Cold Open And Show Setup

SPEAKER_00

Alright, here's the intro. Let's talk about what we talked about.

SPEAKER_03

Welcome back.

SPEAKER_00

Alright, you ready? What did we talk about? Consumption corner.

SPEAKER_03

Films?

SPEAKER_00

T. We didn't really. Not so much.

SPEAKER_03

Let's just check this lot right off the list.

SPEAKER_00

Alright. We talked about uh Do you want more? The Roots album.

SPEAKER_03

Do you want more? You're really gonna recap all of this stuff? Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I'm not gonna recap. Alright, well let's go. We talked about it. Okay. Right? And then we talked about George Cables. Cable Vision. 1980.

SPEAKER_03

Cables Vision.

SPEAKER_00

Cables Vision. My bad. You were paying attention.

SPEAKER_03

I know. I try. I'm trying.

SPEAKER_00

Uh we talked about uh instrumental imagery volume three by Medi and Iranian Electronic Ambiance Master.

SPEAKER_03

We should do this like a quiz, like where if I can see if I can remember anything you said. Reggie Young.

SPEAKER_00

We talked about Johnny Cash Muppets.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, we're gonna go. I've watched the Ghostwriters in the Sky.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It could count him, but I think we opened with that wrong. Sorry. Talked about uh Forever Young, a Reggie Young album from 2017.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, that makes a lot more sense now. I was thinking Reggie Jackson the whole time. You guys are in for real treat coming up.

SPEAKER_00

He's like one of like probably what three baseball players you can name. Somehow he's good.

SPEAKER_03

Mark McGuire.

SPEAKER_00

Somehow he's good. Babe Ruth. There you go. And Reggie Jackson and Reggie Young, if you will. Talked about The Irishman, the movie. Scorsese. We talked about There Will Be Blood. There will be. The movie. Paul Thomas Anderson. We talked about How's Moving Castle, the movie.

SPEAKER_03

And a little about the book. And a little bit about the book. Again.

SPEAKER_00

And then we talked about uh there was something else. You there was a show.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah, the Netflix documentary Carmen Family Murders.

SPEAKER_00

Carmen Family Murders. It was cute. It wasn't cute. It wasn't. It was great though. It was pretty cool. Yeah. It was neat. And then we talked about like spooky stuff. So they said they wanted to hear something spooky.

SPEAKER_03

We talked about uh dreams and there was some uh we touched on some aliens aliens and conspiracy theories and yeah. We just kind of took some spins around scary stories and we shared a few of our own little experiences and opinions and whatnot. Opinions and Rob got a little religious. He's very good at that.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, yes.

SPEAKER_03

But not in a way that you are going to imagine.

SPEAKER_00

Not in a way. You won't imagine how religious I get. Okay. And then we talked about uh baby it's cold outside. Yeah. Which we performed.

SPEAKER_03

We did.

SPEAKER_00

If you're watching this on YouTube, let's stick around for the end. That concludes our intro. This is our first intro.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah. One thing we didn't really put up though at front though, we ought to remember is we we are like getting ready for a big concert. And we have a lot of people come into the concert.

SPEAKER_00

Most of them are dead.

SPEAKER_03

Most of them are dead. Yeah. Or dying. Or will be dead soon.

SPEAKER_00

Do we have active pe the people who are actively dying?

SPEAKER_03

Well, we're all actively dying. Just ask my dad.

SPEAKER_00

That's your point.

Theme Song Bit And Format

SPEAKER_03

Okay. All right. Nice. Nice. Enjoy the show. Peace out. Hmm. I'm going to pick out a shirt to wear during this. Conveniently, this podcast is being filmed inside my closet, so if I need an extra shirt to put on, I could just get one.

SPEAKER_00

That's convenient. Let's start the song. Oh my gosh, you dropped your phone. I'm gonna do our theme song. Okay. You ready?

SPEAKER_02

I'm ready.

SPEAKER_00

Two married friends in a little room surrounded by clothing. And two microphones actually for they got in a car crash. She died in his arms. He kissed her lips.

SPEAKER_03

Muppet babies.

SPEAKER_00

Just kidding. We're not singing that. We can't sing that. No, but you know what we can talk about.

SPEAKER_03

What?

SPEAKER_00

Since we're just gonna go right to the can to the consumption corner. No, I just wanted to mention uh just wanted to mention something.

SPEAKER_03

What? I want to hear it. Mention it.

SPEAKER_00

Speaking of Muppets, I watched the uh Johnny Cash Muppets.

SPEAKER_03

You did Riders Riders, yeah, Ghost Riders in the sky. How'd you like it?

SPEAKER_00

It's great. Did you think of it'd be? I thought of you. For just a second, and then I mainly thought of Johnny Cash and uh Grover.

SPEAKER_03

Did you think about my patient from Beyond the Grave?

SPEAKER_00

I did. Yeah. She's a good one. I sure did.

SPEAKER_03

Welcome to The Audience Won't Like It, featuring Rob Shoecraft on the mic. Bass male voice.

SPEAKER_00

On the bass male voice.

SPEAKER_03

And Leslie Shoecraft.

SPEAKER_00

On?

SPEAKER_03

On a voice that doesn't sound like I thought it did.

SPEAKER_00

How'd you think you sounded?

SPEAKER_03

I don't know. Deeper. I thought I had a lower voice. Um but I don't. I don't have a lower voice.

SPEAKER_00

You thought you had a lower voice?

SPEAKER_03

Like lower than than I seem to hear it when I listen back to our podcast.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Um for those who don't know who aren't watching this on YouTube, I'm I'm looking at my phone right now and I am trying to pull my notes up.

SPEAKER_03

I'll just talk while you do that. Yeah, why don't you go ahead and do it? So this is a podcast where we have, you know, a little bit of music. We have a little cover. If you like music and you want to hear us do some songs, make sure you head over to our YouTube channel. If you're listening to this, the cover is not.

SPEAKER_00

If you're licking that, there'll be balls.

SPEAKER_03

We're not that we're a family-friendly podcast.

SPEAKER_00

That's not anything unfriendly.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Alright. Well, anyway, if you want to see or hear us, you'll have to go to YouTube to see or hear our song. Um, but basically each week we stand in line, quote, in line for a concert, and we see someone different every week. And uh while we're in line, we usually we get to know each other, we end up coming together on a topic, and then we kind of spend, you know, not as much time on that topic as we do on random other consumption corners getting us there.

SPEAKER_00

What's a consumption corner?

SPEAKER_03

Well, it's it's like a thing that you share about how you what you've been doing for the last week. Oh. Yeah, and that's like a good way to break the ice.

SPEAKER_00

Like you talk about like if you're drinking tea.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I'm not today.

SPEAKER_00

You didn't drink any did you drink any tea at all this week?

SPEAKER_03

Uh, this week I did. I drink tea almost every day.

SPEAKER_00

Did you really?

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm. There's a caramel bedtime one. I think it's gosh, I don't know the brand names. Yogi is one brand name, but this is maybe I want to say it's like celestial seasonings, but I don't think that's the one. They have fruit-flavored teas that are good.

SPEAKER_00

Celestial seasoning? Is that the br is that a brand name?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's a brand name.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like I've seen it before. They sell it in uh in grocery stores.

SPEAKER_03

You do, you get at Walmart. Everything that I've been talking about is purchasable at your local Walmart.

SPEAKER_00

Would you, if you were standing in line with somebody, would you would you open up with tea? If they were drinking tea.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, if they were drinking tea, I'd be like, ooh, what kind of tea are you drinking?

SPEAKER_00

If what if they were drinking coffee? What if you didn't know? Would you say, is that tea or coffee, or would you say, what are you drinking?

SPEAKER_03

I don't think I'd have to ask. You can tell by smelling.

SPEAKER_00

That's true.

SPEAKER_03

Sometimes you can tell that people are drinking alcohol out of water bottles.

SPEAKER_00

That's true.

SPEAKER_03

Sometimes.

SPEAKER_00

Sometimes you can.

SPEAKER_03

Not just by the smell of the of the water bottle either. Uh anyway, yeah. So uh so we're just gonna get right into it because Rob's nervous about how much he has to say. He's already gonna get in trouble with me.

SPEAKER_00

That's true.

SPEAKER_03

For talking to you.

SPEAKER_00

I like to have I want to have a four-hour podcast, but you want to have a 30-minute podcast.

SPEAKER_03

No, I want to have a 90 minute podcast.

SPEAKER_00

So we'll meet in the middle at three hours.

SPEAKER_03

I told one of my friends to listen to like we were gonna have a podcast, and she was looking really looking forward to it. And then when it when the first one came out and it was like 70 some minutes, is that how long the first one was?

SPEAKER_00

Something like that.

Corrections Corner And Pop Trivia

SPEAKER_03

She was like, whoa. I did not expect it to be that long. I was like, well, buckle up because they're getting longer. It was Renault. Renal.

SPEAKER_00

Hey Renal.

SPEAKER_03

Hey Renault.

SPEAKER_00

Uh okay, anyways, so yeah, well, speaking of long podcasts, we should probably get into this one.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, let's do it.

SPEAKER_00

So consumption corner. We already talked about tea. That's out of the way.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I don't even have anything to say.

SPEAKER_00

Let me check. I got three boxes to check here off of that. Shut up. Okay. Hey, I want to talk open, actually, open up with some corrections. Oh.

SPEAKER_03

Now we have correction corner?

SPEAKER_00

We have correction corner too.

SPEAKER_03

Cool.

SPEAKER_00

Ready?

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

Uh we talked about amphibians. We talked about turtles being amphibians. What?

SPEAKER_03

And you said yes, they were. And then I was further clarifying like, is that because they go in the water?

SPEAKER_00

I thought you said amphibians.

SPEAKER_03

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's why.

SPEAKER_03

And you knew that turtles were amphibians and you were so sure about that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

They're not the reptiles.

SPEAKER_00

They are reptiles.

SPEAKER_03

Did you happen to do uh discover the difference? Is it live birth?

SPEAKER_00

Uh no, reptiles.

SPEAKER_03

No, it's amphibians.

SPEAKER_00

They both have eggs. Okay. Now we're gonna now I'm gonna have to correct next week, though.

SPEAKER_03

Sorry.

SPEAKER_00

All right, so there was that. Uh I also want to mention that uh uh Correction number one.

SPEAKER_03

We know turtles are reptiles. Sorry.

SPEAKER_00

Quado. Quaddo was actually conceived after Krang. Krang was 87 in the cartoon. I don't I don't know if he's in the comic or not.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Quado was what 90.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, from Total Recall. Cool. Okay. Um I also, you guys didn't see this, but in my notes I wrote Quado with a Q. It's actually spelled with a K.

SPEAKER_03

Spell it.

SPEAKER_00

K Kwado. I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

K W.

