Good morning and welcome. I'm Father Tom Roy, the Vicar of the Daily Office Network. I'm an ordained priest in the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Minnesota. The Daily Office Network is a community of Christians who gather together on a daily basis to pray morning prayer from the Episcopal Church's Book of Common Prayer. We mix in artwork. We have a news story. We come from several different faith traditions in several different countries. All are welcome here, where we do our best to exercise tolerance and decency with one another. Let's settle in and begin morning prayer. Today is the 6th of July, 2026. In the life of the church, our saint is Eva Lee Matthews, a monastic who died in the year 1928. Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness, where we do not know how to pray as we ought. But that very spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. Mary Ann's Episcopal Church in Northeast Maryland is working to reduce the stigma through its recovery ministry.

Mary Ann's hosts several recovery support groups meetings, including Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon, and Narcotics Anonymous, throughout the week. The heart of St. Mary Ann's ministry, though, is its monthly faith and recovery service. A special evening Eucharist is held the second Sunday of each month for people that are in recovery, their loved ones and parishioners who wish to attend. The challenge with churches who host any kind of 12-step group is getting them from what I like to call the church basement into the church proper itself. The Reverend John Schaeffer, St. Marianne's rector, told the Episcopal News Service, it can be difficult establishing a deeper relationship with these groups and extending welcome into the church. We want them to know that they have a whole congregation supporting their recovery process. I like the idea of the special service for sure. These are members of the group. And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Thank you, Martha and Jill. That was a great reading. The land of the twelve tribes. Our first lesson comes from Numbers chapter 32, verses 1 through 6 and 16 through 27. Chad, would you lead this?

Now the Reubenites and the Gadites owned a very great number of cattle, and when they saw that the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead was a good place for cattle, the Gadites and the Reubenites came and spoke to Moses, to Eliezer the priest, and to the leaders of the congregations, saying, Adaroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimron, Heshbon, Elielah, Sabum, Nabo, and Baon, the land that the Lord subdued before the congregation of Israel is a land for cattle, and your servants have cattle. They continued, If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan. But Moses said to the Ganonites and to the Reubenites, Shall your brothers go to war while you sit here? Then they came up to him and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our flocks and towns for our little ones. But we will take up arms as a vanguard before the Israelites until we have brought them to their home place. Meanwhile, our little ones will stay in the fortified towns because of the inhabitants of the land. We will not return to our homes until all the Israelites have obtained their inheritance. We will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan to the east. So Moses said to them, If you do this, if you take up arms to go before the Lord for the war, and all those of you who bear arms cross the Jordan before the Lord until he has driven out his enemies from before him, and the land is subdued before the Lord, then after that you may return and be free of your obligation to the Lord and to Israel, and this land shall be your possession before the Lord. But if you do not do this, you have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out. Build towns for your little ones and folds for your flocks, but do what you have promised. Then the Gadites and the Reubenites said to Moses, Your servants will do as my Lord commands. Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and our livestock shall remain there in the towns of Gilead, but your servants will cross over, everyone armed for war, to do battle for the Lord, just as my Lord orders. Thank you, Jacqueline. This is our saint of the day, Eva Lee Matthews. Eva Lee Matthews and a friend, Beatrice Henderson, were working at Bethany House, a child-centered ministry at Eva's Brothers Parish in Cincinnati, when they founded the community of the Transfiguration in 1898. Later that year, they bought property in Glendale, Ohio, a northern suburb where they operate a day school, a retreat center, and a community services nearby. Eva Lee Matthews is our saint of the day. And now three prayers: the collect of the day for Eva Lee Matthews, a monastic who died in the year 1928, a collect for the renewal of life, and the Anglican Rosary Prayer. Deacon Elizabeth, would you lead these three prayers?

Deliver us from an inordinate love of this war, that we, inspired by the devotion of your servant, Eva Lee Matthews, may serve you with singleness of heart and attain to the riches of the age to come, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit. One God, now and forever. Amen. O God, the King Eternal, whose light divides the day from the night, and turns the shadow of death into the morning. Drive far from us all wrong desires. Amen. Amen. Thank you, Deacon. In our Monday morning prayer list, our most recent, we pray for the continued health and well-being of the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, Sean Rowe. We're also praying for the primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, Shane Parker, and the Archbishop of the Province of the West Indies, Philip Wright of Belize. That pretty much covers everyone who joins us on a daily basis. We are also praying for all of those immigrants to our country who are being persecuted and pursued by ICE. Pray for our founding vicar, Josh Thomas, in a skilled nursing facility for his continued improvement from a stroke. I spent some time with Josh on the phone this weekend. We're also praying for an upcoming surgery that Josh has of having a kidney stone, a rather large and sharp kidney stone removed. We're praying for Sarah, who fell and did a face plant, broke both of her kneecaps, and she's still recovering from that fall. She and her husband are currently researching and looking at uh possibly going into not an assisted living facility, but a graduated living type situation. No prayers. We'll continue with the prayer for the mission of the church. Give me one second here. I'm gonna double back and ask Addie to lead us in the prayer for the mission of the church, and then I'll bless the Lord and bless us.
