This week, we decided to switch things up and say no.

Jessica and Cali sit down for a very unhinged solo episode, taking a look at several stories in the Bible where people chose disobedience—and what happened because of it. From missed opportunities to difficult consequences, they talk through how saying no to God can impact our lives and our relationship with Him in ways we don’t always expect.

It’s honest, a little chaotic, and definitely different from our usual conversations—but still full of moments that will make you think and maybe even challenge the way you respond when God calls you to something.

And before you get too concerned… Happy April Fools. We’ll be back to our regularly scheduled yeses next week!

SPEAKER_01

Telling myself I would never sing on the podcast, but there you go.

SPEAKER_00

If only the podcast had a video feed, my face would be telling y'all how I really felt at this current moment.

SPEAKER_01

Ladies and gentlemen, this is not your average podcast, clearly. Doing an episode today. What tell us tell us about Jessica?

SPEAKER_00

Well, this episode, since we've had so much incredible success with the podcast, we decided to throw it all out the window and simply start over. Because I think that we've been a little bit off in the premise of the podcast, right? I don't think anybody likes it. No. We we've gotten horrible feedback, and we decided to just ditch the whole concept.

SPEAKER_01

We've only been in like 13 countries and 200 cities. I don't think anyone is liking this podcast.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, not really. But anyway, we decided to ditch the whole concept of say yes with Callie and Jess, and we're gonna actually switch it up a little bit. And Callie, you want to tell them?

SPEAKER_01

We're gonna say no. Okay? We're done saying yes. We're done. We're saying no. And we're even gonna change our names. Instead of Callie and Jess, because it rhymes with yes, it's Call O and Jesso because we're saying no.

SPEAKER_00

There are just no words. There are no words for this conversation. This day's been a day. It's really been a day. How how this is going. But anyway, we um would like to say welcome back, everybody, to another episode of Say No. Say no. With Callow.

SPEAKER_01

What are you doing? Are you ready for me? Yeah, I thought you you were gonna take it away. No, say no. I thought we were doing our names.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Jessica. We're getting a little more formal.

SPEAKER_01

Say no with Jessica and Callie. Yeah. So don't even say yeah, say no. Say no.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Alright, no. Anyway. Anyway. Anyway. One of them that we could say no to would be Gnosis. Pinky's Moses. Moses. I did say no. I love Moses. He's probably one of my favorite people from the Bible. But there was a time in Moses' life where he said no. Right? I mean, he went through his life. He was put in a basket in a river by his mother. He was raised by Pharaoh's daughter in the palace. He's like, basically, hey, you're really treating these people very poorly. And he messed up, killed a guy, ran away. And then God called him to something incredible through not just your normal way of like prayer or worship, through an actual bush that was on fire.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_00

That wasn't actually burning.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_00

And God was like, hey, Moses, like you're gonna go and you're gonna let all these Israelites go. You're gonna tell Pharaoh, hey, let these people go.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And he argued with the Lord. He did.

SPEAKER_00

He was like, nah, I'm not doing that.

SPEAKER_01

I can't do it. It was out of like fear, which I mean, obviously, like, like, give Moses some credit. You know, I I'd be scared too. I'd probably say, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I would very much so probably say no.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, for sure. Um, but I think what the what's important in that passage specifically is like you you see Moses and God, like their dialogue in that, and to think of how like gentle God was with him. Like, because we do we see a lot of like these old like we think that the God of the Old Testament and the God in the New Testament are not the same person. I don't know about you, but like I I have caught myself thinking that. But I mean, obviously, God is the same yesterday, today, forever. He will always be the same. But we do see these moments of like grace throughout um all of the Old Testament. Like in this, like Mo like God says, Okay, like I'm gonna send your brother with you. Like, I'm going to give you these signs and wonders, so you can go to Pharaoh and you can show him and convince him um that like I sent you, I'm gonna give you all of these things that you need. Um, and he he does that, like even in the fall, like with Adam and Eve, the first thing that God did was clothe them. Yeah, that was his first response to their sin, was to clothe them. And then he, you know, told them all the things, but like he really is a gracious God, and we see that all throughout the Bible, not just in the New Testament and not just when Jesus walked on the earth.

