@theetsomecaskcast
Good evening. Welcome to Summerton. Welcome to the Etsom Arms. And welcome to the Etsom Castcast.
SPEAKER_03Good evening, listener.
SPEAKER_04Woo! That's loud. I'm joined as ever by Ash and Max. Good evening, gentlemen. Hello. Happy Thursday. Get your beer in ya. It's another light evening. I noticed when episode two, episode ten, was published today. Oh yeah, it was. And that was the first one in the light, and it's now lighter. Yeah. It's staying lighter later. When did we record that? Like three weeks ago? Two weeks ago, three weeks ago?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Max has now got a tomato.
SPEAKER_03He's cracked him open.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Bruh, that's gross.
SPEAKER_04So Max just chose to moist ass shit. Anyway, welcome to the Exxon Castcast. Tonight we are going back to our roots. The tomato's now been joined by some beef flavoured hula hoops.
SPEAKER_03Bro, he's put it straight on his keyboard.
SPEAKER_04Other snacks are available.
unknownSorry, let me distract you.
SPEAKER_04Well, it's hard not to be distracted by somebody eating tomatoes and hula hoops. He's stacking them off. He's crunching it up. But important news today. Important news today, we are going back to our roots. This is a hundred percent cast cast. Oh my god. Yeah. So this is literally all cask. It's what it sells on a tent. It's what we should have been doing all along. The XMARMS tonight has eight Bristol beers on. And what we've got Bristol takeover. We've got an octahedron. Which I believe is regular octahedron. A regular octahedron. Which works in the form of a dice. So for those listeners who don't know, an octahedron is an eight-sided shape. Sha D. And then it's got numbers one to eight written on it. What with maths. What we're gonna do is.
SPEAKER_03So do you want to explain why you got that dice though? Because it is actually a it's a it's a it's a bar prop. It's a smart staple.
SPEAKER_04If people come into the bar and can't decide which glass which jar that which beer they want. Yeah. Uh we offer them the octahedral dice and and for the benefit of the tape, I think my Max might have to add in a dice rolling noise in post. Don't worry about it. Um but I just roll the dice and it goes to number six. I just won a fiver off Max earlier on a game of dice. Yeah, don't worry about it. Yeah, but it it wouldn't take part in the pub for the benefit of our Summerset licensing fee.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we're on the street. Yeah. Rolling dice. Rolling dice on the street playing crabs. Motherfucker rolled a one, he rolled a snake eyes.
SPEAKER_04So um so tonight what we're gonna do is we're gonna roll the dice and decide which beer and the dice will tell us which beer we're gonna try. Beautiful. Should we go through what is on the list first? So we're only doing six, aren't we? We're only doing six, yeah, because we tend to get a little drunk, don't we? Yeah, a little bit.
SPEAKER_03So no, no, we shouldn't. We should we should leave it up to the dice whether or not these these breweries get mentioned or not. No, because we got some we've got some we got some doubles, haven't we? How many doubles have you got? What from uh two from one brewery? Yeah. What what do they do to get two then?
SPEAKER_04Oh, backhand deals here. No, it's not. Um anyway, joining us is the lovely Sharon. Hello, Sharon. Um, and um Sharon will be serving us the beers this evening. Sharon's the co-owner of the Eczum Arms. Yeah. Oh yeah. And um, yeah. So should we shake should we roll the dice? Yeah, or unless anyone's got any other.
SPEAKER_03Okay. We need to get straight down to Bibbs. Any nonsense. What? Right, unrolling the dice. Unrolling the dice. Could be glass to roll in the case.
SPEAKER_05Rolling in the glass. That'd be a nice sound. Anyway, do that. Shake it like the sound effect from the glass.
SPEAKER_03Shake it like the game of Yahtzee in a plastic cup or something.
SPEAKER_05That's an Adele song, innit?
SPEAKER_04Rolling in the glass.
SPEAKER_03Yahtzee. Nice rolling in the deep. Ooh. Oh my god. Don't smoke, don't break that glass, Mode. Here we go. Oh, what are we gonna do? PD's pick of the week. Oh no fucking way. Yeah? This is rigged. No, it's not. Yeah, he's got a bit of blue tack still stuck on that dice.
SPEAKER_04The dice doesn't lie. And instead of um we've got two forms of blurb. We've got the brewer's notes, and then when I do the pick of the week, I make my own notes.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So I we're gonna go through both of them.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So um Sharon's just arranging number five.
SPEAKER_03This is the trouble with this system, we can't pre pre-prepare the beers.
SPEAKER_04No, but we can build up.
SPEAKER_03We can talk and um discuss. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Anyway, we we haven't started, but what are you origin what are you drinking?
SPEAKER_03No, you haven't done that. We jumped straight in with two down to business. Yes. You're eating that packet of Chris upside down.
SPEAKER_04Don't worry about it.
SPEAKER_05Oh, that was well quick.
SPEAKER_03Oh wow.
SPEAKER_04Anyway, should we are we gonna go through what we're drinking or we should do, yeah? What are you drinking? I'm on the Bristol Lager, the gravity. Nice. Nice. It's back in the water. It's so popular, we ran out of it this weekend.
SPEAKER_03Is that your first sellout?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we had to go and buy.
SPEAKER_03Do you usually have a couple cakes? Usually, usually.
SPEAKER_04It was a little bit of a in the purchasing system.
SPEAKER_03So was there was it your fault or their end? I can't say that. Or you prefer not to say I can't really say it this time. Don't want to throw anyone under the bus. There was a supply issue, but um, you know, it we're talking about it, so any publicity is good purpose. We've worked it through. There you go. It won't happen again. Um patrons of the Etsom. So Ash, what are you what are you drinking? Um I've actually forgotten. I'm drinking now. What what did I get? What did I get? I think this is Motueka. It is Motueka for sure. Because I I've had a couple. That's why I've forgotten. My first one I had a catch me from Left Handed Giant, a rare, a rare cask ale from those guys. It's good good this, just in case the dice doesn't decide. Yeah, true. That was that was amazing. I really enjoyed that, although it's not Pete's pick of the week. And now I'm having a um a safe bet of an arbor motorworker.
SPEAKER_05Should we probably put bets on what the dice will land on? Not in the pub. Not in the pub.
SPEAKER_03We're gonna have to have a roaming roaming mic. I can we'll phone in. That would be so money. Do you know a guy? Called Mike.
SPEAKER_04Um and I am drinking the one which we're just about to sample. So I'm not gonna say any I'm not gonna say any more about that. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Right then, should we um should we clink and drink?
SPEAKER_05Let's do it.
SPEAKER_04Well, you're having a sniff first.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah, we'll have a sniff first. You better add. Well, seeing as we're back on the cask. Well, it smells weird. It's gonna smell nicer. It smells like Bristol Beer Factory.
SPEAKER_03It smells like Bristol Beer Factory. They got some weird water.
SPEAKER_04It smells like a really clean glass.
SPEAKER_05It does smell like Bristol Beer Factory.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, facts.
SPEAKER_05Is that what they call that Uber Mongols?
SPEAKER_03Can I say that I famously like I think I've said it before, half dislike it.
SPEAKER_05Well.
SPEAKER_03I just don't trust them. Shall we clink? No, no, no.
SPEAKER_04Shall we clink?
SPEAKER_03If we haven't been there, where is Bristol Beer Factory? Yeah, Sharon and I have been on the Grand Tour. No, but I mean it's not we'll come on to it later, but it's not on the old trail.
SPEAKER_04No, because it's in uh South Bristol. Is it quite a big place though? Oh it's massive. It's a factory. Oh really?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, proper factory humongous. It smells like factory to be fair.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it does smell like a factory floor. A chicken factory. A chicken factory.
SPEAKER_03I'm trying to do where the colonel gets his stock.
SPEAKER_04Oh, that's good.
SPEAKER_03That is good. Oh, it is nice. It smelled a bit weird, but I do like it, yeah. It's clean. That's why it's pick of the week, mate. It's clean tasting.
SPEAKER_04That's so good. What do you want to hear first? Do you want to hear my blurb or do you want to hear the brewery's blurb? Uh yours. I was gonna say brewery.
SPEAKER_03Hello. Rutro. Max's mic stand has just collapsed for all you non-viewers. I'm gonna go for the um. Anyone not watching the VOD? That's a bit high, mate. Are you gonna bend it down?
SPEAKER_04I'm gonna go for the brewery. Bend me over. Bus me over. Um so, end of chaos from Bristol Beer Factory, ABV 4.2%. Wow. Gluten-free IPA, strata for layers of fruit and citrus pine depth, Arebus adds black currant and floral.
SPEAKER_05Well, what the fuck is a rebus? That whole I've never heard of that before. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I didn't like that blurb. It was sent my mind away.
SPEAKER_04You just don't like you don't like how do you spell Erebus?
SPEAKER_05It sent my mind away with it.
SPEAKER_04How do you spell Erebus? Okay. Sorry, my notes have gone at the moment. How do you spell away? Is it on there? No, not my notes. No, the word Erebus. Erebus. Yeah. E-R-E-B-U-S. Erebus.
unknownHey guy.
SPEAKER_02Erebus? I always said Erebus. Erebus.
SPEAKER_05Primordial Greek deity representing darkness and shadow. Or type of hop.
SPEAKER_03Is it a hop? Yeah, try hop. That's a good name for a hop. Gotta put my goggles on.
SPEAKER_05You're such a fucking old man. Oh, that's good, uh, good start. The first result is from Reddit. Good. What does that mean?
SPEAKER_03Uh it means it is uh a people's a people's discussion.
SPEAKER_05I can't.
SPEAKER_03Well you got age verification verification.
SPEAKER_05I'm gonna have to let me talk my VPN out. Oh man. Don't you can't disclose it. Anyway, can we just um The government try to ban me from the dark web?
