Speaking the truth in love. Let's grow in every way. Welcome to the Let's Grow There podcast. I'm your host, Holly Star Jackson, and I'm so excited to grow with you today. Are you ready? All right then, let's grow there.
SPEAKER_00Hello there. Welcome to the show today. This is episode 28, and we're talking about wisdom, purpose, and power. We're going to talk about where those all come from. And we're going to start right where we left off last week with Proverbs chapter 3, verses 21 through 26. This is the passion translation that I want to read this from. So it says, My child, never drift off course from these two goals for your life. To walk in wisdom and to discover your purpose. Don't ever forget how they empower you, for they strengthen you inside and out and inspire you to do what's right. You will be energized and refreshed by the healing they bring. They give you living hope to guide you. Not one of life's tests will cause you to stumble. You will be you will sleep like a baby, safe and sound. Your rest will be sweet and secure. You'll not be subject to terror, for it will not terrify you, nor will the disrespectful be able to push you aside. Because God is your confidence in times of crisis, keeping your heart at rest in every situation. So, really, just the first part of that is what I want to tie into today's show. I just want to go right back over just the very beginning. My child, never drift off course from these two goals from your life to walk in wisdom and to discover your purpose. Don't ever forget how they empower you. So the there is a verse that has been stirring in me lately, and I think of it so much. And even in relation to this verse right here, these verses right here, it's in Philippians 3.10 in the Amplified, specifically the Amplified Classic. It says, For my determined purpose is that I may know him. That proverb I just read to you says that to always walk in wisdom and discover your purpose. My determined purpose is that I may know him, that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of his person more strongly and more clearly, and that I may in the same way come to know the power outflowing from his resurrection, which it exerts over believers, that I may so share in his sufferings as to be continually transformed in spirit and into his likeness, even to his death. And um man, that just to me, that just sometimes the Holy Spirit will just tie together some verses from the Old Testament and the New Testament or from different different chapters and different places in the Bible. And I don't know if anybody else gets a connection out of those things, but uh, but I do. I totally, I totally see that. You know, last week when I was talking about this this Proverbs here, it was um it was good, but then after the show, and I mean after the recording, after I recorded it, and this other verse just kept coming to mind, my determined purpose. And I was like, man, that goes without Proverbs, because if you never forget to walk in wisdom and your purpose for life, and if your purpose is to know him, to be progressively more aware of him, progressively more acquainted with him, progressively becoming intimately acquainted with him, then you're going to be empowered in life. And that's what the proverb says too. It says, for these things, wisdom and knowing your purpose, and if your purpose is to know him, these things will strengthen you inside and out, inspiring you to do what's right, refreshing you, energizing you. They're gonna guide you, they're gonna keep you on the right path for your life. And if our purpose is to know Jesus more and more, which that is, I mean, that's a theme on the show. That's our our theme, um, our theme scripture is to speak the truth in love that we may grow up in all things into him, Jesus, to be like Jesus. And so that's what we're that's what we're after. That's our goal, that's what motivates us. That's hopefully that's why you watch the show. It's why I do the show because I want to help people to grow to know Jesus more. I want to grow to know Jesus more always progressively. Progressively is something that just continues on. It doesn't stop when you get to a certain point. You keep progressing. Yes, we're further than we were yesterday, but we want to keep going further. Yes, we know Jesus more than we knew him yesterday, hopefully. Um, but we want to keep getting to know him. You know, you never come to the point you say, oh, well, I know that person good enough. I don't need to know anything more about them. No, we don't do that. Why would we think that we would ever arrive when it comes to knowing Jesus? We won't until we get to heaven. And then I think we're still going to be learning things for all eternity. So we can always be growing in our knowledge of who Jesus is and what that means to us as believers, as Christians, as his children. So that's my determined purpose. That's my greatest desire is to know him and to please him, to be like him, to do what he wants me to do, to fulfill his plans and purposes for my life. And we we're gonna have wisdom, we're gonna have that purpose, and we're gonna have power when we're doing those things because of one particular thing that I want to talk about. And it's really not a thing, it's a person. It's the power of the Holy Spirit. All of these things relate back to the power of the Holy Spirit. I always think when I'm reading Proverbs, which you guys know, Proverbs is one of my favorite, uh, favorite books to really immerse in in the Bible, because we all need wisdom. And the more wisdom you have, the more, the, the more you walk in wisdom, and the more you have wisdom from heaven, not the world's wisdom, but wisdom from heaven, the better your life is. The the you know, the better you'll be able to handle situations, the better, the better mother you'll be, the better wife you'll be, the better husband or father or employee or minister or whatever, the better you'll be at whatever you do, the