SPEAKER_00

I still spelled it with uh oh no, it's K-U-A-T-O.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, Kuwado. It's Japanese. It I think it is.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

unknown

Quaid.

SPEAKER_00

He sounds kind of like an old, like an old wise, like a sage Japanese. Yeah. Like some sort of um also I I did a little bit of a dive on the female supergroups.

SPEAKER_03

Oh wow. Because you asked about Can you throw some out real fast?

SPEAKER_00

Uh no. There aren't any? I mean, there are some kind of, but they're not really. No. There's the high women.

SPEAKER_03

It sounds blame.

SPEAKER_00

But it was based on like the high women.

SPEAKER_03

Right, I got it. Thank you.

SPEAKER_00

Like Brenda Carlisle was in it. I can't remember anybody else, but there really aren't. It's kind of sad.

SPEAKER_03

Well with your uh as a woman, I can tell you it's not unexpected to hear that we haven't had opportunities to make super groups.

SPEAKER_00

We haven't had opportunities.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Held down by the man. Or held down by the man. Sorry about that.

SPEAKER_00

Um yeah, that's it. That's it. Uh oh, and Elias Codius played Casey Jones in the turn Ninja Turtles movie. Awesome.

SPEAKER_03

I don't even remember that that was something we said incorrectly.

SPEAKER_00

It was driving me nuts the whole time.

SPEAKER_03

Did we say something wrong?

SPEAKER_00

No, I just was trying to figure out who it was.

SPEAKER_03

It was like follow-up corner because I'm not sure.

SPEAKER_00

He's the guy with the couple of shooter.

SPEAKER_03

I think so. Did we watch it together?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, probably.

SPEAKER_03

I do remember that.

SPEAKER_00

He gets his arm blown off. He's like the kind of like sort of like a kind of armless, sort of a rapey kind of guy. Yeah. Not a good guy. Kind of like the song we're singing today.

SPEAKER_03

Oh no, it's between two good friends. Two married best friends. Yeah, stay tuned if you want to hear a little uh Christmas cheer.

SPEAKER_00

Baby, it's cold outside. Why are we doing that? Because it's getting close to Christmas?

SPEAKER_03

It is getting close to Christmas, and I I uh my bread and butter is themes. I get through a lot of work by coming up with themes. And and you are you're just a fool if you let a theme like Christmas time go by.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. And actually We're recording this a couple days before Thanksgiving.

SPEAKER_03

Remind me to talk about um the song It's the most wonderful time of the year when we're ready to talk about our ghosts.

SPEAKER_00

Stop! Oh I'm stepping on it, baby. Oh my gosh, I'm sorry. Just kidding. Just kidding.

SPEAKER_03

Never mind. This podcast is canceled. I hope you enjoyed it.

Consumption Corner: Tea To The Roots

SPEAKER_00

It's over now. Okay. Hey, let me just talk about some songs, some some albums I listened to, okay? I listen to Roots. Do you want more? Question mark, question mark, exclamation mark, exclamation mark, question mark, something like that. 1995.

SPEAKER_03

We talked about uh I actually listened to before the one that had the next movement on it. I think so. I think it's two albums before. Yeah, so before. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. 1995, it's sick. It's great. I like it better than uh Things Fall Apart. Things fall apart's great. But this is even better. And I only listened to it once. Can you imagine what it's gonna be like when I listen to it four times?

SPEAKER_03

My gosh.

SPEAKER_00

No, it's uh I'm not gonna go into a lot of detail.

SPEAKER_03

I think you'll talk about it the next four weeks and we'll get to know.

SPEAKER_00

Something like that. Yeah, yeah. It's really good, though. It's got a lot of Rosell on it. You know, Rosell?

SPEAKER_03

No. Is that a lady?

SPEAKER_00

No. No, he he does a lot of beatboxing.

SPEAKER_03

Sounds like a lady's name.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, you know uh Rosell does uh you know that if your mother only know if your mother only no.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, good.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, he does that, but that's not on there. So I did that for no reason. Okay, uh probably. We'll get back to it. It's super it's super jazzy, it's um it's wonderful. Okay, it's raw.

SPEAKER_03

Raw. It's nice. Nice.

SPEAKER_00

Alright. What'd you listen to?

SPEAKER_03

Uh you want me to keep going? Yeah. All right. I didn't listen to anything.

SPEAKER_00

George Cables?

SPEAKER_03

No, that's not true. I did. I learned two songs this week.

SPEAKER_00

What songs do you learn?

SPEAKER_03

I learned this is so dumb. You shouldn't even listen to me tail say it. But yeah, did you hear what I just said? Did you hear what I just said? If my nose was running money, honey, I'd blow it all on you. Learn that.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. I think I heard you say that.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Um and I learned Whispering Pines. Who is that? Uh well, the Moron Brothers. Honestly, the man that asked for that song is a wonderful, delightful human being, so I'd pretty much learn anything for him. And then uh yeah, then Whispering Pines, Johnny Horton.

SPEAKER_00

I kind of like that song.

SPEAKER_03

You know what? The sheet music was free on the internet, so I was able to skip the learning part.

SPEAKER_00

Because you can because you can side read.

SPEAKER_03

And then I also learned Help Me Make It Through the Night by uh Chris Christofferson.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_03

But you know what? Tyler Childers has a version of that as well. I wondered why it sounds so familiar to me, but that's why.

SPEAKER_00

But you had the try Tyler Childers one first.

SPEAKER_03

Uh-huh. As I just listen to him sometimes.

SPEAKER_00

Man, it's crazy how everything just blends together. Isn't that wild?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

We just talked about the highway man. Oh, Chris.

SPEAKER_03

I know.

SPEAKER_00

Alright, so I listened to George Cables, Cables Vision, 1980.

SPEAKER_03

What's George Cables do?

SPEAKER_00

Uh he's a piano player.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

He's uh it's a lot, it's kind of like a jazz fusion album. Um it is uh I think it's six songs on there. I'll get into more details later. It's about the third pass I've listened to. I I he's kind of new on my radar. I've been kind of seeking somebody to fill the kind of add to the the Bob James sort of groove. It's a bit it's a little bit more um, it's a little bit more on the fusion side, okay, but it's still got a really nice kind of a glowing groove to it. Just a bit more uh free, you know, a bit more improv, looser. Okay, yeah, you want me to move on?

SPEAKER_03

No, I don't.

SPEAKER_00

We'll talk about it some other time. Check him out though if you haven't. I'm gonna definitely dive into some of his other stuff. This is the only album I've heard so far. Love it.

SPEAKER_03

Cables Vision?

SPEAKER_00

Cables Vision. I like that name of the album.

SPEAKER_03

It's cute.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's uh he's kind of a cute guy. Is he? I'll have to check him out. George he kind of reminds me a little bit, hang on.

SPEAKER_03

George Cables?

SPEAKER_00

Reminds me a little bit of Milichek from my memory, but hang on.

SPEAKER_03

Rule check.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. From um from uh Severance.

SPEAKER_03

Office-based severance. Uh Severance is great. If you haven't watched that, you should watch it.

SPEAKER_00

You know what? He doesn't really.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

I think he just did in the picture that I saw.

SPEAKER_03

Uh-oh.

SPEAKER_00

Anyways, moving on. All right. Uh I also listened to Medi or Medi. M-E-H-D-I. How would you s how would you say that?

Jazz And Fusion: George Cables

SPEAKER_03

M-E-H-D-I.

SPEAKER_00

In Iranian.

SPEAKER_03

Medi, I think that's what I would say.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I listened to uh imagery, instrumental imagery volume three.

SPEAKER_03

What's he a doer of?

SPEAKER_00

It's kind of like electronic uh let me see if I wrote instrumental electronic ambient music. It's um like a like a lot of uh it's got a real sci-fi feel to it. Like there's a song on it called Twinkling Star.

SPEAKER_03

Does it have a lot of synth sounds in it? Yeah, but I don't like that. You know I don't like that.

SPEAKER_00

It's pretty cool. It's uh what's the uh what's the Star Wars score that's or the composition that's like is that like uh Luke Leia's theme or something like that? Yeah, it's I think it's Leia's theme. Yeah, I think it is.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Uh it's got a song that sounds a lot like that. Not so much that it's ripped off, but it's got like a a beat on it, too. It's pretty cool.

SPEAKER_03

I've been listening to that song would be cool with some beat.

SPEAKER_00

It would. It's not that tune, but it just always reminds me of it. And and I really like the whole album's sweet. Um it's good study music. I've listened to it many times over the years. I've never listened to any of his other stuff. I need to listen to volume one and two.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Possibly four.

SPEAKER_03

We have a couple hour drive coming up.

SPEAKER_00

And you'd like to listen to some Medi?

SPEAKER_03

Well, it can be on while we're talking.

SPEAKER_00

That's true. Medi, we're coming for you, buddy.

SPEAKER_03

Medi.

SPEAKER_00

Um, would you like me to move off of that?

SPEAKER_03

Sure. I don't care what you're doing.

SPEAKER_00

We talked about ghostwriters. Oh. Check this out.

SPEAKER_02

All right.

SPEAKER_00

You know who I listened to? Who? Reggie Young. You know who that is? Is he a baseball player? You already talked about Reggie Jackson on the last one.

SPEAKER_03

I did. You did. Well, who was on the last one that I thought was Reggie Jackson?

SPEAKER_00

I said Reggie Young, and you asked me again about Reggie Jackson. Wow. And I was like kind of impressed that you knew of Reggie Jackson.

SPEAKER_03

You shouldn't be. No, I'm already retelling my own jokes. What month he's famous for? Why was he in a calendar?

SPEAKER_00

They call him Mr. October.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, he's Mr. October?

SPEAKER_00

He's Mr. October, yeah, because he's he's a he's a model, Millie.

SPEAKER_03

I think retelling stories and jokes is genetic, sorry.

SPEAKER_00

Um yeah, I do it all the time. It's I think everybody does. Unless when I want to. If you listen to this podcast long enough, folks, you'll hear the same crap over and over again from both of our faces. No, Reggie Young was uh the guitar player on Highwaymen. Oh. You remember how in love I was with this playing?

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I decided to check out some of his work. Reggie Young. I listened to Forever Young.

SPEAKER_03

Forever Young.

SPEAKER_00

No, that's not on there at all. Not Stewart or Dylan.

SPEAKER_03

Wait, is that the name of the album, Forever Young?

SPEAKER_00

Forever Young. Yeah. It's kind of cheesy, name.

SPEAKER_03

It is. Do you think he chose that before that song? Is that Rod Stewart?

SPEAKER_00

Uh no, this album came out in twenty seventeen. Uh yeah, it's a Dylan originally, I believe.

SPEAKER_03

It's a terrible song.

SPEAKER_00

I disagree.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. I hate Rod Stewart.

