How A Small Team Builds Big Trust in Interior Home Remodels

Rachel Fyffe & Jennifer Tovar

Ever wonder what it really takes to hire a remodeler you can trust? We sit with Jennifer Tovar of One Stop Premium Interior Remodels and get candid about building a family business that thrives on craftsmanship, communication, and follow-through. From custom kitchens and spa-worthy bathrooms to fireplace installations, ADUs, and full interior overhauls, Jennifer explains how a one-stop model can simplify planning, reduce stress, and keep quality high without ballooning scope or timelines.

Jennifer shares the resilient origin story behind OSP. Hector, her husband and the company’s general contractor, learned the trade on the job, launched a firm during the turbulence of COVID, faced health and economic setbacks, and rebuilt from scratch with a sharper focus: fewer concurrent projects, deeper attention, and owner presence on site from demo to punch list. That decision shapes everything—cleaner schedules, tighter crews, and results clients are proud to show off. We also tackle the elephant in the room: contractor myths. Ghosting and unfinished jobs do happen, but they don’t define the entire industry. Jennifer offers practical cues to vet a reliable pro, including responsiveness, detailed scopes, transparent change orders, and day-to-day leadership.

Beyond the tools and tiles, there’s a real family at work. Between travel baseball weekends and garage motorcycle projects, Jennifer and Hector bring empathy and patience to every home they touch. That human perspective matters when budgets shift or surprises pop up behind walls.  Expect clear next steps, steady communication, and a partner who wants you to call back for the next project because the first one went right. If you’re planning a kitchen remodel, fireplace remodel, bathroom refresh, or room addition—and you value craft over chaos—this story will help you choose with confidence.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Now, if you're looking to have the interior of your home remodeled, well, we have the perfect resource for you. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, Jennifer Jennifer Tavar with One Stop Premium Interior Remodels. Jennifer, how is it going?

SPEAKER_02:

Good, good. How are you? Thanks for having me.

SPEAKER_01:

We're really, really excited to learn about your business. So tell us about your company.

SPEAKER_02:

So OSP, which is known as One Stop Um Premium Interior Remodels, is a remodeling company. We focused on custom kitchen remodels with beautiful bathroom transformations and high-quality fireplace installations. Aside from that, we pretty much do everything for your home when it becomes for an full interior remodel. We also do ADUs and room additions. So we are pretty much your one-stop shop.

SPEAKER_01:

Wonderful. Well, how did you get into this type of business?

SPEAKER_02:

So I am the wife and partner of Hector Tovar. Hector is the general contractor for One Stop. Hector has been in the industry for about 15 years. He got his actually his foot, his steps into the door with uh with construction when he started working with a general contracting uh general contractor, I'm sorry. And he worked with him for many years. And I think that's where his passion started for the industry. Um, and as as the time went by and the more time he spent in that type of industry, he definitely set up a goal that he's like, I want to own my own business one one day in this in this type of field. So he worked really hard and he was able to accomplish that. And he for he opened his first uh construction company in um in 2020, towards the end of 2020. And I think that's when um COVID COVID had started, or we're we were mid-COVID, which was a really tough time for us because he also got COVID and was out sick for about a month. But that's how um that's how he started with uh with general contracting and home remodels. And unfortunately, we had some life challenges and we had to close down our first construction company business, and then Hector had to start all over again and work himself, work himself all the way from the bottom up, and that's how OSC interior remodels came about. Our second opportunity.

SPEAKER_01:

Wonderful. Well, um, what do you think are maybe some myths or misconceptions in your industry?

SPEAKER_02:

Uh, the most common ones that we hear is about contractors not getting back to clients, contractors walking away from the job or or not responding. And I think that's a situation that does happen, but it doesn't represent the entire industry. There are many general contractors out there, including us, that are dedicated and responsive and committed in delivering high-quality uh work from start to finish. And I know a I think a bad experience travels faster than a good experience. So, but the truth is there are reputable and trustworthy client-focused uh professionals out there, and we're definitely one of them.

SPEAKER_01:

Wonderful. Well, now we know marketing is really the heart of every business. So, how are you finding your customers?

SPEAKER_02:

A lot is word of mouth, a lot of them. We've had, we we're very dedicated to each project that we jump on or jump into. Um, we try to take one or two projects at a time because we want to make sure our focus is completely on the project. And Hector likes to be there during each process or each the beginning and the end of the project through everything. Um, he's more of a perfectionist, so he wants to make sure everything is done right. He is a people person, so he wants not only he wants the job to turn out right for himself, but also for his for his clients. He's trying to build that that trust, that that great relationship. That once this work is done, you can call him back for additional work or for any questions, or we're here to help you.

SPEAKER_01:

Wonderful. Now, I have you ever thought of having your own podcast?

SPEAKER_02:

No, but it would be fun.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, it is a lot of fun and very informational too. So, okay, now outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

SPEAKER_02:

Well, we have two boys. Uh they're they're teenagers. Um, one of our uh boys is um he's in in travel baseball, so we're really busy with him because he does the competitive baseball, so we're always traveling from city to city trying to get him more exposure, which we enjoy. We love all that activity and the intensive and stress that the baseball brings to our family. And then my other son who is um 17, he enjoys motorcycles. So, like, there's always a bike in the garage that needs help, like needs work, or a friend comes over and he needs help. And then once the friend comes over, Hector tends to jump in and it's a family project. So we try to do we try to spend as much time as we can with our boys, and I think that's the best time that we have with them, and we're trying to stay active and doing life together, which is our fun time.

SPEAKER_01:

Wonderful. Well, Jennifer, please tell our listeners one thing they should remember about one-stop premium interior remodels.

SPEAKER_02:

We really put our heart into each of the projects that we get. We do take our time, we listen, and we're we're people just like you. We have our homes, we understand everyone has situations that come up that don't expect. So we're here to work together. And because we're a family-owned business, we're much more dedicated in everything that we do. So as long as we can work together, we can build that trust. I'm here for you, you're here for me, and your project is going to turn out better than you expected.
