Uh, first off, we're going to be talking to Mr. Jodie Doyle. Welcome back, everybody. It seems that we were just here not long ago. Right. Also, I'd like to say hello to Mr. Justin Ryan.

SPEAKER_05Uh at Lisa came back though. And then finally, we have Mr. Mac Johnston who's going to be talking to us about a local show that he's running. But first, we want to say thank you all to our listeners and for the persons that work on Facebook and all that kind of jazz because we appreciate that beyond the words that I can say right now. All right, let's go ahead and hand it over to Mr. Jason. Go ahead, buddy.
SPEAKER_02Oh thank you, sir. So, Mac, I'm happy that you were able to join us tonight. You and I know each other pretty well. Uh, I met you through the Classic Plastic Model Club. Um, but tell me a little bit about yourself and your other club that you're involved with.
SPEAKER_01I'm currently the president of the uh Grant Estate Modelist Club out of Nashville, New Hampshire. Also the head judge or pincushion if things go wrong. We are having our 33rd Granite Con show in uh Ware, New Hampshire on October 18th this year. Cool. We've tried to uh make it bigger, better each year. We're bigger this year. We're in the school that we were last year, but we've been able to move to the gym for more room, better lighting, wider aisles. Nice. And uh I think everybody should be happier with it as far as the layout. We got a brand new PA system we just bought. So yeah, we've tried to cater to some of the needs of the concerns we've heard from the modelers.
SPEAKER_02That's wonderful. So I do I have to say, a year ago, this not last year's show, maybe the year before, us car guys came to you and said that there weren't quite enough car categories. Right. And you guys were more than accommodating. You like created two or three new car categories for us, correct? So you're you you are open to change and making things better. So that's fantastic.
SPEAKER_01Well, I I want to make the show as big as we can make it, um, and still be able to fairly judge it the best we can. I also build automobiles other than armor, but I met with a couple of the people from the classic club, and I said, what can we do to make this better and get more people to have an option to go to or you know, a different show? Um, we sat down with the Denzas and uh a couple of the others. We came up with some different classes, we tweaked the stuff around so we could do that. And uh last year we've added a couple more that Classic uses to try to give them an option. And uh I'm willing to try it. The worst thing that'll happen is nobody puts anything in that class and it goes away, and we'll try something different.
SPEAKER_02Right. That's really good. There's been not all IPMS chapters are open to change like that, and that's fantastic that you guys are. Um, so you you let's talk a little bit about yourself for a second. You you said you build cars and armor. Uh, what's what style of armor are you mostly building right now?
SPEAKER_01I like World War II, World War I. Anything it's not mainstream and it's ugly and different. Nice. The people that like to do the Shermans, the Panzer Fours, things like that, they do them very well. I've always tried to do something different. I might not be able to make as many as they do in a show. It might take me a year or two just to do one, but I'm kind of known for what'd you bring this year, you know, when I go to some of the shows. So it kind of feels good, but I don't want to do the same thing everybody else does.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, cool. That's good. That's good. How long have you been president of the IPMS chapter?
SPEAKER_01I think around 2014 is when I got elected in.
SPEAKER_02Wow.
SPEAKER_01So, and I've been the head judge for about a year longer than that. Holy smokes. Okay. That was a two-day warning. One of the gentlemen lost his father two days before the show, and I got a phone call from the board, and they're like, We'd like you to be the head judge. It's like, what? Here I am. You are still too good of a job.
SPEAKER_00You're still on, you're still on uh staff.
SPEAKER_01Nobody else wants it.
SPEAKER_05It is not an easy job, dude. I can I could go through.
SPEAKER_01I have a good crew behind me that we're trying to do the best we can, and I've had some of them we've joined and or gone and helped the classics to um judging so we could learn their way. Yeah. Um, so we could try to incorporate it back at our show. One of their members has been there each year and helped us, you know, and guided us a little bit with it. I'd like to think it's made a difference.
SPEAKER_02Nice, very good. So, for people that are listening, when Max says the classics, he's referring to Classic Plastic, that's a model car only model club based out of Massachusetts.
SPEAKER_04Correct.
SPEAKER_02They have a show every year. They've been doing it 30. Well, I just had the flyer. I just talked about it.
SPEAKER_00I think they're almost the same as us. Yeah, 32 or 33.