SPEAKER_00

I know you do. But well, that's all. About Rod Stewart later.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Today?

SPEAKER_00

Well, yeah, he did a version of Baby It's Cold Outside.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

With Dolly Parton.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I like her.

SPEAKER_00

It's uh I could have done without it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, probably the world can do without Rod Stewart.

SPEAKER_00

I I don't hate Rod Stewart.

SPEAKER_03

Good for you. Tell me how about how Reggie Stewart is.

SPEAKER_00

So Reggie Young, this album is Reggie Young Jackson. It's really good. It's is like Is it instrumental? It's instrumental. Isn't that crazy?

SPEAKER_03

It is. I don't think I'm ever gonna listen to it.

Ambient Finds And Study Music

SPEAKER_00

I listen to a lot of instrumental stuff because viewers at home and listeners. Because I uh I can't listen to anything with lyrics in it while I'm working. And I, you know, I work on.

SPEAKER_03

You have to have headphones when you're working.

SPEAKER_00

I gotta have headphones while I'm working.

SPEAKER_03

Gotta have my headphones.

SPEAKER_00

So I listen to it's something my body needs anyway.

SPEAKER_03

Something your body needs anyway.

SPEAKER_00

So I listen to maybe a lot of this from middle music. And uh Reggie Young, great melodic blues. I don't know how else to really call it. It's like um it kind of reminded me a lot of uh a lot of like some of Larry Carlton's playing. It's just very, you know, it's not super fancy and dolled up, but it's I mean, he can do that. But he just plays and it's it's not quite as jazzy as like modern lore, that album I talked about with Julian Lodge, which is kind of in the similar genre, but uh there's some really good songs on there. Memphis Grease is awesome. That's the one that kind of made me think of Larry Carleton. Soul Love's really good. Uh this dude is is on all sorts of stuff I love. So he was a session player. Isn't that crazy? Surprised.

SPEAKER_03

You love session players?

SPEAKER_00

I do. Well, they're the best.

SPEAKER_03

Well, they think they actually are.

SPEAKER_00

So he was on Highwaymen. You know what else he was on?

SPEAKER_03

What?

SPEAKER_00

He was on uh Memphis Solstew, you know that song? Oh by King Curtis?

SPEAKER_03

No.

SPEAKER_00

It's one of those tunes that's like it's one of those tunes that's like, okay, you know uh Dance to the Music by Slying the Family Song?

SPEAKER_02

Uh-huh. Where they kind of add instruments to it and they build on it.

SPEAKER_00

Memphis Solstew's like that.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

And it's like how uh, how about some ball of Memphis guitar? And he's playing like all uh sixth. But you know what I mean? Like the hang on, I'm gonna do it. I can't actually play the line. Yeah, it's like uh like uh kind of like that sort of stuff, so it's playing intervals with six. I don't know. Is it first interval of the six? I think Cornell Dupree actually plays that lick, but he's on the tune as well. I couldn't quite get uh information on it. But he plays, you know, you know uh you know Hooked on a Feeling?

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm. I like that song.

SPEAKER_00

You know the not the Uga Shaka one by Blue Suede, but the BJ Thomas one. The one that starts it starts off it's a sitar.

SPEAKER_03

No, I don't think I've ever heard that.

SPEAKER_00

You have BJ Thomas really, really. Yeah, and also uh the Growing Pains theme song I think.

SPEAKER_03

What? How does that go?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, crap.

SPEAKER_03

That's all right, we'll come back to it.

SPEAKER_00

Um we got Yeah, yeah. We got the world's I think that's BJ Thomas. Cool. Okay, but there's a sitar in the beginning of it's like bum bum bum bum don. You know it, you know it?

SPEAKER_03

I don't.

Session Legends: Reggie Young

SPEAKER_00

That's that's him. That's our boy. Oh my gosh. He plays sits in the back. I was really excited. Yeah, he plays a lot of sitar. He's awesome. He's played with a ton of people. No. He oh he played on Suspicious Minds, Kentucky Rain. I know.

SPEAKER_03

Those are my two favorite on the songs, dude. All right.

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

He's uh if every consumption corner could be this exciting.

SPEAKER_00

I was super pumped. I wrote down that I felt like Homer Simpson when he finds out that all of his favorite foods are from the same animal. Oh, surely he's a wonderful, magical animal. Yeah, Faye.

SPEAKER_02

That is great.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he's sick. I'm gonna there's not a lot, he doesn't have a lot of stuff. He does like that, maybe his only solo album, except for maybe one more, but the whole thing's great. I'm gonna listen to crap up.

SPEAKER_03

But also just stayed home and uh gave his supported his family. Yeah, paid attention to him.

SPEAKER_00

That's our boy Reggie.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm. He's probably like a monster. Just kidding, I'm sure he's great. I don't know. Maybe Kitty Wills can tell us.

SPEAKER_00

Uh that's better. I love you, Kitty.

SPEAKER_03

Someone asked me about her today.

SPEAKER_00

Did they? Yeah. Like, what why do you ever hear about her bones in your closet?

SPEAKER_03

No. I didn't tell them. I was like, yes, why are you asking me?

SPEAKER_00

Um I watched three movies this week.

SPEAKER_03

Wow. Are they all three hours? What of them was one of them the one we watched together?

SPEAKER_00

One of them was three and a half. Um, no. Well has two hours and nine minutes. How long is that?

SPEAKER_03

How long is two hours and nine minutes? Yeah. It's two hours and nine minutes.

SPEAKER_00

In hours. I mean two two hours, two hundred and nine minutes. Two hundred and nine minutes. Well, 180 is three. Yeah. Yeah. So that was the Irishman.

SPEAKER_03

Um did you sing I was an Irishman?

SPEAKER_00

I did not, I didn't sing that missed opportunity. Scorsese would have loved it. It was another Scorsese movie. We've watched Cape Fear.

SPEAKER_03

Oh.

SPEAKER_00

You know, that was Scor Scorsese.

SPEAKER_03

Well, yeah, okay. I was like, we didn't watch, we didn't just watch Cape Fear.

SPEAKER_00

So have you seen Good Fellows?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, well, you and I watched it once, but in we were in college and I was just like, Have you seen Casino? No.

SPEAKER_00

Have you seen Wolf of Wall Street?

SPEAKER_03

No. I never want to see that movie.

SPEAKER_00

It's good.

SPEAKER_03

I know, but it's too much.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so it's got the same kind of beats. Those are all Scorsese movies. And it's got the same sort of formula where it almost feels like it's like the quickest three and a half hour movie you'll ever watch.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Because it's Scorsese movies, not all of them, but like movies like this, this style, they all they sort of feel like like a three and a half hour montage of like a guy's life. And it goes through all this, you know, the Pesci's in it, Harvey Kaitel's in it, Piccino's in it, yeah. De Nero's in it, yes. So all these, it's like a reunion of all these, you know.

SPEAKER_03

And what year is that from?

SPEAKER_00

Did I write it down? Yes, I did, 2019.

SPEAKER_03

What it's new? Relatively new.

SPEAKER_00

Pretty new. It's great. Like I put off watching it for well, six years if I did my math right there. But it's all about like um it's about like the like Jimmy Hoffa in that whole story. There's a guy named Frank Sheeran. No. No, but if if if if this is that well, I don't want to spoil anything, but I guess it doesn't really matter though.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, no, no, no.

SPEAKER_00

No?

SPEAKER_03

Save it.

SPEAKER_00

So it's uh it's all on the account. From what I know, it's uh there's I think there's a book called Um I Heard You Paint Houses, which is basically like a Frank Sheeran is the is De Niro's character. He's the main character.

SPEAKER_03

Is Ed Sheeran related in?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

That'd be pretty much Frank F Redhair.

SPEAKER_00

No. No. They do a lot of like CGI stuff, so they make like Pesci and and De Niro and look younger. And it's not obnoxious. Like it's cool. It's done pretty well. But like most of the movie, they're like that. Um Jesse Plemens is in it. Uh he's been in like the last four movies I've watched.

SPEAKER_03

Wow, you're on a real I'm on a plemence.

SPEAKER_00

I'm on a plemon. I'm a plemment's head.

SPEAKER_03

You might say is he dead?

SPEAKER_00

No. He's the dude that looks like uh who I said.

SPEAKER_03

I don't remember who you who you said he was.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Wait, let me see if I can remember. Matt Damon and somebody else's young Matt Damon's eight-year-old brother who went to puberty or what?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Well, he doesn't anymore. He's he's he went through. He's grown into himself. But the earlier roles, he looks like like a he's great. He's a fantastic actor. I'm not taking anything away from him. He's but he's he plays a wonderful creep. I would love to sing see him sing Baby is cold outside with anyone, anyone in a cage. You pick.

SPEAKER_03

Wow. Anyone in a cage.

SPEAKER_00

Anyone in a cage. Um Irishman's awesome. Uh Robbie Robertson does the the music? The music. Do you know who that is?

SPEAKER_03

No, I do not.

SPEAKER_00

He was a guitar player from the band.

SPEAKER_03

Holy cow, Rob.

SPEAKER_00

What?

SPEAKER_03

I don't know. He just knows so many things.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I I do like the band, and I like Scorsese. And I one of the reasons I like Scorsese is the way he uses music.

SPEAKER_03

What's the what's a what's the band song that I would know right off the top?

SPEAKER_00

Cripple Creek.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah.

Movie Marathon: The Irishman

SPEAKER_00

Um, he wrote that one, I think. He wrote or he wrote I know he wrote The Wait. I know he wrote the night they uh drug old Dixie down. What the heck? Brought it down, tore it down, blinked it down.

SPEAKER_03

They night they snicked it down. I think they sicked it down.

SPEAKER_00

I can why am I blanking all that? Anyways, it's got tons of stuff. Glenn Miller's in it, five satins.

SPEAKER_03

There's like the Glenn Miller band?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like Tuxedo Junction.

SPEAKER_03

In the mood.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like in the mood.

SPEAKER_03

In the mood's not in it, but but I mean, like that's who we're talking about.

SPEAKER_00

It's got a John Coltrane in it. It's got just a lot of uh um pro colherem, like um White or Shade of Pale, you know, that's all I do.

SPEAKER_03

We played it in in a marching band show.

SPEAKER_00

It's just got a great soundtrack, and they just Scorsese just keeps needle drops coming. Like it's it's awesome. Boop. So great movie, super violent, lots of swearing. Um, it's wonderful. But it's like somehow light. It's not light, but it's it's way lighter than like casino where you know guys get beaten with baseball beds and buried alive.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, see, that's why I want to watch stuff like that.

SPEAKER_00

But even that's kind of fun. Like they're in their underwater.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, you're right.

SPEAKER_00

Do you remember Yash?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I definitely remember Yash.

