What is stealing your joy?

In this episode of the Twin Cast, we talk about joy, comparison, faith, and staying focused on the path God has placed in front of us.

We dive into the difference between temporary happiness and lasting joy — and why true joy is not based on circumstances, success, money, or what other people are doing.

Sometimes, it is so easy to look at someone else’s journey and start questioning your own. But this conversation is a reminder that our walk is our walk. God is ordering our steps, opening the right doors, and teaching us something through the process.

We also talk about how comparison, disappointment, and discouragement can distract us from what God is building in our lives — and why we have to protect our joy, stay in our lane, and keep moving forward with faith.

In this episode:
• The difference between happiness and joy
• Why comparison can steal your peace
• Staying focused on your own walk with God
• Trusting God’s timing in difficult seasons
• Finding gratitude even when things feel hard
• How testimony can impact the next generation
• Why consistency, faith, and persistence matter

Sometimes protecting your joy means learning to mind your business, keep your eyes on God, and trust that He is still working — even when the process feels uncomfortable.

Mind your business and let's continue in the good work that God has put before us, right? Just stay focused and remain consistent, persistent. God will bless you when it's time. He's teaching you something through the process. Thank y'all for joining the Twin Cast. It's the podcast where business and faith are our foundation, and a good laugh is always on the house. We're identical twin sisters navigating the real estate world one deal at a time. The twin cast starts now. Welcome back to the twin cast, where Nicole and Cherie, Identical Twin Sisters, and your host of the Twin Cast. Where we talk about faith, real estate, and leveling up. Nicole, let's go. All right, let's get into it. All right. So today I want to talk to you about joy. You want to talk to me. Well, to you and our listeners, of course. Right. Let's talk to them. Okay. So I had a friend the other day ask me, or really, we're just having a conversation, and she says, Sheree, I just want to be happy. I just want to be happy. And she had seems as though she's been searching for such a long time for this happiness. And I'm like explaining to her, you know, you'll find not just happiness, but you'll find joy when you find Christ. When you find Christ, that's when you'll find more than happiness. You'll find joy because happiness is temporary. It's because you bought something, it's because you got the new car, you got the new position. But joy is not situational. You can have joy regardless, whatever the situation is bad or good or uncomfortable. You can still find joy. And so I encouraged her to find Christ one, but it began to make me think uh more about people that already have joy. You know, what kind of things are a distraction from joy once you have it? Because it's a constant thing, you know, like people are always trying to steal your joy. And so I said, you know what? I felt like I had then found uh that was all over the place. You know, like once you something gets in your mind, you just kind of start finding it all over the place. Well, that happened. So that happened to you, okay? What happened? What found you? Okay. So then I started thinking about a comparison. You know, people we're we're happy, we're excited, we're in this moment, and we think all these good things are happening, right? And just, you know, as we're in that moment, uh something happens and we start comparing ourselves to somebody else, right? Like this person uh got the job promotion, and I should have got the job promotion, and I work harder than she does, and you know, she's not good as good as me. And you know, things like that start to happen, and we can have that that moment steal our joy joy that quickly. And so I wanted to explain, you know, our job is not to look at other people and uh get distracted in their their good, whatever good is happening for them. Your walk is your walk, and it's between you and God, and God is ordering your steps and opening the doors that He wants open for you at that time, so it doesn't have to do anything with the person beside you, behind you, in front of you, wherever they may be. That's none of your never mind. That that mind your own business. Mind your own business. You gotta mind your own business. Mom said, mind your own business. Mom said, and she was right, and we didn't know, but that's actually in the Bible. The Bible says, mind your own business, not in those certain terms, right? But it does say to worry about yourself, and um, and it's important because it can become a distraction. Um, we were talking to a owner of uh uh Atlanta Wilde, Mia, and she had told me told us about this 23-year-old young athlete. Uh extraordinary athlete. Yeah, extraordinary. She, I mean, in her own words, you know, said that he had never done uh CrossFit and gymnastics and the things that he was walking into, uh, you know, he just excelled very quickly in such a short amount of time, and so much so uh that they decided to put him in a competition that was uh very unique. I feel in the fact that he, because he was so new at what, you know, those movements that he would that he was going to be performed, but they uh put him