SPEAKER_02

Hey folks, welcome to Did You See This with Rudy Martinez. I'm your host, Rudy Martinez. Today, joined by the homie Trevor. What's up, Trevor? What's poppin'?

SPEAKER_00

What's poppin'?

SPEAKER_02

How you doing, man? Man, I've been well. How about you? Doing good, man. You brought some mimosas today this morning, so we're doing better now. So how to do it right? We're hanging. We're hanging out just like the just like the homies in the movie, man. There you go. Just chilling, bro. So yeah. We'll see. We got a whole bottle of champagne in here. So if this goes off the rails towards the end, you know you know why. Yeah. All good.

SPEAKER_00

Big cheers to you, bro.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Hey, congrats. This shit is tight. Cheers, brother. Appreciate it, man. That'll do it. You put a drop of orange juice in my champagne. Great. Um, yeah, man. Thanks for coming on. It's good. Cool to have you on.

SPEAKER_00

Appreciate it. Appreciate the invite. Yeah, bro.

SPEAKER_02

Happy to be here. Yeah. So Trevor, uh, you know, I've obviously we've known each other fucking our whole lives pretty much. Our families have known each other for forever. But yeah, man, I I hit you up, you know, a couple times, but then I hit you up recently to say, fuck it, let's, you know, let's get you on for real. Asked you about for a bunch of give me a bunch of movies you like, gave me a list, and all of them just straight, you know, hood classics, just you know, straight up. Like, I mean, all all the shit, all the ones you said, I was like, damn, those would all be good to do.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_02

Um, you know, there were some of like, you know, there were some of like the big ones, like you know, like there's some of the big ones you gave me. I was like, yeah, those were like, gotta do those. But then there's one you I like to do the movies, you know, I like to do the like the big movies that a lot of people have seen on this on the show, you know, because you know, gotta get the numbers sometimes. Right. But but I really like to do the ones that I think are kind of underseen, underrated, like 100% the little gems.

SPEAKER_00

100%.

SPEAKER_02

And maybe open open somebody else's eyes to them and they go check them out.

SPEAKER_00

You know what I mean? That's right.

SPEAKER_02

The one you gave me, the one we're doing today is the wood. Yeah, classic. Classic 1999, Rick Famu Famu Ywa, I think is his last name. Yeah, this was I think this was his first movie. I remember watching this damn with my friend, yeah, a couple friends, like probably like 15 years ago for the first time. Like my friend, my I had a friend named Ricky who showed this movie to me, me and my friend Pablo. I had never seen it. He was he loved it, and then I he showed it to us, and yeah, it was up. That was like our movie, the three of us. So, like every anytime we were doing anything, it was like for the wood, for the wood. Like, that's that was like our little code right there.

SPEAKER_00

Um, and it's three of y'all, it's three in the movie because it went together.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly, bro. Uh, so that was like that was like our movie right there. And um, I hadn't watched it, man, in a long time. I had not seen it in probably over 10 years, uh, at least. So I rewatched it last night, and man, it was it was just it's a nice little like comfort movie, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Right, exactly.

SPEAKER_02

Get your comfort food, watch your comfort movie, and just kick it. That's right. What when's the first time you saw this movie? You think?

SPEAKER_00

At my grandma's house, my cousin played it. My cousin was living with my grandma, and um we were watching it just in his room, me, him, and my other cousin. And that was the first time, and I was like, really though, to be honest, I remember watching it, but I was like eight, seven or eight. So I didn't really appreciate it. No, and appreciate like the little the little slick, you know, metaphors that they dropped in it until I got older. And then I remember we all a bunch of us watched it in college in our uh our little common area, right? Our little like rec room or whatever. And um that was the first time I had seen it since then, for real. Yeah, oh wow. So I'm like, it's it's a whole different perspective. I'm like, you know, 10 years down the line now, more than a decade, maybe. And um, and then yeah, now I watch it like I gotta watch that shit every every quarter.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, just I'm watching it. Just to remind yourself who you are. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, man, it it's uh it's like you know, those movies you see when you're young, right? Especially like these movies, like kind of hangout, homie, like friend movies, like that aren't you know, just party movies, like you watch them and like you can laugh at it. Like I remember watching like Friday, right? When you're young, and um you laugh at Friday, but you don't really understand why you're laughing fully yet, and then there's jokes that just go right over your head. Exactly. And then you have to kind of get older, live life.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. You go through similar situations, then you're like, oh, that's what the fuck the director was talking about when he did that.

SPEAKER_02

And then you and then it either it's funnier or at least you get like the or it humbles you a little bit, or you're kind of like, oh fuck, man, yeah, I've been there. Right. Um, and this movie for sure, like even when I watched it with my with my friends, you know, all back when, like, we laughed at it, and it's like, you know, because it's it's a movie mainly about male friendship ultimately. Um hundred percent coming of age, yeah, coming of age growing up, and I think for guys in general, right? Like you have your boys, and it's always just there's this nothing like getting with the boys and just hanging out, right?

SPEAKER_00

And that shit hits different. You know, you you did you did life right. You got a beautiful wife and a beautiful child in the other room, but for dudes that is still kind of like Roland, you know what I mean? Like the fact that he was with his old flame the day of his wedding is crazy, right? And it's like, but he was really afraid of commitment for whatever reason he may have had, so yeah, it that shit could could make you think for sure.

SPEAKER_02

A little bit, you a little bit of relatability right there. A little bit, you know what I mean? Oh yeah, I was gonna I was gonna ask you, I was like, of the three, of the three, which one are you? And I was I was gonna get to say, I'm like, I'm like, I think are you Roland?

SPEAKER_00

Because Roland's a lover boy for real.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's a lover boy.

SPEAKER_00

Lover boy for forced to be a you know, forced to be a pimp. So yeah, I'm just fine, but uh, but um I don't know, maybe maybe a hybrid between Roland and Mike. Yeah. Maybe a hybrid. Because Mike kind of did his own thing, right? Like, think about it, he came from another state, cross country, correct, right? In a time Carolina. Yeah, exactly, exactly. Carolina, exactly, in a time where you know it was super active out there, right? And he came to he went to Inglewood in the in the active state, excuse me. But he never lost himself, he still stayed himself, you know what I mean? And you know, I think that authenticity is like he speaks volume. So I say and that's I think I relate to that. So I think probably him or rolling like a hybrid between them, yeah. For sure.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I get that. Yeah, and especially you know, movies like this sometimes where you know the the character comes from somewhere else or the kind of the fish out of water, and then they start to like change because of what they're surrounded by all of a sudden. But this movie doesn't really do that. Like you said, Mike kind of stays true to himself the entire time. Really, he doesn't really like you know, you give into just stuff the stuff he gives into or like you know, like like the the little bets and shit they get into. It's just it's not that he's like becoming a bad person, it's just that's just what with your when you're with your boys and your kids, you just do dumb shit like that. It's not you know, yeah, some of the stuff they're doing, like watching it now. I was like like the movie. I'm like, yeah, you probably don't have to the shot doesn't have to hang on these like teenagers' asses too much, but yeah, but you know, but again, we're seeing it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that shit was crazy. Yeah, I was like, yo, but again, or just the whole game period of slapping the I mean I remember shit that shit though. I remember that shit dudes doing that at Ring Con or like even like pants and yeah, like it was crazy, and it's just like you now you're old, like the same thing we're just talking about. Now you're older, you're like, that's like sexual assault. That's terrible.

SPEAKER_02

Especially now, like have me having a daughter. I'm like, yo, I don't know. If some dude goes and pants my daughter, you would do what Stacey did, yeah, literally.

SPEAKER_00

Or call a little cousin or something on a big thing. Yeah, bro.

SPEAKER_02

I'm like, hell no, bro. Like, you know, but yeah, when you're when you're in middle school element or middle school, you know, especially middle school. I feel like this is like these like middle school activities, like when you get to high school, it's like a different type of game like people are playing. But in middle school, this is when like people are doing dumb shit like that. Yeah, yeah. And I feel like because like this emotional immaturity for real. Right. It's the most emotional immaturity, and it's when you know a lot of people are starting to hit, like, you know, they're starting to mature and hit the puberty and all that. So like you know, hormones are going wild, especially for the guys, yeah. And like you just you don't see women in that way, like you like you're starting to get attracted to women, but like you just kind of see them as things to fuck with. So you're doing a little dumb shit, yeah. And you just do dumb, yeah. But now you're like old, you're like, man, that's fucking don't you?

SPEAKER_00

And you kind of see you kind of see the growth too, like like we were speaking about, like when they were kids, they were doing shit like that, right? But then as they got older and uh Roland was like, No, I want to stay with her, right? Mike was like, Are you fucking crazy? Like you got a wife, this isn't right. So you see like the growth. So it's cool, it's a it's a good, I like that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they grow up, yeah. Even like even Slim, right? Slim is obviously so the yeah, the millionaire slow. Yeah, the the three of the the the three characters are Mike, Slim, and and Roland. Um Mike, like we said, come he's he's from out of state, moves to Inglewood, which is what they call the they call it the wood. And uh the movie, the like the general premise is it's these three friends that are they're grown up now, it's the day of Roland's wedding uh and he's missing. So Mike and Slim go out to find him, or they they get a call from from Roland's ex. Yeah uh that he's over there uh drunk, you know, just acting like an idiot. So they go to pick him up, and it's just like their journey from getting him picked up to getting back to the wedding, and it's just them reminiscing on their days of how they met and kind of the stuff they got up to in middle school and high school. Yeah. And uh as adults, I mean, even as their kids, the personalities are similar. Mike is kind of very, you know, he's obviously he's the new kid figuring himself out. Slim is the is the player, the playboy, you know, he he's wants to have multiple girls on deck, this, this, and that. Roland kind of has that similar thing, but he, you know, they're both kind of playboys, but Slim kind of, and even as they get older, now that they're older, and Slim is like, can't be tied down. He's hanging on to that still. I can't be with, I can never be with one girl. Uh, and then Roland, like you said, is kind of the lover boy. Like, he he he puts up a lover boy. Yeah, he puts up the front, but but he low-key wants to be like go home to someone at night. Uh and and so he's having this, I guess, crisis that he's about to get tied down forever and he doesn't know if that's what he wants.

SPEAKER_00

Got cold feet.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_00

He's got cold feet.

SPEAKER_02

Um, and so now it's them trying to get him off his shit and back to the wedding. Uh uh, and then just you know, they're they're they're reminiscing about all times, which is again like that part in particular, I think, is relatable. Like now that I, you know, we're in our late 20s or getting into early 30s, like when you get with your boys, you know, what's one of the main things you guys do is you talk about shit you guys got up to when you were, you know, high school, college, 20s, like the shit you you know, you it comes up every time. You get a couple drinks in you, and hey, remember reminiscing. Remember when, remember when. Go down memory road. That's kind of what this movie is, just it's just one big remember when with these characters.

