We would LOVE to hear from you! Text us!

Isaiah 11:1-5 TPT The cut-off stump of Jesse will sprout, and a fruitful Branch will grow from his roots: the Spirit of YAHWEH will rest upon him, the Spirit of Extraordinary Wisdom, the Spirit of Perfect Understanding, the Spirit of Wise Strategy, the Spirit of Mighty Power, the Spirit of Revelation, and the Spirit of the Fear of YAHWEH. He will find his delight in living by the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord. He will neither judge by appearances nor make his decisions based on rumors. With righteousness, he will uphold justice for the poor and defend the lowly of the earth. His words will be like a scepter of power that conquers the world, and with his breath, he will slay the lawless one. Righteousness will be his warrior’s sash and faithfulness his belt.

Hello, and welcome to the Let's Grow There podcast. On today's episode, we are going to continue talking about the Holy Spirit, about wisdom, purpose, and power for living our lives. And it's one of my very favorite subjects. And I always say that because everything I talk about is going to be my favorite subject. That's why I'm talking about it, right? But it's just such so important for us to know the Holy Spirit, to have a relationship with him, to be aware of what all he brings to our lives and what he can bring to our lives. Because a lot of times we have, we have promises in the Word of God. We have we have things available to us, but we don't know about them. And if you don't know about them, you can't take advantage of them. You can't have them truly operating at optimal levels in your life. And you're not going to experience all the goodness that God has for you. You're not going to experience all the goodness that He has uh planned for you, that He's promised you if you don't know about that. So we're talking about the goodness of the Holy Spirit. We're talking about the person of the Holy Spirit. And if you didn't tune into last week, we're going to do a little bit of a recap, but I would encourage you to go back and listen to that one because it's foundational for who the Holy Spirit is and what he brings to our lives, why, why we need uh to know about him, why we need to know what he's doing, to recognize what he's doing, why we need to know about him, why we need to learn about him. And so let's do a recap real quick. And starting in for the last couple of weeks, we've looked at the scripture from Proverbs 3, 21 through 26 that says, My child, never drift off course from these two goals for your life, to walk in wisdom and to discover your purpose. Don't ever forget how they empower you, for they strengthen you inside and out and inspire you to do what's right. You'll be energized and refreshed by the healing they bring. They give you living hope to guide you. And I'm gonna stop there because we've we've been over that a couple of times the last couple of weeks. But that's what that's what we're trying to keep in front of us, to walk in wisdom and discover our purpose. And the Holy Spirit plays a huge role in that being able to happen in our lives. And to discover our purpose, to know our purpose for me, uh, ties back into Philippians 3.10, where it says, My determined purpose is that I may know him, that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of his person more strongly and more clearly, that I may in the same way come to know the power outflowing from his resurrection, which exerts itself over believers. What this is talking about here is knowing the Holy Spirit. If you do not know the Holy Spirit, you're not gonna know that power. You're not gonna know him strongly and clearly if you are not acquainted with him. So that's why we're talking about the Holy Spirit today. And this last week, and we're gonna keep talking about it for a while. Uh, last week I I laid the case for why the Holy Spirit applies to our lives today. Um, and for those who maybe didn't know or maybe didn't weren't taught, or maybe they were taught that the Holy Spirit isn't for today, that the baptism of the Holy Spirit and even speaking in tongues, that that's not for today. I um brought you scripture about why that's not true. That's false doctrine. The truth of the word of God is that the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues, and all of that is for believers today. It did not pass away with the apostles, it did not pass away in the first century. No, it's still here today for us. It's still part of the life that God's called us and designed us to live. It's it's the it's how we are empowered to live the life that God has for us. It's how we're empowered to receive all of the promises of God. It's how we're empowered to be fruitful, to multiply, to accomplish our purposes in this life for what God has created us to do. So it's so important. And it when we are talking about um being baptized in the Holy Spirit, we're talking about when the Holy Spirit comes and rests upon us, the Holy Spirit upon us. Just like in Jesus' life in Luke chapter 3, let's look at that real quick, um, 21 through 22, it says, it's talking about John the Baptist, he was baptizing people in the Jordan River, and Jesus came to be baptized. And it says, When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized. And while he prayed, the heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon him. Excuse me. And a voice from heaven came, which said, You are my beloved son, in you I am well pleased. And then Luke 4 1 says, Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness. And then verse 14 says that when Jesus returned from the wilderness, he came in the power of the Spirit, and