SPEAKER_01

Good morning and welcome. I'm Father Tom Roy, the Vicar of the Daily Office Network. I'm an ordained priest in the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Minnesota. The Daily Office Network is a community of Christians who gather together on a daily basis to pray morning prayer Monday through Friday at 7 and 9 a.m. Eastern time. We come from several different faith traditions in several different countries. We use the Episcopal Church's Book of Common Prayer as our guide. We mix an artwork, a news story. We have a video at the end. All are welcome here where we do our best to exercise tolerance and decency with one another. Now let's settle in and begin morning prayer. Today is the 12th of May, 2026. It is Tuesday in the sixth week of Easter. It is also Rogation Day. Daily Office Network is podcasting. You can find us on Apple or Spotify by searching the keywords Daily Office Network. I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. In a historic breakthrough, three women were allowed to sit for the Israeli rabbinic competency exam this week, or the week of April the 27th, 2026. The tests, which drill on a variety of topics in Halakha, traditional Jewish law, were previously only available to men seeking rabbinic ordination. But Israel's Supreme Court ruled last year that the rabbinic must open up exams to women. The exam didn't go off without complications. The women were brought to a separate venue far from the male test takers, and they waited nearly five hours on Monday the 27th until an emergency court order forced the rabbinate to administer the exam. Passing the test will not grant the women the title of rabbi. Christ has entered not into a sanctuary made with hands, a copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Addie, would you lead us in the inventory in this altar this morning?

SPEAKER_02

Lord, open our lips.

SPEAKER_01

And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

SPEAKER_02

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen. Therefore, let us keep the peace. Not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. Christ being raised from the dead will never die again. Death no longer has dominion over him. The death that he died, he died to sin. Once for all, but the life he lives, he lives to God. So also consider yourself dead to sin and alive to God and Jesus Christ our Lord. Hallelujah. Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruit of those who have fallen asleep. But since by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. So far as in Adam all die. So also in Christ shall all be made alive. Hallelujah.

SPEAKER_01

Thank you, Addie. Our psalm appointed for this morning is a portion of Psalm number 78, verses 1 through 39. I'm going to ask Martha and Jill to lead our psalm. Martha, would you start?

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, my teaching, oh my people. Incline your ears to the voice of my mouth.

SPEAKER_10

I will open my mouth in a parable. I will declare the mysteries of ancient times.

SPEAKER_11

That which we have heard and known and what our ancestors have told us, we will not hide from their children.

SPEAKER_10

We will recount to generations to come the praiseworthy deeds and the power of the Lord and the wonderful works God has done. That the generations to come might know and the children yet unborn, that they in their turn might tell it to their children.

SPEAKER_11

So that they might put their trust in God and not forget the tease of God, but keep God's commandments.

SPEAKER_10

And not be like their ancestors, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast and whose spirit was not faithful to God.

SPEAKER_11

The people of Ephraim are with the poor turned by the energy of battle.

SPEAKER_10

They did not keep the covenant of God and refused to walk in God's law.

SPEAKER_11

They forgot what God has had done and the wonders shown to them.

SPEAKER_10

God worked marvels in the sight of their ancestors, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zod.

SPEAKER_11

Split open the sea and let them pass through, making the water stand up like walls.

SPEAKER_10

God led them with a cloud by day and all night through with a glow of fire.

SPEAKER_11

Split the hard rocks in the wilderness and give them drink as from the great deep.

SPEAKER_10

God brought streams out of the cliff, and the waters gushed out like rivers.

SPEAKER_11

But he went on sinning against the Lord, rebelling in the desert against the most high.

SPEAKER_10

They tested God in their hearts, demanding food for their craving.

SPEAKER_11

They reel against God and said, Can God set a table in the wilderness?

SPEAKER_10

True. God struck the rock, the waters gushed out, and the gullies overflowed. But is God able to give bread or to provide meat for his people?

SPEAKER_11

Hearing this the Lord was full of wrath. Lord's anger mounted against Israel.

SPEAKER_10

For they had no faith in God, nor did they put their trust in the Lord's saving power.

SPEAKER_11

So God commanded the clouds above and opened the doors of heaven.

SPEAKER_10

God rained down manna upon them to eat and gave them grain from heaven.

SPEAKER_11

So mortars ate the bread of angels. God provided for them food enough.

SPEAKER_10

God caused the east wind to blow in the heavens and mightily let out the south wind.

SPEAKER_11

God rained and flesh upon them like dust and winged boys like the sand of the sea.

SPEAKER_10

God let it fall in the midst of their camp and round about their dwellings.

SPEAKER_11

So they ate and were well filled. For the Lord gave them what they craved.

SPEAKER_10

But they did not stop their craving, though the food was still in their mouths.

