The wind of the Holy Spirit

Maybe you're walking through a season of testing, restoration, comfort, or waiting. The good news is this: God is still the Lord of every wind in our lives. The Holy Spirit uses every season to shape us, guide us, and glorify Christ. Our calling is to surrender to the Holy Spirit.

In this message we learned:

✨ The wind represents the presence of God.
✨ God is the Lord of every wind in our lives.
✨ Even difficult seasons can bring provision and transformation.
✨ The Holy Spirit still brings life to what seems hopeless.
✨ We must position ourselves to receive the move of the Holy Spirit.
✨ Pressure can produce God's greatest move.
✨ God still makes a way where there seems to be no way.
✨ The wind of Pentecost is still blowing today.

👉 Don't try to control the wind. Raise your sails, open your heart, and allow the Holy Spirit to blow over your life once again.

Because when God's wind begins to blow, dry bones come to life, miracles happen, provision arrives, and Christ is glorified.

And uh we started this two-week series about the Holy Spirit, and uh we'll be talking about today but uh a topic that I titled the wind of the Holy Spirit. Say with me, the wind of the Holy Spirit, and uh I wanna speak out of John chapter three verse eight, and uh John chapter three verse eight says the wind blows wherever it pleases, you hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the spirit. So in the throughout the Bible, we see that uh the the theme of the Holy Spirit is tied together with the wind, and is it represented in different passages of the Bible. We're gonna look at some of them today, and the wind, as you know, is invisible, right? Who can see the wind? No one, right? We feel the effect, we see the effect, but we cannot see it. So it's the same with the Holy Spirit. Uh sometimes we feel we see its effects, but we don't necessarily see the Holy Spirit today. So from Genesis to Revelation, the Holy Spirit is portrayed as the wind. And in other uh parts of the Bible it says the breath or the life-giving spirit of God. We see that when God created uh Adam and Eve, he uh put on them the breath of life, which uh could be the breath of the Holy Spirit as well. So we see in the Bible, as we read in John 3:8, it says that the wind blows wherever it pleases. I don't know if some of you that are from uh Latin America, you know this. Because when I'm I'm from Colombia, when you're in Colombia, you check the weather app, and it tells you the exact opposite, right? I remember like growing up as a kid, and we have like a weather guy on the news, he was very famous, but every time he will say something like, Oh, tomorrow is gonna rain, it will be the exact opposite, and the weather, it was just as an entertainment piece in the news. Now you get here to America and you find out that the weather app is actually accurate and it really works. So it says it's gonna rain, and then it says it will rain for about 10 minutes, and exactly as soon as those 10 minutes go by, the rain stops. So uh this just to tell you that the wind, it says the wind blows wherever it pleases. So sometimes uh for man, for humankind, we're unable to control the weather, the wind. It's it's just a natural phenomenon. In the same way, you and I, we cannot control the Holy Spirit, but we can allow him to move through us, to do amazing things through us when we're positioned to do so. So, in another passage in Genesis chapter 1, verse 2, it says, Now the earth was formless and empty, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. In another version, it says it was moving, so it was kind of like the wind was moving uh on top of the earth, over the earth, and we see that back then everything was it had no form, the earth was not formed, but the the spirit started moving, and as God was speaking, everything started started to take shape. In Acts, we see Acts chapter 2, verse 1 and 2, it says, When the day of Pentecost came, suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. So the Holy Spirit doesn't move exactly in the same way, but we know one thing, he's constantly moving. The Holy Spirit is moving, and we believe that there is power in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is power, amen. Amen. So we cannot say, oh, Holy Spirit, move in this way, but we can just hope that He moves and we're positioned for that move of the Holy Spirit. In the Bible, it actually talks about four different kinds of wind. And now that we have science, the science agreed with was already on the Bible, written thousands of years ago, and we see mainly that there are four different winds. We see Psalm 148. So we see that nothing moves out of the power of God. God is in control of the earth. So we see the first one, and the first one is the east wind. The east wind. If you're taking notes, write this down. The east wind. And if we look at one passage, Exodus 10, 13, we see what the east wind represents. It says, so Moses stretched out his staff over Egypt, and the Lord made an east wind blow across the land, and all that day and all that night. We see an east wind that came right before the plagues came over Egypt. So we can see that this east wind represents discipline, correction, it represents testing or judgment as well. So sometimes we experience that wind, the wind of the Holy Spirit that comes to bring correction, discipline over our life. And we we can all go through seasons like that. For example, Jonah, and many of you know the story, Jonah received an order from God, go preach in this city. But he didn't want to go, so he went away and he was arguing with with God, and he got really frustrated. And when he was really frustrated, in Jonah 4.8, it says, God provided a scorching east wind. And the wind, what it did, it was to dry up a plant where he was taking shade, and he was so frustrated, and God told him, Why do you get mad? If I gave you the plant, I took it away. If I gave you a shade and I took it away, you shouldn't be mad about it, you shouldn't get angry at God, you should be grateful, and God was teaching him a lesson to trust him and depend on him. So that's the first kind of wind. It's a wind that God allows to redirect our lives with uh discipline or correction. The second type of wind is the south wind, wind from the south. And the the wind of the south, uh, in Luke 12, 55, it says, and