news of him went through all the surrounding regions. I want to pick up from there this week and talk about where it was prophesied in the Old Testament that the Holy Spirit, that the Spirit of God would rest on Jesus. And so let's go to, I want to look at that in John before we go to the Old Testament. So in John chapter 1, verse 29 through 34, and I'm reading out of the Passion Translation, it's just a little bit, a little bit different, but you can read it in the other translations too if you prefer. But for today's teaching, I want to read from the Passion Translation. So it says, the very next day, this is John 1 29, the very next day John saw Jesus coming to him to be baptized, and John cried out, Look, there he is, God's Lamb. He takes away the sin of the entire world. I told you a mighty one would come who is far greater than I am, because he existed long before I was born. My baptism was for the preparation of his appearing to Israel, even though I didn't recognize him. Then, as he baptized Jesus, he proclaimed these words. Before this, I didn't know who he was, but the one who sent me to baptize with water had told me, You will see the spirit come down and stay on someone. He will be the one I have sent to baptize with the Holy Spirit. Now I have seen this happen, and I could tell you for sure that this man is the Son of God. So we see here in this verse, in verse 30, uh, verse 33, at the end of it, it says, He will be the one I have sent to baptize with the Holy Spirit. One of the reasons that Jesus came was to baptize believers in the Holy Spirit. So if you're a believer, you need to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. Not just to receive the Holy Spirit in your life when you're born again, which you did. If you're born again, you are born of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is in your life, but you need the empowering of the Holy Spirit in all aspects, just like Jesus did. This, uh, like I said, this this um when this happened in Jesus' life, the Holy Spirit came and rested upon him. This was actually prophesied about. It's one of the many, many prophecies about Jesus in the Old Testament, in the prophets that were uh, I mean, that came to pass in Jesus' life. So let's look at Isaiah chapter 11, verse 1. I'm gonna read it in two translations for you today. I'm gonna read it in the new living translation first. It says, Out of the stump of David's family will grow a shoot. Yes, a new branch bearing fruit from the old root, and the spirit of the Lord will rest on him. So I'm gonna stop, I'm gonna go on in just a second, but it says the spirit of the Lord will rest on him. So this is exactly this was prophesying what would happen when Jesus was baptized by John. The Holy Spirit would come and rest upon him. And then it goes on to talk about the um aspects of that spirit, the spirit of God, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. He will delight in obeying the Lord. He will not judge by appearance nor make decision based on hearsay. He will give justice to the poor and make fair decisions for the exploited. The earth will shake at the force of his word, and one breath from his mouth will destroy the wicked. He will wear righteousness like a belt and truth like an undergarment. So, what I want to talk to you about today is the sevenfold spirit of God so that you can know all that the Holy Spirit brings into your life. There are there is one Spirit of God, but it's a sevenfold spirit. And I hope I'm gonna do a good job of explaining that to you today. But to get into that, I want to get into that specifically, I want to read to you from the Passion Translation that same passage of scripture and then break it down. It's so so powerful. It's one of my oh, it's one of my favorite favorite portions of scripture, especially in Isaiah. Okay, so uh starting in verse one again, it says, The cut off stump of Jesse will sprout, and a fruitful branch will grow from his roots. The spirit of Yahweh will rest upon him, the spirit of extraordinary wisdom, the spirit of perfect understanding, the spirit of wise strategy, the spirit of mighty power, the spirit of revelation, and the spirit of the fear of Yahweh. He will find his delight in living by the spirit of the fear of the Lord. He will neither judge by appearances nor make his decisions based on rumors. With righteousness, he will uphold justice for the poor and defend the lowly of the earth. His words will be like a scepter of power that conquers the world, and with his breath he will slay the lawless one. It's interesting to note right here that the word for breath is spirit. So with his spirit he will slay the lawless one. Righteousness will be his warrior's sash, and faithfulness his belt. So we see here the way that um the way that the writer of the Passion Translation lays it out here, he breaks it down into the seven full spirit of God, whereas in the other translations will combine them so you can read it to where you see it in seven, but it's easier in this translation to do that, and then just the wording that he uses brings so so much clarity and so much light to what this really means for us. So the seven, the seven fold spirit of God, the first one is the spirit of prophecy. So you say, How did you get that? I didn't see prophecy anywhere in there. I'm gonna tell you. Um, and this comes from the the footnotes here as well. So in the Hebrew culture, to say the spirit of Yahweh or the spirit of Lord, the Lord rests on somebody meant the spirit of prophecy. So they would say about Isaiah or about Jeremiah or about the other prophets that the spirit of the Lord rested on them, on