SPEAKER_00

Um they haven't flashbacks, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And so, yeah, we get the first meeting of when Mike first meets Roland and Slim, they kind of they kind of come up to him and just welcome it, welcome in their group with open arms, and they kind of instantly become friends. And I I was tripping out too because I didn't realize the whole shit, like the whole bet and all that. That's like his first day of school where he gets beat up by Stacy. Yeah, first day of school. That was his first impression that's crazy that he made. Yeah, yeah. So, so they're as the when they're kids, and I'm I they're like in I think they're like an eighth grade, they must be because I think they when that when it goes on later, they're starting high school. Yeah, yeah. Uh, but they're like eighth grade, yeah, they're end of middle school, and um Roland and Slim have this this bet where you know I'll bet you a dollar to go grab some girl's ass. Uh, and Mike clearly doesn't want to do it, but doesn't want to be a bitch either.

SPEAKER_00

So he's like, And that's also he thinks this is the way he's gonna fit into the group. Right trio. He's gonna be the third one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and uh so there's a girl that Alicia, that's right.

SPEAKER_00

That he's attracted to immediately.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Alicia, and she's like the girl, like the like the like the main girl of the school. Like this is it girl. Yeah, this is it. Like everybody wants her, like, but nobody can have her, like she doesn't date nobody, like um, and you know, all the guys want her, and she's like not interested, absolutely not. Like, she's like the golden prize, basically, like the one that no one can have. Um, and so they bet him a dollar, Mike, to go grab her ass, and he does, and she rug, you know, unleashes on him rightfully so. Yeah, tells him, you know, she fires on him, yeah. Yeah, he gets he gets hit, and then she tells him, hits him with the I'm gonna tell my brother.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, lo and behold, her brother is is is a straight gangbanger, and he didn't know that. But that that and that I low-key didn't like that. I'm like, why the fuck would Slim and Roland set him up like that, knowing her brother is banged out? Yeah, he's a blood, yeah, yeah, banged out, set him up, and then after school he has to get down. But that's kind of what that's kind of what set him up for success with Alicia. Because when Stacy comes in after school, he goes, you know, what's up? You think my my sister's a hoe? And then he has the most famous line in the movie, no, I think she's party. And when he said that though, if it it goes, the camera goes to her, right? And she like kind of gets this facial expression, like, oh my god, like no one's ever stood up for me like that to my brother. Right. And then Mike fires, Mike fires on him, yeah. Mike fires on him, hits him one time, but then gets his ass whipped. Yeah. But it was like commendable. Yeah. And he got the respect of not only Alicia, but also her brother, which comes in pretty yeah, helpful down the line.

SPEAKER_02

And Slim and Roland kind of do their part to kind of have his back. Yeah, they put that back. Kind of solidifies their friendship the first day. That that that's the bond they have. But uh, yeah, and like you said, Stacy, yeah, Stacey, man, he's a funny character. So yeah, he's he's Alicia's older brother, gangbanger. Burnt out, burnt out. He's burnt out, got the that greasyest hair around, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Got that Jerry Crow.

SPEAKER_02

Um it yeah, he's a he's a great character, and and he comes out throughout throughout the movie, he just continues to be like a like the this little secret weapon they have of it. Right.

SPEAKER_00

Um definitely the entertainment of the movie, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Man, I mean, and this movie again, it's not very like plot heavy, complicated. It's really just three dudes hanging out in their, you know, as adults and just thinking about the shit they got up to as kids. And it's just again, you know, we we'll go with the flashback. It's really like it's pretty simple. Like the adults will hang out and they'll be like, haha, remember this, and then it just flashes back to the movie. Yeah, so it's not like a super like deep movie as far as that. It's really more just but it's like again, it's like a hangout coming out. It's a feel-good movie. Yeah, it's a feel good. It's kind of what it's like to hang out with your boys, really. It's the type of shit you get up to. And and when you, you know, as you get older, right? And we all have, you know, you start off young having this big network of friendships, and then as you get older, you know, it starts some of those branches start dying off, and you kind of you're you're with the ones that you know that are really your boys at the end of the day. And 100%. Those are like the hangouts that really you you cherish, right? They matter, yeah. Yeah, because or matter more, I should say. Matter more, yeah. All the friendships matter up to a point, but then it's just the thing. There's some that matter more, though. Yeah, yeah. There's some that matter a little bit more or a lot more. To be honest, uh I think like the the first big really after the after the beating is the the dance.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Uh and again, like everyone, the the three of them all obviously have like they all have the hots for Alicia, but again, like Mike is actually like he he like likes her, he like wants to be in a relationship with her. Roland and Slim, you know, they want to hook up with her because she's again the it girl. Yeah. Uh, but she's you know, she kind of likes Mike.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but she she's she's definitely waiting for Mike. You could tell by the little thing she says, she's waiting for Mike to take initiative and kind of make that first move. And you know, he's a little timid, but the school dance is kind of what sets it off.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and and and while this is going on again in present day, the three guys are they're they're trying to get uh Roland out of his ex-flame, his high school girlfriend's house. She does doesn't want him there, obviously. He's there drunk off his mind, acting like he's trying to get back with her or whatever it is. Right. She wants something to do with it. They're driving around trying to get him cleaned up, sobered up. He's puking in the back of the car.

SPEAKER_00

He throws up. That's still happening. So he throws up on everybody's on because they're dressed inside their best man. So oh, mind you, Slim and Mike are Roland's co-best men. So he has two best men's. Um, best man's best men's. I don't think that's best men's, yeah. I guess the best man's right. Two best men. So he throw so they're inside their gear for the wedding. He throws up on all of it. The wedding is in an hour and a half. Yeah, so they gotta go find a dry cleaner to do it in an hour. They finally find, you know, the homegirl down the street. She says, Alright, I'll do what I can do. Does it, and then they go and eat, and that's when they have a flashback because they ate there when they were kids at the pizza party.

SPEAKER_02

Right. Uh that's when they make the they make one, they make one of their bets. Uh so out, yeah. The one of the bets they make is that by the end of in a month, which one of them can is gonna get something? They're gonna get laid. They're gonna lose it because they're all virgins, right? And yeah, at the end of every month, if they have no one's done it, they have to add another like five dollars every month. To the pot, and the pot keeps getting bigger and bigger. So like it keeps cutting, right?

SPEAKER_00

It keeps cutting to when they're trying to talk the girls into it. That shit is funny. She goes, When Slim is burnt out, he was like, To the first girl, he was like, But you know I want to make love to you. And she goes, You don't even love me. He says, We've been together for a long time. He said, We've been together for a week. He goes, Oh yeah, yeah, he doesn't even know.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, man, it's it's it's funny, yeah. It's funny to watch them all trying to get to that that next step saying whatever they can say, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, I feel it though.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, sometimes you gotta sometimes you gotta say you gotta say it. You gotta everything you got.

SPEAKER_00

You gotta stretch the truth a little bit. You know, I'm like, shit.

SPEAKER_02

You know you mean a lot to me. You don't know, you know how I feel about you. Oh man. Oh man.

SPEAKER_00

But yeah, that's that's that's the uh back to the plot. When they uh back to the dance, when they left the dance, that was when it kind of all started because yeah, they had a bet who could get the most numbers, right? And they all got like Slim got like six, Rowling got like seven, but then Mike got Aliash's and they're like, Oh, you win the bet. That's worth like 10 numbers.

SPEAKER_02

Right. And and before, so like even leading up to that, right? That's when they leave because they're all like, oh, our breath is rancid, we gotta go get tic-tac, they gotta go into fresh enough. Before the school dance, right, yeah. They did the breath check. And they get the yeah, so they go to the gas station or the the liquor store to get and then this is when this is when Stacy and his home in Worm, I think Yeah, Buster ass Worm. Pull up to and they start robbing the liquor store as they're there. And they're hiding. They're hiding, yeah. And then Stacy recognizes them when they get kind of forced to come out, and he's like, Oh man, and he says he got heart. Yeah, because and this is when we find out Stacy showing him a little bit of respect, and then he's gonna give him a ride to the dance, and as they're driving to the dance, they get pulled over. Right. And um just off some random shit. Oh, tail light. Broken taillight. And uh as always, right? They, of course, Stacy they had a gun on them because they were robbing the liquor store. They they tried to his homie tried to stash it, did a shitty job. It's like plain sight, and as the cop's about to find it, Mike fakes like an allergy attack, so the cop pays attention to him, and then they get uh you know the call from the same robbery they just did for that exact robbery to go over there and respond to it, and then but Stacy sees that Mike kind of covered for them because he sees the gun, and then that right then and there Stacey's like, all right, like this will he he showed me heart, but now he's got my respect.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_02

And he bitches at worm because you know what's funny too? This this the dude that plays Worm, Coach Carter, yeah, yeah, bro.

SPEAKER_00

I was he was the playboy in Coach Carter, right? The jacuzzi and shit all kicked in the city.

SPEAKER_02

Is he the one that gets the shanti pregnant? I think so. I think so, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, they have the little kid there. She is yeah, that that's he's with the shanti in that one. But I think, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, no, no, no, no, that's not him. That's not him. It's the dark skin dude, the the star player, of course. That's right, that's right.

SPEAKER_02

No, yeah, but he's he's the player, dude.

SPEAKER_00

He's like, I forgot that was a shanti. Yeah, and and and uh yeah, yeah, the dark skin, the best, the the star player. He's the one that got it. Right. The one that wear the headband and shit.

SPEAKER_02

You're right, that's right, that's right. This yeah, he's the player. He's the player. He was just the player, always you know, running around. Right, right, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Daff was a buster, too.

SPEAKER_02

I was laughing, dude. I mean, the cast of this movie, right? Like, especially the three leads, you know, you got Tay Diggs, who has been in everything. I mean, right. So he was in like a few of the movies you you sent me. Like the best man. I love the best man, like the all the best man.

SPEAKER_00

The best man is my shit, bro. Like, that's like literally probably one of my favorite movies. Yeah, and we'll get to it later for this movie, but Sanai Latin's in that movie too. It's my wife. Amazing. I love her. I love that woman. Drink her bath water. But she's she's she's in a few movies that I I love. Love and basketball. Oh, yeah. They all kind of because you know they all kind of intermediate.

SPEAKER_02

They are and uh, you know, yeah, you got Tay Diggs, and then you got uh Omar Epps is is Mike. Right. I do, you know, I mean Juice, you know all that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and then her him and Sinai Lathan co-star in Love and Basketball. Right, they're the two big main characters.