SPEAKER_11

So God's anger mantra against them.

SPEAKER_10

In spite of all this, they went on sinning and had no faith in God's wonderful works.

SPEAKER_11

So God brought the deeds to an end like a breath. And they're in sudden terror.

SPEAKER_10

Whenever God slew them, they would repent. And they would diligently search for God.

SPEAKER_11

They would remember that God was their rock. And the most high God their Redeemer.

SPEAKER_10

But they flattered God with their mouths and lied to God with their tongues.

SPEAKER_11

Their heart was not steadfast towards God. And they were not faithful to the covenant.

SPEAKER_10

But being so merciful, God forgave their sins and did not destroy them. Many times God held back anger and did not permit divine wrath to be roused.

SPEAKER_11

For the Lord, remember that you were both flesh, a breath that goes forth and does not return.

SPEAKER_10

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen.

SPEAKER_01

Amen. Thank you, Jill and Martha. That was a great reading. Photograph of a retail shop that says New Age, jewelry, crystals, books, music, free vortex map, psychic readings. You can also get a photo of your aura. You can buy a photo of your aura at this crystal shop, or you can use Photoshop, which would probably be a lot cheaper. What a vortex map might be, yeah, we can't say. Patricia, would you lead this?

SPEAKER_04

You shall make for yourself no idols and erect no carved images or pillars, and you shall not place figured stones in your land to worship at them, for I am the Lord your God. You shall keep my Sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary. I am the Lord. If you follow my statutes and keep my commandments and observe them faithfully, I will give you rains in their season, and the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. Your threshing shall overtake the vintage, and the vintage shall overtake the sowing. You shall eat your bread to the full and live securely in your land, and I will grant peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and no one shall make you afraid. I will remove dangerous animals from the land, and no sword shall go through your land. You shall give chase to your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword. Five of you shall give chase to a hundred and a hundred of you. You shall give chase to ten thousand. Your enemies shall fall before you by the sword. I will look with favor upon you and make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will maintain my covenant with you. You shall eat old grain long stored, and you shall have to clear out the old to make way for the new. I will place my dwelling in your midst, and I shall not abhor you, and I will walk among you, and I and will be your God, and you shall be my people. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be slaves no more. I have broken the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect. But if you will not obey me and do not observe all these commandments, if you spurn my statutes and abhor my ordinances, so that you will not observe all my commandments, will you and you break my covenant, I in turn will do this to you. I will bring terror on your consumption and fever that waste the eyes and cause life to pine away. You shall sow your seed in vain, and your enemies shall eat it. I will set my face against you, and you shall be struck down by your enemies. Your foes shall rule over you, and you shall flee, though no one pursues you. Adding, if in spite of this you will not obey me, I will continue to punish you sevenfold for your sins. I will break your proud glory, and will make your sky like iron and your earth like copper. Your strength shall be spent to no purpose, and your your land shall not yield its produce, and the trees of the land shall not yield their fruit. The word of the Lord.

SPEAKER_01

Thanks be to God. Thank you, Patricia. Our first canticle is a song of pilgrimage. Mother Angel, would you lead this?

SPEAKER_09

Before an adventure for my woman's memory. In the four cords of the temple, I must come. And I will seek her to the end. From the first blossom to a leaf root. She has been the daylight of my heart. My food is kept from me to the troop half. Diligently from my youth and I pursued him. I inclined my little and received him. I found myself much wisdom and became a tempting. To the one who gives me wisdom, will I give glory? For I have resolved to live according to the way. From the beginning I gained courage from home, then for I will not be forsaken. In my inmost being I have been stood to seeker, therefore have I gained a good possession. As my reward, the Almighty has given me the gift of language, and with it I will offer praise to God.

SPEAKER_01

Thank you, Mother Angel. Photograph from Memphis and Abbey in South Carolina. Paul, would you lead this?

SPEAKER_08

First of all, then I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God. There is also one mediator between God and humankind, Christ Jesus, himself human, who gave himself a ransom for all. This was attested at the right time. The word of the Lord.

SPEAKER_01

Thanks be to God. Thank you, Paul. Our second, excuse me, our second canticle is a song of faith. Mother Unjour.

SPEAKER_09

Blessed be the dominant father of our Lord, Jesus Christ. By divine mercy, we have a new birth into a living hope. Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the end. We have an inheritance that is imperishable in heaven. The ransom that was paid to free us.

SPEAKER_01

Deacon Elizabeth, would you lead this?

SPEAKER_12

Sure. Jesus said, Here then, the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in the heart. This is what was sown on the path. As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy. Yet such a person has no root but endures only for a while. And when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, that person immediately falls away. As for what was sown among thones, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the law of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing. But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty. The word of the Lord.

