We’re back with more summer glow-up tips! This episode we are covering everything from the inside to the outside in our quest to feel and look our best in the new season! Grab a cup of coffee (or iced tea) and find a seat in the sun for this fun chat!
Hi Heather. Hi Dina. Welcome back. We're back. Part two. We're back for part two of Summer Glow Up Tips. It's a continuation. If you did not catch last week, for sure. Catch that one first because there was lots of good stuff in there.
SPEAKER_01We are trying our best. We're by no means experts.
SPEAKER_00We are not experts. But two girls trying to do all the things. Trying to glow up for the new season. Talking about it because everybody else is too.
SPEAKER_01Yes. So we've found some um really good tips that we've both been using and doing, and we're gonna share them with you a part two.
SPEAKER_00Or there are things we've seen that we want to try or we're currently trying. We will let you know. There's tons of good tips out there for sure. Yeah. All right, part two, summer glow up. And it does actually feel like last week we were in like hoodies and sweatshirts, I think. Right. But I feel like you can tell we're definitely in Michigan now. It is in the summer. It is feeling like summer in Michigan. Wait, when is it actually summer? I feel like it's like June 20th, 21st. It's right around my anniversary. Okay. It's like the first day of summer. Yeah. But I mean we're mid-70s, 80s, pretty reliably. We've been in pools. You're clearly rocking some sun.
SPEAKER_01Which we talked about the last episode or whatever. Somebody else said, like, oh, you've been laying out. Truly, no. I just you just if you're outside, you get tan, yeah. Planting my flowers, going for a walk. Like, I mean, you see all the different lines because I'm all I'm in shirts.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we were at a soccer game yesterday, and I just took for granted I'm so used to the weather being like ick or whatever. It was blazing hot in the sun for like two hours, and I didn't even have sunscreen for like the family, and everybody was like, Did you bring sunscreen? And I like just sat with an umbrella. Okay, now it was bad planning on my part. Usually we would have sunscreen for something like that.
SPEAKER_01Well, I would like to detour here for a second. And this is technically like part of you know, glowing up. It's summer. I mean, I feel like you should wear sunscreen, especially on your face all year round. But what is your thought about there's a lot of um interesting discussion and research around some of the sunscreens that we're using are actually causing the skin cancer because you're putting on so many chemicals, especially in the sprays, and if they don't have the right, I think it's like zinc oxide or something that you're so truly supposed to use, that you're actually doing your body more harm. And there's a lot of people that are like, I don't wear sunscreen.
SPEAKER_00So I feel like I don't obviously no professional, no, I've not done any scientific research, but I do feel like everything we're doing with all the chemicals is can't be great because it's not just skin cancer. I mean, there's so many new things that are like that causes cancer. Forever chemicals are everywhere in your pants and your lotion, everything. And then I also feel like so, the more natural the product, I feel like unless you're gonna be so judicious in your sun exposure that you're like a little bit here and a little bit there, and my skin is used to this, and how we were created to like absorb the sun. I feel like you know, if you've ever had a bad sunburn, how damaging that is to your skin. So I don't know if a happy medium is like use the most natural sunscreen and then you know, again be careful with your time in the sun, but like to not wear anything, I think would freak me out. It would freak me out too. I would have to limit my time out to how do you have like a pool day with no sunscreen? Because then you're or the beach. It's like saving us from I know having to go in after 45 minutes. So I don't I mean, of course, pick one that is the l like least yeah, I don't know, chemical filled.
SPEAKER_01And I was out there for getting that right all the time. I forgot to put sunscreen on my leg, the area that I had like cut out last year. Like uh some dermatology concerns and I forgot, and I felt like it like was changing color, and I like felt it, and so like just even seeing that, I'm like, that can't be great. Like that needs to be covered with something. I can I can actually link it, I'll send it to you too. I found a really good because we both have pools, so I feel like the spray for us is the most convenient way for the kids and stuff, especially make sure that you're actually continuously applying it. It's by Blue Lizard. Um, and if I found it on Amazon now, obviously it's more expensive, of course. Everything else that's good, one of the more natural brands, but it's supposed to be one of the better, like quality everything for a spray uh sunscreen, and it has like the zinc oxide on it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I do feel like we've had some blue lizard, but I think it was like face, it was like a really small tube. Yeah, and I was like, Oh yeah, it's better. You're putting it on your face, but like I don't have a good quality spray or positive it's blue lizard. I do they do feel like they have maybe some of the better ones. Yeah, I hesitate to say like good or natural because like I feel like we're always being tricked. I know. But this one looked pretty good. More, more better, yeah, more safer. I can share it. All right. Well, actually, can I just jump off of the minimal sun exposure, but sun exposure being important? Yes. So I feel like we both do a lot of like walking and stuff that's like uh getting your steps in, making sure you're getting a lot of like walking. I feel like um I normally do treadmill in the basement, like year-round in Michigan walking is tricky if you want to be outside, but I feel like this time of year I cannot go in my basement. It makes me so bitter. So it's outside anytime possible. Even the other day, I feel like this is changing too. But me and Chris went out, it was like raining in our faces. Like we just it was still like a nice day. Put a hood on it. It was a light rain and we weren't getting like pelted. There was no lightning and thunder, but I was like, what would stop us from just getting a little drizzle on us just to be outside and like the fresh air? So I feel like this time of year, especially in Michigan, I feel like jealous of people who get this year round. I'm like always like, no wonder their quality of life is better in like South Carolina or something. But this time of year, I try to make all of my walking like steps. I try to do it outside, even if it's like 20-minute, like a quick after dinner walk or a long morning walk after my kids go to school. I love being outside. Same before it gets brutally hot too.
