Rudy is back after a brief hiatus (he has his reasons and he will let you know during the pod) to discuss one of his guilty pleasures, Den of Thieves! One of our finest Heat rip offs starring the legendary Gerard Butler as a man after my own heart, Big Nick. He's re-joined by long-time recurring guest, Bale. I don't know if this podcast is any good, or if I even know how to hose anymore (or if I ever did?) but please enjoy! Keep your rude comments to yourself.. we got family here, bro. Don't really appreciate you poppin' off like that.

SPEAKER_02

See if I remember how to do this.

SPEAKER_06

When's the last time you did one?

SPEAKER_02

Let's see here.

SPEAKER_06

Besides you playing with yourself. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I was gonna start recording like another solo one and like halfway into it, I was like, this is fucking stupid. I was like, I don't want to do this. This is boring. I was like, no. Literally, I was like, there's I I deleted it, but I probably should have kept it. There's like there's a blooper of me just like talking, like, what the fuck are you doing? This is fucking stupid. Nobody wants to hear you fucking talk to yourself in the room.

SPEAKER_06

But like I've listened to them. No, yeah. I like them because like I'm like, alright, it's like this is coming out. I know what to go look forward to.

SPEAKER_02

I know. And I was like, because I wanted to do like more of them. Like I wanted, I I said I was gonna do like one a month, and then I'm like doing the the June one, I guess, and I'm like, I just as I'm doing it, I'm like a pump of his ass while you're gonna be like, I'm like, this is fucking awful.

SPEAKER_06

Like I'm just rambling, like it's okay, that's how I feel about every Strava post I do.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, hey guys, check out my progress. Everybody cares, right? Because that's basically me, like, hey guys, listen to me talk to myself. This is interesting, right? People are enjoying this, or I I'm not even enjoying doing it, so no I was like, I I'm not, I was unreleasable.

SPEAKER_06

I hope you get back then.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I think I I want to do them like with someone, uh just like have something to bounce off of, but we'll see. I don't know. I'm trying.

SPEAKER_06

I like it because then that way you don't get interrupted or like Yeah, you just fellows take and then you get to like talk about what you like what is I I enjoy them. I was like, I'm not gonna go watch Star Wars in the game, but well wow But like I was like, no, yeah, it made me want to watch it. That one I really wanted to go watch Backrooms until I saw the trailer and then I was like, no.

SPEAKER_02

Too scary? Yeah, yeah. I didn't see backrooms yet. No, I wanna I I was interested in seeing it, but I was never like into that whole lore because it's like a whole online, it was like a whole it's like a whole online like Slender Man kind of thing. Kind of it is creep, it's based off of creepypasta. So it's tight like what that's like what Slender Man is and stuff like that. Um and then there was the guy who directed the movie also made like YouTube shorts about it, and that's kind of where it came from.

SPEAKER_06

So um Bro, I like the wave of people who did that.

SPEAKER_02

The whole YouTube thing.

SPEAKER_06

The whole yeah, like my favorite show right now is Tires. Same thing. They used to do skids and then it became a show.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Key and Peel used to be like there was a lot of yeah, yeah, there's a lot uh there's a lot of that right now, and then we're probably gonna see a lot more of it because like you and I were just talking about right now the whole um back the whole backrooms obsession thing right now, how like they've just taken over the box office uh for being in there's these small budget movies, and their directors are just they were YouTubers who made short films on YouTube, and now their their movies have hundreds of millions of dollars in the box office.

SPEAKER_06

And they said the YouTube show wouldn't work.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean it it it's it's clearly working. I mean it's worked for it. I I feel like it works, and then everyone's like, oh like gadgets YouTube, but then it's like how many people actually try YouTube when like nothing happens for them, you know? Like there's so so many videos that have like 50 views, if that, and it's like it's hard, but like you know, I mean there's there's a science behind it. Um but if you I mean it's consistent, so you gotta keep at it. But it's cool, it's cool to see these filmmakers coming from that now. Like that not just them, but um the couple like recently there were movies like uh like Talk to Me, Bring Her Back, are directed by these two brothers, uh the Philippo brothers. They were on they had an online they were YouTubers as well. So it's really becoming common. They're probably gonna see more of it going forward.

SPEAKER_06

You know what I just found out about too? The I don't know her name, I think it's Quinta from uh Abbott. Oh yeah, it's the same thing, like she just like the whole progression of how the show was from like originally like uh uh what is it called? Animated, and then it was like she hooked up with two directors, sold it as a package. I found out what a package was. Yeah, all the terms. Yeah, that was cool because I'm like, and then so like same thing, and then she used to do like videos on YouTube and then interviews, and then now she's like now she's balling, and she's gonna be uh Betty Boop, no?

SPEAKER_02

I think she's directing the movie, and she'll probably voice it. I'm sure that she'll do her version of it, which is cool. That's awesome. Oh, it might be, honestly. I saw the headline, I didn't read the article, but I saw that she's doing a Betty Boop or whatever that and uh that I mean I'm in Abbott Elementary's freaking hilarious. I haven't seen it. Dude, it's so funny.

SPEAKER_06

Every time it's on my like feed, yeah, it's one of the best.

SPEAKER_02

Like it's like low, it's like a really it's just a very um consistently good show. Like I think it's it's probably not as funny as it was when it first started, like the first two or three seasons I think were like it was just so new and fresh, obviously. And then now I think it's just been like very reliable. Like you can always you can just turn it on and like But that isn't that what we wanted. Yeah, like it's it's it's good, like it'll it'll be a show, like it'll I think it'll be like The Office or Parks and Rec, like in 15 years, like or 10 years, like once it's it's done. Because I think we're on like season five now. Yeah, they just indicated. I think the problem is though with with shows like that now, like sitcoms, is the actors get so famous because like because in this day and age, and they just it it gets so hard to schedule them. Like is it the euphoria thing? Yeah, I was just about like the euphoria problem. I mean, it's not on that level with them, but a lot of them are getting more traction in their careers now. They're gonna they're able to do more things. A lot of actors that like especially in com I mean, I think in general, but like comedy actors, like they want to start their own production companies and they want to produce their own stuff, and they want you know they want to level up in their career, and so like it just gets hard to like in like the the heyday of of sitcoms like your friends or even before friends, you know, stuff like Cheers, or Seinfeld, stuff like that. The actors like they were um not that they weren't famous, but I feel like they were along for the ride because the shows made them so much money at that point.

SPEAKER_06

And I mean in this well, it was a lot better paid back then, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And also, like again, like you could you made more episodes of TV a year, those shows were like 20 to 25 episodes a season, it was on out every year. A lot of shows now are like 12 to like 18. Maybe you get 20. I don't even think I don't even think Abby gets gets 20, honestly. So and it's just scheduling stuff costs more. Um, and it's like do you want to be stuck on a show for 12 years of your career? A lot of actors don't want to do that anymore.

SPEAKER_06

They want to do a big bang problem, like something was over it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but the when the the money truck gets backed up to your front door every every year for the million an episode at the end, I think big bank theory they were making more than that. I think that's by the end of it, and I think even the the actors they were offered a lot of money to do another season, and they were like, No, we're done. Like Big Bang Theory is just one of those shows where I'm like, I don't like I have never seen I've I've up at this point now, I've seen like an episode of it because like I've gone to like people's houses and they have it on. Um like a buddy of mine uh says he watched all of it and like you then watch like the young Sheldon spinoff. I didn't get into that. And I'm just like I was like, I honestly like I have I've never like I've seen bits and pieces of it, but I've never like been inclined to like I'm gonna go watch this entire thing.

SPEAKER_06

I'm just like but clearly people watched it because it was one of the biggest shows on TV, and and it's everywhere, TV, like every every hotel, everywhere I've been to that has a TV, it's on there, yeah. TVS baby, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um, and then it was all over like when uh HBO Max's streaming service came out. That was like one of their big things. Like, we've got it was friends and we've got Big Bang Theory.

SPEAKER_06

That that look at us, look at what we got because they bought back uh friends from Netflix, right?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, because Netflix had it for so long, and then when HBO or Warner Brothers or HBO star had their streaming service, we're like, Yep, let's get our shit back. Um yeah, so but yeah, I mean um it's cool to see that like what's going on. Like uh our longest intro. Yeah, we're we're it's fine, we're rambling, but um um I guess I should introduce the podcast. Yeah, so hey folks, welcome to Did You See This with Rudy Martinez. I'm your host, Rudy Martinez, and if you didn't already know, I am joined once again by Bale. Welcome back, buddy.

SPEAKER_06

Hey man, you ran out of friends again?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I have no more friends. No, well, that's not true, Bale. It's not true. I'm happy to have you back. Uh I have uh I took a little hiatus. I uh this is my first episode I'm recording in over a month, I think. I took most of June off, uh mostly in honor of Pride Month. And now that it's almost over, I feel like I can come back and get back in the swing of things.

SPEAKER_06

The swing of things.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you know, just swinging around, swinging it around. No, not this way. Um and then I was gonna record sooner, but then obviously Juneteenth came, and I, you know, I can't. I just feel like it wasn't right to be recording this show during during these big events.

SPEAKER_06

I just post that a black square.

SPEAKER_02

You're so brave. But we're back, baby. Oh, this is not the edited. This is staying in. This is all staying in. If this is the last episode, then we're going out with a bang, a big bang theory. Uh and yeah, so I'm back, I think. We'll find out. We'll see if we'll see if I record this. I mean, honestly, it's probably not looking too good. We've got 4th of July next weekend. I don't know if I'll get an episode out next weekend, but you know, at least we'll get one more in the can. I need to do better about my scheduling. I keep saying that every week. You gotta get a manager. I gotta get someone to manage this. This is this is terrible. This is terrible. I gotta start booking people in advance. I need to just like what I should have done if I was smart is I should have just recorded a bunch of episodes in June and not release them and then be like, guys, sorry for the break. I'm back with like 10 new episodes, but I was lazy.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, you should have just had filler ones.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Now record some, keep them in the bank, and then whenever you feel lazy.

SPEAKER_02

That well, that's that's what I need to do. That's that's the smart thing to do. I just but what I'm gonna do is it's gonna be Saturday again. I'm like, fuck.

SPEAKER_04

Bail.

SPEAKER_02

Bail, hey, I know you have nothing going on.

SPEAKER_06

That's the real reason I'm on so much. I'm the only one that has nothing going on.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you're a shirt thing. You're what you're what we call a shirt thing in the streets.

SPEAKER_06

On the back or after the club.

SPEAKER_02

Oh man. Hey, wait, you're everybody you gotta have you gotta have plan B. It's always a fallback. You were but you were planning. Yeah, you were plan A, B, and C, because I had nothing else lined up here. Um, so we're back. It's been a long break. I figure why not bring back the OG, the original guest, and uh the guy who's been on several times.

SPEAKER_06

Um I did it on the spot, dude.

SPEAKER_02

On the spot. This is on the spot on the fly, baby. This is I'm a I'm a professional podcast. See, you're back. I'm back. I'm already back. I'm already ready to go. The wheels are greased. This is ring rust, it's gonna be a smooth ride. Yeah. Uh so we're here, we are here to talk about a movie today, believe it or not. Uh regard, you know, we're 12 minutes in, we haven't even mentioned the movie we're gonna talk about today, and that's fine, honestly. Let's just let's keep things fresh, guys. Can't be the same every week. You know, not that I have it, there's an episode every week, but it can't be the same when there is one. Uh so we're gonna talk about a little film I love with all my heart, and I think you had never seen. I hadn't called Den of Thieves. Yes, sir. This is a uh 2018 movie, I believe.

SPEAKER_06

I think it was older. I thought it was like 2016.

SPEAKER_02

No, yeah, 2018. This is Jan was January 2018, starring good old Jerry Butler, Gerard Butler of 300 fame, and he's been in all your dad's favorite movies for the last 15 years, uh, mine included.

SPEAKER_06

Um still haven't seen 300. Oh man, that's a good movie. You know, it's funny I've seen Meet the Spartans.

SPEAKER_02

I'm sure you have. I'm sure you have. That tracks. Uh and I just got lost. Um yeah, so if and then there's there's a couple of other cool little actors you've seen. Pablo Schreiber, who people probably would recognize best from he was in Orange as the New Black, Porn Stash, I think was his name in that show. Uh recently he starred in the Halo TV series as Master Chief. Um, he's a pretty cool actor, and then 50 Cent, who I 50 Cent is it's funny because I remember when this movie was coming out, he was like heavily promoting this movie, like heavily, like he was out doing the work for this movie. And I'm like, oh damn, he must be like the main character. I think he has like four lines.

SPEAKER_06

Bro, thank you.

SPEAKER_03

Which was crazy.

SPEAKER_02

I I mean that's fine.

SPEAKER_06

I mean remember that scene. The we'll get to it, but that scene that's like heavily marketed, every everyone's seen it on the city.

SPEAKER_02

That's like his only scene, like that's like his only like substantial scene in the movie, honestly.

SPEAKER_06

There's nothing more to the character, but I can't think of any value he adds to the movie besides that scene. I mean like moving or whatever.

SPEAKER_02

I I feel like they're doing they're doing it. Uh an uh you know, a big thing for this movie too is, and I think it's another movie you have not seen yet, but this movie is a huge ripoff of heat.

SPEAKER_06

That one?

SPEAKER_02

Yes, the poster you're you're putting it. He's put he's pointing to a heat poster in my room.

SPEAKER_06

There's another movie I was thinking of that it was like that I was like, they just ripped this off. Which one? Uh Mad Money. They just injected all the testosterone into Mad Money.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, well, I mean, there's so many like I mean, even like I mean, heat is like the That's the OG the pivotal, like the iconic godfather of like LA crime heist bank robbery movies. Uh there's obviously been big LA crime movies before heat. There's movies like LA Confidential, um, I and I'm I'm gonna blank on the other ones because I don't do any research. Uh but like there's and then even in since heat, there have been pivotal LA crime movies or just crime movies or heist movies in general, but heat takers is yep, that's one. Um but this movie is like so indebted to what he like it literally is ripping off heat. Like if you when you do watch Heat finally, which you should get on very quickly, but when you do finally watch Heat, you're gonna be like, Oh my god, like they're literally like taking like lines from the movie.

SPEAKER_05

No, um, it's not like oh okay. I I get what you mean.

SPEAKER_02

Like, like they're they're remixing it in a sense, but it's very, very much like okay.

SPEAKER_06

Well, I'm gonna like it because I love this one. Yeah, it's great.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, I love this movie too. I this like I I watched it knowing, going in, like, oh, I've heard this is like a heat ripoff. I watched, I'm like, yeah, this is a total heat ripoff. Like they're literally taking like just beats and beats of like what happened, like the opening of the movies, total heat. The heist at the end of the movie is totally like what there's a heist like in like the last like third of heat that like that that movie is like Zen of Thieves is totally like trying to like trying to redo its own version of. Um but but what I do appreciate about appreciate about this movie though is that it could have easily been like a very cheap action movie. And if you think about it, there's not a lot of action in the movie. There's it's the movie opens with the crazy shootout and it ends with the crazy shootout, but this is and it's a long movie. This movie is like two hours and twenty minutes long, it's almost two and a half hours long, and there's probably there's only guns fired in the beginning, the opening like six minutes and the last like 12 minutes, and then it's about two hours of there's a there's good stuff happening.

SPEAKER_06

How much is the how much is that it's in itself, that whole very little action copying from Heat, same thing?

SPEAKER_02

Heat has Heat is kind of similar where there isn't a lot of the it's very similar again. Heat opens with the very with a very big action high sequence, super cool, and then there yeah, like it's similar. There isn't a lot of gun fire firing in the movie until about I'd say then if it's it's honestly if you lined it up, it's pretty similar to what heat does. And that's why like Heat, like I consider a but the thing is with Heat though, it it's it's it's very prestigey, very um, you know, a very high class film. And you look at like the guy who's making it, Michael Man, who's a very prestigious director, the actors in it, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, like you're you're expecting a kind of classier movie when you get a movie called Den of Thieves with from a director that no one had heard of, starring Gerard Butler in 50 Cent, you expect a certain type of movie.

