Good morning and welcome. I'm Father Tom Roy, the Vicar of the Daily Office Network. The Daily Office Network is a community of Christians who gather together on a daily basis to pray morning prayer from the Episcopal Church's Book of Common Prayer. We mix an artwork, we have a news story, there's music at the end. All are welcome here where we do our best to exercise tolerance and decency with one another. Now let's settle in and begin morning prayer. Today is the 26th of May 2026. In the life of the church, our saint is Augustine, the first Archbishop of Canterbury who died in the year 605. The Daily Office Network is podcasting. You can find us on Apple or Spotify. We post an edited version there Monday through Friday. You can search by Keywords Daily Office Network, or you can click on one of the links when you're looking at this page and I'm not displaying it. Let's begin. First of all, then I urge the supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. A map showing the Colorado River. The Colorado River appears to be on the brink of disaster. The water is running dangerously low, and the seven Western states that rely on it can't agree on how to share what's left. A deal deadline came and went in February, leading the federal government to threaten its own solution, one that would keep the dams generating power, but likely bring painful cuts to water use. We're positive about one thing: no one will be satisfied. Its dams produce electricity for millions of people. The current crisis is rooted in a compact western states made in 1922. Officials overestimated how much water the river would provide. By the 21st century, as drought gripped the region, it became harder to meet the deal's water allocation obligations. The diminished water supply coupled with a growing population has led to years of shortfalls. I was glad when they said to me, Let us go to the house of the Lord. Lord, open our lips, and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
SPEAKER_09Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen. Hallelujah. Come, let us sing to the Lord. Let us shout for joy to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before God's presence with thanksgiving and raise to the Lord a shout with songs. For you are a great God. You are great, you are great above all gods. And your hands are the caverns of the earth, and the heights of the hills are yours also. The sea is yours, for you made it, and your hands have molded the dry land. Come, let us bow down and bend the knees and kneel before the Lord our Maker. For you are our God, and we are the people of your pasture and the sheep of your hand. Oh, that today we would hearken to your voice.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, Eddie. Our psalms appointed for today are number 26 and number 28. I'm going to ask Jacqueline and Jill to lead our psalms. Jacqueline, would you start?
SPEAKER_10Give judgment for me, O Lord, for I have lived with integrity. I have trusted in the Lord and have not faltered.
SPEAKER_02Test me, O Lord, and try me. Examine my heart and my mind.
SPEAKER_10For your love is before my eyes. I have walked faithfully with you.
SPEAKER_02I have not sat with the worthless, nor do I consort with the deceitful.
SPEAKER_10I have hated the company of evildoers. I will not sit down with the wicked.
SPEAKER_02I will wash my hands in innocence, O Lord, that I may go in procession round your altar.
SPEAKER_10Singing aloud a song of thanksgiving and recounting all your wonderful deeds.
SPEAKER_02Lord, I love the house in which you dwell, and the place where your glory abides.
SPEAKER_10Do not sweep me away with sinners, nor my life with those who thirst for blood.
SPEAKER_02Whose hands are full of evil plots, and their right hand full of bribes.
SPEAKER_10As for me, I will live with integrity. Redeem me, O Lord, and have pity on me.
SPEAKER_02My foot stands on level ground. In the full assembly I will bless the Lord.
SPEAKER_10O Lord, I call to you, my rock, do not be deaf to my cry, lest if you do not hear me, I become like those who go down to the pit.
SPEAKER_02Hear the voice of my prayer when I cry out to you, when I lift up my hand to your holy of holies.
SPEAKER_10Do not snatch me away with the wicked or with evildoers who speak peaceably with their neighbors while strifers in their hearts.
SPEAKER_02Repay them according to their deeds and according to the wickedness of their actions.
SPEAKER_10According to the work of their hands, repay them, and give them their just desserts.
SPEAKER_02O Lord, you have no understanding of your doings, nor of the work of your hands. Sorry, they have no understanding of your doings, nor the work of your hands. Therefore you will break them down and not build them up. Blessed is the Lord, for you have heard the voice of my prayer. The Lord is my strength and my shield. My heart trusts in you, and I have been helped.
SPEAKER_10Therefore, my heart dances for joy, and in my song will I praise you.
SPEAKER_02You, O Lord, are the strength of your people, a safe refuge for your anointed.
SPEAKER_10Save your people and bless your inheritance. Shepherd them and carry them forever.
SPEAKER_02Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen.