where the south wind blows, you say it's going to be hot, and it is. So it's like a warm breeze from the south. And those are we can represent like times of comfort, times of refreshing, times of warmth when everything is going well. When you see, oh, thank you, Jesus. Maybe that promotion came and you were right in the right spot to get it, and you say, Thank you, Jesus, because you're good. Thank you, Holy Spirit, because I was positioned there and that wind blew over me. And number three is the east, but I'm sorry, the west wind, the west wind. And the west wind, it says on Exodus 10, 19, it says, and the Lord charged the wind to a very strong west wind, which cut up the locusts. So the same God that allowed the wind, the east wind to come and bring the plagues was the same God who brought the west wind to feed the people of Israel. It says that God allowed that west wind wind to come to feed the people of Israel, and they had more than enough. So we see that God is in control. So the uh west wind represents deliverance, change, restoration. And we have lastly the north wind, which represents uh from the north, we could think like the cold wind that comes, and could represent those times where we're trying to hear from God and we we don't hear nothing, or maybe you're going through a season where it's difficult for you to connect with the Holy Spirit. So we see that God uses every wind for our good. God uses everything for our good. We see it on Psalm 78, verse 26 to 29. It says, He let loose the east wind from the heavens, and by his power made the south wind blow. He raided, he rained down meat on them like dust, they ate until they were gorged. So God combined two different winds to work for the good of the people of Israel. So you can say, in every season of your life, God is good. Can you say that with me? Say God is good. We see it on Romans 8 28. It says, and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him. In every way, in every season, in every different situation, God works for your good. Do you believe it? Especially if you're going through a hard time, you could you could believe and you could trust that God will do something. And I'm going into the main part of the message. And the the I want to present to you guys a picture of the wind that brings life, because the Holy Spirit brings life into every situation. I could say it from my own uh experience when we met the Lord, when the Holy Spirit came into our life, it brought so much life. We were spiritually dead, relationally, our relations uh in our family were completely destroyed, we were going through a such a difficult time, but then the Holy Spirit came. And I remember we had like a little group that met in our house every every Wednesday, and I remember these two brothers that came with a guitar. So every Wednesday, these two brothers that were part of the church, they came into our house and they will sing, just worship the Holy Spirit, just worship Jesus. And for about 30 to 45 minutes with their guitar, they were just worshiping. I remember as a kid just sitting there, my mom will pray. We didn't in the beginning, we didn't really know the songs, but little by little being there, exposed to the presence of the Holy Spirit, that brought so much change. And I remember when when those two brothers, they were actually brothers, not only brothers in in the faith, but they were actually brothers. When they left, every time they left, I remember feeling different, feeling so much peace. Because when the Spirit of the Lord comes to a place, there is peace, there is freedom, there is happiness, there is joy, because that's the whole that's what the Holy Spirit does. Amen. So we see in Ezekiel chapter 37, we see a picture. Uh, and and we could probably equate that to some of our situations in life where where the prophet saw a vision, and the vision was a vision of a valley filled with dry bones. Everything was dead, it was a desert, there were just bones everywhere, and then he receives a command from God. It says in verse 9, it says, Come, breath from the four winds and breathe into this slain or into these bones that they may live. Breathe and breath entered them, they came to life and stood up on their feet a vast army. So imagine it was a valley of dry bones. But God told the prophet, prophesy over the dry bones, and the prophecy uh allow God to come from the four different corners of the earth and bring that breath of life, and that breath of life changed the whole picture of that situation. So you can prophesy to the wind, you can prophesy to the wind, you can prophesy over a situation and allow the Holy Spirit to change it and transform it into a blessing. Maybe today it's a marriage, a family, your personal calling, your dreams, maybe your own heart, maybe your emotions. Right now you feel that your future is dead. Let me tell you, you can prophesy, and the Holy Spirit will come from the four different corners of the earth, and those winds of the Holy Spirit will bring change. Do you believe it? Do you believe it? Amen. So, what do we need to do? So, as I was preparing this message, uh, I was praying for this, and I saw a picture, and in my mind, I saw a little boat. So, this is a little boat right here. Let me just do this really quick. I got it. So, this little boat represents your life, and so many people go through life like this, and their only power to move, to go forward, to get to a destination is this, and you're really trying to advance in life, you're really trying to get to where you think you should be, or where your dreams are telling you to go. You have so many goals in life, you say, Oh, I want this, I want that, or I want my marriage to get better, my family to be better. I want my life to get better, but your only tool to advance is in your hands. So you're really trying for many years. My my family was like that. We were trying on our own. In in many parts of my life, I've been like this, where I go, I do something, and I'm really trying on my own with my own strength. So I have this little thing in my hand, and I work as hard as I can, and I feel like I'm in the same place. Have you ever been in a boat and you're trying to just go forward and then you're you're stuck in the same place? I I remember I told you guys about going to a lazy river, and when you go to the natural lazy river, the current