you the grace to make you understand that you can't do it alone, and that he's there for you.

SPEAKER_06

Yep, yep. And we often we often overlook that, at least my growing up in in Roman Catholicism was in even my early on with the the churches of Christ, we never really they never really talked about grace. And Tom, you could probably, Tom and Jacob, you probably talk about that. But even in Roman Catholicism, you know, I was always told by my mom, and it's not a bad thing, but she would always tell us, uh, make sure you do your good deed of the day. You know, because at the end of the day, like there was going to be some kind of scale that you were going to be judged on, much like I think um Muslims are are judged on that same characteristics of does your good outweigh your bads?

SPEAKER_05

Well that goes even into the Egyptian where they weigh your heart at the end of life, and if it's lighter than a feather, then and that's the one thing that I definitely want to make sure that grace is given freely. You have to accept it, and it's not about your good deeds.

SPEAKER_03

Nope.

SPEAKER_05

There's no amount of good deeds that you can do that is going to be anywhere remotely close to what Jesus did for us. Yep. So let's just make sure that we understand that the good deeds that you do is a transformation of the heart when you fall in love with Jesus. When you fall in obedience to Jesus. You start to realize, like I think you said it one time in Bible study, Jacob, like this is the guy who created everything and he died on a cross horribly for us. What are we doing? Why are we sitting here complaining about the weather or that our car is busted or whatever?

SPEAKER_01

But I think it's important to also uh kind of think on is uh what about the the atheist or something who has uh the capacity to still do good? And I think it's still the the the echo of the uh those those notions kind of written on their heart. So uh so it's not without a capacity. Uh uh Jesus is still always involved in that in that measure.

SPEAKER_05

So like one of that the the one joke and somebody told it the other day we were somewhere, and I'd heard it time and time again uh about the poor woman that prayed. Yes, because she couldn't afford her groceries.

SPEAKER_03

Oh no, no, how do you think?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, there was this this poor old lady, she was crying and praying because she couldn't afford groceries, she didn't know what she was gonna do. And I guess the neighbor next door was an atheist, and he heard her prayer, so he went and bought groceries for her and left them on the porch, and she came out and she saw them, she was like, Oh, thank God you answered my prayers. And he comes out and she says, Oh, you silly woman, don't you know that I bought those groceries for it wasn't God? And she goes, Oh, you even got the atheist buying me groceries, God doing your work. That's a good idea, though. Oh, yeah, that that's heard that time and time again. And it's beautiful too. But and yeah, I mean, there are people out there, and and let's let's look into the atheist part of that. I grew up that atheists were Satan worshippers. Maybe you guys did, and maybe you didn't hear that. Did you hear that?

SPEAKER_01

Well, well, okay, okay, so so yes. In as much as if you're not on board, yes, like the spirit of antichrist. Agreed, agreed. Yes. Yeah, yes. So so so if you aren't worshiping Jesus, right? You are worshiping something false, or you're worship you, or you're following something that is antichrist. Correct. Yes.

SPEAKER_05

But I I just want to make sure that just because we say atheists, it doesn't mean that they're bowing down to Satan and praying to Satan. No, no, no, agreed, agreed. I don't I don't think that at all. Yeah. That's kind of what I grew up with. Like people would say that and I'd be like, oh my goodness, you what what?

SPEAKER_01

Well, but I've also heard it sorry, were you gonna say something, brother? But I've also heard it also to express uh uh the spirit of Lucifer as well, too. So the the uh the rebellious one. So following in those footsteps. Uh because I've also I've heard terms like uh Satanist and Luciferian and all these other different things as well, too, meaning different things that in the end honestly don't uh don't matter for anything. Yeah. So uh but uh I think uh I'm sorry, w with with with you being told that I don't I don't I don't think no that they're actually uh not worshipping not all of them, anyways. Some folks are, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