SPEAKER_01Amen. Thank you, Jill and Jacqueline. That was a great reading. We see someone reading from a book of Proverbs. Our reading comes from Proverbs chapter 15, verses 16 through 33. Patricia, would you lead this?
SPEAKER_07Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble with it. Better is a dinner of vegetables where love is than a fatted ox and hatred with it. Those who are hot tempered stir up strife, but those who are slow to anger calm contention. The way of the lazy is overgrown with thorns, but the path of the upright is a level highway. A wise child makes a glad father, but the foolish despise their mothers. Folly is a joy to one who has no sense, but a person of understanding walks straight ahead. Without counsel, plans go wrong, but with many advisers they succeed. To make an apt answer is a joy to anyone, and a word in season. How good it is. For the wise, the path of life leads upward in order to avoid the Sheol below. The Lord tears down the house of the proud but maintains the widow's boundaries. Evil plans are an abomination to the Lord, but gracious words are pure. Those who are greedy for unjust gain make trouble for their households. The mind of the righteous ponders how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil. The Lord is far from wicked, but he hears the prayers of the righteous. The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, and good news refreshes the body. The ear that heeds wholesome admonition will lodge among the wise. Those who ignore instruction despise themselves, but those who heed admonition gain understanding. The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom, and humility goes before honor. The word of the Lord.
SPEAKER_01Thanks be to God. Thank you, Patricia. Our first canticle is a song of praise. John R., would you lead this?
SPEAKER_04Glory to you, Lord God of our fathers. You are worthy of praise. Glory to you. Glory to you for the radiance of your holy name. We will praise you and highly exalt you forever. Glory to you in the splendor of your temple. On the throne of your majesty, glory to you. Glory to you, seated between the cherubim. We will praise you and highly exalt you forever. Glory to you, beholding the depths. In the high vault of heaven, glory to you. Glory to you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We will praise you and highly exalt you forever. Thank you, John.
SPEAKER_01We see a shipwreck here. Our reading comes from First Timothy chapter one, verse eighteen through chapter two, verse eight. Paul, would you lead this?
SPEAKER_08I am giving you these instructions, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies made earlier about you, so that by following them you may fight the good fight, having faith and a good conscience. By rejecting conscience, certain persons have suffered shipwreck in the faith. Among them are Hemenus and Alexander, whom I have turned over to Satan, so that they may learn not to blaspheme. First of all, then I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that they may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God, our Savior, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, there is also one mediator between God and humankind, Christ Jesus Himself human, who gave himself a ransom for all. This was attested at the right time. For this I was appointed a herald and an apostle. I am telling the truth, I am not lying, a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument. The word of the Lord.
SPEAKER_01Thanks be to God. Thank you, Paul. Michael, would you lead this one?
SPEAKER_05Splendor and honor and kingly power are yours by right, O Lord our God. For you created everything that is by your will they were created and have their being. For with your blood you have redeemed for God. From every family, language, people and nation the kingdom of priests to serve our God. And so to him who sits on the throne to Christ the Lamb, worship and praise, dominion and splendor forever, dedicated and forevermore. Thank you, Michael.
SPEAKER_01A brood of vipers. Deacon Diana, would you leave this one?
SPEAKER_03Jesus said, either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad. But the tree is known by its fruit, you brood of vipers. How can you speak good things when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart of the mouth speaks. The good person brings good things out of a good treasure. And the evil person brings evil things out of an evil treasure. I tell you, on the day of judgment, you will have to give an account of every careless word you utter. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned. Then some of the scribes and Pharisees, I'm sorry, I've been interrupted by Internet Security. There we go. Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you. But he answered them, An evil, adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so for three days and three nights, the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth. The people of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment, and this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the proclamation of Jonah, and see something greater than Jonah is here. The Queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with his generation and condemn it. Because she came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon and see something greater than Solomon is here. The word of the Lord.
SPEAKER_01Thanks be to God. Thank you, deacon. And now the Apostles creed, I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried, he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again, he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. And now the prayers begin with our Lord's Prayer. Robert, would you lead us in the Lord's Prayer and then we'll read the suffrages?
SPEAKER_00The Lord be with you.
SPEAKER_01And also with you.
SPEAKER_00Let us pray. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.
SPEAKER_01Help us, O God our Savior.
SPEAKER_00Deliver us and forgive us our sins.
SPEAKER_01Look upon your congregation.