SPEAKER_01

Thanks be to God. Thank you, Deacon. And now the Apostles' Creed. Michael Brown, would you lead us in the creed?

SPEAKER_07

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again, he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. And he will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness. Of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

SPEAKER_01

Amen. Thank you, Michael. And now the prayers begin with our Lord's Prayer. Jacqueline, would you lead us in the Lord's Prayer and then we'll read the suffrages?

SPEAKER_03

The Lord be with you and also with you. Let us pray. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and forever.

SPEAKER_01

Amen. Help us, O God, our Saviour.

SPEAKER_03

Deliver us and forgive us our sins.

SPEAKER_01

Look upon your congregation.

SPEAKER_03

Give to your people the blessing of peace.

SPEAKER_01

Declare your glory among the nations.

SPEAKER_03

And your wonders among all peoples.

SPEAKER_01

Do not let the oppressed be shamed and turned away.

SPEAKER_03

Never forget the lives of your poor.

SPEAKER_01

Continue your loving kindness to those who know you.

SPEAKER_03

And your favor to those who are true of heart.

SPEAKER_01

Satisfy us by your loving kindness in the morning.

SPEAKER_03

So shall we rejoice and be glad all the days of our life?

SPEAKER_01

Thank you, Jacqueline. And now we have several prayers. The collect of the day for the for commerce and industry for Rogation Day, a collect for the nation, I guess the two. Deacon Diana, would you lead these two prayers?

SPEAKER_06

Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ is in his earthly life, shared our toil and hallowed our labor. Be present with your people where they work. Make those who carry on the industries and commerce of this land responsive to your will, and give to us all a pride in what we do and a just return for our labor. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen. Lord God Almighty, you have made all the peoples of the earth for your glory, to serve you in freedom and in peace. Give to the people of our country a zeal for justice and the strength of forbearance, that we may use our liberty in accordance with your gracious will. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

unknown

Amen.

SPEAKER_01

Amen. Thank you, Deacon. And now it's time for our weekly report on military news, and it's called They Have Names. It was started in 2007 by our late honorary deacon, Clint Gillilan, a retired Navy medic. They have names, our service members at home and abroad, and they're in danger from the minute that they take the oath. If there's casualties, we speak their names, and we tell of their heroism. We pray for all of them and we pray to God for peace in every nation. And here's where things stand this week. We have no casualties in war to report or names to report, thanks be to God, but we do have a story today. Fort Bragg Therapy Dog, a Fort Bragg Therapy Dog named Sapper, who's pictured above with the sunglasses and the hat and the bandana, won the USO Canine Volunteer of the Year Award. Sapper is an eight-year-old Husky who greets almost 13,000 service members and families each month at the United States Organization Center on Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Sapper has been named the U.S.O's 2026 K9 Volunteer of the Year. An Alaskan Husky who belongs to Army veteran Mike Darcy Sapper, who won the national title on April the 24th, April the 21st, after a public vote among five finalists from USO centers around the world. It's worldwide, they said, so Germany, Japan, all those other places. Darcy said, if any dog deserved it, he did. It's nice to hear a good story about one of our canines who is excelling. We pray for those that we love on active duty. There are many of them, but we name specifically Father David, who is a chaplain serving overseas, Logan, Arnold, Dudley, Gina, Raleigh, Janelle, Amanda, and Rob, a married couple who are both serving. Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care in keeping all of the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace. Strengthen them in their trials and their temptations, give them courage to face the perils which beset them, and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. And a collect for peace. O God, the author of peace and the lover of concord, to know you as eternal life, to serve you as perfect freedom. Defend us your humble servants in all assaults of our enemies, that we, surely trusting in your defense, may not fear the power of any adversaries. Through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. And that's our report for they have names. Let's remember to pray for our service members at home and abroad and support those who keep the home fires burning. We'll continue with the prayer for the mission of the church. I'm going to ask Chad to lead this, and then I'll bless the Lord and bless us.

SPEAKER_05

Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross, that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace. So clothe us in your spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you for the honor of your name. Amen.

SPEAKER_00

Let us bless the Lord. Alleluia, hallelujah. Thanks be to God. Alleluia, alleluia.

SPEAKER_01

Now go in safety, for you cannot go where God is not, and go in love, for love alone endures, and go in peace, for that is God's gift to those whose hearts and minds are in his Son Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you now and remain with you always. Amen. And that is morning prayer on this Tuesday. Thank you for coming to pray today. Wherever you go, take that love of Jesus that lives inside of you, that Jesus that you carry in your heart. Show that Jesus to the world. Share that Jesus with the world. Hope to see you back with us tomorrow, safe and sound.