SPEAKER_00

And I think something else too, Moses said no, right? But God continued to support him through that, and he gave him what he needed to be successful, and like, hey, you really can't make an excuse not to go and do this because I'm giving you every single piece that you need. You say you can't speak well, well, here's Aaron to go with you and to do this. Oh, you say you can't do this, well, here's this. Like, he gave him all of the supports and all of the things and placed people in his path to be like, okay, you really don't have a reason to say no. And I think something that we have talked about and I've heard in the past is pursuing the no, right? So looking for a reason if it's something that you're like, well, is this a plan that I'm supposed to do, or is this something that I'm supposed to say yes to, something that I'm supposed to say no to? Pursue the no because God will shut it down and he'll show you, hey, this door's not for you to walk through. But he didn't do that in Moses' story. And Moses still said a no. No, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You're talking about pursuing the no. It's that's reminding me of um mine and my husband's relationship. Like our because we got engaged and we got married real fast. We I went from single to dating to engaged to married, all within one calendar year, which was insane. But in anyway, um the timing of it all, and I kind of talked about this in the episode that I did with him, really didn't seem like it made sense. Like we met at a really busy time in our lives, and then the timing of like getting engaged and getting married, we knew we wanted to get married quick pretty quickly, but it didn't make sense, and that was something that I had to be really intentional with is like, God, if this is not from you, if that is not what you want me to do, if this is not your will, shut it down. Like, show me no. So, like, specifically, one way that I really prayed about that was you know, we weren't gonna get married and pursue that if we couldn't have a place to live, obviously. Like, that's a pretty big and pretty important uh part of it. For sure. So that was something. It's like, God, you know, I'm going to submit this to you. And if that, if we can't find this and this is hard and stuff like that, then I'll then I'll know. Like, show me. And it all happened so seamlessly, and it was very evident that it was ordained by God, like that He placed those certain people, like you're saying, just like Moses, those certain people, those certain steps, um, that guidance in my path, so that I did say yes to the situation.

SPEAKER_00

I think something too is that it doesn't mean it's gonna be easy. However, there there are very clear answers when you look for them and you're willing to to trust that process and to kind of see what it looks like. So we know from Moses' story that he did say no, but eventually he kind of came around a little bit. He did. No, he definitely came around. He for sure did. He he came around.

SPEAKER_01

He was obedient, even though he was like, okay, terrified.

SPEAKER_00

I can do this. And he was. He he did it scared, he he did it obediently. And you know, honestly, he had a very much so right to be scared and a right to be intimidated as he was walking through that process of going to see Pharaoh and to ask Pharaoh to let his people go. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

Um I think that that's something that's important to note too, is like, and that's something that I have really started to understand recently because when even though like I okay, even though we are saved and are saved people and the Holy Spirit lives inside of us, we sin and we mess up, obviously. Like we we say no to things that we shouldn't. Like we argue with God just like Moses. And sometimes when we mess up in really big ways, there are like we can feel lots of shame and lots of guilt for that. Um but God you you know, yeah, you should be you should repent and feel like remorseful for your sin and be like, oh, I should not do that. Like, yes, that guilt, like some of that guilt and is a is really a gift from God to push you not to fall into those same patterns. Um but also and I I forget where I heard this, it was quoted somewhere, but talking about like if you are made new in Christ, there's no condemnation for your sin. That's biblical, like that's a Bible verse, but um, that does not mean that there are no consequences for your sins. Um so if I decide to go and rob a bank, like there and I you're not saying robbing a bank? Okay, okay, maybe that was a bit of a I I'm never gonna rob a bank. Um, if I tell you and I'm like, Jessica, I am going to rob a bank? No, no, okay, sure. If I say Jessica, I'm gonna yes, this is perfect. Jessica, I'm gonna go rob a bank tomorrow, and you're like, Callie, what in the world? And that was a lie, right? I sinned, and maybe, you know, there's no, yes, there's remorse and there's shame. Well, I shame on my part, but there's no condemnation for that lie since I've been made new in Christ Jesus. But there are consequences because you're like, oh my gosh, Callie's gonna rob a bank. Maybe you call the cops, maybe I get arrested for threatening to rob a bank. I don't know if that's a thing, but could be. I don't know. I don't know how the law is.