SPEAKER_00

Do you remember Casino too? The brothers' revenge.

SPEAKER_03

Uh, the one that you guys wrote together? Yeah. You had a link to those Yash videos.

SPEAKER_00

Where the brothers get out. The brothers get out of the grave. They they have their revenge. Anyways, uh yeah, I'll link to it. The brothers' revenge. The brothers' revenge. I watched There Will Be Blood.

SPEAKER_03

Good.

SPEAKER_00

That's an hour 158 minutes.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. That's two and a half hours.

SPEAKER_00

I almost stopped it and thought Leslie might want to watch this. It's I don't think you would have liked it, but I think you would have appreciated it. It's Daniel Day Lewis, Paul Dano. You know Paul Dano? Remember the Riddler from the newer Batman movie?

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Um you ever see Little Miss Sunshine? Yes. He's in that. He's Oh, you remember the show the movie Prisoners with Hugh Jackman and uh Jake Jill and Hall?

SPEAKER_03

Oh well. Yes, I think.

SPEAKER_00

He's kind of like the the mentally brother? Yeah, the guy who kidnapped the kids. Yeah. Oh. Who Hugh Jackman ties up and just starts.

SPEAKER_03

I hate that movie so much.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, it's so good though.

SPEAKER_03

It's terrible. Yeah, it's terrible, but it's they were right there the whole time. Sorry, spoiler.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, why would you do that?

SPEAKER_03

Sorry.

SPEAKER_00

We gotta say spoiler first and then do it.

SPEAKER_03

You could put it in the description.

SPEAKER_00

Actually, I don't even know if you're necessarily right.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I I don't actually know what you mean by that.

SPEAKER_03

I won't say what I mean then.

SPEAKER_00

Spoiler coming up. What do you mean by that? See, do it. Really?

SPEAKER_03

Do you want me to answer that?

SPEAKER_00

No, we'll talk about prisoners some other time.

SPEAKER_03

No, I am never watching that again.

SPEAKER_00

There will be blood.

SPEAKER_03

Attention if here's my tip for the day. If you are a a parent, don't watch that movie.

SPEAKER_00

There will be blood is awesome. I love that movie.

SPEAKER_03

Dream.

SPEAKER_00

It's uh it's got it's somewhere between. I'm not gonna do this right, but it feels like kind of like somewhere between like the lighthouse and and banshees of Inchurin or Inchurin or however you say that.

SPEAKER_03

Wow, that feels pretty far.

SPEAKER_00

Where you have like two really strong characters and actors, and they're just on an incredible level of some polarizing human qualities. Like like Daniel Day Lewis is just like just competition and greed incarnate. Like he doesn't care about anything else in the world except just winning. And Paul Dano is like a snake oil salesman type preacher, and and then there's all a lot of other great actors in it too, but they they just go, it's all about like Daniel Day-Lewis is like an oil tycoon, and he's just it's it's crazy.

SPEAKER_03

And the soundtrack is a nine period is a Setin? Setin?

SPEAKER_00

Setin, it's uh Setin. Uh uh. I think it starts in 1898 and ends in 1928.

SPEAKER_03

Cool. And I just thought of something I needed to write down based on Setin.

SPEAKER_00

The soundtrack is by uh I think Johnny Greenwood from Radiohead. And it's got like okay, you you know uh go rodeo sessions?

SPEAKER_03

Yes, I do.

SPEAKER_00

You know the kind of weird parts of that album? They kind of get into some like scrapey percussion sounding and stream. The whole soundtrack's like that, and it's used really well, and it just like it's very like anxiety breeding kind of music. It's it's great. Great Paul Thomas Anderson. I will I actually kind of want to watch it again as as brutal and messed up as it was, it was pretty fun. Um would you watch it with me if I watched it another time?

There Will Be Blood Deep Dive

SPEAKER_03

Probably. Really? Third Your Mother Will Be Blood still. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Cool. And then we watched go.

SPEAKER_03

Howls Moving Castle, the anime.

SPEAKER_00

I guess it's anime. I don't ever know. I'm always uncomfortable calling stuff anime because I I don't I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Someone's gonna come for us. I feel like we've said a lot of things that we shouldn't have said, and we're like somehow uncomfortable calling something anime.

SPEAKER_01

The audience won't like it, right?

SPEAKER_03

That's right. Anyway, so I was talking about reading Howell's Moving Castle. Well, then we got um my daughter wanted to watch the movie, and I I don't think I even knew there was a movie. But it's by the same studio Gibb Gibbly. Is it Ghibli?

SPEAKER_00

I was gonna ask you Ghibli or Ghibli.

SPEAKER_03

I would have said Studio Ghibli, but she said Ghibli.

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna say Ghibli.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. That also did Spirit away.

SPEAKER_00

Won't you write us in?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Let us know.

SPEAKER_03

And then four podcasts from now, we'll say it.

SPEAKER_00

We'll say Ghibli Gibb.

SPEAKER_03

Ghibli Gibbly.

SPEAKER_00

Gib Gib.

SPEAKER_03

We'll say Giblets. Anyway, um, Spirited Away, that firefly and death movie.

SPEAKER_00

Great for the fireflies in it.

SPEAKER_03

Did the same people did they also do Ponyo or is that different?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

It's got a Pony I feel like was Ponyo Disney? Was it? I don't know. Some like weird branch.

SPEAKER_00

Was Liam Neeson in Ponyo?

SPEAKER_03

I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

Because you know who did all the voices for uh Spirited Away? How's Moving Castle was like?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, all these top like alien.

SPEAKER_00

Christian Bale was in it, uh Billy Crystals. When was it 2004? Billy Crystals. Yes, Tippet Eric. Um like 2004.

SPEAKER_03

But anyway, it's based on that book. And I wish so if you have not s read the book, feel free to watch the movie first. This is what I would recommend. Rarely would I recommend this, but I think the movie probably stands alone is a pretty great movie. But it could not be more it very much felt like like once Caroline said that the that the person who directed it had like a real agenda against war, then that's all I could see. And I was like, this has there's no war in the book. Sorry. The conflict is the conflict has nothing to do with war. There's like a missing well there's like a missing um brother that and and like the Sophie's character, she's pretty true to her character. Like she just gets like she talks to herself a lot and she gets frustrated with because she is old and um but how they did not do him justice. The way he's written in the book, he has so much more um quirks. He's not this like Is he like a Willy Walker kind of character? He's more of a Willy Wonka character, like a young he is kind of young and attractive, and he does like break hearts everywhere he goes, which I guess they sort of alluded to, but like that's a much bigger deal. And like her she has two sisters.

SPEAKER_00

Was it like seeing was it like seeing Beauty and the Beast, uh the beast come to life and being disappointed?

SPEAKER_03

Yes. Yeah, that's sad. So anyway, I'm sure the movie is on its own, stands alone fine, but I just feel like they just didn't do how right at all. They did them bad, they did them dirty.

SPEAKER_00

So I have not read the book, as you know. I love the movie.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you should read the book and then maybe we can be on the book.

SPEAKER_00

I I want to read the book. I would you say it's like I wrote down in my notes along the watchtower. I'm wondering if they're far enough apart where you could appreciate both of them. Like all on the watchtower, Hendrix and Bob Dylan. Okay. Right. Yeah. Have you heard both versions? So they're quite different. They're both pretty great. Hendrix, I prefer. I think Bob Dylan even prefers Hendrix's version. How could you not? But um, all that being said, forget about that analogy. It's just I I'll tell you what, I'll read the book, because I told you I was going to anyway. And then I'll let you know if that analogy stands. But are they far enough apart? Because like we talked about um what we what were two the two properties we talked about? Um properties? Well, not properties, uh intellectual property. Yeah, uh uh we were just talking about it. Caroline.

SPEAKER_03

Uh Ready Player One.

SPEAKER_00

Ready Player One and Oh, what was the other one?

SPEAKER_03

I haven't.

SPEAKER_00

The one with the with the boy, the genius boy who has all the family friends. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

No, that was just a bad movie.

SPEAKER_00

That movie sucked. Yeah. But the differences were was it further away from so Ready Player One, like again, Ready Player One, probably a pretty good movie. If you hadn't read it, I've heard like it was pretty well uh heralded. Like people liked it a lot.

SPEAKER_03

Here's here's what I want to speak to on that.

SPEAKER_00

But the book is so much better.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So Howell's Moving Castle, I don't even know why they call it like it's almost not it's not even really about how. Like, I don't know. It just was like not about what it was about. It just was a completely different story. Like you could have totally put new characters in. Like they barely used the premise of Howl's Moving Castle.

SPEAKER_00

I thought it was I was getting some serious Doctor Who vibes from it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I I mean he's not really like that. He's not really a hero.

SPEAKER_00

The reason I say that is because you have you have the first of all, everything's bigger on the inside, kind of thing.

SPEAKER_03

Well, of course, that's true.

SPEAKER_00

You have you have like you have these these companions like Sophie just sort of almost falls in love with him immediately. Like all the like all Doctor Who's like companions sort of like are kind of in love with him and have like a royalty to him. It's it's not like that, right? The movies like that, yes.

SPEAKER_03

But the book, I just it's so hard once you've read the book, especially because I just reread it within the last couple months.

SPEAKER_00

It just really made me want to watch Doctor Who.

SPEAKER_03

Well, me too.

SPEAKER_00

And he teleports places in like space-time. He does have like a door and he always kind of like doesn't really care, like he's in major trouble, but isn't like exactly sweating.

SPEAKER_03

If this interests you at all, watch the movie first and then go read the book.

SPEAKER_00

Watch all the Doctor Who's first and then So watch the you said watch the movie first, then read the book.

SPEAKER_03

I would do that, yes.

SPEAKER_00

That's a hot take.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

I like that. This what's popular.

SPEAKER_03

Person who likes to see because like it didn't bring anything that I wanted to see to life.

SPEAKER_00

Um what did you want to see? Could you say something that we won't spoil it?

SPEAKER_03

I mean, pretty much the entire plot was different.

SPEAKER_00

So Clark liked it.

SPEAKER_03

Good.

SPEAKER_00

Clark usually will he'll watch five minutes of a movie with us and be like, bye.

SPEAKER_03

Or roll around until we yell at him and then leave.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he's like he told me he's like, I really liked that movie last night. He's like, I sat down, I thought I was gonna bounce in five minutes. He's like, I took he's like, I I I liked it a lot. I watched I really want to watch the whole thing. And I was like, me too.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I liked it. I liked it.

SPEAKER_00

I understand.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, okay, cool. Do you want me to say something?

SPEAKER_00

Music was nice.

SPEAKER_03

I loved the music. That theme is beautiful.

SPEAKER_00

That theme is really nice. I don't know who wrote that. We shouldn't look it up.