I mean if you from from what I've heard, most atheists know the Bible just as well as we do. Yeah. Well two groups. They've read it and they think they're not. Right, right, right, right, right, right. Right. I no, no, no, no, no. I I get that, I understand it, but I think is if you look at that, if you look at I don't know, you I think you know, if you understand atheism like there's no belief in a in a in a god or you know, that nature or anything like that, but you're almost by doing that, you're almost disproving your atheism. If that makes sense, yeah. By doing that, like there's you know, they don't believe that there's necessarily someone controlling everything that's going on, and and and you know, people are kind of wandering the earth and doing whatever they want to, and you know, there's at the end of time there's gonna be nothing, and you know how depressing that is. Um, you know, I'm I would what was it? I think uh the Christian rapper Lecrae said uh one of his quotes was Um, I'd rather live my life like there was a God and not be a God than the other way around.

SPEAKER_05

Amen. I just actually said that on somebody's post the other day.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, like so um it it's it's scary. You know, that that but again, if you look at that from your perspective, Brian, as you were talking about that what idol are you worshiping at that point? You're worshiping yourself. Yes, yeah. Yeah. Because you're the only one that can control anything that happens in your bubble, science or like human knowledge or which is a ludicrous concept.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Because if it is ourselves that we worship, we are terrible gods. Terrible. I've said that numerous times. I am impacted by the weather, I'm impacted by uh uh society, the the government. There's there's so many things that are over me as a god, uh it it's it's nonsensical for me to say anything like that. Right. All right. So yeah, agree. Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but to be a specific atheist, uh it's just a lack of belief in any God. Yeah. Yeah. I hadn't heard the Satanist thing, but it makes sense in the ways you were saying, like if you're not for me, you're against me.

SPEAKER_05

But uh Yeah, and I think that's the thing that has to be suppressed one more too, is the whole antichrist thing. There's not just one antichrist, it's the spirit of antichrist. That's good. And it's basically if you're not for me, you're against me kind of thing.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_05

Because if you look at the way the world is run today, I mean, it's all about me. What can I get for myself? What can I how can I make my life better? And that would be very anti-Christ, in my opinion.

SPEAKER_02

Well, and and to go back to the verse you had mentioned in the first place, verse 13 there, uh therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, say your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming and going into verse 14 as well. As vo obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. Uh, I think a issue I had with grace when I came more conscientiously into the faith, I guess you'd say, and I'm sure a lot of other Christians is you know, there there is an aspect of our faith, like it is an actionable faith, and there is action involved there. And I think a lot of people when trying to balance uh the grace and action part, they get too lenient on the action and and try to, and you know, there's an inherent legalistic kind of nature within us, and it's uh I think it's something that it's an easy trap to fall into for some folks. But I think when I read this, uh it makes me think, you know, be alert and fully sober and set your hope on the grace to be brought to you. And grace is being brought to you and it's already brought to you as well. And I think inherently, if if you are obedient and acting as an obedient child, as it goes into say verse 14, if you're acting as an obedient child, then by its nature of being obedient comes the action. You don't have to rely on any action. You know, it's uh what is it, John uh 15, where uh Jesus says, I am the vine, you are the branches. You can do nothing, you can bear no fruit apart from me. So in that same way, uh, you know, Christ is the vine. Just by abiding in Christ and focusing on your relationship with Christ, by that nature, you're you're a branch, you're gonna bear fruit. So there's no, like, the action that'll be taken will be provoked through the Holy Spirit through your obedience, if that makes any sense. And you know, when I first read Peter, it was like, oh, wow, that's great. And then it goes on to verse uh 17, um, which is uh one of my favorite verses. I try to, it's one of those verses I got like uh I keep in the chamber, you know, and you get uh provoked by uh your own flesh or you know the spirits or what have you, and and uh you try to keep a few in the chamber. Uh since you call on a father who judges each person's work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. I just I really love that.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Yeah, I love so many references it has here is the Father, God the Father, God Father of Jesus Christ. Um I I like all those references in this particular chapter. Um speaking of in the twenties, there there was another one that I had. Twenty-two, and it goes back into what you were saying a minute ago. Since you have in obedience, since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a love of brothers without hypocrisy, I go to what you say, like we all had that keeping up with the Jones at some point in our lives, we'd see somebody with a new truck or a new TV and we'd be envious and jealousy, and it'd be like, I wish I had that. He doesn't deserve that, I deserve that. Um but now, like Brian said, he says, Oh, that's wonderful for him. How great that he has that. And that's what I think about when it says love of brothers without hypocrisy. You you fervently love one another from the heart, which I think is what we have, whether we realize it or not, we have grown more into that in our journey over the last couple years, especially with the work that we're doing down here. Um and we said it many, many times, you know, we gotta have people to love on to show them the love of Christ. You have to go where the sick people are, you have to go. I think it was uh one of our our our women here said that the church is a hospital for sinners. How more prevalent is that? Like it really is. Always has been, always rubber. Yeah, exactly. And even Jesus says, you know, what why would I go to the people that don't need me?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