SPEAKER_04So number five, number five, end of chaos, I wrote, very good, not too hoppy, lovely beer. Yeah. Yeah. Bristol beers can be a bit too hop led.
SPEAKER_03I was about to say it's a bit too boring though. But it'd be I don't think it's boring. I don't think it's nice. It's beautiful. It's a nice one, but it's a yeah, it's and it's very clean. It's incredibly clean. No, it just tastes. I like a bit of dirtiness, a bit of funky.
SPEAKER_05I t I think I could I could spend all day on that. Yeah and he probably will. Well we've got other things to try first. True, true. Someone said anyone used Arebus Hops. Um someone a guy called Beer Sucks said uh yep. Worked well with Alora, used in equal amounts in WHP and dry hop with anchovies. Anchevies? I don't know. Maybe that's another. My Reddit's fucked. Have no notes because it was for a company party, but the non-beer drinking people liked it. The non-beer drinking people liked it. This is called the brewery. This is a little brewer's uh subreddit. So shout out to them.
SPEAKER_03Have you ever been on the brewer's subreddit before?
SPEAKER_05No, I only go on there for porn.
SPEAKER_04Are they are they? Is that what is that what you mean by stacks and substacks and all that sort of stuff? Yeah, substacks? Yeah. What do you mean?
SPEAKER_05Substack is a different thing. Is it? That's like a blogging thing.
SPEAKER_03You have subreddits.
SPEAKER_04So yeah. Is it is it's good. Are we going off topic if we start explaining this?
SPEAKER_05Because maybe maybe Substack is a website. So that's just the thing, and Reddit is a website. And then within Reddit you have subreddits, which are basically just like so Stack is a website. No, Substack is a brand. It's a website. Ah, okay. Yeah. Okay, so you have a sub Substack?
SPEAKER_04No, no, no, no, I've just had it rever I've had it described as a Substack.
SPEAKER_05Oh, okay. It might be a thing in like I don't know.
SPEAKER_04It doesn't really matter. Substack is a web stack.
SPEAKER_05If you're under 30 and listening to the website, Substack is an American online platform that provides publishing payment analytics and design infrastructure support. Subscription based content.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yawn. What's the next beer? Are we doing that? I thought that was that was nice. That was nice. Are we rating these by the way, or are we we put them in a tower? We can't really stack them up, but like not under 72 gallon 72 pint. I was about to say gallon.
SPEAKER_05Actually, I've got a fun little side quest we can do.
SPEAKER_04What's that? Go to co-op.
SPEAKER_01Get some fucking co-op lines.
SPEAKER_04Tomatoes. Eat tomatoes and beef.
SPEAKER_03Reduce tomatoes. We didn't mention that. They're orange labels.
SPEAKER_04That killed two one birds with one stone if you had a beef tomato. Oh.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, well that's why I've got them, because you have beef tomato. That's not why you got them, is it?
SPEAKER_04Of course it's got them because they got yellow labels on them.
SPEAKER_05I've got them because later on I'm trying to have fine healthy snacks. Yeah, but you'll end up in the kebab later. That's what I don't want to happen. This is part of the reason why I don't want to buy that's why I bought them. So I can go home and just have tomato with salt on it. Yeah, fair. Or watching a documentary about some sort of war. Yeah, fair. I haven't decided which one yet. That is enough of it. I just finished once upon a time in Northern Ireland last night. That was five five hours. Oh wow. Yeah, well it was it was a it was a really eye-opening experience actually, and I think that we should delete the podcast that we did before. Oh really? St.
SPEAKER_04Patrick's Day one.
SPEAKER_05Oh really? Is it that bad? No, it's not that bad. Oh no. No, I think we didn't. It would have been that bad if I hadn't cut all the. So it I'll go and untapped and find the beers. Yeah. And then you can guess what the untapped score is. Okay. Okay. What was it called again?
SPEAKER_04Uh End of Chaos. Get your list out. Right, while Max is doing that, shall I shake the dice again? Yeah. Give it give it another go, Pete. Can I get it near the mic?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Get a nice little sample. Oh my god. Really loud. But I'll be That's brilliant, that is. That's a solid. Number six. We need a drum roll, really. It's rigged. I'm not mad about that. I'm quite happy about that. Number six.
SPEAKER_04I'm happy for everything. Number six. Which is um one for the team. One for the team.
SPEAKER_05Oh, I like this. Um lovely purple. End of chaos. Untapped score, what do you think?
SPEAKER_03What's our five again? It's out of five, yeah. I don't know. Three point nine. People are so harsh on untapped, it's bollocks. I reckon like three point three.
SPEAKER_05Well, it's three point six seven.
SPEAKER_03Are you joking?
SPEAKER_06No, I'm not joking. 3.67.
SPEAKER_03We split the difference. Oh, what do you say, 3.9? Well, there you go.
SPEAKER_04So we might have to wait a little while for number six to appear. Customers have appeared. How's your dog bite, Ash?
SPEAKER_03Oh is healing over. I'm I don't know if I'm gonna have a scar or not.
SPEAKER_05No more barking. Oh my god, I've got a barking story. Actually, I forgot to be able to do that. You went to barking.
SPEAKER_03Link Mad Ping from barking. 7am in the morning.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, um, so I went to Belfast over the weekend. Yeah. And we were staying in a really lovely, massive uh Airbnb in the middle of the countryside, which was like ten of us. Wow. Um I didn't know you knew ten people. The house was so big that we in the evening we played, we decided to spa after a few drinks. Manhunt. We decided to play hide and seek.
SPEAKER_03Nice.
SPEAKER_05Um actually I can't tell this story.
SPEAKER_03Were you all naked?
SPEAKER_05No. But why can't you tell the story? Were you doing drugs? Um no, I just didn't sleep.
SPEAKER_03Why can't you tell the story?
SPEAKER_05Because well, basically I'll tell you.
SPEAKER_04Shall I just um interject while you carry on with the listeners?
SPEAKER_01Hello, Sharon.
SPEAKER_03Apparently he's gonna tell me something that they can't hear. Yeah, what the fuck?
SPEAKER_04So we the dice has decided we're gonna have number six.
SPEAKER_05At one point I was pretending to be um when fight trying to find people, I was pretending to be an SS commander. Of course you were. I was walking around the house going like, come out now, and then a German accent. Like I had a pack of German ship. And everyone was like, What the fuck? There's dogs in here.
SPEAKER_03And I'm like, come out now! It's like this place have neighbours. No, it was in the middle of the countryside. That's good. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Anyway, I'm gonna have to cut all of that out.
SPEAKER_04It is No It is beautiful in the north of Ireland, isn't it?
SPEAKER_03Is that your first time going to Ireland?
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Uh no, I've been to Ireland before when I was younger to see my grandma, but um Not Northern Ireland. Not Northern Ireland, no.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Do you have to go into Ireland first before you get to Northern Ireland?
SPEAKER_05No, we flew straight from Bristol to Irel to Belfast, and you don't even have to show your passport or anything. No. Oh really?
SPEAKER_04It's an internal flight. Yeah. It's the step on the.
SPEAKER_03So where did you fly to? Belfast International.
SPEAKER_05Alder Grove Airport.
SPEAKER_03So what and you don't have to show your passport for that from Bristol? No.
SPEAKER_05You just get on, it's like a bus. Well they they they must show you the passport or check-in. Wait, which one's part of the UK? Literally just we just had to show boarding passes, that was it. Yeah?
SPEAKER_03Which one's part of the UK? Normally, yeah, yeah. That's why it works. Yeah. Okay. We probably shouldn't go into I've got more questions, but beer's arrived.
SPEAKER_05I've been doing so much history on the whole subject for the last week. Nice. Nice. I feel like I'm not sure. Well, whilst you were there or just Well, a bit of both really. Because everyone there was sort of like not interested in the troubles. And I was like, Did you know a lot of history happening?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but that was like you when we went to Budapest.
SPEAKER_05So I made everyone go to like the Peace Walls and Shankill Road and stuff. Yeah. And they were like, Why are we here? And I was like, Oh. Culture. It's kind of crazy what happened here. And then you went into it.
SPEAKER_03And then the evening.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and then everyone just started yawning and going on their phone.
SPEAKER_04Fucking hell, man. Anyway, 2026. Beers have arrived. This is number six. One for the team from Arbor Alex. Um, what were we looking at? Chat Arbor Alex, by the way, very generous, lovely people. Oh yeah, well, we're gonna talk about East Bristol Brewery Tower. Because whilst he was pretending to be a German border guard we were You're gonna have to beep for that.
SPEAKER_05They're not necessarily a Nazi, just a German guard.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I just said German border guard.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Okay. We were we were going round the brewers of East Bristol, more of which after Arbor Alex won for the tea.
SPEAKER_03I've got a funny hot take about that whole thing, by the way.
SPEAKER_04It smells very good. It's in the office, just saying. Available in cans in the offy. In pint cans. Yeah. We couldn't go an episode without talking about cans, could we? No, get your cans out.
SPEAKER_00It arrived today from Arbour. They delivered to us today, and it is available in pint cans in the office.
SPEAKER_03What colour are they?
SPEAKER_00What colour are the cans?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, do you know? Because they're usually like a two-tone, aren't they, with Arbor?
SPEAKER_00They are. I think they're a dark colour. Is it red and blue?
SPEAKER_03Is it red and blue? I reckon it's probably red and blue, but it looks like. Red and blue. What do you mean it used to be? I like the purple and yellow one because it looks like LA Lakers. Anyway. Anyway. Rest in peace, go be bright. Why do you care about the Lakers? They were my team. Fucking glory hunter. No, because they've never won anything back when I supported them. Now they got they didn't have LeBron James back then. Oh, that's nice. LeBron James! Always sad. That's lovely.
SPEAKER_04Oh, that's nice, yeah. Yeah, I like that. That's insane. To be fair, um, I know I have a pick of the week this week. To be fair, though. But I if I had six more very close second stars, I could have I could have plastered them on any one of these beers.