in a situation where he was going to compete with other athletes that had been doing this for years. So they had that much confidence in him, right? So he joined this competition, and it was just him and this other uh competitor, and they're doing this race, and he was doing uh, I believe it was mar uh bar muscle ups. And so he's doing these movements, very uh rhythm is important. I mean, every second counts, and so he's doing these uh these bar muscles uh muscle ups and he's just flowing and he's just I mean, actually, he's just smoking, he's just smoking his competition over here, right? And he briefly for a second looks over at his competition, it throws him off rhythm, and he ends up losing the race. And he would have never lost the race had he not looked at his competition. And so uh I'm happy that uh that he decided to continue the race. But what my what I want people to think about is that that brief second that you look over at your competition can cause you to lose the race. It can it stops at forward uh momentum. And if you're in motion, and in the right motion, keep going, keep it going. Yeah, you know, keep that motion going. And and had he kept going, uh, he would have won the race and then he would have had a story to tell. But like others, you know, we get distracted by that other person that we're looking at uh uh at the side on the side of us or behind us or what have you, and we're thinking, why? It doesn't matter why, what's happening in their life? You don't know what God has orchestrated for their life at that time and what they need in their life. God has already made that plan. And you know what? If they're not walking with God, that's none of your never mind either. So uh mind your business and let's continue in the good work that God has put before us, right? You got to stay in your lane. Um, and if you stay in your lane, that process that um that God has set before you may not be as long. It may be shorter if you remain focused on what you're doing, on what God has called you to do. If you just stay focused and remain consistent, persistent, God will bless you when it's time. He's teaching you something through the process. You have to go ahead. There's a scripture that says, Arise and shine. Uh, Deborah was saying it to Barack, and he and he was getting ready for um a battle. And she told him, Arise and shine, the glory of the Lord is upon you. And that's what we should be doing every day is arise, rise, arise and shine, right? We should shine and we should be the example that other people need to see. Uh, our light should shine so bright that people say, What is going on with her? How did she do it? She's she doesn't deserve that. She's she's, you know, what's going on? Because as soon as they start doing that, we get the opportunity to let our God, his light, we get to say, God did it, it's not me. It's not me and God. And we say that in in real estate or um, that the biggest referral, the biggest testimony is sending a referral is saying, hey, Nicole helped me, or such and such helped me. But being able to be uh a referral and saying, hey, God did it. It had nothing to do with me, it's all God. I say that often because uh being in this industry for so long, um, it can't be me. It's all God. It can't just be me. I mean, it can't be. God has helped me in instances and scenarios and places, put me in places I in rooms I had no business in. But God opened that door. Uh, being persistent and knowing, putting all my faith and hope in him has helped me stay in this business because I will tell you, in any industry you're in, any walk of life, it is it is hard sometimes. You get discouraged, but don't get discouraged in the process because God is going to take you where he wants you to be and put you in the place that he wants you to be at the exact time that he wants you to be there when you're ready for that. Uh, I was talking to one of my friends and I was telling her, hey, we're we're in different situations, but in the same situations, because some of the same um disappointments are things that we are navigating through with our children. Um, and but we're in different walks of life, but we are in the same, everybody has a story to tell. And you can find find relations that they can relate to. Um, but I think that it's amazing that God puts people in your life that are maybe just one step ahead of you, or maybe have been through that that same situation um a week ago and can say, hey, hang on, change is coming. It's you're gonna get through it, don't worry about it. God's got a plan, you just hold on. Um, and I I love that God puts those people in your path, um, and that we can be an example and a testimony to those those people, and you can be that testimony. I think that's our biggest thing is letting people know through that process you're gonna be able to uh break generational curses, whatever those may be. Maybe it's uh alcoholism, maybe it's drug addiction, maybe you fill in the blank. You know what you're working towards or working out of. So hold on, keep pushing to the goal that you're trying to get to because there's a reason you're gonna be able to help. Maybe it's your friend, maybe it's your uncle, maybe it's a brother. You're gonna be able to help that person get through it by you being you putting in the work because maybe they can't put in the work. They are not able to, maybe they didn't have that friend that knows Jesus, but you found