SPEAKER_01And when I'm out there, because it is so much better, I'm always thinking to myself, like, yeah, I can do I can make it away. I can make a way to do this year-round. And you think that you forget, and you're good until like November and then December. Like sometimes you're alright. It's like hurting your face and January, February, February, and then some of March, you're like, forget it!
SPEAKER_00Forget it. We need like some kind of can somebody please build uh you know, like the senior citizen centers or the like uh township center always has like a track. Yeah, somebody please make like a terrarium one, right? Or like an artificial sun one, please. So that we don't have to be in our basement. Somerset skywalk. Yeah, it's like a skywalk, but like a loop you can do. I don't know, just plant some fake tr like put some fake trees in there. Just make us feel like pump fresh air in.
SPEAKER_01And maybe it's age because I don't feel like I ever used to be like this. But just the other day when I was out, I came back to Ryan uh home to Ryan and I was like, I just feel like happy and like the trees were green, the sun and the smells, and like the fresh air.
SPEAKER_00And I hate being in my house all the time when the weather's bad. So you gotta kind of maximize at this time of year. Get out there, get your steps outside and stuff. So getting your steps in for sure, summer glow up. Do you wear a weighted vest when you walk?
SPEAKER_01I was gonna say, I'll add to yours by saying weighted vest. Um, and they say to do about 10% of your body weight. And I would say stick to that because when I like lost some weight, I actually had to go down in the weighted vest. Because it felt too well, it was like putting the weight back on me, and then I was dealing with like plantar fasciitis again. Geez, how did I live like that? Right.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, but I like notice that, like, even like in my back and everything. I was gonna say it does affect you. All that weight is concentrated around your like trunk, for lack of a better word. So it does make your like shoulders, your back kind of like achy or whatever.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but that helps tremendously. And they say that that like it just amps up your walk, it's good for muscle tone, for this is the time that you're when I want to use it the least, though, because it makes me hotter too.
SPEAKER_00I'm like strapping on like some whatever that material is vinyl, it doesn't breathe.
SPEAKER_01Such a millennial, like if I walk by another person like around my age and we're like doing all the things, huh?
SPEAKER_00Like I feel like when the weighted vest came on scene, which I feel like is about a year or two ago, yeah. Everybody everywhere was like weighted vest, weighted vest, right? It became like a whole thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but it's I I've been really liking it. I don't I don't do it every single time, but it does amp things up.
SPEAKER_00It does seem like a small thing too. Like they're not that expensive. I don't have a super high quality one, but it does feel like a small thing that you can do to just like challenge yourself a little bit more. It's accessible, it's not like put a home gym in your basement, it's like a weighted vest, right? Like maybe a little 10% better.
SPEAKER_01Maybe on a day that's not like you know ultra hot, but yeah. So for sure, get your steps in, weighted vest. That's a good one. What else you got? I have um skincare, which I feel like we talk about. Wait, no.
SPEAKER_00You wanted to talk about skincare.
SPEAKER_01Can I talk about skincare for you?
SPEAKER_00A coffee break because I'm like noxema from when I was 13, someone in my face.
SPEAKER_01Which actually makes me laugh because like I don't know, I I talk about it a lot because I'm very passionate about it. But I in no way, like, I mean, I'm passionate about it now in my 40s. If my mom ever anytime she hears me talking about it, she's like, Oh yeah, now you care about it. She's always been telling me the importance of it. But when I tell you I am the girl who would I can't even count the amount of times I go to sleep in my makeup. Like I break all the rules. Yeah. So I guess learn from us. Getting a balance. Yeah, have balance.
SPEAKER_00Also, some things are ideal, and then some things you're like, okay, but if you don't get to it all the time, at least you still have the process or the products or whatever you ideally would be using.
SPEAKER_01But just see just being consistent with that, I have seen a difference. So I'm passionate about it. But especially in the summertime, the biggest thing is moisture, flooding your skin. I know we talked about, you know, like all the toners and everything that I do, but the toners in the glass spray bottles, or any kind of spray bottle, or any kind of toner that comes already in the spray bottle, which I think we've talked about. Yeah, keeping those everywhere and just constantly rehydrating and misting your hair. You can make yourself a little mess. It feels like a nice treat. You can keep them in the fridge, it's great for the summer, but moisturizing your skin and letting it like, you know, it'll help some of the little fine.
SPEAKER_00This is reminding me too, because you did say, like we have talked about, like when you're flooding, or some of the products that you use, and some of them don't come in the bottle. So make sure that you know, you guys, that we will link all of this stuff too. I feel like usually in the episodes, we're not necessarily talking about products, but this one definitely part one and part two of our summer glow-ups, we'll have links to all those, like toners, spray bottles, even if you need them, or anything that we've mentioned in the last glow-up series. Well, make sure you can find them.