SPEAKER_02And they have uh 28.
SPEAKER_07They average a good 300 entries.
SPEAKER_02They do, and they have like 28 automotive classes at that show, so that's a good show to go to and learn what you're looking at with car stuff. Not that you had to do that, though. You you build you build cars as well.
SPEAKER_05So I do some.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Would you be willing to come up to Arizona and help us out?
SPEAKER_01You're gonna buy the plane ticket?
SPEAKER_05Uh I can get you a 25th scale plane ticket.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's a good idea. That's I've been able to compete with some of the classic people, but as of late, you know, the the paint jobs and the and the there's a few people that have come along that have just blown me away. So I still feel good to be with them. I don't feel slighted by them, but there's some incredible talent in that club that comes to our show. So as long as we can keep doing it, I you know, I feel pretty blessed that we're able to have that camaraderie.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I and I've I've found from my own experience that uh most of the IPMS shows I've gone to over the last couple of years. I don't know if you agree with this or not, but the car classes are getting bigger and bigger, and sometimes they're even bigger than some of the armor and aircraft classes.
SPEAKER_01Agreed. And we're hoping it goes inside. Yeah, yeah. Um hopefully that I don't understand the Gundam and things, and I know that's a wave that everybody's trying to push. If that happens, good, we'll have to train some people, and we have a small group from another club that will judge it for us um that are into that. But I I'm a car guy, that's my occupation. I can understand a lot of it. So I like cars, you know. So and if Gundam comes along like they want it to, we'll just we'll work with it when it happens, if it does.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think it will. I think the Gundam stuff is gonna start showing up more and more prevalent.
SPEAKER_01Uh just south of us, they've got a ton of them. So it's geographics, I'm not sure, but we're trying a couple things, see if we can get a little more.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Good. Fantastic. Fantastic. What else? So, about the show, what else is should we know and should the listeners know that sets um granite con apart from other IPMS shows? Anything?
SPEAKER_01Our club logo is we don't nitpick. We try we try to be as fair as we know how to be. Um, we we rely on a lot of volunteer judges as some of the other one, you know, clubs do. Um I I don't want us to get hung up like the color of OD, or somebody has uh an orange on a car that says competition orange. I'm not gonna pull a paint chip out and look at it. I'm going on the guy's word, you know. And I just I don't want to kill it like that because there's enough to look at to try to see how good it is. And unfortunately, I say unfortunately, it's IPMS, so we're right now we're one, two, three. We've talked about trying to do an open judging, but it's down the road. It's just trying to get help enough to do it and have a bunch of judges that are familiar with the same system. But I don't know. I I we try to be fair, we try to have a good raffle.
SPEAKER_04Yep.
SPEAKER_01And if somebody has a complaint, I try to be found so that in my line judges so that we can maybe answer why we saw something a certain way, and other people can see it a different way, but ultimately you can't make everybody happy, but we try to do our best.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, fantastic. So I think I would be I have to ask, right? I'm talking to an IPMS president, and I have to ask, what is your what do you think about this whole picking models up? It's a hot topic.
SPEAKER_01So we don't pick them up. We offer at the tables, we use some uh like styrofoam dinner plates or platters, and sometimes the people flip them over and set the model on top of it if they choose. We would rather see them set it in the plate so you can grab the rim of the plate and slide it around to turn it like a turntable.
SPEAKER_02Oh and that way I was still I've been doing it wrong. I've been flipping it over and setting it on the wrong side of the plate.
SPEAKER_01It sets it up, and if you want it to be seen more, you know, you can get mirrored stands. But at the end of the day, if you've got three or four or five that are all the same setting on their four wheels, they're all gonna be seen in the same light, in the same degree. You know, we're not gonna pick one up and the others don't get picked up. We're trying to look at them in the same spectrum, you know. Um, but we if we have to move them, and sometimes they do, try to find the owner. If we can't, I got the dubious honor, I guess, of trying to move it safely and not have everybody just sticking their hands in there. But I just as a rule, the rule is do not pick the models up.
SPEAKER_00I always appreciate when you got greasy chicken fingers to do it, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we like that or sometimes the good wax jobs where the whack the cloth gloves slide right off in them. Yeah, we just don't leave the streaks.
SPEAKER_00There you go.
