Recorded. Good morning and welcome. I'm Father Tom Roy, the Vicar of the Daily Office Network. The Daily Office Network is a community of Christians who gather together on a daily basis to pray morning prayer. We use the Episcopal Church's Book of Common Prayer as our guide. We mix in artwork. Sometimes there's a news story. There's a video at the end. We come from several different faith traditions in several different countries. All are welcome here where we do our best to exercise tolerance and decency with one another. Let's settle in and begin morning prayer. Today is the 6th of August, 2026. In the life of the church, we celebrate the transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ today. It is the 6th. The Daily Office Network is posting our services to podcasts Monday through Friday. The Lord said to Moses, Come up to me on the mountain and wait there. This is a pic a depiction of Christ in glory by Aidan Hart. You are no longer strangers and sojourners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God. Addie, would you lead us in the invitatory and the Psalter this morning? Amen. Thank you, Annie and Jill. That was a great reading. This is the cloud of presence over Mount Sinai. Our first lesson is from Exodus chapter 24, verses twelve through eighteen. Chad, would you lead this?

Whoever has a dispute may go to them. Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. The glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days. Therefore, since it is by God's mercy that we are engaged in this ministry, we do not lose heart. We have renounced the shameful things that one hides. We refuse to practice cunning or to falsify God's word. But by the open statement of the truth we commend ourselves to the conscience of everyone in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the God of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not proclaim ourselves, we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ours and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus' sake. Sure. O God, who on the holy mount revealed Jose and weaknesses, your well-beloved son, wonderfully transfigured in raiment white and glistening. Mercifully grant that we being delivered from the disquietitude of this world may by faith behold the King in his beauty, who with you, O Father, and you O Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, forever and ever. Amen. Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our beings. We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but but may remember that we are ever working in your sight through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Amen. Thank you, Deacon. And now it's time for America's gun toll. Look at how many people got shot or killed this past week in America with all the guns that we have. Our stats are drawn on Monday, so this would be as of the 3rd of August. Our spotlight takes us to a well publicized shooting. Twin Falls, Idaho, where a shooting occurred at an In and Out burger. A mass shooting at a fast restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho has left three dead and eight wounded when the subject opened fire on people near the recently opened restaurant. Police credit a healthcare worker who was carrying a concealed handgun and an off-duty state police officer, with lessening the number of people killed as they fired upon the shooter and drove him away from the scene. The shooter was believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. In the photograph above, an emergency responder at the site of the fatal shooting in Twin Falls on Saturday. We look at our totals from this last week, and both of our numbers went down. Those killed by gunfire in the United States went down to 248, it had been 251 the week before. That's a drop of three. It brings our year-to-date killed in the United States to 7,629. Those injured by gunfire in the United States also went down. It went down by 12. It was 489 last week. It was 477 this week. And it brings our total year-to-date injury in the United States to 14,277. And so we pray a prayer to end gun violence. Patricia, would you lead us in this prayer?

Oh Lord our God, we pray for the victims who are impacted by our access and use of guns in the United States. Gun violence ravages our homes, our streets, our businesses, schools, and houses of worship. We pray for the children killed and injured, for their families, classmates, and school employees. We pray for teenagers gunned down before their lives have really started. We pray for police officers who keep fighting a never-ending battle while trying to keep themselves and everyone else safe. And we pray to an end to racial profiling in law enforcement. We pray that all who are depressed or mentally ill, wanting to hurt themselves or others in a nation where guns are everywhere. We pray for the victims of crime who are forced to defend themselves and their loved ones. We pray for anti-violence activists and community leaders in a time when new methods of protest and reform must be created. Let your demands for justice and cries for peace be heard, O Lord, in our legislative chambers and in our hearts. May your healing grace overtake this land through our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