SPEAKER_03

Caroline's not gonna listen to this, is she?

SPEAKER_00

She will eventually. When we die.

SPEAKER_03

But not before Christmas.

SPEAKER_00

When we die, she'll go back to Christmas.

SPEAKER_03

Because I was thinking we could get her the piano music for Christmas.

SPEAKER_00

Didn't she say she had it? She said she'd played it before. Because I was like, how do you know this music? She's like, Oh, I've I've seen the sheep music.

SPEAKER_03

I don't think we have it, but maybe we do. I'll ask her.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Yeah, check it out.

SPEAKER_03

Uh I'll say a thing now.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, say a thing.

SPEAKER_03

I loved the Carmen Family Murders documentary on Netflix.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I thought that was really interesting. I just didn't know where it was gonna go.

SPEAKER_00

And you want to give a quick rundown of what it's about?

SPEAKER_03

It's about a man who's has he goes out on a boat with his mother. He's rescued at sea, so kind of a boy man. He's a boy man. Um, he's a young man.

SPEAKER_00

He's like a Jesse Plemens type character.

SPEAKER_03

I don't think so. Um and he does have autism, that's pretty central to the to the plot line. But anyway, while he's out on the boat, he you know, that he goes missing and then they rescue him seven days later and he's in a life raft, and he basically has the story that his mother and the boat capsized and the mother went down with the boat. And then they invite they're like so that's how they open it up, but then they I don't want to spoil it because it's not that long.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And it's interesting because it's like the first 30 minutes, it's it's just about the mother. And but it's called the Carmen Family Murders with an S. So I was like, wow, I need to know what else is happening because I don't think that they would make such a big oversight on that if it was just one person.

SPEAKER_00

So Netflix's just best titled.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, uh so if you into if you're into true crime at all, I would definitely recommend that one. It was a good watch.

SPEAKER_00

I enjoyed it. And I'm not I'm I wouldn't say I'm not into true crime, but not like me. It's here's what true crime is like for me. It's like America's America's funniest own videos. Not not because it's that funny. I know what you're gonna do.

SPEAKER_03

Sometimes it is it's like you never think you're gonna want to turn it on.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like I don't really want to watch that. And you sit down and start watching, and you're just like, Oh, I need to know I need to go happen. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so there you go.

SPEAKER_00

It was good. I liked it. I only saw what would you say? I saw two-thirds of it. You saw myself. I'd sit down, you'd catch me up, and you could pick it up. It's yeah. You pick it up, they repeat the same thing.

SPEAKER_03

I'm a good catcher upper.

SPEAKER_00

I will say, uh I'll just say I think he did it.

SPEAKER_03

Thank you.

SPEAKER_00

Did you did you already say that?

SPEAKER_03

Uh no, I didn't investigate. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Sorry, spoilers. Rob thinks he did it.

SPEAKER_03

He's being investigated, so you can decide for yourself whether or not you think he did it or not.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I mean it's just it's just really interesting just because he has autism for sure. Um and so people don't read him the way that, you know they're used to reading people that they're questioning and stuff like that, and it's like how much of that is he's using to his advantage, or it's just the way he is, and he really can never separate it, and just really interesting to watch.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So, alright.

SPEAKER_00

Do you want to uh you want to move on to something?

SPEAKER_03

Oh scary. Robert.

SPEAKER_00

That was my uh that was my Vincent Price voice. I'm not very good at it. It's kind of sounds people say it sounds like a burp.

SPEAKER_03

Some people say that. Um but yeah, well, I I thought it would be a good topic because so here's the part you spoiled earlier. But I'm gonna pretend like you didn't. In the song It's the most wonderful time of the year, they sing there'll be scary ghost stories and tales of the glories of Christmases long, long ago. And other than like the Scrooge, the Christmas Carol, are there is it common that there's a lot of ghost stories around Christmas? Are you leaving?

SPEAKER_00

No, I want to make sure I want to see what time we're we're at this app uh still recording?

SPEAKER_03

Look at that, yep.

SPEAKER_00

Oh okay. Forty minutes in.

SPEAKER_03

We're good. Forty minutes in.

SPEAKER_00

Forty minutes in, Renee. Eat that.

SPEAKER_03

I'll have to tell her that she gets a couple name drops in this app. Um and and you know, we did a crit we're doing a Christmas song. I w I, you know, like a theme. So I thought we could, you know, maybe talk about some spooky stuff today.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like Chris Christmas.

SPEAKER_03

Mysteries and in in in honor of the uh scary ghost stories of Christmas past.

SPEAKER_00

And you had a lot of stuff on that list.

SPEAKER_03

I did, because I didn't want to limit you. I didn't want to box you in. Well So we're kinda going we're kind of going paranormal.

SPEAKER_00

You put aliens, you put demons, ghosts.

SPEAKER_03

The more you listen to stuff that's out there, the more stuff starts to cross over, and you're like, maybe it's all aliens, or maybe it's all Bigfoot, or you know, there is a theory like like Doctor Who.

True Crime Pick: Carmen Family Murders

SPEAKER_00

Everything's always aliens. No, but there's a um I can't I don't remember the details of it, but there is like a kind of a overlapping theory that throughout time, and I'm paraphrasing this like crazy, but throughout time, like all these cryptids and extraterrestrials and fairies and whatever, they all kind of change with the zeitgeist.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

And and so like fairies become aliens. Right.

SPEAKER_03

I understand that.

SPEAKER_00

That sort of thing. Um that's not exactly what I was getting at, but yeah, what I and I don't even know where I'm going with that, but uh it there are like these kind of umbrella views of basically the unexplained.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. So we're talking about the unexplained today.

SPEAKER_00

So how do you want to drive this thing?

SPEAKER_03

I want to just kind of go through our list. I just came up, I thought we could kick it off with what's your favorite scary story you ever heard but you just can't ever forget. And didn't you answer did you answer these questions that I sent you?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I I looked them over and I thought about them.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. So and and why did it stick in your head? And it could been something that happened to you and be like your favorite scary story.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so I was trying to think of something that that happened.

SPEAKER_03

Mine is not something that happened to me.

SPEAKER_00

I have never had I mean, the closest thing, this is hardly worth mentioning, because it's it's it's a you you start to get into issues with with memory and you start to get into Oh, so it's gonna be one of those discussions. Well, I won't get into it too. Well, shoot, yeah. So all this well, okay, let me let me let me just say that. I saw something floating one time when I was a kid.

SPEAKER_03

Ooh, creepy.

SPEAKER_00

It was just in the middle of a vacant lot, and there was a rock.

SPEAKER_03

I think you told me about this.

SPEAKER_00

Rock just floating, and I was just kind of like, I had to get in the car, and I was just looking at that thing and just being like, what is happening?

SPEAKER_03

Like, how big was the rock?

SPEAKER_00

And I'm looking like uh I don't know. A couple inches like a boulder or anything.

SPEAKER_03

Small, big rock.

SPEAKER_00

And it could have been any number of illusions or not illusions, but you know, like my mind playing tricks on me kind of business. Um, but I just remember distinctly being like, that rock is floating.

SPEAKER_03

How old do you think you are?

SPEAKER_00

Uh I know I was going off to we were going to get a poo poo platter at a Chinese restaurant. So young enough slash old enough that I thought that was funny. So somewhere between four and forty-three.

SPEAKER_03

I'd say it was like uh Wait, is this a future story?

SPEAKER_00

I'd say it was like, I don't know. Let's just let's let's call me six. Oh that's seven, something like that.

SPEAKER_03

Six, seven.

SPEAKER_00

Uh but but but the so I've never had any I've never had any paranormal kind of things happen to me.

SPEAKER_03

Did that scare you?

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_03

Did you just think it was weird?

SPEAKER_00

I just thought it was really, really weird. I haven't seen anything like it since. Um I mean it in my memory, it was floating.

SPEAKER_03

Where were you?

SPEAKER_00

We were at some like a cousin's house or something.

SPEAKER_03

And when you say vacant lot, it's just like a house lot like that didn't have a house on it. Like in a neighborhood.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_03

Interesting.

SPEAKER_00

I wanted to get out and actually check it out. No. We'd have been visiting somebody in like uh I don't know, Virginia or South Carolina.

SPEAKER_03

I wish you would have checked it out. It's my biggest regret for your life.

Holiday Pivot: Ghost Stories At Christmas

SPEAKER_00

That's that was one kind of weird thing. I I haven't had so the creepiest things haven't I've never had a paranormal normal thing happen to me, but I've had them happen to the room that I was in while I was in it sleeping. Um John, one of my roommates at so OU, you know, is apparently super haunted. Um stories everywhere about all sorts of stuff. Especially if you get into like the ridges and like the middle institution. But in my room, John said he woke up and saw a girl sitting in the chair staring at him.

SPEAKER_03

Creepy.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Woo-hoo.

SPEAKER_00

And uh for all I know, there probably was an actual girl who just came to our room was staring at us when I was, you know, he was we didn't sleep with our door locked for a lot of y a lot of nights. But I mean, I was in there and uh he swears by it. Uh another time Joel would printed a piece of paper out, and he said it floated across the room and landed upright and on its edge. On its edge, and just chilled there. Now, Joel did a lot of acid, so that could also be it.

SPEAKER_03

Well, maybe that was what was allowing him to see what was really happening.

SPEAKER_00

Well, we could get into that. I mean, uh so here's my kind of over Do you want me to get into like my overarching views? No, not yet. No, okay.

SPEAKER_03

But so those are your tops. Yeah, just stuff like that.

SPEAKER_00

But I've never had, you know, I told you I lived in a haunted house. Like they told said that they heard them all the time, Keith playing the piano and walking around with this dead guy who I you know never heard anything, saw anything. Maybe you're just not a my mom would say I'm I'm protected by the Holy Spirit.

SPEAKER_03

Well, you might be.

SPEAKER_00

I think I might be. I think you are, but I don't even know what that means.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_00

You know, like people act like they know what that means.

SPEAKER_03

Well, like maybe you're the kind of person who has to all has to be protected because you otherwise you'd be like, Well, I need to know more about that, and then you'd fall.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe I got all sorts of theories, you're probably not even more good.

SPEAKER_03

Mine is uh my favorite story that I think I've ever heard that's creepy. I like the the stories that I like that stick in my mind are the ones that can happen, like within the realm of what we already understand, but are just really creepy. And my favorite one, I don't want to give it away too much, but it because it's from I think it's from a radio rental. Um, it's where that kid was playing in the woods with that other little kid.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, with the mom.

SPEAKER_03

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And then realizes as an adult what the real situation was.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's crazy to me. That's so creepy. I don't want to say too much, but if you I I should have looked up what it is, but it's from a it's from an earlier radio rental. And it's someone talking about growing up and meeting up with a friend in the woods.