SPEAKER_06

Well, just like looking at heat and looking at um because I've seen the diner scene. Right. Like of heat. Yeah. Like uh brother, you are going down. When he does uh well, that scene, so it looks almost white-collar, so that's what I thought it was. Right. I thought it was almost white-collar crime, as opposed to this one where I just look at the I look at Gerard, and at first glance of him at the donor shop, you're like, Yeah, corrupt.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, exactly. And um, and in he Pacino's character isn't so much corrupt. He definitely is he's your standard like cop who's a little bit on the edge too much, probably toes the line of good at you know good and evil, um, is just too in the job, way too in the job. Gerard Butler's character, the great big Nick, is a toy is a shit is a shit bag. He's a terrible human being. He's you know, shitty to his family, shitty to he's breaking laws, clearly. He's you know, they're they're abusing drugs, they're drunk, he's drinking on the job during you know, all day. There's girls, you know, he's he's hiring sex workers, you know, it's like he's he's not a good person, and he's a he's breaking the law, but uh, and I mean his whole team is. Um, but and that's not that's not so much the case in Heat, but very similar. Like I think they're they're trying to like modernize it and make it a little bit dirtier and grimier for the modern era, which is you know, that's cool. It's fine. I I I love Gerard Butler in this movie. I think I mean I think Gerard Butler is you know, he's mostly known, at least he for a while he was known as the guy from 300. And then he kind of made a bunch of shitty shitty movies after the fact. He did a lot, he went to this rom com era, and he just really couldn't, he wasn't really like he like he was in 300, 300 was a huge hit, and everybody's like, oh, this is our this is our guy, he's our next like star. Like he's gonna be leading the biggest movies ever. And I think they tried to do that with him and it just didn't work, and he tried the rom com route and it just didn't work.

SPEAKER_06

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. We're not gonna talk about the greatest movie all time that he's done.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, you like it. You don't like it? No. And I've seen a bunch of his I've seen a bunch of his movies.

SPEAKER_06

Um I just like the bounty on there, that's it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and and that's fine. I mean, if you my your mileage may vary on those movies, and that's fine. He's he's made um, he's gone for the crowd pleasers, like, and uh he kind of I think in the in the 2010s, he kind of uh found his lane in like like dad slop movies, yeah movies like Law Abiding Citizen or Olympus Has Fallen, um like these movies is he just in like uh different movies that are basically the same thing?

SPEAKER_06

Because Olympus has fallen isn't it was the same year as White House Down or the year after?

SPEAKER_02

That was the that I think those are the same year. That was yeah, that was like that was the funny thing as we have the Olympus Has Fallen and White House Done. And I I think Olympus has fallen is is a better movie. Um and I like a lot of the movies that he's done since like he did uh Greenland, which is a really good movie. Um so he's done some really cool stuff, but he's kind of settled in this like he's like a B tier Arnold Swarkschenager, Sylvester Sallone, like that's kind of what like what his career has become, like where he's just he's the action star, but he's you know he's getting up there in age, and then uh and a lot of times, and also he's uh he's Scottish and it's hard for him to hide. So it's so kind of like uh Swartenager, where you know, in in his heyday, he was playing a New York City police officer with that accent, and it's just like, oh yeah, you know, they would just have a throwaway line. Sometimes they'd have a throwaway line, like, oh, his dad immigrated from such and such, or oh, he immigrated from such and such. And then eventually they were just like, Don't even mention it. Who cares like who cares? Like nobody gives a shit. And I think Gerard Butler's in that's lane now too, where it's like you can try to like tone the accent down, but nobody cares. Just do whatever you I want the accent, and I think he's actually in this one, he's actually trying a little bit to like not sound so not American. Um, but it's like, dude, I like this accent in this one, it was cool. Um, but I think this like I I remember even when I saw it in 2018, I left. I'm like, that was probably like his best performance in a long time. Like, he's a fucking slime bag in this movie. Like, he's greasy, dirty, shitty, he's a bully, he's a he's a monster.

SPEAKER_06

This is uh this is what I imagine a live action flash from Batman. Uh the police officer, the dirty one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Flash. I don't know his uh last name, whatever, but this is what what I would imagine if they ever bring that character to life, I think that's what it would be.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's a dirty cop, for sure.

SPEAKER_06

Uh and so we're talking about the the premise of LA Heist movies. At the beginning we have uh action, then we have a whole bunch of like just dialogue, and then just one last action one. Like, and then as you're saying this, I'm like, oh damn. So is Takers a ripoff of he and then uh Den of Thieves just did it better too? Because same thing. A cop that's too much in his job, um, partner who's like okay, I guess, to the storyline. Yeah. Action in the beginning, dialogue, dialogue. We have a master planner who's behind everything, yeah. Action scene.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, Taker is I'm sure any movie that's like I think about how's it that's gonna have like the premise is there's a there's your police officers who you know are probably one bad day away from being criminals themselves, and then there's criminals who have a code and has strict rules they follow and a tight-knit unit, you know, and they're they're on a collision course. Like it's it's essentially inspired by heat. And either in most filmmakers, I think, that make movies, um, whether it's an LA based crime movie or just a crime movie in general, are gonna they're probably gonna cite heat as a movie as that that they're either influenced by or that they love just because it's that. Much. It's just that the heat is just that much in like everyone's mind. It's a masterpiece. But like even uh Nolan with the Dark Knight, the Dark Knight is heat with superheroes. That's literally what the Dark Knight is. Like I like if you I'm telling you, you gotta watch Heat. You're gonna watch Heat, you're like, oh, that's what he's thinking, like, damn, no one's hit the mark.

SPEAKER_06

If that's the standard, there's no one's even I don't think anyone's close to it.

SPEAKER_02

For the Batman one. For the Dark Knight? Yeah. Yeah, I mean, yeah. I mean, the Dark Knight, I mean, even like to the point where Christopher Nolan, the director, was like instructing his casting crew to watch Heat like during production. Like this, like he was literally like, this is what I'm going for.

SPEAKER_06

This is like this is how it sorry, sorry. Heat is a standard, and even the Batman Heat is like the blueprint, basically.

SPEAKER_02

And he was a blueprint. So Heat was released in 95, Dark Knights 13 years later. So when Nolan was making the Dark Knight, he was like showing everybody Heat. Like, this is what I'm going for. This is like what I want. Like, this is how I want the movie to look, how I want the movie to feel. Like the opening of like similar to the opening of The Dark Knight is very like very inspired by Heat. The bank, there's a there's a Heat has a very famous bank robbery scene that like most a lot of movies. If you've ever played a Grand Theft Auto game, there's always a bank robbery mission at Grand Theft Auto.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Watch watch Heat, and you'll be like, oh, every GTA game has ripped off, you know, this scene from Heat because it's that's how impactful it is to pop culture. Um and so Den of Thieves is doing a very similar thing. Uh um, and that's kind of you know, it's been some people like Den of Thieves has its fans and it has people like it's just a heat rip-off. But I think it's one of the better heat ripoffs that we've had. Uh, and I think I think it's really good. And I think it rises above like the the junkiness it could it could have been written off as. Um if you like again, if you if you just if you just tell somebody, oh, what are you watching? Oh, I'm gonna go watch Den of Thieves. What the hell is that? Oh, it's this new like crime movie with Gerard Butler and 50 Cent. And they're gonna be like, oh god, that sounds like a rest sounds like a red box classic or whatever. And but it's not, and again, you know, it it there are some like junky elements to it, but I think it the movie does try to take itself pretty seriously, which I respect, and I think it but also it there's there's like a a slight um tongue-in-cheekness about it, where like it kind of knows it's a little ridiculous and over to over the top when you have a character like named Big Nick who acts like how he acts, like like you know you're you're being a little there's the there's like you have to have a little fun, like you can't it like it it takes itself seriously, but it's not to the point where you're like it thinks it's better than you, or like it thinks like it doesn't the movie doesn't think it's smarter than it actually is, in my opinion, because maybe like some of the characters are like like the character of Ray Merriman, uh Pablo Schreiber's character, like the lead criminal. Um, you know, he's very stoic and serious the entire movie, but the but that works for his character, like his the scenes with him, we should be like, Oh yeah, these guys mean business.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

When we're with Nick and the cops, it's like, yeah, Nick's a fucking idiot. Like he's I mean, he he's a great cop and he's smart, but you know, if if he's just a low life, but he's a low life, he's a degenerate.

SPEAKER_06

He's he's a he's a gangster with a badge.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he said it. Uh, but like the in like in those scenes, the movie knows, let's have a little fun here, because this guy's ridiculous, and people around him know he's ridiculous. Like they're reacting, like they're reacting to him in a way that we're kind of reacting to the to the performance, but in a good way.

SPEAKER_06

You know what also it gave me? Fast five.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, for sure. That's uh the sequel. So there's a sequel, Thing of Thieves 2, Pantera. Okay, amazing title. Uh very fast and furious coded. Because it it's it kind of does the pulling of the villain. It it well, what it does is it it it it takes the the action, it takes the story kind of international. Yes, and it becomes a lot of like uh the first one does that, no? Uh what? The first one pulling international, the first Den of Thieves, yeah. I mean at the end there's a there's a tease, and then the set the second one is all that's like it's set it's set in a different country. Okay, okay, okay. Um so that one is I think a lot more fast and fierce. It's more of an action movie, the second one, I think, than this one is.

SPEAKER_06

It just gave me fast five vibes because it's like he's he's uh he's uh what is it called? They call him in when they don't have jurisdiction.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and that's and that's super um what you're referencing is like yeah, like basically who like, oh, this is the guy you call when you want to get things done, and and that's such like a throwback to like the Schwarzenegger, uh Stallone, John Claude Van Dam.

SPEAKER_06

I just mean specifically fast five because of the the team. You're in LA sheriff department, bro. There, why do these folks have like an armory and like right? So I'm just like yeah, I'm like, what sheriff is doing this? First of all, and then second of all, I'm like the whole team just goes whatever he says. We're gonna take him out, we're gonna get hookers. Yeah. When he's getting divorced, I guess I'm getting divorced. Welcome to the club. It's like, bro, what what do you mean?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and I think that's kind of the the thing again. What I'm kind of referencing is like the movie is like it it delivers it seriously, but like also it's like you guys know this is like silly, right? Yeah, like um, like yeah, what he like welcome to the club, brother. And it's like, yeah, so you guys are all degenerates, and at the end, when there's like one of the cops dies, like he's like, Oh, you gonna call his wife?

SPEAKER_06

And I'm like the only one with his wife.

SPEAKER_02

I'm like, like, you guys are all you guys all cheat on your wives, clearly. Like, you cheat on your wives, you treat your family like you treat your families like shit. Like, you guys are all pieces of shit.

SPEAKER_06

Like, well, no, because Gerard still tried to play the good husband at home, so he's still trying to put on a act.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and and I think and you know I don't think he's a shit. I mean, I think uh he's probably not bad to his kids. I don't think I don't think he's bad to his kids. He's just a he's just a uh alcoholic cheating asshole of a husband. Like he clearly isn't good to his wife.

SPEAKER_06

Oh my god, it just clicked. Nice.

SPEAKER_02

What the the text message Oh you don't oh what like what happened?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I couldn't I couldn't put it together, uh the scene at the apartment. I couldn't put that scene together with I did what you asked me to. I couldn't put that together. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. And then it just like as we're talking about the scene where or the family, that's when it clicked. Is that what happened?

SPEAKER_02

No, no, no, that's those are two different two different things. Oh shit. Um, but yeah, so anyways, this movie um I've been kind of singing, singing the uh the praises of it for a while. Um there's a there's another a much better podcast I listen to called The Ringer, uh called The Rewatchables that has a really amazing episode on this movie. Um so if anyone wants this wants to hear, listen to this first and then go listen to them. Yeah. Um they have I mean they don't need the views, they're they're much bigger, bigger production than me. But but no, but tag them. There's a very um, like I said, very like sly like sly smirk about this movie. People are like you love it, but you like understand like it's it's ridiculous, but it's also like amazing. It works.

SPEAKER_06

And uh and it's why we tolerate the fast and furious franchise.

SPEAKER_02

Right, and there's there's kind of a yeah, that's that's like that's a good point. Like, there's a very fast and furious type of like enjoyment you can have here where like this is ridiculous, but like I respect it. Like, I respect what they're doing.

SPEAKER_06

Like, they're like you know, the dialogue and the psychology of it is deep enough that where you're like, alright, we can get away with the goofy.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Um because it is a good movie, and the dialogue is great. The the psychology of it, the end, the twist at the end.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know if he has a twist like that, but if it does, he does not really have a not no, he does not have like a twist in the sense in the way that this one is.

SPEAKER_06

Like it's it's pretty good because it like shows you that Gerard Butler's character was really smart, and then it's a whole uh what is it? Uh the Jesse Isen Jesse Eisenberg line in uh Now You See Me? With the smart so it's basically that concept.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay. I don't know. I've seen the movie once and took it out of my mind. Those are not movies for me. But I appreciate that. I'm glad everybody gets to make money off of them.

SPEAKER_03

What the fuck?

SPEAKER_02

I I only I've seen the first one once and I've never seen it again.

SPEAKER_06

I've never expected that from you. I thought you would have loved them. No. Whoa, okay, okay. Let's move past it.

SPEAKER_02

Uh yeah, so this movie, I guess we should, you know, we can get into the movie. And I oh so yeah, we and we touched, so yeah, the cast, it's a bunch of like guys you probably have like seen and stuff. Um they're not really like famous people beyond beyond like Gerard Butler, and honestly, like of the criminals, 50 Cent, I guess, is the most famous one. And then obviously there's there's O'Shea Jackson Jr. who has been kind of blowing up. And at this point, this is three years after Straight Outta Compton, so he's like an up-and-coming star now at this point.

SPEAKER_06

Was this his did he have another movie before this after?

SPEAKER_02

He had done a few. He I think because he did some stuff after Straight Out of Compton. I don't I can't oh yeah, so he's in Straight Outta Compton, and then he's in the Godzilla sequel, King of the Monsters. He's like a soldier in that. That's like a small role. Uh, and then he's in a movie called uh I think it's probably this year or the next year. It might be the year after, but this is one of his bigger ones. Like he has a pretty substantial role in this, and then I think he does he does another movie called uh a comedy called Long Shot, which is super funny with Seth Seth Rogan and Charlize Theron. He's really, really, really good in that movie. I heard really good things about that one. Yeah, it that it's uh that's an underrated movie, but he's O'Shea Jackson Jr. He's a really really he's really really good in that movie. He's super funny, and I feel like he's not really done a ton since um Den of Thieves 2. He was in the sequel to Den of Thieves 2, and I feel like in between that he really Well, he's been big on the wrestling podcast and the wrestling scene. Yeah, and I think he he had a show on either Apple, I think Apple or Netflix, like I think it was a basketball show that he did he did.

SPEAKER_06

He he kind of went more like uh sports broad not broadcaster, but like yeah, like he's like, Let me show you, let me he kind of took a break for everything and then just started because I've I've seen him everywhere with WWE. Yeah, we do he's put him on this, put him on that, and he was in a Star Wars show.

SPEAKER_02

So like he's and he's also he's very like he's super into like geek culture, yes, he loves Star Wars and anime, and like I think he's trying to like he's been wanting to like find his way into those types of projects, but I don't know that he always fits. Like he worked in surprisingly in Star Wars, he did work it. It wasn't the greatest show, but his character kind of worked, he was solid in it. Um, but he I mean he's been working solidly for since I mean straight out of Compton, really. Uh and so I think he's like the I guess at the at this point in 2018, I think he was probably the most famous person on the criminal side in this movie, for sure, especially at that moment. And then Pob Pablo Schreiber's character who plays Ray, the lead. Uh he's more of a TV actor. He he had he's been in movies, but he again he was in he was in movie, he was in um I think his biggest thing at that point was uh Orange is the New Black, which was a big show on Netflix. Yeah, so he was uh he was but even that was like I don't know four or five years prior to to the this movie. So it's like he had but he had done other he like I had I had I had seen him in a lot of things. I knew who he was because again I'm a freak and I watch everything, but like I to the general public, I don't think he was even now, even now he's not that he was Dra uh Drago from the Cree 2. He's a big guy.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, that's why I thought it was him. I was like, did he beef up for Cree 2? And then yeah, two different guys.

