The Path to Your Highest Self
Have you ever wondered if there's more to personal development than just becoming a better version of yourself? What if your growth could impact not just your life, but the entire universe?
Meet Morgan O. Smith, a meditation practitioner of 22 years whose transformative experiences led him to create multiple ventures dedicated to human potential. As founder of Bodhi Mental Care and Wellness, co-founder of Kmore for innovative development, creator of the Unergy meditation program, and author of "Bodhi in the Brain," Morgan approaches business not as his primary goal but as a vehicle for genuine self-expression and service.
During our conversation, Morgan clarifies one of the biggest misconceptions about meditation: it doesn't eliminate emotions like anger. Rather, "meditation makes you more authentically human," allowing practitioners to experience the full spectrum of emotions while learning to express them appropriately. This refreshing perspective challenges the notion that spiritual practice means transcending our humanity—instead, it means embracing it more fully.
What truly sets Morgan apart is his conviction that every person can reach an extraordinary peak that fundamentally changes their life trajectory. This isn't just personal—he believes these individual transformations ripple outward to affect "all life, all time, all ages, everything." His life's work centers on helping others discover this potential within themselves, using various modalities including his 13-level brainwave entrainment program used by practitioners across nearly 20 countries.
Ready to explore your own extraordinary potential? Search "Morgan O. Smith" or "Bodhi in the Brain" to discover resources that might just change your understanding of what's possible in your personal development journey. What peak might you reach that could transform not just your life, but contribute to the evolution of consciousness itself?
This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbour's come together. Here's your host, Alanja Simmons.
Alanja Simmons:Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a personal growth and development? One might be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbour, Morgan O. Smith. How's it going, Morgan?
Morgan O. Smith:Good. Thank you for having me, Alanja. It's a pleasure to be here.
Alanja Simmons:Well, we're excited to learn about you and your business. Tell us about your company.
Morgan O. Smith:Well, I'm a part of a number of them. I have a nonprofit organization which is called Bodhi Mental Care and Wellness, which is uh organization that provides neuro feedback training and meditation for youth and families in underserved areas. Uh I also a part of uh Kmore uh for innovative uh development, which is a startup company. Right now we're working on an app for personal development apps for students in schools. Um I'm also a part of, I feel like I'm missing something, uh is my meditation program that I've been uh uh that I've developed and been um facilitating and um doing a whole bunch of things with Unity since 2010. Uh Unergy is uh is a meditation uh brainwave entrainment and program that has 13 levels. People around the world, probably like 14 to 19 countries around the world, people are using Unergy. Uh so it's a small community of people who are dedicated to the practice for personal growth, personal growth. Um I'm also an author of a book called Bodhi in the Brain. So Bodhi in the Brain. Uh even though on your side it shows um the opposite end, but that's the book. Uh it's about Unergy, uh about what Unity has done for other people and um what it does to the brain and the nervous system and how it helps in personal mental and spiritual growth. Um and this book could be found on Amazon, Barnes and Noble's, and a whole bunch of Barnes Barnes, Barnes and Noble and a whole bunch of other uh bookstores, which that book could be found in everything. So working on my second book, which is called Leave and Miss Madigan. Actually, it's finished. Um, I just now waiting for um the process into uh publishing and all that, but uh the the manuscript is totally finished and and all that, so I'm just waiting for that process. So I'm a part of a lot of different projects and and all that. Um I'm a meditator for the last 22 years, um which led to an experience which inspired me to do all the things that I'm doing right now.
Alanja Simmons:And how did you get into business?
Morgan O. Smith:Well, for me, business has never been my number one thing. I'm really all about expression. But of course, to to broaden my expression, business seems to seems that it has to be a part of it. Um when I was starting Energy in the beginning stages, it wasn't really about business. It was more of a grassroots type of thing. It's only in the last three years where um I started to take more of a plunge into business. But I'm not really great at business. I I I have business partners, people who I work with. Um they they rely on me on the creative part of it while they take care of a lot of the business. But uh of course I'm associated with business, so here I am. But really, it's really about self-expression and using business as one of the avenues of um helping me with that expression.
Alanja Simmons:And what are some myths or misconceptions in your industry?
Morgan O. Smith:Um, well, a lot of my stuff has to do with meditation itself. So there's a lot of misconceptions in the about meditation and what it does. Um, people think that meditation will get rid of all your anger and things like that. That is not true. Um, I would say meditation makes you more human so that you're in touch with your anger and happiness and all the things that come with the human experience. So I would say um meditation makes you more authentically human. Um but a lot of people don't really know that. They are told that if you're if you meditate for a long time, anger would disappear. Uh, you learn how to deal with anger differently, that's true. Um, and you'll know how to use anger in its right, in its in its right, um, in its right domain, but it's not it's not something you'd get rid of. You wouldn't want to get rid of all any of your human qualities. Your human qualities are there for a reason. And so my part of my message is to get people to understand that meditation is about making you more authentically human, um, which is really important in regards to your own uh human development and your own human journey. So um that's that's one out of many misconceptions. Uh, there are many others I can think of, but um, that's probably one of the main ones. Your emotions, anger, things like that. You shouldn't get angry if you're a meditator. No, that's not true. You should get angry when it's in its proper in the proper context. Um, but how you express anger is is the difference between a meditator and a non-meditator.