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah, that's a great one. That's a that's a creepy one. That's a really good one.

SPEAKER_03

Um, and then one that I just heard recently, Radio Rental's my probably my favorite podcast, but they just had one on the other day, which this one's I'll just retell it. Sorry, is that allowed?

SPEAKER_00

Well that's what the conceptor core is.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, okay. That's true.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um these this couple was traveling and they they stopped in bad weather, they'd stopped at a restaurant, and then as they were traveling up and the weather's getting worse and worse, um, the the man was driving and he's like, Something's pushing on my seat, something's pushing on my seat, and she's like, I don't see anything back there, you know, it's just the two of them in their car, but they're just creeping along because the weather's so bad, snow and stuff. Finally, they get they pull over because she's like, I'll I'll see if I can move the stuff, and there's no person in the car. And they like called the police and everything, but they had taken a selfie at the restaurant, and the door to the car was open, and you can see in the selfie this woman getting in their car, and they didn't notice it. And she was like mentally ill, like homeless person, just sick, just kind of a sick person.

SPEAKER_00

But anyway, it's just like that's my favorite kind of thing because it's like uh story with Jeremy, um, the the old woman going into his house and taking all of his stuff. Yeah, and they had him on had her on camera, and like that was that's the wild story.

SPEAKER_03

That's just straight up happened.

SPEAKER_00

So you're talking about you like the creepy people stuff. I do because it's And dip this is different from like because I I got a story about like these four dudes that pulled up behind me and I was in a bad area and I pulled a shotgun out and I didn't pull it on them, but like I just had it. I was it was the biggest bluff of my life. Like I was I don't know what I was thinking. But I put yeah, anyways, but that's that's more of like a that's more of like a scary criminal kind of story.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I I mean any anything can qualify. All right.

SPEAKER_00

And that was to drive around with a shotgun on me, by the way. That's I know different days.

SPEAKER_03

Different times. Um, but yeah, I love I just love things that don't need a paranormal explanation, but they're still creepy as can be. Those are my favorite kind.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

All right, ready for the next question?

SPEAKER_00

That could be a whole topic on itself. Yeah, yeah. The next question.

SPEAKER_03

Do you believe in Bigfoot? Of in of in any capacity, whatever his name is, wherever he might live, just do you believe there is a a large humanoid ape type of uh creature out there?

SPEAKER_00

I'm probably not gonna give a definitive answer unless you force me to. But I I mean I believe in this is lame, but I believe in the possibility of it. I think there's there's even still I mean, obviously we this isn't this is not an ocean question. We all know that. I mean I think I'd say I'm more than likely to believe in some junior version of a megalodon than I am Bigfoot, just because of the unexpl the vastness of the ocean of the unexplored ocean. Uh there's I mean, there's a lot of interesting I've seen anecdotal stuff out there. But they have never found anything.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, wouldn't they find a carcass? Unless they're more intelligent than we think and they're hiding their dead bodies.

SPEAKER_00

But think about all the humans. Think about all the people we find.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Like we you look for a person, like you're gonna I I guess what I'm saying is like we're talking about people who have I mean, how long have legends of Bigfoot been around? Let's just say the contemporary, let's say the last hundred years, fifty years, last fifty years. We got enough folks dedicating their lives to hunting Bigfoot.

SPEAKER_03

They should have found it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Now I know that they have quote unquote found them. You know, people have seen and heard and smelled and have these things and they lost them and they the pictures are gone and all this.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It's always something like that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, well, how could that possibly keep happening?

SPEAKER_00

Now, I that would bring me to a kind of an overarching topic that one thing that I I don't this is gonna sound like it's an obvious thing, and it is, but it's worth mentioning. Something at the very least, something incredibly interesting is happening in general. Yeah. With things like Bigfoot and thing where it's like, let's just say the most imaginative imaginatively conservative, pragmatic viewpoint. You know, somebody, some Snopes author might, their viewpoint. That's even like that that it's all just a combination of lies, public hysteria, and psychological issues. That's still fascinating. Yeah, totally. It's still a thing. That's still like wait, but still like like public hysteria is something that very much interests me. Like there's all those stories of you know the the dancing. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

The sleeping city.

SPEAKER_00

That's a funny story with that, but we don't have time to talk about it's we can when we maybe when we get Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So I I think some something, something is doing something. Remember that? Okay, so then I asked you to to remind yourself about that missing 411 documentary?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Did you?

SPEAKER_00

Remind myself of it?

SPEAKER_03

Like, did you go back and just familiarize with like the Okay, well, let me just ask you this. Do you remember the one story where they were like these just like regular like man's man people and they had that camp up in the mountains and they had all of that audio, like video audio, and it sounded very much like giant Bigfoot type creatures that were up there, and then they never went back, and then the um the government dismantled their camp. Remember that? What was that? I don't know. See that one to me is like, what is that? Because those people were just like regular, like I think some of them are like soldiers, like retired military people. Not that being retired military just makes you like this paragon of virtue. No, but it definitely elevates you to a But I do feel like it would make you keep your mouth shut if you thought someone was gonna make fun of you. And like they're willing to talk about it and not know what it is, and uh and they didn't tell people where the camp was either. Like they had kept it secret.

SPEAKER_00

Is that the one with the old the old guy?

SPEAKER_03

No, that one was that was a hunting, they were just hunting deer and he just disappeared. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

What's the sorry, what's what's the was it Radio Rental, the one that had the I know I'm shifting a bit, but the Wendigo?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that was a radio rental. That was a crazy story.

SPEAKER_00

That was a creepy one. Dude.

SPEAKER_03

That gives me I get like a story, man.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um yeah, that if you haven't seen the missing 411, it's called The Hunted. It was cool. It's a great one. It is cool. It has some really good stuff.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe three, are there like three stores?

SPEAKER_03

I think there's like five or six.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. He tells I saw I think I only saw a couple of them.

SPEAKER_03

It's it tells the some of the it I there's another one, there's only two that are out there that aren't paid for, I think. And I watched them both. One of them was specifically about people who go missing in the national parks, which I'll talk about that in a minute. But this one was people on hunting trips specifically that were things that happened to them.

SPEAKER_00

I will say, and maybe I should have opened with this. I don't think I don't know how to say this without sounding like a lunatic. I don't think that the reality that we know is the real reality. Yeah. I don't I think we're on like the I think we're in I think this is like a Plato's cave kind of situation, or like um uh flatlands, like a 2D, like a 2D world. 2D people living in the 3D world kind of thing. Yes.

SPEAKER_03

Uh so well that brings me to my next two questions together, then I'll say aliens, yes or no. You have to pick one.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. And then are they aliens from the universe as we know it, or are they is this interdimensional stuff?

SPEAKER_00

I am neither would surprise me. I'm all in on extra extra dimensional stuff.

SPEAKER_03

Extra dimensional? It I said inter. What's extra?

SPEAKER_00

Uh whatever. I don't know. Okay. Okay. Uh I I'm I'm a big believer that we are not um again, I use that flatlands. Like that I never actually read that book, have you?

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_00

It's like an old like an eighteen hundreds book about um uh Neil Neil deGrasse Tyson talked, I think he I don't know if he referred to it directly, but he was talking about basically like if we're you know, you draw a stick figure on a paper plate like that's us.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah.

Radio Rental Stories That Linger

SPEAKER_00

You know. Um it I I'm paraphrasing, I don't remember. I don't even know if he said that's us, but he was talking about a certain theory. Uh kind of what it's like to be like extra dimensions, right? So that that is that's you know, cubically speaking, and and the area of time, space-time is that paper plate. This me holding the paper plate is you know the real. It's the you know, uh basically, I mean, if we can start gonna get like the telepathy tapes or something like that. Right, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

If you haven't listened to that, you should.

SPEAKER_00

But um, I mean, personally, I think that like the kingdom of heaven is that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You know, I think it's the bigger picture. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

It's the bigger, more dimensional thing outside.

SPEAKER_00

I I think like the entire Bible was written for the water. Where we do not have yeah, for paper plate people. Where like like the the do you know what like apophat apophatic theology is? It's basically like you can't Joe actually helped me uh learn that one. Um because he I was explaining, trying to explain this, this. Not in terms of like paranormal stuff, but in terms of the the Bible and in terms of like I believe all these things to be true, but I only believe them to be true up into our our ability to understand them. Right. Like I believe that that God exists and created words for us to facilitate us to be proper people as designed, but beyond that we know nothing. And and I think that we're kind of led to that, right? Like to led to like I know it sounds crazy, but people talk about like simulation theory all the time. It's all kind of the same thing. You just we get into semantics, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_03

So back to aliens.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I just want to stay on stay on the spooky paranormal theme and uh explain.

SPEAKER_00

The thing is, though, I think that sort of exp that can easily everything.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Well, f so okay, so I I don't I should have looked up a little bit more about it, but that three eye atlas thing. What if that is? What do you think? Do you think that is, even if it doesn't have life on it, but it is ends up being, you know, steered remotely. What is it? What is it? Is it aliens?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Is it us from the future? Do you believe in time speaking?

SPEAKER_00

Like yesterday's enterprise?

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Is that what that was about? Anyways, um I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

And like I can't even do it justice, but the very, very, very, very small amount that I understand about quantum physics blows my mind to the point where I'm like, yeah, any of this could be true.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_03

Any of this could be true.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Well, this is what I mean, again, I if it's I already sort of said it, but I we both do. You know I do. But for the listeners at home, I'm I believe in the God of Abraham, right? The Yahweh. But I no buts, but yeah, but if you believe that there is a all-powerful, all-knowing, all-loving, all everything, omni omni-fill-in-the-blank being, for lack of a better word, if you believe that, um the thing that one of the things that drives me nuts is when people say, like, oh, it's just that's just the way God does it. Not like, and and yeah, ultimately we have to, we have to, we have to come to that. But to say it flippantly, like dismissing somebody else's concerns that they might like, that's I think the probably the thing that drives like atheists so insane. Uh, and I get it, uh, because it drives me insane as a Christian, but like when somebody's just like, oh well, that's just the way God does it. But like, okay, but if you accept that there's someone, something, a for lack of a better word, an entity that can do all these things, knows everything, has been around, lives outside of time, all this stuff, then you have to accept that there is infrastructure in place that would allow for him to do all these things.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_00

Like, there at some point there has to be a physical manifestation.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

Bigfoot, Missing 411, And The Woods

SPEAKER_00

Even if none of the even if all this is just paper plate living, there still has to be some sort of interface for it. So in order for that to happen, sorry, in order for that, if if if you accept that to be true, then my goodness, it could be anything. You know, like it's like what I was trying to explain to my dad. Like, if you if you believe in angels and demons, which I know you do, father, then what do you okay, what let's just let's just pretend there isn't a name for that, right? Because we've called it thousands of things over the years. If we just happen in this language to call it ink angels and demons, but like okay, so you're accepting that there's another dimension. You're not saying this, but you are accepting this that there is another dimension with other life forms that are not humans but are sentient and and have powers that we don't have.

