SPEAKER_00:

All right, so we have just recorded episode three of our one shot, and um we're gonna do a little behind the scenes, behind the blunders, and and chat about what the players think so far about this crazy mind-bendy campaign that I've been giving them. Um so if if you want, we can recall all the way back to episode one and and review a little bit of that, or we can just dive right into what we recorded today.

SPEAKER_02:

I I want to just talk about everything. Okay. I want to I want to I wanna I want to start theorycrafting. Uh this is Mamir, by the way. I want to start theory. I want to get in there.

SPEAKER_00:

It sounds like Jared, even though it is Mamir. Yeah, it is.

SPEAKER_02:

Very distinct voices, but it is. Um no, I wanna I wanna I wanna get your guys' thoughts because I know that your characters are like somewhat chill right now. They're like a little uncomfortable. Like my mind is racing. Okay, so I have a couple ideas. Uh like body snatching is one of them. Like they got body snatched. Uh another thing is like, but why dogs? And so that's like my main thing is like, why why try and why try where did the dogs go? Yeah, where's the other dogs? Yeah, what and what happened? Are they like eating them or are they like um like why are they going after? Also, um, how did it all kick off? Like, is because it's like they're naturally growing um mushrooms. So maybe they found the mushrooms underground. Um but they're seeing they're like they're not like violent, maybe, but they're uh it's just weird. Like I I I there's a lot of different things. Maybe um like they turned on the heat because they were like, oh, okay, we need more heat, and then the mushrooms climbed up while they were sleeping or something like that, you know. So I want to get your guys' thoughts. What are your guys' thoughts on that?

SPEAKER_03:

Oh, at the moment because so here here's the thing that I've noticed, at least playing through so far with the mushrooms, yeah, they they seek warmth, right? Yeah. So like the one that was trying to get into Gordon's face, basically, right? I think that that is somehow how they like body snatched.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Right. Well, also kind of like when you say body snatched, what do you mean by that?

SPEAKER_02:

I think it's like a full, like uh there's a Star Trek episode where a worm sneaks into one of the uh ears of the like passengers, and then it it like uh like basically controls their minds. Okay, yeah. That's what I'm thinking.

SPEAKER_03:

That's that's what I I I'm leaning towards also just with We couldn't like kill the things, right? They still were moving, even in the cold, right? Yeah. And so for them, like you can split them, they still move, right? Yeah. So like there is this kind of like them just taking over, right? Kind of like what would be like alien, you know, can I think of. Um so there's that. Um or it could even have been like a chef was cooking, right? Started cooking some of the mushrooms. Although it seems like they were more like researching the mushrooms more than anything. But there were some mushrooms, I think, that weren't well that weren't the same. There's some normal like mushrooms within there are these mushrooms that were different.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Uh just for reference, uh, I was referencing Star Trek The Next Generation, uh, Conspiracy is the name of the title. Season uh first season and 25th episode. Um, and I just remember that and I'm like my my alarm bells are like ringing because they all like acted like humans, but they didn't do normal things. Yeah. And so that's kinda uh Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

Alright. I I'm surprised. I mean, I didn't think that the green goo was from a gelatinous cube. Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, so the goo that you saw around the lab was fuchsia.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh, it was not green. You haven't seen green. Oh, the picture was green. Yeah, that's what makes it. No, if it's purple. No, I'm thinking the acid.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, the acid is what um was or the the green goo, like the was in the center, the ice block. Okay.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, that's what there was a greenish ice block in the ice lab.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

And then there was also one of the labs that had a ton of acid and acid burns. And that one was green. And so there was an image of a lab covered in green. But most of the jelly, maybe calling it jelly versus goo.

SPEAKER_01:

It's like fireweed.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, is a fireweed color. And again, for those of you who are not from Alaska, fireweed is a plant that grows here, and people make jelly out of the blossoms. So it has this bright fuchsia pink color. So that's the reference I used for the fuchsia jelly.

SPEAKER_03:

But at the same time, okay, one of one of my things though is with the shoot, what's his name? The guy that was flying at the beginning.

SPEAKER_00:

You found out his name is Agro.

SPEAKER_03:

Agro, yeah. Okay, so aggro. Um how on earth was he flying? Or was he a wizard?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, he seemed to be a wizard. And he seemed to be I mean he cast two, like if I obviously metagame in a little bit, but two lightning bolts is lightning bolts. Third level spell, he can fly, which is another third level spell, um, and he cast it three times. So he must have been a pretty high level wizard in my in my brain. Yeah. Um, mechanical-wise. Um, but um I also think that like what like he was missing an arm. Oh, he must have been low on hand. Or a hand, yeah. Hand on his uh, yeah, no, he must he was at one HP basically because it's like one D6 of falling damage.