SPEAKER_01Because not only are they, you know, like a nice little treat and they're good for your skin, but they're convenient for especially if you're busy, busy mom, on the go, like to have them everywhere and just be you don't have time sometimes to go in and do a seven-step skincare routine.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna say, when I do toner, because I did not follow your advice yet and get some bottles, I do a couple, maybe a couple toners, and they're it's just cotton pads, it's toner. I gotta have all that stuff in my bathroom, or I would be if I was like right, not in the perfect circumstances, nothing's getting done.
SPEAKER_01So and it just makes it easy. I mean, I'll layer them in my car, spray them while I'm driving, like pat my face, like it just it it helps.
SPEAKER_00So wait, but that I have a question. Yes are you always like barefaced or are you putting this over product?
SPEAKER_01I am barefaced um all week long.
SPEAKER_00I'm all I only wear makeup. Immediately, I'm like, when would I be in my car spraying my face with toner? Never because I always have a layer of makeup on. Oh, yeah. I'm always I'm never barefaced. I just don't cur. Beautiful. There's a lot of people that see me that I'm pro like if you're on your way like back and forth like running errands or something, maybe I would be barefaced. But if I'm gonna see more than just the Kroger to deliver my groceries guy, I don't usually have a bare face.
SPEAKER_01No, I'm barefaced. Or if I am, if I do it, I don't wear foundation. So even when I do put makeup on, it's a tinted sunscreen is what I wear for foundation. So even that, I don't feel like I'm misting over anything horrible. No, you're not misting over like some thick layer of like foundation or whatever. I'm essentially misting over like a sunscreen, but no, I'm typically barefaced most of the week.
SPEAKER_00When you were saying that I was just looking up, remember I told you that I ordered some um like a body mist with a little bit of uh sparkle to it. What is it called? Like, they also do a face one, yes. So, but I feel like it is a SPF, yeah, and it has a little bit of like sparkle in it, it's supposed to be like a highlighting or glow up or whatever, but I also feel like it is made, it's a setting mist, it's made to go over your product. So, like for me, that was a like an option. I was like, Oh, I'm not ruining my what I did, I'm setting it, exactly, and it's got a thin layer of like SPF or whatever. So I'll look that one up and maybe link it. But that has been cool because I'm like still doing a little bit of a mist and a refresh, and a little, maybe it's got a little sparkle or something. But I know it's Kopari, but I'll link it specifically in our our site where you can find all our stuff.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's a fun one. And on that same note, any kind of like body glitter, which it feels so like 90s, like I'm like you're like a robot.
SPEAKER_00But we're not putting on like thick body glitter anymore. It's just a tiny little bit of a especially here. Sparkle is wrong, but glistening. Yeah, it looks like naturally it just looks makes you look glowy. Yeah, for summer, why not?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I think we might we might have talked about that in the last um episode too. But just to reiterate, that is all that's a really pretty thing to do. And there's a lot of good products.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And they're out there in every price range. I mean, I will say be careful because some of them, like there's one by Patrick Ta, there's one by uh Palmer's, which is you know on the lower end of things, there's one by Sol de Janeiro, there's one by Loccitan, there's a million different ones, but really read into them because any of the oils or whatever, like some of them absorb in really quickly, and some of them you might get like transfer on your like you know, tops or whatever.
SPEAKER_00So read into that and look at the reviews, but those are a super fun yeah, especially for somebody uh of an older age, like us, who's maybe not rocking body glitter anymore, right? I feel like I had legit sparkle spray.
SPEAKER_01Well, did we used to put it on like the edge of our eyes? Like we had like glitter liner, glitter maybe sparkle spray on our own.
SPEAKER_00I remember like sparkle spray. It was like body spray. It was just scented. I don't even think it was oil or moisturizing. Yeah, it was like Bath and Body Works with sparkles in it. Yeah. Somebody probably just dumped glitter in a glass from the past. It is fun though. That is fun. Okay, well, this is our little, we're rehashing it in a um a little bit more subtle way. Yeah. Reliving the good old days.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I would definitely not say that when you put it on, the ones I have anyway, they're not like heavy, sparkly. It is a very subtle, like you just look like you're glowing from within.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I would suggest that. All right, that's a good one. Uh what else do you have? I have um brows. I feel like this is the time of year where if you are gonna be, you know, a little bit lighter on your makeup, bare faced, yeah, fresh faced. If you're out by the pool, like beach, whatever, your brows are super important. And I know you've talked about doing um like at home. Yeah, I tint my own. You tint them. I have a magician, uh, my favorite, Nicoletta. She owns um the company's Desher Beauty. I think I'm pronouncing that right. I can tag her, but I'm horrible with my eyebrows. Like, I don't local. She's a local. She is local. She touched my eyebrows. I don't touch my brows, she does them because I thought it's great. Well, thank you. That is all to her because I will horribly mess them up. But however you want to do that, whether you have the eye for your own brows or you don't, like me, there are plenty of tools out there, and I feel like they truly frame your face, and especially in the summer, that's a you're more barefaced than ever.
