In this episode Tash tells a story of her recent trip to Malvern Manor in Iowa. She ghost hunted and did some dumb stuff.

But you uh you took some video and stuff. Yeah. And so we'll we'll play like the the intro of it. And uh Yeah.

So you get a little bit of the background, the history of truly what Malvern Manor is all about.

Why don't why don't you uh explain leading up to it?

So like uh you had to work that day So I was a moron and didn't take the day off to sleep. I worked. So let's just uh preface this with by the end of by the time I got back home from the roughly hour drive to Malvern, Iowa, I had been up for over 24 hours straight.

Um And you are ancient and you need like so much sleep.

Clearly, I need my beauty rest. Um it was uh I I think I was more terrified of having to stay awake for that long.

Well, and that's like in itself.

I'm like, I don't know if I'm gonna make it.

Like I literally was like I met a lot of like people that see shit. It's because they're sleep deprived and they're just hallucinating.

Like my eyes played tricks on me a lot during this.

I need like eight Red Bulls right now.

I and I can't, like I can't drink that. I mean, I did finally they had a coffee pot. I don't know how long it's been there.

Um since 2005. Probably not cleaned.

No, it was a curing. They didn't have those back then. Um, so they had a coffee bar and I like I don't know, I think it was like 3 30 in the morning, and I'm like, I gotta get jacked because I'm there's no way that you're not gonna make it to this witching hour, which is 3 33. Um, so I drank the biggest cup of coffee, and that's like giving me crack cocaine. So I was pretty wired for a couple hours after that. Um, and then I'll get to the ride home, which was also terrifying. So, yes, worked. Um, we had to get everybody rolling by about 2 p.m. Because we were scheduled to be there between 3:30 and 4 to meet Josh, the current owner. Um, who is Josh, thanks, man. Um, I really hope you watch this because your passion that you have for the place, um, and keeping it true to its form of when it actually shut down in 2005 was awesome.

That is true. I mean, you can tell. So there was a book also that he shared with us of like you can write your experiences, which throughout, like I started reading into like reading other people's experiences, which then freaked me out even more.

Um, and that's all part of it.

I know, but it was so obvious, um, as you'll see in these clips, that people bring gifts to the spirits who are supposedly there. Um, so there is like the amount of like balls, not testicles, but like play balls.

Um, but there's like, yeah, like, you know, toys and balls and cars and coloring books for for Susie. And um, so it it's kind of Did you bring anything? No. Oh, see No, I brought cat balls. I didn't leave one. Sorry. Um But no, I didn't know. You know, like I tried to do a lot of things.

We got to meet with Josh, he gave us a tour, kind of showed us um, you know, just different areas that people have had uh spirit interaction.

The one part I'm so pissed showman. Yeah, like a a real good, like a sales guy. Like not really.

I think he was just he was down to earth, like and super excited that we were spending the night and like wanted to tell, like, told us like his experiences and some funny stories about um when he was in the bathroom and taking a shit. So thanks, Josh, for that. Um but you know, just learning about the history. There is one area that I totally forgot to take a picture of, and I am really pissed at myself. But upstairs in a hallway, there are bloody walls. Like you can see like handprints and fingers. I personally thought it was shit at first, which I asked him. I was like, Are you sure that the blood turns brown?

I know it oxidizes.

You sure it's not poop? And he's like, No, I actually had it tested. He did tell us that they did find out that the blood was only from one individual. Um so I have a theory behind it.

Um somebody had a baby.

No, so when the when it was shut down in 2005, it was a group home, and it was stated that it was truly shut down because of neglect. I have a feeling, and the group home was for people with mental illness. Can you imagine people with schizophrenia or whatever other things, you know, they had going on, like fighting, or if you had a cutter, like they are cutting themselves. They have no supervision at this point.

And it's I'm sure the staff was one person.

Right. You know, and so I'm sure shit got crazy towards the end. Um, it was also stated that they didn't have heat or air.

Could you imagine like the poop and pee?

So one of the rooms that we went into, um Gracie's room, Gracie was the gal who had 13, known to have 13 different personalities, two of them being men, and could change her voice to like a male voice, um, which is very unheard of for a woman to have number one, that many personalities, and number two, to have them be men. I don't know.

Like her room, have that many personalities. Have you met my wife?

You better watch it. You're gonna get in trouble for that one. Um but when you walk into that room, which is on the first floor, um, in like pretty much the first hallway that you would go down from kind of like the sitting room, which is over by the bathroom, um, as he was on the tour, he's like, Okay, do you smell that? We're like, Yeah, it smells like piss. He's like, So you'll smell a really strong scent of urine, and then all of a sudden it'll just go away. So literally while he was on the tour with us, taking us around during daylight hours, which they have blacked out all those freaking windows.