SPEAKER_05Fantastic. I had a really nice looking pen that I had with me when I was doing my judging, and I had my my my cotton gloves on, and that damn thing shot at my fingers like a freaking torpedo and took the wing off of the back of uh off the back of a McLaren. I'm like, yeah, okay, that was me.
SPEAKER_01All right. Oh man, the biggest offender. We try to have our members look for the cell phone people. Um yeah, instead of reaching over. And I had somebody drop one on my model once. Um, took a door off and a couple other pieces, and I looked at them and just went, I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_03Well, yeah, yeah, god god forbid you use the pinch to zoom feature on these fucking phones.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so you can hold that one ounce phone in your hand, yeah. Yeah, it's too bad. But we do try to watch that, you know. Yeah, yeah. This year we're gonna be you know more vocal about it. We're gonna try to put a poster up here and there, watch the cell phone photos or something. Just yeah, that's a good idea.
SPEAKER_03It's not free handing over it. So just put, hey people, pinch to zoom. That's all you gotta put. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Unfortunately, uh, you do see that a lot, especially with the cars. So you get a lot of guys that will they'll actually hold their phone two inches from a car and take a picture of it. And I I always side and say, Hey, so why aren't you zooming in on that from back here? I'm just curious.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because I've I'm not a techie, but I can figure that one out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_03Especially when it just takes two fingers.
SPEAKER_02I know, it's crazy. I've had a couple of them off.
SPEAKER_01Here, use your phone, use your stuff, you know. Wait, wait, wait.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. It just blows my mind. Just blows my mind.
SPEAKER_00So what are some of the what what are some of the details of the show, Mac? What time does it start?
SPEAKER_01You know, theme show starts at nine in the morning. Um, we take registration till noon. We try to start judging between 12:30 and 1 when we can round up enough judges to make some teams. We have the award ceremony obviously at the end. We we give out medals because of cost and stuff, and I think the medals we have are pretty nice. Um, the best of awards are acrylics or on a wooden base. So we we've kept those. We just skinnyed back a little bit on the uh the category trophies. We have a food truck, got an awesome food truck. She's been there for the third year now. Nice, nice. We got it coming a little earlier, and so far, we haven't heard anybody complain about the quantity of food, quality, or the price. So yeah, I hear that mac and cheese is really good.
SPEAKER_02It is, but uh how I know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. So yeah, we have we've got probably I don't have a number here exactly. We have probably 42, 43 classes. We do juniors class, that's hit or miss. Sometimes we get some, sometimes we don't. I mean, that's a sad part of the hobby that the juniors or younger people aren't getting into it that much, or at least going to shows. Yep, yeah. So um try to figure ways to and you know get them more interested, but it's a tough road.
SPEAKER_02It is, it is.
SPEAKER_05Yes, have you have you ever seen a junior buy a snap together kit off the vendor table, put it together, and then enter it in the show? Yes, yeah.
SPEAKER_01She actually placed with it, yeah, right. Yeah, we've we've had that happen a couple times. We do a make and take at the show, and I think she beat me last year. And I've seen them take their make and take and go over and put it on the junior table. So that's perfect. We lose a draw. They it to me, it's a spirit of the thing, they're trying to be in the show by doing that. So we if we have enough, we try to give out even a certificate. We've got some sitting around to give them something just for the effort of doing that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's awesome.
SPEAKER_00So, with more space this year, are you gonna offer up more vendor space? You usually got a really good uh selection of vendors there.
SPEAKER_01The last two years or so we were there, we had room for 30. Um, this year we're up to 35.
SPEAKER_00Nice.
SPEAKER_01Um, the aisles, instead of being six feet wide, we went to nine feet wide.
SPEAKER_02Oh, very cool.
SPEAKER_01That's good.
SPEAKER_00Mikey, Mikey and I could squeeze down through there together. That's perfect. There you go. Arm in arm.
SPEAKER_06Well, me and Jody have been known to hold hands and skip through the aisles.