is not strong, it's really subtle. I uh as far as you see it, as far as you feel it. But I remember my family, we were like 10 people, 11 people, and uh my brother-in-law said, Okay, let's stop here. So, everyone get down in the next stop. And I said, Okay, so I was trying to help my mom, I was trying to help my kids get over to the shore so they could get off the little uh floaty, and by accident, since I was trying to help them, I stayed, and the current just kept me on the river. I remember swimming with my own little hands, and guess what? Same spot. I said, Well, you know, difficult times, desperate measures. I just jumped over the jumped off the the floaty and I started swimming with all my strength, and no movement. I was on the same spot, and I could see them, and as I did it as hard as I could until I was like, I give up, and I just went with the with the flow of the river with the current, and I said I just shouted at them, I'll see you at the next stop. They had to wait for me for I don't know, an hour, 40 minutes, and I had the keys to the car, and I had all the money, so uh it was a fun experience, but so many times in life we're trying on our own. But we see in the in the throughout the verses that I mentioned that the Holy Spirit is like that wind. So, what should we do? What do we what do we do if we have a wind to help us move forward to help us get to where not only where we want to get but where God wants us to be, we need to use this because this the sails work when there is wind. That's why I didn't want to do it because I didn't it's it's hard to put them back, but I think I could do it. Hold on a minute. Oh, it looks so much nicer like this. Looks nice, right? It's a cool little boat. So when the sails are up, you can allow the Holy Spirit to take you, and now it's not gonna be on your own strength, but you're gonna be guided by the wind of the Holy Spirit. You're gonna be guided. So if we see this, how how can we translate that to our life? How can we translate these sails over our life? We could we could see that we could see it really quick on Acts 2 verse 1. Jesus said to the disciples, my my time will be over, and I I'm gonna go up to heaven to my father, but don't worry, I'm gonna send you someone who will be with you, and he will he will he will help you fulfill your calling, your purpose, he will remind you of everything, he will be with you every single day of your life. So the disciples heard those news and they said, Amen. But as soon as Jesus passed, they were doubtful, they didn't know where to go, until one of them said, Why don't we put ourselves up and we get ready for the Holy Spirit? And this is What it says in Acts 2:1. It says they were all together in one place. So they gathered in one place, and they it says in the Bible that they gathered and they started praying. And as soon as they started praying, it says in in Acts 2 that a wind came, and it was the wind of the Holy Spirit, a mighty wind that started coming over that little place where they were gathered, and the Holy Spirit came upon their lives. So, how we do how we that's how do we position ourselves for the Holy Spirit? It's through prayer. So I want to encourage you. We're a couple of weeks ago, a couple of weeks away from our 21 days of prayer. And I want to invite you to be part of that because when you join, that's that's where you position yourself to say, Holy Spirit, I trust you. It's not gonna be on my own strength, it's gonna be on your spirit, and you're gonna take me, you're gonna help me. So during those 21 days of prayer, make sure you wake up and pray. How do you position yourself for the Holy Spirit? Wake up and worship Jesus. Wake up and worship Him. If you're going through a difficult time, how do you position yourself? Just praise the Lord, just play some worship and just say, Lord, I know your Holy Spirit is in my life, and He can do a miracle. As I've been sharing for this past couple months, I I was struggling with something, and my only answer to the the illness, the sickness, the pain that I was feeling, it was just worship. Because I went to the doctor, the doctor said, Well, there's nothing I see, you're you're okay. Well, some days were uh bad reported, some days were like there's nothing we can do, you're perfectly fine, but I still felt the pain. So, what do you do when he's out of your control? What do you do when there is nothing you can do? There's one thing you can do, and it's to allow the Holy Spirit to bring that breath of life. So worship Jesus, wake up and worship him. Go to sleep and worship the Lord. When you're driving your car, make sure that you're praying and you're worshiping Jesus. When you're going through a difficult time, just say, I know God will work this for my good because I love him and I know the wind of the Holy Spirit is helping me get forward to fulfill his purpose, his plan in my life. He will finish it with you. Amen. Amen. Praise Jesus. I want to invite you to stand. And I want you to picture yourself like this. How how can we represent this in our own life? We can represent this in our own life when we just raise our hands and say, Holy Spirit, I trust you. Maybe you've done it, maybe you've never done it before. I want to encourage you today, in an attitude of surrender, just raise your hand, raise your hands towards Jesus, raise your hands and say, Lord, it is not in my control, but it is in your power, in your spirit, and Lord, I surrender completely to you. Lord, I surrender my life to you. I need you, Holy Spirit, in your own words. Start worshiping Jesus and say, Holy Spirit, come upon my life, come over me, come over my family, come over my finances, come fill me with your spirit. Just as the disciples were praying in the upper room, in that same way, you're gonna start praying and saying, Holy Spirit, I need you, I need you to fill me with your spirit because apart from you, I'm nothing. I need your spirit, I need your anointing, I need your power, I need your power. Just worship Jesus, just worship Jesus and say, Lord, I worship you, I worship you, I worship you, Holy Spirit, I desire your spirit, I desire your spirit upon my life, I desire your presence. Come on, this is a time where you can open your mouth and you can start asking the Holy Spirit to come upon your life. Everyone, just raise your hands and pray. Stay holy.