a friend that knows Jesus and got you there. Because your light is shining, right? Because you decided you made a choice to have that joy and find God, and then he let your light shine, so then you can let that be a testimony to other people. In the book of Joshua, it starts to it starts to talk about when the Israelites were coming out of the Jordan, and he tells them, Bring 12, he said, Pick 12 stones, um, and I want you to bring those and I want you to put them here so that that can be a testimony. And it's a he said, a memory, uh, what's it called? A uh gosh. Basically, he wanted them to remember what they had that that Jordan was opened up and that God did it, and he said, I want your children to know about this. And so we're working with the next generation. God has put it on our heart to work with the next generation, and so those testimonies, those 12 rocks, whatever testimonies we have in our life, we're gonna start stacking those testimonies and we're gonna tell people that next generation, this is the rock that God put in my life. This is a testimony that He that He brought me out of. He opened the door that nobody I didn't do it, I couldn't have done it. I knocked on the door several times and they slammed it in my face. But God, but he opened the door, and so we got that rock to put here, we got this rock, and you know what? I want to have so many rocks, I have a uh a whole road. Uh you're gonna build a whole road. We're gonna do a whole road. Let's do that then, you know, because God, I can 12 rocks. I got more than that right now. I got 100% testimonies to tell people of God's goodness and his grace and his favor that he showed upon me, so much so that I want, you know, I want the next generation to know about it, and I want to tell everybody that is in the sound of it that can hear my voice, and now we're doing it on a podcast, so yeah, all over the place, right? So we need to go all over the the you know world through through our podcast to tell people about God's goodness because he's everywhere. He that started a good work, he will be faithful to complete it, amen. And so if you begin your if you begin the work, God will finish it for you, right? He's gonna he's gonna finish it. He's not a man that he should lie, and he's gonna bring it, bring it to pass if you don't get weary and well do it. Though it may tarry, it will come. Um and he will he will make that dream that you have, he'll make it come. Don't compare yourself to don't look, yeah. Don't look at the the left, the right, the side, none of that. You look, you keep your eyes focused on the prize, which is God, and he will bless you and continue to show up and show out where you can't, because he's the only one you need. You don't need nobody else but him. So when you when you're sad, when you're upset, when you're disappointed, and if you're thankful through the process, because sometimes you can get discouraged, but you think on something good. Yeah, that's what joy is. Even though something happens that's not good, you think about what's good about it. Oh, my uh tire blew out. I was talking to someone the other day. Wait a minute. No, go ahead. Go ahead, yes. Go ahead. I thought we finished it just in case their tire blew out, right? Their tire blew out. They need to know that the tire blew out, but not all four of them blew out. Maybe, maybe your tire blew out and saved you from a wreck that that was up ahead. God, God stopped it, right? God stopped you and said, Hey, not not not today. Today's not today, and you blew the tire blew out. Be thankful, you be grateful. Let the joy be is in you, it's there, but you gotta look at it that way. You can't look at it, God, another time, and I don't have the money. They gotta change your mindset. God just saved your life, your whole life. Be thankful. Okay, go ahead, Nicole. Well, I had several stories, but one that also just came up, another one as you mentioned. Um, I was thinking of Abigail's school. Her tuition just came out of the checking account. It just came out, and you know, I try not to think about it, but I'd have I happened to. You gotta think about them thousands of dollars though. And I did. And you know what? I almost got distracted for a minute because I thought, golly, that money done came out of my account. And um I I wasn't actually anticipating it coming out this month. I, you know, I either way, it came out, I saw it, I said, I started to get a little distracted and discouraged, but I said, you know what? I am not because I am thankful that God gave me the funds to pay for that. So there was a time when that was not easy. And so I'm thankful that I have the ability and I have the funds to pay for it, and we're moving on, going to go eat hot dogs tonight. Going to eat hot dogs. Okay, that's right. Amen. Yeah, because I could have been very distracted and discouraged that you messed up your whole day. I messed up my whole day, but I'm excited that God gave me the opportunity and He allowed me to have the money to pay for it, and we're moving on. Yeah, we're moving on, baby girl. No problem. Talking about and I we so we want to encourage you, you have joy, don't let nobody take that from you because there's a lot of joy thieves out there right now trying to take your joy, but not today. You find the good, we find the good in everything. There's good in everything. If you breathe in, you still have an hour. There's good right there. Amen.