SPEAKER_02

All it's all linked, like it's yeah, all that's why I was kind of one of things I I remember, I noticed, especially in this rewatch, like just uh you know, Richard T. Jones, someone who he's he's been around forever. Um, but yeah, Tay Diggs, Omar Epps, Sinai Lathan, uh Worm. Even Stacy, like we you and I were texting about Stacy, how like he so this director made a movie probably about 10 years ago called Dope. Yeah, it's really good. And Stacy has a little cameo in that movie as a security guard, playing Stacy himself. Right. Um, but then later on, he's in a show called uh Snowfall. Snowfall. And he's playing he plays a crazy. Yeah, it's basically Stacy gone dark.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, um, what's it what's his name? DeAndre is it DeAndre Bonds?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's his name. Quite sure, it's DeAndre Bonds, yeah. That's his name.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he uh he's crazy.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah. In this, he's you know, he's just a high wire like you know, banger, but in uh in Snowfall, he's just like this like Zen smoked out Buddha, like crazy gangster.

SPEAKER_00

Like has his little apartment trap on lock. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Like he's he comes through, he's all about like you know, peace and love, but like Loki will just like kill you with like a samurai sword. Like if he like really cool character that you know goes through a lot of shit. Like he's really, really good. And that's a fucking another great show. But uh, but he's so good. It was so cool when I watched when I watched that show and I saw him like, oh sure, that's Stacy. And I, you know, I didn't know it was him for a bit, and then I was like, I think that's him.

SPEAKER_00

But yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_02

But yeah, dude, it's it's uh yeah, Tay Diggs, man. Like that guy, you know, he's it is cool. It's cool in this one too, because usually Tay Diggs is like the cool, you know, player, like uh suave guy. And this one he's kind of he's the messy, like goofy dude. Right, you know, like he's for the most of the movie.

SPEAKER_00

Um I'll give you a uh a funny note too. In the speaking of cameos, when they go to the um and honestly, I didn't realize it till last night because I had just rewatched this show. Right. But when they go to the dry cleaners to get their you know suits drenched and throw up cleaned, the dry clean lady, she's one of the main characters on the old school TV show, A Different World. She's the she's the older.

SPEAKER_02

girl in the in the in the show and shit and I just rec because I just watched that show and I just recognized I was like wait what's I looked it up I was like oh that is her that's funny so yeah they got it's a cool you know it's a respected movie and obviously like it's it's it's a pretty much all black cast there's really not any white people in the movie or any anyone other than than the the main like all of the predominant characters anyone that talks the movies is played by a black actor and obviously like this is the late 90s so usually like you know a black character in a movie it's they're the funny guy they're the friend right they're not they they're not really the leads you know they're it's unless you know unless it's like a Spike Lee movie or something like that or if you're Denzel. So but like you know but so yeah and like a lot of that's why there's so many familiar faces right because then you see like oh they were on that sitcom or the or in a couple years they'll be in this movie or they were just in that movie. But yeah man so so Stacy earns you know he he he gives Mike his props when they pull drop him off the dance he everybody gets out and he has Mike hold back and then he kind of tells him basically gives him the his blessing like if you want to go after my sister like you know you're a guy that I would let you're a good guy and he gives her he gives him but gives him some game and this is her favorite song. If this song plays you know you better pull Luther vanros let oh yeah yeah Luther Teddy yeah Luther it's Luther Van Ross uh If this world were mine yeah the Kendrick Sizza sample yeah exactly um oh yeah duh yeah Luther classic yeah um they get they go into the dance finally they're all freshened up and then obviously the other like one of the funnier bits was that Mike doesn't know how to dance right he's trying he tried to learn how to dance throughout the Bomb walked in on him and he's like he's like freaking with like a stuffed the bunny monk bunny and um he's like fuck it you know he goes to the dance like I still don't know how to dance but fuck it I'm just gonna be myself see it see how that goes and so him and his boys start dancing with the girls and Mike pulls out his like you know his corny moves that he had and the girls like after a minute like she's you could see she's in she's entertained she's entertains it for like a second and then he starts getting a little too crazy with it.

SPEAKER_00

She's like oh yeah this dude is for real I'm getting tired.

SPEAKER_02

So then Mike gets he's a wallflower the rest of the dance and uh while Roland and Slim are out there dancing with multiple women getting numbers getting numbers yeah and uh the entire dance he's kind of just Mike's just there uh wallflowering it up and eventually the Luther song plays Lo and behold and he sees Alicia out there she's by herself not dancing with anybody you see a guy kind of try to get her attention and she's not interested so Mike decides fuck it he goes for it somehow and gets a dance with her and uh and he gets a bonus yeah yeah and so he separates a couple feet he's like how we do it in North Carolina she's like well this is how we do it in LA and then she felt it last second with the song cut and she's like uh right yeah but she kind of I look she didn't she didn't say get off me right she just she just took it she was like oh man okay but then the party was over so or the dance was over and that's when they walk down and he gets her number yeah and that kind of takes him to the next phase and then you see Stacy in the car like giving him props like yeah bro you got my sister's number I'm like damn bro you're really fly ass impala 66 banger whip but yeah that was that was that was kind of like the midpoint and then that's when they kind of transitioned to high school it's a whole another bet yeah and then yeah and you know we get a little we get a little bit of background that Alicia and Mike dated for a couple weeks but it just kind of they ended up being friends and then Mike's got a girlfriend in high school now and Alicia has a boyfriend and uh yeah uh Roland or Slim is he's gotten rid of his Jerry Crusher's Jerry Cruz now he's just he's buzzed because Richard T. Jones is a bald man in adult years. And um yeah and then obviously cut in between this is when the three the adults the adult versions are getting hosed off at at uh is it Tanya is that her name Tanya the ex at Tanya's house she was she won't let him in the house to shower.

SPEAKER_00

So they're in the backyard.

SPEAKER_02

So they're in the backyard butt naked. And then she takes their clothes. Yeah and then she's out there scoping them out laughing at laughing at him like you're enjoying this bitch but yeah um you like the show you like the show uh and uh yeah and then and then now they're in high school and now now it's it's the big big bet that they're gonna have which is like like we talked about who's in virginity and so and yeah it starts with at the end of the month you know five bucks each whoever get you know wins the pot and then it's just a montage of them trying to convince these girls in high school to to sleep with them and you know that they're all they're you know they're first base second base you know but none of they're not none of them are getting on home plate and all of them like it like it you know the one guy uh uh is it slim that's like you know how did that can you remember how long he's been with the girls been a week and then Mike is over there you know playing DJ and he's like he's like I'm over this shit I'm done spinning the turntable and she's like religious marriage the Bible doesn't it's like huh yeah you was just yeah you just let me you know swing in the canoe like now you're a woman of God all of a sudden um yeah and and so yeah it's just it's a s and it's in you know it's every 30 seconds it's them going back to where they have their stash pot and the money is just the it's the amount of dollars just piling up in there because none of them are are getting lucky.

SPEAKER_00

And then after Mike did that what what set it off was him and Alicia's study. She kind of tutors him a little bit or they're studying together in the library and he tells her what she's what he said to the girl his girlfriend when he was trying to kind of get her to give him skins and he was like she was like you can't say that da da da like trying to coach him and at the end of their conversation she goes yeah you basically just have to find somebody that wants to do it and they kind of look at each other it's like awkward pause and they go their separate ways.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah and then it was you know that was kind of set us up that was foreshadowing for what's to go she's kind of dropping hints like she's obvious obviously there's still like they have a bond a connection like and and she's not like with him she's always like she's pretty like forward right she's not like being standoffish or like fuck like get out of here like don't like don't be talking to me about like like she's she's down to like talk about that stuff with them and like kind of show like you know like that not all women are you know are are like that some women want it and some women you know like you said and you know Mike kind of sees it in in a little bit over his head but also kind of like catches like oh shit like what's going on here and as their studying goes on and on um eventually yeah Mike and Alicia oh yeah because the the the I think it's the the prom or another another dance is coming up for high school. Yeah prom. And so um Alicia offers to show Mike her dress which is like you know which was code for come beat this thing down.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah come see me get it get in and get out of it.

SPEAKER_02

Right. And so so she she invites him to his house.

SPEAKER_00

He's never been there he says and they're in the room she tries it on and uh and now babies they start kissing and and because Luther starts playing so they kind of set the mood it kind of got her a little reminiscing about them in their youth uh and yeah and so and so now that they're hooking up and they're about to get down and dirty uh he's he's got a condom a six month old condom yeah and he doesn't know how to put it on they start you know they go she looks at him with the condom she goes is this supposed to look like that I don't know uh yeah and obviously and they both are in relationships um too so but uh you can pull yourself smart go ahead don't don't worry about it let me refill yeah he's a little parked Trevor's a little parked we've been talking a bottle of champagne didn't stand a chance like Mike did when he finally got yeah no yeah all 15 seconds but yeah so um yeah he puts it on or whatever and then just you know naturally it breaks like two seconds in so then he has to go to Stacy's room because Alicia suggests oh I know Stacy has some yeah he goes to Stacy's room we haven't seen Stacy for a while in the movie right he's been in Miami and then finds the stash gets one then again naturally Stacy comes home with a neighborhood hood rat yeah brings her in and because Mike just took a rubber this crazy bra knew the count how is there kind of was missing yeah yeah he said there was four in there why is there three why is there three what's her name right they just they don't even come in four packs no more yeah and then and then they don't even come in four packs no more it's crazy and then he takes her home so he lucked out because Stacy was gonna whoop his ass.