I was gonna say, like the the videos, like it all the stuff. Is that just for like so that you can go through it during the day and it's still spooky? I mean otherwise if it's daylight, like it's not like the same.

Some of them you could actually have light on. So like some of the rooms were so dark, even with a flashlight, and it was too difficult for even as I'm filming some things. I did turn the lights on for a couple of the rooms just so you guys could get a good idea of like what that looked like. But I will tell you in the evening, whoo! That was okay.

Okay. So welcome. Um we are your co-hosts right now, and I'm your host, to Comedyville Horror Podcast, Malvern Manor Edition. We are doing an overnight stay at the Malvern Manor. Um, this lovely group of friends that I have here conned me into this shit. Uh and we are celebrating this one's birthday. Cool. So, yes, we did Veliska before. Those of you who have watched, um, we kind of recapped that. But now we're actually gonna give you some live snippets and scenes from our overnight spooky session. Um, Krista knows a little bit more about Malvern Manor. She has been here multiple times. So I'm gonna let her just give a brief overview of kind of what this is all about.

All right. So the Malvern Manor is here in Malvern, Iowa. Um, it was built in the late 1800s as a hotel for guys who worked on the railroad. Um, so that way they had a place to stay. It ended up maintaining a hotel until the 1950s, which then at that point it became a nursing home. It ran as a nursing home for a while and then kind of rolled over into more of a group home setting. Um, it ran with that until 2005 when actually the facility was shut down due to negligence. Um, there was poor patient care. The facility didn't even have heat for these guys. So this area here has gone through different hands, different experiences, and of course, different types of people have been here. So we've had everything from just basic railway workers to some children that have been here, to those who were elderly, to those who were, I would just say, mentally unstable, because we know anything can get thrown in here. Um, Josh also told us that at times there were murderers that were actually housed here as well. So we got a variety of people and it's a pretty big place. So we'll see how many times we get to clip in and show you stuff. Apparently, we currently have a temperature change right now on our REM pod as we're doing this in the room.

Uh we are entering Gracie's room. Thank you, Gracie, for letting us visit. Um Gracie, from what we understand, has suffered from some schizophrenia and had up to 13 different um personalities.

Two of them being male, which is highly uncommon. Um they found her glasses. Everything has primarily been left uh the way it was back in 2005. Um terrible living conditions, even back in 2005. So we'll see what happens. We got REM pod going, and we're here to hear from ya. So after um, you know, we arrived and we did the tour, then we actually ran across the street to get some food at the classic cafe, mind you, delicious food.

So this is a small town, right? Like it's like a fucking a one-horse town.

Not as small as Vallisca. And I will um say the difference between Vallisca and Malvern Manor, which are super close towns. When we were at Vallisca, there was only like certain things that you could sit on. They told you to not sit on like the the uh parents' beds. Just you had to be a little bit more careful of what you put.

That had like really old furniture, right? Like it was uh 100-year-old fucking furniture that made out of fucking horse hair and shit.

Yeah, probably.

I mean, it was This was more modern because it shut down in the city.

You would think 2005, that's not that long ago. And the conditions like a time capsule. It is because there's still at the nurse's station, which is over by the Shadow Man's hallway, um, patients' names like on like the med cards, like there's chart. I mean, not charts. Obviously, he said he had to remove any of the like medical information due to HIPAA, but there's people's names. Like it's kind of freaking crazy. However, I will say, like, the wallpaper and stuff. So why I don't think they changed it.

Why is it a HIPAA thing? But then they tell stories of people with 17 fucking pers See, that's what I don't understand. I think all of this is made up fabricated stories.

I mean, maybe some of it has been um fabricated over time, right? Or people get cer certain things from a spirit box or disembodied voices.

They they think they are getting information from the ghost or whatever, and it's like, no, you're just making shit up now.

I don't know. I mean, there had to have been some info, but I will say, like, going back to G just the like aesthetics of it, I think even if it was shut down in 2005, they didn't do anything even back in like I think it was the 70s or 80s when it for a short stint was uh like a nursing facility. They shut down very soon after it became the nursing facility because the fire marshal stated that the hallways and the doorways were too small for wheelchairs. Um, so it was just deemed not appropriate for that type of facility, which is then when it opened into the group home. Literally, the wallpaper is from like 70s or 80s and a lot of the shit in there. So yeah, I mean, it's they have not done a whole lot for many years, even prior to 2005.

So why don't we play uh a couple of the rooms that you went in? Yeah, why don't why don't you get into like uh some of the stuff that has happened?