SPEAKER_03:

So that's like Aggro actually a good guy? Because Okay, here I'll I'll get to it, yeah. The reason I say is Um So why would his arm be chopped off? Hand, sorry, his hand, if maybe one of the mushrooms attached, right? And so he just cut it off because he knew he couldn't destroy. Oh no. And the dog has a has one of the mushrooms in it, and he's been maybe that's where they got into the dog.

SPEAKER_01:

Did we look at the dog?

SPEAKER_02:

No, we've not done anything. We said Nar should take care of it because I had so much going on. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

Because you were handcuffed.

SPEAKER_02:

NARS back at the NAR. Yeah, because NAR is gonna do a great job on that.

SPEAKER_00:

So you were handcuffed with the dead body. And we didn't have your keys, and so um, and you couldn't carry the giant dead body. And so Gordon helped you carry the body to your office. Yeah, you can't get it. And you got the keys there.

SPEAKER_02:

And then I'm curious. Brad, you're spot. I think you're spot on with that. I think you are because they were so happy to see, or like, to be like, oh, bring him back to us. Maybe they you only can get possessed if you're like um in like an unconscious uh condition. Does that make sense? Because they were maybe like his death, they weren't super broken up by his death. His death. Yeah, they were kind of, but they weren't sure they were like, oh, that's sad, but they were bringing him back though. Yeah. Yeah. Um they don't have much empathy. Yeah. I'm oh I left him in uh but that that could also be I'm the worst security guard ever.

SPEAKER_03:

So that's what I'm wondering, because sometimes, you know, just what looks obvious when you're just standing there of some guy chasing down a dog, right? Seems like, what's wrong with this guy? He's terrible. But he could have been he could have been trying to save us.

SPEAKER_01:

I didn't try to kill him. I didn't think it was gonna kill him.

SPEAKER_02:

I did try to stop multiple times. I did yell at him multiple times. Yeah. But maybe like if you're like if the dog gets to the base, you know. You're just here's hooked.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, you named the dog.

SPEAKER_02:

That's it. And we didn't name the wizard.

SPEAKER_00:

That was really You didn't know the dog's name until later.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, but still, like you it's a dog, it's manipulation of our Yeah, you're manipulating us in your own knowledge versus the U DM. U DM You know we like dogs here. And that's not fair.

SPEAKER_01:

Did you mention uh the dog's name? The the relationship of the dog's name.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, I did. You did.

SPEAKER_01:

Okay, so Wiley's dog's name is Finn.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, so when the dog now we're double manipulating manipulated.

SPEAKER_01:

Is that what my first thought? I was like, ah, she she called it Finn. It's a good one. Like it's a good dog. It's a good dog, yeah. Well, isn't the dog with us?

SPEAKER_03:

When the dog is back at our base.

SPEAKER_00:

When the dog arrived, y it just was there and it was scared. Yeah. And um I think it kind of ran past you guys and he shot at the dog. Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_03:

And so then um Well, it came and jumped behind me.

SPEAKER_00:

And the the kennels was right behind you guys. And so the dog went into the kennels because um got lightning bolted. Mops is lodged the lightning bolt. Yeah, it got hurt by it, but it didn't.

SPEAKER_03:

No, no, it still did. Because I I took some of it, it took some of it. I took some of it. I took a lot of it.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. Um because he rolled a better deck save. Yeah. I think you've I think one of you guys save.

SPEAKER_02:

Yes, I failed.

SPEAKER_00:

Um surprisingly for a rogue, I'm shocked.

SPEAKER_02:

Uh you know, one more level.

SPEAKER_00:

So So he went in and um around the time after you took the body into the storage unit, your office, um, that's when you guys checked the collar. And so the collar said fin and it had the istigha cool.

SPEAKER_01:

Um I think we would have noticed if there was an octopus in the on the dog.

SPEAKER_02:

But the dog would just act like riding the dog. Yeah, yeah. Chemo. Well well, Nard did put it in a cage.

SPEAKER_00:

In the kennel.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, in one of the kills.

SPEAKER_00:

So And you guys took all of your dogs because you have um the harnesses and stuff that you have for your dogs even hook them up.

SPEAKER_02:

Why were they so happy about the dogs?

SPEAKER_01:

No clue. Maybe they're the dogs. The dog became a big thing.

SPEAKER_02:

Maybe we're all dogs.

SPEAKER_01:

Got that dog cast.

SPEAKER_00:

That makes me think of up um when they they put the in in the movie up where they had the dogs can talk.