You know, so and that's what I love about us being down here, our move. That's what I love about us finding the gathering and being able to love on people and show them the love of God the way that it's supposed to be. The way that it was intended to be. And that that verse right there kind of nails it home for me. For you have been born again, not to corruptible seed, but to incorruptible, that is through the living and enduring word of God. And again, the foundation of God, God is love. You sent me the text the other day. You you'd be able to say it better than I could, talking about the Trinity. God is love.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, right, right. No, I'm sorry, I forgot about that part. Um, yeah, I I sent it to you.

SPEAKER_05

It was it was a great example, and after looking at it and thinking about it, I was able to basically sort of confirm what he was saying.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. All right, so the the the thought occurred to me. Uh I'll just read it verbatim, yeah, so that I'm not trying to extrapolate and mess it at all. Uh sorry, Corinth uh 1 Corinthians 13, 13. But now abiding by faith. Hope, love are these three. And the greatest of these is love. And then I said, these three, like a trinity? Do you think love is our holy father? Faith could be the Holy Ghost, and hope is our dearest brother, holy Jesus. And I know that we emphasize the importance of a word by repeating it like holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty. But things can have multiple meanings, because again, I've always thought that that uh the Lord speaks to us in in volumes, e when we read a single word. So uh so given that exaltation, holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, could it also be addressing each member of the Trinity? Just as a cool thought. So again, we say it three times to stress its importance. Yes, we are speaking about the Trinity. So is it a holy for the Father? Is it a holy for the ghost? And a holy for the Son? Like just I that I thought it was a really cool thought.

SPEAKER_05

Uh I was just saying, yeah, but I want to share that. And I know that with the Hebrew, they say it three times means it's like super important. Agreed, it's a very important thing. And we know that God is love, we know that uh faith is the Holy Spirit, and we know that um Jesus is the hope of things unseen. Yes. So it made a lot of sense to me to be able to say, yeah, that's that's very prevalent, that's a very good way to explain the Trinity. Right. What do you got right? I see you scoundrent for something.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I'm trying to find the footnote. Um because that what you just said, the holy, holy, holy um all right, Brian. So to your point, I loved what you just read. Uh-huh. And I think that's awesome. That that's tied like that too. So I'm going to confirm even more what you just said. Maybe genuinely. Okay, fantastic. Okay. So it was just a thought, but in Revelation chapter 4, verse uh eight, it says, each of the four living creatures had six wings. They were covered with eyes around and inside day and night. They s never stopped saying, holy, holy, holy. So my footnote says, holy, holy, holy echoes the description of the seraphim in the heavenly throne room in Isaiah six, one through three. Isaiah six, verse three. And the one called to another, holy, holy, holy is the Lord of armies. His glory fills the whole earth. The footnote, the word holy, spoken three times, is emphatic or superlative and points to God's otherness.

SPEAKER_07

Well, that's great. I've never heard that word in otherness.

SPEAKER_02

That's great. God's otherness. Yeah, that's pretty cool. I like that.