SPEAKER_00Even if like you can't control it because you're at the beach or not, can't control it, but I'm saying you're purposely gonna go all day with like no makeup, the beach, the pool, whatever. You gotta look like something's happening on your face. Yes, and I think it's super. Speaking from like the most blonde browned person, which of course I like tint mine and then pencil them in a little bit, but I'm saying, like, when I look in the mirror, if I like am at the pool all day and I haven't tinted them or whatever, like they just don't look like they exist. Right. And they are important, they're there for a reason. Super important. I mean, clearly they protect your eyes, but I'm saying aesthetically they're there for a reason. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And speaking from girls who grew up in the 90s were like in early 2000s, I overplucked. So much damage. Oh, so much damage. She has actually helped me grow them back significantly. Okay.
SPEAKER_00So that's like really helped me. Like I'm saying, did she give you any product recommendations, or is it just like don't touch them?
SPEAKER_01She's given me product that has been the biggest thing, is me not because I was plucking in the wrong you know, areas. Like I said, I don't have the eye. So if you don't have the eye, like it is worth going to a professional. And she would she really has helped me grow back in.
SPEAKER_00Even with one of those things, though, too, that is so trendy. Yeah. Like the super thin brows, and then I feel like they were back for a minute, and I was like, no, no, no, no, what are we doing? But then very like bushy brows had their moment. I don't even actually know where we are right now. I feel like mine just have to like look right on my face. Yeah. But I feel like you can really go so heavy one way or the other that it's like, I guess if you leave them bushy, you can come back from that. Oh, yeah. You just get rid of them later. Yeah. But like if we overplucked like we did, it's hard. Your hair is not growing like it used to.
SPEAKER_01And I'm I'm lucky they came back, even what they did. They still, it's not like they're all the way back to what you know, their glory days. So don't overpluck.
SPEAKER_00I know, but then like some other hair, you can pluck it twice a day, it'll come back with force. My arm hair. I'm saying, like, why eyebrows? Why eyelashes? Why are those the hairs that are like, no, I'm done now, forever.
SPEAKER_01I'm gone. You had your chance. Well, and lashes were another one that I'll run right in since you said that is um something, and I haven't done it in a while. Um, but shout out to Skin Studio, another local person. And I know that there's a lot of people that do it as well, but um, an eyelash lift. Have you ever done that?
SPEAKER_00No, I have a lot of friends who love it though.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I really, really love it. It's just a lift, literally a lift.
SPEAKER_00I get a lift in tint. I was gonna say I would have to tint again, really pale. All my hair is also pretty pale, but I do feel like I was just talking to somebody now, I can't remember who did a lift and tint. And they're like, no mascara. Like, no, never again. And I was like, Yes. That to me is like mind-blowing. But I feel like you have to have pretty thick dark lashes to rock.
SPEAKER_01And the what is kind of crazy about it is when you have it done, putting mascara over it almost like it's like too much. It's too much. It like ruins it when you first yeah, when you first get the lift, spider eyes for a little while, and then towards the end, I'll like put a little bit of mascara, but it's like so weird.
SPEAKER_00How long do you feel like the lift tint lasts?
SPEAKER_01I feel like it's different. Okay. I mean, like I said, there's a lot of people that do it. My the personal one that I have been to several times, again, Skin Studio, sh hers for me, lasts at least eight weeks.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay, that's longer than I thought.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I mean, you know, towards the end, I mean, I think I feel like there have been times where it's even lasted like 10 weeks. But you don't depend too.
SPEAKER_00Like summer is immediately gonna be different. Like you're sweating more, you're in the pool, you're in water. That does make a difference. I feel like all that has to affect it, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. But I really like that. I've done it before, like vacations or whatever. And you do have time to do it. Yeah, you feel cute. Like you don't just get out of bed and you have lashes, right? You're like, yeah, it's not that big of a deal. Just put mascara on. Like, it's a huge deal. For someone like me who I don't wear makeup throughout the week.
SPEAKER_00If there was anything, you know, like people do like permanent makeup. If there's anything I could do, it would be my lashes permanently. Like just make them thick and dark. It is such a game changer. Same. Especially when you're very pale and you have like light. Mine are decently long, but they're very pale. Yeah. So like it's oh I'm always layering stuff on because I look like I have eyes.
SPEAKER_01And these serums that are out, they are tremendously, they're tremendous products.
SPEAKER_00And both my like lash glowing series and brow.
SPEAKER_01They make a brow serum and a lash serum. And both like both both my uh Nicoletta that does my brow and Parmender that does the lashes, they both recommend it, even though they're in that business. The same one. Um they both have recommended.
SPEAKER_00Do you have any names to throw out at us?
SPEAKER_01Grande lash is a good one. But I use new lash and new brow a lot because they don't have a lot of, they're a little bit more natural, they don't have irritants.
SPEAKER_00Grande lash. Yeah. Like one tube worth. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. And they're like, and you gotta keep at it. So I was like, I'll do it. I think it was actually a Costco or somewhere. Yeah. Like it was like a discounted somewhere. Or maybe it was on Amazon with like a deal. Whatever. Anyway, I was like, I'll give it one tube worth. Yeah. And I was like, I don't know.