SPEAKER_00

I don't I don't dabble in that.

SPEAKER_01

So I don't dabble in law enforcement. Let me know if you have the answer. But there are consequences to that, and then that relationship is damaged and things like that. Like it that's just important to know. Um, but an example of someone maybe who said no and bore all of the consequences because there was condemnation in that would be Lot's wife.

SPEAKER_00

Lot's wife. And this is such a small story in the Bible. You know, it doesn't get a lot of a lot of airtime, a lot of a lot of press, a long little list within the Bible, but we see this also in Genesis and basically the cities of S I can't even say it. Sodom and Gomorrah. Some and Gomorrah. Yeah, they were getting ready to be destructed. God sent down an angel to warn Lot and her. Oh, well, wait, I said that backwards. I said that so backwards. Lot and his wife, hey, get out of the city. And he gave them a command, don't look back, just keep going. And she was like, nah, I think I'll look back. And immediately when she said no to following that one command that she was given, she turned into a pillar of salt.

SPEAKER_01

Dun dun dun.

SPEAKER_00

I know. It's like so she just basically disappeared into thin air, right? Because she said, No, I'm not gonna follow the command that you kept. And there was a consequence. And, you know, she is somebody that we even see mentioned in the New Testament with Jesus saying, Remember a lot's wife, right? Remember that disobedience. Remember that because your disobedience and saying no, it has consequences.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. Even if something that you don't necessarily think is bad disobedience, like, for example, like if you if the Holy Spirit is really telling you, hey, you need to go pray for this person, and you're like, actually, I'm not gonna do that. Like, we think that that's such a small thing, and you're like, okay, like that's not that big of a deal that I said no in that area. But imagine like how God was trying to work in that, you know what I mean? Like, um, so that's why it's important to, even though you might look crazy and you might be a little crazy being obedient to the Lord, it's important to walk out your life in submission to Him. And we talked a lot about that in last week's episode, too. Like practical ways that we can walk in obedience with the Lord.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. And I think too, you know, you you look at that story and all she did was look back. Like it wasn't like she went out and like killed somebody or robbed a bank, as Callie said. Like, she literally just looked back, and it's just like if you're not willing to fully trust the Lord and say, Okay, God, I'm with you, I'm looking forward and with you forward at all times, yeah, then you're being disobedient.

SPEAKER_01

And it's really easy to take the perspective of God, why would you do that? Sort of thing, on that. And that was actually that reminds me of another story too, of that I that I had that perspective of like, Lord, why would you do that? Like your actions don't make sense in that way. Um, and I mentioned it last week when we talked to Darren as well, which was interesting.

SPEAKER_00

But wait, first, Easter's coming up. Oh, it is coming up, and the stores are full of Easter candy. I love Easter candy. What's your favorite Easter candy? Do you like peeps?

SPEAKER_01

I used to so when I was very little, I used to be a peeps person. Okay, but I am not anymore. I think maybe I ate a stale peep one time and it was.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, like the bunnies or like the actual like little chick ones.

SPEAKER_01

The both. Okay. Both. They're such weird peep flavors, too. It's so weird. It's so weird. I used to love them, but I don't. I think my favorite are probably like the Reese's eggs. The Reese's eggs.

SPEAKER_00

I like the mini ones because the ratio of peanut butter and chocolate is better. Yeah, it's negative calories, right? Basically. That's what Jessica tells you. Basically, if you eat one mini one, it's like that's like five calories, so it just doesn't count.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

I do have a bag of them sitting on my desk right now.