SPEAKER_06

Which goes perfect into what you just said about the reference of holy, holy, holy and the descriptions of God that you gave fit that perfectly.

SPEAKER_05

Trinity has always been something that has been debated and fought over and tried to be discussed. And honestly, that right there I think is a really good way of doing it. I mean, there's all kinds of different examples, and it never really It's a less confusing way that you put it back. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Um so yeah, there's that. So I want to go back into verse 2 of Peter 1. And it says, who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father through the sanctifying work of the Spirit to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood. Um I like the part that is saying chosen according to the foreknowledge. And we've had this conversation before. Yes, God knows all. He's omniscient, right? Omnipresent outside of time and space. He knows He knows the decisions that we're going to make. Our free will gives us the ability to choose whatever we want to do, and yes, God knows what we're going to choose. But we've talked about GPS, God's postal service. Parcel, yeah. Parcel service. He always gives us little cues, little directions, whatever, to take a chance to come back. And we always talk about the grace part, and the New Testament is off, you know, it's it's very love and everybody together, and people get all bent out of shape about the Old Testament and all the stuff that happens there. But they forget about the grace that is in the Old Testament, too. He always comes. We just finished Hosea, and he talks about, I still love you, I will still take you back. In Deuteronomy, same thing. Um I think it was in Nineveh. Jonah didn't want to go preach to them because he knew God was going to forgive him. And that's something that I think gets missed out on in the Old Testament, is even in the Old Testament, there are so many chances and opportunities where God says, I still love you and I will still bring you back into the fold. So we've talked about it. Um brother, Jesus, he's our half-brother, and in verse 4, it says, into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade. The inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. Um the part that it says, your inheritance that can never perish.

SPEAKER_06

I think it's one of those things, too, if you look at if you look at his the the greeting section of this, so Peter's writing to a group of other believers that have been dispersed throughout the Roman Empire because of persecution, so they couldn't stay where they were at that point in time. So his writing in this, the the the pericamies, there's your word of the day for you, those are that's the little headings above each of the sections in the Bible. So the so the first one is a living hope, a call it a holy living. So I think his when he's talking about that to your point, Tom, like when he's telling them all this thing, like how your inheritance is imperishable, um, you're being guarded by God's power, like he's like he's almost like, I understand that things are bad right now, and whatever's going on is happening, and but there's a greater hope that you have. Um because for me, it's verse 8. Though you have not seen him, referring to Jesus, you love him. Though not though not seeing him now, you believe in him and you rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy because you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. In that, and this was written, what did we say, 80 60 to 67. So you're looking at 30 plus years after Jesus' death and resurrection. And resurrection on this. So there are some people that I'm sure that there are some people in this into who Peter is writing to knew Jesus. Maybe not have known him, like obviously like Peter, but like they saw Jesus. Like I was in a crowd when Jesus was speaking, or and then you have some in that that are like us that weren't privy to that, that weren't privileged to that.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

And it's almost like he's like, hang in there.

SPEAKER_05

Well, that's that's why I preferenced to first because it says chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father. Right. The people who knew, but they weren't privy, they weren't in his presence with her. So yeah, that's why I preferenced that first before I went into four. Um, but yeah, it's just I think at the beginning, and I like that you brought that up, whatever that word was you said. Um Pericabes. Pericabes. I'm gonna say Maccabees, but it's Pericabes. Um it says, praise to God for a living hope. And again, we talked about it some minute ago. Jesus is the hope, is the hope that's unseen, and that goes into it with uh verse 8, like you said, though you have not seen him. Like this, the first nine verses here, I guess you could kind of almost see them in a way that is not as glorious as they really are. You know what I'm saying? Like it this is actually a very good news. This is actually very like an uplifting thing. In six, it says, and all this greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief and all kinds of trials. And and we've talked about that. Like, I know it's difficult to praise the trials. I know it's difficult to praise in the hard times, but I say it over and over again to our people. Know that there is something yet to come that is better. You're going through this season, this storm, to come out of it much better than before.