SPEAKER_01That's true. Yeah, so we're trying it's a little different layout. It's still the the aisles like we've had it before. And the vendors are, I think we're this year we're gonna try to put them around the the perimeter of the room, and we're gonna utilize the bleachers a little bit. So if somebody wants to sit down, there'll be some sitting area. Um we do have some chairs they told us we could bring in. I was trying to think what else. Like I said, the PA system is all brand new. It's it's specified for that size room, so you know everybody should be able to hear something. Very cool. And uh, yeah, the registration, one thing we're doing, I was part of a small team. We're trying to come up with standardized entry and table forms. There's a gentleman from the Patriot Club who's done a monumental amount of work coming up with this program. So there's five clubs right now that we're gonna offer it on our website. We're in the process of putting it up this week. Patriots already has. So you you print it and save it, you can fill it out, put your information in. There's a drop-down for the club you're going to. When you put your line in on your master form, automatically populates your table form. Oh, okay. And when you go to the next show, because it's printable and saveable, you can delete or add models, whatever you want. The format is there, just change the header, it'll automatically do it, and it'll fill in your new table forms.
SPEAKER_05That's cool.
SPEAKER_01That's awesome. So it's been about 10 months in working on it, you know, in between some layoffs. But so there's there's five clubs right now that we're gonna try it, trying to get a couple more on board and see how it works. And we probably won't get a big turnout on it this year because it's new. Yeah, rings and wheels, they went with the first year, like about 20% people used it. Last year, they had over 50% of the people using it. Nice. Yeah, so there is a possibility we're trying to be on uh cutting edge of that technology and trying to do that in region one, or and we're hoping even with classic, if I could talk to somebody if they want to try to do that, don't have to be IPMS, it's just it's a program you can download and use it, and it might make it easier.
SPEAKER_00It's nice to have a fillable form, you know. My hand scratching is just horrible, you know. And it's like, how much detail do you put? So having the ability to do it online, adjust the text size and all that stuff.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's gonna be a smaller, like a quarter page, you know. The table we think we've got information enough. Last year, for some reason, we got embarrassed up front when people could not seem to put down their name or their contestant number on the paper. So we didn't know whose they were. So this year we're doing the same as another club. We're gonna have armbands and we're gonna write the contestant number on the armband. Oh interesting. You will not be able to go through your judging procedure, your registration procedure unless we see the one of the registrations, you know, watch you write your name on at least one of your things. Yeah, so we know something is on here. So we're gonna try to police that a little bit so that you go to go into the room, you gotta have your name and your contestant number down. Cool. Okay, that makes sense. Yeah, it's not gonna do it. You know, uh you know, one club does a one cell phone call, you know. And if you don't answer your cell phone, you know, who are you? This is your this is a model, is it you? You're done, not getting judged. Yeah, well, we we just when you've got 450 models or so, or even more than other shows, you can't always take your time to go look for these people that drove there and used the GPS but can't write their name down. It's a cold heart, it's a hard fact. You know, dude, write your name down. That's all we're asking. Yeah, legibly, of course. There's two things we're asking.
SPEAKER_05That's that's funny.
SPEAKER_00No, you're asking too much.
SPEAKER_05I've had to chase people down just because we had a question. I judges had a question about something over the PA, you know, try dialing the number, that kind of a thing. I'm like, well, I guess I could send them an email, but I don't want to hear back from them three days from now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, nail a demon.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_01It's it's a lot of work to put a show on to try to chase people. They just wish they'd write a name or a number down. It just makes it so much harder. And it's you're there, you want them to be a part of the show, but if you can't judge them because you don't know, and if they place, you have no way to get a hold of and say, look, you know, you're in contention for something, but you know, Casper can't enter stuff, yeah. You know, yeah, definitely goes right.
SPEAKER_02That's funny.
SPEAKER_01So that's a couple things we're trying to do.
SPEAKER_02Perfect. I so I think I have one other thing I'd like you to talk about, and then we can open it up to more of Jody's questions or or Justin's or whatever. You're doing something pretty cool this year for the monogram B17G kit. Can you explain what that is that you guys are doing?
SPEAKER_01It's supposed to we're gonna have a separate table. It's supposed to be a commemoration of, and I might not get this right, either 50 years of the plane's history or 50 years that the that the kit's been out. It's one of the others. I wasn't involved in the date of it, but okay. We're trying to do a display table. I we're gonna try and have maybe a prize or a gift certificate for a general overall choice.
SPEAKER_02Nice.
SPEAKER_01But um, we think right now we've got probably. be six of them that you might see on the table. So anybody else is welcome to do it. It's not a club thing. It's for anybody. Oh that's awesome.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01We're not it's not going to be a home cooking thing.