SPEAKER_02

Right right I told you to date her not impregnate her yeah so he makes he that he after the trek the surviving the the Stacy encounter uh hiding under his bed while you know he he's about to get some but then due to due to Mike stealing the condom it starts a fight with Stacy and his you know his his broad and then it he they leave Mike makes it back to Alicia's room she's now in the covers ready to go you know because even when they when they first initiate the uh you know the love making you know Mike's in there with his jeans on his shoes he got the she's got the Nikes on like it's crazy. Yeah that was ghetto as shit dude didn't even take his pants off like he just went into the ankles yeah take the shoes off at least yeah and then so now he decides to he gets back in there takes his shirt off at least that dude was in there it was just through the zipper he was just he just he just let the dude he let his little man peek out and that was all he needed to do crazy that was crazy I was I was watching that I'm like that's crazy I was like you're gonna be sweating smelling like yeah you're a junior in high school you should at least right at least know to get get a little more off right you know I can at least be in your white beater yeah you know I mean white beater and nothing else that's what you want to do I was watching that watching that last night I was like damn the Nike's on that's crazy is nuts that's crazy because you see him poking out from the comfort right yeah he's like not even hanging on like on the bed all the way he's like his legs are hanging around the bed I'm like like just rushing like bro take make are you from Russia why are you rushing man take it take it slow exactly uh so yeah now he's back ready to go with with the fresh condom and they initiate the process again and so now they're they're ready to go he lasts a whole it lasts 56 seconds if that if that that's generous she said so that's it huh yeah damn damn honestly though like it's so funny to do something like that though right because you know you watch these movies and they have these sex scenes and you're like that's not always that's not really how it doesn't always go down like that or like that's not really what people are doing. And then this one it's like yeah when you're like a teenager it's your first time you're starting to you know figure it out like it's awkward it's short it's weird like it is it is it's not you like damn do I take my socks off like you like you you like what is really going on I've been at school all day my feet might stink like is that gonna is that gonna fuck yeah you know it's crazy it's it's a whole head head case you're in you know and you just took me back poor girl now I'm just like oh no poor girl I was thinking about that there's that shack quote or that video where where they're like their Ash Shack like what's the first thing you do in the morning so I get up I get up look over to her look over her to whoever's next to me in the bed and say hey you alright I'm just like oh no damn fuck not a biddy but yeah probably so yeah uh and uh so yeah so now so Mike has low key won the won the bet. Right but it counts it counts it counts I mean he you know no more champagne no more champagne we're trying to talk about this as respectfully as we can without being too vulgar but you know and also because they're kids so it's a little asterisk next it's a movie obviously it's a movie but it's a little asterisk next to it but yeah but it you gotta talk about it because you know you gotta kids have been there so you gotta make it you know this is stuff we what we experienced growing up you know when you're a teenager especially you know for women and men there's there's a lot of it's a lot a lot of in your head shit it's awkward right it's weird you're excited and you you think it's gonna be something that it right usually isn't right until 100% you know it takes practice 100 um and even even when repetition gotta get your jumpers up yeah bro gotta get in the gym and get the jumpers up you gotta get the conditioning man gotta get conditioned bro gotta get the shoes off though you gotta get the mic you gotta get the shoes off brother you can't you cannot have the have the the Nike on yeah that's ridiculous I'm sorry man I don't care how inexperienced you are the shoe is coming off is that's that's step one that's just diabolical shouldn't have gone to jail for that yeah bro like you're in that much of a hurry like I you I gotta you know I I I know it's gonna be about 45 seconds so I'm just gonna have him ready to go right when not when this is done. So yeah so Mike wins the bet but he because of his feelings for Alicia decides not to tell Roland and Slim and uh keeps keeps it to himself basically and does doesn't so even though he technically won he just he you know he wanted to be the good guy right and not kiss and tell what a good guy respect respectfully. So good for you man I guess that's a lot of money on the table man. True especially at that age shit I need that yeah right that's that's probably like maybe almost a hundred bucks note that was that was stretched back then yeah man that would have lasted you the whole thing he would have been straight for prom was right up the right up the way he would have been straight uh so now they're at the prom. You know Alicia and Mike basically are now they're now dating full like fully or they go to the prom together at least at the very least and Roland and Slim are there with their dates and and uh it was we kind of get like who these characters are going to be as they get older. Or Slim makes you know his statement about I I just can't see myself being tied. It doesn't make sense to be the one woman and and uh you know and that's kind of who he is as an adult like he's kind of talking about like I don't again I'm not tied down I'm not the one I don't want anything to do with this like marriage shit. And then yeah you know Roland's kind of giving his lover boy stance he's agreeing with Slim but like Loki's like I don't know like right he's tiptoeing he's one foot in one foot out yeah like he he's putting up the front yeah but Loki he wants out he wants to be in love and Mike you know is is in love you know he he's got the girl that he's got the girl that he wants and is just you know he he doesn't really agree with Slim but but they all have their own path basically and and you kind of see get the seeds of who they're gonna become and they're like who we're seeing in the adult the adult scenes basically right some foreshadowing going on for sure. What is it is uh what's the the line that Slim says he's like I can't even button my shirt all the way to the top without getting nervous like just doesn't want to be tied down. Imagine putting on a ring we all know people like that we all know people we all got friends that are just you know you can't can't keep them you know commitment they they run man yeah like it is what it is but uh and that's kind of you know that's that's kind of the end of the of the young of like their young scenes and and now when they're adults at the pizza parlor like they're basically like on slim like they've been on Slim the whole movie. Like Roland and Mike have been like Roland in particular has been fed up with his shit. You know he's you know and uh we start getting a bit of like the drama where like one of the big dilemmas is uh Roland's wife to be I guess has taken a job elsewhere which is gonna it's gonna cause him to leave boys yeah and Roland or Slim is is upset about that. Very um and you know they they they talk about how Mike and Alicia And that's when that gets brought up yeah and how like uh Alicia left went to school in I think New York and um you know Mike tries to well she went to college and then Slim's or Roland's like well you got accepted to us college and New York the same place. Like you but you didn't go why you know and and so he kind of you know there's there's that whole conversation so obviously there you know and I think they're at that point now where like you know I think you know I I'm I'm a I'm there I'm a little older than you but like you're probably getting there you're getting there I think soon where like your friends are starting to get you know in relations committed relationships married having children married it's kind of like oh man like this kind of it kind of it changes the way the friendship it changes the friendship you know you don't see them as often yeah uh it's different types of hangouts right and and when you're but it's needed though it's needed people you gotta grow up but then when you know maybe when you're the one who who isn't there isn't isn't it has has a family or committed or whatever it is again just because you don't doesn't mean you're doing something wrong it just means but when you see others kind of going down that path you're like fuck man like kind of like Slim he's like you're you're fuck you're breaking it up you're breaking it up like you're when you're kind of like the last one holding the bag of like the friend like this the friend circle you're kind of like ah man but but again like in the game like Mike Slim's just an idiot though yeah he's an idiot he's an idiot he's a grown ass man like Slim is crazy yeah but he was he was he was that character like you had to have that character in there I get why he did it and Mike although he's not you can kind of see the difference of like how they how they grew up because you can uh you see you see Slim he's the one saying like that but then you also have Mike who's in the same situation per se in terms of like not having kids or a wife right but he's not necessarily like opposed to it or like talking shit about it. You know what I mean so you got two you got both sides of the question he's more he's more reasonable for sure Mike right where slim is like slim slim is more like stuck a little dumbass and wants to get married and now you're bit now you're scared to get like he's kind of over here like what the fuck do you want to do basically like like you can't be one foot in one foot because he's like you're over here at Tanya's house what the fuck is going on right you know what I mean but and you know so it's like are you guys it's real though it's real I mean yeah it's real I mean we've all been there with our boys where somebody's fucking up and you're like yo what do you want to do? Right you can't don't be you're over here we've all had that homie come over or been that homie that's yeah crying about some girl that that you fucked up on you fucked over and they're your boys just like you or your boys are just like okay so why are you bitching? Like you're you you you caused this shit. You had a good girl you had a good person and you're out here in the streets.

SPEAKER_00

That's a cold mirror to looking that's a cold mirror to looking and that's the problem most people don't want to look at it but at the point you gotta be like yeah I did the bra dirty yeah shit it's everybody else's fault but mine exactly victim mentality they're tripping but why you're the reason you're the reason why it's happening and and uh and that and he did and the director did a good job on having all sides of the room on that you know I mean that was that's why it's a good ass movie yeah no for real like it's they're they're not they're not sugarcoating it and it's not like black and white like I said like Slim is very much like you're dumb for even getting married in the first place chasing this girl down to whatever wherever she's gonna go like you're stupid for doing that right but if you're gonna do that what are you doing at your ex's house right like call him out on his bullshit pick a lane yeah you know and uh you said like yeah yeah Mike is very like you know like let's hear him out but also at the same time like bro like you gotta figure it out make a decision what do you want to do and and Slim or Roland gets his shit together sobers up they go back to the house uh Mike and Roland or Mike and Slim have to basically convince the bride to be like to take him back and the dad the punk ass dad I'd be like man look I respect you get get up out of here though get out brought him by his ear and shit to the door baby baby yeah I can't even remember baby's name though the bride she uh uh Lisa yes yes yes yes yes yes she's she's pretty yeah she was in something too she was she's in a gang of movies yeah the players club players club yeah she was in that I remember her in that yeah I was watching her I'm like I'm like I've seen this girl in all kinds of stuff yeah the players club she was just in the year prior to that we should have done players club that's a cold movie yeah and then uh that's a real movie yeah we'll play's club bro I know a lot of I know a lot of girls from the players club yeah but this like because like in this movie came out in 99 this is like we're getting all the good ones man this is like yeah the first best men's around this time we're getting Best Man's 99 or 98 maybe loving basketball I think is like a year or two later 01 maybe um you know we're getting like still they got a groove back like all those movies are coming out right now man Friday like like it's it's starting to like we're getting all these like classes that we watch growing up and it's it's getting more into the into the uh into the era of like feel good black movies right a lot of the 80s and early 90s black movies were just focused on like just the straight the crack epidemic struggle boys in your boys in the hood your exactly I mean that's 90s but like yeah the 80s like you know we got the spike lead movies right yeah new jack city like all those type of movies and it's it's real don't get me wrong but it's like fuck like the same story like it's real don't get they're not all kingpins and dramatics but let's there's a lot of a feel good shit that happens in the neighborhoods too so let's so that's that I watched a uh uh uh interview and that was kind of why they brought Friday along because like yeah there's like the bullshit going on and shit motherfuckers getting shot and shit yeah but it was also like a feel good funny like not everything is always like yeah bullshit you know what I mean yeah sometimes and the best man is like that like all them are you know successful right people you know what I mean and it's not about just being in the hood and and and gangbanging and drugs and getting killed blah blah blah.

SPEAKER_02

Well it's like even with even with Friday right it's like they're in the hood but that doesn't mean they participate in the hood activities right they're they're around it and they're you know yeah smokey's a he's he sells a little bit of bud he smokes too much weed but he's just he's just he wants to hang out Craig you know maybe he had a job he had a job got fired his day off somehow but but but you know but like it it's like yeah exactly like in the 80s it would have that movie big perm would have been the main character or Debo would have been like that's the oh yeah this this and that's and that's why I think the wood was I'm not gonna say the but it was one of the movies that kind of spearheaded the like shift in black yeah movies you know I mean because they're all like successful they all went to SC at least they went to NYU that's a one of the like best schools you can go to and now they're having like a successful life and a wedding so that's also why I like the movie because it was because you know the whole coming of age thing all the you know they went through their shit but they figured out a way to get out of it. So there's a whole nother like side to it too there's a whole yeah I mean there's a whole conversation yeah that could that could be had about the how black cinema changes like and I feel like boys in the hood is is kind of like a good cap a on like yes these guys these boys are in the hood like Ice you know Doughboy is the gangster it's real you know you Got you've got the character Cuba Gooding Jr. is you know, he's kind of like kind of a Mike, but in a more dramatic space, right? Right, I agree. You know, you've got and then you know you got Ricky who's the you know, the the guy he's put he's the he's supposed to make it, and that's the and that's the tragedy, obviously, of of of that environment and that time in particular. Yeah, bro.

SPEAKER_00

I mean that it's crazy how that uh instrumental is like so like viral right now. Right. That whole the violins, yeah, yeah, yeah. Or the trumpets, whatever they call it.