SPEAKER_02

No, two different guys. But no, but he's a big dude, he's tall and and he's uh has he done anything since like that he's done a lot again, he's done TV, like I said, he he was there. There was a Halo TV show and he played Master Chief on it. Okay, not really not really a good show, but he he was in it. Uh he was Master Chief and then uh Oh, is he at Master Chief?

SPEAKER_06

No.

SPEAKER_02

It just wasn't, it's just not it's not a show that should be made. It's not Master Chief. The the I mean the the show does this I mean it makes the ultimate mistake where you he's Master Chief's walking around without his mask on, half the show. Because it's like, oh, we have to have like we have to have the actor in the face, and and uh I don't think that was that was obviously a bad call. Like physically and like the voice, it's good, but like I don't want to see Master like you know that's the whole point of the whole point of the game was you don't see his face. Yeah, but so but um yeah, he's done like he was on a Netflix show recently called His and Hers, which was pretty good. Okay, it was like a good twisty thriller, and he he's in it, he plays like a douchebag, which he's good at. Um so he I mean he he he worked solidly, uh and yeah, kind of circling back to 50 Cent again. Again, like again, I I just thought it was funny how I remember when this movie coming up, like how much he was promoting it, and so I again I'm here and then like I they were on the Breakfast Club, yeah, um, promoting it, him, Gerard Butler, Pablo Schreiber. I don't know if Oh, Shea Jackson was there, and I'm like, damn, he's like he's and clearly like obviously they're using 50 cents like clout.

SPEAKER_06

Like did he have any production side of it?

SPEAKER_02

I don't I thought he did, and he's not he doesn't, he's not a producer on this. Wow, so he's just so he's just he was just they must have got a bag for marketing.

SPEAKER_06

I'm sure I mean it doesn't that money on the table.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, and again, like when you make movies like market, like you get paid like a lot of people say, like when you when you do a movie, you you you're getting paid on the back end too. Well, like no, they're saying like your fee, like your payment really is like for the marketing, for the press tour. Like that's what they're really paying you for because they gotta you gotta do all kinds of like that's the work. Whereas like the act acting is like the play and the work is the press tour you have to go on. So I mean he was just doing what he was what was contracted to do. I'm not saying he was like I don't know that he was like angry or bad about it, like, but I think he just like to me, I was like, this guy must be like a big part of the movie because he's like he's everywhere for it. And like again, what watching the movie, he's more of like a presence than he is an actual like character, beyond the one like I think like the famous scene from this movie is the the garage scene, uh, which is which is a great, a great scene. It was like they or it was it was a clip they released and that circulated all over like you know social media, and it was a big like everyone's seen it on TikTok. Everybody has at least seen that clip, yeah, for sure. Uh in the scene, the scene referencing is 50 Cents character's daughter is going to prom, I think, and she gets picked up by her date who's clear like a blood. And he walks in with like his you know, the red bandana. Yeah, the red bandana, and 50 cents sees it, and he's you know, he's the stoic dad, like, oh, I'm not, you know, I can't this is my this is my baby girl, and uh he takes the the guy into the garage where all of his all of his friends and like they the background of these characters is they're all former college football players and they're friends with a bunch of like big Samoans, and they're all for a lot of them are former Marines, so they're all like sp they're all like I think they're a lot of them are special force marines. So um he brings the his daughter's date in there to have a chat with him and gives them the talk basically, like you know, this is it's been it's been my my only responsibility is has been uh to protect my daughter for the last 16 years, and for the first time ever, I'm leaving it in your hands, you know, so you better not fuck it up. And then he like has a bunch of his friends like fake, like uh interrogate him, scare him. One of the Samoans starts like speaking and speaking, like speaking at him in the other his language, and like the the kid get the kid gets all freaked out and leaves, and um he's basically saying have a good time, yeah. So and then uh as the kid leaves, they give it a minute, and then all the all the guys in the garage start cracking up because it was you know it's just a joke to fuck with a kid.

SPEAKER_06

You gotta get all your friends on steroids now.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'm like, yeah, uh, you know, I was like, yeah, I wonder if uh could could I do that? I'm like, no, my friends are fucking suck. They're either they're either not over 5'7 or they're or they weigh 110 pounds and wear glasses. So we're not we're not threatening anybody.

SPEAKER_06

You just gotta put them in like escondido high school clothes.

SPEAKER_02

I'll be like, I can call your mom. That's what I could do if you're not nice to my daughter. Um yeah, uh, but that would be nice. I do need to start making some friends that are over six feet and at least and over 200 pounds. That'd be that'd be ideal for when when my daughter gets updating age. Uh so I that's something I need to work on. So I need to work on.

SPEAKER_06

You're telling me you're not gonna have Pablo here in the garage?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they don't even understand what he's saying.

SPEAKER_06

Palabra full.

SPEAKER_02

Palabra's gonna be like 90 pounds, sick, he's all sickly. Drinking a white claw. Drinking a white claw. You're gonna you're gonna be threatened by a guy drinking white claws? Like, come on, dude. Like Josie. Josie? Yeah, I mean, I love him to death. Love those guys to death, but uh they're not scaring anybody. Poncho, you know, he's a big guy, but he's just so south-spoken. He just sounds so nice. Like he'd walk in, like, and he'd be like, and he'd be like, hey, hey, how you doing, man?

SPEAKER_03

Really, really good to meet you. Hope you guys have a really nice time tonight. Make sure please please treat her nicely.

SPEAKER_02

I love you, Poncho. Love you, Poncho. Um, yeah, I need I need scarier friends. Uh, but yeah, so so um That was the shitting on the friends. Yeah, I'm just fucking getting, I'm just cutting. I'm just all my friends are gonna hate me after this. So I'll be on the next episode. Yeah, so you'll be on the next 18 episodes, I think. No one's gonna want to come on this anymore. Uh so yeah, so yeah, 50 Cent, man.

SPEAKER_06

But I be uh also like Do you know who else marketed this movie like a motherfucker? Michael Bitspin.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, that's right. He has a small role in this.

SPEAKER_06

Oh my god, bro. Everything, Joe wrote every because I was like very big into the UFC when he was there, bro. Everything like on his Fox segments, on this, on his podcast. I'm in ten of thieves, I'm in ten of thieves. I forgot the motherfucker was in it till the last bit.

SPEAKER_02

And he dies right away. Oh no, he doesn't die.

SPEAKER_06

No, no, no, dude. His that's how forgettable it is, right? He's a banker at the end.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay, that's right. Yes, yes, yes.

SPEAKER_06

But he made it seem like he's like, Yeah, he's like, I'm in London shooting this movie, uh uh Ten of Thieves, and then I got the I think he got the championship fight or something like that.

SPEAKER_01

That's right. He's the dude at the end, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

And I'm just like, bruh, another 57 dude. Yeah. I'm like, Max Holloway was in this movie more than both of them, basically. Never fucking heard him mention it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, it's it's uh yeah, interest it was an interesting marketing. And I remember I remember I knew nothing about this movie, and I think I was scrolling on like Instagram or Twitter, I don't know what, and like it was just it just showed the scene where Pablo Schreiber's character Ray at the end when he when he pulls out the the the machine gun and he just starts firing out firing into the like when he whether they're stuck in the traffic, like and I was like, Holy shit, that's like sick as shit. What is this movie? And then I watched the trailer and I was like, Oh, that's a fucking heat ripoff. And then I remember like one of the some podcasts I listened to was like, Oh yeah, it's video it's pretty good. And I'm like, Alright, I'll go check it out. And I went, I actually I saw this movie in theaters, so that was cool, it was a good experience. Um, but yeah, uh 50 Cent man, like he's just I don't even know that he's I wouldn't even call him like a good actor, really. Like um, he's just himself, he's 50 Cent. And I mean to be fair, like he'd like I think his he him he did his thing where he tried to become like an act an actual like an actual actor. Uh you know, he did his version of 8 Mile with Garrett Dietrian, which is you know, I think like a solid, like fun movie. And then I remember there was the big meme going around where he like lost a bunch of weight for like a movie that nobody ever heard of. Like he tried to get like a yeah, I think I I think he played somebody with like age, or I don't know what he urged. So it was sick, I'm sick. And he got all skinny, and people thought he like it was him, his attempt at like being a dramatic actor, and like no one I couldn't no one even knows what the movie is. Uh and then his big like push is like a mogul in entertainment, really beyond obviously like his mu music, which we all you know was just classic stuff, but and then you know his you know, he was a vitamin water guy forever. But uh his big thing was power, yeah. Which he was taking over stars. He was a producer, he basically was he basically put stars on the map, which was stars was known as like this like junky streaming server, or not stream, but cable channel cable channel. Um and I and I and I did I watch power, I watched the original power of the I and I watched there's been like several like there's like five spin-offs.

SPEAKER_06

The one I want to see is Tommy's, but I feel like I gotta watch Power to understand the lore Tommy.

SPEAKER_02

I wasn't too big of a fan of the Tommy one, honestly. It just came off as super cheap. Uh but power is really good. It's an entertaining show, and he's it he's an uh producer on it. He's like the big like he was like the big name on it. Like when the show is being promoted from executive producer 50 Cent or Curtis 50 Cent Jackson.

SPEAKER_06

I thought he was gonna be the main character, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and he plays uh in season one, he's he's in it for a little bit, and then I think in season two to like through like five or six, he's like pretty he's like in the show for the for the most part, and um and he's good in the show, but he's playing himself, uh and that was like his big thing. So I thought I think after I at that point I'm like, oh, he's gonna if he's in this movie, it must be it's gonna be a pretty cool role. And again, he has like four lines.

SPEAKER_06

You know who uh you know who had more lines in him that I thought was hilarious? I don't know his name. Um on the cop side, the black the one black dude on the cop side. I don't know his name, but he was in Gridiron Gang.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah, yeah, yep, that's him in Gridiron Gang. That was my favorite. That was my Mo McRae is the actor's name. I forgot what his name is in the in the in the movie, but uh I know, yeah. Yeah I I I think my criticism of the movie, especially for how long it is, I would have liked to get a little bit more of the the cop characters. Like you don't really get anything with them, uh and you get like little like you little tidbits uh here and there, but like I would have liked to have seen a bit more of like who they are or like just some more personality from them, uh, besides just being like very like badass dirt bag cops that just fuck around. Um because I feel like with the with the criminals, you get we get a lot with Ray, obviously. Um you know, we get that one scene with 50 Cent gets the one scene at his house, which we just talked about. There's Bosco, the the the dirt bike bro with the where's the you know the the hat and um like we get them and and and there's there's they're and they're allowed to have a little more, I guess, not fun, but we just they obviously we want to see more of the cr the criminal stuff, like the crimes being done, and um you know they all then they all start getting killed at the end and it's you're like oh like I like you know when the when the one cop I think uh barracho gets killed at the at the end I'm just like I like bummer I guess I don't know I he had one line like I don't know like he had a wife yeah he oh yeah I guess he has like if he has a wife we find out sorry um so I you know I would have liked a little bit more on that because I feel like in like the movie that this movie is obviously inspired of heat you do get a lot of that in heat like you get a lot of the characters the cops and the criminals in particular you get a the criminals in particular and heat you get a lot of like into the personality from them and you like they're all distinct and you know who is who and what they're about and what in the cops you get a little bit of it. Not a not a lot like if but you the the characters are are distinct enough that you're like oh I know who that is who that is whereas in this one again they don't really get it on purpose I mean it's probably just it's just I mean maybe there's stuff that was cut I'm sure there's stuff that was cut like either from the script or that was filmed and deleted um after the fact no no no I mean like you think that was done on purpose as in like uh if we had known a little bit more about their backstories it would have killed the the the plotist no I mean I mean I don't I don't think it ruins it like for the cops like I feel like you could learn more about the cops and it doesn't take away from the twists at the end because we because Donnie's a big character and I feel like obviously the main characters of the movie are Donnie Gerard there's you know Big Nick and Ray like those are the big three characters and you know again if you focus on anybody else it takes away from those characters and you know we might we might lose some of the great big nick scenes we get um but but yeah I mean I I don't know I just I think going looking like when I rewatched it again this this week I was like I I would have I and I I've felt like this before but I would have liked to have seen a bit more about the cops um just so just to have some more character some personality to them just because they're not they're not just bodies with guns for action purposes or so we can get some people shot or killed towards you know at the end in the third act. But you know it is what it is. It's still a highly I mean the movie is driven by Gerard Butler's performance ultimately so it's like it's fine. I'm glad with just it being the big Nick show.

SPEAKER_06

So when you're watching this um first time and you're trying to figure out who it is what were your theories like when you're watching it like well I feel like the move the move because yeah so the this movie has a big twist at the end where we find out that O'Shea Jackson Jr.

SPEAKER_02

is this is the mastermind behind the entire heist so the the the the main driving point or plot point of this movie is the big job is they're gonna rob the Federal Reserve Bank in Los Angeles. And there's like little subtle hints where like people where Ray Merriman's character is or the Ray Merriman character is giving telling his crew like oh we've got I've this is the info I've got and you know 50 Cent or somebody will ask like oh we're like who's your contact and Ray's like oh don't worry about it just knows where are you getting this information from because it's like the way I'm assuming because of how much they stole in the first one and how it went about the planning as opposed to the style and the difference of of how it's going on this one.

SPEAKER_06

Because even like 50 centers like look like he doesn't like the second line that he has in the whole movie is where are you getting your like he sees something that's kind of like not to Ray's MO and then same thing with the cops same thing he goes that this isn't your MO so what's going on you know yeah so I'm assuming that maybe he did things differently and yeah so so the the Ray and his crew are they are former Marines like we said we've established they are they were special forces a lot of them did they fought fought overseas in the Middle East so they're they're combat they're combat trained they're specially trained like and they they they were athletes they played football so the they're very you know they're a close knit team and Ray is very precise they're they're very precise they have you know they have strict rules with how they go about things and they operate as a military unit.

SPEAKER_02

Well because they were pissed because when the cop got killed right right well yeah so the the the opening of the film um gives us a nice statistic where it says every 48 minutes uh a bank is robbed in Los Angeles which I you know I didn't fact check I'm sure it's probably not accurate but uh you know fuck it I mean it's it's when you read it when the movie opens like oh that's that's pretty crazy you know it's like one of those like oh it's the LA it's the crime capital of the world or whatever it's like I I don't think that's actually happening.