Elijah, on Elisha. The spirit of Yahweh or the spirit of the Lord rested upon them. And and what they meant by that was the spirit of prophecy. These were the prophets, these were the ones who prophesied, and what they prophesied came to pass. So the first aspect of the spirit of God is the spirit of prophecy, and then the second one is the spirit of wisdom, which is how that it was put in the New Living Translation. Um, and then the Passion Translation puts it the spirit of extraordinary wisdom. This one is uh I might be my favorite. The footnote here in the Passion Translation says this could also be translated as the spirit of skillfulness, and it's taken, it's the same spirit that we see in Exodus in the Old Testament, where, and we're gonna get into these a little bit more. My my plan is to go through the seven, the seven, um, seven full spirit uh of the Holy Spirit today, just kind of just going through the seven, what they are, and then to come back and talk about them more in depth in subsequent shows. So I don't want to get too far into this right now, but it is so neat because it's talking about in Exodus when they were gonna build the tabernacle and they needed to build all the articles that God told Moses um how to build the mercy seat, the ark of the covenant, uh the all the details of the tabernacle. He um he he um sorry, there were certain men that he he called that to do this work, to build the tabernacle, to build the the to create the portions of the tabernacle, the artistic design of it, and God gave specific, um, specific instructions about you know using scarlet thread and blue thread and gold and and all of the things that God wanted done, it required skill, it required craftsmanship, and this spirit of wisdom or extraordinary wisdom relates to that skillfulness. It's the it gives the equipping ability for music, art, business, writing, creativity, and wisdom for judicial decisions. This is the same wisdom that Paul prayed for the churches to receive in Ephesians 1. Wow, that there's so much there, and I want to get more into that. But like I said, I want to keep going through all seven uh aspects, and then we'll come back and go into each of them individually. Sorry, there is something irritating my throat today. So the next one I could stay on that first one. I'm sorry, the second one, I could stay on that one for a long time here, but let's move on. And the the third one is the spirit of understanding or perfect understanding. Again, the fat the footnote here says the spirit of intelligent insight. It imparts the ability to discern the truth, to know the meaning of riddles, and to decipher parables and allegories. This anointing was on the prophet Daniel. And then the number number four is the spirit of counsel or wise strategy. The footnote here says it's the spirit of guidance. The Hebrew word etza is used numerous times in the Old Testament to mean counsel, advice, or purpose. It's also used for steering or guiding a ship. This anointing imparts the wisdom and counsel needed for spiritual leadership. So that's the fourth one, the spirit of counsel or wise strategy or guidance, whichever way you want to say it. Number five is the spirit of might or mighty power. It's the spirit of a mighty warrior. Number six is the spirit of knowledge or revelation. So this isn't knowledge that's learned from books or study, but it's knowledge that comes from experiencing intimacy with God. And then the last one is the spirit of the fear of the Lord. And this is an interesting footnote. It says you could say his smelling or his sensing, a Hebraic figure of speech for finding pleasure in something. So this is saying that Jesus found pleasure in living from the fear of the Lord. The Septuagint reads, He will fill him with the spirit of the fear of the Lord, which is absolute loyalty to God. And the Aramaic can be translated, he will shine forth with reverence of the Lord. That's how Jesus lived his life. That's how he lived a sinful, I'm sorry, a sinless holy life because he lived by the spirit of the fear of the Lord. So the Holy Spirit empowered him to live a life that was sinless, not sinful, but sinless so that he could go and bear our sins, because he had to be perfect. He had to be spotless in order to be the sacrifice in exchange for us. He had to be perfect so that he could take on our imperfections. He had to be sinless so he could take on our sin. And in order to do that, he had to have the power of the Holy Spirit. And part of that power of the Holy Spirit is the spirit of living by the fear of the Lord. So just going over all of these just really quickly today, we see all of the different aspects of the Spirit of God and how we need that. We need extraordinary wisdom. We need, we need the fear of the Lord in our lives to live in holiness. We need skills, right? We need to be in whatever area we're called in in life, we need the equipping power of the Holy Spirit. We need that skillfulness. Whether our calling is preaching, whether our calling is teaching, whether it's, you know, being a school teacher, teaching children and raising children up, whether it's being a homemaker, I'll tell you what, I use so much skillfulness when I was a stay-home mom. So many skills, so many skills to be a stay-home mom, to be a wife and a mother, and to do it well. You use lots of skills. You are always switching hats, you know, doing all the things, even practical things, cutting hair. I cut my kids' hair, my boy's hair especially, and um baking cakes, you know, doing the birthday parties, making things special, being the doctor on call at all times, you know, being the cook, being the nurse, being