No Shame: Standing On Gospel Truth | Diagnosis of the Heart

First Presbyterian Church Colorado Springs

Do you ever catch yourself judging others more quickly than you want to admit? Have you felt the quiet relief of seeing someone else get called out while you stay unnoticed? Do you wonder what God sees when He looks past our comparisons and into our hearts? In Romans 2, Paul turns the mirror toward us and invites us to encounter Jesus in a deeper and more honest way. The good news of the gospel is that God meets us not with favoritism or denial, but with truth wrapped in mercy. Jesus offers a foundation that holds even when our self righteousness begins to crack.

This message speaks to those who know the Bible well and those who assume they are doing just fine. God’s kindness is not meant to excuse us, but to lead us toward repentance and freedom. When we stop throwing stones and start listening, we discover that God’s judgment is never separated from His love. In Christ, the hard word becomes a healing word, calling us away from pride and toward humility, grace, and new life.

If you have ever struggled with spiritual pride, hypocrisy, or the fear of being exposed, this passage offers hope. Jesus does not leave us stuck in condemnation. He invites us to come into the light, receive forgiveness, and be formed into people who reflect His grace to others. This is the middle word of the gospel that leads us toward the final word of peace and restoration in Christ.

Scripture: Romans 2:1 to 11
“God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance.” Romans 2:4
“For God does not show favoritism.” Romans 2:11