SPEAKER_06

But I'm like how many banks are in LA?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah I mean I'm sure there's a lot and I but it's like I don't think one to be robbed every 48 minutes yeah it's like what like what counts as a robbery like if it stopped after like a second like is that really do we count it as like one of the robberies like there's 24 hours you're just telling me every there's 24 robberies a day. Yeah so like what are we saying you know yeah that sounds that doesn't sound right but hey fuck it I don't know math um and we what so the we're following an armored truck in the opening of the movie stops at a donut that makes a stop at a donut sh uh shop and then they're taken quickly by the crew who wanna want to break into the armored truck. We as you know obviously we in the when we're we don't know anything we're assuming they want to steal the money from the back of the truck and there is a standoff between the the criminals and the armored truck drivers and the guards and of course there's a cop or no there's there's a no the the guards are in the uh in the there's some guards in the donut shop and um when we see quickly these guys are professional they have you know they have high grade equipment they are able to pierce the bulletproof glass of the armored the armored truck and get the glass off they're able to get the guards um subdued and then things get messy because a guard comes out they're holding them at gunpoint and the guard gets startled spills his coffee and accidentally grabs his gun and they take it as he's gonna fire so then the cop gets shot or the guard gets cut shot and killed. Like Cheddar Bob correct yeah and so this leads to a shootout and then cops are now on the scene cops are on the scene and it'd be it's a pretty intense shootout a pretty cool shootout scene where we're again we're seeing the precision of the the criminal unit and they're using automatic weapons like military grid weapons so it's not like it's not some cheap thing you know and and they're they've they kill multiple cops uh and they manage to escape one of their own gets killed uh in the firefight one of the criminals is killed and then they escape they make their escape with the armor truck and then yeah we get like there's the I think shortly after we get the the line from Ray like well like we're cop killers now basically which puts them in a in a new bracket of criminal like it's one thing to be thieves but once you be once you begin killing especially killing cops your uh your notoriety goes up and and the the uh level of attention level of at yeah your GTA stars go up much much higher um so that's the opening of that movie or of the movie and then we get introduced to the great big Nick played by Gerard Butler and his uh merry band of crooked police officers their LA sheriff's department uh major crimes unit and a big Nick pulls up and is uh hung over looks like shit um and his got his eyes black I think what it is yeah one of yeah it looks like he's been punched in the face yeah one of his uh office one of his officers yeah he's like uh long night boss yes next question so um you know and they they have their rapport and then it like this scene is where you're like okay like it's it's toe in the line a bit of like being cheesy but also like it's funny like but I like it is the stuff where he's like I'm starving I didn't eat and uh I think it's barracho's like oh I think there's a couple donuts over there that don't have blood on them the pink sprinkle ones uh so big Nick literally takes like a donut from the the donut that the guard that got killed the night before was carrying and dropped a box of donuts and he's pulling it from the crime scene pulling a donut that doesn't have blood on it he's eating it and then tosses it back in the crime scene. Yeah no respect for police procedure apparently but he's a very high respected ranking lieutenant yeah so I guess by the way the most gangster looking cops I've seen yeah none of them none of them wear uh uniforms they're plain clothes but their plain clothes are flannels and hoodies I think he's wearing Big Nick wears like a like a leather jacket yeah he has like several rings on his fingers uh they look they look yeah they look like thugs all of them this is what do you expect from a crooked cop yeah I mean they look like crooked cops and they are crooked cops uh and w we get the uh there's an FBI character that is aware like that clearly has a back and forth with Big Nick and we get like the most square looking FBI agent just like a generic white dude like if you were to say Chat GPT make me a white guy that's in the FBI agent this is exactly what they would he would construct. Like this just the most generic looking white dude this is like the one that does the paperwork this is literally yeah and uh just yeah that's such a perfect just a square just a base like the most basic of basic manufacturers and for some reason he has the boss to stand up to Gerard's character. Yeah he doesn't like his character and he's like I don't like you and uh big that's a shame I like you wait wait what the fuck is that I like you and just big Nick he's just a he's a shithead uh vegetarian and again this scene is so like it's such heat because like right when Nick's like oh we're dealing with a different animal here boys and like that's like directly pulled from heat like the opening like question so now I'm gonna spoil it but so they're both cops? No De Niro's the criminal and Pacino's the cop gotcha gotcha but is that dynamic of the talk the dialogue well like the dynamic is is yeah it's what he's saying like the the the dialogue because in the in the opening of them of Heat De Niro's crew robs an armored truck uh and or I think they rob an am no it's they they they rob an armored truck and they do they the crime it's sim very similar where like they there's not meant to kill anybody but something goes wrong and there's there are fatal there's more c uh casualties they then become murderers so it becomes a bigger thing and when Pacino's character cases the scene the next uh the aftermath he's like oh like we like he's literally saying the same type of shit where he's like oh we like these are these we're playing in the big league like you know like these aren't regular criminals or whatever and so like now draw brother for big nick to be like oh we're the like different breed here boys like it's again indebted the heat inspiration love it great but um yeah again like you like you first meet these cops you're like how does anybody trust these guys to do anything these are these guys look like pieces of shit immediately they act like pieces of shit right away first thing um and they're assholes they're assholes to everybody to everyone they're assholes like why would you want to why would you want to work with these with these people they're they're like they they treat everybody like shit in this movie except each other but like they tr everyone they treat like shit uh and so like yeah as the movie um we get and then we we meet Donnie who works at he worked played by Ocean Jackson Jr.

SPEAKER_06

He works at this bar question right before we move on also LASD telling FBI it's our shit we're gonna do it we're doing it and it's like FBI is supposed to just stand down.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah and I'm like I don't that's not how that works but yeah the the whole the the the seniority and the jurisdiction of of this movie is very is very wishy washy. I'm also like bro LAPD's on the scene and but LASD tries to have jurisdiction yeah I mean obviously I'm not in law enforcement I don't know how any of that works I don't think den of thieves is probably accurately portraying what how the jurisdiction and and and level of seniority and who who gets what goes and who who can tell who to shut you know back off but Big Nick doesn't take he doesn't take no for an answer big nick gets what big nick wants that's big nick energy baby uh and oh yeah then we also find out the the armored van was empty they they stole an empty truck yeah so that's a big question and um so the movie so yeah that that's the the inciting incident and as the movie goes on we're we you know we it's the various like back and forth between Big Nick and then Big Nick and his crew get a hold of Donnie they they are aware of Donnie um who's a a driver and Ocean Jackson's character is the driver for Ray's crew he works at a a bar a German barkies a zippy zippies Ziggy's Ziggi's Ziggi's yeah he works at a bar called Ziggi's and uh drops a very like you know listen to this line where I'm in complete control of my environment is the line that's spoken by Donnie in the in the when we first meet him.

SPEAKER_06

No he goes why are you still working here he goes I like it it's gone something something and he goes I'm in complete control of my environment and no one even knows it.

SPEAKER_02

Right. So that's like our first tease of huh this maybe there's more to this guy than that meets the eye and so and then and even when the when the police are first kind of figuring out what like who could be behind this they already are aware of Ray and they've you know Ray has been I think they find out he was paroled uh recently in the last year and then they have they like him for a bunch of prior robberies where they big Nick pull they pull up all the prior like unsolved crimes robberies or heists and they link it to him and his crew and they say okay like look all these happen and then he gets he gets popped for I think like a bad light or something and there's none of these none of these same there's none no robberies or heist with the same MO happen the entire time he's in prison. So like it's gotta be him now he's out this happens they think he's active again they begin looking into him and his crew they that's where they get they they discover Donnie and then they uh kidnap him essentially from his after work at bar at that right there yeah and uh he tases him he goes as he turns on his car which we get a little nod to help how he likes driving past cars. Right and so he turns on the car yeah and then he wakes up in a hotel room yeah and like it's like dude you guys could have just interrogated him like anywhere but no let's bring him to a the hotel room where we have prostitutes alcohol drugs alcohol all the cops are like just dirt bag essential big nicks walking around like I think in just tank top or like in the like just shit bags and again like the way they're all acting are just like you guys are putting on way too much cheese on this sound like you guys need to tone like just tonight just dial it down like leave the cheese but like like all like um one of them one of the cops is like just has to have his gun out and put it at Donnie it's like dude what is he gonna do you got there's five of you in this hotel room and he's just like I like the smallest hotel room which again like these guys are such dickwads like they're such shitheads like I I hate all of them but it's entertaining to watch them act like this uh and it yeah Donnie's like why are my pants wet they say he pissed himself that one of the they had one of the girls clean him up I'm like what kind of shit do they got going on here man and that's when we get the big you know big Nick says uh he pulls out his badge like you know what this means like I like like we're like we're the biggest baddest gangsters around and um so that's he's asserting his dominance over him and he tells Donnie that he he knows he's working with Ray and he wants to know what he's going on so he's now he's he's turning he's he believes he's turning Donnie into a rat for him Donnie's gonna inform on Ray and his crew on what they're doing what they're gonna hit next or you know and maybe they'll cut a deal for Donnie down the line.

SPEAKER_06

What pissed me off the most about that is how quickly he folded no matter what it pissed me off like how quickly he folded but I mean I guess I guess it makes sense at the end but it's like bruh like I mean yeah but I mean ultimately he he's doing it it's on purpose.

SPEAKER_02

He's because he he wanted them to think he was working working with them.

SPEAKER_06

He wanted them to think that Ray was in charge of the crew no no I'm saying I'm saying like I know it's on purpose but for whatever reason it still pissed me off how quite well initially you're like what the fuck this fuck a bitch yeah like right away initially yeah before we know the whole the whole yeah it's like what the fuck did like you folded so fast I don't know but I did catch something the first scene or the the bar scene that I did I did peep it and I was like huh and it was when he uh the the white male I think it was a white male um says something along the lines of I'm all tapped out and he goes that's fine I'll put it on your tap and he goes takes the fuck off but he left the badge and then he puts it in the register.

SPEAKER_02

And that's the badge he uses yes later on in at the at the Fed. Yes. So yeah and so now we're we're leading it's it's a lot of buildup now to the heist so uh you know we get we get the little vignettes into big nick's life where again he's he go he go he goes home he's got a clearly troubled marriage his wife he apparently he big Nick accidentally texts his wife a message that was meant for another girl something like oh you were so bad last night or whatever like you're such a bad like the text is so fucking it's bad it's such a stupid text you're like oh MG that was so high you're such a you're such a bad bitch something yeah yeah yeah you're like I can't imagine I mean Big Nick would say some shit like that for sure.

SPEAKER_06

And then I'm like okay so he's overcompensating for Big Nick because he also told the black that he goes you got a small one for a black guy and then his wife as she's leaving him goes maybe I'll find someone whose dick it's hard for me.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah so obviously there's been there's been trouble at home between him and his wife so the wife I guess I assume it's the final straw she she leaves with the two kids it's a pretty kind of upsetting scene uh but he's you know he's just and uh so his life is falling apart and which all voluntarily it's what you get yeah it's all self it's like bro you could be focused here you have a nice home you have a family you have a nice house and it's like yeah why are you why are you being a dirt bank piece of shit be a cop you're a piece of shit he's a piece of shit it's all self-inflicted that's what you get buddy that's what you get with age like you're just like why yeah huh when you're like 20 like ah fucking bitch yeah when you're like now you're just like why would you do that you have a nice house like the mortgage is being paid you have a backyard you have a nice fridge bro he had a deck and he had a he had a front patio and a lawn you have an island in your kitchen why are you gonna blow this we're gonna blow it all up for what he had French storage fridge that's what we think about that like come on man you got a nice setup here you got a front yard how many people have a front yard you're gonna blow all that up oh my god for some for some LA escords man you lose for the bad B you and then you saw them like you're like they're not that hot no and it's like bro his wife is like really pretty by the way the pretty woman he's leaving street tacos she's let's let some street tacos get in the way of a beautiful life is what happens when you develop the front cortex the frontal lip cortex yeah well because you're almost 30 almost for man we're our our brains are finally are finally almost done developing we still got a few more years it takes us a while I'm just like whoa what are you doing bro that LG with the ice maker individual ice maker yeah it's hard to come across that shit man it things are expensive these days dude you're gonna throw all that away throw it all away for what uh so yeah so we get little vignettes into his life and then we we see how Donnie gets kind of uh integrated with Ray's crew Ray uh is very doesn't trust him uh at all and but uh Donnie has to show up and perform to get what he needs to to get the information he needs to get back to Nick. So we it's just a lot of like kind of just stuff happening going on as as they start planning the next heist and then Ray it's just it just he discloses to the crew that they're gonna rob the Federal Reserve which has never been robbed before and like we talked about he he keeps hinting at his source like gives giving him like blueprints and how things work down there and his crew is like how do we know this and he's like don't worry about it like just trust trust that I trust the information I'm telling you like just listen to me basically because even we get some there's there's a scene after they rob the armored truck where they're um cleaning some of the money and one of his crewmates is like like I think I think it's like two or three million dollars and he's like why like we're good here why why we need to you know clean this money for and raise like what would you want No no no he's like we just clean this money and we're good and then he goes but they're marked bills. But they're marked bills he goes would you rather have 10 unmarked bills or would you rather have 30 that no one knows about so he's already hinting at something like grander than yeah just a small yeah because they I think they had just robbed a stadium that's where that's where the cash came from and yeah so that's what he's pointing out to his crew is and so so the rave or something like that? Yeah they they some some raid rave at a stadium they we don't see it but they that's where they got the cash from so they have an armored truck they've stolen some cash but they're marked bills that they can't spend because they'll be tracked and so now they want to rob the Federal Reserve and because Ray explains this long process about what how the Federal Reserve cleans or destroys old money every day and so that's why it's what they make new money but that before but before the money is shredded it's like it's deleted from the system.

SPEAKER_06

So that's not traceable so you can sp you can spend that money anywhere but it gets shredded immediately after so that's a premise for mad money with Queen Latifah it's like a it's like the girl version of this where it's like Queen Latifa some trailer trash girl and then some uh the wife of a of a tax accountant or whatever that did fraud or something like that bro basically it's the whole premise is they steal the unmarked bills by working they're basically the people who throw them in the thing but instead of throwing them away they just theirs is a lot simpler where they just throw it in the cart back and then they keep it but then they get caught because the guy buys the RV the trailer trying to so it's basically that's where I knew that from and that's what I was like I wonder if he seen mad money.

SPEAKER_02

I'm sure uh so yeah the like the the whole middle chapter really is just the setup the planning for the heist and Nick big Nick and his crew trying to get the you know information from Donnie and s try to find out where Ray's gonna well what they're gonna hit because Donnie pretends that he doesn't know I'm just a driver, I don't know anything. And then as as Nick gets he starts to do his thing where he starts fucking with Donnie and then kind of uh basically involving himself or or putting himself in Ray's point like presence, like making sure it's known that they're on to him. And we get we get several um scenes back to back that are just top-tier shit. So we already talked about the garage prom scene. That's like the first one of the first ones where we get a little let's get a little bit into these guys. I think it's the only time we see Ray smile the entire movie, like like genuinely smile and laugh, not like when he's like putting on a show. Um that's what I'm like, hey, he's like he's just serious the whole fucking movie. If he's not like playing a part like he does at the end, it's like his genuine smile. Um so that that scene happens with 50 Cent's uh daughter, and then it immediately goes into this next scene where they're at like a Benny Hanna style restaurant, and and fucking so Ray and his crew, as including Donnie, are there with like their wives or their whoever their significant other that night or they're and they're eating, and uh Nick is there with his with his sheriff with his cop buddies, his crew.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, and clearly he's there on purpose to Well, they're hinting at it before they're like, but you're paying, and then he goes, I forgot, and then he gets served dessert papers. We already went over that scene.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, yeah, yeah. Right before that, he's been served by his wife that we get divorced, and we get the uh we get the whole welcome to the club line or whatever, like great, great support, buddy.

SPEAKER_06

This is when they're like talking about going to an expensive restaurant, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And then so he sees Donnie there with Ray and everyone, so Nick decides to go and kind of antagonize him a little bit, and he like pretends like that he oh, like that he recognizes Donnie from the gym. And Donnie, you know, obviously is like fuck like like they the cops because Ray's crew knows who Nick is because they did their research into Nick so beginning it's like it was like that's when they make the connection that they used to play football together.

SPEAKER_06

50 and him used to play uh football for whatever school Polly Cal Poly, I think.

SPEAKER_02

Uh Cal Poly. Yeah, and um so it was again like the mirroring scenes where Nick is doing getting the research on the Ray's crew, all the people like all the you know gets their background with their military experience, etc. etc. And then at the same time, Ray is doing his getting his information on Nick's crew and who they who he is, and then they I think they reference that somebody that they knew that Nick is the one who killed them. So they like they know of each other. Yeah, he killed the he killed one of their guys.

SPEAKER_06

So again, and it's just so funny because they show that sheriff picture and like the actual sheriff uniform.

SPEAKER_02

It's like a young photo of Draw Brother, like clean shaven, slimmer. Because he put on like I think he said he put on like the act draw brother said he put on like 15-20 pounds. Because like he's not fat, but he's just like he's just a bulky guy. He's the dad bob.

SPEAKER_06

He's the dad bot on steroids.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, like he's like you can like he's like those guys, you're like, oh yeah, he's like he was probably buff like 10 years ago, he was jacked, and now he just drinks too much beer. Yeah, you know, and he's too much.

SPEAKER_06

Still has that like barrel gun. Yeah. He's not the fat gun, but he has that barrel.

SPEAKER_02

He's a strong man, he's not a cut man, but he's very strong man. Uh he's got that drunk, he's got that drunk, that drunk uh bod right there. Uh good, good for you. That's what I'm that's what I'm striving for, honestly. I may not get abs in my lifetime, but I just want to look like I drink too much, but I could I could lift something. Um But I don't want to lose everything. I don't want to lose I don't want to lose everything like Big Nick did. Okay, I want to avoid that. I don't I wanna not the LG, not the LG ice maker.