SPEAKER_00I'll print you some more out tomorrow, Pete.
SPEAKER_03That's really, really, really good. Thank you. What I'm saying is though, if I was could if I'm comparing that to the the Bristol Beer Factory one we just had, that's amazing. To be that guy.
SPEAKER_05I think they're they're different.
SPEAKER_04I think I prefer the first one.
SPEAKER_01What the fuck?
SPEAKER_05This one tastes like juice.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Which hasn't which hasn't been on the uh school run. Yeah. The athletics. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Do you want to know what I said about it? Straight out of the tap. Uh number six. Number six one for the team. It's citrus lead, a smooth IPA. Yeah. That's what I said.
SPEAKER_00I think that's about right. What did the brewer say?
SPEAKER_04What did the brewer say? He said, or they said, sorry, I don't want to gender the brewer.
SPEAKER_05Uh it's probably a bloke though, innit?
SPEAKER_04Arborells Bristol, IPA, session IPA with Citra, Mosaic, Talus, and Idaho 7. Idaho. That sounds like 1960s cowboy film. Idaho 7. Why haven't I heard of that before?
SPEAKER_03Just from the hearts.
SPEAKER_06Idaho 7.
SPEAKER_03It's Idaho State.
SPEAKER_00Am I giving you enough?
SPEAKER_03I reckon I could do a bit more. I don't want to be that guy.
SPEAKER_00You're always that guy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, can we go double on that one? No. Oh, okay. We've got four more. Pete's thinking of profit.
SPEAKER_04No, because we can get the um you can have it back in the what are we drinking section.
SPEAKER_03Ah, true, true, true.
SPEAKER_04That's very true. Well, no, we're going to regale ourselves with some funny stories. Here we go. Um you entered this is where you put the music.
SPEAKER_05I haven't got any more funny stories. Who's telling the funny story?
SPEAKER_03Well, no, we're going to talk about Easter. Okay, cool. Yeah, you're you were you you were invited, but you weren't involved. Yeah, well, it's gonna be like my birthday party, isn't it? Oh no.
SPEAKER_05No, I actually really want to come to that because it's got that smoke van.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Well he was. A neighbouring arbour on Saturday. And and how good did that look? Yeah, really good. Did you not have any?
SPEAKER_03We went, I had a bit of the vegan stuff, but I was saving myself for um Left Handed Giant, which I did. Do you have a pizza? No. What did you have? Fried chicken.
SPEAKER_05Uh uh.
SPEAKER_04One of our yeah, I had the fried chicken. Yeah. Um it was really nice. One of our number had a pizza at pretty much every place, didn't he?
SPEAKER_03Who's that?
SPEAKER_04Oh Big Pete.
SPEAKER_03I don't know. I weren't I don't think I was paying much attention to anyone else.
SPEAKER_04Every time I looked around, he wasn't eating pizza.
SPEAKER_03Fair, yeah. Yeah, nice. There was a lot of good food on our side. Oh, Big Pete. Right, so so I don't know if we've explicitly said it too much, but so last Saturday, last Saturday was it? Last Saturday, yeah. Yeah. Uh no, it wasn't last Saturday, it was Saturday before. Wow. I'm still I've still got a hangover from two weeks ago. It was the uh the East Bristol Brewery Trail. And do you want to know something actually mad? Yeah. I didn't realise it was like an actual event until I got there.
SPEAKER_05What you thought it was just Etsom?
SPEAKER_03What do you did? I thought it was just an Etsom thing. And then we got to Arbo and there was people queuing up. I was like, fuck me, it's busy here. Does everyone just come out on a Saturday just to go to Arbour at like 12 o'clock or whatever time we got?
SPEAKER_04Had you no idea?
SPEAKER_03Had no idea it was like that official. Yeah, it's like a big thing. So I was pleasantly surprised with like with the uh I guess the production value.
SPEAKER_04If that's what you want to call it. So um should we do one or two breweries, then I'll be drinking and then yeah, yeah, sure.
SPEAKER_03So where so where did we start, Pete? Arbor. Well now we started in here. Oh, we had a bacon sandwich in here. Bacon tiny. Bacon tiny and breakfast out. Breakfast out. Okay. It like ten in the morning, wasn't it? Jesus.
SPEAKER_00At 7.4%.
SPEAKER_05Do you know what did you have mayonnaise? Mayonnaise from Arbor Alex as well, isn't it? Sharon, did you have mayo on your bacon sandwich?
SPEAKER_00I did not. Who does I remember he bought sauces, he didn't buy mayonnaise.
SPEAKER_05I remember last year when we went on the East Bristol Brewery Trail, you had mayo on your bacon sandwich.
SPEAKER_00Well, I would always have mayonnaise, but Pete neglected to bring the mayonnaise. Do you know what though?
SPEAKER_05And I couldn't get it out of my head for like six months. Every time I ate bacon, I was like, I might try this with mayo, but I don't want to ruin it.
SPEAKER_03Oh no, but initially I was just like, what the fuck? But then if you look at the a chicken and bacon salad or like anything cold bacon, mayo, you'd have mayo. But then like a bacon sandwich with a hot bacon.
SPEAKER_05Ketchup or brown sauce on a bacon sandwich. Brown sauce, brown sauce, brown sauce.
SPEAKER_00I asked for uh mayonnaise in Burns of Bread and they all looked at me like I was mad.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, you're banned now, aren't you? I know them all by name in burns of bread. Yeah, they're great people.
SPEAKER_05I used to love a burn salad chicken salad bat for lunch. Oh ham salad for me there. So you had a pint of breakfast out, so it started a sandwich in here, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then we got on a very nice minibus.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Shout out who I thought I got text saying your drive your driver tomorrow is Jason. Oh yeah. And he got off the bus. I goes, alright, Jason. And he goes, I thought it was Jordan.
SPEAKER_03It was Jordan, because Jordan and Jason says his name's Norman.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and then he goes, uh he goes, No, it's Norman. Oh. Yeah. Although do you think he's gonna listen to the podcast? Because I'm gonna say something.
SPEAKER_03The d the the sat nav. Oh yeah, all of it. What happened? He well, initially like for a professional driver, he didn't have a phone mount, but he was using that as his sat nav. So he had it like just fucking rested against the between the dashboard and the the windscreen. Okay. But also, um I reckon he he needed a prescription to drive, but he didn't have his glasses on him.
SPEAKER_04No, no, I think he was long-sighted, he could see a long way away. He just couldn't see up. He just couldn't see up close.
SPEAKER_05He was just squinting the whole time.
SPEAKER_04So he had his glasses on his head all the time. Right. They were obviously such a good prescription for short that you can't see anything far away. Okay. So he had the volume on the sat nav through the roof. Graham. Graham hated it. He hated it.
SPEAKER_03He was fucking heckling there.
SPEAKER_05We've got a whole team, Graham, for ages.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, I had a we'll get on to it later on, but I had a big discussion with him on the way home. It got political, yeah. Oh god. Yeah, do not get political with Graham. We'll get to that when we work through the breweries we went to, but we'll do the first two. So anyway, so lovely Norman, which is not Jordan. Turn left. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04In 500 yards, turn right. Okay.
SPEAKER_03But it was a it was the bougiest minibus I've ever been on.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but not when you got a minibus full of people in intent on bents.
SPEAKER_05From here to Bristol as well, it's like you probably should know that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. They had leather seats and they were like the lattice stitched leather seats. Do you know what I mean by that? Uh sort of. Like the diamond shape anyway, and they had USB C sockets on USB. Oh, you see you're not complaining. No, the fucking minibus was fancy, fanciest thing I've ever seen. I'm surprised they didn't have a screen to put your. I'm surprised it didn't have champagne that popped out in a fucking starry ceiling. Like a bloody linen.
SPEAKER_05They have USB ports on the 376 sometimes. Yeah, but USB C. Not all the times. Not all the time, to be fair. Some of the times they're some older bus.
SPEAKER_03You're so obsessed with that bus.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, well, we've got to represent a set.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So anyway, so we arrive at Arbor. Yeah. I'm like, okay, fuck me. Like, do people just turn over here? I didn't realise it was a whole event. I was like, oh, there's food and everything. Proper, you know. I obviously learnt quite quickly when I saw the beer mats that the East Bristol Brewery Trail is a rival. Again, this really doesn't work on podcast, but Peach has picked one up. We'll get to that. We'll talk through it. But yeah, Arba did a an amazing job of hosting us for our first um stop. I think we had three pints there.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, because because we were very well looked out by shouting out at Arbour, Sharon. What was that girl's name?
SPEAKER_00Ginny.
SPEAKER_04She was lovely. Ginny. I was gonna say Ginny, but I didn't want to get it wrong. Shout out to Ginny.
SPEAKER_00Ginny came out with some wristbands, which was very lovely of her.
SPEAKER_03We might not be able to include that. But yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04We we were well looked after, I think, is the Why why did you get wristbands? Free beer. Why?
SPEAKER_05Because Fatnos.
SPEAKER_04Because we're customers.
SPEAKER_05So everyone got wristbands.
SPEAKER_04No, because we're customers.
SPEAKER_05Oh I see, but it's not yeah, because it's not a trade thing, is it? Yeah. Yeah. It's a public thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I guess you could say it. Well, I'm just so used to going to all these trade days.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's what it felt like there.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And the only reason you get to go on these trade days is because I always invite you.
SPEAKER_03Thanks, Sharon. Yeah, you don't even fucking work for him anymore.
SPEAKER_04Well he's general manager. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Ah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, true. Have you seen his Indeed? Head editor. Indeed, no, it's um Head editor then. LinkedIn. LinkedIn. Social media manager now.
SPEAKER_03LinkedIn, not Indeed, sorry.
SPEAKER_04Right, um, before we move on to the next one.
SPEAKER_03Are we not gonna do two at a time?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but I'll shake the dice. Oh, okay. So we can get right up.