Alanja Simmons:And we know marketing is at the heart of every business. So the question I have for you is who are your target customers and how do you attract them?
Morgan O. Smith:That's a hard one. Um, I know that my target customers are people who are interested in personal development, meditation, spirituality, things of that sort. But there's so many different types of personal development and spirituality and things of other things of uh of that nature. So it gets really hard to find out out of those people who would be into say something like brainwave entrainment. Because brainwaving trainment is its own, it's in its own field. So sometimes when we're talking about um people who are in the meditation um field or people who are in the interest of meditation, it's a it's a it's uh it's it's very broad. And so it's about trying to find ways to narrow it down. And I'm not much of a marketing genius, I just do what I can in terms of expression. Uh, I may hire people from time to time, um, contract people to help me with the with the marketing and stuff of that uh of that nature. But me myself, I kind of suck at all those things. So I just express and I need to bring people on board, expert people who are experts in their field to help me push that further. So I don't have the actual answer to that, but I do know that it's not something that I can just take and broadcast to just everyone, um, especially if you're making financial investments. Um, but it's probably more of a niche market. So it's about knowing, knowing and trying to to to to kind of narrow it down to that niche market of people um who are looking for that type of thing to apply to their everyday spiritual work and development.
Alanja Simmons:And have you ever thought about doing your own podcasts?
Morgan O. Smith:I thought about it many times and I've made many attempts at starting one. Um I do have I do have a podcast which I've started and I've done a few episodes with. I've also uh I've been involved with other people where uh I was like a co-host on the podcast. But for me, it's just hard to get around to that because I have so many things on my plate. So trying to start something and finishing it would be an issue. Uh, but I do have a podcast where I probably have about, I don't know, I probably have at least 10 episodes. Uh, but it's just hard to edit and keep all that stuff going and maintaining everything while doing everything else. So it's it's it's crossed my mind, and many, many people have brought it up. Actually, it came up last week from someone. It always comes up. Um, but also, but I'm a guest on many people's podcasts. Um, I can be found everywhere and in on on different people's podcasts where I'm talking about spirituality, non-duality, meditation, things of that sort. But to dedicate myself to it, I would have to have a whole team of other people to help me with that. But um it's it's it's still on my list of things, of possible things, but uh yeah, many people bring it up. People think that it would be a great idea, which it is. It's just uh, you know, editing and all that stuff that needs to be taking place or something like that, but you know.
Alanja Simmons:And outside of work, what do you do for fun?
Morgan O. Smith:For fun. I it's hard as everything I do is fun in a sense. Not everything I do, but me talking about spirituality, um being a guest on people's podcast, uh being a part of the meditative uh community, that is I do it for fun. Um a lot of there's a lot of things I don't even do for money, like especially right now with my nonprofit organization, uh Bodie Mental Care and Wellness. Uh I just love doing it. To me, that's fun. Um I'm a singer by trade. I I can sing and I can do all those things. I like doing that for fun. Um, you know, being social, hanging out with friends, doing all that type of stuff. Writing, I like doing it for fun. I also have a blog, uh, I do that for fun. Um, that may sound boring to people, but I I like the intellectual stuff. So a lot of those things I do for fun. And there are many other things, of course. I like to cook and such things that things like that. I'm a I'm a good cook. I'm a great cook. I'm not gonna lie.
Alanja Simmons:Well, Morgan, please tell our listeners one thing they should remember about Morgan O. Smith.
Morgan O. Smith:What things that people should remember? Um I think people should remember, or people should at least try to focus on their own personal development. Um, uh, any individual can hit a peak that could be so extraordinary that it will change the course of their lives. So if a person can reach that, uh, which I've done myself, but if a person can reach that, uh they would never regret it because it would be the most miraculous thing that ever happened in their life that not only would it change them, but it would change the world. And I think everyone has that potential, and everyone should strive for something like that. If that's in your cards, people should strive for that because it's the most um um miraculous thing that could ever happen to a human being. And it's uh hard to it's hard to talk about, but it exists. It exists. Um, it's been documented in many books and scriptures throughout the ages. Um, I'm I'm taking I'm using my time to try to express that as well to show the importance of why um reaching your full potential is is highly important, not just for you, but for mankind itself, and not just for mankind, but for all life, all time, all ages, everything. So that's what I push for, that's what I strive for, and that's what I'm trying to promote to other people. It's not about me, it's really about you. It's about other people tapping into their their greatness and what their greatness can do for the world and for the universe itself.
Alanja Simmons:And how can our listeners learn more about you, Morgan?
Morgan O. Smith:Um, people can just Google me. Google get Google Morgan O. Smith. Uh, there's other Morgan Smiths you'll find on there. There's Morgan Smith the skateboarder, there's Morgan Smith uh the actress. Um, but look for Morgan O. Smith and you'll see a list of things on the part of. You'll see you'll find Energy, which is the meditation practice that people can join. Uh, there's of course uh Bodhi Mental Care and Wellness, with I'm I'm the founder and the executive director. Uh there's uh Kmore, uh there's Kmore, the Kmore Center, which is um I'm co-founder of. Um, and of course, me being the author of Bodhi, Bodhi in the Brain. You can even put that in B-O-D-H-I, Bodhi in the Brain. You'll find my book. Um, I'm everywhere on the internet. Uh I'm not hard to miss.