SPEAKER_02Oh very cool. Yeah. All right, Jody, build up a V17 real quick. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05But God, 50 years.
SPEAKER_01Evil Bay might have one.
SPEAKER_02I actually think I have I think I have one.
SPEAKER_05I don't have any in the staff. Yeah. I sold one a couple weeks ago. Did Jody buy it? No.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. All right. So if anybody else has got anything they want to ask Mac, feel free. That's that's about all I've got.
SPEAKER_00Well it's good that you're uh you've taken the input from people that have attended the show and have expanded it, made it a little bit bigger. You know, it was choked a little bit. I've I've only been two yeah I've only been two years and I thoroughly enjoy it. I'm looking forward to coming back you know in mid-October and it will always be on my list of shows to go to it's a great show so we greatly appreciate it. Yeah it's fantastic.
SPEAKER_05Making me really wish I could get out there now.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean even if it's tell us again what the dates are it's October 18th 9 to 4. It's in Ware, New Hampshire at the middle school. It's not Grand Road that goes through where Route 114 and it's right there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah it is it's you can't miss it. Literally cannot miss it.
SPEAKER_01North and south you can get to it easily the coming south go to the north it's a they go through where it's a little longer but yeah you just gotta figure out where you're going. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02To the model show yes yes that's right the where jokes just keep coming yes they do where in the world are we going?
SPEAKER_00Well I knew if I only knew where to write my name and number on the form we would be in well we can show you where oh perfect excellent and we can show you in the room where the show starts too yeah yeah listen it's not where it was last year so I might get lost.
SPEAKER_01Well it is where it was last year.
SPEAKER_02Not in the same room though.
SPEAKER_05No yeah I uh Mac I was wondering uh are are you guys gonna stick with the one two three from now on or are you going to be moving over to gold silver bronzes sometime?
SPEAKER_01We would like to try to do the open judging it might not be able to do the whole show at once but um some of the other clubs I wanted to get with them and see how I've judged it other IPMS shows that are using it they're doing like mostly military dioramas there's one in mass Bay Colony I think they're gonna try to do the whole show this year is um open judging. Wow okay but they've got like 60 people in the club you know we've got maybe 20 25 that come out of the woodwork to help so and not everybody wants to judge so right right we that's why I say um try to find some people in our club or other clubs I've asked that can understand like arm or playing stuff like that. I don't want a figure painter judging armor or anything mixed up like that. I just came from a show down south like that where they just handed out folders so some of the classes got judged by somebody that knew it others were just crapshoot. Yeah they were winning it yeah yeah so I I don't think that's fair to the modeler. No yeah they felt it was partial at partiality if you did it that way but dude if you if somebody's building armor I want somebody to judge it or cars or planes that has a a decent idea of what the stuff is you know you tell somebody you chopped and channeled a car they're gonna go what yeah well you look at you look at a tank and it's got floating wheels the barrel's crooked and it's shiny and they think it's oh that's cool. Well sounds sounds like it sounds like Max seen some of my armor but I mean I I've done this a long time and I've seen a bunch of that and yeah and unfortunately if you go to some other shows and that's the way it ends up being it's what it is. You got to kind of understand and get hardened to it you know you can go out of there scratching your head but um it's you're also there you should be there to see some of your friends and stuff and some of the other modelers not just that's right yeah you know I like to compete I got a competitive nature but you know I'm not gonna throw the thing across the room if it doesn't win but I just you kind of look and say I wonder what they were looking at and then you see what won you go ooh but what can you do? It's it's the it's what happens. Yeah so that's what I tell my guys you know that go with me or we all go together it's like whatever happens happens you just there's different sets of eyes looking at it. Yeah yeah it's all subjective it's all subjective well said well said I I uh yeah that word I just don't like it when when people say I would have liked to have seen more blank you know that type of thing it's like wait that's a personal choice that's building it your way that's not building it as present exactly I'm like I don't think you should be judging yeah the coulda woulda shoulda stuff that's fine if you want to write something afterwards but what's in front of you is the way and that's why the advantage to the modeler and why we try to say we don't nitpick you know sometimes you look at them they're one dimensional and you wish they did some pin washes of things and stuff like that and it but they didn't but what did they do? Did they do it well?