SPEAKER_03But we had three beers then. I was sort of only expecting around one at each. We have rubber bingy rapids. It's number two, they didn't have it on. They didn't even have breakfast out on actually.
SPEAKER_04They did. Did they?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Oh. On cask. Number two. Beer number two. I missed that, my bad. What's number two then?
SPEAKER_03So do you know what you had there?
SPEAKER_04Mutawica.
SPEAKER_03From Arbor, appropriately. From Arbo. I do know what I had. I had an Everyday People. That was second. The first point we had was what? Yeah. I had Shangri's. Yeah, we had a we yeah. We had one Shangri-La to start, an Everyday People, then I had the Sour, which was can't remember what the fuck it was called.
SPEAKER_05I don't know if I've ever had an Arbor Sour.
SPEAKER_03Do you remember what it was called? Frambo, it's called. Oh yeah. Um that was that was really nice. Um but yeah. I would say my favourite pint there was the everyday people, yeah.
SPEAKER_05You had a pint of sour? Yeah. Fucking hell.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was quite a lot. But it was nice. Yeah, I enjoyed it.
SPEAKER_04So, um we left there. Uh oh, we had a lot of food there as well. People ate.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. We I had a little bit of food there. I think I just had a bit of showering.
SPEAKER_04Because the people well, I I don't know if the listeners want to know, but Lil Smoker in Bristol can highly recommend.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So you had like beef brisket?
SPEAKER_04I didn't. No.
SPEAKER_03I had the vegan thing there. The vegan like satan.
SPEAKER_04No, it's fame on the brain. Oh god.
SPEAKER_03What's the beef? It's called Satan.
SPEAKER_04Satan. Yeah, like some sort of get thee behind me, Satan.
SPEAKER_03Um, so that was like a it was really nice, it was very well seasoned.
SPEAKER_05East Asian like with peanuts in.
SPEAKER_03What? No, it's a protein. That's satay. Uh we did Google it when we were there, didn't we?
SPEAKER_00It's uh like some sort of protein flour. Yes, and lots of herbs and seasoning. Like KFC 11 secret herbs.
SPEAKER_03Deep fried.
SPEAKER_00That sounds pretty good. It's beautiful.
SPEAKER_04It is really nice. If you if you can be bothered to come to my party, you'll be happy to try some out. Well, I'll have the brisket.
SPEAKER_03Um so yeah, so that was um that was Armour. Made of gluten. Yeah. And then we um lovely weather at Arbour as well, which it didn't didn't end up being for the for the rest of the day. No. But it was so sunny, it was so nice, and you know take your jacket off, enjoy the sun.
SPEAKER_04Whoa. And then we walked down to um and another member of the Etson family joined us there. Shout out Natasha. Shout out Tasha.
SPEAKER_06Boo.
SPEAKER_03Why are you booing it?
SPEAKER_04Why you booing it up? Don't boo your top, don't ever do that. Don't upset the landlady.
SPEAKER_03Where do we go next? Was it wiper and true next?
SPEAKER_06I'm joking. Wiper and true is the next one, wasn't it? Wiper and true, yeah.
SPEAKER_04What's that got to do with Tash? Well no, Claire Sharon did say that Tash was like another daughter. Yeah. Yeah. I'd high five Tash as well.
SPEAKER_03So next next we walked, this is gonna take fucking ages. There's seven breweries, and we're just waffling. Wiper and True next. Next we walked down to Wiper and True, and we had the only cask on that they had there. We actually went Cass there, didn't we? Endless love. For the first one.
unknownThank you.
SPEAKER_03I can't remember. No, it's called Sunset something. Stop talking about this. Wasn't it? I wish we wrote this down. This is why I should have been there. We should have wrote you wouldn't have written it down though. I would have remembered. Yeah. Anyway, it was I mean, I mean, Wiper and True, lovely place. Again, really nice weather. There was loads of people there. They were busy at Wiper and True. The queue was bigger. No, I was sniffing it.
SPEAKER_05I really want to drink it there. Yeah, I really want to do it. Sorry.
SPEAKER_03I didn't realise how massive Wiper and True was. It's a big place, isn't it? Yeah, but it's like it's really clean looking as well. Yeah, it's cool there. And they got like then when you see their like their um I've only been there when we went ferment fermentation chambers. On the thing last time.
SPEAKER_04Tons. Yeah, yeah. The mash drums. Mash dogs. We did we went mad on this last episode.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Mash tons.
SPEAKER_03Um it's a very impressive place. The bar was really nice. They had food there also, but I didn't indulge. And they had nice tables. But uh they got um they had uh multi-gender toilets. Great. Hang on.
SPEAKER_00The best thing about the toilets is they had where the cistern was, they had a sink. To place it. No, so when you flushed, no, when water came out of the sink. No, no, the water that you use to wash your hands afterwards got recycled for the next flush. And behind behind the sink were the soap and I don't know how I feel about that.
SPEAKER_03Well it's that how is that? I just went into the urinals. So, like I was gonna say, these like what did you name pictures in the toilets? Fuck me. What I meant the gender neutral toilets, there was still a separate urinal room, so it kind of defeated the point a bit. Graham loved them. We loved them. Yeah, he was talking about it the whole way up. My favourite toilet.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's a little bit, yeah. A little bit. Right, are we going to uh clink and drink? Yeah, we better.
SPEAKER_05Yes, please. I'm dining at first.
SPEAKER_03Time's getting on.
SPEAKER_06Oh, I see. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah. Well you can taste the strength, can't you?
SPEAKER_03That's lovely that Which one's this one again? Oh of course, yeah.
SPEAKER_05You won't get picked up.
SPEAKER_03I've had a pint of this. I would say this is this is better than the last arbor. It's better than one for the team, I'm not.
SPEAKER_05They had them in Broodogger in um thingy.
SPEAKER_00Sustainability and action, Max, that's what that is.
SPEAKER_04Fuck that. On behalf of the Etsom Arms management team, we do not want to fucking I've got very committed to developing a sustainable business.
SPEAKER_03If someone's got really dirty hands, yeah, like they've been like changing a gearbox on a car and then nipping for a pint. Yeah, and then like does that then go into the toilet and then you like take a shit and a bit splashes up and now you've got oil. No, but what I'm saying is I don't know how much oil have they got on their hands? Well, too much for my asshole. I don't know. Like You're putting Max off his hula hoops. No, but you know what I mean? I understand the the process, but like I don't think it would be a problem. What are the rules behind a system? I don't think there's no rules. No, there's not. There's no cistern management.
SPEAKER_04Anyway, should we talk about the Motowaker?
SPEAKER_03What were you thinking? Um this is amazing, yeah. This is the best one we've had so far. It's better than the last album we had, even though it's um less strong. That was very good in terms of ABV. It's 0.5, it's only 4%. Um but I feel like it just tastes like beer.
SPEAKER_04I bro, it's a smooth citrus blend. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Blend?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Blend of what? Citrus flavours. Yeah. That are smooth.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. That'll make sense. No, it does, it does. But I also feel it's well balanced. Yeah. It's not too sharp on the citrus front. And it's definitely like not overly hoppy, which is lovely.
SPEAKER_04And it's only four per cent, so you can drink a truckload of it. I think it's a great bit.
SPEAKER_05Do not drink a truckload of it and drive a truck.
SPEAKER_04Obviously not.
SPEAKER_03Who said about driving the truck?
SPEAKER_04Uh so what do the good people at Arbor Ale say about it? It's a gluten-free pail, single hopped, gluten-free pale ale, giving flavours of lime and tropical fruit. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the lime's really nice. It's fresh. It tastes like it does, it's like a larger lime top, but in beer form. That used to be my go-to drink back in the day. What lager would you got? Fucking whatever it was. Carlin. Carlin with lime in it. Doesn't matter what the beer is if you if you have enough cordial. Um I used to like that. And actually, I think it was Carlin that actually bought out the bottles that already had it added to it. And I used to drink a lot of those.
SPEAKER_04Oh, there was a wasn't didn't Fosters do some lime. Yeah, they had a lot of things.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was Foster's then. It wasn't a shandy, it was still full strength lager, but with the lime flavour they already added.
SPEAKER_04It was oh, I forget what it was. I haven't got Google.
SPEAKER_03I've only just thought of that. That's brought up a sort of vivid memory. Foster's with lime in. Or anything with lime in, too, did it?
SPEAKER_05Foster's Lyme.
SPEAKER_03But I mean I've always been like a big fan of the whole like Corona or like a fucking Desperados.
SPEAKER_05Ten years ago, Foster's released Radler, Lime, and it wasn't called Radler.
SPEAKER_03I reckon it was a Carlin.
unknownCarling Lime.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but get on the Google again.
SPEAKER_05Carling Lime. Uh it's called Radler. Is it called Radler? They did a cider.
SPEAKER_03No, it wasn't a cider. Zest Lime. Yeah, it was called Zest. Hang on. It was like Carling Zest. It was 2.8% though. What the hell? That's why that's why I took it to school. They didn't like it at high taste, did they?
SPEAKER_05Carling zest.
SPEAKER_03There were no way it was at only 2.4%.
SPEAKER_05Just what it says here, man.
SPEAKER_03It got me fucked up enough. Can I see the bottle?
SPEAKER_05I can't really sound it right now.
SPEAKER_03Let me come round.
SPEAKER_04Ashley's just leaning across.
unknownThat's not what the bottle. Oh yeah, it is.
SPEAKER_04Fucking get you buzzballs, these days.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, shout out buzzballs. That's the that's the dangerous thing though, because buzzballs are well fucking strong. And that's like the the trendy drink. People people aren't drinking hoot hooch anymore. Nah, but people people used to just drink bottles of vodka. I love hooch. I used to love it hooch at the time.
SPEAKER_04I think people still do drink bottles of hooch.