SPEAKER_01If you're consistent every day with that's the problem, is this one more thing to be consistent with? But new lash, it's like I think it's N-E-U. Um, and they make new lash and new brow. It's in like a clear tube with like a blue label. I had a lot of. Yeah. Well, daily. If you're consistent.
SPEAKER_00If you're consistent, like yeah.
SPEAKER_01Ideally, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay. No, I was just curious.
SPEAKER_01And there are some people that say, like, uh, it's the same stuff. Like the lash and the brow don't put it on the same. I do like the applicators different so that it's super thin for the lash, and then for the brow, it's like a little sponge thing.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. That's like a yeah, like a little spooly sponge. Yeah, because I feel like this area is so hard to get in without getting it in your eyeball. I know. So that I will say that stuff kind of freaks. Me out too. Remember there were some other like lash growing products, and they like people had all kinds of issues with their with their eyes, and like permanent stuff or scary. I'm always hesitant. Anything that's going by my eyeball. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, that's actually how they came out with.
SPEAKER_00I'll put like I'll put like weed fertilizer on them. I don't care.
SPEAKER_01But like my eyelashes, I feel like it's scary, but that's how they came out with it. Like Rodanin Fields, which I think was one of the like pioneers in it, if I'm speaking correctly. And it is a very good one. It's you know, very expensive. I think it's one of the more expensive ones or most expensive one. I don't even know if they still make it, actually, now that I'm thinking about it. But that's how they figured it out because it was actually um something for like optical, and people were noticing that their lashes were growing. It was like an accidental find. Yes, if if I'm correct. That's how I remember. If you're like, but it's a good story.
SPEAKER_00It's just like fabulous.
SPEAKER_01Seriously. Cannot see out of my left eye. So that's what I tell myself when I'm putting it on so that I don't think I'm gonna wake up blind or blind. I wish I could wake up blonde sometimes. No, you don't. No, I speaking of anxiety.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's a ton of work. Oh my gosh. Yeah, no, but that's how they found it. So at least I'm this is not on my list, but because we just did the current obsessions too. I'm like shook when I looked at my hair today, and I don't know how this lighting is rocking my hair. But I keep using that purple conditioner, and I cannot believe how much gold it pulls out. And I actually am gonna hit it on my light here, gashier, which is what I like for my skin tone and whatever. But my kids have been swimming a lot lately, and you know, immediately we have salt, not chlorine, but immediately their hair starts to look like gold and then it starts getting to a green zone. I actually think I'm gonna use it on them to pull some of that like yellowy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, why not?
SPEAKER_00I mean, they don't care, but I and I shouldn't care, but I'm like, I'm noticing their hair color looks different, and I think it's the pool, yeah, chemical, whatever. So I feel like if you didn't find that link and you're a blonde, it's worth trying. Isn't that so crazy? The things that we don't have to think about. Well, and I just feel like my whole life I knew that you're supposed to try like either a purple shampoo or something, but I was like, it's so drying. I could never find anything that worked that felt like it wasn't doing more damage, but the conditioner is like a genius. Yeah, it's conditioner, so it's okay. You're leaving it on, it's supposedly helping your hair, not like stripping it. Yeah, and I'm like surprised by how well it's working, especially in the summer. It gets like gold.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, all right. So that wasn't on the list. Things you don't have to think about is blondes.
SPEAKER_00If you need hair help this summer, you need to glow up that really gold brassy blonde. Find our links.
SPEAKER_01And if you're worth trying to a brunette with highlights, uh blue shampoo or blue conditioner.
SPEAKER_00No, I never had to do that. Yeah, who knew? There's something for everybody. Who knew? All right, I have a little this one's. I feel like we already talked about the summer and the sun. But this one is a little bit different. I've been making an effort just early in the morning when I get up. No, I'm still getting kids off to school. Summer, summer will be very different. But um, just some of my little routines I'm trying to just do outside, like get some fresh air and sun. So, like, I'll just go drink my coffee after the kids leave. Me and Chris will sit outside, even if it's just 15 minutes, like fresh air, sun on my face. But I was thinking like I go through a whole water my water water my flowers routine stuff. I try to do that early in the morning so that I'm like yeah, out there feeling better about the day, just right from the get. Yeah. If weather permitting, you can get out there and get some sun, do it in the morning. It's super important before the chaos starts. I mean, already we've been in the chaos because we're still doing school, but yeah, I feel so much better when I just get outside and get some fresh air and sun on my face. Are you grounding as well? Are you going to do it? No, I do barefound. I do love being barefoot. I'm barefoot all the time. But I have a dog and I'm always worried about grounding because I don't know what zones are. Yeah. But I'll like walk around my pool deck and like scope out the flowers and pull a few like uh deadheads, some you know, like I just want to be outside. It does make you feel so much better.