SPEAKER_03Yes yeah exactly exactly the I wish you'd that goes in under the tips you know like hey try this next time not under the scoring portion yeah yeah good way of saying it justin yeah yeah I've sat in on a few amps judging amps amps nets judging tables so yeah you know what I mean but there you get the you get to write out yeah positive and negative comments hopefully yeah no no you do you do you get the um you get the the scorecard you give the score and you kind of give an idea of why the score was given right but then you say you know but then you give a the positive like yo it looks great you got one wheel that's kind of like you know what I mean and you can score you know but hey maybe next time try using a darker pin wash to make it pop a little more or something like that but it doesn't that not dark enough pin wash doesn't go against the score of the bill right you know because I'm a I've been in amps for a long time I'm an assistant chief judge and uh that's one of the things that we have to look for after the table captains hand it in is you know it's if if somebody gets a 10 it goes looks great.

SPEAKER_00You can write something you know love the paint you know you know love the subject something like that but and if it doesn't look good you just I've seen it where they go it's terrible it's like whoa you're gonna rewrite that you just can't do that yeah they pay no money to come there whether it's IPM yeah this isn't Facebook you can't just say what you want to say it's amazing what you can do with that keyboard yeah exactly right yeah yeah and then watch what I do with my keyboard yeah yeah that's why that's why I want to carry a keyboard with me to show it's and be like oh yeah so you can show right watch what I can do with my keyboard whack yeah well have a set hanging underneath the keyboard so they can see them here here's my keyboard balls you know just oh there you go I can tell you that Jody and I are looking forward to coming this year it's it's gonna be absolutely it's high on the list so yeah great show just reciprocating you know because I like going to your shows the one can classic plastics yeah it's all good people yeah we got a great we're really great group of people up here I look forward to seeing all of them at the show so yep and you guys are moving your show this year too up here right we are we've got a new new venue um bigger bigger venue armory where we were holding it's a great venue i mean it's a great backdrop for uh for a model show just small and it just wasn't you know we had to kind of punt last year because of uh scheduling and it's an armory building so they they take precedence you know so yeah one year did you yeah week before the show they said it was before like desert storm or something yeah this is we're on an orange alert we you can't do it here so luckily just up the road we got a hold of the elks and that's where we were for a long time and we outgrew it big time. Yeah so where it's moving to is a good space you know um the club members you know we'd have to rent tables and the logistics of a bunch of people renting tables and getting tables from other places where the uh hotel venue where we're gonna have it they'll supply all that plus linen it's just gonna make life way easier for everybody we have to rent like 80 tables because the school only has a few round ones so that's our biggest expense is the tables and uh we we kind of held on to a bunch of our old stuff so leg extenders tablecloths and stuff we try to use just paper.
SPEAKER_01I was just gonna ask you if you're gonna do leg extensions yeah we we we cut some up years ago and uh we've used them we've had a couple breaks but we did enough of them so we have plenty and uh we use Venetian blind the sections for the table dividers for the class dividers yeah so easily movable as a as a super tall person I I greatly appreciate the use of table extensions uh table leg extensions because wow after the you know halfway through the day of having to bend over and look at the model kits I'm like I'm just gonna lay down here on the floor and stretch out for a little while people can stand on you.