SPEAKER_01

I'm looking at them right now and it says nine pieces are 170 calories. So I don't necessarily think that math adds up.

SPEAKER_00

But it's it's just like a little sweet treat, and you just need one to like curve. To get you through? Yeah. I mean, or a protein bar, but Callie thinks my protein bars are disgusting. They are.

SPEAKER_01

They're literally like gelatin, you can't even chew them. It's not even like you think of like protein bars like the cliff bars or like the kind bars, like actual granola bars. No, this is like marshmallow. It's literal like hard marshmallow. It's disgusting. The color of it, nasty. It's fine. It's got chunks on the top of it.

SPEAKER_00

We all like different things. What's your least favorite Easter candy? Least favorite Easter candy, honestly, like jelly beans. Not like the new flavor jelly beans, like the the what is it, the sour pouch kid jelly beans. Those aren't terrible, but like just like the classic black, red, yellow, you know, like jelly beans. Yeah, it's gotta be like the candy corn of Easter. Ugh. Candy corn. That's what it's gotta be. Yeah. Okay, so speaking of Easter, you mentioned the story uh last week leading up to Easter or Jesus' crucifixion and then resurrection about um Peter, one of his disciples.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I just burped. I hope that did not come up on that.

SPEAKER_00

Uh you want me to redo that?

SPEAKER_01

No, it's okay. It's fine. We can leave it in. Okay. They know I burp. It's okay. Okay, it's okay. Yeah, um, this story conveniently comes out of Matthew 16, and the title of it is Jesus Predicts His Death, which Easter, the death, the burial, the resurrection, and all goes hand in hand. Anyway, I am gonna read the last part of this passage and then kind of break it down for you. So the title of it. Jesus Predicts His Death, and I'm reading out of the NLT version. Uh verse 21. From then on, Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem and that he would suffer many terrible things at the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be raised from the dead. But Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things. This is my favorite part. Heaven forbid, Lord, he said, this will never happen to you. Jesus turned to Peter and said, Get away from me, Satan. You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God's. Then Jesus said to his disciples, If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? That's really good. Is anything worth more than your soul? For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his father and will judge all people according to their deeds. And I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so that's a lot. It's a lot. It's a yeah, it's a lot. So let's unpack it. Let's unpack it. Wait, so I I I want you to you have opinions on this, and I know you've looked into this a lot, but Jesus kind of seems a little angry in this, like calling Peter Satan, right? And Peter questioning Jesus in that. That's that's kind of heavy stuff. It is heavy stuff.

SPEAKER_01

First, I want to look at Peter's reaction. Pete Peter's reaction in this. Um Peter obviously cared about Jesus. Him and Jesus were homies, you know. They were buds. Yeah, he cared about him a lot. So, you know, the thought of a friend, like if you came to me and you were like, I'm gonna die tomorrow, like that the reaction to that would be pretty crazy.

SPEAKER_00

And and we see too, there there's actual scripture um that actually says Jesus calls his disciples friends. So it's not just like they were following in him and he was their leader, like they were friends, they did life together, so they they were buds. For sure.