SPEAKER_06

Once you get the French store fridge, bro, it's yeah, I got I gotta lock down.

SPEAKER_02

I can't break it.

SPEAKER_06

Okay, like once you get a French store fridge, it's different. But once you get one without a handle, damn.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's when you know you've made it. When you don't have handles you gotta reach under press it, that's crazy. That's crazy. That goals, that that's what you gotta aim for in life, guys. Don't don't worry about riches.

SPEAKER_06

They're not that expensive.

SPEAKER_02

Once you got a fridge with no handles, you know you've made it. Um, but this Benny Hannes scene is it's uh it's just ridiculous. I just love it because he's just he's just overselling it and he's just like, oh, like, you know, say telling the story to Donnie, and then he then he starts talking to Ray.

SPEAKER_06

They start having the fucking dick measuring content.

SPEAKER_02

And Ray, like, does is not engaging with him, and then Nick is just like uh he's just saying some vulgar stuff about you know like the big Hawaiians.

SPEAKER_06

He goes, uh yeah, he does something about the but he goes we come here for the piece of ass. Yes, and then it pans over to the two glands.

SPEAKER_02

That's the iconic line is that he comes to Benny Hannah's for the ass. He's like, the food sucks. We come here for the ass, is what he says. I'm like, who says something like that? Who goes to a restaurant? It's like we come here for the ass. Uh, Benny Hanna's. Who are you? That's a family restaurant. Who what ass are you leaving with?

SPEAKER_06

I mean, Big Nick can apparently most of most of if not all the chefs are like male.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Like again, it's like it's those restaurants are designed for like community, like communal dinner experiences. And it's like, I come here for the ass. Like you go for you go with a group, you don't go by yourself. Like you go to the you go to Benihannes to pick women up, like uh Big Nick, man. Amazing, amazing work from Big Nick here, though. Like, he's just doing just five-star class A work here, just dropping shit like that. And you know, uh Ray's response is like, we're here with family, bro. Don't really appreciate you popping off.

SPEAKER_06

It's pretty sick how you feel the presence of who Ray is, though. In that moment when he stands up, you're there's like for whatever reason, there's a tension that you can feel. Yeah, and I love that aspect of the movie because it's like uh Big Nick is doing this like peacocking, basically, where he's like peacocking, like, hey, we're on you, right? This is who we are, da da da. And then big or um Ray just gets up, all he says is hey man, we're a family, and then the other guy comes in and like plays the yeah, sorry guy, he's your beautiful family.

SPEAKER_02

You know, he's had a little too much to drink, and then and then they they leave, and just again, just just for that line alone, we come here for the ass, like worth the price of admission.

SPEAKER_06

That gives me Ben Diesel. This is Brazu. Yeah, literally, like that's what it gives me. That's what I'm saying. Fast this is Fast Five fast five coated as foot.

SPEAKER_02

And then the next scene after this is it just it's Nick and his crew in like some suit shop chilling, like where they where they're meeting Donnie. No, yeah, it's the next is the next scene where they're sitting with and Nick is like trying on jackets or whatever, and like they're all just like hanging out there.

SPEAKER_06

I'm like the Cayjones at the three suits for $99.

SPEAKER_02

Literally, I'm like, is this is this what you guys do? Like you just meet like CI informants, like just in rant like knockoff, like you're just at the clothing store fashion district.

SPEAKER_06

It's just so again, SD or Sheriff's Department has jurisdiction at the fashion district in command.

SPEAKER_02

They uh hey brother, they they got it all. Big Nick, big Nick, there's no there's no line he he won't cross. There's nowhere he's not the law.

SPEAKER_06

Big Nick is the Dylan Nabelet.

SPEAKER_02

Um, I just I don't I want to get to a point like when when do I get to a point in my friendships where we just hang out at like suit stores and just try on jackets for fun? You did oh yeah, for for the wedding. But like they're like in there like smoking cigars, drinking. Like that's what I want. That's what I strive for. Like, my I I need better friends, is what I'm saying.

SPEAKER_06

I what smoke shop is what suit shop is gonna let you smoke? We have to go to LA for that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you gotta be big Nick. That's a that's a big Nick, that's a big Nick specialty only. Yeah, um, and then after this is the shooting range scene.

SPEAKER_06

Where we skipped over the scene with uh where after the Benny Hunnas they take uh they take uh oh yeah, they threatened Donnie. Yeah, Donnie gets a question. Right, yeah, so so Ray and we see how in the dark fifties character is because he goes, smoke this phone, he actually socks him. Where Ray asks, or I'm like, bro, like why are you asking him um if he's a cop, if you know who the cop is? Like, and I'm just like, why are you doubting Donnie?

SPEAKER_02

Well, I think I think again, Donnie's whole thing we find out is he he even though he's giving Ray the information, he's not doing it in a way that But we don't know that yet. Not yet, but I'm just saying, like, looking back, right? Because in this in the sense you're like, why is Ray questioning Donnie's anything? But it's like you know, maybe Ray's like, Oh, is this guy am I getting the information from this guy because he's actually a cop or he's a he's a he's telling me this, he's setting me up. Because yeah, so you know, obviously Donnie like knows at that point of Betty Hannah's like, fuck, like these mother, like Ray and is gonna like be like, What the fuck's like why do you know this motherfucker? Why is he talking to you? So yeah, like you so they take him back to like their warehouse where they they already have a uh the the the plastic wrap set up to the tarp set up to kill him, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

They got the dexter, the dexterous they got the dexter and the uh what is that show? The breaking bath combo.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they've they've just got they're ready to murder him at it. Like you know there was like a text, like set it up, and like they just they're like, Alright, guys, we gotta get the tarp out.

SPEAKER_06

Um like like and then it didn't make sense to me why the big Samoan felt emotional after that they let him go. That big Samoan, I was like, why is he so invested in Donnie's character? I didn't get that, but it's a nice little thing to see there because like you don't see that the one with the beard, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Well, no, that that that's he's part of his like Donnie's side crew.

SPEAKER_06

We don't know that they have well no, but I mean again we know that afterwards, so that's why I know I like the I like the shock at the end because then you go back, like me, I go back and remember, oh but I was just like in the moment, I'm like, why is this big Simone carrying about Little Ice Cube?

SPEAKER_02

Right. Uh and so yeah, so they they threaten Donnie, they scare him, and you know, think if if he's a cop, and Donnie tells him that they did question him, that that he doesn't know shit, because I don't know shit. I'm just a driver, you guys don't tell me anything anyways. What what would I tell him? And then Ray says, Okay, you're gonna keep basically keep it up with him and give him what he needs, and and you know, tell us what you get from him. So Donnie is rescued for the moment, and yeah, so then after that is the the cigar scene and then uh the shooting range. So again, this is just this is becomes like the back and forth between Nick and Ray. So Nick shows up to a shooting range where where Ray and 50 Cent and uh Cheddar Bob are already at.

SPEAKER_06

And then again, Ray's just fresh out of jail. We're supposed to believe that he can handle a firearm after he went for a crime.

SPEAKER_02

Well, he well, he he was he's he's a special force military.

SPEAKER_06

Again, you still going to jail for uh a crime. I don't think they'd let you uh get a weapon after that. Maybe, you know, but that's what I'm like, there's a lot of things that you just like who knows.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, you can't think too hardly about a movie called Den of Thieves, buddy. Uh so so but it wants you to think too hardly. It becomes this becomes like a dick measuring contest where Ray and his crew are there they're training, obviously they're warming up and practicing for the upcoming job they have where they're gonna be shooting quite often, potentially.

SPEAKER_06

Which is masked by them being Marines who just want to go shoot.

SPEAKER_02

Right, and Big Nick shows up just again trying to fuck with him, get in their heads, and uh Ray notices him. Big Nick is like again being himself, where he's like peacocking, giving the smirks and the looks. Ray is still very stoic, looking straight, like he obviously knows he's there, and it becomes this like then Big Nick decides, oh, let's let's have a dick measuring contest, and I'll start, I'll shoot and show off my skills. And then we don't see it, but you hear the rapid tap from on from Ray's side of the rapid firing, where he's you know, he's double tapping quickly, quickly, and then like just releasing shot after shot after shot after shot, and uh he does it like three times where like he's you know he reloads quickly, you know, shoots the you know, shoot empties the clip quickly, and then they leave, and like you can see Ray's kind of like, yeah, motherfucker, like that's what I did. And then Nick goes over there and pulls it, pulls out, pulls his like the little target thing he was shooting and sees how precise his his yeah, all center, and then Nick is kind of like he kind of is like ah fuck like uh is that the would that be the scene of the diner? Uh I think the diner scene, I mean it's the Benihana scene. No, I think the diner scene, well I think their version, like they don't really have the the big diner scene. I think this section of like because like from Benny Hanna through this next chapter chunk chunk scene where he where Nick goes to the strip club and gets the girl that Ray was with at the the dinner at the restaurant and then takes her home and sleeps sleeps with her. And I think when you know when and then uh Ray walks into his I don't know, I'm assuming it's probably her apartment, and he walks in and sees Nick walks out the shower, and there's like the little tent scene where the gun is on the counter, and you think you know, is Ray gonna go for it, and then Ray just walks past him. Um I think that that chunk is like their version of the diner scene of like this is like the back and forth between these guys and like what they're doing to like get to know each other or like fuck with each other, and then like they have the the scene on the phone at the Pico Rivera bank where I think it's like the dialogue because they don't really they don't really talk in this chat like chunk.

SPEAKER_06

They only they kind of talk at the Benny Hannes scene, but they don't really um the the cool thing about seeing a movie is after the sequel already came out, because I know Gerard Butler and the uh Ice Cube son or sorry, I should call him his name, but uh Little Cube, um they're in it together. I'm like, okay, so the whole time I'm thinking the cop is in on it during the first movie. So I'm just like is so then I'm at this point I'm just like oh okay, the cop is feeding him information. And I'm like, does the cop know about the Federal Reserve? So that's that's where I'm kind of like, and then I want to know what did she do?

SPEAKER_02

I I don't know what so so I I think what what is implied there is that she told him about that they were gonna rob the Pico Rivera bank, the first bank that they hit, that they pretend to rob. Okay. So she tells him that because after he leaves the apartment, he's like, hey, it's on Pico Rivera Bank and such and such. So that's what she so that yeah, because when Ray goes in there, we think he's gonna like get do something bad to her because she slept with Nick, but then we she says, I did what you asked me to do. So we we find out that Ray orchestrated that, wanted to told her to sleep with him, and then give him information. So she we don't see it, but she tells him that they're gonna hit this bank, raise, you know, so so then the next morning is uh now it's getting prepared for the heist. So we get the you know uh yeah, Big Nick goes to say goes to say bye to his daughter at school. Um he only goes to say bye to the one yeah, yeah, and then uh and then we get we get the two mirroring scenes of uh the criminals and the cops uh gearing up. Uh 50 Cent says jock up. Uh and then you know what's pretty funny?

SPEAKER_06

50 Cent has no lines, yeah. He loses the most.

SPEAKER_02

Every time he speaks, it's every line he has besides the garage scene, it's like two words max.

SPEAKER_06

And then he loses the most because he he had a family, he had kids, he has a yeah. Like we just saw his daughter go to prom.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's married, he's seemingly happily married.

SPEAKER_06

He's got family there. Yeah. At Benny Hott.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he gets fucked the most, he loses the most. For like four lines. I doubt Cheddar Bob has it. He has nothing, he has nobody at home. He's got a he's got a cat that he goes home and throws salami at or something, like and whatever tri whatever uh truck stop prostitute he picks up. Yeah, the Simones got each other, so they Yeah, they there's there's like 80 of them, you know, at every barbecue. Like, they're fine, like they'll they'll figure it out.

SPEAKER_06

But yeah, like and then they're not fifty 50 Cent has a house with a pool.

SPEAKER_02

They're all hanging out there, they're all hanging barbecue there.

SPEAKER_06

He has a nice garage, he's got a little weigh station, the doesn't need a kicking spot. It's his bad. They're risking a lot for he lost it all. French stores, man.

SPEAKER_02

For what? For a little 30 million?

SPEAKER_06

For a little 30 million.

SPEAKER_02

And uh yeah, so they're so they gear up, they're gonna hit the Pico Rivera Bank race crew. They they genuinely they break into it, they they shoot, they fire some shots, they get they get all the the bank uh guests and the staff there locked up or tied up, and they instruct the branch manager to call the police. Nick is or they're they're surveilling them. They see them go in there, but they're like, we're not gonna take them until they come out because we want to get them, we want them after they've committed the robbery, because it's not a robbery until they leave with the money. So they're surveilling him.

SPEAKER_06

But so that's what they're saying that for, but they just want to kill him and take the money, correct?

SPEAKER_02

The cops? Yeah. No, no, no, no.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, they actually want to arrest him?

SPEAKER_02

They want to stop them, but they they won't stop them until they leave the bank with the money.

SPEAKER_06

It's already a robbery right there.

SPEAKER_02

Like, well, I mean, that's just that's this thing, like you know, they they want that's okay.

SPEAKER_06

So then my whole couple of things.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I think I think if I mean again, I'm not I don't know the law, but I I'm assuming it's attempted robbery if you don't do it, but if I it's robbery when you leave with the money. I don't know what cop would have not But I think I think I I mean also too, I think I think they want the firefight. Yeah, Nick wants the firefight. Nick wants the firefight.

SPEAKER_06

That's what I was that's my question. I'm like, because Nick is very persistent on letting them take the money and goes back to the the original car to look for the money. So I'm like, nah, I think this was just wanted to take the money. He's like, I already lost my family.

SPEAKER_02

I'm sure they would have skimmed a little bit off the top, those cops. There's no doubt about it. They would have they would have taken the 30 mil and they were or whatever they would have spoken. How many rings? How many more rings? How many Benny Hanas? You know how much ass at Benny Hanas he could have got with that little bit of money like the is three suits a hundred dollars.

SPEAKER_06

You know how many suits I buy?

SPEAKER_02

Although those jackets aren't cheap, man.

SPEAKER_06

That's why he gets to smoke at the suit shop. See, you gotta go drop a bench.

SPEAKER_02

When you pay top dollar, you get to smoke at the suit shop. So three for three for ninety-nine dollars.

SPEAKER_06

It's a three-piece suit for $99. What more do you want?

SPEAKER_02

And uh he they get the branch manager to call the police uh and to call in for backup, and they they list their demands, they want uh a helicopter, they want a chopper with fuel to deliver whatever, like $10 million and low denominated bills or whatever, and they don't want to talk to a negotiator. Um, and so then a bunch so now a bunch of cops arrive. Nick and them try to you know get them and get that get away from there, but it's too at that point that the FBI shows up, and immediately Nick is like big Nick is like, This this is off. Like, this is not their MO. Um, this is not how they do things, like what what the fuck is he doing? And then the negoti uh of course after asking them to not bring in a negotiator, a negotiator calls the bank back and asks to talk with Nick or with Ray, and then so they pretend to kill a hostage because they say if we don't meet our demands, we'll kill a hostage every hour. If you call again, we'll kill another hostage. They don't meet their demands, and he's like, Congrats, you just kill the hostage. So they pull someone into the room, fire a shot. We don't see it obviously happen, and then they blow, they they think they blow the vault because the the entire time they're acting as if they're gonna rob the bank. Uh and then Nick gets impatient, he knows something's off about this, has his uh, you know, his as most people do with trucks, you just have a crowbar in the back and gets a crowbar and uh takes the takes the bank on his own. Uh pretty bad tactics.

SPEAKER_06

And every cop truck has the toolbox.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, there's just a there's just a toolbox back there. You gotta crow, you gotta have a crowbar, man. Come on. If you have a truck, you gotta have a crowbar in the back. Or else what are you doing? Why have a truck if you're not gonna get the crowbar? I think it comes with the dealer. I think they throw that in.

SPEAKER_06

The Jason thought special.