SPEAKER_02

Um, but I mean, like you said, like I feel like this was like a needed change. Like, not every like yeah, I think it's important to have these movies, you know, it's important to have the slavery movies or the movies about the crack epidemic or the movies about you know the fun movies, you know, give like you know, black actors can should have their own scarface. Right. But it's like it can't just be that because then because then if it's a movie where it's a predominantly white cast or the black guy in there again, he's the funny guy, he's the best friend, he's the right horror movie is the first one to die. Like, you know, let's have a you know, because the wood, there's plenty of movies with white actors that like the wood, right? Where it's just guys being guys, hanging out, but it's like right, you know, everybody has goes through the same shit. Everybody, you know, we all come of age, we all have awkward first, you know, romantic encounters, we all do dumb shit with our friends, we all make dumb bets, we all everybody's able to go to call like everybody can be successful. They're successful white, Asian, brown, black people. Like, you know, let's show all that.

SPEAKER_00

You know, that's why this was a good movie.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and like I said, you like like it's way deep. The best man, it's cool, right? Because like it's not about like the the fuck I love, I fucking love the best man. That's my shit. Um, but it's like, yeah, they're all success successful people.

SPEAKER_00

And that's a star steady cast. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_02

It's you know that's a star steady cast. I love the best. We'll have to that one. Nia Long, bro. She is gorgeous. That is not another that woman is not ugly. Not even a little bit. Um, but you know, that that's I like like the wood again. It's just it's just it's a hangout movie, right? It's and again, like they're there is they're around some like in like Stacy is kind of the gangbanger character. They're around it, they're around, you know, smoking bud, this and that, but like they're not really participating in that.

SPEAKER_00

And there's another there's another option, is what the director was kind of going for it. There's another option, like, yeah, you can't necessarily completely escape it. Like, they got caught up in a whole ass armed robbery. Yeah, they're Inglewood, so you can't avoid it. That shit could happen, right? But they didn't succumb to it, and they went through a whole they went to a whole different, you know, path. You know what I mean? And now they're successful.

SPEAKER_02

Because the generic version is one of them becomes gets addicted to drugs, exactly, one of them's in jail or whatever it is, like, and that it doesn't need to be that. Like that. Just have them grow up and be people, uh, which is I appreciate, right? Like, it's cool to have that's why it's good to have the wood, just people hanging out, and just it's just it's about friendship. And these guys, they're just making mistakes that people make. Right. It's nothing that you can't come back from, just being an idiot. Uh, like you know, the big mistake is this guy just the big drama of the movie is this dude gets cold feet for his wedding. Right. He didn't cheat on his wife. Anybody could, yeah. Anybody could do that. He didn't actually do anything. He's you he just all the girls in the comic school.

SPEAKER_00

He's micro cheating, he's micro cheating. Yeah, which I wouldn't, I wouldn't necessarily disagree.

SPEAKER_02

I'm not saying he's yeah, what he did definitely wasn't right. Like, you definitely should not get cold feet and then go to your ex's house drunk as shit. Like, and he was, you know, he was grabbing at he was trying to grab her. Like he was being an idiot.

SPEAKER_00

Oh baby, I miss you, I'll be back.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, like he was being an idiot for sure.

SPEAKER_00

But then when he sobered up, he came back and and and was a man of his, you know, accepted what he did. He said, I'm I was tripping. He's like, but I appreciate you. Yeah, maybe that was the closure he needed. I I'm still kind of trying to analyze that specific situation. Like, what was the director trying to get through? Yeah, maybe you know, that was his coming of age in the movie, right? Like in the in the actual movie.

SPEAKER_02

So something he dealt with, you know, maybe, you know, maybe not in a wedding sense, but like getting serious with somebody.

SPEAKER_00

Um and at that the the uh scene you were talking about when they were at the uh pizza parlor and they were talking about it, that kind of brought us to like the last scene, pretty much. Right. Whereas they kind of went to Tanya's house, got him up, and then they took him back home, right? Right. And the dad took him to the room and he begged.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so I think Mike and Slim have to like convince her to hear him out, and then the dad brings yeah, brings him up and and uh Roland has to, you know, make his apologies to her, and you know, all the girls in there obviously give him the uh-huh, like look at this fucking joker, like get him out of here, like you're better than that. Which you know, and granted, like that's warranted, like 100%. Fucked up. Like the day of your wedding to do bullshit like that, like you would want your bride to be his girls and be like, you don't want them to be like, oh yeah, take him back. Like you want them to be like, no, fuck this guy, like yeah, we gotta fucking, you know, you deserve better. And and she does, and but he works it out, whatever, whatever bullshit he had in his head has been cleared up, and the wedding continues, they get married, and uh you know it's it's uh then we could we get Sinat Latin shows up as Alicia, growing up Alicia, Mike is smitten again, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

They share it, they share a you know eye-to-eye contact. That was kind of like in the like pre-ceremony, I guess. Right, yeah. He sees it before. So they don't really speak, and then he makes the speeches during the vows and the best man speech, and then they share a a a great last, you know, a little dance, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And basically kind of give the little hint that he asked about New York, she's living in New York, and you know, how cold is it? Right, right, right, right. Kind of hinting that, you know, maybe I I could go out there and maybe I could put up with the cold. Future for them. Uh, and then you know, we the movie closes essentially on on the the best man speeches. Slim gives his you know some little half-ass good luck. You know, obviously he's you know doesn't know, doesn't like the whole uh commitment thing, but you know, he's Jen just his himself, and then Mike gives kind of the the final lines of the movie uh just you know again reiterating the story. These are his brothers, and and you know, this closing out this one's for the wood. Right. Uh which you know, nice, great ending. Just again and centering on the friendship. And uh, you know, we get we get the you know, Slim is still Slim, which is fine. He he uh he's obviously happy with him himself, his choices, Roland's guy and shit together, and now Mike potentially has a future with Alicia in New York, and you know, and again, it's just yeah there's all the little problems have been resolved, and it's just it's a nice ending again, just centering on the three main characters and and their friendship and ultimately like growing up together. We're now we're moving on to this next phase of our life, and but we're always you know, we'll always have this our home and our memories.

SPEAKER_00

Everybody did all right.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, everybody did all right, man.

SPEAKER_00

Everybody got home safe.

SPEAKER_02

It's great. I would have loved to have seen what Stacy was up to, though. There should have been like a stinger, like where's where's Stacy at?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, or maybe that's kind of like what the director wanted to make you think. Like, you know, some people not not everybody can make it, not everybody can go, Kane. Yeah, so yeah, you know, it's all it's all it's it is what it is. Yeah, man. You know, there's just it's just shows you like the different paths, whatever. But yeah, it was a good ass movie. I love that movie.

SPEAKER_02

Something else that we haven't even brought up yet, too, is is the soundtrack.

SPEAKER_00

Also is bro, I was literally gonna say that because the ending song, the Blackstreet song, I'm like, bro, damn, they were slapping on this fucking movie.

SPEAKER_02

I was watching last night, and the yeah, the credits start rolling, and I'm like, I haven't heard the song in forever. I'm like straight banger.

SPEAKER_00

And they don't do, and what I like is like they the artist, other than that, like that Luther song, obviously, but the the artist that you like Blackstreet, like when you think of Blackstreet, you think of like no diggity, like yeah, you know what I mean? Don't leave her. But like they were playing like under like you said, it's kind of similar to like the kind of movie it is. It's a slept, not a slept on, but like underrated, kind of underrated movie, underappreciated, yeah. Yeah, they're bringing underappreciated songs by those artists too. I like that.

SPEAKER_02

I think like the biggest song, minus like the Lutheran, obviously. I think that but even it's not even like a like a big song of the movie, is that they have I think Joe, I want to know is playing, but like it's not like a centerpiece song. But I think even at the time when that when it was on here, that song wasn't even what it was. It wasn't popular. I think that's I think it charted because of this soundtrack 100.

SPEAKER_00

So like kind of put Joe, but not put Joe on, but kind of put that song on.

SPEAKER_02

That song, and now now that's like that's like one of like the R like if you go to an RB bar, like you know, you listen to DJ playing RB.

SPEAKER_00

It's a little bit of Hennessy, uh, you're gonna be feeling that song.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you've got they play Joe, you know. Um, but yeah, that Black Street song at the end for sure. I'm just like, oh man, this is this is a straight banger, dude. Like, yeah, the soundtrack's great, and just the music that they play throughout. You get the um uh you know, they played juicy, but like the the the the the the original version, not not the biggie version, like what he what they sampled, like all that stuff. Right. Um yeah, I mean it it's a it's a it's a great soundtrack. I mean it's it's kind of you can't it's in the 90s, early 2000s, if you're making a black movie, you gotta have soundtrack on deck.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, gotcha. Come on, man.

SPEAKER_02

Like and this movie it was uh MTV production, like the MTV logos at the beginning, so they uh that's gotta help too, right? To get some of the good music in there. So yeah, man, I mean that I was just listening, I was watching it back. I'm like, yeah, man, you don't appreciate these soundtracks, like you know, because these some of these songs too, like now we're like we have our relationship with these songs now, again, like the I Wanna Know Joe. So like we all that's a classic for us, but again, like that it was probably just a song on his album at the time, and now it's like oh this is one of Joe's right just that was that was modern day TikTok.

SPEAKER_00

You know how a TikTok can blow a song up, a cinema back in the day, because back in the day everybody's going to the movies, you know, to watch the new release. Yeah, exactly. That was how you can get your song blown up, and right, yeah. They did it, they did it.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, like obviously, this is a much different lane, but like the power of that is right, like something like the Bee Gees, they were up and coming, you know, pop pop group, uh, and then they Saturday Night Fever comes along, and that basically that's that's what makes the Bee Gees the Bee Gees. So it's like that's how powerful. Yeah, really I didn't know that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, damn, that's interesting.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they I mean they they were they were on the they were on the come up, but Saturday Night Fever, and then working on that soundtrack. Put them over the hill. That's what makes them global superstars, and like, but again, that's that's the power of what a movie can do if it's a big movie or even if it's an underrated movie, but it puts you onto an artist or a singer. Like, I mean, there's so many instances of that where I've watched a movie. I'm like, well, what song is this? You know, and then and then it Right, Shazammy real quick. The song became, you know, like you know, I mean, recently, like something is like more mainstream, but like you think of like the Spider-Verse movie, the Sunflower song of post-below and swaying, right? Like that's like synonymous with that movie, but like you know, that's a it's a good song, but it's like you're like, oh man, like in the movie it works so well, and then it kind of just gets kind of drilled into your brain, like, oh, this is a good song. Like it just brings you back to this movie, like where that Blackstreet song, now I'll hear it. I'm like, oh yeah, that's the wood, right there, you know. Uh exactly. Um, so something like Friday or Best Man, you know, there's you know, every time I think of Best Man, everything every time I watch Best Man, like the electric slide, the um cameo, that right away. I'm just like Best Man every time to the point where like if I'm at a wedding and they play a song, I'm like, oh yeah, it's our best man moment. Let's go. Like, um, yeah, man.

