Good morning and welcome. I'm Father Tom Royd, the vicar of the Daily Office Network. I'm an ordained priest in the Diocese of Minnesota in what we call ECMN. The Daily Office Network is a community of Christians who gather together on a daily basis to pray morning prayer. We use the Episcopal Church's Book of Common Prayer as our guide. We mix in artwork. We have a news story. There's a video at the end. We come from several different faith traditions in several different countries. All are welcome here, where we do our best to exercise tolerance and decency with one another. Let's settle in and begin morning prayer. Today is the 3rd of August, 2026. It was dry on the fleece only, and on all the ground there was dew. With voices that cracked and a few tears on their cheeks, Pastors Neftali Zaya Sasado and Cynthia Sari Cardona Ortero led their Edinburgh, Texas congregation in praise of God for their recent release from immigration detention and prayer for those who are left behind. As the body of Christ, we can intercede, and not just for our family and our friends, but also for people we maybe haven't ever seen, but who also endure pain and who also suffer injustice, who are also fighting to see the light of the sun again and have dignified food for themselves, a space to sleep, and a space to be, and above all, a space to be reunited with their families. Zo Zoya in Spanish, his voice full of emotion during the Sunday, August 26th worship service, he told the assembled he had promised his cellmates the congregation's prayers. Pray for our immigrants, those being detained by ice. The conditions sound deplorable. Addie, would you leave us in the invitatory in the Psalter this morning? Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen. Hallelujah. Come, let us sing to the Lord, let us shout for joy to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before God's presence with thanksgiving and raise to the Lord and shout with psalms. For you are a great God, you are great above all gods. In your hands are the caverns of the earth, and the heights of the hills are yours also. The sea is yours, for you made it, and your hands have molded the dry land. Come, let us bow down and bend the knee and kneel before the Lord our Maker. For you are our God, and we are the people of your pasture and the sheep of your hand. Oh, that today we would hearken to your voice.

That night the Lord said to Gideon, Take your father's bull, the second bull, seven years old, and pull down the altar of Baal that belongs to your father, and cut down the sacred pole that is beside it, and build an altar to the Lord your God on the top of the stronghold here, in proper order. Take the second bull and offer it as a burnt offering with the wood of the sacred pole that you shall cut down. So Gideon took ten of his servants and did as the Lord had told him, but because he was too afraid of his family and the townspeople to do it by day, he did it by night. When the townspeople rose early in the morning, the altar of Baal was broken down, and the sacred pole beside it was cut down, and the second bull was offered on the altar that had been built. So they said to one another, Who has done this? After searching and inquiring they were told, Gideon, son of Joash, did it. Then the townspeople said to Joash, Bring out your sons, so that he may die. For he has pulled down the altar of Baal and cut down the sacred pole beside it. But Joash said to all who were arrayed against him, Will you contend for Baal, or will you defend his cause? Whoever contends for him shall be put to death by mourning. If he is a god, let him contend for himself, because his altar has been pulled down. Therefore on that day Gideon was called Jerubel, which was to say, Let Baal contend against him, because he pulled down his altar. Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the people of the east came together, and crossing the Jordan they encamped in the valley of Jezreel. But the Spirit of the Lord took possession of Gideon, and he sounded the trumpet, and the Abiasarites who were called out to follow him. He sent out messengers through all Manasseh, and they too were called out to follow him. He also sent messengers to Asher, Zebulun, and Naphtali, and they went up to meet him. Then Gideon said to God, In order to see whether you will deliver Israel by my hand, as you have said, I am going to lay a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If there is dew on the fleece alone, and it is dry on the ground, then I shall know that you will deliver Israel by my hand, as you have said. And it was so. When he rose early the next morning and squeezed the fleece, he wrung enough dew from the fleece to fill a bowl with water. Then Gideon said to God, Do not let your anger burn against me. Let me speak one more time. Let me please make trial with the fleece just one more time. Let it be dry only on the fleece, and on the ground let there be dew. And God did so that night. It was dry on the fleece only, and on all the ground there was dew. The word of the Lord.

Almighty God, who revealed the resurrection of your son to Joanna, Mary, and Salome, as they faithfully came bearing Ma to his tomb. Grant that we too may perceive the presence of the risen Lord in the midst of pain and fear, that we may go forth proclaiming the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you, and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Incline our hearts to keep your law and guide our feet into the way of peace. That having done your will with cheerfulness during the day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give you thanks through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. Dear Lord Jesus, help me to do the things I should, to be to others kind and good, and in all I do or say, grow more loving every day.

We start out on Mondays by praying for the continued health of the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, Sean Rowe. We're praying for the primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, Shane Parker. And for the Archbishop of the province of the West Indies, Philip Wright of Belize. We're praying for those immigrants to our country who are being persecuted and pursued by ICE. Our top story really highlighted that. We're praying for our founding vicar, Josh Thomas, in a skilled nursing facility. We're praying for his continued improvement from a stroke. Ian is struggling with his mental health. We're praying for his ongoing support. We're praying for his return to normalcy. Carmen has health challenges. We're praying for her divine healing as well. She was just in the ER this past week, getting some fluid taken off of her abdomen. Pray for Carmen. Dawn has herniated discs and severe pain in her back. Pray for Dawn. Miss Jan is asking for us to pray for her provision and employment. She's been seeking a job and her unemployment has run out. Please continue to pray for Jan. Patricia is in an assisted living facility. We're praying for her healing and her relief of her pain. And you continue to pray for Yvonne, our Yvonne, who's been fighting cancer for seven plus years. We'll continue with the prayer for the mission of the church. I'm going to ask Patricia to lead this, then I'll bless the Lord and bless us.

Wherever you go, take that love of Jesus that lives inside of you, the Jesus you carry in your heart, and share that Jesus with the world. That's the Jesus people need to see.