SPEAKER_05No, but I remember when I was like 17, people wouldn't have like a bottle of water. Water. A bottle of vodka.
SPEAKER_03I used to get I used to take a bottle of vodka and uh a fucking bottle of cranberry juice to a house party. Yeah. George got um grounded on a skiing trip for um shoving vodka up his ass.
SPEAKER_04No bott bottle of water that a bottle of vodka had a bottle of vodka, poured it into a capped it into water. Ah busted class.
SPEAKER_03Did they sniff it?
SPEAKER_04I don't know what the uh the relevant relevant educator did.
SPEAKER_03That is nicknamed that is nicked vata.
SPEAKER_04Right, shall we jake again?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Where have we got to on the East Bristol Brewery Trail? Anyway, White Run Drew. We're two down. Yeah. And then we went to left-handed giant. Was that the next one? Which was a delight, left-handed giant.
SPEAKER_03I'd never been there before. That was also fuck fuck me busy though. Yeah. I would say that I'd be like, number one! Yeah, the actual brewery. Which I didn't even realise was a thing. Yeah. I in the back of my mind I thought they did it all on the side of the canal river. No.
unknownWhat number was it?
SPEAKER_03Beer number one. Number one, please. Oh, that's a good one as well. Well, if we get a double, do we have do we still have it? No, we roll again. No, what we do, we have it, we have to neck it.
SPEAKER_06It's like ring of fire or something. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03We have to do a different rule every time. We have to neck it and then roll again. That should be the rule. So left-handed giant, did we use We should do one episode where we just try and get as fucked up as possible to the point where we can't pack up anymore. We've never tried that before, have we? No, but I feel like we've never put it in the world.
SPEAKER_05We should do the two tramp lager review episode. Just get all of them, like Kestrel, Special Crew.
SPEAKER_03And then we should also do like a white lightning uh tidem.
SPEAKER_06Frosty Jacks. Is it scrumpy or sugar?
SPEAKER_03Frosty Jacks or Petrol.
SPEAKER_04Oh, um, before we move on, new beers have arrived. Thank you very much, Sharon. Thank you, Sharon.
SPEAKER_03Did we do the untapped score for no we're not been keeping up with that? We should do that for the last one. It's the first one we did. We've done number one. I thought we did three point six seven, didn't we?
SPEAKER_05I've got one for the team up on here.
SPEAKER_03Okay, yeah. We need to guess that one then. We already did that.
SPEAKER_05Because it was three point six seven.
SPEAKER_03That was the first one.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that was the um End of Chaos. Three point six seven. This one's three point six seven as well. Oh fuck me.
SPEAKER_04They're all gonna be three point six seven, I think it's all rigged. What do you think the Moto Waker is? Motowaker three point four point one. We got a whole Bristol puff number four.
SPEAKER_05Three point nine.
unknownUm so they're all delicious.
SPEAKER_05Three point five nine.
SPEAKER_04That's lower. It is lower than the three point six seven. I think we I I think I've overestimated it. Please. So left-handed jar. We liked it, don't we? Yeah, but it was busy though. Busy. Yeah, they're all busy.
SPEAKER_03No, I don't know if they were. Not like that though. That's a big space with a lot of people. Um I had food there last year. We had food there. How many did we have two pints there or just one? I only had two. I can't remember going to the bar that much, to be honest. I think we got people to get them for us. I just remember being handed beer. Did you have a table? No, not there. That's what I mean, busy. Stood up business. Yeah, I was stood up. I I don't I forgot her name, but I'd never met before. But there was a thing it was um whoever I can't remember their names either. Someone's friend.
SPEAKER_05What?
SPEAKER_03Who David Joanna? David Joanna's friend. David Joanna's friend held my beer whilst I was um eating my my chicken burger. Right. Thank you very much for to her. Sorry I don't know your name, but and I felt really bad. I was like, you sure you're right holding that?
SPEAKER_06As I was like, what did you have?
SPEAKER_03I had a like a spicy ass Korean style chicken burger or something. Wait. With some waffle fries. It was well knocked. I feel like I might have had that from when I was there last year. W what were they called? Her manios? Were they like uh Los Poyos? Los Poyas. Something like that. From Breaking Bad. Yeah, that's what I say. So um yeah, so that was really, really nice. Um the beer was obviously great. Um and we got uh we got a lovely stamp. So what we didn't mention earlier was um at the very first stop, they had um beer mats, coasters, beer mats, with um all the logos of the breweries on the trail. And then as you go around, you could get a little stamp. Yeah. So um yeah, the first three uh that we mentioned, lovely little branded stamp on all of those. We'll get to the others. I've still got mine somewhere at home from last year. I've still I think mine's still in my coat pocket. I was gonna bring it tonight, but luckily, Sharon has saved her one and had it on display in the bar, which is lovely.
SPEAKER_05So you didn't get anything for getting all the six stamps, did you?
SPEAKER_04Seven, just the armor.
SPEAKER_05It was only six last year, because that this is the one I'm most interested in hearing about. There's a new brewery on that trail. Oh well, you'll have to wait.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you have to wait until we get there.
SPEAKER_04We got two more and then we get to that.
SPEAKER_03Wait, so before we try this beer, we'll do the next the next brewery then, right? Yeah, get on. Do you remember what it was? It was good.
SPEAKER_04It was a chemistry. I was good. So you walk down France. That's when it started raining. Yeah, well across the well, across the canal? Well, it's not a canal, it's the old railway line. I think I was like six points deep at this point. I was across the old railway line, which is now a cycle path, and you go into the back end of the industrial estate, and there's good chemistry, and it had down a dodgy alleyway. It had absolutely started hooling down by then. So you know you know small good chemistry is not a big building. No, everyone got in there. How many of you were there? Ten. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Okay. But I was I was saying to Pete earlier, this whole day, over the last couple weeks since the date, my brain has just been drip feeding me memories of like, oh yeah, that happened. Oh yeah, that happened. Just because of sort of like Did you get fucking amnesia?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I don't know, yeah. Someone spiked me.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, what I don't know, but uh, I definitely didn't remember it like for a couple days after. It's kind of mad. Jesus.
SPEAKER_04Good times were had.
SPEAKER_03It's a good, good, good. But it's all coming back. So good chemistry. I didn't rate it very much, the beer. No. There. Or the atmosphere. I don't know. It's obviously not there far well as well.
SPEAKER_04Nah, nah. Yeah, they had a DJ above the bar, didn't they?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but it was it just it wasn't a very good vibe in there compared to the others.
SPEAKER_04And the beer's not as good as the others. We've been drinking some cracking beers, and yeah, we get nothing against good chemistry, but it's all it's all very brown, isn't it?
SPEAKER_03I've had a good beer in a can from them before though. Yeah. But only one. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um I don't know what they do so much anymore. I I remember them back a few years ago.
SPEAKER_03But we and there was a massive queue, and we sort of like the whole queuing system was a bit weird everywhere. I don't think we pushed in this time. No, no, we didn't push in, we didn't push in, but it like bar culture of just like going up to a bar. Yeah. So we sort of went up to a bar, but all these Bristol lot were just like queuing out, queuing like single file into the rain. And I we got in and we're just like, well, you can then some guy just served us, and we were like, alright then. So they're the the first they're the first um culprate on on our little stamp thing. I'm gonna be petty because why not? They had a different coloured stamp, they didn't have a black stamp like everyone else. They had an orange stamp, and it was just a bit didn't look very good.
SPEAKER_05That's the reason why you didn't like 'em.
SPEAKER_03No, no, no, no, no, no. No, I did I did like them. I enjoyed it. It was good. It was nice it was, you know. It was just wasn't as good as the others. Okay. It was a bit dark in there, it was just so I just feel like the the the premises for this thing maybe wasn't as suitable.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I think that's a very true. Because like there was no there was no like. Because even when it was beautiful sunshine, you're all out in the road and they've still got those big urinals out in the road, haven't they? I don't remember that. Did they recycle the water? No, they're just they're big things that you just sit round you stand round.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they had they had the urinals up the stairs and then they had the hand wash station underneath.
SPEAKER_04Anyway, when uh number one has appeared, which is number one.
SPEAKER_03I've just taken a sip of it. Yeah, I'm dying of thirst over it.
SPEAKER_04But we all know T Joss, don't we? It's been a regular in the pub.
SPEAKER_03It has been a regular is a regular in quite a few places locally as well. It's a really um Glass and Reader Crown have it quite a lot um in their subsequent bars, the mitre and stuff like that. Yeah. But they all have it on keg, but I think it almost it shines differently in cask. Yeah, I think it's good that they still do it in cask. Because I think some some keg beers is like nice because it's cold and refreshing and all that, but I think you get a different flavour.
SPEAKER_05It's definitely a different flavour from the from the coldness.
SPEAKER_03No, but I don't know if it's just from the coldness or from how it's kept or what what they do to it to to prepare it for cask or keg. You know?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But um I I've always really really enjoyed it when I've had it here on cask. And then to have it on keg is just like, oh yeah, I know that, but it's it just seems a bit a bit too not carbonated, yeah. But like yeah. Whereas it's nicer as like a flatter tradition, traditional straight out of the cabinet. Should we go for it then?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, oh no, there's clink. Let's have a clink. Yeah, great. You can't beat T Jos.
SPEAKER_05It's nice. I don't really go. Actually, compared to the other ones we've had though, I'm not that's my least favourite, I think, so far.
SPEAKER_03I'd I'd maybe put it second.
SPEAKER_05I think one for the T Just.
SPEAKER_04What I did notice when I drank them all is how bitter there is a bitter finish. 100%, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. A bitter finish to that, which you don't really notice when you drink it in isolation. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's also darker than I remember. I would say. I thought it was like slightly more pale. I know it's described as a pale, but it is quite like a uh like a I haven't drank all day peace colour. Oh lovely. It's like what I wash my hands with outside good chemistry. Lovely enough.