SPEAKER_01It does being outside, not only that, but creating those little like pockets of joy throughout the day, like forcing yourself to go out there, you feel better.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you absolutely do, especially when you do live in a state like Michigan where you you cannot take for granted that we have such a short window of like beautiful outdoor time. Yeah. So I don't know. As I get older, that's more and more important to me. Yes. I feel like in when my younger years, I would just be like staying in the air conditioning, it's great in here. Now I'm like, get out in the sun. Yeah. No, that's feels good. Super important. All right. What else do you have for our summer glow-up series?
SPEAKER_01I have, well, I guess since we're talking about mornings, um, again, broken record here, but eye patches, but especially for summer, I keep them in my fridge all year round, but keeping eye patches in your fridge and using those every day, I it helps tremendously. I will always, always, always say that. And it again, what a nice little treat that it feels like. But especially for the summer and refreshing under your eyes. Yes, you will see a difference. So while you're out in the sun and you're beating your skin up with you know everything that you're doing, nice little treat. Be good to your skin too. Be good to care of it and yourself.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Because if you're gonna sit with eye patches on, I've noticed and others. Be good to others. I mean, you're around. I have noticed though, it forces you to just pause. You cannot like actively clean with eye patches on. You know what I mean? I don't know what you do. Oh gosh, mine are like falling off. No, I feel like it gives me like time to drink my coffee and sit. I leave the house and forget that they're on. Oh gosh, yours must be stickier than mine. I feel like when I get them on, I have to just be like cool for a while. Oh no. And if I try to do too much, like they'll start to like slide off. So I'm like, good, this is intentional time where I have to just like sometimes I'll put my feet up on my like vibration plate, yeah, get a little like foot massage going on, or drink my coffee. I don't go outside with them on though. It's a little bit too much. Oh, really? Well, we've really close neighborhood where a lot of people can like look into your backyard at any given moment. I don't really want to be that girl with eye patches in the morning. We're the clear ones. I sit outside in my pajamas and drink coffee. Yeah. But I feel like, oh yeah, I guess mine are like brightly colored. Yeah. Or gold. Some of them are gold.
SPEAKER_01No, I don't I I think unless they stick good.
SPEAKER_00All right, for the advice go clean your toilet and your eye patches. What a miserable waste. No. No, dude, I can tell you you have to sit still and just absorb the cool, refreshing eye patches. It's like cucumbers at the spot. Right. You're not supposed to clean a toilet with Amazon. I don't clean a toilet, but like I can't do it.
SPEAKER_01I have left the house several times where like I've had people be like, you know what you got? And I'm like, oh shoot, I forgot about that. You know what I also have been doing though? Another, I guess, you know, tip uh along with skincare is eye cream. Hugely important. I can't do it at night. I wake up with a red eye, it gets into my eyes. Okay. So I do a lot of like sticks and um eye creams in the morning and I keep them in the fridge. Same thing so that they're refreshing. And I'll put that on underneath my eye patches. So I'm like doing like double and then when you take them off, push it all. And I do stay still because I put them on and I drink my coffee. Yeah, I keep them on until they're like embedded into my skin. I'm like, oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Might be just the difference in what I have compared to yours. But I felt like when I first started using them, I was like, oh, I can't like just move around like normal. I need to just kind of like sit and let them stay where they're supposed to be. Yeah. So I don't know, it was a good excuse. Uh drink your coffee and chill. I support it. Outside, maybe if you don't mind your neighbor seeing. Um, okay, but actually, that reminded me of another one, and this is like a hard rate turn, and we can go back to some of the more normal ones. But for all the external glow up stuff we're talking about, also internally glowing up by just like it should be now, depending on your stage of life. Summer can be even more chaotic for some people. I'm gonna take the route where it's like no matter what it is for you, you got little kids in their home all the time now. Just like make sure you're taking time to like read a good book that you've been wanting to read, or take the walks, or do all the things because like internally glow up as well. Like, take some time, make some space, say no to some things because summer for us is easier in the way that we don't have the school schedule, but it gets very busy very fast, and I feel like I can almost get resentful that it's like it's all going by too fast, and we have too many plans and all that stuff, especially because I'm a teacher and this is my time off too. So I have like an intentional like calm down, pause, decide what you want to do. Yeah, is that something I want to do with my free Wednesday this summer or not?
SPEAKER_01And just give yourself a little bit of a yeah grace period, and to help you remember uh what is internal often shows externally too. So if you are stressed or exhausted, yeah, you see that on your face, you know.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, find some time to uh heal internally, yeah, and just just slow try to slow things down to the abil like to the level you're capable or the ability. I mean, I know when people have little kids and they're not in school, that's like worse. They lost all their free time, easier said than done. So yeah, whatever extent that applies to you, I feel like so much external. Also, let's just say, like, be good to yourself. Yes, it is a season of like hopefully slower, more enjoyment, yeah, less crazy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01All right, so we're gonna slip that in. Well, no, along that same thought, the other one that I had that everyone is talking about, which is just so funny because I don't feel like we ever talked about this, like, you know, as much back in the day, but sleep. Yeah, sleep is so important, and same thing. What you are doing internally, you're gonna see you know, externally, and I feel like it's another way we don't take care of ourselves, though, don't you think?
SPEAKER_00No, uh and I was gonna say, like, as women, but I honestly think that this applies to everybody, everybody across the board. And then I think because we minimize the important, it affects our kids. Yeah, because you're not hard on them about their sleep schedule. I'm speaking for myself, but like, yes.