SPEAKER_02:

The dog. If I wasn't a security guard, we would have stayed. I just want you guys to know. Because I think Jared wouldn't have been like, like, if I was playing like another character, if I was playing my main camp campaign character, I would have I probably would have stayed uh in there. Um but just spent the night?

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Spent the night there because yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

Because you guys are kind of outnumbered.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Well, that's one of my biggest things is like I felt like we were like, I don't know, like there was no aggro, but there was a lot of tension. Does that make sense?

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

It's it's a thing for me where and that's what's funny, is my character Gordon would be very just kind of like, okay, whatever you guys want to do, kind of you know. But me, me as a player, like, or just me, I would have been like, alright, I'm out of here. Like, nope, yeah, nope, nope.

SPEAKER_02:

I'm curious if it is like a situation when they get cold, it like because my going theory is that there's like some kind of brain snatching going on right now. But it's weird because the foot wasn't a normal foot, but that all lined up. So maybe that's like a normal thing. Like that I because I was like, okay, well, that's just weird. But I'm curious if we turned off the heat completely and froze them out. Would the mushrooms get ejected from their brains? But then again, because I don't know why you would turn down the heat. You know what I'm saying? Because they turned it down. Yeah, they had to turn it down.

SPEAKER_03:

Well, who did though? That's the question.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh, it could have been aggro. It could have been aggro and turned it down, locked them in the in the cave.

Oh.

SPEAKER_01:

And then went after uh a stray dog.

SPEAKER_02:

And then we're why did he go after the stray dog? Because it had a well, there were more dogs too. I wish we had Speak with Dead. This is why Speak with Dead is the most broken spell. As a DM myself, Speak with Den always rose. Uh Necro Necronic. Yeah. Yeah. There we go.

SPEAKER_00:

You would go back and speak with Agr's dead body.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, we would and get more information. Yep, I did not. I took And we would have learned so much. Gaseous form. But you couldn't it's a clo it would have cleric. Yeah. You took Gase's form instead? Yeah. That's isn't that an hour to cast?

SPEAKER_03:

Oh gosh. Is that just Alan farting or maybe it's 10 minutes?

SPEAKER_01:

No, one action. Oh, is it one action? Yeah, yeah. Up to an hour. I was thinking of something. Oh no, it lasts up to an hour.

SPEAKER_00:

Maybe if you're ritual casting it or something.

SPEAKER_01:

And Gash's form is transmuted transmutiens. So I tried to stick with the.

SPEAKER_02:

That's right here. Yeah. Oh, you do. I'm upset. I'm upset.

SPEAKER_00:

Um It wouldn't really make sense that any of you would have Speak with Dead, though, because no one has died at the research base and you've never encountered anyone else.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. Alan, I mean that's why he has gaseous form, and uh I don't want to leak too many of his fun spells that he hasn't a fireball. But he does have spider climb. And that was very fun.

SPEAKER_00:

That was a great thing to just whip out of your pocket. Yeah. There wasn't a roof.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, even if we got in a combat, that would have been really in there. Yeah. Because they could have reached you.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, your running and walking speed is the same. You can just go up freely left and right, and you don't have to use your hands.

SPEAKER_02:

I am upset for two things. Because I want to figure out Mamir wants to figure out the full puzzle. Yeah. Yeah. But I'm also upset because we pro you're you're probably right, Brad. And I'm I'm upset. You know, not that you figured it out, but I'm upset just in general, because I double tapped him. I double tapped the dead guy. He died from falling down. And he was probably making death saving throws until I pull Cross bro to him in the head. So that was that's great. He's like, kill him. I'm these guys don't understand. I'll explain after I killed the dog, and then he's like his falls. Bop pop. That's another fall. Yeah. That's so funny. What were you gonna say though, Brad? Okay, go.

SPEAKER_03:

Um, yeah, I don't know. It's it's hard because it's like you're trying to you you want to figure out, like, but there's also this side of like, I don't want to die while I'm here either, or get taken over, right? You know, so it's like it's kind of hard where you're like, I want to know what happens, but I don't want to die. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

I was just gonna, if we figured it out, I was gonna be like Pyra, explosives right now. And I was gonna open the door and just have her basically like grenade the whole cavern.

SPEAKER_01:

Um, but we didn't figure it out. So when you were in the doorway, we I didn't end up doing this so I could talk about it. So you were get you were talking to them and telling them, oh, we're gonna we're gonna go uh talk to each other, yeah, we're gonna discuss, and then we'll be right back. And then that's when the um the neck octopus Jerry thing. Yeah, the Jerry ordeal happens. So um when Jerry and I stopped being there. What I was planning on doing was actually leaving outside, um using invisibility, and then walking back inside as you close the door. Uh-huh. And so I could hear them talk about us after they thought that we left to see if that would work. See if there's anything. I'm thinking like if they're not right in the head, they just like stand there.

