Good morning and welcome. I'm Father Tom Roy, the Vicar of the Daily Office Network. The Daily Office Network is a community of Christians who gather together on a daily basis to pray morning prayer. We use the Episcopal Church's Book of Common Prayer as our guide. We mix in artwork. We have a news story. There's a video at the end. All are welcome here where we do our best to exercise tolerance and decency with one another. Now let's settle in and begin morning prayer. Today is Friday. It is the 10th of July, 2026. In the life of the church, it is a Friday in proper nine. The Daily Office Network is podcasting. You can find us on Apple or Spotify by searching Daily Office Network as the keywords. In all his ways are just a faithful God without deceit. Just and upright is He. Southern Baptists have long believed that only men can be pastors, but for decades the denomination took no action to expel churches where women pastors served. Then in the middle of an abuse controversy, it became a denominational crisis. This is a very fairly in-depth and lengthy story, so I provided a story link. You can go and click on that, it'll take you right to it. The hour is coming, and now is when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. For such the Father seeks to worship him. You are great above all gods. In your hands are the caverns of the earth, and the heights of the hills are yours also. The sea is yours, for you made it, and your hands have molded the dry land. Come, let us bow down and bend the knee and kneel before the Lord our Maker. For you are our God, and we are the people of your pasture and the sheep of your hand. Oh, that today we would hearken to your voice.

Amen. Thank you, Jill and Martha. That was a great reading. Moses speaks to Israel. Our first reading comes from Deuteronomy chapter 31, verses 7 through 13 and 24 through 32. Chad, would you lead this?

Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and bold, for you are the one who will go with this people into the land that the Lord has sworn to their ancestors to give to them, and you will put them in possession of it. It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you, he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed. Then Moses wrote down this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord, and to all the elders of Israel. Moses commanded them every seventh year in the scheduled year of remission during the festival of Booths, when all Israel comes to appear before the Lord your God at the place that he will choose, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing. Assemble the people, men, women, and children, as well as the aliens residing in your towns, that you may be that they may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, and to observe diligently all the words of the law, so that their children who have not known it may hear it, and learn to fear the Lord your God, as long as you live in the land that you are crossing over the Jordan to possess. When Moses had finished writing down in a book the words of this law to the very end, Moses commanded the Levites who carried the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord, saying, Take this book of the law and put it beside the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord your God. Let it remain there as a witness to you, for I know well how rebellious and stubborn you are. If you already have been so rebellious toward the Lord while I am still alive among you, how much more after my death? Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes and your officials, so that I may recite these words in their hearing and call heaven and earth to witness against them. For I know that after my death you will surely not corrupt you will surely act corruptly, turning aside from the way that I have commanded you. In time to trouble in time to come, trouble will befall you, because you will do what is evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger through the work of your hands. Then Moses recited the words of this song to the very end in the hearing of those of the whole assembly of Israel. Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak. Let the earth hear the words of my mouth, may my teaching drop like the rain, my speech condense like the dew, like gentle rain on the grass, like showers on new growth. For I will proclaim the name of the Lord, ascribe greatness to our God. The rock, his work is perfect, and all his ways are just, a faithful God without deceit, just and upright is he. The word of the Lord.

Brothers and sisters, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. I can testify that they have a zeal for God, but it is not enlightened, for being ignorant of the righteousness that comes from God and seeking to establish their own, they have not submitted to God's righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law, so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. Moses writes concerning the righteousness that comes from the law, that the person who does these things will be will live by them. But the righteousness that comes from faith says, Do not say in your heart who will ascend into heaven, that is to bring Christ down, or who will descend into the abyss, that is to bring Christ up from the dead, but what does it say? The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart. That is the word of faith that we proclaim, because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved, for one believes with a heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. The Scripture says no one who believes in him will be put to shame, for there is no distinction between Jew and Greek. The same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call upon him, for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. The word of the Lord.

Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing infants in those days. Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath, for at that time there will be great suffering, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now. No, and never will be. And if those days had not been cut short, no one would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, those days will be cut short. Then, if anyone says to you, Look, here is the Messiah, or there he is, do not believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and produce great signs and omens to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. Take note, I have told you beforehand. He descended to the dead. On the third day, he rose again, he ascended into heaven. He is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead. Sure. Oh God, you have taught us to keep all commandments by loving you and our neighbor. Grant us the grace of your Holy Spirit that we may be devoted to you with our whole hearts and united to one another with pure affection through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. Almighty God, whose most dear son were not up to joy, but fast disavered pain and ended not into glory before he was crucified. Mercifully grant that we walking in the way of the cross may find it none other than the way of life and peace. Through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. Amen. Oh God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus, your son. Look with compassion on the whole human family. Take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts.