more wisdom that you have. So I'm always seeking wisdom. And when I'm in Proverbs, always when I'm reading that, I just think of it as the Holy Spirit. And I know some people relate the wisdom in Proverbs as talking about Jesus. But to me, I just when I read about the wisdom in Proverbs, I think of the Holy Spirit because the Jesus said that he is the one that will lead us into all truth. He will guide us, he will teach us, he will show us what's to come, he will give us wisdom. So I always think of that. So wisdom is related to the Holy Spirit. Our purpose in life is related to the Holy Spirit, fulfilling that purpose. We need the Holy Spirit, and the power that we need comes from the Holy Spirit. So that's what I want to talk about. For those of you who are especially, I especially today want to talk to people who maybe you don't understand the Holy Spirit, or maybe you don't understand how to have the Holy Spirit in your life. Maybe you don't really even understand what I mean when I say stuff like, uh, you know, the Holy Spirit told me, or I was talking to the Holy Spirit, or uh maybe you don't even truly understand what that means. I I want to talk to you today about that, or maybe you've heard about the Holy Spirit, but you think that that is maybe not for everybody, that it's only for certain denominations of Christians, or it's only for certain kinds of Christians or people. But I want to tell you today that the Holy Spirit is for each and every Christian. And if um if you've been taught otherwise, then I want to challenge that belief because I have the word of God to back up what I'm gonna tell you today. I have clear scripture to back it up. And the reason I care is not so that you believe the same doctrine that I do, but so that you will have what's available to you because the Holy Spirit is the greatest asset that we have as believers. Jesus said that we would we would need the Holy Spirit, that he would come alongside us and help us, that he would guide us and lead us into all truth, that he would counsel us, that he would comfort us, that he would teach us, that he would be with us. And so if you don't believe in the Holy Spirit or you don't, um you're not experiencing the fullness of what he can bring to your life, then you're missing out and you're you're not gonna experience all the abundant life that Jesus came to give you, and you're not going to live life to the fullest. You're not gonna, you're gonna have a hard time fulfilling God's call on your life and God's plans and purposes for you if you don't understand what's available to you in the person of the Holy Spirit. So that's what we're gonna talk about today, and maybe for a couple of episodes, I don't know, we'll see how far we get today. Have a lot of notes, and it's it's a big subject, and I don't expect to um exhaust the subject on the show, certainly not on this episode, and you know, probably not ever, because the more you the more you know and the more you learn, the more you know, and the more you need to learn. It's like it's never ending. There's always more to learn, um, even about the Holy Spirit, especially about the Holy Spirit, I feel like. So, first of all, Jesus said that we would he would baptize. I'm sorry, I read that wrong. John said, the the John the Baptist said that Jesus would baptize in the Holy Ghost and fire. That's in Matthew 3.11. It says, I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry, and he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. A similar verse is also in Luke 3.16, and it says, John answered and saying to all, I indeed baptize you with water, but one mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I'm not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. So John said that Jesus would baptize us with the Holy Spirit, and then Jesus himself said that we would receive power after the Holy Ghost comes upon us, Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit. You can say it either way. Usually I say Holy Spirit, I just like that better, but either way, both are in the Bible, depending on what translations you're looking at. Um, either one is fine. So Jesus said he we would receive power after the Holy Ghost comes upon us, and that's in Acts 1, verse 8. We're gonna look at that here in a minute, but um not just yet. Then Jesus also said the Holy Spirit would lead us, and I've already uh mentioned this several times today, but it says that he will lead us into all truth, he'll be our counselor, our teacher, our guide, and our helper. He said the Holy Spirit would take what belongs to him, to Jesus, and he would reveal it to us. Man, these are just some of the benefits of having the Holy Spirit in your life. And it's just some of the scriptures about it. There's so many, so much more. Then John uh 16, 13 says, But when he, the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is to come. So we need the Holy Spirit more than we need anything else in our walk with the Lord, because the Holy Spirit will get us from point A to point B. The Holy Spirit will help us to understand as we read the Word of God, He'll help us to know the right steps to take. He will show us the path that we should walk on, he'll lead us along the best pathways for our lives, and he'll reveal to us Jesus. He'll reveal to us God's plans and purposes for us, he'll reveal to us everything that Jesus has. So when we're reading the word of God, we need revelation. If you don't have revelation light as you read the word of God, you're gonna miss what it's really saying. The Bible says in Hebrews 4.12 that the word of God is living and powerful. And the word is so deep and it it's it's like it's layered. And if you don't have the Holy Spirit's guidance to read it, you're just gonna get so much. You're only gonna get like surface level, you're only gonna get, you know, just basic understanding of what it's truly saying. But when you have the Holy Spirit leading you and guiding you, teaching you and counseling