SPEAKER_01

Um, I imagine some of the other disciples at that time would have been upset too. Obviously, they all cared very deeply about Jesus. And I think that it's important to note that Jesus cares about those feelings and the and those reactions. Um, but that's not the most important thing here. Is you know, Jesus cares about that. Jesus was sad and upset about his death too, but our truth sometimes uh most of the time, all of the time, matters more than our feelings do. Absolutely. And should take priority. And sometimes we, and especially in the world we live in today, we're really told to let our feelings take control and you know follow your heart and all of that. But that's not necessarily what the Lord says. Um so Peter's reaction and all of that, then Jesus turned to Peter and said, Get away from me, Satan, which is like, uh, that doesn't seem like the Jesus that I've been reading about, you know, that doesn't that seems very out of character for him. But it's important to know this language that Peter's using is literally rebuking Jesus. Um and without even really knowing it, Peter was speaking for Satan in that moment and letting those doubts that are you know planted by the enemy take control in that moment. Um and it's the same language that like even Satan used to tempt Jesus of like if you really are the son of God, and the same language that we see in the fall. Yeah, with Adam and Eve. Exactly, when when Satan's like, Well, did God really say this? Is God really this? It's it Peter's doing the same thing, like, you are God, this is not supposed to happen. Um, so the the the reaction that Jesus had is very valid in that of saying, Get behind me, Satan. And then and then, but he doesn't just say that, you keep reading on, and he explains himself in that way of like, listen, set your mind on the things above and not of these earthly things. Like, yes, and I that's so important, even when we go through hardships and hard times, and we want to use that as an excuse to say no and be disobedient, even if we're scared. You know, we just talked about Moses. The truth of God takes priority over all of that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and I think that there's such a difference too the statement or the verse that's in the Bible. It it says, This will never happen to you. That's a statement. It's like he's making a claim, and that's not true, right? It's not true. It's something that he's like, there's no way this is gonna happen. There's such a difference in him making that statement that's just so blatant and obvious. And then us going to the Lord and having questions and having things that we're like, God, what is going on with this? What do I need to do? How can you help lead me in this? There's such a different heart posture in going and being curious and having those conversations and asking those questions rather than just being like, God, this is not it. Right. And and how many times are we saying no to the Lord in that way and not allowing him to show us his full character and in who he is and what he can do and what he can use us for in those times?

SPEAKER_01

That that difference is very important. And I think that we see a good example of that in the Psalms because David had a lot of emotions. He was like a hormonal 13-year-old girl. I mean, read the Psalms. Like that, that is how it is. It's like it's up and down. And he he's like, God, why have you done this? Like he's asking, but he's asking him all these questions.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and we could even go a step further and look at when Jesus is being crucified, and it's like, my God, why have you forsaken me? Exactly. Like he's asking those questions, and there's such a different heart posture in asking versus telling, right? You assume that you already know all the answers. And obviously, we as humans don't know anything, right? We don't know what tomorrow holds. We don't know what five minutes from now holds. Only the Lord knows that. And I think who are we to have those opinions that are so direct in that and not to trust that God has a plan and not to be obedient to that? Sure, we have questions and we have thoughts and things like that, but at the end of the day, are you fully submitting to the Lord's will or are you saying no because delayed obedience or even I forgot where I was going with that?

SPEAKER_01

Delayed obedience is disobedience. Yeah, there it is. There it is. Yeah, for sure. I think it just proves why it's so important for us to keep our mind on the things above, keep our mind on Jesus, um, keep our focus on that. Because when we're not, and it gives Satan a foothold to place these doubts and these lies and these, you know, all of this in our minds because he does not want us to be close to God. He doesn't want us to have that relationship. He doesn't want us to know that God cares about our feelings. Like he does not, he he wants Satan wants our pain. He wants authority over our pain and over those emotions so that he can manipulate them and twist them and let us be led by them. But that is not what the Lord wants for you.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and I think so many times too, we forget that Satan is our enemy and there is a fight going on, and that you know, we it's something that we have to pick up our sword daily and you know, pick up our cross and go and do all these things, but really it's a daily thing that we've got to choose.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, for sure. So even though it didn't make sense to Peter in that moment, just like sometimes when the Lord asks us to do things in the moment, we don't understand at all. You know, me when I dropped out of college, I did not understand at all. I was like, what in the world? Like, I don't understand how anything good could come from that because that was the plans that I had made for myself. Um, and just like Peter, he didn't understand that at all. But think of after, you know, after because there was so much that happened during that time of denying Jesus and all of this like really emotional stuff, but think of after as G as Peter is like in it's been years and he's reflecting back on this and he finally sees the purpose of Jesus dying on the cross. Absolutely. And he understands the gravity of the gospel and of salvation. Um think of how weighty that moment was on him. And he, I bet he no longer uh he definitely no longer looked on that with confusion, but in a way, I think that he he probably looked on that moment with gratitude too, of being like, I'm glad that Jesus told me this to keep my eyes on things above. Um, because I'm I'm sure that that probably really changed his perspective for the rest of his life.