SPEAKER_03

And can come in here and That's paranormal.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah I don't care what you call whatever you want, but it's like the some semantics drive me absolutely insane and I think we people get into fights and kill each other over it. But I think it's all sort of the same thing.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. So kind of on Sorry to turn this into like a religious podcast, but it you know, I'm I'm Well, I mean, I can kind of bring it back to that in a second, but what about dreams? So I know you hate dreams, and you I mean, I hate dreams, but you don't like listening to other people's dreams, which who does telling, like especially like if you have a little kid that's like uh just discovered that they can tell you about their dreams and you have you're stuck listening to something that you're just like, ugh, four-year-old dreams, I don't want to hear it. I think I don't want to hear anyone's dreams, really. But my question is there's so much like unknown stuff about our sleep. Um to me, like dreams are terrifying, even the non, you know, just dreams, just like random, silly stuff. Um of course I find nightmares to be terrifying. Yeah, I've had worse ones than that one.

SPEAKER_00

Anything involving a child.

SPEAKER_03

Anything having a child. Watch over a child. Does a child die? You're just so quotable. Um we should start making her shirts for Christmas.

SPEAKER_00

What's up with your shirt?

SPEAKER_03

Why are you wearing a shirt that says does a child die? Just for context, Robert. Just don't want to watch things. Oh, that's right. Yeah. We look we need like a children's chorus.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, a dead children.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So I find I find dreams creepy because I'm like, what if it's like a thing where you get you're getting a glimpse of something that's happening to like another version of yourself somewhere else. And that creeps me out. And then I was just listening today to there's another podcaster that he's kind of hokey, but he's he has a pretty good show, long-running show. His name's Jim Harold. He has Jim Harold's Campfire, where people call in and tell their scary stories. It's like usually like ghost stories or dreams or um aliens, lights in the sky, all kinds of different stuff like that. And they're I would say one out of four is really good. And so it's just enough to keep you listening. Like if you're driving for two hours, you might like you know a handful of the stories, and it's just people calling in. And then he also has one called the Paranormal, Jim Harold's Paranormal podcast, I think is all it's called. But anyway, he was interviewing this lady today. She calls herself a modern mystic, and she's an author, she's got a lot of nonfiction, but she talks a lot about dreams, and she was saying that uh we're psychic beings having a human experience. Which I feel like w in the rel in a Christian context makes a lot of sense because right now we're in these, you know, if you believe in that, you're trapped in this human body, and when you die and you go to eternity.

SPEAKER_00

It's the ultimate dream. Well No, but seriously, like I I go continue your thoughts, sorry.

SPEAKER_03

Well, but I was just saying that that actually makes a lot of sense. And she was just saying that she's of course very into dream interpretation and all that stuff, and she had like written a uh a fiction book that I might go read called Nightborn. It's supposed to be kind of scary, like a thriller. She says it's paced like a Dan Brown novel, so if you've ever read any of those, you might like it. I don't know. I'll read it and let you know, I guess.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, let me know.

SPEAKER_03

Um but she was just saying that dreams are pre-cognitive.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Which would be like you dream something happens, and then later something like that has does happen, which I my mom said, like my grandma did that several times. She wouldn't dream that something was gonna happen, and like one time she literally caught my mom sneaking out.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

She had dreamed that my mom was gonna do it, and then she did, and she caught her because she had that information. And so this this lady, I think her name is I wrote down her name. Let me look Teresa. Hold please, hold please.

SPEAKER_00

Didn't she dream that um like there were like a bunch of like skinny cows that ate a bunch of fat cows?

SPEAKER_03

See?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Teresa Chung, C-H-E-U-N-G, see who she is. I mean, I don't know that much about her, but and she was just saying, like, you can it's also not necessarily like pre-cog like you can predict the future, but like our brains are programmed to look for order and to look for meaning and to look for things and to anticipate something that's gonna happen, which is why like intuition, you know, like you're it's kind of like that gift of fear book where you're you are looking for meaning in things, and so you it but then when you go to bed at night and your brain's processing all of that stuff, it's creating scenarios that then when they happen it's because you are collecting information that you know putting it together. I mean it's crazy. It's an interesting thought.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, all the you know, the you know, they say like the entire like universe is structured just like some very similarly to how the brain is structured.

SPEAKER_03

And you know the Well, and I have another question. Sorry I keep interrupting. Well, I didn't let you interrupt me.

SPEAKER_00

But I it's it's for the best. I was gonna I every single one of these things I could take you way into space.

SPEAKER_03

So I have an outline.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um but the other thing I wanted to know is like when you think about like ghosts or demons or like people in haunted houses where they like just terrible things happen, then there's not no explanation for why. Um how much of that stuff do you think we manifest? Like a even though it's real, it's really happening, how much of it is just caused by something that you're not letting go of?

Aliens Or Dimensions? Both

SPEAKER_00

You're saying like like uh like hypothetically, a a person who is living in a quote unquote haunted house is actually just kind of in a is a perfect storm kind of person who is able to have these sort of telekinetic incidental powers.

SPEAKER_03

More like the life they're leading is just they've either had a lot of trauma or they're the last one that my my dad listens to. Your mom will force them to force them into something further. But like they're either it's something it's something that that they have internalized that would be something negative.

SPEAKER_00

Uh I I I can't say no to anything.

SPEAKER_03

I know. But I don't I Well when you think about like the power of positive thinking and how much your life does actually change when you practice gratitude, like you've done for a while.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_03

Um recommended gratitude journal. What is a journalist? Yes. And and uh, you know, the uh just like trying not to just just working through like things aren't about you and just like trying to find the good and everything and all that kind of stuff, like that really changes your life. And you're literally manifesting a better life for yourself because of the cognitive patterns you're trying to develop. So who's to say that by just making worse and worse and worse choices or having horrible things have happened to you that you don't deal with doesn't manifest some some of this other crazy stuff that happens to people. I I or opens them up for demons.

SPEAKER_00

There's a lot of demon attacks. There's pretty much every world religion and even non-religious folks who are maybe a little bit in more on the woo-woo side have a version of that. You know, give to the universe and it gives back, and that's sort of or you know, from a Christian perspective, prayer and and I all these things are centered around not focusing on yourself. And by focusing on and and if you think about what dreams are, we're just talking right out of our butts right now.

SPEAKER_03

No one's coming here for like PhD like that.

SPEAKER_00

When you're not dream when you're dreaming, you are for I mean, from what I know about dreaming anyway, the your external stimuli is pretty much dead. Yeah. Like you're like literally paralyzed.

SPEAKER_03

No signal, no signals are coming in.

SPEAKER_00

Your your executive function is non-existent. I mean, as far as I know anyway. I'm sure it's online, but it's different.

SPEAKER_03

It's down.

SPEAKER_00

So basically you are in a you are dead to yourself, right? Um I kind of think that dreams might possibly be the uh us trying to reconcile this three-dimensional world that I'm talking about. Not the three-dimensional world, but in comparison to the 2D one we're living in. I don't know how I'll start. Us trying to visualize life outside of Plato's cave. Yeah. I think we're trying to make sense of the shadows, if you're familiar with that analogy, and and that these crazy chaotic stuff is just us not quite being equipped to handle it. But and I think that death is where you break off of like I said, death is like the ultimate dream.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Where when you die, you no longer have a body to hold you down anymore.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So you are free. Whatever, yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_03

Well, you want me to tell you my scary dream story?

SPEAKER_00

Sure.

SPEAKER_03

I already told you, but I'll tell it. It was when we went to my uncle's funeral. Remember that story?

SPEAKER_00

I remember being your uncle's funeral.

SPEAKER_03

Well, when we got to the hotel, uh, we had gone to our we had gone to my cousin's house, and everybody was out, all the kids were outside playing, and then we got to the hotel and the kids were sharing a uh pullout bed, and we were all starting to drift off, and the kids were like, something's crawling on me, and then we turned on the lights and they all had like there were ticks all over their bed. Remember that? They both had ticks on them, and then I took the sheets off, and there were like two or three more ticks, and I was just like, ugh, I just had a terrible feeling. Plus, his death was just sad anyway. I mean, death is sad, but this was one of those ones that was just particularly sad. Oh, Gruber's here. Can you see him in the camera? Gruber's our dog.

SPEAKER_00

Some Hans.

SPEAKER_03

He's feeling lonely. Hey, bud. Anyway, so then I was as I was, you know, I don't sleep well the first night whenever we're somewhere else ever. It doesn't matter how great the conditions are, but then I was creeped out by the ticks. And um I fell asleep, but I had a I I you know, was I dreaming? Who knows? But I was unable to I had this sense that something came and sat down by the bed and held my arms straight out and would not let my arms.

SPEAKER_00

I remember you telling me this, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And it was several minutes where I was just like re in my dream, I was thought I was awake, but I was refusing to look over there to see what it was, and I but I couldn't move my arms. And then when I woke up, I didn't want to wake everyone else up and scare everyone, so I had to like lay there. And what I always do when I have bad dreams is sing hymns, because hymns have scripture. And uh, if you can't think of scripture, you could just sing hymns because you're singing scripture and music therapizing yourself. Music therapizing myself. Um and then I didn't want to tell anyone the next day because I don't want the kids to hear me and be scared.

SPEAKER_00

But I did tell this kind of stuff freaks Clark out, by the way.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, don't listen to this, Clark. Too late. Not that he listens, not that not that our kids give a crap about what we're doing anymore. They're just like, Are you done yet so I can be loud? Um, but anyway, the but the thing that really made it the creepiest was when uh I did tell my oldest sister the next day, and she was like, you know, I wasn't gonna say anything, but when I got to the hotel, we were all staying in the same hotel, she's like, My room just felt bad, and I just played a lot of praise music and said a lot of prayers, and and I was just like, Okay, that's creepy. It's just creepy because I'm nothing like those things don't happen to me. I don't walk into rooms and feel creeped out by stuff. But I don't know what it was. It was just like, but then back to my original thing, like it was a sad time. The bugs were creeping me out, and it's like, does that kind of stuff just you cause it? You're causing it?

SPEAKER_00

I don't I see what you're saying, yeah. I maybe.

SPEAKER_03

So, like whether it's real, it's really something really happened, but is it just you know, all something you've created based on your experience? Um well, there's one other thing I was gonna say about that. I forgot.