you as you read the word of God, he reveals to you the deeper meanings. He reveals to you how the word applies to you in your life that day, even that very moment. So many times I'm reading the word. And, you know, I've read the Bible through, I forgot how many times now it's like 26, 27 times completely. And then I've read different parts of the Bible many more times than that. So I read it through at least once every single year. So I'm reading what I've already read many times, over and over and over again, but yet as I read the word every single day, I get something out of it. I see something in it that applies to my life and my situation right then in that moment, or I see something that I've never seen before. I I get um understanding that I've never had before. And that's because I have the Holy Spirit, because I listen to him, because he, because I yield to him, because I I want to hear from him, because I focus on him and I value him. I value him in my life. He is, you know, the Bible says there's a friend that sticks closer than a brother. The Holy Spirit is that friend for all of us. He's available to all of us. He wants to be your friend that sticks closer than a brother. And I can tell you for a fact, he is my friend that sticks closer than a brother. He has been with me all my life. Um uh, if you know, you guys probably remember my testimony that I've been saved since I was a little bitty, I was four, and filled with the Holy Spirit since I was seven or eight. And so all my life, I've had the Holy Spirit in my life, and of course, in different seasons and different times and in growing up, and uh, you know, I've come to know more about him, and I've come to know um, you know, just understanding, like learning, know about him, but then also I've come to know him more personally as a person, and you can only do that. You can only get to know someone if you spend time with them, right? I mean, like if you read about a person, you know, we know about famous people, we know about, you know, authors or politicians or historical figures or or famous people. We can know about them, especially with the access to the internet and Wikipedia and all the different things that are are out there, and now, you know, AI and chat and all that kind of stuff. We can know so much about people, but we can't know the people unless we have a personal relationship with them and spend time with them one-on-one and talk to them and listen to them. You cannot get to know somebody unless you do those things. And the Holy Spirit is no different. If you, if you aren't spending time with him, if you aren't aware of him, you don't, you're not gonna get to know him. And honestly, that's the saddest thing that I can think of is to not know the Holy Spirit when he wants to know you, when he wants he knows you, but when he wants you to know him, and he wants to be with you, he wants to spend time with you, he wants you to spend time with him, to acknowledge him. Uh, in Proverbs, it says to not only on your own understanding, but all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths. He wants to be involved in every single area of your life to help you, to bring you good results, to bring you, you know, away from danger, out of things that are destructive, away from things that are intended to harm you, and to lead you on the safe path, on the best path, on the good path for your life. He wants to, he wants to guide you and help you. And so he longs for you to know him, to acknowledge him, to listen to him, and to hear his voice. And if that's not something that you're familiar with, or you you're saying, uh, you know, like I said, some people think that it's not, it's not for everybody, or it's only certain denominations do that. Some people even think it's wrong. Well, it's not, it's in the word of God. And I can tell you from experience that it's it's the greatest thing. It's it's the most important thing in my life, is that my relationship with the Holy Spirit because he reveals Jesus to me and he reveals the will of the Father to me, and he reveals the word to me, and he takes me where I need to go. He helps me, he corrects me. Um, I am a person who, you know, I don't necessarily like to like being corrected by people. So I've always been like the rule follower, like I want to know what's right so I can do it so I don't get in trouble, so I don't get corrected. But I love to be corrected by the Holy Spirit because it's different. He knows how to correct me in the things that I'm lacking in or the things that I'm missing the mark or I don't have understanding. Man, um it it sounds weird to say that I appreciate correction or that I like correction or I even love correction, but I can tell you that when it comes to the Holy Spirit, I do. And sometimes, just like any other human, I am not quick to respond to that correction, or I don't really necessarily in the moment like the correction or the direction and the things that I need to do to make the changes that he's you know leading me in, correcting me in. But honestly, always I come to appreciate that correction and to be so glad that he took the time to correct me and that I know him well enough to hear his voice so that I can receive that correction. And then there's many times that he'll he'll correct something in my life, and I'll be like, oh, wow, I didn't realize that I was being that way. I didn't realize that I was like I talked about, I think it was last week on the show, how I was out of faith and um walking in the flesh in some areas, and I didn't, I didn't fully realize it. I mean, I think we know when we're walking in the flesh most of the time, but you know, there was just some some ways that I was, and I was thinking it was something else and it wasn't. And he corrected me and he was he told me that I was out of faith and that I was not walking in the spirit. And he, you know, his correction gives life though, because he also told me that I don't have to