SPEAKER_01Good quality sleep. It's when your body restores itself, you need to let everything rest, your muscles. Whatever you think you're doing, that you're doing good. If you're not sleeping, you're not you're missing a really doing some of the good that you did because your body is not really having that time to recover.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So do you do anything to is it getting harder for you to sleep well as you get older? Because I feel like that is a very current theme I'm seeing amongst like women our age. Yeah, not yet. Okay, that's great. I mean, you know, there are nights of the city. I don't think mine's awful either. Yeah, uh, I definitely feel like it's different than other stages of my life, but I don't think I'm like struggling with my sleep or anything.
SPEAKER_01Not yet. But a good tool that everyone, you know, talks about is magnesium. Taking magnesium to help restful sleep, and there's so many different forms of it. There's even like sprays, yes, the powders. I've tried the powder.
SPEAKER_00I have a powdered drink, it's like lemon flavor.
SPEAKER_01I was just gonna say, I done I saw a lot about a powdered one that I did with um cherry juice because dark cherry juice is supposed to be very good for that. So, with like a magnesium powder in it, there's so many different options.
SPEAKER_00So stupid though, because I was taking mine in the morning with all my vitamins. And I was like, what are you doing? Also, magnesium is supposed to help you with other things, yeah. So that was my main focus. But I did start switching to like drinking that in the evening because I'm like, if this is supposed to help with my sleep, why am I taking it in the morning? Yeah, it's the only magnesium too, the powder drink that doesn't upset my stomach that's not.
SPEAKER_01That's what I was gonna say. I mean, you could take that at night and it's fine, but if you are taking the magnesium supplement, like in the um capsules or whatever, I have to take that at lunch.
SPEAKER_00Like a full meal.
SPEAKER_01If I take it too late, I will be able to get it.
SPEAKER_00See, now this stuff I I don't know why. I wonder why. I can drink it and nothing. Like empty stomach, drink my coffee. I'd switch to at night just because it made more sense, but I could take it in the morning with anything, without anything in my stomach yet, and it was totally fine. Yeah, I don't know why. It's just more gentle, maybe. I don't know, but sleep's important, very important. And I think very under we're just everybody's so busy. And it's like, you know, you get your free time at night when the kids are quiet or whatever. I get it. But like I do feel like my sleep is not that bad yet, but I do feel like I'm at a stage in my life where I need more than I ever have. And I'm kind of unapologetic about it. Yeah, you have to be. I can't function. I just get I get like sick faster, and yeah, my immune system definitely is immediately like, hey, like we're gonna go to we go to church camp every summer. And you know, you're up, staying up late, waking up early in the morning. Every single time when I go home, I get like a cold for a week. And I know it's not like the germs, it's not the people. It is the lack of sleep. My body immediately is like red flag. It's like something I've learned, right? I gotta take care of. And you like don't want to be the lame one who's like, all right, I guess I'll go to go to bed now, but like or any like vacation, or anytime you're just like, I have nothing to wake up for. Like, you know, you just overdo it, but I immediately get like signals from my body. Like, oh, you want a summer cold? Here we go. It's so important, so important. Yeah, and if you haven't tried something like magnesium, these things are natural, gentle, like definitely not recommending like sleeping pills to anybody. There's so many like things to try if you definitely feel like your sleep is disrupted. Oh, yeah, or garbage.
SPEAKER_01What do we used to joke about? Calms forte. Calms forte.
SPEAKER_00I feel like I don't know if that was for sleeping or just like calming. Calming you down. Yeah, homeopathic. Right? But I do feel like, you know, there's people with like legitimate sleep trouble. And then when they talk about using some of those like sleep assistants, count sheep. That sounds scarier than they're like, and then I'd have these dreams, but they were like lucid dreams, and I'm like, oh, that sounds God bless you. Lucid dreams, it's one of my favorite songs. Lucid dreams. No, I was just talking about like weird. Uh, what is like um I can't think of the name of the post-malone? No, maybe not. I don't know. I don't like post Malone. Say that for another time. Nope. I think he's awful. I'm so sorry. I know like his music? I know how many people I'm offending right now. I'm not sure. Don't talk about post Malone like that. Maybe I liked him better before he like transitioned to country or whatever he's doing right now. Right? Sorry, that was a detour. Don't come for me on postmalone. I'm thinking of Morgan Wallon. No, I know who they are individually, and I hold about the same minority.
SPEAKER_01Did I speak out of term? Lucid dreams. Is that Post Malone? It's such a good song. Nope, sorry, it's by Juice World. Okay. I have these little. I don't know it either way. I'm so sorry. Me and my kids could have went off saying all the words. Okay.
unknownAll right.
SPEAKER_01Not saying I'm cool, just like.
SPEAKER_00You didn't even need to bring Post Malone into this podcast. Really like now. I've isolated 50% of our audience because you don't like Juice World.
SPEAKER_01Postmalone. I'm I have a feeling most of our audience is gonna be out really. I don't know. He's got his crowd. Well, one of us likes them.
SPEAKER_00All right.