SPEAKER_02

Uh and Nick enters and sees all the hostages, but the the crew's gone, Ray's crew is gone, and uh we just we discover that they went under the under the bank and into the sewer and exited out near the Federal Reserve. So this was a whole obviously just ploy to get them, get the cops to one side of the town so they can get to the other side of town and start the actual job. And so Nick realizes he thinks he knows where they're going, um, gets you know re reassembles his team and they exit to go after uh to go after Ray and his crew. And at this point, Donnie is now um now that we find out the purpose of the stolen cash and the armored truck. So they've the stolen cash was cleaned, put into the armored truck, they're gonna deliver the cash to the Federal Reserve and get the count, and then while that's happening, they're gonna initiate a brownout where it'll take down a lot of the electrical systems in the count room at the Federal Reserve and allow them to steal the money that's been deleted from the system, and they'll now have unmarked bills, millions of millions of unmarked bills.

SPEAKER_06

This is all of my favorite heist movies put together.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean it's it's a pretty intricate plan. Like even when I was watching it, I'm like, you know, because obviously I've thought about like what kind of movie would I want to make? I'm like, I can never make a heist movie. That's just it just seems I don't feel like I'm smart enough to like even if this half the shit isn't real, like how do you even make this shit up? Like, just like all the steps and rules and what like how do you how do you like who even comes up with that shit? I think this might be based off or inspired by a robbery like that almost happened or something like that I don't think it was not not the Federal Reserve, but I think something they someone that some somebody did somewhere.

SPEAKER_06

Well, the EMP aspect of it is just giving Ocean to love and ocean.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean this this is the more heisty element versus like crime.

SPEAKER_06

So shocking to me, bro. They have censors. Oh, I don't want to get ahead of myself. Never mind.

SPEAKER_02

No, I mean we're we're getting to the end of it. So but like so Donnie is hide, it's Donnie's hiding inside one of the cash boxes that they're put that they're pushing. So Ray and 50 Cent, I don't know what it is. I think Laveau is his name in the movie. But Ray and 50 Cent are pushing the cash and inside one of the cash, they're they're disguised as armored security guards.

SPEAKER_06

Uh and when they're going over the details of how they're gonna do this, every camera in there, as soon as they get it gets a picture of you, even if you have unpaid parking tickets, it's gonna it's gonna flag you. But as soon as he goes in there, he has a fake ID and all of his criminal gone, bro.

SPEAKER_02

It falls apart when you start digging a little too. Deep into it. And so they're they're pretending to be the armored security and they're there to make the drop. And Donnie's hiding inside one of the cash boxes. So once they get the the box into the the count room, which is like sealed and has cameras and motion sensors, Donnie turns on an EMP to turn those off so he can move in there without getting caught. And he begins to steal the cash that's been that's been deleted from the system. And so now it's like this this you know tense scene and uh this like scene of tension of of is he gonna do it in time before the cops catch him before they have to turn the you know turn the sensors back on or turn the emp off and there are like cop there are cops that are you know guarding the area walking to and from the the area so that's like the the tension in the scene and uh of course he does it, gets gets the money into the trash the dumpster below the dumpster chute, a trash uh a dumpster van dumpster truck takes the money, which is one of their guys, of course. And now it's time for Donnie to make his escape. And so Donnie is earlier in the movie took this job at like a Chinese takeout place where he delivers he delivers food to these two ladies at the Fed who I I guess order frequently from there. I guess I'm assuming that's why he took that job. And so he delivers to these ladies, ladies earlier in the movie, figures out the latest line of how to get in and out as a visitor of the Fed, and we see when he delivers the food earlier in the film, he leaves a second bag of food up in like in the bathroom.

SPEAKER_06

I thought that was gonna be the EMP.

SPEAKER_02

Right. Um that probably would have been smarter than delivering old like somebody would have somebody would have noticed the smell.

SPEAKER_06

We're gonna get to well, it's in the bathroom.

SPEAKER_02

Someone's gotta clean that shit.

SPEAKER_06

But it's in the bathroom. You're it's always gonna you're always gonna be like, all right, it smells bad in the bathroom.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I guess you're right. You're right, you're right. I'll give that one to you.

SPEAKER_06

That aspect of it, I get it.

SPEAKER_02

But so so and and so now he's he's Donnie escapes to the vents, he's wearing his red delivery shirt for the from the company, and um, and we we get little tidbits of the two ladies complaining, like I we it's been I ordered this an hour and a half. Yeah, it's like I only get so long for lunch. You get a two-hour lunch? How long is the lunch break? You should be done. You should you you should be back at work.

SPEAKER_06

They can skip it for one day.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that was like you're stretching this. Like they would be off their break already, they would just have gone to get something else.

SPEAKER_06

Like I'll I'll go over like so so far. It's the food, the the like you said, the red shirt, he's in the air ducts. Everywhere has motion sensor but the air ducts, right? It's like bro, so like you're going back to your point earlier when you're just like, bro, there's uh I could never think of this like this, so they think of the most intricate plots, but then this is these are the little plot horse that are like right, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Of course. I mean, there's the there's always gonna be that when you when you start deep diving deeper into the.

SPEAKER_06

When we look up the movie, what is it, the movie sins for this?

SPEAKER_02

Cinema Sins? Cinema Sins. I'm sure, yeah, yeah, I'm sure there's a great one on this. Uh so yeah, so Donnie he g escapes the vent, delivers the food to the ladies. They're like, you know, yeah, he's covered in sweat, and they're like, Oh, and they we would tip you, honey, but this was two hours late. I'm like, you guys should not be on your lunch break anymore. Oh my god. Why isn't your boss looking for you?

SPEAKER_06

And then the fact that one of them is eating the food just Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So the one lady find like immediately she's like, No, this is gross, and the other one's just eating, she's like, I don't know what you're talking about.

SPEAKER_06

Like scoping it down, bro.

SPEAKER_02

Like that food has been there for several days. Yes, not refrigerated, just in a vent, under the uh over the bathroom. That food has got next to the light, it's got shit particles in there, dude.

SPEAKER_06

That had to have mold already, but yeah, it would not, it would be it would be an eatable, like you wouldn't notice it right away, but for whatever reason, this is like you're being all finicky.

SPEAKER_02

I'm like that that you're a different breed. Like, like I eat gas station hot dogs, but like even I have a line. So she eats gas station sushi. Yeah, absolutely, 7-Eleven sushi. Oh my god. Uh, and so so Donnie escapes or he makes his exit because he he uses the visitor badge that he got from the guy, or uses the badge that the guy gave him from the bar to get through the door, yeah, get access, and then he has the visitor badge from the last time he was there to leave, and then the the lobby security guard who was a dick to him the first time he got there.

SPEAKER_06

No, I'm just like this dude takes his job way too soon.

SPEAKER_02

That's why. Like when the first the first time Donnie go delivers the food, he's he's giving him like buddy, you're the doorman. Yeah, relax, relax.

SPEAKER_06

You're you are this is why you died in Deadpool too.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, like you you need to stop. Like, when he's like ID, he like doesn't even put his hand out, he's just like wants Donnie has to like reach over the counter to give him the ID. I'm just like, dude, he's delivering food. Like, obviously, in the high grand scheme of things, this guy's a criminal, but it's like you don't know that. He just he's delivering food. What are you being an asshole for? For what?

SPEAKER_06

I'm also like there's no one that could this dude is literally gonna go deliver it all the way to one of these security guards would have taken it and have them come bring it. But for the plot, he has to go deliver it all the way to the cafeteria.

SPEAKER_02

Right, right. Um, but yeah, so so that that same of course that same lobby security guard is there, and then he's like, he recognizes them, but he's like, you you know Well, that's the whole plot.

SPEAKER_06

That's the the arm or the hole in the plot.

SPEAKER_02

That's like, yeah, he had to sign in on the first one, so that would have been the yeah, so and he's like, You didn't sign in the set for obviously because he didn't go into the through the front, so he didn't sign in again. So he's like, the whole hang up is there's no signature here, and he gives them like some half-fest. Well, I did it with the guy in the last shift. Um, so you know, it's very thinly believable scene, but also he goes, he's giving him such a hard time, and he goes, All right, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

What are you giving me the hard time for then, dog?

SPEAKER_02

That's why he just gives up at the end and is like, dude, you're what you you need to do. You're a security guard, dog. He's top lights. You're a renticarp. You're a rent a cop. Like even when he stands up at the end, because of the the ladies in the in the break room call. Oh, yeah, I guess they have they have the ability to call the front and instruct the security in the lobby to stop people on their behalf. It's a bank reserve. So he's like, Yeah, you need to stop that guy, and he's like, What? But he stands up, like, you don't even have a gun, dude. Like, you're not that like you're on the bottom of the totem pole. Like, what are you gonna do? What are you gonna do? You're gonna be a dick from afar?

SPEAKER_06

Even all every figure of authority in this is like a dick because even the cops upstairs that are like taking care of the the people like throwing out the money, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Even them themselves are assholes, they're assholes. Every cop in this movie is a terrible person.

SPEAKER_06

You know what cracks me up about the scene upstairs, real quick, just to go back when they're uh they're waiting and they're like, Oh, we're we're the new guys, we're lost, da da da. He's Ray is doing all the talking. 50 is legit just like this. Yeah, maybe he'll give a glance or two, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But he's just literally like yeah, Ray, who has said almost nothing as well in the movie, the most stoic serious man, but he's over there giving, like, oh, how you doing? He's uh what's his name? How's it say hi to your mama for me? You know, he's just he's Roman Pierce, and yeah, he's just he's these he's the chatterbox, he's he's the smooth operator, and if yeah, 50 cents. Now 50 is a stoic. I don't even think his character knows how to talk in this movie, honestly. The guy does says nothing. Uh he's like yeah, just looking around. Like, you guys are not, you guys are you guys you guys look like bad news.

SPEAKER_06

But also, is that a shout to 50 that he could be just the presence?

SPEAKER_02

That's why I think that's the thing. He's supposed to be like, yeah, like he's like the physical presence, and that he says more with his with his with his you know uh physical language than he does his verbal language.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, uh yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That's the I think we unlocked his we unlocked his potential. That's what he needs to be doing. He needs to stop talking in movies and just just act, just just move, use his body.

SPEAKER_06

I don't think black and white movies would work.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know, man. But uh yeah, so so Donnie is able he makes his exit before the security guard is able to grab him, and now it's and then he just gets caught by the worst dude. And Nick and his crew catches him because they know they know he fucked him over.

SPEAKER_06

I would have loved a scene where that security guard is like chasing um uh what's his name? Donnie and then just sees the cops grab him and beat the shit out of him, and then just like yeah, I'm good. I'm good. You guys got him. I need that scene, bro.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they beat the shit out of him in the truck. Like they punch him all every cop in there punches him.

SPEAKER_06

As soon as they throw him in, hit him.

SPEAKER_02

The one dude comes in from the right, cracks him, the dude in the passenger seat cracks him, Nick cracks him like three times. I'm like, guys, where is he gonna go? He's cuffed. That was so bad. I'm like, that was that's he gets cuffed right before when they're gonna go.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

They just beat the shit out of him in the truck. I'm like, damn. Uh, and then he Donnie gives them the rendezvous point. No, he's just getting his ass beat. Yeah, WA got his ass beat. Yeah, he just can't win.

SPEAKER_06

Dude, get out of LA. This is why he joined the military and went to go fight Hunker. Godzilla?

SPEAKER_02

To go fight Godzilla? Yeah, yeah. Better odds. Godzilla would treat him a little bit better than the police.

SPEAKER_06

He had no bruises.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he he he survives Godzilla, so he, you know, he he's doing he's doing better in Godzilla than he is in either ended, straight up comp to. He needs to leave, yeah. I mean, uh obviously, LA is a terrible place. I said it and I mean it.

SPEAKER_06

Our homeless people are stabbing.

SPEAKER_02

Where? In LA?

SPEAKER_06

In escondido.

SPEAKER_02

Well, they need to go too. Honestly, you know what? We know what we need in LA. We need Big Nick. I think we need a little bit of we need we need that big nick energy. Big Nick will clean these streets up.

SPEAKER_06

No, that one's gonna fuck me up just for smoking on my way home.

SPEAKER_02

Stop hitting the penjamin. Uh and so, yeah, so they've they've made their escape. They the money has and the money has entered on you know in the in the trash, the dump van, and uh fast five. Literally, I mean this is like the height, it's like the heist, the fast five elements of heist, the heist, you're right. And they've met at the scrap yard where they're gonna get rid of get rid of some of the swap. Yeah, they're making the swap. And now the money is loaded where it needs to be, and Ray and his crew get in uh a new a new vehicle to make their escape to go before they get the money. And at this point, Nick is on them.

SPEAKER_06

Which does Nick know that they're going to the Federal Reserve, or he just knows they're gonna be around the area?

SPEAKER_02

I think well he I think he does.

SPEAKER_06

I think he knows they're gonna be around that area. Yeah, that's right. And then so the whole reason they get caught is LA traffic.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, that is all and you know, another sign of why LA's bad. Uh yeah, though the whole the whole downfall of this crew is is LA traffic.

SPEAKER_06

That's literally it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, um, and uh the yeah, so Nick is is closes in on them and Ray and his crew clock them from behind. They're like, oh, that's like twenty fifteen, twenty cars behind them.

SPEAKER_06

They see Nick's truck, and they know they've gotta they've gotta make their escape on foot at this point, and which bro the to I think hopefully I didn't mishear hear it, but I'm pretty sure he said 35 cars back or 25 cars back. It was like a crazy number. Like, how did you start with the stupid fucking number? And then it's like run. Yeah, you don't have to get it. You're 25 fucking cars, yeah. Gerard Butler is not doing cardio, bro. Yeah, clearly he's not doing cardio. Maybe the one from Gridiron Gang catches you guys, yeah, but as long as you outrun Cheddar Bob, you're chilling. Uh but no, their whole thing is like, hey, they're 25 cars ahead of us, gunfight in LA traffic. Yeah, and then it's like all these people right here, fuck them. Yeah, he just like get the what did he call it? The saw?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, the saw. Uh and so at this point they know it's gonna be a fight, I guess. And so yeah, so because I think for even 50's like, give my vest. He's like the first one. That's like his, I think his second to last line. Give my vest. I think that's the biggest line he has in the movie besides the garage scene. So they they start they start gearing up, they put their tattoo, their bulletproof vests, their Kevlar on, get their get get their weapons ready, and they're gonna make an escape on foot. Uh so i and this is a really cool scene where yeah, Ray gets the saw, get plays, you know, uh positions it on the hood of the truck, begins firing through the windshield of the of the vehicle, through and and just through every fucking through everything. It just destroys everything.

SPEAKER_06

So his moral compass goes from we're cop colors to we're gonna kill everybody.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, get in his way, it's over. Get in his way, it's over. Nothing will get in his way. He's not going back to prison. He's right, he's not going back.

SPEAKER_06

What do you tell the sheriff? He goes, uh, I'll see you soon. No, you won't.

SPEAKER_02

No, you won't. Well, then even at the bank when he calls, because he called Ray calls Nick on his phone, he's like, tells you, like, I'm not, yeah, I'm not going or I'm not cuffing up, and then Nick drops like, Oh, that's good, because I didn't bring my cuffs anyways. So like that's about the whole thing throughout the movie.

SPEAKER_06

Would that be the diner scene?

SPEAKER_02

Not the diner scene, but the di like Well, that's and that that's a big thing in uh Heat is De Niro's character tells Pacino like I'm not, I'll never going back. Like, I'm not going back. And then and then at the they literally mirror the scene at the end when Ray is dying. And he's like, I totally am not going back. That's that's literally from Heat. That's literally from Heat. Like that dialogue of like I told you, I told you, like, that's a whole recurring thing in Heat is how De Niro says, I'm not going back to prison. Um, and so like this movie literally is that's all Ray's care. I think that's only the only thing that Ray says beyond little beyond beyond grunting is he's not going back to prison. Uh so yeah, so the the firefight erupts, uh Barracho on is killed. The the or as the movie, if you if you don't, if you aren't weird like me and know these characters' names, the Mexican guy on the on the police dies, and Cheddar Bob gets killed as well, and then it becomes a chase. Uh and yeah, I mean it everything happens pretty quickly at this point. Uh 50 Cent character dies, his last words are my kids. So he knows what he's losing. And uh what was the point of running?