be, you know, tossed about in my emotions by the wind and waves of life. And, you know, it was it was at the same time correction and instruction. And it was comforting because I was hurting over a situation and I was uh, you know, having emotions over a situation, and he was helping me to see that I don't have to be overwhelmed by those things. Yes, emotions will come, but I don't have to be overwhelmed and tossed around by them. I can be stable in God's love, like we were talking about the last um couple of shows back, and I can be, I can be solid and unmoved and unshaken no matter what I'm dealing with, no matter what emotions come against me, no matter what situations cause what emotions. And he was telling me that it's so important that I have to learn to discipline myself and my emotions and my feelings and my will, my soul. I have to learn to be so disciplined that none of these things move me, that I look to him first. I look to him above everything else. And when anything happens that's negative or comes up that is difficult or hard, I have to be rooted and grounded and look to him as my first response. Not as, you know, after I've wallowed in self pity or gotten angry or gotten, you know, hurt and upset and let myself be sad or even borderline depressed for days on end. That's not his will for my life. That's not stability, and it's it's low, lower level than what he. Has available for me to live. So I appreciate that he said, Holly, you don't have to be tossed around by the wind and waves in your emotions. You can live stable and steady in your emotions, no matter what is going on in life, no matter what you're facing, no matter what situations come at come against you, no matter what the enemy is trying to do to bring harm. You can trust me to take care of you. You can hide yourself in the secret place of the Most High, under the shadow of the Almighty. You can hide in the cleft of the rock. And that rock is Jesus. And I, it's like I knew all that, but I didn't have the revelation of how it applied in even emotions and in and how important it was because he told me it's it's too important what you need to be able to do, what I've called you to, what's at stake is too great for you to allow yourself to be tossed around, to get out of faith, to get in the flesh. There's too much at stake for that. So you need to shape up. And he corrected me in love, and I appreciate that. And I received that. And the more you know the Holy Spirit and the more you learn from him, the more that you will as well. And um, so in order to get to that point, you have to know him, you have to spend time with him. And so before you're gonna do that, you have to understand who he is, and you have to be persuaded, you have to know in your heart uh what the Bible says about the Holy Spirit and about his role in our lives and about the baptism of the Holy Spirit. And um so let's keep going here in my notes and um let's see. Yes, okay, so I want to get really basic for a minute and talk about what or really who the Holy Spirit is, because the Holy Spirit is a person, as I've already mentioned, he's one of the three parts of the Trinity. The Father is one, the Son is one, and the Holy Spirit is one. And together they're the Godhead, three in one. The Bible says that it's something that we can't fully understand, but we believe it by faith. If the Bible says it, I believe it. And the Bible says that um God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are three in one, they're three distinct beings, and yet they act as one, they they operate as one. So the Holy Spirit is part of that trinity, and he is a person. He is not in it, he's not uh, you know, like I said, you can say Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit, but he's not just a ghost floating out somewhere and you know, just kind of spooky or whatever. It's not like that at all. The Holy Spirit is um he's a person, and he's vital to living the life that Jesus came to give us for all the reasons that I've already shared with you today for being able to live the life that you were born and born and designed to live, the life that God planned out for you before the foundations of the world. Now, um so you may be thinking, well, that's great for you, but it's not for everyone. But this is what this is how I think about it, okay? Jesus needed the Holy Spirit in his life, and I'm gonna show you that here in just a second. And Jesus also said that he would send the Holy Spirit to me, to the disciples, to his followers, to us. That would that applies to us too, not just the disciples. So if Jesus needed the Holy Spirit and Jesus said he was gonna send me the Holy Spirit, then I think I probably need the Holy Spirit in my life. And I know that I want the Holy Spirit in my life because I want everything that Jesus has for me. And if the Holy Spirit is part of what he has for me, then I definitely want the Holy Spirit. And if Jesus needed the Holy Spirit, I am not dumb enough to think that I can effectively, successfully do life without the Holy Spirit. And so I just want to encourage you, if you're one of those people that thinks, well, I, you know, the Holy Spirit's only for certain people, or you know, it's it's not for everybody, that's not true. The Holy Spirit is for every born-again child of God. He is for you. And um, I hope and pray, it's my prayer that by the end of this episode that you have that understanding and you have that desire to have a relationship with him because it's going to change your life. And if you already have a relationship with the Holy Spirit, then I pray that something that I says helps to clarify it to you so that you can share him with others, because sometimes we don't share because we're not clear on the ins and outs of something, and we're not really sure, we're not really sure how to explain it. And I'll be honest with you, I have wanted to talk about the Holy Spirit for a while, and yet I didn't because while I know the Holy