SPEAKER_01

Tell me, is is it not the way I look at it when when we speak about these things uh uh I I I think I've expressed it before. I like I I it still amazes me that uh God didn't take that etched sketch and just shake it and start again.

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So uh and and and you might argue the flood, but again, he took a people out of that. So the thing is is is when we go through trials, we can look at ourselves like those folks on the ark. We're still here. Yeah. Yeah. All right, so I'm gonna go through this. Yeah. But I am still here now. Yes. There is a purpose, there is an intent.

SPEAKER_05

I have another day to figure this out, to deal with this and to move forward. And to always be praising God. I understand how hard that is, but when how many people have we heard since we've started this journey that they're like, yeah, I mean, it's all because of God. It's because we've turned ourselves over to God. We stopped looking for other things like the drugs and the alcohol and whatever it is that they're they're ailing with and dealing with it and and being prepared for what God has next for them. There's been just countless, countless, and I see it throughout all of America. If you look at the news, it's small, they don't highlight the good stuff. All they highlight is the bad stuff. But the good stuff is there, and it's it's worth going through the trials. And my big thing for me is what am I unlearning? What bad habit that I was relying on myself, that I was relying on my own. Like I was a big proponent of um, I didn't trust my mind, I trust my back and my arms and my legs. You know, that's what I trust. I know those things will carry me through. I didn't feel like I had the intelligence and the brain power to do what needed to be done. And we talked about it a little bit yesterday. Like I got the one son that can do the math to figure out the angles, I got another son that just knows them inherently and knows how to build things and do things. So, yeah, I've always been that guy where that's the chair on the table. Oh, of course, the course. Yeah. I think we've got one that I've got to figure out when you were downstairs with us. So but yeah, it's just these first nine verses, and probably even most of the chapter, to be honest with you, probably all the way down to to twelve. Twelve is a long one.

SPEAKER_06

I was just still learning. Sorry.

SPEAKER_05

Um angels look to long to look into these things.

unknown

Like, wow.

SPEAKER_05

Like, what is I mean, take that and look at that. When they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you be the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. They don't get the Holy Spirit. Yeah, they don't they don't have a soul for salvation. They might be able to experience it in a different way that we can't really understand because they're angels, and I I would imagine as angels, they experience the presence of God in a more literal, exact kind of kind of way. But they not having souls don't get to have there's nothing for the Holy Spirit to inhabit since they don't have a soul. Yeah. Yeah. I think I think three through nine is since Peter is writing this to kind of uh you know show love to those and cur and encourage those being persecuted during what we were saying, Nero's time and the Roman Empire, all these provinces and exiles, Pontus, Galatia, Capitol, you know. Uh I feel like three through nine is kind of a consolidated and in Peter's own words version of the gospel.

SPEAKER_05

Right.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And he's really just like, he's he's made he's putting it in this kind of light, this consolidated kind of way for them to be able to read succinctly and let it sit on their heart and be encouraged. You know, not to say that you can't read Matthew as a full gospel and whatnot, but you know, the letters and you know, those folks they probably didn't have copies of Matthew, copies of this, and then they had stories and all these things. So this is you know something that they can probably commit to memory and really think on and meditate on.

SPEAKER_05

And like we were saying too, he's speaking to the to the Hebrew people or the Israelite people. So they would have had a lot of the Torah already memorized, they would have already had a lot of those things and understood those things inherently just because it was their whole life. Where when Paul talks to the Gentiles, he kind of starts from scratch. You know, he's starting a whole like a lot of them, like I loved in the chosen when they showed the the Roman guard, you know, he didn't understand what Shalom was. You know, he started kind of moving that way, and I love that he blew out, they blew out all the idols and stuff in the room. Yeah, they blew all that up, and they started being more towards Jesus. And uh, yeah, so it's like they had no recollection or no information of Torah of anything that happened in the Maccabees, even you know, all those things, the Jubilees, they wouldn't have known all those things. They would have been so wrapped up in their own traditions, now they're trying to figure out a lot of the traditions that the Hebrew people had kind of went by the wayside with Jesus. Like all the festivals and all the sacrificing and all the stuff.