SPEAKER_06

They didn't even take the money.

SPEAKER_02

They're they had their own, they they were they were fucked. Well, they didn't have the money anyways, they didn't know that.

SPEAKER_06

So, why the fuck run if you're not taking the money at least with you?

SPEAKER_02

They were in a pinch, baby. They had to get out of there. I don't know. Honestly, it kind of falls apart at the end here.

SPEAKER_06

It does. I'm just starting to put it together that it falls apart. They just leave the money behind. The money gets left behind. They start a gunfight for no reason, then they run, don't take the money. So what is their plan? Like they're gonna go up ahead, kill the cops, and then come back for the money?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Well, I don't think that I don't think they knew they had all of it. I think they were supposed to meet somewhere else for the money, for the for the the the whole pot of money. Like they were they were supposed to they were supposed to be.

SPEAKER_06

I thought they had loaded the the trash bags into the suburban.

SPEAKER_02

Well they yeah, they did, and I think so, but I yeah, I don't know.

SPEAKER_06

Donnie got burned.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_06

And then I don't know who else got burned.

SPEAKER_02

The uh I think his name's Jerry. He's the guy that was like the with the beard, the the guy that was like on the on the phone, correct? The phone. So they they were burned.

SPEAKER_06

Um when he goes, What happened to uh to Donnie? And he goes, He got burned, and then the the big guy was the one who like took it to heart. Right. So I was like, What?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so so again, they they decided to leave behind what they think is the money because I think they were like uh I don't know, pretty stupid. You go through all that and not try to get the money. I mean, you're if you're gonna if you went through all that, you might as well fucking try taking the money with you. That's what I'm saying. What do you do? Uh but obviously it's not actually the money because we we we'll find out that Donnie was Donnie fucked him all over. But yeah, so the Ray's crew is all killed. I mean, 50 Cents killed. Uh his last line is my kids. So I guess he's thinking about one good thing. He remembers he's a father before he dies. I would have said even the what's his favorite guy from Gridiron Gang tells him, you know, you're you're in the Lord's hand now. Like, oh, you're a nice touching moment, I guess, after you just murdered him. Uh you do cocaine, you fuck prostitutes.

SPEAKER_06

You're a crooked cop.

SPEAKER_02

Typical God believer. You'd be the biggest dirtbag in the world. Got God on my side. God is good, God is everywhere. We're getting off track here. Uh this is coming off the rails. This is what happens when I don't do the podcast for a month. So then now the last like fight shootout is Nick and Ray. Ray runs out of ammo and and pretends like he's gonna fire on Nick, and Nick kind of hesitates for a second, tells him not to, and then he pretends to pull or he pulls the trigger, but Ray's gun's empty, so Nick unloads on him and pause, pause, and uh kills Ray, and then you know Ray's final line is yeah, told you I wasn't going back, and yeah, you did, so totally from heat. And and you think that that's the end of the movie, there's still like 15 minutes left.

SPEAKER_06

Uh, because no, because now when now I was like, that's when I was like, okay, this is gonna be the reveal, because again, I've only seen the trailer for the second one. I'm like, this is gonna be the reveal that Gerard. And then like he goes back to the money and it's shredded, and I was like, whoa, whoa, whoa, when did he get the shredded one?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and now uh so yeah, there's no money there. Um and now Nick is like uh like looking back at all everything on for the case and is like trying to figure put pull piece things together.

SPEAKER_06

Goes looking for Donnie.

SPEAKER_02

Goes to find yeah, because when they get back to the car, Donnie's escaped. He's not long no longer cuffed to the truck. And when he goes to find Donnie at the bar, he discovers that Donnie quit uh and left, left town or whatever.

SPEAKER_06

Talks to Ziggy, Ziggy has more lines than 50.

SPEAKER_02

And then yeah, and then Nick begins kind of looking around the bar.

SPEAKER_06

Looks up, he sees the loose lip sync ship.

SPEAKER_02

Yep, but then yeah, you see Donnie's Donnie was playing. Donnie's was like on the soccer team with uh like all the Samoans. He sees the some of the people that were that are were part of the crew are there at the bar. He sees the people that work at the like the and then he walks out and sees how close the Fed is to the bar.

SPEAKER_06

Well then like the the cool thing is that you start seeing the is there dialogue in it? No huh.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I think it flashes back to when like Donnie's like, I'm in complete control of my environment. Uh and then so like now Nick puts together, like, oh like Donnie was the mastermind. And then we start seeing flashbacks that you know Nick was not a part of, so I don't know why it would show them, but telling us that what how what happened. So Donnie approached Ray, gave him the plans, and all it's like, it's my crew, yeah. And so that was like the way it had to be where Donnie was the mastermind, but it was Ray's job that he was running. But then Donnie was still scheming behind Ray because then we discover that the money that they took, Donnie's crew intercepts it and takes it before, you know. So Ray, Ray's crew never even had the money, and Donnie is the one, you know. So Donnie was the criminal mastermind here. Uh and which, yeah, it's like the it's just a big twist. So I remember them in the movie, like I was like, oh, that kind of came out of nowhere. Well, it's now making it not came out of nowhere, but I was just like, I mean, not that I was like, that makes no fucking sense, but I was just like, oh, okay. That's a nice twist. I didn't see it coming at all.

SPEAKER_06

I didn't see it coming at all, but uh now I'm like, oh okay, that's why it's called Den of Thieves. I was like, I just thought it was like, oh sick. It's like the the I I thought it would be something about like maybe they have like a base, hey, uh like a base where they hang out ass, like a den, you know, something like that. And now I'm just saying that it's a den of thieves. Like it's like Donnie stealing from this one, but Ray was gonna fuck over Donnie, and then the cop was gonna fuck over Donnie, so it's like the den of now. I'm like, okay, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And uh so then like the the coda, so Nick is kind of Nick Nick has that moment where he's like kind of laughing like a ha like this fucking guy.

SPEAKER_06

Like he got like Hobbs at the end of battle.

SPEAKER_02

Literally 100%. I'm telling you, this movie Danza Kuduro starts playing in the background, and uh, and can I tell you the worst part about this whole movie? Is it his uh English accent?

SPEAKER_06

Thank you.

SPEAKER_02

Horrible, horrible hello governor, hello governor. My name is O. She Jackson Jr.

SPEAKER_06

Tell me that's the worst one he could have done. Bro, you don't have to pretend you're British. The British are gonna know you're not fucking British, dog. Fucking, oh my god.

SPEAKER_02

It's me. I'm from foggy London town.

SPEAKER_06

What is he going to go?

SPEAKER_02

The reserve, the diamond exchange. Yeah, so so uh Donnie is now pretending to be uh a British local at another at a pub, and uh he meets the great uh the one of the biggest characters in the movie, Michael Bisbig. Michael Bisby's character, I don't even know if he has a name, who's like a uh uh works at like the jewelry or diamond exchange across the street from the bar, and so he's a you know, a big suit, rich, you know.

SPEAKER_06

Let me get some pints for me and my friends.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's just a you know, he's a douchebag, clearly. Uh and Donnie is doing what doing what he did at Ziggy's bar in LA where he's casing it, casing the joint, learning everybody's it's a bar, it's a place close to some, I guess the job next job he's casing, and then we see in the bar at the pub that's some of his buddies from the LA bar. So he's working his next job, and then and then yeah, we see Max Holloway, we see the the other one, and then yeah, then we ever remember when I saw I was like, You didn't have to do the accent, dude. Like he's trying to do a terrible English accent. Let me get you another point, you and your like you and your friends, let me get you another point. Like, just it's so bad. Like, it's more. I mean, it's my mine's terrible too, but that's uh that's pretty spawn onto it. That's how bad it is. Like, he's just doing like a generic, like if you were to be like, How do you do a British accent?

SPEAKER_03

Hello, hello governor, hello governor, hello governor, some tea and crumpets, please. A fish and chips from my mice.

SPEAKER_06

Like, it's he's speaking to Mancunian, but he's like doing the worst one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and so that's how so the movie ends with now, yeah. Donnie's the mastermind and now he's ready for his next job.

SPEAKER_06

I love the bot twist. Yeah, that's a quick. I love the movie. I love the psychology of it. But it like you said, if you do start digging into it, you're just like, why? It just starts falling apart. Yeah. So I can't deep too like I can't go to that.

SPEAKER_02

No, if you start digging too deep in this movie, you're like, wait, that doesn't make sense. Why would that happen?

SPEAKER_06

But it's but it's entertaining, and again, it's like a it's a to me, it's like a 90s heist movie meets like inception.

SPEAKER_02

Right. It's it's very reminiscent of like a 90s crime movie. Like it's not again, like it's not uh A class like heat, but it's like a B plus, B minus. It's a solid, solid movie.

SPEAKER_06

And I don't know if you're gonna hate the take, but it's Takers Done Better.

SPEAKER_02

Well yeah, because Takers is like a Takers is a I enjoy Takers for what it is. I don't dislike Takers. Takers is not a good movie.

SPEAKER_06

That's like, oh, it's boyfriend size. Don't give me that shit, dude. Boyfriend size? What the fuck is that? Oh, you've never heard that one? I haven't heard that one.

SPEAKER_02

I haven't been a boyfriend in a long time. True. I'm a whole ass husband.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, what if I go off king? Go off king.

SPEAKER_02

You fucking we're my husband at.

SPEAKER_06

He was representing Pride Month this one.

SPEAKER_02

That's right, brother. That's right, brother. I I took a vow a vow of silence.

SPEAKER_06

That's why you be at North Park.

SPEAKER_02

I'd be everywhere. Eddie Park. Northwest, south, east. Um I bet you go south a lot. Hey man. No. Absolutely not. You brought about to say yes. I was gonna agree with you. I'm not doing that. Um yeah, so so good ending, good movie, solid movie, a movie that again, like it just has there's just some ridiculousness. But it but the ridiculous moments, like the Benny Hanna scene, the like it's all entertaining. Like, and I think honestly, like if it wasn't for Gerard Butler, like going as hard as he's going, is like it's he's genuinely good in the movie. Like the character is ridiculous, but he sells it. Like he sells the guy, like he sells the guy. Like uh, I think the criminals, like I think Ray is really good. Donnie's Donnie's a lot of fun in the movie.

SPEAKER_06

50 phenomenal.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it doesn't say anything, he doesn't need to. Um, and yeah, just a lot of fun, like a cool, a cool heist movie. It could have easily been like a junky action movie, uh, but I think it's pretty restrained with the action. Like again, it's only the the beginning and the end, but I think the heist is pretty cool. I'm sure if you again if you dig too deep into it, you can start poking holes in the logic, which this movie you can do that with this. I mean, that's most movies, but this movie in particular if you think too hard about it. But I mean, that's heist movies in general. If you like start digging picking apart heist movies, you're like it's all you know circumstantial and it's all co like you know um coincidental and convenience is uh the word I'm looking for. It's all very convenient plotting like all that that happened because this happened, and that you know it's all very convenient for the characters and just to get to the next scene for it to continue, which that's let's just play that that's just how it goes.

SPEAKER_06

For me, you just tell me what movie to watch, but how would you tell someone to watch this movie? Or what would you be like? Pitch me this movie for like Friday night.

SPEAKER_02

I I would say, I mean, I I would say it's it's it's like a B it's like a B movie, it's like a B ripoff movie of heat. That's what I would say.

SPEAKER_06

Like it's it's I don't pitch it to me like I don't want to watch it. Pitch it to me like that.

SPEAKER_02

I mean I would just say it's like it's heat for like Guidos. I don't know.

SPEAKER_06

I don't know. I mean uh it it's it's like makes perfect sense for this movie.

SPEAKER_02

It's it's just it's junk, it's called I would call uh this I'm stealing this from the from a much better podcast, uh The Rewatchables and The Ringer, but but it's it's like junk crime, like junk, like it's it's not bad. If junk food is good, we like junk. I mean junk food's not good for you, but it's we enjoy it, we love it. So it's like but you know, it's it's it's just it's just it's good trash. It's good trash. It's trashy. It's uh it's a trash or piece. There we go. It's it's uh there's nothing else quite like it. And there's there's movies like this where it's like it's uh it's not it's not that it's like not like a so bad it's good, because I don't think this movie's bad. I just think it's it's the movie, I think, definitely thinks maybe it's a little bit more classier than it is. Yes. Um, but there's also but the movie at the same time, I think, also knows like this is a bit ridiculous. Like Gerard Butler, Gerard Butler knows what he's doing, like he's playing the character, like he knows what movie he's he's in.

SPEAKER_06

He tones it up in the second one, though, because he goes, This is my my my gay lover we met on a cruise or something like that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, the second movie is basically it's like Fast and Furious Six. We're now now like we're like in the sixth one of The Rock is now working with Vin Diesel and the crew, so like that's what Dana Thieves 2 is is Big Nick is working with partners with Donnie to do a job. Nice because I think the premise is he get he's he was fired finally from the surprisingly, he was fired for the city.

SPEAKER_06

Telling me he didn't get fired for starting a fucking massive murder on the 10.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Um turns out he maybe he didn't do his job very well. So I think so. That movie he's joined forces with the criminals.

SPEAKER_06

Telling me the guy who was stopping sex workers and like just an upstale citizen, bro, yeah, gets fired. The lieutenant? No.

SPEAKER_02

I know. Shocking news. Uh so I think that that's the premise for the second one. Uh, do I think that is the premise for that? Is I don't know why I think that is it a good sequel?

SPEAKER_06

Is it worth watching?

SPEAKER_02

I think it's good. I I like the first one better, but I think the the second one is I think again more like fast and furious kind of coded, I think, whereas this one's like heat coated, like more heisty. I mean, the other one there's heist, a lot of heist elements to it, and there's a lot of uh bait and switch as well. Nice. Um it's it's it's a good sequel. I think it's it's worth the watch for sure.

SPEAKER_06

Um well this one was definitely worth the watch. Like again, most of your recommendations are.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I just want to do a fun movie, man. A movie we could have a laugh about and enjoy. Uh, you know.

SPEAKER_06

I wish you would have been this loose on the Tropic Thunder one. You don't think I was loose on the Tropic Thunder one? I think we could have said more outrageous too.

SPEAKER_02

Half of that podcast is me doing an uh impersonation of Robert Jenny Jr.

SPEAKER_06

I think we could have, I think we could have done that one a little bit more.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I could have let loose more.

SPEAKER_06

I I think we could have because this one you were just like, fuck it. It might be the last one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean fuck it. This might be it. I don't know. I think Tropic Thunder, I was like, this is my this is my uh Academy Award-winning performance here. I gotta do this.

SPEAKER_06

No, that was done when you uh released the theme song.

SPEAKER_02

Well, you know, that was when I got my Grammy.

SPEAKER_06

But your grandma called you after that?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, my Grammy. She said, Rudy, that's a terrible theme song. Please delete it.

SPEAKER_06

Uh I blame you for that rapper that came up on my feed. What rap- Oh, the one he sent me. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_02

Hey man.

SPEAKER_06

I know you're gonna feature for him.

SPEAKER_02

I'm a musician now, alright? I need to I need to get back in the stew, though. I need to start making more music. People have been d people have been demanding more music.

SPEAKER_06

This is what you you should have said that during your hiatus you were working on an album.

SPEAKER_02

I wish I was doing something cool during my hiatus. I was doing nothing.

SPEAKER_06

Sometimes you need to do nothing.

SPEAKER_02

I was doing nothing. I I got nothing, nothing done. Um, I was wasting my time. Uh and now I'm back delivering this uh C plus podcast that I think people enjoy.

SPEAKER_06

B minus.

SPEAKER_02

This is a B- podcast for sure, but hey. I like a BS passing. So I'll take it. Um, yeah, man. Dana Thieves, good movie. Check it out, it's on Netflix. Uh Gerard Butler at his at his at his best and his bulkiest. Um, 50 Cent. A man of little words. And uh what are you talking about?

SPEAKER_06

Man stole the show. He did. He was he was doing his best gym.