SPEAKER_05Yeah right exactly yeah I don't I think it's a twofold thing because being I'm six feet so you know the judging all day you know if you are you you're you're crooked over it but for the kids they're doing this on the edge of the table you know yeah hang them out so it it's there's a pro and con but the the leg extenders are definitely the way to go absolutely and they're really not that hard to take off and put them on they they come off real easy lift and fall yeah lift and fall that's that's how I work out yeah I'd go to the gym I'd lift and I'd fall exactly go right over backwards yep yeah uh no we we started using uh table extenders here leg extensions here and it may have been just I'm like yay yeah it's only that's one less anvil I have to take um I think we started ours about 15 years ago oh nice yeah yeah I remember because I cut them all up yeah schedule for they use the leg extenders at classic plastic as well and those yeah it's schedule 40 is thick enough on the PVC so it doesn't split chop saw knock them out yep we were setting up for our IPMS and we're getting all the paper put on the tables and stuff and they brought up the tote boxes full of the uh extensions and we're all lifting them up and then somebody you know one of us old guys is getting on the floor to put the legs underneath there and then this uh this lady Lori comes walking in she's got four young boys with her and she's like okay boys here's the deal so they're scrambling around on the floor well we just lift up the tables and they just stick the legs underneath them we set it back down again it was like watching F1 right just move along got the room done in no time I asked Lori I'm like are these your uh these your boys she goes no they're out fine right ride their bikes I gave them ten dollars each come here do this I'm like thank you wow the um the MFCA club we uh when I was a cubmaster they convinced me to convince some scouts to come in told them uh you know free free admission to the show and all that and that's basically what they had them do is help clean up the uh the table covers and take out the the the leg extensions create a badge for them that's right yeah right that was up that was up to the leaders yeah yeah that that's how you get the youth involved in the hobby uh coupon codes and and cash and slavery exactly exactly cool i mean hookers and blow is what brought me into the hobby i don't know what well you were yeah we might get you out did you and justin change uh we we all have a different purview i guess yeah i was gonna say what that was a bright yellow black wheel so I would be inclined to tip my hat to that yeah and paint it as such but a guy that I knew in high school had one it was a metallic blue color and it had the white and pink stripes that went up over the top and sides oh I like be inclined to build a homage to him so oh I'm not sure I'm not sure I mean I've also we've all received the kit at this point and um just a cursory view it's a great kit great parts in there great detail yeah so it's gonna be no matter what you end up doing I think it's just gonna be it's just gonna be careful so yeah I have a question for the for for the group it comes with two figures are you guys gonna paint the figures as well I know Justin is I am absolutely right about it I'm gonna do an homage to Jody's high school friend I'm gonna paint mine blue with a with a pink stripe over the top of the perfect oh that'll that'll be wonderful I think there's a Marvel alien thing that looks somewhat like that.
SPEAKER_00You might be right yeah these are 3D printed yeah they are yes 3D yep yeah yep yeah some of that stuff is awesome it's out there oh yes oh these are fantastic full engine detail and it has a really beautifully done roll cage too it has yeah yeah full extended and fragile looking yes to scale the pan good engine detail i mean the whole thing is just super super yeah I was gonna say the pan looks really nice it's got it's not just a flat pan with a fake bottom end no it's a it's a detailed Volkswagen pan it's really cool yeah the body printed really nice there's a little bit of work to do but all the um all the supports all up underneath so there's not a lot of that's detail will just be hidden anyway you know so yeah I think for not much effort you can make it look really really nice stand it out a little bit put some high build primer on it uh exactly exactly don't you tell me how to live my life it's I love yeah oh my god I've got some right here that get the same thing so uh so jody so Jody's thinking about doing an homage possibly to what he had or maybe uh uh an old friend from school Jason what about you what are you planning perhaps perhaps I've got a couple of ideas floating around in my head and I'm just throwing these out there there's a bunch of them there could be I could do a Herbie tribute Baja bug that would be cool um I could do there's a Baja bug here in Wolfboro that is really nice it's like a light powder blue but it's got billet aluminum wheels on it and it's it's just oh it's beautiful the thing is beautiful I could do an homage to that I could slam it with the uh Iceman wheels that we got a few months ago right that would be different that'd be really different so yeah I'm kicking around a couple things I have seen those built in that manner you know the one-to-one stuff where you lower it put the Baja fender flares and all that stuff yeah they look really cool like that yeah exactly a slammed off rotor hmm yeah that's kind of like a double negative almost yeah for a sandbox not a desert yeah yeah it's the automotive equivalent of ink auto no what what yeah can I show can I uh show something here you guys I don't know what you use for primer but this is what I use it's uh it's rust olium you're done no that's a good no fish oil so this is uh made by a company called STEM it's high build primer you gotta know yeah yep it works awesome I've got two or three guys in the club it's a little expensive but it is a couple coats of this it works really nice I haven't heard of it's all a motive grade that's why it works as well as it does no fantastic it's actually designed for it yeah I just figured I'd throw it in there because we're we're on the subject of 3D printing and that might be an aid that somebody might not know about yeah nice that's good excellent because I'll have to search see if I can search that out around here then because um I autobody shops you know supply shops can get it or you can get it on I think you can get it on Amazon too.

SPEAKER_05Gotcha jungle site I like to um to me a primer but man that stuff just it's so thin there's your part number 42013 gray.