SPEAKER_00

So we've looked at three different versions of no today from the Bible, and that's just three of so many different ones. We've got Moses, and Moses is just such a good example that there is grace when we do mess up and we say no, I'm not doing this. God's still there and he's still got grace and he gives us what we need to be successful. And then we've got Lot's wife who she really said no and turned into a whole pillar of salt. That's yeah. Yep, that's just that. That's just that. She was not obedient. And then we also look at Peter, who he didn't blatantly say no, but he pretty much was saying, This is the opinion that he thought he was saying yes, really, through that.

SPEAKER_01

He thought he was protecting Jesus by saying that, but yeah, he was saying no.

SPEAKER_00

He was saying no without just saying, you know, that little word of no. He was he was still saying no because he wasn't fully submitted to the Lord's plan. But I don't know about you, Callie, but I this all this no talk has kind of got me feeling a little negative.

SPEAKER_01

Oh no, me too. It's making me sad. I don't want to turn into a pillow of salt.

SPEAKER_00

I know, I don't either. Should should we give up the gig and let him know that this is um April 1st? Yep, of 2026. And so that means it's April Fool's Day. And Gotcha! We gotcha. Got him. Next week we will be back with the yes. Say yes with Callie and Jess. We'll be back to regularly scheduled programming. And next week, can't take all this negativity. I can't even more of a glass half full kind of girl instead of a glass half. I think I'm gonna change my name back to Callie too. Yeah, I think that's probably a great idea. Oh man.

SPEAKER_01

Uh I can't take Call O anymore.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, thank you guys for for listening and listening to us ramble. We um we like to have a little bit of fun, and this just keeps it interesting, keeps people on their toes. You get to learn a little bit more about how weird my co-host Callie is um through showing her true self today. You're also weird.

SPEAKER_01

Am I? So yes, you are. You're just as weird as I am. Okay, anyway. All right, um, but just like I'd mentioned, I mentioned this in the episode, and I wanted to reiterate it because we're talking about, you know, our listeners and how thankful we are for them. Um I wanted to pull up some of the statistics, specifically the locations that we've reached. It's so cool to see. This is insane. Hold on. Is this of all time? Pull it up. Yeah, so we have reached 13 total countries, most of that being the United States, but the second country that we've reached is Ireland. We've had multiple listeners in Ireland, Vietnam, Japan, Romania, Germany, Singapore, Ghana, United Kingdom, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and Mongolia, which is insane. Um, the cities that we've reached are constantly growing. We're at, I think, 171 right now. And this is all throughout the US. Um, so many different states and places. In abroad. Yes, in abroad, Tokyo, I mean, all of these places, so cool, so cool. So I want to encourage you guys that the way that we're able to keep spreading the gospel, keep spreading this message of being obedient and saying yes to the Lord is by you guys liking our podcast, following our podcast, following us on social media, um, share it with a friend. If you hear a message and you think, oh my gosh, I have someone in my life who is walking through this exact thing and really needs to hear this, maybe that's your turn to say yes. And to share that with a friend, share it with your family, share it with your neighbor's cousin's girlfriend. I don't know. Just share it. That's how we get the word out and we're able to um keep making this podcast happen.

SPEAKER_00

And we have a lot of fun doing it. So we just wanted to say thank you guys for helping us follow some dreams and some ideas that we have had for a couple years to just really get it out there and get it going. It's such a blessing to get to do this, and I can't believe we get to. I can't either. It's crazy. Yeah, it's literally a dream. So thank you guys so much for listening to another episode of say yes with Calet. And just that concludes our episode for today, and we can't wait to see y'all back next week. Don't forget to like, share, subscribe, and send to a friend.

SPEAKER_01

Owen the Saints, go marching. All right, Owen the Saints, go marching. I can't remember the words.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know the words.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, join in with me. Oh, in the Saints Marching. That was good. See you next week.