SPEAKER_02

Well, and then and the temple was destroyed in 78.

SPEAKER_05

Was the final destruction of the temple. But the tearing of the veil when Jesus died on the cross, that was pretty much the end of the temple.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Whether they knew it or not, whether they understood that or not.

SPEAKER_01

I'm I might have said this before, but I think I think we do a disservice to a degree. To not even uh follow along and understand uh the celebrations. Because again, you're missing out on stuff that Jesus actually went and celebrated with. And and not not as a ceremonial uh thing, because we are under a new covenant covenant, but at the same time too, like he hasn't done away with it, he's finished. He's fulfilled it. Yeah, so so um again, I I think like in the manner that we uh we do uh treat our holidays as a focal point and not holiday. No one no one to a degree uh no one uh uh treats them as holy days as much anymore. Right. But I I think uh I I think it would it would be kind of cool to kind of just celebrate Passover or or the the Tabernacle Feast of Tabernacles just kind of go out and just just go out and and be in fellowship with your brother.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And and just like this is what Jesus would have done like during these celebrations as as he celebrated.

SPEAKER_02

Well unrelated, unrelated, but I feel compelled to clarify. I'm I'm certainly willing to be wrong on this, but I do think Peter is writing this to Christians all throughout the empire, not necessarily Israelites or Israelites who transitioned to be Christians because provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithnea. So uh and Peter being the one who kind of, you know, as Christ said, kind of founded the the church. I think he's writing it to uh Christians everywhere. Uh and which, you know, I'm sure is is uh uh in in that in that same vein, it's it's a mix of people who were Jewish, are Jewish or partially Jewish, Gentile, yeah, uh maybe Samaritan and whatever it's just all of the Christian believers within those provinces at that time.

SPEAKER_05

Well, I think so with Samaritans, I I I I know that there was a beef between the Israelites and the Samaritans. I've never really kind of looked into what it was, but they were of the same belief system because they worshiped the same Yahweh that the Hebrews did, I believe. But since you said that it says two gods elect exiles scattered throughout the provinces of so yes, they were scattered among all these other areas, and there could have been, like you said, Gentiles mixed into it. But um I think the part that it says two gods elect, which would have been the Israelite people, and then they were exiles scattered throughout the provinces, probably because of their faith, because of them wanting to believe in Jesus or whatever, because I believe for a short period of time it was even today, actually, people are getting persecuted for worshiping Jesus, for having a Bible.

SPEAKER_02

Well, pre pre-Jesus, I I think I think that's right, where Israelites are God's elect. But post-Jesus, right, uh you know, I feel like if you're you're God's elect, then and I guess we we'd have to see, we'd have to look at the original Greek and and different context clues to really get a full idea rather than just our opinions. But um what just reading those first few words there, it's a God's elect, I would think that's anybody who you know has come to faith in Christ. Pre-Christ, uh, that's the Israelite people. Post-Christ, after the church, and you know, you read Acts and the day of Pentecost and Peter's preaching and all those things, and and then Peter goes on to uh you know have that vision where uh he sees all these different beasts and God is like, Eat. Yeah, and he goes into the Gentiles' house and is condemned. Um I think uh Peter is writing this after having gone through that experience in Acts, and the church has been going through their things for the past however third, what are we saying kind of 34 years at the most, it sounds like then then God's elect would probably be, and like I said, I'm willing to be wrong on it, we'd have to look it up more, but I I would think it's those who are in the fold of Christ.

SPEAKER_05

Well, I and I and I'm one line with you, but I would be willing to say that the the difference here is people that were still doing the old law, still obeying the old law, they were still like phariseu type uh believers or Sadducee type believers, where he I'd say Peter is probably explaining to them that the old law is fulfilled and the new covenant is in Christ. So, and again, you could be wrong, I could be wrong, we need to do more research and we can talk about it again later, but it it is a good thought process to look at that and have these conversations and be able to have these intellectual conversations, and I still love you as a brother.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I'm so mad at you.