the um the creative person in the home, being the heart of the home. You use every kind of skill just about to be a mom and to be a stay-home mom. And whatever your calling is, whether it, whether that's your calling to be a stay-home mom, whether your calling is to be a rocket scientist, whatever your calling is, you need skills. And the Holy Spirit brings those skills to your life. He amplifies them, he enables them, he brings his anointing onto those skills in your life. He is the one that gives you those skills, skills. He empowers you to succeed and prosper at what God created you to do. So we need that spirit of wisdom. We need that spirit of skillfulness in our lives to be able to do well, whatever it is that we do, whatever we're called and created to do. We need skills to do that. And the Holy Spirit brings such an amplification to our natural abilities because he's the Spirit of God. He's He's all knowing, He's all seeing, He's all capable, He's our counselor, our guide, our Comforter, and He leads us in how to do all these things. Sometimes there's things that you know how to do, and you're like, how did I know how to do that? Well, if you stop and think about it, it's the Holy Spirit. He's the one that helped you. And the more you recognize that in life, the more you lean on it, the more you can, the more you can. I'm trying to look for the right words. As you lean into the Holy Spirit and recognize He's there and you lean into Him more, the more you lean into Him, the more power, the more wisdom, the more capability, the more the more sharpen your skills are because He directs you into the best plans and purposes for your life. He directs you into how to do the things that you need to do. And in He knows what you don't know, and He adds what He knows to you. He adds His supply to you. That is a great way to say it. The Holy Spirit adds his supply to your supply. And your supply might have been decent, it might have been okay, it might have been enough to get by, especially if it's you know what you're called to. Do you'll have you'll have skills, you'll have the equipping, you know, to do those things. Look, we all have our natural talents and skills, natural inclinations and things that we're good at, things that we grasp, but no matter how skillful we are in the natural, we will never be as skillful as we could be when we will partner with the Holy Spirit. And just knowing that to me is so exciting, it's so thrilling, and it's so, you know, it's comforting too, because there are times that we have to do things that we're not naturally skilled to do. And that's that's when it really gets fun, right? When when you're comfortable doing something and you rely on your own strength, it's it's easy to do. It's easy to think, oh, I'm good enough, I can do this, and in and not think that you need the Holy Spirit, but you do. And so in those times when you are equipped to do something, but you rely on the Holy Spirit, you take it up level after level after level. And the more you lean on and rely on the Holy Spirit, the more you take it up a level, the better you become in your field and at your skills. But then there's those areas where we're not so skilled and we're not so comfortable, and we're like, oh, I can't do this, but yet it's something that we need to do. And in those times we can lean on the Holy Spirit and his supply even more because we can't do it on our own. We know that we can't do it on our own, and that kind of pushes us to rely on him more. And I think sometimes God puts us in situations like that so that we do have to rely on him more because he wants to partner in our lives and he wants to be, he wants to be in involved in every aspect of our lives. And, you know, we've talked about that before. He doesn't just want to be, you know, someone you visit on Sundays or, you know, spend a quick 10 minutes with reading your devotion in the mornings. He wants to be with you through every, every single part of your day, in everything that you're doing, in everything that you're working in in life, in everything that you're producing, that you're figuring out, that you're planning. He wants to be a part of that. And the more that you have to lean on him, the more that you do lean on him, the more you get to know him, the more you realize that you need him in the areas that it seems like maybe you can do it on your own. You begin to realize that you can't do anything on your own to the same level that you can do it with the Holy Spirit. And you don't want to because when you have a friend like the Holy Spirit, you want to spend every single moment with them. You want to partner with them, you want to seek out what he knows and what he has for you. So it's just so fun, it's so fulfilling, and it's so great to live a life by the Holy Spirit with the Holy Spirit and by his power. So um this is I know this has been a little bit short today, and I didn't get into in-depth on anything, but I'm having a little bit of struggle with my throat, and so rather than continue to um have to clear it and cough and stuff, I am going to just let this be a shorter program today. And next week, we're gonna come back and we're gonna start with the first um, the first one, and we're gonna start working our way through in-depth with more scripture, more examples from the word and from even from life, from myself and from others that really help you to see how wonderful the Holy Spirit is and what all is available to you in your life, and um it's gonna be really good. So tune in again next week. I'm sorry to cut it short today, but that's just where we're at this week. So um, thank you for joining us.