SPEAKER_02

The Charlie Chaplin of his era. Yeah, he's just looking at the camera, reacting. Looking at the camera reacting, yeah. Uh a lot of fun. That's a lot of fun.

SPEAKER_06

Cool little, you know, it's American cheese. It's it's top gun.

SPEAKER_02

It's a good Netflix watch. This is a good movie to watch at home. This is Netflix, yeah. This is a good Netflix watch. This is the movie that for sure, like if you just need something to put on and you you don't have to think it catches your attention enough to where you're not scrolling on your phone. Right. And you can't, like, you can you can and you can like again. I think it's a little too long. You probably movies this movie could probably be like a buck forty-five, a buck fifty.

SPEAKER_06

But for but what we're saying for Netflix, it's pretty good.

SPEAKER_02

But I mean, hey, again, if it's on Netflix, you can there's you can get up and go to the bathroom. Yeah, pause it. Just make sure you don't miss the Benny Hannah scene. Oh man. Make sure you don't miss the garage scene.

SPEAKER_06

And you definitely don't want to know how privileged Netflix has made me feel to where the point where I'm at the movie theater, I'm like, I wish I could pause this. Yeah. I know. It's it's getting hard.

SPEAKER_02

I know there's there's like I've been going to movies now, and I'm like, can I just like turn the subtitles on? Like I wish I could.

SPEAKER_06

Why is it so loud at the explosion?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Um, yeah, it's it's uh it sucks. We're getting old, huh? It's uh we're getting old, and people are just don't know how to act, and you know, people going to theaters don't know how to act anymore. All of them. I'm just saying, like, theater etiquette is like it's just because people are so used to watching shit at home now. You can just watch all these movies at home. Bro, I you can pause it, turn it, you know, you you're on your phone half the time when you're watching shit, anyways. Your subtitles, you just get or you just get up halfway and go do something.

SPEAKER_06

And I'll be too I go to the movies with like they only recline now. Because if I'm gonna spend money, I'm gonna go see that, you know. I got sciatica now. Um and I'll take a blanket or like a sweater, but it's to sneak in the food that I'm like, bro, like theater food is good, like uh at Angelica's the Nacho's. It's expensive, it's expensive. Not even that, bro, but like I just don't like it. Like, I would rather take like some food, you know? Cause again, movie like the Netflix thing. Right. You're home, you can just I'm at home eating a burrito, so now I'm at the movie theaters, I gotta eat popcorn. What kind of shit is that? No, I'm gonna sneak in my burrito.

SPEAKER_02

Get that burrito in there, baby. Uh yeah, but hey man, glad we did this. This was a lot of fun. Uh good to have you back. Yeah, I think you haven't been back since Warrior was the last one you did, I think, with Kevin.

SPEAKER_06

No, the dance one.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, was it dance movies? Yeah, that was dance. Yeah, that was the last one we did. Uh which was a lot of fun.

SPEAKER_06

I've been on here so many times.

SPEAKER_02

We've done a lot of episodes.

SPEAKER_06

Uh schedule's up at 27 cents.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you're making, you're making, you're almost making a dollar. Almost. Oh my god. Dollar an episode. Uh I've made no money off this show. I've lost thousands of dollars thanks to this show. But uh we're gonna get in the green before we know it.

SPEAKER_06

I don't know, dog. Today was a good day. Fun pod. Palatero came through.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we got an ice cream. We have an ice cream we need to eat. I was gonna eat it before this.

SPEAKER_06

See what I mean?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and I'm excited. I gotta have an ice cream later. Um, this is great. It was a great time.

SPEAKER_06

Now we got ice cream.

SPEAKER_02

All right, man. Well, this is fun. Have you seen anything fun lately? Um World Cup? Just been watching the World Cup?

SPEAKER_06

Just pretty much just that. I've been just consuming like very niche content. I haven't had time to like watch anything. I'm gonna go watch Obsession this week, though. Yeah, you need to go watch Obsession. I'm gonna go watch Obsession. It's a great film. It's my favorite movie of the year. Spider-Man. I need you to either buy my ticket the day you go or I need to buy it the day. I need I'm not missing Spider-Man. I'm not gonna fucking there's no way I can't go on Thursday. I'm not gonna go on Friday on my TikTok 7 a.m. and then fucking. You'll be spoiled. You will be spoiled if you don't see it Thursday night. So I need you to buy my ticket for Spider-Man.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'm excited for Spider-Man, the Odyssey.

SPEAKER_06

The Odyssey. I'm so excited for the Odyssey, bro. I love the Odyssey.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'm excited for those movies in July. Um yeah, I'm looking forward to it. July has good movies coming out. July's got some good stuff.

SPEAKER_06

That's why I was looking forward to your I know.

SPEAKER_02

I was I should have done an update, but I uh I hope this gets you back in the mood of it.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. So that way you can tell me what what's coming out in July. Because there is some pretty big movies coming out, right?

SPEAKER_02

I mean, those are the two. Um the new minions movie comes out next week. I'm gonna take my daughter to go see Minions and Monsters. I wasn't go I wasn't because the last couple of those movies I've been like, these are stupid.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, you thought they were ever. Yeah, absolutely.

SPEAKER_02

I look, I like the the Minions movies have not been good. Despicable Me? Despicable Me is good. The first minions I think I've seen once and it's fine. Yeah, the second The Rise of Gru is ass. I I went, I took my nephews to go see it, and I was like, this is I think I that was the first time I was like, I think I'm too old for this kind of stuff. And then I I wasn't gonna see minions, I didn't really care for minions and monsters, but I saw a trailer, and there's a joke of the trailer where one of the minions is wiping his ass and he runs out of toilet paper and he opens and there's like there's like a mummy and he starts pulling the bandage from the mummy, and like it was like the funniest thing in the world to me. I'm like, alright, I'm gonna go see this movie now.

SPEAKER_06

What's your favorite joke from that franchise?

SPEAKER_02

The speakable me? Yeah, I honestly I've not seen them a lot to know uh really jokes from that mom.

SPEAKER_06

My favorite one is from the second one, just because this one made me laugh for 30 minutes. This is pre-me getting high, so I wasn't even smoking at the time. This is just peak comedy. So he goes, My name is something something apple bottom, and then the minions just go bottom.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, the minions are usually the funniest thing. Uh they just say so much shit. It's so funny.

SPEAKER_06

Like it's like it's funny how it's like it's like almost English, yeah, but it's just it's I mean, they're like background characters you have to watch for the movies because they're doing the most outrageous in the background.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they're they're funny. I mean, I I I don't know anything off the top of my head, but they I the minions and despicable me goaded minions on their own.

SPEAKER_06

It's like okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean I think the minions, the minions on their own, it's like it was a little bit too much of a good thing, like they're not meant to be like a front and center. So we'll see. I'll I will see if this new one's okay. It looks funny. I mean, the chat that joke sold me. I'm like, all right, I'll go see it.

SPEAKER_06

So I I can take it really. The one I'm looking forward to the most is Spider-Man. Yeah, that's it. Because like I've been watching like the suits, how I was inspired by L3 now, the wrinkles, like just everything about it. And I'm like, I'm just excited.

SPEAKER_02

I'm excited too. I I'm I I like the new direction they're taking. I like the new director they got.

SPEAKER_06

I think I like that he's in production.

SPEAKER_02

They're going more practical with with the suit and the action because I think while I really love the the first Tom Holland trilogy, like it's I mean, that's just the Marvel of that era, but the MCU of that era where like it's just there's so much CG and blue screen, and I mean that there's look, there's gonna be a lot of that in this new one too. It's not but but they've they've they've really emphasized like how they're trying to like film film like on location and do like stunts and um get away from like the multiversal aspects of what the MC was doing and just kind of making like a like a new like a uh a classic New York Spider-Man story, like a lot of his old like um comic villains are coming, like we're like we're gonna see a bunch of like comic villains that are just like you know, dorky, but just like uh but it's great because it's we're going back to Marvel, we're not going back to Hollywood Marvel, right?

SPEAKER_06

Um, where we're like we need to go to space.

SPEAKER_02

Well, it's all the memes, all the memes, right, where it's like, oh, every everybody when when uh spy when Peter Parker's broke and heartbroken and single, and you know, like everyone's cheering. That you know, that's that's our Spider-Man. That's our Spider Man. We need the broken.

SPEAKER_06

Yes, we need to be down bad. We need the one that lives. What is it? What did we get in Spider-Man 3 where he lives in a shitty apartment, has the Polish girl like on his truck.

SPEAKER_02

Well, yeah, like that that's always been him.

SPEAKER_06

He's always been he's it's because we're not we're this is P this is Spider-Man, this isn't Iron Spider, right? Which we jumped right away into the Iron Spider with Civil War teasing us, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, and I get that because like it was we finally have we have game the MCU had been established now for eight years, and we had we'd had two Avengers films, so like to finally get a Spider-Man with the other characters. I get that, like the excitement like to want to do like the let's have the collaboration with Iron Man and Doctor Strange and uh you know Nick Fury and all that, have him be in the Avengers, like that was all cool. But I think now that we've gotten that, we've we've seen Spider-Man with the Avengers, now we can just let's bring it, let's reel it back, yeah, and let's just have him be on kind of on his own.

SPEAKER_06

I like what uh Tom Holland said. He's like, we're kind of going back to the original Spider-Man who's a dumpster diver making his own lenses because he can't really see. And then I'm excited, I'm just excited to see this one because it's really tapping into a lot of the comic. It's giving me um do you remember the animated show? I think from the 90s, that one, yeah. It's giving me that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'm excited. Yeah, I'm excited too. I think I think they're taking it in a good direction. I like that they're peppering in. Like I love that the Punisher's in it. Yeah. Um, I love that like I do love that Bruce Banner's in it, um, in the Hulk, but but uh we'll see.

SPEAKER_06

I just want the moment from the comics where he goes, Bruce forgot, I did it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. So so I'm excited. I'm excited to see.

SPEAKER_06

I'm more excited to see the what the Punisher does.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, dude, I fucking love I love John Burnthal as an actor, but I love his punishment.

SPEAKER_06

Doing the clap, what are they arguing about? I need to know what is he what did the Punisher say to piss off people?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's so good. I'm I'm excited because obviously the the Punisher in the MCU thus far has been able to be like vulgar and cuss and kill, and like now he's gonna be in a PG 13 movie. I think I read that like Tom Holland was like, Yeah, and every time he's about to say the F-word, like like Spider-Man like webs his mouth or whatever. It's like that's not spoiling. That's how you yeah, but I mean it, but it works. Like, I mean, we see a bit of in the trailer, so I'm excited to see them, their collaboration, like uh uh and interactions together.

SPEAKER_06

Um isn't Daredevil supposed to make an appearance too?

SPEAKER_02

People are hoping he's in it. Okay. Um the actor Charlie Cox has said he's not, but he I mean that doesn't mean anything. That means absolutely nothing, especially after the hand is in is in this and Punisher. So I'm like, come on, like the hand, who's the hand? That those like the ninjas that are usually they usually fight Daredevil. Oh the triad. The guys in the red. Um so I'm I'm hoping I hope he's in it because I I mean he was in No Way Home, but I I would like to see Spider-Man and Daredevil in costume, but I guess it just depends.

SPEAKER_06

I I don't know how the show ended, so please go.

SPEAKER_02

Well, the most recent season would make it a little difficult for that to happen, I think. Yeah, I know kind of blue see what happens, but I don't know. So we'll I don't know, but these timelines are so who knows.

SPEAKER_06

They're bringing back uh uh Robert Downey Jr. bro.

SPEAKER_02

You can do whatever you want, you can do whatever you want at this point. Uh but yeah, man, you should go see Obsession. That's like a fucking great movie. Go watch Obsession this week. Legitimately great movies. Yeah, that's my new uh that's that's my favorite of the year so far.

SPEAKER_06

Um that's what I was gonna ask you. Um like Obsession or uh or um weapons.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, it's still weapons. Oh weapons is a is a a more confidently made movie. Okay, obsession is great, it's fucking great, but it's very much a first, you can tell like it's it's his first movie, it's a very, very tiny budget. I think it's like $750,000, whereas Weapons was made for like $20 or $25. I think it had a had a much compared to this, had a much bigger budget. Um and weapons is I think it's just more cinematic. I mean, I don't want to say that obsession weapons is just it's just it's just there's more behind it. There's a little bit more money behind it, and the director's a little more confident. Um wep obsession though is it's for what they were able to accomplish with the the little money they had and how good it looks and like how effective it is, is insane. Like that's kind of that's one of my biggest positives of it. I mean, on top of the fact that I'm in love with uh Nikki um as is the rest of the world. But no, but I mean it's it's awesome, and and the things he does, like with no money, like the tricks he's able to pull, like without not having any money is really cool. Like you just all enjoy it. Yeah, it's it's really not like terrifying scary. It's more um psychoso scary? Not even that, dude. Like it there is like there there are some there's a couple moments that are creepy. Like it's it's creepy. Okay it's it's there's a lot of dread and creep like creepiness. Gotcha. Um, you know, it's not really like jump scary. There's like there, but there are moments that are just in it's the sound, but it's also more like you're creeped out, but then you're also like are like laughing uncomfortably, like it's a lot of like secondhand embarrassment.

SPEAKER_06

Someone online said that if you've dated a toxic guy, you should be fine.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, I mean, yeah, probably. Okay. Um I'm sure you'll you'll recognize some some things. Uh it's yeah, it it's it's it's funny. Like you're you're you're gonna laugh, but you're gonna be like laughing, like, oh my god, like this is like it's funny, but like should I not? Like it's secondhand embarrassment, like some of the shit that happens. It's and then it just it's crazy. It's crazy, dude. Um, I love it. It it's great, it's great. It it's genuinely creepy moments, pretty funny in like, but in like bad ways, like funny in ways of like like it's you like feel bad for laughing, but like you don't have like there's you don't even know how to like that you don't know how else you can react to certain scenes, like but it's so good. So good. The girl Indy Navaretti who plays Nikki, the girl that becomes obsessed, is fucking amazing.

SPEAKER_06

Like I uh I'm I'm going to this one with an open mind. Weapons was a little bit tainted because you shitted on my movie.

SPEAKER_02

I didn't shit on sinners. I never shit on sinners. I love sinners.

SPEAKER_06

I then you didn't have me on for the episode because I was lacking melanin. So hey man, I was gonna shit on it. Like not obsession, but I definitely that was weapons was my get back.

SPEAKER_02

But this one I'm going into it. Don't punish obsession for my love, okay?

SPEAKER_06

No, no, no. This one I'm going this your love for the actress is making me open-minded. Like, if you're so it must be for a reason.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, beyond the fact that I I find her very beautiful, she's no, I just thought you meant the act.

SPEAKER_06

Like, I yeah, no, she's genuinely amazing because you did tell me that her acting was like genuinely like next level shit.

SPEAKER_02

Like, she's I'm hopeful that she's gonna have a really great career and she makes really smart decisions on the stuff she does next. Like, I I think like it's kind of crazy what she's doing in this. Like, I've never like it's it's not something I've seen in a while, like an actor do, like, especially like in a horror movie, like it's pretty fucking insane. Like, it's crazy. It's crazy. Like, she steals the movie. Um, but yeah, man. I hope you see it. Uh maybe we'll talk about it. I I I need to do it on the podcast, so we'll see. Maybe when it comes out. But uh, thank thanks for coming back.

SPEAKER_06

Of course, thank you for having me back.

SPEAKER_02

Uh hopefully this is not the last episode. Hopefully it's not. This one was fun, dude. It was a good time. I like talking about silly movies like this and and getting into all kinds of different things.

SPEAKER_06

But um I'm so glad you're like in your like not wanting to do shit because I know this one's not gonna get edited.

SPEAKER_02

I'm just like, yeah, I'm just gonna release this bad boy. You're just gonna slap it. You're hearing hearing coughs or farts or us scratching our nuts in the background. Like, that's that's all we're just raw dogging this episode, baby. Pause we're raw dogging it. Bale, me and Bale are raw dogging it today. That's what we're doing.

SPEAKER_06

All right, guys, we're done.

SPEAKER_02

In honor of Pride Month, we're raw dogging it. Alrighty, see you guys.