SPEAKER_05

I'm not gonna flatten your tires in the parking lot.

SPEAKER_02

And that's the thing, it's not really, you know, the as as Paul and others write, you know, uh the body of Christ, which is the church, you know, the head can't say to the foot, I want to be a foot, and vice versa, and all these things. So in the same way, uh, you know, you have a talent and I have a talent, and we all have different talents, like I can't have Tom's or Brian's or vice versa. Uh we can't all be, and I, you know, none of us have gone to seminary and you know, done a lot of those studies, and we just can't. Not everybody is a person who needs to go to seminary. But what we all kind of need to be is that person who is willing to have those conversations. You know, Isaiah uh or is it Isaiah, uh yeah, Isaiah chapter one, I believe, maybe chapter two, says he says, let us come, come, let us reason together. And it's pretty much like let us let us have these discussions and talk about and meditate on God and whatnot. And uh, like, yeah, we can go and we we should go and study things and read books, I think, in our personal time, but we're not all gonna go to seminary and do such and such and so and so and be experts, and that's fine. That's that's the head saying to the foot in those things, but yeah, we need to be having these conversations, and then after the podcast or whatever, we'll go, hey, I looked it up and look at this article or whatever it might be.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's a good call.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, yeah. I mean, we've talked about that quite a bit, but um and one of the things that I love in in thinking about that and talking about that is the reference to making you fishermen of men. As and I'm not a great fisherman, but I know that there are different baits to be used to catch different fish. And I think that's the reference that needs to be looked upon when he says, I'll make you a fisher of men. He knows that Peter is going to be able to speak to a certain group better than Paul or James or John or whoever. Like you can catch fish that I can't, I can catch fish that you can't, Sir Brian can catch all the fish.

SPEAKER_02

Well, and maybe you maybe Tom have finds that he likes using a Texas rig better. And I enjoy or find that I catch more fish using a crankbait. Right. You know? Right. So yeah, yeah, absolutely. Personally, I've had the best luck with just regular worms. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

If I put anything else fancy on there, I don't have any.

SPEAKER_02

Worms are fun. I love using a crankbait because it's actionable and you can keep going, you can kind of play with it and stuff.

SPEAKER_05

That is fun to do, and I've caught almost caught it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

That sucker got away. I got him up to the bank and I reached down to grab him, and he snapped my line and took off.

SPEAKER_02

Let's go with some smallmouth master.

SPEAKER_01

Sorry, to earlier uh you were saying that you get confused about uh the Samaritans, and I and I looked it up for the Bible hub. Uh that's a good ad. Uh okay? Yeah. Uh so this one here says uh Samaritans can be traced back to the division of a united monarchy of Israel after the reign of King Solomon. Okay. Now their beliefs and practices differ in as much as they only accept the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Hebrew Bible. So the Torah. The Torah. But the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Torah. Yeah, well, that's what the Torah is, is the five first five books. Is that right? Yeah. My apologies. Yeah, sorry. Uh first five books of well, but they call it the Pentateuch. There's there's there's Torah, there's Tanakh, they only they accept only the Pentateuch in parentheses, the first five books of the Bible.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Parenthesis end. Interesting. So that's what they're saying. So Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Pentah is five, so Tanakh is, I think, Torah, Nevave, Neveim, and then Ketavim.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Just to clarify. I thought I really know what that means.

SPEAKER_01

I know the words, but I'm not 100% on exactly what particular parts of the Bible they are, right? Pentateuch as their sacred scripture, rejecting the rest of the Hebrew Bible, this disagree uh sort of this divergence in religious text and practices contributed to a long-standing animosity between Jews and Samaritans. So you got a little background.

SPEAKER_05

So the interesting thing about that is like they didn't have much in those days. Like the Torah would have been pretty much all they had. They wouldn't have had necessarily Well, no, they they had Isaiah and they had or they had the stories of Elijah. They wouldn't have had the books. Or would they have had the scrolls in? I don't know. Like like Jews. Spoken word, yeah. Yeah, it would have been transferred down from the Pharisees down somewhere.