SPEAKER_00

You watched the sequel, right? Best man holiday?

SPEAKER_02

I watched the holiday, and then there was a TV show and then the TV show spin-off, bro. Yes, bro. I'm all about Best Man. I fucking.

SPEAKER_00

Morris Chessnut was a little ho.

SPEAKER_02

In the spin-off, he was grieving. The Best Man Holiday is fucking so sad. It's sad as shit. I remember watching that, and I'm like, at the end, I'm like kind of tearing.

SPEAKER_00

I'm like, what the f yeah and it's fucked up because it's a mandatory Christmas movie. Absolutely. But Christmas movie is supposed to be like joyful, yeah. And it's it's not that it's not yeah, it's not that it's not joyful because it was beautiful how his his his village was there for him after that, right? But that moment was sad. It's like, nah, me, uh, damn. That was fucked up, bro.

SPEAKER_02

That was fucked up.

SPEAKER_00

That was uh, yeah, but I we gotta do we gotta do uh best man and then best man holiday them both, yeah, dude.

SPEAKER_02

We just do the do the whole best, yeah. I fucking love the best man. I I do like I saw that movie when I was younger too, like, and just being like, what is this? Like, and I just I just you know, in that movie too, it's kind of like the wood where these actors like you're gonna see them later on. You got like Regina, a young, young Regina Hospital. Oh, yeah, you know, Morris, like this, like Morris Chestnut. Tay Diggs is kind of on the come up already, like Terrence Howard is doing some crazy shit in that movie, man. Like uh Yeah, he was crazy. Yeah, Harold Perrinew, like all those guys. I mean, even though yeah, the woman the females in that cast are great too. You got yeah, yeah, Nia Long, like just just great.

SPEAKER_00

I can't even think of Mia's name, but she was in a few movies.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, they were all at that point.

SPEAKER_00

And then even the uh the little fast one, damn, I can't remember her name, but she was in a few movies. Yeah, yeah. They all they all kind of that was their that was their their their kickoff though for sure.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it was cool. I remember, yeah, the because they got the best man holiday came out, it's like 10, not even like 15 years later or something like that. But at this point, all those actors are way more established. Yeah, um, and then when they kind of came out and did the the TV show too, I was like, oh like it was a good way to end it, make it modern. You know, they do they do a little bit of the modern stuff on there, yeah. It was good. Um but yeah, no, I love those movies, dude. I love those movies. I I love like like I love like this Christmas. Like, I love like it just Christmas is my shit, dude. I love it.

SPEAKER_00

I was a star study, man. It's crazy because like they always get they I feel like they kind of have to, they have to get a star study cast to like put on, but yeah, that was like one of Chris Brown's probably first movies.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I remember because that's I think that's like he does that movie after Stomp the Yard. Yeah, Lauren London's in that Idris Elba, Columbus Short comes back from Stomp the Yard. So it's like it's a it's a little Stomp the Yard reunion between them, um Makai Pfeiffer, Delroy Lindo's in that. Like it's it's a that's a stat cast as well, dude. Like, I love I love it.

SPEAKER_00

The mom, the mom is oh yeah, yeah. I can't remember her name, but she's in hella shit. Yeah, she's always she was in the color purple. I'm quite sure. Yeah, she's yeah, she was in she was in hella shit.

SPEAKER_02

She's great, she's fucking great. Um, yeah, bro. I mean, like again, this was these are like you send me a list and all these movies you like.

SPEAKER_00

And which one did I send? Did I put Love Jones in there? You put Love Jones is one of my favorite understanding.

SPEAKER_02

You didn't put Love Jones in there, but that's a great one. Yeah, you had like again, Love and Basketball, Higher Learning. That's another good movie. High Learning's my shit. I remember seeing that on TV one day. It was on it must have been like on TV.

SPEAKER_00

Buster Ron's was turned up in that movie. Ice Cube's crazy in that movie.

SPEAKER_02

That's a good movie. Uh yeah, you put the wood, Soul Food, Poetic Justice. Soul Food is one of my favorite movies ever. Drumline's a classic. Baby Boy's a classic. Uh yeah. Yeah, I like yeah, Baby Boy's cool. That's the same director as Boys in the Hood. Yeah. So it's kind of like he's doing like the hood thing again. John Singleton. Is that Singleton? Yeah, yeah, yeah. John Singleton again, and he's kind of he's doing the hood thing again, but it's more, it's a different, different kind of lane, different vibe, different vibe for sure than Boys in the Hood. Boys in the Hood is more tragic, I guess. Whereas Boy Baby Boy is kind of a more comedic look, but still gets kind of the nitty-gritty, but yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And then also shows like you can do some entrepreneurship if you really bring your mind to it. Right. You know what I mean? When you kind of have that like shift in mindset like Jody had, but yeah, oh Tyrese. Oh Tyrese. Higher learning, yeah. I put Higher Learning.

SPEAKER_02

Higher Learning's crazy. That's a crazy movie. Yeah, Higher Learning's crazy. That's a trip-down movie.

SPEAKER_00

That's kind of like a first, like, you know. I don't know the dates, I don't want to speak false facts, but I'm guessing that it had to have been some type of like influence from Columbine. Columbine had to have happened before that movie.

SPEAKER_02

I'm sure yeah, I think so. Because Higher Learning, that's Singleton too. Yeah, um, singleton, man. That's that guy, he made some good movies, dude. Yeah, that higher learning is like I think it might be early 2000s. 90 95. So it's yeah, it's gotta be a response to something. But I mean, that movie that movie takes a turn right there. Yeah, exactly. I'm trying to see low.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, Higher Learning was oh no, Higher Learning was before.

SPEAKER_02

Oh wow, yeah, it's January. That's right, yeah, yeah. It was later. Yeah, wow. I mean, well, there's damn.

SPEAKER_00

I wonder what I wonder. Shit, maybe that influence called this place.

SPEAKER_02

There must have been something.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I wonder what happened.

SPEAKER_02

And that's Omar Epps, too. Yeah, Omar Epps is in there, yeah, 100%. Ice Cube, Tyra, Virginia King, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Virginia King's in there. Virginia King is the one that could call the the the black B word, and that's when they went over to the house. Right, that's right. Start tripping. That's right. Buster Rhymes is ready to go up.

SPEAKER_02

Buster Rhymes, man. Yeah, he's in there going to be a good thing. What a guy. What a guy. What an actor. Hell yeah. Um, yeah, man. I mean, there's a whole there's a whole catalog of classic black movies. Uh I I mean, I I I watch them so much, like it like again, it's like a recurring joke, but like, yeah, the best man, this Christmas. Yeah, I just I just did all these all the dance movies uh on the show a couple weeks ago. So we did like we covered like all the step-ups, but I was I was making jokes about how like this the step up movies, all the main characters are always white. Right. But then you get like something like Stomp the Yard or You Got Served, whereas You Got Served is kind of corny now, but the dance scenes are crazy. But Stomp the Yard, I think Stomp the Yard is actually like genuinely a pretty pretty decent movie.

SPEAKER_00

I'm pretty sure the girl in Stomp the that's gonna sound crazy. Megan Good. But I'm pretty sure no, not her fine ass. The I mean not Stomp of the Yard, uh, You Got Served. Oh, yeah, yeah. The the sister, Marcus Houston's sister, right? Marcus Houston's a fucking weirdo, by the way. But Marcus Houston's sister, Marcus Houston's sister was the girl, the love interest in The Luck of the Irish on Disney Channel. Fact check me on the channel. I fact check you right now. You might be right. Fact check me on that. I'm pretty sure she's in Luck of the Irish, bro. You know that also Disney.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely, absolutely. I know that movie. Uh let's see if that's her. It might be. She's in something else, like notable that I just don't remember what.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe she wasn't that girl. I don't know. But they look alike.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe not, maybe not. I'm trying to see what she was in something else, though, because like she's come up. Oh no, that's not her. Quick fact check.

SPEAKER_00

She was in a gang of movies, though.

SPEAKER_02

She's in something else, too. That was like, Oh, I know, I know who you are. Uh that movie's weird. That movie, I swear to god, man. What you got served? You guys at the end. Um, oh, she's in. Oh, she was oh, she's she's in my wife and kids.

SPEAKER_00

She's oh the daughter.

SPEAKER_02

She's the daughter. That's that's what she's in.

SPEAKER_00

Damn, she looks hella burnt out now.

SPEAKER_02

I'm sure it's been a while. Years of abuse. It's it's been a while.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, she was in my wife and kids.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, she's in that real husbands of Hollywood show. That show was kind of funny. It got kind of dumb at the end. The one with Kevin you say that with Kevin Harvard. It was too much.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, she she wasn't in too much. She's cool though. But yeah, that was that was a cool movie. I mean, at the time I honestly forgot like the whole plot of that movie. I forgot they start selling dope and shit. Yeah, it's ridiculous, bro. It's ridiculous.

SPEAKER_02

And then at the at the end, it's ridiculous. It's ridiculous. And then at the end, they're selling drugs to fund their breakdancers.

SPEAKER_00

Right, right. I forgot about that shit.

SPEAKER_02

And then the interview got served. The part that made me like cringe the most was was when I guess now Marcus Houston is approving of their he's doing the Stacey is approving of uh his Omarion dating his sister, and they they go at the very end, they like they shake hands like to be respectful in front of Marcus Houston. He's like, he needs all like, no, I know you got more something more for my for for your girl. And like they just start like open mouth, open tongue, like kissing and making eyes. And he's over here, like he's like looking at them, like smiling, like licking his lips. I'm like, bro, what kind of shit is going on here, man? Some weird ass shit going on. This is not right.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, I'm gonna tell you what, I'm gonna tell you a movie. Let's go. Fit feel the noise with Omarion. It was when he got he got in trouble, like in New York or something, and then his his mom sent him to Puerto Rico with his dad.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think I've seen that movie.

SPEAKER_00

You gotta watch that movie. It's a it's a it's a it's like a low-key, it's a fucking broke ass movie. Feel the noise. Let's Omarion's in that? Yes, bro. You gotta watch that shit. It's a cool little movie. It's just like a it's like a comfort movie. It's not you're not you're not gonna get the best, you know, directing, the best, like, you know, I'll have to check that out quality, whatever, but it was it was it was a good movie.

SPEAKER_02

Omarion. What a guy. I got a little game for you.

SPEAKER_00

Let's go. Alright. I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go fire, right? And you gotta just kind of choose whatever you think is better. Let's do it. First. Okay, here we go. First, let's go. Alright. And these are gonna be all over the place. Let's do it. There's not a there's not a certain genre, yeah. Alright, let's go. Okay. The godfather or Pope Fiction?

SPEAKER_02

The Godfather.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. The Godfather or Shaw Shank Redemption.

SPEAKER_02

Ooh. The Godfather. I'll stay there.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. The Godfather or Forrest Gunn. Damn.