SPEAKER_02 16:34

So in the first room, after um, you'll see the room that we were sitting in with all of us in the intro, that was technically like the lobby area. So when it was a hotel for the ra railroaders to come into, that became almost like a men's parlor. So many stories. I mean, I'm sure there was a hookers and prostitutes.

I like I imagine railroad workers like fucking they're it's like old timey West, like where they're playing cards and then fucking flipping it over and shooting each other.

Well, maybe I don't know. Like that like westerny, but um, but I just can't even imagine like the amount of stories that and and people that have passed through there because it truly was a hotel for many, many years. And it was the fourth oldest building ever built in Melbourne.

So as we're sitting there, we kind of what a a strange thing to know.

I know the fourth, it it's not the oldest, but like it's the fourth, like in a small town.

Like okay, but there's a lot of buildings in the town now. Like the main street is there's way more on the main drag, which you could just walk to than even like Velisca. Like it's bigger than Velisca. So um right behind it, there is like a newer outbuilding, um, which is literally just across the alley, and you park in the back to enter the manor, and now it's a bar. There's a parking lot. So I was like, that's where I'm gonna be if I get too scared. Um, I did not step foot in that bar, but so we were all sitting there. That's the room that we started in for our ghost hunt. Um, kind of waited until the sun started to set and we were just getting ready to rock and roll. So we're trying to get some EVPs. Um we're using the EMF reader, we're using the REM pod as we're sitting in that room, and that's when the there was a blue light that would light if it was a cold temperature change, or it would go red if it was heat. So we got a couple of temperature changes in that room. And then as we were asking questions to see if we could get anything on the recorder, all of a sudden we could hear going down the street, so it would have been away from me a truck. Cause, you know, you're in Iowa, so these freaking trucks, like well, and when get a fucking muffler. Went there, happened to be there happened to be the the fair was going on. Um, so there was a there were dirt bike races that you could hear.

Um, people on like, you know, so we probably should have researched that a little bit better before we went, but it's like just noisy outside, so like you can't even fucking hear anything.

Yeah, but it I mean, not noisy at three o'clock in the morning. So um, but as we were sitting there, hear the truck go by, Doppler effect. I can hear it going away from where I was sitting. I was sitting with my back towards where the entryway would be to the hallway where Gracie's room is, and the shadow man. And Samantha was sitting next to me, and we literally heard a woman very loudly moan, like, huh?

I'm like, She was having a good time.

I mean, good for her, but scared the shit out of me. We both looked at each other like, you heard that, right? Um, Krista heard it too, you know. And everybody who's sitting on the other side of the room, they're like, No, that was a truck. That was a truck. No, it was you could definitely hear that it was coming from behind us down the hallway. So that was a little wild. Um, I will say on the tour, we were able to go into the attic with Josh. I, number one, it was hot as fuck in there. It was 8,000 degrees because you know, yesterday there was zero breeze here and in Iowa, and it was like the most humid day. Like air quality was garbage.

The the humidity is it's we're basically underwater. Oh it's 100%.

Yeah. It was like being like in the inside of a dog's mouth, like for sure.

And all the fucking corn, like every morning when I go to work, you just see the the fucking corn sweat. Yeah.

Um, so the attic, oh my god, the stairs were so tiny and narrow. Like I had to go sideways, and I still could barely fit thanks to my rack. Um to go up these stairs. The steps were so tall and skinny.

Yeah, that that was a common thing which in like world places.

Like, you know what? Here, this is where you'll die. Have you ever seen a it was terrifying? Going up was one thing, but then I had to sidestep my ass down and not literally fall into the wall that would Then impale me with whatever rusty nails went on it. Give fucking tetanus. So up in the attic, I did not like it. Totally heavy feeling. Not only the heat, but just it just it was not great. You could also see where there was a fire at the old chimney, and there had been a fire in the rafters. Um I wanna see.

I'm not leaving shit. Because when I was here the last time, nothing occurred up in this room. It was dark ass quiet. But if you look up here, I'm gonna turn my camera, you can see where there initially had been a fire here at the manor. You can see the blackened. That's fine. You can see all the blackened boards that have been no new panels over the top, but they left the fucking blackened boards here.

No. That he's not. So that was where there was a fire. We have the REM pod down here. We have the light on up here just because it is kind of a little bit of a different room. Don't really want to test my tetanus shot at this point in time. I know it's current, but I don't want to, you know, become a patient getting stuck in a place like this. So I mean seriously, well, I could've.

So I maybe in the attic. Maybe that's why I had such a terrible like feeling up there. People in the corner, there was literally offerings of cigarettes and booze. So people would leave drinks, and it was just like a pile. I really hope um I get a picture of that.

But that's funny. There's two girls that are like, anybody ever come in and drink some of the booze?