SPEAKER_04So I said it was a hoppy citrus citrus balanced hoppy citrus balance, meaning that the citrus was well balanced. Yeah, you love a balanced citrus, don't you? Yeah, I know. Um and it's a slight bitter edge.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it definitely has a bitter edge.
SPEAKER_03But I kind of like that. It's kind of like a you know.
SPEAKER_05Oh actually, compared to the others though, I think I'm that's that's in last place for me. Really? Yeah. To the others we've had tonight. Fair enough.
SPEAKER_04I'd probably say I mean I I'm probably not agreeing with you on that, but that's a game of opinions. But we're talking about the top 10% here, right? Yeah, these are you know 100% the top 10%.
SPEAKER_03But this is what happens as well. Like, I think we've mentioned Bristol before and how much we rate what what they're doing there. So when you have a Bristol takeover, yeah, it's all about this is like you know, the Premier League of this area.
SPEAKER_05The Premier League, yeah. I think it could be the Premier League of the country.
SPEAKER_03Not to shit on like uh other breweries around here, but I feel like other breweries in terms of consistency they'll have like a a good beer once in a while.
SPEAKER_05I think there's also a healthy competition in Bristol.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they couldn't do this. The more local brewers, the more provincial brewers. It doesn't mean that those guys don't see a banger about it now and then. Yeah, true. Yeah. Do you know what I mean? If you've got all those pubs where there's a market for this in Bristol, you can just bang this stuff out week after week.
SPEAKER_03It's almost like I'd say, like, we we're grateful that Bristol's so close that you can still call it local. Yeah, for someone that sells local beer.
SPEAKER_05Because it's just so different and then I think the fact that they can sell it pretty much anywhere in Bristol means that they are all then competing to make the best.
SPEAKER_03Was there like a national or potentially even global market like Bristol? Well they do you see it much like you. You're yeah, yeah, they don't buy anything because of the that. You're you're a well-travelled man, Max. Do you see on about breweries or did you ever go up to Sheffield and there be a Bristol Beer Factory beer on tap?
SPEAKER_04Uh Bristol Beer Factory, yes.
SPEAKER_05No, well, I can't remember I can't recall seeing anything from Bristol.
SPEAKER_04You said that I think in Sheffield you said you saw a Bristol Beer Factory.
SPEAKER_03It's just interesting because obviously, like with the can game, cans kind of fly out here, there and everywhere. Cans fly quite a bit.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I did see uh um actually like I saw a left-handed giant can in Barnsley last week last week. I can. Yeah, I can. In a fridge in a in like a craft beer place.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I mean I saw not what I asked, but that's kind of like the what I said that I would expect, but I meant like in a pub like on on like on draft. Yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_05Whether it be cask or keg. Dunno. No. Just drank loads of John Smith's.
SPEAKER_03But you do get like a decent amount of Bristol rounds.
SPEAKER_05£2.10 a pint.
SPEAKER_03Like you get Bristol, like I said, you get it in in Glastonbury, you get it in in the fucking halfway, you get it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I reckon I reckon probably the whole of the South I don't know. Because then London has its own scene.
SPEAKER_03But then also then you get like the shittier places. Yeah, but you never seen it.
SPEAKER_04You see a lot of Bristol in London.
SPEAKER_01I don't know, do you?
SPEAKER_04I couldn't say I have.
SPEAKER_03But then there's also the brewery-owned places around here, like the fucking like the globe or whatever, you're never gonna see Bristol in there. Exactly. It's so strange. Yeah. Like, I don't know.
SPEAKER_04But a lot of the the lot of the Bristol brewers don't need to sell to To those big breweries, yeah. Yeah, true. And why would they? Because all they'll get done is screwed on margin, won't they?
SPEAKER_03Do you want which is also what what like to me now defines I see I see uh real ale bars and freehouses as as different things to pubs. I I always feel like fuck me. I'm trying to trying to get deep and deep and personal. Yeah, but like local pubs, no but even if local pubs, even if they are like brewery-owned, right? Then they're just as good as the weather spoon's sometimes. Because all you're gonna get on tap is Heineken, Guinness, Cruz fucking campo. You can do one. I hate that so much. You know what I mean? I know what you mean. Um I know it sells and people love it, and people go out to drink that shit, but like I see it now as two completely maybe more maybe people have have have realized this quicker than I have. But I've just realised in the last maybe year or so, even though I've been drinking here for many years, yeah, that there is a a very big difference between I guess like a free house that can sell whatever they want, or like they're actually passionate about the beer, and then just a pub that's owned by a brewery.
SPEAKER_05Then they go, Oh yeah, we got John Smith's and we got But then I think that's why the micropub and uh tap house became such a big thing.
SPEAKER_03Like, yeah, but is it I don't I don't know if it's like I was gonna say I don't know if it's big enough, but maybe I don't know if it's like people. Yeah, I know uh but that's in Bristol.
SPEAKER_04I meant like you know I mean Oh no, every every major city has its own beer scene, doesn't it? Yeah. So so if you went to Manchester, and Manchester's probably a poor example because it's it it's known for a good craft beer scene.
SPEAKER_03Leeds has got one, Newcastle's got one. Equally though, I can't come in here and get a Newcastle Brown.
SPEAKER_04No, because that's not really a craft beer, is it?
SPEAKER_03No, that's a craft beer. That's what I mean. But sometimes I want a nukey bee, so I have to go to a spoons. Or the Rodney or the rifleman's right, I'm gonna take the dice on that note.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, did they ever do Nuke B on tap?
SPEAKER_04Wait, that's a really good question.
SPEAKER_03I've never seen that.
SPEAKER_04No, it's always bottled. It's always been bottled. Google it. Right, I'm shaking.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Number eight. How weird is this? We're getting. We haven't had a double yet.
SPEAKER_03We haven't had to net one yet. Number eight. Which is Shangers! Fuck me, we've had triple arbor.
unknownShangers!
SPEAKER_03I reckon Arbor have paid you. Nah. No? I will say they're all very similar colours.
SPEAKER_05Very similar colours.
SPEAKER_03Um don't drink with your eyes. Because it all comes out of the River Avon.
SPEAKER_04It all comes from the cistern. Yeah, it's a recycle. Shangers, 4.2% ABV. Would we say this is their their their staple? Their flagship beer.
SPEAKER_00It's a cult classic, isn't it? Smoggish board of 4.2 pales this week. Yeah, yeah. It's very difficult to distinguish between all of them.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00They're all good. They're all really good.
SPEAKER_05There's never been a time where Arbour haven't done Shangers. Is there? By the way, we call it Shangers. Colloquially. It's because it's a lot of effort, saying it's because we're from Summers.
SPEAKER_03I can't remember if I asked for it as Shangers or not. I probably put it out and didn't. Shangers. I think I said I'll have a Shangers. Did he know exactly what you meant? I don't know.
SPEAKER_06He had no pipe.
SPEAKER_05What the fuck happened? You guys just don't remember anything from this day.
SPEAKER_03I'll tell you what, it was fucking wild. It was it was a it was an absolute boozer. What time did you get home? 8 30. Yeah, but I was here until like But you text me saying like what past midnight. What are you doing now? Yeah, I know. I but I and also I said if you heard this song, but and I know that we sat there and watched it together. The 376 song by the Bad Cowboys. Oh yeah yeah. And I read these texts in the morning and I was like, what the fuck?
SPEAKER_04And have you have you smelled this?
SPEAKER_05Wow, fruit.
SPEAKER_04It's a nicer smell. That's a real real nice. A real raw hop. Yeah. You know what I mean? When you Yeah.
SPEAKER_03You like smelling a clink and drink. Clink and drink. It smells like a brewery in the the best way. You know, like when you like it's a hop oil, I think. It's like an enticing smell, which you don't often get with beer.
SPEAKER_04Nice. Oh, hang on, move the stars. I've just got it wrong, I think.
SPEAKER_05That's good.
SPEAKER_04That was really kind of like.
SPEAKER_00So many times. It's always pick of the week easy when we got it all.
SPEAKER_04That is good. It is good, isn't it?
SPEAKER_03With your calling system, is that the first one that it goes into?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, because it's very cold.
SPEAKER_03Uh I've never thought about this.
SPEAKER_04Yes, I think it is.
SPEAKER_03But I never drink number eight.
SPEAKER_04That's good.
SPEAKER_03What is number eight usually? But I I know I know for a fact I never really drink. It'd be a quantok or something. Yeah, so I always go for like a a two. I'll go for like a two, a five. Maybe not a five actually. It's a really good temperature, isn't it? It is really good. Yeah. That's nice.
SPEAKER_05Apparently you can get Nuki Brown on tap in the US. In the US and in Hong Kong. That's a long way to go.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. But that's interesting.
SPEAKER_04Anyway.
SPEAKER_03That's really good. It is. I mean it's Shangers, isn't it? It tastes like Shangers.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, get your sh get your Shangers on.
SPEAKER_03What do um condition wise and the way the way that that's you've served that to me now here at the Etsom Arms. Fucking brilliant. Would you say beautifully presented? Oh, incredibly, yeah. Exceptional.
SPEAKER_04So um I said I this is all I put because also I get bored as I work down this. Yeah, yeah. I just put I just put brilliant beer. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Fair. You're not wrong. But you knew that before you tasted it. Yeah. So is that a bit of a cop-out?
SPEAKER_05I think I taste better than the last it in my mind it tastes better than the last time I had Shangers. That might be top for me now.
SPEAKER_04But the thing is with Shangers, is you can just go back to it all the time. You could just I'm Yeah, it's safe, isn't it?
SPEAKER_03You're right, you like that.
SPEAKER_06I just like how it casual it's become. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03The thing is with Shangers. The thing is with Shangers. They're gonna have to change the name. Yeah, they are gonna have to change the number. Just for the Southwest market. For the for the some for the Somerset market. Oh my god. Imagine if you get a limited edition cam with Shangers written on it. Can we make that happen? Fuck. Can we get we can get a I'll have it for the birthday party? Has anyone got Dinny's numbers? Anyone got Dinny's number?