SPEAKER_02

Honestly, I'm gonna get shitted on, but no, you know what? I'm gonna say The Godfather.

SPEAKER_00

Godfather, okay.

SPEAKER_02

They're waiting. He's waiting.

SPEAKER_00

Godfather, or let's go the same route. Goodfellas.

SPEAKER_02

Goodfellas.

SPEAKER_00

Goodfellas, okay. Mando. Goodfellas or Titanic. Damn.

SPEAKER_02

I love you, Titanic, but I'm gonna stay with Goodfellas.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Goodfellas or the Green Mile.

SPEAKER_02

Ooh. Oh, I gotta say, man. Goodfellas, sorry. It's too good. It's too good.

SPEAKER_00

Goodfellas or the the first Back to the Future.

SPEAKER_02

Damn. I'm gonna go back to the Future now. Back to the Future. I should rewatch right there.

SPEAKER_00

Back to the Future Future or Django?

SPEAKER_02

Ooh. Django.

SPEAKER_00

Django's a good ass movie. That's a great movie. Django or the Wolf of Wall Street?

SPEAKER_02

Ooh, Wolf of Wall Street. All day. Damn, easy. Yeah. I love Django, but Wolf of Wall Street that's that's cinema right there.

SPEAKER_00

Wolf of Wall Street or Interstellar? Damn. Interstellar's a good ass movie.

SPEAKER_02

Honestly, probably right now, my this point in my life, Interstellar.

SPEAKER_00

Interstellar or The Dark Knight with Keith Ledger.

SPEAKER_02

Damn. I think I'd stay Interstellar. I love The Dark Knight, but I'd stay Interstellar right now. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Interstellar or Fight Club?

SPEAKER_02

David Fincher's my boy, but I'm gonna stay Interstellar on Fight Club. Or over Fight Club right now.

SPEAKER_00

Interstellar or No Country for Old Men?

SPEAKER_02

No Country for Old Men all day. That movie is hard. That's one of the greatest movies ever, right there.

SPEAKER_00

I only got three more.

SPEAKER_02

Let's go.

SPEAKER_00

No country for old men or Rocky.

SPEAKER_02

No country.

SPEAKER_00

No country or and I see this right here. Endgame.

SPEAKER_02

Damn. Damn. I'll stay no country.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, last one. I'm it's kind of weak. No country or Jaws. Jaws is a fun movie.

SPEAKER_02

Jaws is a fucking that's a masterpiece. I'll stay no country. I love Jaws. No country. No country's that's that's that's a cool list. That's a great that's a great list. All over the place a little bit. It is, but you know what? Those are all movies that I enjoy a lot. There you go. Oh, that's cool. Alright, man, that's cool. Um, yeah, bro. I mean, the like I said, like the wood is not a it's not an overly complicated movie, but again, it's the the themes in the movie I think are really, really, really strong. And uh again, yeah, male friendship and watching it now in my ther early 30s, you know, again you got the co you got your core group of friends and just kind of reminiscing on the things you got up to when you were a kid and uh just the awkwardness uh of growing up and yeah the shit you get into with your boys, like it's just it resonates.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_02

And you know, and I I I think there are some movies like this for girls as well. Um I don't know if there's uh you know, I feel like that there's probably there isn't like there isn't a lot of comms for women, especially like growing up. I'm sure there are some, but not as notable. But like I feel like for guys in particular, like just because you know, men growing up, man, like there's just there's a lot can go wrong. Yeah, it's a whole different thing. Very quickly.

SPEAKER_00

And it's it's it's you know, each gender, whatever. Like men and women, they both have their, you know, certain battles that they might go through or obstacles that are kind of like inevitable for being a man or being a woman. Like it's just it is it is what it is. Right. But um, yeah, it's much, it's different though. It's much different. There's definitely some similarities, but it's much different. Right. Like, and some of them are connected. Like as a young man, if you have a baby young, well, guess what? You're having it with a young woman. So like you're connected in that way, you know what I mean? But it's definitely different.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's a different it's a different situation. And uh I mean, there have been women, there have been movies about like adult male friends, adult female friendships. There's I'm thinking like girls' trip, like recently, like that's like that's a good one, you know. But like you know, like a lot of coming of age for women, like I can't think of one off the top of my head right now. I'm sure there's something I'm forgetting, but like um, you know, I I think again as far as like male friendship, like there's there's a couple, like this is this is one that I I think back of often, like for sure. Like the wood. Like, I think it captures that awkwardness and just corniness that you kind of go through, and just that it's a little try-hard uh attitude you have, you know, and obviously, like you know, you get as guys get older, and we're you know, guys, we're I mean, we're fucking we're stupid.

SPEAKER_00

We are dumb, we are dumb creatures, dumb as fucking doorknob.

SPEAKER_02

And you know, like and honestly, like having a daughter puts a lot into perspective for me now. Like, just I'm just like, oh man, like just do not ever meet a guy like me or my friends.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, stay away from the same shit with my nieces. I'm like, please, Lord Jesus.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, just stay away from Uncle Trev loves you, but don't ever you know. Don't find Uncle Trevor, I promise you. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Not not younger Trev, anyways. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Lord have mercy. Yeah, and uh just you know, again, like who's gonna lose their virginity first and who's gonna get the most numbers? And it's like, man, like I promise you guys growing up, like it doesn't, it really doesn't matter at all. It doesn't matter, it means nothing ultimately. I mean, it's in the moment you might it means everything, or you think it's fun, and I'm not saying guys or women or whoever don't have fun, like enjoy your youth, right? Don't hurt no just don't hurt anybody on purpose. But drive slow though.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, drive slow. It's no need to put on put your foot on the gas. Yeah, you'll get there. Not going nowhere.

SPEAKER_02

You'll get there. There's plenty of like it goes by quick, but just you know, enjoy enjoy time.

SPEAKER_00

And uh I think it encapsulates that for sure.

SPEAKER_02

Right. And I think for me, it's like thinking back to like, you know, like sure, like we all have those moments where we think about how we were or acted or things we did when we were in, you know, we were in school or younger, and you some maybe sometimes you wish you could have done something differently or enjoyed something more. But again, it's just a reminder to remind you and the younger generation, like, you know, just just uh enjoy it because it goes by quick and make the most of it, have fun and be respectful. Most importantly, uh have to. But um and just you know, hold on to those friendships, man, because because uh it it's not it's not easy to get to get friendships like that, you know, with with uh you know, because just so much so much shit happens and people people change so much from their life happens, life happens and and everybody goes in different directions and you know it doesn't mean every direction's wrong. Uh you know, maybe some are better than others or you know, or just different.

SPEAKER_00

Um sometimes people in your life for a season, not a reason. Right. That's just how it goes. That's life.

SPEAKER_02

Oh but you know what? Like, you know, like it also like you know, and to get a little get all get in my feels, but like it makes you this this movie for sure. Like remember it, you know, the the I watched it with two with two friends when I was younger. It was like this was like our movie when we watched it, and I I you know to in this day and age, I'm not close with both of them. I'm not uh my friendship with them is not the same as it was when you guys watched it. We watched it, and it's not the same as like even like I you know, I'm still close to Pablo, you know, I don't talk to Ricky as much, but like it make even like you know, even though I missed that, like it's still uh but I'm I'm grateful for those moments that we watched and enjoyed this and you won't forget those and the jokes and conversations that this movie caused or or or or that we had because because of this movie and and watching it together. Um and it just it makes me makes you value the friendships you have with you know, and and you're lucky because you know it's it's hard as you get older and people lives again, like we talked about earlier, people grow up, yeah, start families, move they move, they you know, have children, whatever, or whatever it is that goes on their life, people you know pass away or whatever, you know, or whatever it is. Like the fact that you have people in your life and you're adult, like you know, uh adult male friendship is important. Yeah, I think. I mean, I think adult friendship in general for anyone is important, like because I feel like it's just easy to get older and and lose contact with people and then you're kind of just get stuck in the routine. But it's good to have those close friendships like that, you know, people you can call, not just your friends, but your brothers. Yeah, I know you've got that. I've got that, thankfully. Uh, because you need that.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah, you need that support system. Yeah, for sure. 100%.

SPEAKER_02

There's this thing sometimes that your family, your family's, you know, and you gotta think you've got a family you're you're thick of seas with. I got a family I'm thick of C's with. Like like they would do anything for you, you would do anything for them. But some there's just there's just some shit you gotta you gotta run by the friend group before you know. There's some things you aren't gonna go to your your mom or your sister or your brother, whoever to like right. Um it's just it's just how it is, you know. And and same with them, like they've got their people that they gotta go, they gotta, they probably want to bring something to then not to you or whoever else. Like, so it's good to have that. And I think a movie like this, just that those themes and that kind of feel feel good, right? And you're like, Yeah, I'm glad the friendship worked out. Yeah, they did it 100%. Um, yeah, man. I mean, I I love this movie. That's why I was I was excited to talk about it with you.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I was I was honestly surprised you chose it, but now hearing this, it makes sense. Yeah, it makes sense. Yeah, man.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I love these kind of underseen ones because it's just like give them some credit, give them credit, like check them out and uh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

If you haven't watched The Wood for sure, check it out. Great movie. Omar Ebbs, Tay Diggs, Sanaya, baby. It's a great movie. Great movie.

SPEAKER_02

Sanaa. I remember the first time I saw her uh was a movie called Alien vs. Predator. She's the lead of that. Uh that's the first time I think I've ever seen her in anything. I remember even watching that. You know, that's like that's like a sci-fi action movie, horror movie, and she's like, she's the lead character. She's kicking ass the entire movie, and I'm like, damn, I love that girl. And then I watched like I would watch these, I'd watch, I watched The Wood, the best man after, you know, love and basketball. And I'm like, oh my god, this girl, she's been in all kinds of great shit, you know? Yeah, yeah, man. It's it's uh I love her a lot. Love her a lot, man. She's a good ass actor, too. Oh no, she's she's a great actress, she's a great, great, great actress. I mean, love and basketball is a fucking classic. That's a straight classic, right there. Um, there's a whole genre here we could branch out into. Like we talked a lot a little about uh we our love for the best man trilogy, or yeah, pretty trilogy pretty much. There's a you know, two movies and a a TV show, uh Friday. Um, but it was cool having you on here, man, and kind of getting these movies with uh, you know, I I love these movies, but I'm I'm not I am not uh I'm I'm a whitewashed Mexican, so I have a perspective on it, but you know, I it's good to have people that actually have some. There's that can bring kind of their perspective to it over here.

SPEAKER_00

Um we definitely gotta do a uh like I said, that would be a cool.

SPEAKER_02

I'm down, man. I'm down. I love it. Yeah, for for sure, bro. That gotta this Christmas, gotta do uh you know, all kinds of shit, bro. Um, but yeah, man, I mean, as we're kind of wrapping up here and uh out of champagne, um knock that bottle back. That's crazy. Um yeah, anything you've watched recently that you you you've been digging a lot or you love a movie, show, music, whatever, something you've engaged with recently that recently you're fucking with a lot.