SPEAKER_00Give to your people the blessing of peace.
SPEAKER_01Declare your glory among the nations.
SPEAKER_00And your wonders among all peoples.
SPEAKER_01Do not let the oppressed be shamed and turned away.
SPEAKER_00Never forget the lives of your poor.
SPEAKER_01Continue your loving kindness to those who know you.
SPEAKER_00And your favor to those who are true of heart.
SPEAKER_01Satisfy us by your loving kindness in the morning.
SPEAKER_00So shall we rejoice and be glad all the days of our life.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, Robert. Stained glass window of our saint of the day, Augustine, Saint Augustine, apostle to the English by the seashore, talking to a child. Christianity was already present in the British Isles when he came in the sixth century, but by this time the Pope sent a missionary bishop to get the church organized. Augustine and several monks landed in Kent and decided that Canterbury should be his headquarters. From there, the world's third largest communion of churches has grown. Saint Augustine, our saint of the day. And now two prayers, the colic to the day for Augustine, the first bishop of Canterbury. I'm sorry, the first Archbishop of Canterbury who died in 605, and a colic for the nation. Deacon Elizabeth, would you lead these two prayers?
SPEAKER_06Sure. Oh Lord, our God, who by your son Jesus Christ called your servant Augustine to preach the gospel to the English people, we pray that all whom you call and send may do your will, bide your time, and see your glory through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. Lord God Almighty, you have made all the peoples of the earth for your glory, to serve you in freedom and in peace. Give to the people of our country a zeal for justice and the strength of forbearance, that we may use our liberty in accordance with your gracious will through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
SPEAKER_01Amen. Thank you, Deacon. And now it's time for our report on military news called They Have Names. It was started in 2007 by our late honorary deacon Clint Gillon, a retired Navy medic. They have names. Our service members at home and abroad, they're in danger from the minute they take the oath. We tell of their heroism, and if there are casualties, we speak their names. We pray for all. All of them would pray to God for peace in every nation. And here's where things stand this week. We have no casualties in war to report, thanks be to God. But we do have a military story. And this was a close one. This happened last week. Boise, Idaho is where the AP reported the story came from. All four crew members ejected safely after two Navy jets collided and crashed a week ago Sunday during an air show at the Mountain Holm Air Force Base in western Idaho. The collision involved two U.S. Navy EA-18G Growlers from the Electronic Attack Squadron 129 in Wembley Island, Washington, said Commander Amelia Umayan, spokesperson for the Naval Air Force's U.S. Pacific Fleet. The aircraft were performing an aerial demonstration when the crash occurred. Umayam said in a statement the four crew members from both of the jets safely ejected, and the crash was under investigation. The crew members were in stable condition. Everyone is safe. And I think that's probably the most important thing. Nobody was hurt, said Kim Sykes, marketing director with Silver Wings of Idaho, which helped to plan the airshow. We hear about the air shows all around, and to have a couple of our four of our military members affected like this is something we don't usually think is going to happen. But it did. And thanks be to God, no one was killed. We pray for all of those service members who are on active duty, and we name a few here this morning. Father David, who is a chaplain who is serving, Logan, Arnold, Dudley, Gina, Raleigh, Janelle, and Amanda and Rob. Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care in keeping all of the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad, defend them day by day with your heavenly grace, strengthen them in their trials and their temptations, give them the courage to face the perils which beset them, and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. And they collect for peace. O God, the author of peace and the lover of concord, to know you as eternal life and to serve you as perfect freedom. Defend us your humble servants in all assaults of our enemies, that we, surely trusting in your defense, may not fear the power of any adversaries through the mind of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. And that's our report for they have names. Let's remember to pray for our service members at home and abroad and support those who keep the home fires burning. Jill, would you lead this and then I'll bless the Lord and bless us.
SPEAKER_02Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace. So clothe us in your spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you for the honor of your name. Amen.
SPEAKER_01Let us bless the Lord.
SPEAKER_02Thanks be to God, Alleluia, Alleluia.
SPEAKER_01Life is short, and we don't have much time to gladden the hearts of those who take this journey with us. So be swift to love and make haste to be kind. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you now and remain with you always. Amen. That is morning prayer on this Tuesday. Thank you for coming to pray today. Wherever you go, take that love of Jesus that lives inside of you, that Jesus you carry in your heart. Share that Jesus with the world. Show that Jesus to the world. Hope to see you back with us tomorrow safe and sound.