SPEAKER_04Shangri La from Arbor Alex, Bristol. It's a pail liberally hopped with brewed with citra, Columbus, Ecunaut, and Mosaic hops.
SPEAKER_03See, I wouldn't even describe it ever as too hoppy though. No, they're liberally hoping it's a real real hop flavour. Yeah, but it's so like well-rounded though. Because like a lot of things, like when they go or shove loads of hops in it, it's just like yeah, you can tell they've shoveled a hops in it.
SPEAKER_04This has got a bit of four on untapped, hasn't it?
SPEAKER_03Uh okay, good question. If it's not, I'm gonna fucking write it.
SPEAKER_05Wow.
SPEAKER_03I don't write. I'm gonna go and get my pi my my picket picket.
SPEAKER_05It's got a 3.7.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_053.7. Well that's still the highest so far, isn't it? But it also has the by far the most ratings of anything we've looked at. It has 22,284 ratings. Wow. The end of chaos had like 503. Yeah, but it's a new beer, the end of chaos.
SPEAKER_04Uh right, okay.
SPEAKER_05Well uh what about Motueka then? Motueka has two 2,700. As opposed to 22,000. Oh okay.
SPEAKER_03That's crazy.
SPEAKER_05Well Shangers is a staple though, isn't it?
SPEAKER_03What colour is Shangers? Is that the um it's purple and yellow? That's that's the purple and yellow, isn't it? That's the the LeBrangier, that's the uh LA Lakers one.
SPEAKER_01That's the reason you like it, not because it's the one.
SPEAKER_03I didn't realise it that was that one. But maybe subliminally, yeah.
SPEAKER_04We'd got to um we'd got to Goodkem. Good chem, so we can from there round the corner through cobbled streets to more beer.
SPEAKER_03More beer, also with a branded stamp by this point to be fair. To be fair, it only fell off at the end. Spoiler. We'll get onto that if we've got time. So tell us about more beer, what's your thoughts? I've been there before. Do you want to know my initial memory of more beer when I um maybe I probably thought of this on Tuesday this week? Uh was listening to um smooth operator, and then you knocked my my beer out of my hand onto the floor. Can't remember that.
SPEAKER_04I remember listening to smooth operator.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so they they had a good old sound system with like a proper DJ in like a little like caverny room, yeah, which was past toilets. It's in the brew house. Yeah, but you had to go past the toilets, like everyone queuing for the pisser, through into where they had the car scales at the back, they sort of just shoved them out the back. Right. Which we didn't end up getting. I think we just got a keg one from the front. Yeah. Um I think I've got a video of maybe. There's more.
SPEAKER_06Wait, so what happened was this was
SPEAKER_03Pete knocked my fucking beard. Wait, yeah, I've got it on video. I didn't know it didn't there. Oh yeah, you see? Evidence. I don't even know how you did it though.
SPEAKER_04I was just getting down with it.
SPEAKER_03There it is, though. Put that on the socials, Max.
SPEAKER_06When you release it, you can't get one hit.
SPEAKER_03Oh, we fully look.
SPEAKER_05Wait, I th I thought you I thought you'd like he's like knocked a bit out of it, not the entire pincoat.
SPEAKER_03Well I don't know what we I think we're just dancing or like dicking about or whatever. Is that a gun? Is it straight from work? Yeah, yeah, he's just straight from the site in his high bird. It's a Royal Mail. He's a posty. Oh, he is a Royal Mail posty. Yeah, I don't know if you've seen it before. When do you remember that? When beer knocked my beer? When Pete knocked my beer. But then he he very kindly um gave me half. A half of his and we shared it out. I'm shaking. Oh, you got it on. Don't need a stab. Oh, we've had to. We gotta we got a down one then, are we all? No, no, no, no, no. Or a shot of vodka.
SPEAKER_05Number four.
SPEAKER_03You have to have a tomato. Yeah, we have to oh we eat a tomato. Number four, we're on. Don't need to ask. Wait, but this is more as well. Yeah. We don't throw this stuff together. Oh my god, this is definitely rigged. Yeah, it's definitely rigged. So we were talking about more, and now we're on to uh more. So what did you drink? And it is on number four. What did you drink at more? You can't remember. It was I had it was an IPA, it was on a keg. He actually drank about that much. Well you saw the colour of it, it was like a pale yellow, it wasn't as dark as what we got here. Okay. Because like you said, we didn't I don't think we knew about the cast stuff until we sort of ventured deeper into the venue.
SPEAKER_04A bit of woodwork and more.
SPEAKER_03Are we doing that now?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we went to Unwins. Wait, we should do those two together though. Yeah, because I've never heard of this.
SPEAKER_03Neither had I. I honestly didn't even realise where I was going.
SPEAKER_05This wasn't on the trail last year either.
SPEAKER_03So it was um Lil Martha's on the trail last year. Yeah, Little Martha was. That was the last one.
SPEAKER_04Rebrand? Well we didn't see that on the yeah, we've talked about them having new owners.
SPEAKER_00New owners, and it's being rebranded, and they're going back to their roots, and they're going back to Norhop, and they've renamed the Stout. Oh yeah. And yeah, when um I'm selling the old stock quite cheaply in the offie. Oh. Because I want to get the new stock in.
SPEAKER_03Nice. I knew I knew Sharon would have the information.
SPEAKER_05There's um oh god, I've forgotten his name.
SPEAKER_04Well Justin Hall. Does Will he's gone to a uh he's gone he's gone to another brewer, which maybe may maybe we'll talk about uh in another episode. Oh, okay. Might be another brewery visit, who knows? Right, what's next then? Um Right, we've got um Bristol bitter. From more.
SPEAKER_03From more. So we didn't have this when we were there. I've never tried this. It's actually called Bristols. It's actually called Bristol Best. I'll correct you, but it smells like a bitter, is that what you just said? It's a very strong beer, smelling. Fuck me, we're gonna break his glasses.
SPEAKER_04Oh it's not my type.
SPEAKER_03No, I think it's quite actually alright.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's quite nice.
SPEAKER_03It's a good it's a regional. What's the what would you it's caramelly. What is that taste? Yeah, like the traditional bitter taste. What would you what would you describe that flavour as? Is it like caramel? That like it's a big thing.
SPEAKER_06It's almost like cinnamony.
SPEAKER_03I like it, but like it's one of those ones that like I think I'd have one pint in and not want another one. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I think you could have that on a winter lunchtime. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05With uh a stew.
SPEAKER_04Isn't I I I could have it with a ploughman's.
SPEAKER_05I could have it with uh uh a pot uh pot noodle a pot pie. With a reduced pot noodle from co op.
SPEAKER_03A pot pie. Or like a pasty. We had a couple of pasty, yeah. Oh yeah. We'll come on to that with the next two breweries. How much did you eat? Yeah, fucking quite a bit. I drank more. Um so we were at onwinds then, weren't we? Hold on though, I like that beer. Just speaking about what we just tasted, I actually quite like that. Well, I say it's 3.4%, but it still tastes very beery. Oh yeah. I didn't reduce the percentage. It's weirdly, it's weirdly weak for how much flavours there.
SPEAKER_04I put caramel eat, sweet traditional bit.
SPEAKER_03Oh wow. Yeah, okay. Nice. Caramelle. What do they say on the old official blurb from Moorbeer?
SPEAKER_04Uh Bristol Best. Moorbeer, Bristol. Bitter malt, backbone of toffee and biscuit balanced by a firm traditional hopper. Bitterness. Bitterness. Bitterness.
SPEAKER_03Bitterness. Bitterness. Malt's the word I think I was trying to search for earlier, but I don't really know what fucking malt is, honestly. I know what maltaser is, and I know what malt drink's malt drink is. More like that. But I've never even a malt teaser. But like, what is malt? Is it a grain? Or a wheat wheatiness?
SPEAKER_05Malt is any cereal grain that has been made to germinate by soaking in water and then stop from germinating further by drying with hot air. Process known as malting.
SPEAKER_03Who started doing that? Or do you reckon they did it by the way?
SPEAKER_04Oh, they did it low. I think the Egyptians did it first. Oh yeah?
SPEAKER_05Well, I'm on the Wikipedia page. Um probably been used as ingredients of beer since ancient times, for example, in Egypt, ancient Egypt. You are welcome cuisine. Fuck me. Sumer and China. That's why he's the landlord.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah, we they had talk, they had a two-hour talk this week. What? Politics live now. Donald Trump and the Chinese fucking guy. China! It was only supposed to last an hour and it took two hours. Oh, that's good then.
SPEAKER_04I thought about this because I was hearing this on the news. I was driving driving somewhere. Um, I just again for the listeners, I just did the universal cyber driving. We were either driving or jacking off two blokes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um and I thought it's bound to take longer than you're scheduled for. Yeah, that's what I thought. Because you have to go for an interpreter. Yeah. So imagine if I had to be a little bit more.
SPEAKER_03And an hour's not very long to talk about everything.
SPEAKER_04But imagine if I had to say something and then Sharon had to repeat it. It would take twice as long.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So it's only an hour's talk. Do you think it was designed to be like good publicity? As in if they had a two-hour talk.
SPEAKER_03When it was only scheduled to be an hour.
SPEAKER_04Someone in politics might be lying to us. Yeah. Who knew?
SPEAKER_03I'm shocked. But I d I you know, apparently it's looking quite positive, their relationship, when they they thought they sort of somewhat hated each other.
SPEAKER_05Well, you know. It's like when you meet the guy that you think you hate in person, you're like, he's actually alright. Yeah, I thought I thought he was alright.