SPEAKER_00

To be honest, I've been just kind of I I'm I'm kind of ashamed to say it, but not ashamed, but I've been I've been watching some reality TV. Okay, and I've been watching just I've been watching where I just finished Temptation Island. Okay, that shit is. That's the Netflix one. That's a Netflix one, it's a trip, bro. Like it's basically about like four couples that they come to an island on Hawaii, and they separate, right? The girls go one way and the butt, the men go the other way, and they go into a villa where there's like a dozen single and they're relationship in relationships, they're in relationships, right? Rocky relationships, right? But they're in relationships and they they they leave their significant other, and each uh, you know, men and women respectively go to a villa that's filled with a dozen you know opposite genders, basically trying to tempt them. So the guys are with a bunch of girls and the girls with a bunch of guys, and uh throughout the experience, or whatever it's recorded, and uh at the end of each week or whatever, the girl, the each each group goes to a bonfire, and the host basically shows them a little a snippet of whatever they're up to in the other villa. But it can be it's it's without context, really, because you don't you know they kind of chop it up to show you what they want to show you, right? And um it's just crazy that a couple would really think that's the and I mean I get it, it's reality TV, and there's obviously alter alternative you know motives, but uh um I think some of them kind of do think like this is good for all this shit. Like this should be a good go do that shit at the bar, go let his ass loose and fucking TV for a little bit and see how he does. Yeah, but it's like you know that shit's crazy. But other than that, I've watched um oh my god. Let me see. I'm pretty sure it's called uh Bambi. Let me I'm gonna get re-roll. Like the horror movie? No, no, no. So this is a this is a uh this is a Netflix oh man, what is that called? This is a Netflix TV show. Um I can't remember which island it's in. Bandy. It's called Bandy. Bandy. Bandy. And um it's in it's it's in an island. I can't even tell you, but it's a French island. Like owned by the French. So they speak French. But it's all black dudes. It's like they look like dark-skinned Africans, right? They speak French. Um colonization shit, whatever. And so basically it's about this family of like nine or ten kids. And in a nutshell, I won't give you the whole synopsis, but in a nutshell, the mother, like the first episode, the mother, it's a the dad's in prison, right? And so this mother, she's a single mother with ten kids, some old, some young. You know what I mean? One of them's like in his 30s with a wife, and the youngest one is like uh four. Oh yeah. And um basically the mother goes to deliver fruit. It's like real third world country type shit.

SPEAKER_02

It's it's a reality or it's like a drama. It's like a drama series. It's a series, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It's a drama series. And uh the mother goes to deliver fruit to sell because she has like a fruit stand. Okay, and um she ends up getting hit because she's on her moped. Uh oh. And she ends up getting hit and died. Oh shit. So it leaves the family to the cell to themselves. Or the kids to themselves to defend for themselves. And um, you know, half of them are old, so they don't older, so they don't they don't need to get put in foster. But the kids, yeah, the the city workers basically come and say, if you can't take care of these kids, we're gonna take them and put them with uh, you know, their aunt. And they don't want them to go with their aunt. And basically one of them is like, fuck this, I'm gonna go get get this money, how I know how to and he gets in the streets or whatever, and it just well, two of them do, but one of them is like going under an alias and nobody knows who he is, and him and his brother kind of start beefing, but the brother doesn't know he's beefing. Oh he's basically beefing with his own. He's beefing with the with the name with the name. Not knowing that that's who that is. Exactly, not knowing it's his brother, but his brother knows, so that's the only reason his brother ain't took his head off yet. Right. And it it's a lot more into it, but you gotta watch it. It's it's all in front of it. You gotta watch it in French, though. Yeah, because you can you know how Netflix you could change it to it doesn't hit the same. It's like Squid Games, yeah. I can't do that. Other shows, like you gotta watch it in French and just read the subtitles and shit.

SPEAKER_02

It doesn't work when you change like when you you can either put the sub, like you obviously the subtitles, but like if you change the the dialogue, yeah, it doesn't, it just it doesn't hit the same.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, exactly. So I watched that. That sounds that sounds interesting as hell. Yeah, it's cool. And then obviously the new Euphoria low-key though. I like to wait. I'm crazy. I like to wait for them to all come out so I can just binge them. Right. I'm not gonna sit here and wait.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I'm cool, I'm not doing that. Yeah, we've been watching Euphoria too. Yeah, so I'll wait for the for the new the new uh or all this episodes that come out.

SPEAKER_02

Have you you haven't watched any of it yet? I haven't watched any of it. Okay, okay. So you're you're just staying away from it for a bit.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I like to just because I'm not about to yeah, just get it done. I need to see them in one go. Yeah, I'm not about to be sitting here biting my nails. So yeah, that, but yeah, man, really just what comes up. I know I'm missing a bunch. The shampoo canet is probably making me making my memory a little fit foggy, but yeah, really, I just whatever comes on and I see, I'm like, oh, that sounds interesting. I'll watch it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. But that's not that that Bambi should that bandy show sounds sick. I mean, I'll probably check that out for sure. For sure. Yeah, no, I get I get the whole reality television thing, man. Um, I remember it's entertainment. It's entertainment. Sometimes you need like you just need a you need a a mind brain, turn my brain off. Let me just sit down and watch this dumb shit. Like people act like idiots. Uh I get that. So a couple years ago, you know, because I was very like, I mean, you know, growing up, I watched like Jersey Shore and all that shit. Obviously, we all did, but like I didn't I didn't watch it for a while. I was you know, I was all a proper cinema watcher. I I watched but I watch a lot of like heavy dark shit too sometimes. And uh my wife Priscilla started watching Vanderpump Rules, and uh I I was like, I'm not gonna watch this shit, you know. It's pretty, it's honestly very entertaining. I would check it out for sure. Um and there was like seven seasons of it, and she started watching it. You know, I'm over here like half watching it, like you know, just like doing something else. Like, I'm not gonna watch this shit. And then of course, like a few episodes in, I'm like hooked. So then we watched like seven seasons of that shit. Um, but it was nice to watch it because like I had you know, again, I watched a lot of like I watch everything, but I like I lean more towards like thriller, darker dramas. You know, I've seen I don't know how many at that point I was like, I have seen so many shows about kids getting kidnapped or killed or wives being murdered, like just like so much dark shit. I was like, I just needed a break. So I get the reality, and again, it's it's entertainment, it's just like you know it's like you know it's like it's reality, quote unquote, but but uh again, like it's it's just nice to watch people act like idiots some once in a while. Yeah, um, but that's cool, man. Yeah, I get that. Yeah, what have I watched? I don't really I haven't watched anything super reality recently. I like half I like half watched that secret live of a Mormon Wives show with my wife, but I don't like keep up with it.

SPEAKER_00

Didn't that girl get in trouble? Like one of the main girls like beat her husband. In front of the kid, though, right?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, like there, I think one of the it was some crazy man, crazy. Yeah, those yeah, peace be with her, peace be with her. Yeah, it's a lot help, please. Yeah, that was crazy. That was crazy, man. Oh man.

SPEAKER_00

Well shit. Are you gotta send me some shit then? Yeah, bro. I'll have to send you some movies.

SPEAKER_02

I'm trying to think of what have I watched recently. You might enjoy. I'll I'll have to send you a list, bro.

SPEAKER_00

Y'all watch everything, I watch everything. I mean, obviously, I kind of gravitate towards these. This is my favorite. I watch them like paid in full, bro. I watch that shit two times a month. Like, literally, I like literally comfort movie. I will watch that shit like two times a month. Yeah, I get that. Like, I just love that movie. Like, I don't know. I I that's just what I like, you know what I mean? Um, but I watch everything. I mean, I watch a rom com. Like, bro, one of my my my favorite movies is um The Breakup. Oh, yeah, it's Von and God. I love dude. What's her name? Jennifer Aniston. Jennifer Aniston. That's a great movie. I love that movie. You know what I mean? That's that's a sound movie, low key. It doesn't have a happy end, like per se a happy ending. You know what I mean? The movie isn't the movie is the title. It was probably the most healthy thing to do, but it wasn't a necessarily happy ending. You know, at the end they kind of see each other in the street and you know, little smiles, and you know, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, let you crack again type shit. Uh oh no, but other than that, it was like it was, you know, uh what's um Ashton Kutcher and uh Mila Kunis. Mila Kunis. Friends with no swings attached. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Oh no, yeah, Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman. And then Mila Kunis is the Justin Timberlake.

SPEAKER_00

Like opposite ones. Oh, that's right. There was two, like I think they came out like Friends with Benefits is is Justin Timberlake's. I like putting my socks on, it makes me last longer. Yeah, yeah. I like that one better than the Ashton Kutcher one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that one is better. That's a better one for sure. Um yes, I like everything.

SPEAKER_00

You gotta send me some shit, homie.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, bro. I'll say I'll give up with some movies. Yeah, man. Um, what have I watched recently? What did I go watch recently? That was really good. Uh um, yeah, man, I've been watching mainly TV recently, too. Um I I am watching the new Euphoria season, uh, but I won't get too deep into it. You haven't watched it yet, so I'm not gonna say shit, but um, but it's good. Uh it's good, it's different for sure. It's gonna lead more into like crime, like dark crime type shit. So it's a different vibe for sure. But I'm I'm enjoying it. I like I like that shit. You know, again, these actors are they're in their like 30s now, they can't be in high school anymore. Like, let's let's stop that. We're not like in the 80s anymore. We have like 40 year olds playing their beard, and that's it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um, yeah, bro. I mean, um, yeah, for sure. I'll send you some shit. We'll we'll we'll definitely want to have you back on. Well, we we got we got some movies to talk about for sure. Uh I'm glad I have some, yeah, dude. I'm like, I don't know anybody besides like my mom that loves like the best man, or like yeah. I don't I nobody I know why has like likes this Christmas or anything like that. So I'm just like I put it on and she's just like again. I'm like, it's just it's just a great movie. I don't know, it's just a comfort movie, it's a great cast. Chris Brown gets to act. I mean, right, you know, I watched Stomp the Art, he's dead in two minutes.

SPEAKER_00

Like, I literally like I can't I all because he whooped somebody's ass in a dance battle.

SPEAKER_02

He danced so hard they had to kill his ass. It's the only way they could have beat him. They had to get rid of him. Yeah, um, but yeah, man, it's this is it was good having you on, bro. This is a great time. Appreciate it. Appreciate the champagne. Good day, get my Saturday started, right?

SPEAKER_00

There you go.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we killed the bottle, so that's bottle service, baby. Um, but yeah, man, thanks for coming on, bro. I appreciate it. This was fun.

SPEAKER_00

It's love, bro. Till next time.

SPEAKER_02

Peace out.