Spirit, and while I know my experience with the Holy Spirit, I didn't know if I could really and truly explain all of that to anybody. And so this has been a challenge for me, but I it's been good because just like I say all the time, I learn as I teach and it solidifies things in me, and I have revelation and understanding. So I set out to talk to you about the Holy Spirit today by faith, believing that he was gonna help me say the right things, that he was gonna help me to make it clear and to do so with sound doctrine and to be able to inspire you and stir up a hunger in you for the Holy Spirit and to correct anything that you've ever been told that doesn't line up with the word of God, anything that you've been told that that goes against the Holy Spirit, that goes against having his uh presence in your life, having his power in your life. So that's my that's my desire today on the show. So, yes, okay, there are two different, and really there's more than just two, but there's two main experiences that we have available to us with the Holy Spirit. So two, there's two very important um aspects of experiences with the Holy Spirit that we we all need to have. And so the first one is when the Holy Spirit comes and lives inside of us. This is when we're born of the Spirit. So in John 3 5, Jesus said, Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. So when we're born again, we're born of the Spirit, and the Holy Spirit comes inside us and he comes alongside us to help us. Many people don't realize this because of either just a lack of teaching or, you know, like I mentioned a while ago, just doctrine that's not accurate or that's not biblical, that's man-made doctrines, or just, you know, a lot of people that get saved coming out of the world, they don't have any idea, so they don't know. And a lot of people think that um having the Holy Spirit means you speak in tongues. We're gonna get to speaking in tongues. We're gonna talk about that too, but that's not even that's not even it. That's not even what I'm talking about. This is when the Holy Spirit comes in and you are born of the Spirit. Every single Christian has the Holy Spirit. Maybe you don't know you have the Holy Spirit because you haven't been taught what that leading is that you sense, what that presence is that you sense in your life when you're born again. Um, but you have the Holy Spirit in your life. Everybody does. And then you have the opposite uh extreme where people say, Well, I don't need to be, I don't need the the uh evidence of speaking in other tongues because I have the Holy Spirit. Everybody has the Holy Spirit. So but they they say that, they know that, but then they they don't act like it. They don't live with um awareness of his presence in their lives. So we don't want to be in either ditch. We want to know the Holy Spirit is for us. We want to know that we have him in our lives, and we want to act like it, right? Romans 8 9 says, and this is the scripture that I have for you to confirm this, to help you to believe it, because you can believe what the word says. You may not believe what I say, but you can believe what the word says. And Romans 8 9 says, but you are not controlled by your sinful nature, you are controlled by the spirit, if you have the spirit of God living in you. And remember that those who do not have the spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all. So Jesus said, if you're not born of the Spirit, you cannot enter the kingdom of God. And Paul is saying here in Romans to the Christians that he's writing to that if you do not have the spirit of God living in you, then you do not belong to him at all. So if you're a Christian, if you are saved, you have the Spirit of God living in you. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. Also, sometimes the Holy Spirit will be referred to as the Spirit of Christ. And so however you want to say it, that's fine. In fact, Paul used both terminologies here in this verse, but you have the Holy Spirit living in you ever since you've been born again, whether you were taught that or recognize that or not, um you do. And like I said, I wanted to be really basic here because I want this to be able to speak to any level, and we'll get we'll progress past the basic here as well. So bear with me if you're like, I already know the Holy Spirit. I've been filled with the Holy Spirit all my life, 20 years. Don't, don't worry, we'll we'll get we'll get deeper here. So um, and then so that's the first, that's the first experience with the Holy Spirit. It's when you're born of the Spirit and the Holy Spirit comes into you. So you have the Holy Spirit in you to lead you, to guide you to um all the things that we've talked about over and over again, even today. Um you have the Holy Spirit. But um, so the second experience is when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. So you have the Holy Spirit within, and you have the Holy Spirit within. And these are the two uh important and main experiences that you must have with the Holy Spirit to have wisdom, purpose, and power in your life and to truly live the life that you were born to live and to accomplish and fulfill this signment that God has on your life. So this happened to Jesus, the Holy Spirit coming upon him happened to Jesus. It happened to the disciples and the followers of Jesus after he went back up to heaven. And um, so you may not have yet been baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues, which is when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. So that's another way to say it, being baptized in the Holy Spirit, and the evidence of that is speaking in other tongues according to the word of God. So let's look at let's look at the Holy Sphere in the life of Jesus. Jesus was born of the Spirit from the beginning of his early life because he was conceived by the Holy Spirit. Matthew 1 18 says, Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. The whole uh the King James Version says, of the Holy Spirit. So Jesus was born of the Spirit. So he had um, you know, Jesus' life is a slightly different than ours in that he was sinless. So Jesus told, um, this isn't in my notes, but I I forgot I was gonna put it in there. Jesus did not have to be born again. When Jesus was talking to Nicodemus in the um Old Testament, I mean sorry, not in the Old Testament. When Jesus was talking to Nicodemus, let me look that up real quick. I think it's I think it's John. See if I can find it really quick. If I can't, I'll just paraphrase it. Okay, yes, it's John 3, and it says, There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you're a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God's with him. Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus said to him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born? Jesus answered and said to him, This is a verse I already read you a while ago, most assuredly I say to you, unless one is born of water and the spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. So Jesus was saying to Nicodemus he had to be born again and be born of the spirit. And so Jesus didn't have to be born again because he never sinned. The reason that we have to be born again is because when we um because we sin is death. The Bible says the wages of sin is death, eternal separation from God. So in order to be redeemed from that, we have to be born again. And this time we're born of the spirit, not of the flesh. And that's how we have the Holy Spirit in us. So Jesus didn't have to be born again, but he was born of the spirit from the beginning of his life, if that makes hopefully that makes sense. Okay, so then the second experience of the Holy Spirit is Oh, sorry, I lost my place in my notes, and I didn't want to make sure I wasn't leaving anything out. Okay, so when Jesus time came for him to enter into ministry, he was 30 years old, he was baptized by John in the Jordan River, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him like a dove. From that moment forward, Jesus was anointed with power. It was after that that he was led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit to fast and pray and to be tempted of the devil. And then after that, he performed his first miracle and many more miracles, and he lived out his purpose. Remember, we're talking about wisdom, purpose, and power. Jesus lived out his purpose by the power of the Holy Spirit. So let's look at that in Luke chapter three and four. I'm not, I won't read the whole thing just so it doesn't go long. Very long. And I and I hope I'm not going too fast. I know I'm going kind of fast because I want to get all of this in because I don't want to leave you hanging. But if I'm going too fast, you can always stop and pause and rewind and and listen again, whatever you need to do to get the revelation. And we'll revisit it again as well. And you can always contact me and ask questions to clarify if you need to. So looking at Luke 3, okay, this is verse 21, is when John baptized Jesus. So we'll just read these two verses here. When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized. And while he prayed, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon him. And a voice came from heaven which said, You're my beloved son in you. I am well, please. I just want to quickly say the Holy Spirit is not a dove. It says that he came in the form of a dove and rested on Jesus. So the Holy Spirit came upon Jesus in that form, but the Holy Spirit is not a dove. The Holy Spirit is a representative of, I mean, the a dove is a representative of the Holy Spirit that you see a lot of times in symbolism, in Christian symbolism. And that's fine because it's right here in the Bible. But just know the Holy Spirit's not a dove, he is a person. Okay, and then going on, the rest of that talks about Jesus' um uh what do you call it? Um, his bloodline, his uh genealogy. And then when you get to the next, when it when it gets through with that, it goes to chapter four. And the first verse there says, Then Jesus being filled with the Holy Spirit returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness. The amplified version of that. I want I want to tell you what the amplified version says, and the amplified classic. It says, now Jesus full of and in perfect communication with the Holy Spirit returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness. The Amplified Classic says, Jesus full of and controlled by the Holy Spirit. So he was yielded to the Holy Spirit. Once he was filled with the Holy Spirit, once the Holy Spirit came up on him, he was in perfect, he was full of and imperfect communication with the Holy Spirit. And again, I've said it several times already, but if Jesus needed that, how much more do you and I need that? He lived a sinless life all the way up until this point. And yet he needed the Holy Spirit's power, and he needed the Holy Spirit's guidance, he needed the Holy Spirit to lead him, he needed the Holy Spirit's uh to he needed to be full of the Holy Spirit to accomplish his purpose in life, to have the wisdom that he needed to live out his life and to fulfill God's purposes and plans. He needed the power of the Holy Spirit to do the signs and wonders and miracles that he did. In verse 14, after Jesus went through the wilderness uh testing and trials with the enemy, with the devil tempting him and testing him, and he passed all those tests because he had the Holy Spirit. And then in verse 14, right after that it says, Jesus returned in the power of the spirit to Galilee, and news of him went all throughout the surrounding regions, and he taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all. And then he goes on, and it's my favorite, it's probably one of my very favorite passages of scripture in the New Testament where Jesus quotes Isaiah and says, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel or the good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed and proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. So it wasn't until after the Holy Spirit came up on Jesus that he was anointed and received the power that he needed to fulfill his purpose in life. And again, if Jesus needed that, I need it many times more. And you do too. And that's why I'm sharing this with you today. So it the Amplified Classic of verse 14 there says that Jesus went back full of and under the power of the Holy Spirit. So the Holy Spirit came up on him, and then he was under the power of the Holy Spirit. That is a great picture. That's what happens to us when we're baptized in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit comes up on us and we will have the evidence of speaking in other tongues, and we will be empowered to uh we're gonna get to that here in a minute. I don't want to get too ahead of myself here, but we'll be empowered and we'll live under the power of the Holy Spirit. We'll live under his authority, we'll live under that under just I can't explain it the way I want to, but we'll live under his power. And when we're under his power, we have power, and it is a beautiful thing. So this is the important takeaway here. We see Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit, he was full of and filled with the Holy Spirit, and he was empowered by the Holy Spirit, and we are to follow his example, right? And we're to follow his instructions. Let's look at what the disciples' experience with the Holy Spirit was, um, and the Holy Spirit coming on them and in them, or in them and on them. So it says that Jesus gave the disciples power, and that word power there, this is in Matthew chapter 10. I didn't put the right, I didn't put the verse here, but it's in Matthew 10. It says Jesus gave the disciples power. This is when he was sending them out to go and preach and heal and cast out devils and all the things. This is before Jesus died, okay? And he sent out the disciples, and it says that he gave them power. Power and that word power there in the Greek is exusia, exusia, and it means authority. So Jesus gave them authority. It's interesting because this doesn't say that he gave them the Holy Spirit there in that verse. It does say that he gave them this exusia power. I wanted to note this here, and I will come back later in the show to this for a reason. So while that isn't talking about the Holy Spirit, I wanted to mention it, and you'll see why here in a little bit. So then in John 20, Jesus gave them the Holy Spirit. This is in John 20, it's after Jesus was was raised from the dead, and he appears among them in John 20, 21. As the Father has sent me, I also send you. And then verse 22 says, And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. So Jesus told the disciples to receive the Holy Spirit, and he gave them the Holy Spirit. He breathed on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. That was Jesus' instruction to them. Then when Jesus was getting ready to ascend up into heaven after his resurrection, he told the disciples and his followers to go and wait for the Holy Spirit to come upon them and give them power. That's in Acts chapter one and chapter two. And I am not going to take the time to read all of that today, but I want you to go and read that this week. Read Acts 1 and 2. Read it several times. Read it over and over. And let the Holy Spirit give you revelation and instruction and light to shine on this and what it means for you. That you will see it for you personally and not just as a story in the Bible of what the disciples did and what they experienced. But know that it is for all believers, it's for all of us. Remember, you know, oh, I won't go there because it'll take us, it'll take us off to another subject. Um, but in Acts 1.8, I will tell you this first, but the rest of it I want you to read for yourself. It says that he told them that they would receive power. And this is not the same Greek word that the power that I told you a while ago. This is the Greek word dunamis. It means miraculous power, might, and strength. He said that they would receive that kind of power when the Holy Spirit comes upon them. So I want to ask you, if he had already given them the Holy Spirit and he had already given them power in Matthew chapter 10, why did he tell them to go and wait for the Holy Spirit to receive power? This is why, because they had the Holy Spirit within, and they had the authoritative power over demons that we have in Jesus at in salvation, because of salvation, but they needed the Holy Spirit to come upon them like he did on Jesus when he was baptized, so that they would have the mighty dunamous power that comes with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. They needed the fullness that Jesus had uh when the Holy Spirit came upon him. So if Jesus needed it, and if the disciples needed it, we shouldn't think that we're any different. We need it, and it's it's available for us. Jesus did not just empower the disciples and expect that once they were dead and gone, that it would be over and there would be no more power needed. That's not reality. That was not Jesus's expectation. And and in fact, they were to go and make disciples of all nations, and so they were supposed to go and what is a disciple? It's somebody who is like the person teaching them, like the person, like the person that they are following. The disciples became like Jesus, and Jesus told the disciples to go and make more disciples. Well, the disciples that the disciples made didn't know Jesus, they didn't follow Jesus because they were at a different time in a different place. But the disciples had followed Jesus, they did know Jesus, and they had this power, the same power that Jesus had. And so they were able to make disciples out of people who didn't know Jesus. And then those disciples made disciples and so on and so forth. And it continues even today. I'm making disciples right now with you in teaching you what the word of God says about