SPEAKER_02:

Probably they would I'm curious if they would they went like full like shut down until until we uh were yelling and stuff.

SPEAKER_03:

Well, I think no that there's something that they were doing down there, right?

SPEAKER_02:

Because we did hear that it felt it didn't feel like actually mining. Does that make sense? Like it wasn't like a tung tung tung tung tung tung, you know, like a constant mining and like one little Yeah, tink. It was like uh almost like a robot like going ting, ting. That's what at least I'm picturing in my brain.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

And I will say, if if you guys want, you can still fake right away. Alan could say, Hey guys, how about I infiltrate? If you still wanted to do that in next episode, I think that's perfectly reasonable.

SPEAKER_02:

We just don't want that time. We don't have time with the same.

SPEAKER_00:

Uh I mean, so you had technically an hour of flex, you would just be pushing it. So that would be if you if you roll if you rolled poorly, taking the dogs back, you could play.

SPEAKER_01:

Part of me likes home field advantage, though, like bring them to us.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, well, I feel like our home field is home gotten with the dog. I this is my theory is that the second because our base is like ripe for warmth.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Everything is warm there. Like it's it's prime warm. Oh man. Um, and we have also the arcane thing shutting down, so everybody's already insane. Like everybody's already losing. Yeah, they're already loopy. Uh, not that we know, like we know that there's gonna be effects, but so it's like double trouble there. That's kind of what I'm thinking. Um, the weird thing is I want to call back all the way to the first episode that vase that we found.

SPEAKER_03:

Oh, right. Yeah, I forgot about that.

SPEAKER_02:

There's something that's going on there that I don't know. And it was found on the top of the snow. That was like a big deal. So I want I want to what do you guys think that's about? It's just full of mushrooms. We're doomed. Yeah, someone just left on top of the snow. I was like, nobody will ever pick this up. Well, I'm glad we took Pyra um because that's the worst person to fight, I feel like. If she has fireball, we would be good. So there's Yeah, yeah, that's true.

SPEAKER_00:

Um, so you're saying you're glad you brought her? Yeah, because to ensure that she didn't let nothing happen to her.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I think that's the most dangerous person because Nar is constantly asleep anyway. We'll know right away from even just like Java's personality if he's Yeah, but won't we be affected by the That's what I'm worried about is that we go back, we fail our saving throws, we're affected by the sickness? By the sickness more than anything else. And so we can't like can I say what my sickness is?

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, you you can. It's past now. You guys have cured from it.

SPEAKER_02:

So it was like a let me pull up the exact wording here. Oh, I'll tell you what mine was.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, go ahead and tell it tell what was this. Basically, it was uh I was so hungry, like I could not shake the. I thought that was gonna be so literally it was uh you you get so hungry and you snack so much that you even start eating things that aren't food. Hence why I started eating the jelly and everything.

SPEAKER_00:

You didn't go for forks, you didn't go for like anything. You were like straight up jelly.

SPEAKER_03:

I was like, yeah, I was like, in Gordon's mind would probably be like, this probably isn't food, but it's close to food. It's close in a way. And it was kind of getting like, all right, I'm starting to get like it's gonna get to a point where I'm just gonna be eating things, and then you're like, hey, your sickness is over. So I was like, oh, okay. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

I figured that was yours. Something that that was like con like uh your addictive personality becomes more.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, it's the I brought all the macrons, right? That makes so much sense. I was like, oh, road snacks, yeah, because I would be thinking like I'm so hungry, I've got to bring food with me. And so I would just be snacking the whole way, and then even once getting there, like, what do they got? Food, hence go like, I'm gonna go to the kitchen. Yeah, you know, that's where the foods lie.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, mine was repetitive patterns, so I kept on touching the shoulder of him, and I was like, You're hey, you're such a hero. You know, yeah. And so like I was like, I was going into like leaning in, like, I was gonna do it uh when we came back. I was gonna be like, Hey, doctor, I I'm so excited about you, and just keep touching people, um, and just keep on like uh so that was my sickness when I I'll be honest, whenever whenever you first started, and it was uh was it Java that you were talking to or something?