SPEAKER_03Yep to me a primer is good as a a filler a sealer you know or a uh a surfacer it's not a filler it's a surfacer it would be something that you use right before you actually apply your color code yeah yeah yeah it's not it's not a fill primer why it's so thin that's what I usually use it for so uh another good brand and it is automotive based you do you would have to go to their website but uh crest yep that isn't that's another uh Uh phenomenal product that uh is designed there and I I liked their products because the the fan tip that they have on it springs down their primers really nice. No crest automotive products, not crest oral products. Thank you.
SPEAKER_05I couldn't find any crest, so I used my aquafesh. This stuff sucks.

I had some ideas to uh check it out, but uh of course I had seen the uh pictures of it. But what's running through what initially ran through my head was building it with uh independent front and rear suspension, like like a modern style baja, like a like a true modern style Baja. But looking at this amazing pan, I don't I don't want to hack it up. This the suspension's all beautiful, everything in this thing is yeah is really well laid out. I don't I don't want to butcher it. So I'm thinking uh maybe change the tires and wheels, maybe, maybe go with something a little bit bigger. And um, now what's running through my head is getting with our good friends down at Tropical Glitz and and probably coming up with some sort of a really heavy metallic two-tone color, something that looks you know like an 80s bass boat, maybe and uh and and kind of stick true to what's here because it's you know Lice Man has done such a great job printing this out and design, and whoever designed this, I don't I don't really want to hack it up, which as you guys know, I tend to hack up everything, but I don't I don't I don't want to hack this up if you want to accuratize it, make sure you got the pushrod tubes leaking, yeah. You're not gonna stick a pacer engine in that. No, I'm not gonna stick it. I do have one of his big Volkswagen engines up here, though. That's but I hadn't really looked that close to one that's here.

But at the same time, I've got several different surfboards in 125th scale, so you know, might might go do a a beach cruiser type thing too. SPEAKER_03That's fucked up. That really is. But no, I mean it's got possibilities, man. It it does. I know does anybody make a uh 125th scale uh German MG42? Mount one of those to the roof of this sucker.
SPEAKER_05I'm sure you can I'm sure you can find a file for one and have one printed for you. Yeah, probably could, yeah, for sure. No problem.
SPEAKER_03Maybe you know what they say that the um a 10 nose gun from start to finish is bigger than one of these. Maybe get a 125th scale 88 millimeter cannon mounted to the top of his sucker.
SPEAKER_01Every time you fire it, it goes backwards, right?
SPEAKER_05Exactly. The rims rotate inside the tires as it runs it. No outriggers on it. As a matter of fact, in the Gundam world, there's they have we just got a set of these in a few uh yesterday, gigantic Gatling guns that just have these huge long barrels. It's bigger, it's actually longer than the actual model kit is because I've built this before. They're only a couple of bucks, like 10 bucks for a set for this thing. But there's a couple different ways you can build this because you can do it on a tripod or you can build it so that somebody's holding it, but you could probably modify the hell out of that thing and put that on that right there. Yeah, yeah, that would be kind of cool too. That would be a nice belt-fed system.
SPEAKER_02Oh wow, I feel the need to build it as close to as it comes because of the fact that he right. But what if you put like tracks on the back of it and skis on the front of it?
SPEAKER_05Like that Schwimmwagen type I've got one of those. I've got one of those.

SPEAKER_01That's why I was just looking at it and I was like, Oh, that would be it was a real conversion, it had tracks on the back and skis on the front.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, I got the main one. Yeah, but you know what you just did, Jason? You planted a seed in my head because I've got those 3D printed tracks that are just the tracks. Yep, yeah, yeah, I got a set of those too.

I mean, when he posted those other parts earlier this year, the the wide steel wheels and the engines. I mean, I immediately went on and bought all that stuff. Everything he had VW related, I purchased, yeah, because we were talking about doing some sort of BW. Yeah, and I actually bought a couple when I went to NL East, I had really no thing that I needed to buy other than I was gonna keep an eye out for some VW kits, and that's pretty much what I bought. I bought another Tamiya 1600 Beetle and the Myers Manx kit. I bought a couple of so you know we've got all these other parts and pieces, so I'm glad he came out with it. I am too, yeah, they're they're just fantastic.
SPEAKER_05Does this mean that Iceman like listens to us or something? Yeah, maybe, maybe uh that's highly coincidental.