No, it's fucking hot. It's like warm booze. Sick. I would not take it. Yeah, like a beer that actually when we were outside um taking a break. Some one of the ladies was walking her dog down like a neighbor lady. Yeah, neighbor lady who lived there, and she's like, Don't take any of those drinks upstairs. I was like, Who would?

Yeah, that's kind of weird that you don't drink those drinks. Yeah, I'm like, well, I'm not gonna steal from a demon or spirit. So I think he was just a drunk, is what they were saying.

But yeah, or she goes in and she breaks it and she takes them. Yeah, she might have like. She's like, those are mine.

So supposedly there's um, which I was like, oh no, not going down there. There's two crawl spaces that actually lead to like behind the walls and take you out over by like two other rooms. I was like, okay. So I asked Josh, I said, Well, have you ever found anything in the crawl spaces? He found a receipt from like 1949.

I don't know. And somebody left a divot box. Is that what it's called? Div Yeah, the the She opened it while we were there.

Well, so I'm like, I know I really believe that those are fucking Well, somebody left one. All fake. Yeah, ca it's supposed to be like there's a fucking a demon trapped in the box or whatever. It's fucking it's all bullshit. Like you can literally buy them on fucking eBay.

Well, I'm sure somebody did and then left it in the crawl space or something.

Yeah.

But he said he found um a couple of like old crumpled up packs of cigarettes.

Uh that's just like the fucking HVAC guy.

Booze bubbles, like, yeah. I don't know. I mean, it was it was rough. I did not go back up there. I did not like the feeling that I had. I will say that was one of the main areas I did not feel safe. Um also just from anything falling on me or a nail. Yeah. Um, and then also the shadow man hallway. Um, so there's still room numbers on the rooms. During our session in the shadow man hallway, we use the spirit box to like I guess it's called like the Estes asbestos. No, Estes, like I don't know, where you like have so cold wood where the headphones blindfold himself, and then it goes through the radio frequencies, and then we'll have like words come out.

Well, rumor has it with the shadow man, which is where Krista had experiences, and um we'll definitely share that clip with also her photo.

So currently here at Malvern Manor, we are in what's known as Shadow Man's Hallway. Um, this is known to have a gentleman who was a former resident here. He was claimed to be anywhere between six foot four to six foot seven. Did not speak, um, but he did love to harass the nurses in that that worked here. Um, when I was here several years ago, he ended up making himself very well known to me, causing me extreme pain within my neck and within my jaw, very heavy to breathe. I ended up walking away from that area and coming down to right about where I'm standing now. And he ended up following me down here, and it literally felt like two hands on my shoulders and like gravity literally tripled around me. Um, we do have a night vision camera photo that was taken of me, and you can actually see the large shadow standing behind me as it was going down. So we're currently here checking out the hallway to see if he's known, if he's here. Um, we have a REM pod clear down at the bottom there. If you see a very faint red light, um, a couple of us are sitting here off to the side. That's my nieces right there. Of course, over here we got Miss Natasha and my son Cole. So upon entering this hallway, we've had a lot of heavy feelings, headaches, EMF spikes. We've had one temperature change so far on the REM pod, but that's really been about it so far. But it's still fairly early. I mean, it's still light outside, so give him time, he'll eventually show up.

So, all right. Where you can see the shadow man figure who supposedly is like six foot seven. So we kept saying six seven. Um fucking stupid. But you can see him behind her when someone snapped a picture of night vision while she was standing there.

Kind of, but if you see it, because obviously she sent it to me, so it gets distorted as right she sends it. So but when you see the actual photo that she has on her phone, it's much more distinctive. Um because it's night vision, I know it's kind of difficult, but the room too is locked. So when this shadow man came out, and rumor has it, is that he's um he's a mute gentleman who lived in the the group home, um, or nursing home, I don't know which one.

It was at the same time, like it was still like no, the nursing home portion.

Well, the nursing home was shut down. So I think way before it and technically it when I read the history, it was technically an assisted living, which that wing was the only wing where the shadow man's room is, where there's the nurse's station. I'm guessing that those would have been the people who advanced and probably needed more like a long-term care setting. And then the people who were upstairs were the people who were ambulatory, maybe not as many uh comorbidities, um, because the staircase is also like a curvy, very thin, like spiral-y kind of staircase. Like there's a curve at the top. Really? Getting any bodies down there would be a fucking shit show.

Well, so shut the door with the shadow man. Um, I think they thought his name was Johnny. During like room checks or med passes, he would charge from the end of the hallway, charge the nurses. Like charge after him because he was mute. And so that's what people feel.

Fucking nurses stations? Why is it that like nobody ever fucking helps you? Like I was just at the hospital uh yesterday, and it was like so you know how like you have to fucking uh ring the buzzer thing or whatever to get let in and all this?
