Good Neighbor Podcast: Orange County

How A Care Manager And Caregiver Team Up To Protect Aging Loved Ones

Rachel Fyffe & Jackie Jou Kim

The hardest part of senior care often isn’t the daily tasks—it’s knowing what to do, when to do it, and who to trust. We sit down with Jackie Jou Kim from Arosa Senior Services OC to unpack a smarter approach: integrating professional care management with personalized home care so families get a plan, not just a worker on a schedule.

Jackie walks us through the first step—a free, in-home assessment that maps needs, risks, and preferences—and explains how a care manager coordinates the entire journey. From short-term help after a hospital stay to long-term support for Parkinson’s and dementia, we explore how medication reminders, safe mobility, meal prep, and companionship fit into a bigger strategy that adapts as conditions change. You’ll hear why “I’m not ready yet” is a common myth, how early planning prevents crisis decisions, and what reliable caregiver oversight looks like when handled by a dedicated manager.

We also dig into the power of local partnerships and referrals, from chambers of commerce to elder law attorneys and placement agencies, ensuring families find trusted resources without guesswork. Jackie shares practical tips for selecting the right support, aligning services with doctor guidance, and keeping seniors connected to community so independence lasts longer.

If you’re in Orange County, there’s a special perk: mention Good Neighbor Podcast to receive a free assessment plus four hours of home care (valued at $160), a stress-free way to test the fit and see measurable benefits at home.  Give us a call at 949-794-9470 to book your free assessment today.

SPEAKER_00:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Rachel Fife.

SPEAKER_02:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Now, if you are looking for a premier provider of integrated care management and home care services for seniors, well, this resource is closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, Jackie Joe Kim with Arosa Senior Services OC. Jackie, how is it going? Things are going so well. Thank you, Rachel, for having me on your podcast. Well, we are really, really excited to learn about your business. So tell us about Arosa Senior Services.

SPEAKER_01:

Of course. So Arosa, we're a premier provider of care management services and home care. All throughout we cover all of Orange County. We have offices throughout the country. At Arosa, we do this integrated model where our care management is combined with our home care, which means that every time we send caregivers out to seniors' homes, there's a care manager overseeing that work. So that assures that if there is any sort of situation with a caregiver that's not working out, our care manager is there to help sort out the problems or to potentially find you a new caregiver if need be. And all of that starts with a free assessment, which is always provided to any of our customers who call to call our phone line. And we go in to do the free the free assessments to see just what your mom and dad or yourself might need in a caregiver. So that could be anything from post-hospitalization when you need somebody to help prepare meals for you, to make sure that you stay on track for your medications, or for somebody for more long-term care. Like a lot of our clients have Parkinson's or have dementia, or you know, may just be a little bit frailer as they're getting older and just need somebody to help take them out on errands or driving. It could run a whole gamut of what you might need as you get older. But whatever that issue might be, um, if you call a ROSA and go over what your needs are, we are able to help you find that care for that peace of mind for yourself or your family members. Oh, wonderful. Well, how did you get into this business, Jackie? I um have been at a ROSA for about two and a half years, but prior to that, you know, I was working in events. So, Rachel, like when you told me that this was going to be on StreamYard, I was very, very familiar with this platform because I've worked with a lot of different, you know, podcasts or interviews and um in this medium.

SPEAKER_02:

Wonderful. So now what do you think are some myths or misconceptions in your industry?

SPEAKER_01:

I think what I hear a few different things from the client's perspective, they always tell me that they're not ready for the care. And oh, you know, I'm you know quite independent on my own. I don't need a caregiver at home. And what we try to stress to them that it is not just right now, it's also a bit of future planning. And I that's where the care management piece will come in. So maybe you don't need a caregiver there to help you, but the care manager, uh, it's a service on top of the home care. It's it is a different service. So I don't want to confuse people when you hear about the care management. Um the home care is one thing, but for the care manager, we have a care manager go into your home, and that care manager, if you were to choose this service, can help you with pre-planning, um, to find resources as you're getting older, or to you know, make sure that you are exercising, you're going to um socialize social events to find other seniors, to uh make sure that you're going to all your doctor appointments. So that care management piece is really important, and I think that anyone can be using that from you know, if you if you're not ready for a caregiver to uh when you are deep it need deeply into your care and you need someone to oversee all of your uh you know, all of your activities.

SPEAKER_02:

Wonderful. Now we know marketing is really the heart of every business. So how are you finding your patients and and the people you take care of?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, well, places like the Good Neighbors Podcast helps out a lot. So I just want to say that thank you, Rachel, so much for um talking to me today. But I also want to say to your viewers that if you're interested in learning more about our ROSA, please give us a call. The number is 949-794-9470. And if you mention a good neighbors podcast, we can offer you the free assessment, of course, but also a free four hours of home care um and to see if uh that's the right fit for you in in your life right now.

SPEAKER_02:

So have you go ahead. Now, now do you want to just say something else?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, and like you're right, the marketing piece is difficult in our industry. But um what I do is I go to places like the Irvine Chamber and I talk to other members about what kind of work I do, what kind of work they do, and the referral um referral process is one of the strongest ways that we do find care uh clients. So I would refer to um, you know, insurance companies, um, elder law attorneys, or um, you know, placement agents. The senior world has so many different people who are eager and very experienced in this work. And being able to be a good referral partner is one of the best ways to find clients that need our care.

SPEAKER_02:

Wonderful. Now, have you ever thought about doing your own podcast by any chance?

SPEAKER_01:

Not yet. Um, it's one more piece of the puzzle that haven't been able to fit into my schedule, but I'm happy to do whatever podcasts that come across and come across.

SPEAKER_02:

I love it. I love it. Now, outside of work, Jackie, what what do you like to do for fun?

SPEAKER_01:

Well, um, so my fun was just be my family. I have three boys of my own, so family is really important to me. So when I'm not at work doing my marketing, um taking care of my clients, uh I'm taking my boys out to baseball practice or school events. Um my kids uh go to school at uh Merriam Burgesson Elementary, which is in Laguna Nigel. It's a man in immersion program, so that's a little plug for that too. We're really proud that we have this program available to us and it's an incredible place to send your kids. Uh, they are able to learn Mandarin, uh, Chinese and English side by side as they are uh are they as they are in an elementary school, and we've really loved um being there for you know the past the past few years.

SPEAKER_02:

Wonderful. Well, Jackie, please tell our listeners one thing they should remember about Erosa Senior Services OC.

SPEAKER_01:

SPEAKER_02:

Wonderful. Well, how can our listeners learn more about Arosa Senior Services OC?