SPEAKER_01That's me. What else do you have? I have one more. Great. Um, and it is something we've already talked about. But so last episode, I know we talked about like African nut sponsors, really like exfoliating your body, um, staying moisturized everywhere, face, you know, body, everything. But we're using retinols on our skin for skincare and for fine lines and wrinkles, but retinol for your body is okay tremendous for tightening your skin, just the overall glow appearance. And I found a really good one that was suggested. I've been using it for a couple weeks. Now I can link that. Okay. But retinol on your body. Cream, lotion.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and then maybe applying it.
SPEAKER_01It's thick, it comes in like a pump. You put it on, and it takes a minute. Your skin does like absorb it. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00But that is supposed to be very good for your you do, you have to take care of your body because well, I feel like anything you're doing to your face, obviously, extension, it would be good for your whole body. Sometimes that feels like overwhelming, right? Like well, they say like drag your skincare down to your neck. Yeah, I feel like this zone for sure. You're like, I don't want wrinkles, I don't want sagginess, but then like applying that to your whole body is like that seems like a lot of work. It does it, it's all a lot of work.
SPEAKER_01So, I mean, whatever you can be the most consistent with. Yeah. And like we talked about, we both are big, like oil girls, or we'll put it on like in the shower or whatever. But um, this is an important stuff. Is it an everyday thing? Yeah, or is it a couple times a week? Okay, yeah. I've I've been doing it every day, or okay as many days as I'm consistent. Like, like I've said, I'm I do not comment for you on your I am not consistent with every single thing. These are just great tips, and they've been helpful. Helpful for me. Aspirational. Aspirational.
SPEAKER_00Meaning like they're worth doing when you do that. Right. And some of it is like if you're not consistent, you won't see benefits. We all understand that, right? I feel like even if you're doing it three times a week, it's better than zero. It's better than nothing. Right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Listen, we're all busy, we're all for sure, you know, moms or career people, whatever. Everyone is tremendously busy, and so no, hey, no uh no judgment because I'm not consistent with everything, but when I am consistent with it, it doesn't matter. You do notice. Yes.
SPEAKER_00So so then it's like it's good because if you're seeing the effects and you're like, this is worth my time, then you make it more of your routine. Yeah. I feel like that's some of the hard stuff. I get really in the weeds where I'm like, okay, they say that if I do this, I'll see a big difference. And then I do it for a short time and I'm like, did I give it long enough? Right. I don't even know. Was I consistent enough? Or am I spinning my wheels? And they're just like laughing at me because they have my money. Right. So I get really uh, yeah. Sometimes I overthink that stuff. Yeah. But if you're seeing it yourself, that takes away all of that. Like, is this worth my time? Yeah. Very important.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So I think even like just as a wrap-up, like for glowing up in a you know, a natural way. We're not over here telling everyone. No, nobody suggested any botox or but glowing up, I would say the most important ones would be getting good quality sleep, getting your steps and moving your body every day. Hydration, for sure. Yeah, hydration, staying hydrated, total body, hydration. Total body, inside, outside, body fitting. That's a good sum up.
SPEAKER_00You are gonna feel better. For sure. You'll feel better. And again, like it's not that we're so focused on what if you look better, but like naturally, you're gonna feel so much better. Of course, you're gonna like look better too. You're gonna be glowing, you're gonna be happier, you're gonna be well rested, right? Yes.
SPEAKER_01Well, like it's always been preached to us for everything, for kindness, for everything. Like, what's on the why am I do not cry? Uh something. Are we gonna cry again? I might cry.
SPEAKER_00Also, what is happening? Because I feel like you're emotional, and I'm not and not in. That's good. Go for it. Could you join me?
SPEAKER_01I feel like absolutely crazy, no cry about it. Right? Can I just cry for a second, guys? What are you crying about, right now? Skincare. Just like, you know, your beauty on the inside shows on the outside.
SPEAKER_00So you know, and you can be beautiful on the outside. And if that internal stuff is a nightmare, nobody wants to be around you. Very important. So focus on it all. Yes.
SPEAKER_01So that's all I have.
SPEAKER_00I love it. Part two. So just to reiterate, if you have never checked it out, we have a site. It's always linked on like our Instagram. Everywhere we'll throw it in our stories sometimes. Where if we talk about products, they're on there. Yeah. And that way you can say, like, we've all we've gotten like messages like, hey, you that toner you mentioned. So we just figured it makes sense to put it out there, and then that way you can always check there. And feel free to ask us questions too. Yeah. We're not clear about something. Or uh, we're always like, Oh, what's the name of that thing? I'll tell you guys next week. Oh, we I didn't even remember the post. Post Malone song. We're getting better about it. Do not find links to post Malone songs on our site, they will not be there. Sorry. They're really good though. The liquor is toner, yes. Yeah. Okay, yeah. There are so fun. Yeah. Thank you for all your blow-up tips. Thank you. I have some things I'm gonna be for sure implementing, working on.
SPEAKER_01We hey, we're just girls. We're trying all the things.
SPEAKER_00Trying all the things and talking about.
SPEAKER_01It's helpful to share. So thanks for stopping by for part two. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Bye, everyone. See you later.