SPEAKER_03Or you pretend or you pretend to be friends with someone to get something that they have and you don't. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Anyway, we've had four beers tonight. Yeah. Have we? But it's yeah. I thought we'd had five. Well, the first one. We'll have to listen back to the tape. Um, but it is now quarter past nine, because we shut early on a Thursday. Yeah. And it's my chance to say. Do you think?
unknownLast orders of the bar, thank you.
SPEAKER_04Last orders. So, it is last orders. Um what are we going to be drinking, gentlemen?
SPEAKER_05Uh I'm gonna have a one for the team, please.
SPEAKER_03I know exactly where I'm going.
SPEAKER_05I know where I'm going.
SPEAKER_03Easy. And I'm going for a pint rather than I'm going for a full pint of this, and it's easy. Easy choice for me tonight.
SPEAKER_05What? Uh Shangers. Yeah, Shangers. Yeah, fair. And two pints of Shangers, please, Sharon. Fair. I I forgot to say I went on a brewery tour in Ireland. But it wasn't beer.
SPEAKER_03Guinness?
SPEAKER_05It was whiskey. I saw you drinking Guinness.
SPEAKER_04That's not a that's not a brewery, is it? It's distillery. Distillery tour. Distillery. You can go to the bushmills, I think. I did go to Bushmills.
SPEAKER_05Oh beautiful. I went to the bushmills distillery, Northern Ireland. It was really good. What'd they distill there? Whiskey.
SPEAKER_03What kind of whiskey?
SPEAKER_05Fucking Irish whiskey. Oh shit. All kinds of whiskey. Did you drink it? Fucking I did. I didn't sleep the night before and we got there at half an hour. Wait, you were so excited.
SPEAKER_03Right, so is this a night you were up all night playing hide and seek or whatever?
SPEAKER_05No. So the night that we left, because the flight was at 7 a.m. I got picked up at like four and I just didn't sleep because I don't usually sleep before then anyway.
SPEAKER_03So you were up mixing.
SPEAKER_05I actually went to bed but I didn't sleep. Anyway, I was knackered, and we went straight from the airport to uh whiskey distillery. Just got on the whiskey. Straight on the whiskey. Straight whiskey.
SPEAKER_03What time?
SPEAKER_05About half eleven in the morning. Beautiful.
SPEAKER_03Nice.
SPEAKER_05Everyone needs a hobby. And we went to Giants Causeway and almost fell over because I was pissed. Well that's where you were squatting.
SPEAKER_03Are you a general generally a whiskey drinker?
SPEAKER_05No, uh it actually broke my four-year streak of not drinking straight spinks. I had a phase. Yeah. I stopped drinking straight spider.
SPEAKER_04I like whiskey, um, but as you get older, it's like it it messes with your um indigestion and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_03It's quite fertility, yeah.
SPEAKER_04No problems there, mate.
SPEAKER_03I was gonna I I used to drink a lot of Jameson's whiskey. That was my tiple of choice.
SPEAKER_05So Bushmills is like the second biggest uh uh distillery in Ireland after Jameson's. Oh right. But Jameson's like stratheric. What does that mean? Just fucking cute, like through the transnational corporation. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04But um probably part of DiAgio or someone like that. Yeah. Asaki. Yeah, Sahi. Sahi or Asaki? Sahi. Sahi. The Japanese lager. Yeah, they're a massive drinks. That's the it's one of the biggest drinks corporations in the world.
unknownSorry.
SPEAKER_04I think they own do they own uh Anhouse Bush? Do they own Anhouse and Bush? I don't know about that. Why is it not in more pubs then? They got it done the Royal. No, but at Hashi, they row they own Fuller. They f own Fuller's. Oh wow.
SPEAKER_05I saw he brought so these brands all ownership.
SPEAKER_03Are they Japanese? Like by origin, or is that just a uh 1960. Jesus. It's a global world we live in, mate.
SPEAKER_05They own 19 crimes wine.
SPEAKER_03Is that what Donald Trump was having a chat about?
SPEAKER_05They own seven up.
SPEAKER_03Japan, not China.
SPEAKER_05They own loads of things, but I'm gonna read I'm gonna read some of the ones you might know out. They own Carlsberg. What? I thought that was like uh Corona. They own Fosters, they own Gatorade.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god! They own Wait, so why why are the own Lipton like Lipton Ice T. Yeah I know all these subcompanies are just like conning us into thinking that they're own they're their own thing. They own mountain. It's like Unilever, isn't it?
SPEAKER_05Funnily enough, they own and this is this this is spelled. They own the some arms? This is U N W N I R.
SPEAKER_03I'm just throwing this out here. I'm gonna throw shade. I wasn't gonna be this harsh, but I'm gonna be this harsh. They were the first beer, the first brewery that didn't have a fucking stamp. Who signs up for the brewery trail doesn't have a stamp. You go out to the bar, queue up like a little child in the fucking National Trust place that doesn't can't focus on anything, so they they collect bugs around that the place. What are you talking about? Have you never been to a National Trust thing and they've got things to entertain kids because they're not actually interested in the history? No. This is basically me with my little stupid beer coaster. Right. Sorry, I'm drunk now. That feels like I we we need to unpick this. Yeah, yeah. No, but what I'm saying is the other ones they had like a nice stamp and all some of them you stamp your own, that's fine. I prefer if someone did a stuff.
SPEAKER_05Did you ask for a stamp?
SPEAKER_03Of course I did. I said, can I have a stamp, please, Mr. Unwin? And he gets a fucking red Sharpie out and writes a W on it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's alright, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00No!
SPEAKER_03It's not alright.
SPEAKER_00Like, how long have they been? I'm with Ash on this. I was very disappointed. Everybody else had a little stamp.
SPEAKER_04Maybe someone stole their stamp.
SPEAKER_03Shut up. They lost their song.
SPEAKER_04I don't think they ever had a stamp.
SPEAKER_03It ran out of ink. Someone else didn't have a stamp, though. Yeah, Little Martha's didn't have a stamp. They wrote a heart, so I somewhat forgo forgive them. No, I don't, I don't actually. I don't forgive them. But um maybe it's because of fancy. Unforgivable. Unforgivable. But no, it kind of just pissed me off a bit. Because like they've obviously like, look at how well orchestrated this whole thing. Bearing in mind, at the start of the day, I didn't know this was this official.
SPEAKER_00To be honest, some of them just had a stamping table. You did it yourself.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I didn't like that either.
SPEAKER_00Oh god.
SPEAKER_05Fucking hell. They could have just not had this gimmick and it would have been made out of the way.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, maybe somebody did it for you. But I bet half the people didn't collect them all. I collected them all.
SPEAKER_05Was there a prize for getting all of them? No. So who cares?
SPEAKER_03Um, it's not all about it's about the emotional satisfaction of doing it, isn't it? And also I feel like I feel more connected to the brewery now that I've got a stamp from month.
SPEAKER_05You're gonna forget about it in a week. No, no, no.
SPEAKER_03I don't think he will. I won't forget about it until next year, until I make and I go round.
SPEAKER_04So anyway, I'm gonna call time in a minute. Yeah, we've all got a few minutes. But before I call time, before I call time on this, um I just I think we should just sum up today. These Bristol beers are amazing, aren't they? Mention little Marfas. Fucking hell.
SPEAKER_03We didn't really mention either of those. They were basically in the same place. There was a pasty shop in between. And also Full Court Press, the coffee place was there, and I actually had a coffee sour. This was a different this wasn't even on the bill. This is how pissed I was.
SPEAKER_05You had a coffee?
SPEAKER_03No, I yeah, and an espresso, and also they made a coffee sour. Did you shit yourself on the way back? Yeah, it all came up my mouth when I was talking to Graham.
SPEAKER_05Did you chant?
SPEAKER_03No. I meant I was just chorting chatting shit. Right. But anyway, thanks, Graham, for listening.
SPEAKER_04So we had a great time in Bristol.
SPEAKER_05But I wish I had more time to talk about it. You can't remember half of it, and you don't know what beers you had.
SPEAKER_03Um Bristol next year. Bristol was a blind.
SPEAKER_04We'll be going again next year. Thank you, Bristol. Thank you, the East Bristol Brewery Trail. Yeah, for sure. And uh thank you for what you do up there. We tasted them tonight and they are quality. Happiness.
SPEAKER_03Love Bristol. I don't think that's any surprise to anyone. But um We're biased maybe. Are we? Do you think? I don't know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but equally though, if there's any brewers, any brewers or any listeners who know where else we should go next for our city tour, you can do dark revolution.

SPEAKER_05I'd love to do one like Saturday night live. I'd love to do one live, like so I don't have to edit it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but then we would really be have to very be very careful what we said.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, but also we could it could just be set like on live so it wasn't saved.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah. No, but also I feel like we would be responsible. I feel like a lot of the times, not that we we ever you don't have to include this either, but not that we ever say anything that bad. I think we're getting more funny.
SPEAKER_04So we've had a blast, we've had some great beers from Bristol. Um and um so Ash, you got a leaving thought?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I do actually. Bristol. You feel so far, but you are so near. When I drink your beer, my mind is clear. I'll take you home. It wasn't on that tour. I'll take you home and I'll think about you dearly. Um the things I did, I wake up in fearly.

SPEAKER_01Whoa.
SPEAKER_03I I mean I've I'm the only one who's brought one to the to the table. I thought about doing another one, but I cut me asked. Do another one. No, no, I meant like another proper one.
SPEAKER_05But do you know what?
SPEAKER_03John, my thought of writing a poem is a lot of time.
SPEAKER_05It could be like your thing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it could be, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Every episode we end we're asking.
SPEAKER_03So I'm sat here at the table. Not drunk enough because I am still able. To make my way home to say thank you to my friends. I hope that this podcast never does end. Anyway. This episode is ending right now, we'll leave it then. So until next week, we'll be doing this forever. Go in and say hello to your mate, and you're not going to be able to do that. It's not ending, is it? Right. I've been Peter. And I've been Ash.