the Holy Spirit and the importance of having both of these experiences with the Holy Spirit in your life. If you're born again, you've already had the first one, you have the Holy Spirit living in you. And if you um if you have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and you have had the Holy Spirit come upon you and you have the evidence of speaking in other tongues, then you've had both of these experiences. Now, if you've it's not a one and done situation, you don't just get filled with the Holy Spirit, speak in tongues once, and never do it again. That's not the plan, that's not the design at all. And and we're not getting into that today, but we are going to talk about it more with scriptures. But the word says to build yourself up in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit. And this goes along with the title today, uh, wisdom, purpose, and power. And we'll see how that um all connects next time. But um if you have not been baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues, then you haven't yet experienced the Holy Spirit coming upon you, and that's what you need next. That's the next thing that you need in life. That's what you need. You need it right now, even in right now, in this moment, you need it. But you need to understand that you need it, and you need to have revelation of it, and you need to receive it. And the Holy Spirit will come upon you. When you believe, you can receive it. When you when you when you when you are in faith and you say, I believe what the word says, that's what he said. Go and read Acts 1 and 2 and read it over and over until you understand what happened with your spirit. Maybe your mind doesn't understand, but your heart understands and your spirit understands and you're hungry for that. And then, you know, you can receive the Holy Spirit all by yourself. Um, but you don't have to. You can go to someone who can, who's full of the spirit, who can pray for you and pray with you in a spirit-filled church, or, you know, you can there there is no distance in prayer. You can receive the Holy Spirit even uh, you know, like churches like our church broadcast online all the time. And you can receive the Holy Spirit over the air when they pray for people to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit right there in your home. You can receive it all by yourself if you have the faith for it. So I just pray today that you are stirred up in faith. Those of you who have not yet experienced the Holy Spirit coming up on and experiencing the power and haven't yet experienced the power of receiving the Holy Spirit, the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I pray that you will hunger and thirst for that, that you will recognize and acknowledge your need for that, and that as you do, the Holy Spirit's gonna reveal himself to you and you're gonna receive that. So, Lord, I just thank you for this. I thank you for this subject. I thank you for the Holy Spirit. Thank you that he is the greatest, he's the best, he's the most wonderful friend and comforter, companion, counselor, uh he's so good. And I thank you for his presence in my life. Thank you that you designed it this way. And I pray today, Father God, that those who are listening to me, who do not, who have not received that experience of having the Holy Spirit come up on, Lord, that they will have an understanding and revelation and a hunger and a thirst for it, and that you will meet them where they are, Lord, that you will help them to understand and to receive. Thank you for giving them faith to receive. And I thank you, Holy Spirit, that you are with them even now, that they feel your presence and that they receive from you everything that they need, that they receive that baptism of the Holy Spirit, and that they receive that power and the evidence of speaking in other tongues. I thank you for it, Lord. I thank you that you are faithful to perform your word. You are faithful to act on your word. And I thank you, Lord God, that you are with them right now, that they sense your presence and that you just speak to their hearts throughout the rest of this day and all week long as they read the word and as they seek you. I thank you, Father, that they find you. Your word says that when we seek you, we will find you. So I thank you for that today, Lord, and I praise you, and I give you the glory and the honor in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. Well, I'm excited for you because it's only going to get so much better from here. It's going to get so uh, it's about to get really exciting in your life if you are receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit in this season. And if you already had the baptism of the Holy Spirit, I encourage you to share it with somebody else. Share that revelation with someone else. And if you don't understand why you believe what you believe, get in the word and find the scriptures. Go back over the word, the scriptures that we use today. And that's just, I mean, I just used a few scriptures to make my case for you today. But there's so many more. There's so much more in the word of God. There's so many good books on it, there's so many good teachings on it. So if you don't know how to share what you have with somebody else who needs it, then ask the Holy Spirit to help you and ask him to teach you and guide you because there's the the only thing better than having the Holy Spirit come upon you and knowing that and living it out and walking it out in that power and that relationship with him is sharing him with someone else and you're equipped to do that. So if you don't feel like you're equipped to do that, then do what you need to do. Get in the word and and study and show yourself approved so that you can you can make disciples too. All right. You'll be glad that you did. Well, thank you guys for joining me today and talking about the Holy Spirit. I hope you have a great day, and I will see you back here next week.