SPEAKER_02

Because they referenced them a lot. Yeah. So yeah. They probably had the original manuscripts and all that.

SPEAKER_05

But that also goes to me thinking that they're like Sadducees. Because the Sadducees were very much the first the Torah, they were very much no resurrection. Where the Pharisees believed in the resurrection and the fulfillment of law into a new covenant. I don't think that the Sadducees did that. Again, this is just me kind of spitballing. I'm not a hundred percent on that, but I know that the Sadducees did not believe in resurrection, and the Pharisees did. Like I since kind of doing this, I have more empathy towards the Pharisees than I initially had. Like they were they were misguided and they were they mistook the signs, don't get me wrong, but they still had an open mind to it.

SPEAKER_02

Where I feel like the Sadducees didn't. I think that's why Jesus is kind of really hammering down on them because they were they were so close and uh you know the Jews they had Psalms. If that if that's true about the Samaritans, as Brian read, then uh the Samaritans just had you know Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Well, it even talks about King Solomon too in that. And then so Chronicles, Kings, Psalms, Psalms which prophesies Christ, Isaiah, which is a lot of all that kind of stuff, and you know, Ezekiel and Daniel, I mean, son, Daniel, son of man, prophesied. Uh so the Jews, they had all those things, and then I think that's why Jesus was really hammered down on the Pharisees, particularly because they had all the tools to be able to see Christ, and they had the theology, but they were just they missed it because of their own ego and love of money and co power and all those things. I'm glad you said that because uh I'm sitting here thinking about it.

SPEAKER_05

So the Pharisees were focused on the David part, the son of David, Hosanna, the son of David. They were focused on who David was and what he was like, not so much the prophesying of who was to come. They wanted somebody like David, and I say that because we we miss out on what in in our society, we focus on the negative, we focus on the bad. We don't think that you know, 365 days a year, 40 of them you might be sick, and the other 325, whatever it is, you're completely healthy, and everything's good. But you focus on those forty days of terribleness. Um so that's kind of I think the Pharisees were focusing on a king that was going to come and put them on high and oppress the oppressors when when you read throughout, and we have it, we have that advantage, we have all the books, and we can sit and study and do the research. Um, we see the signs of a sacrificial lamb. We see the signs of you know, the lamb of God. You know, we we see it more clearly than they were able to see it, but they were at fault too with the whole woe is us, we want to be on high, when will we get our shot? You know, when am I going to be better than them?

SPEAKER_02

Well, they they like the status quo a lot, too. I mean, well, I'm sure they did. There's a an element of that in it. But but yeah, they I think they expected uh you know somebody to come in and slay all the Romans.

SPEAKER_05

Really, that's what they were expecting. Yeah. They were expecting to come in and they would oppress the Romans and they would be head head honchos and they would be in squalor. Right. Which if you go back and read all the times, any time they got too big for the bridges, they got smacked. Right.

SPEAKER_01

But but at the same time too, like we they they just overlooked the the real enemy, which Jesus was actually going to free them from that oppression. Yeah. Which was themselves. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

To be just blunt about it. They were their own worst enemies. Thinking they were better than who they really were. So yeah. Let's go ahead and say a prayer and call it, and then we'll go down and join the other group for a little bit. So Jacob, you want to pray us out? Sure.

SPEAKER_02

Heavenly Father, thank you so much for this day. Thank you for all my friends and and family, and uh we just thank you for love and your love and for grace. Uh you are holy, holy, holy, and just absolutely magnificent beyond belief, and we cannot comprehend your love and your grace. And uh we thank you for all that you give us. Uh continue to give us wisdom and discernment and humble us, humiliate us, whatever you need to do for us to be uh fully letting go of control and fully uh abiding within Christ you. And we thank you for your your sacrifice and we thank you for all things. And in your son's name we pray. Amen.