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, Java, yeah. And you were just like, I'm like so almost like I'm so proud of you kind of thing. I was so I was literally a part of me was like, is his sickness like now encouraging people? Like that is he can only affirm people. No, he can't like you know, just anything, it just has to be affirmations, yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

But I wanted I wanted to do something that was like like almost uh heightened what he would be doing, like what he thinks and stuff. So everything was gonna be like way more dramatic, way more like uh like touching like people and things like that. Or like if if it was still going down, I would just start touching like the goop. I would have been like touching the goop and stuff. Like completely opposite, but like heightened his like awareness because he has high investigation, high perception, which is like always aware. So it's like, oh I let me feel stuff, let me ooh, let me look at things like more heightenedly, more obsessively.

SPEAKER_01:

What was yours? It was so I didn't see it until like we were already in the kitchen um of the the second of Istigia cool. And so my what I was going to do once I saw it, my idea, um so my sickness was that I have uh I was attached to a lucky charm, and if I was more than thirty feet away from it, I have a disadvantage on like everything. Whoa. And so I was looking for another stick, like in their lab. That was so funny. But when did we receive that back before we even traveled?

SPEAKER_00:

It was before you even traveled, and I think you replied to me and I didn't notice it because I was like because we were moving on.

SPEAKER_01:

So uh it would have been the stick that he was using to flip the the Roomba over anyway. So yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

But yeah. Um yeah, I don't know about the the pot. The pot is what I'm I'm a little concerned about. Um, but now I feel like we have three things that we have to figure out. I think the pot's uh not fully related. Um maybe a red herring or something. Could be. Um is that what you were th what's your red herring? What did I say to you? Kippo Kippo looks over at me while the squid is like attached to the. Oh, I thought his squid was a red herring, but then it actually started to attack.

SPEAKER_01:

So it it was not.

SPEAKER_00:

It was not a red herring.

SPEAKER_01:

In fact, it was not a red herring.

SPEAKER_00:

So Jerry was so cute, and then you were like, oh yeah, Jerry was.

SPEAKER_01:

I was like, okay, yeah, but it's gonna be the people um or something else. And then you said both. And I'm like, there okay, it was the frozen cube.

SPEAKER_02:

I think that was the Yeah, I just don't understand how he got stuck in I guess they were doing experiments, and maybe the heat got turned up while they were doing the I just I mean that just seems to me like it's just wasn't dissolved yet, so they froze it when it was just like getting to the foot. Yeah, it was weird because uh the way you described it was like almost an AI that was trying to make a foot. Um, his his actual Yeah, but i I don't understand um Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, that's a little puzzling to me. I'm I'm guessing that's an actual thing, but they're like remembering fake memories because they were also mixed up on that too.

SPEAKER_03:

Right. Um yeah, because first uh Buddy had mentioned it was uh muddy or musty.

SPEAKER_00:

I think he said it was aggro, maybe?

SPEAKER_03:

I think he said aggro, and then the the old lady said that it was muddy. No, stinky. Stinky. Yeah. Stanky stanky, sorry.

SPEAKER_01:

Sorry, my bad. No, that's stanky. I'm the one who messed it all up because I or sorry, Alan is all because he just mishears everything.

SPEAKER_02:

Alright, so we all came to the conclusion that they're brainworms.

SPEAKER_01:

Um and if it was going for his eyes and his mouth and nose, like Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

I would assume so. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. So brain worms, dogs infected, I double-tapped aggro.

SPEAKER_03:

I I have a feeling that our base is like way under attack.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

I think we're gonna I I think we're gonna head back and be like, oh.

SPEAKER_01:

It's only been four hours.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

That's so much time. It is. So much time. And we have such a parasite has to leave the dog from inside of the dome is so like the main dome, if it can infect that area, we're doomed. I also crazy chicken stuff. Let me hold up. Let me say this real quick. Hold up. Um, I think they're a lithid mushrooms. I think they're a lithid mushrooms. I don't even know what that means. Uh so lith are like squid people, and their whole thing are like they have mind, they're called mind flares. Okay. Um, and so they kind of like stranger things. Yeah, it's yeah, that's where the the uh Stranger Things got it from. Gotcha. Yeah. Um, and so I think that they're like mind flare mushrooms. Um and they like almost like that, yeah. Yeah, almost like almost took over the uh uh micon um mycon people. Yeah. Yeah, and I think that's like cells.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, myconoid?

SPEAKER_02:

Is that yeah. I'm gonna look it up on don't get mad at us. I'll I'll look it up.

SPEAKER_00:

Um Mycanid, I think that's how it's shroom people.

SPEAKER_02:

Um but I think that because they look like their spaceship from the astro plane. That's what the mushrooms look like, if you guys needed a um Oh okay. Um is that uh oh oh yeah, and now show them a lithid uh or um mind flares. Look at mind flare.