Dreams, Faith, And The Bigger Picture

SPEAKER_00

It's just dreams, I think, are dreams. I I I do think there is a ton. The reason I say I don't like dreams is just because it's like mostly dumb. You're gonna hear about somebody's you're gonna hear about something, it's gonna be really exciting, and you're gonna be like, oh yeah, that's right. That didn't really happen. Yeah, like I'm sure that's the way a lot of people feel about like science fiction. They're like, wow, this is a crazy book. It's the oh, this is all nonsense. No, it's like your brain, but your brain just can't, it can't do it. It can't, it can't join that make that bridge, right? I get it.

SPEAKER_03

Um Well, that lady that I was talking about, that author, she was like, it's just it breaks my heart when I hear people just dismiss it and say, well, it was just a dream.

SPEAKER_00

But I do think dreams, I think dreams in I think just the existence of dreams are almost an object lesson. Like I think that it's oh man, I I probably I I got a whole thing that ties like Job into it and all sorts of stuff. But basically, I think that like I I think that dreams almost I I do think dreams serve a purpose. I'm not saying I'm not dismissing anything we've talked about so far, and then of course the actual like whatever the medical explanation is for dreams, which no one really knows that much about dreams, honestly. Everybody's just got a bunch of well-constructed theories. But I think it is like in in in a sense, like this is pretty meta, but like an object lesson saying that there is more to our existence than our existence.

SPEAKER_02

Like we know.

SPEAKER_00

Like, kind of like in the sense of like in the way that like real life, like you know, the life that we know, you know, the the one here we are right now, sitting and talking, that life the way that bleeds in two dreams.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Like, was it a Vol style? Yeah. You know, we're like, you were there, and you were there. Like, I think that that is like kind of like God's way of telling us that we are there's way more to the picture, right? And I think that's why they're so featured in the Bible and then and probably other religious texts as well. Uh but it's all very it's all super interesting to me. I think there's a whole lot to be said about dreams. I've actually written a lot on them. Um just personal journaling and whatnot. Yeah. But I think it all kind of ties into the bigger picture. I think it is our gateway to the bigger picture.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I hate other than I hate having them. I I don't feel self-serving. I don't feel as though I've rested when I wake up and can recall dreams. And I think that's just a mental game. Like I'm sure I'm rested because I think you dream every single night, whether you recall it or not. Um all right, I'm gonna switch to. Topics. Are you ready?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I'll probably bring it back to dreams, but go ahead.

SPEAKER_03

You sure can if you want. Conspiracy theories.

SPEAKER_00

Oh man. I I mean I'm just not. This whole realm.

SPEAKER_03

So let's stay on.

SPEAKER_00

We're talking like JFK or Sure, anything.

SPEAKER_03

But let's let's let's quick let's stay on the on the uh let's stay on the topic of like Area 51. Yeah, sure. But I was thinking back to that um the national parks disappearances and just like the sheer volume of people that have gone missing in national parks. And furthermore, there are cave systems under all of these national parks. And like what's going on? What's that's that's it's not really a conspiracy theory, but it's a theory that's like And it's like why was there always like two suburbans and associated with this story?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like these uh there's a satellite that's put up that wasn't there before. Yeah, that kind of stuff.

SPEAKER_03

Or like people, like mystery people come in and take over the investigation of their missing loved one and stuff. Um what was the one that I was asking you about the boots?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Do you remember enough about that to retelling?

SPEAKER_00

I just remember it was like a guy who was a backpacker. Guy went missing, no explanation, no trace. Only the only thing that were found was like just basically material possessions, but they were separated by like miles and miles of terrain. Yeah. And just gone, they'll be and just like showed up. His left boot would be there nine miles away from his belt. Or something like that. Yeah. It'd be like, and this guy was like pretty old and I don't think he was old.

SPEAKER_03

Was he? I don't know. I think he was no, I think it was odd because he was like an experienced with age.

SPEAKER_00

But it was it was it's again, it's one of those things it's like, okay, let's just say there's a perfectly practical explanation for it.

SPEAKER_03

What is it?

SPEAKER_00

What is it?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And it's still gonna be pretty wild. Like it's still gonna be a crazy, crazy story, even if it's just all you know, life as we know it.

SPEAKER_03

Um yeah, there can any conspiracies that aren't necessarily paranormal related.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, you find out about the you know, conspiracies that wound up being, you know, having some truth to them, like um Tuskegee or uh I don't know that one. Like the Tuskegee Airmen or MKUltra or you know, like the government is up to some crap. And you go not even the US government.

SPEAKER_03

I wrote, definitely don't trust the government.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, don't, no, don't. Don't trust anybody.

SPEAKER_03

I trust you.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean trust people, but like you gotta trust someone.

SPEAKER_03

You gotta have a healthy dose of skepticism, the bigger the power. The more power someone has, you gotta kind of just wonder about it.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I'll die on the I don't trust the government at all.

SPEAKER_00

And no, I don't outright fight them on anything. I mean, I certainly choose my battles, and so far I have not choose.

SPEAKER_03

You haven't choosed that. You haven't choosed any of those battles.

SPEAKER_00

But like uh I can think of a battle you might wish to do. I I just know that like one thing I will say about conspiracy theories is I think the government wishes they were part no when I say the government, I just mean I think that there are these groups of powerful, you know, cloak and dagger type situational folks who who I bet they wish they were doing more stuff like that. Like I think they want to. Yeah. I don't but I in in every you know, I've worked I've had the pleasure of working in a lot of different environments, both public and private sector. And no one my gosh, I mean I was just talking about this in my evaluation. You know, my boss asked me what you know what what we could stand to improve on. I'm like, same answer for every company I've ever worked for, communication. Do we do not talk to each other? Humans are incapable of doing these things.

SPEAKER_03

I think it requires humility that as a rule a lot of people.

SPEAKER_00

If the government is up to conspiracies that are, you know, on this level of alien, hide hiding aliens and hiding Bigfoot or whatever.

SPEAKER_03

But they're getting some help though. Yeah.

Conspiracies, Government, And Disclosure

SPEAKER_00

Like they're they've they've they have they they're not regular people. Because regular people suck and they cannot get their crap together. They're just gonna blow it. They can't hide they all have sociopathy, sociopathy, even still, we we've we've had the fine pleasure of being being close to sociopaths, and and uh I I know I have, and they eventually fall apart, unravel. They do. And these folks have not unraveled, at least in this these big, you know, huge target conspiracy theories that we're talking about.

SPEAKER_03

Well, there's I haven't I wanted I was hoping to watch it before we recorded this, but there's just no way that um I guess I'm just saying, real quick, just to put a bow on it.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think humans are capable of conspiracy theories at the of the levels that we're discussing without some sort of extra something, whether it be a piece of technology or a divine intervention or whatever that would allow them to do it. But on their own, I think like the the Tower of Babel is is is uh says a lot more than just a bunch of people that try to build a tower. I think it's a object and again another object lesson of humans suck at coordinating things, yeah, especially things they don't want people to know. Oh, whoa, creepy.

SPEAKER_03

It's like being a trick with me the other day. The other day we were at church and Rol's phone.

SPEAKER_00

How much of this was it listening to? I don't know. Speaking of conspiracy, no doubt.

SPEAKER_03

See, that's a that's a real thing. Larry Page That's not even a conspiracy, that's a provable thing that your phone is listening to you. Um I remember the first time that ever happened. Do you remember that? The first time I ever noticed it. We were at the beach, okay, and I was talking about uh young adult dystopian novels. Just with you. We were literally on the beach, and my phone was just in our bag, and we were just talking about that. And I went back, opened up Pinterest, and everything on my feed was like recommending these books, and I was like, what that was like 15 years ago?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. That was a long time ago. I think it was Baldhead, so um, before Cape Fear was shot.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. It was shot at Bald Island.

SPEAKER_00

Well, uh Cape Fear is probably by Baldhead Island.

SPEAKER_03

But was it actually shot then? Weekend of Bernie's and Weekend of Bernie's was actually shot about it. Um, that's this documentary that I wanted to watch that we didn't get to watch yet. I will be talking about Consumption Corner, is the Age of Disclosure. Is that so it's about the U I means this guy goes and interviews all these high-ranking government officials who are willing to go on camera and say what they've seen, all this alien technology, but part of it overlaps with the government conspiracies because they're doing it all without any oversight and spending money that they have no accountability. So it's like the ultimate combination of alien conspiracy, government cover-up, and then government spending of the of civilian dollars, taxpayers' money at work with nobody. Yeah. Well, and it's just like they because the he was on Joe Rogan and they were talking about like they just need to have amnesty for these people so that they can because if nobody wants to go on record because they're the crimes against the country. But if they give them amnesty, then they can release this information more comfortably without going to prison for stealing from the United States.

SPEAKER_00

Who's giving them amnesty?

SPEAKER_03

They were just saying they need to, I'm assuming the government.

SPEAKER_00

I see. I see what you're saying. There needs to be like some sort of whistleblower type.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, protection for the yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Gotcha.

SPEAKER_03

But it's just I really want to watch it, I'm really excited about it. I'm just gonna do that.

SPEAKER_00

Again, I do think just there is I mean, my m m I mean They're out there. I want to talk I I d uh I don't even yeah. I could talk honestly, I could talk for hours about why I think our existence is not what we think it is. But I mean that's kind of that is of all the things that I believe, that is probably the biggest one, right? Like which is wild to say actually say that I believe that is very crazy. But and and I do it's not like I walk around having the I still have to like go to work, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's what I was gonna say, which brings us to our song.

SPEAKER_00

But I could get it, yeah. Okay, let's do that.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm. Because uh the song is it's baby, it's cold outside. And it's you know, it's just a common everyday mundane things, you know. It's cold outside, they went on a date, she's ready to go home, he wants her to stay. Uh uh enter, you know, the the era of I don't even know what you want to call it, where they uh canceled that song, the cancelled era. So they canceled that song a couple years ago.

SPEAKER_00

Was it canceled? I remember I remember being you you're way more in tune with stuff than I am.

SPEAKER_03

Um but I'm not seeking it out just so everyone knows. Like you said, kind of rapey.

SPEAKER_00

I don't mean to laugh at that.

SPEAKER_03

Uh however, she does stay for a drink and a cigarette.

SPEAKER_00

So I mean, who's right, so it was written from what I could tell, by Frank Looser? I would say Lesser. Lesser? Yeah. Okay, let's go with that.

SPEAKER_03

L-O-E-S-S-E-R. I think when you have those two vowels together, usually you might pronounce the second one if it's German.

SPEAKER_00

He wrote it in in apparently he wrote it in 1944.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm. And then they put it in a movie.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, Neptune's Daughter, 1949. But he wrote it, he and his wife used to sing it when they'd have guests over.

SPEAKER_03

Apparently Was it like the it's time for you to leave? It's time for you guys to leave.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And so, you know, that doesn't necessarily I mean, of course, if like all the stuff that we sing in our kitchen when we're by ourselves, like yeah, we sing some creepy, weird, messed up stuff. Like, so that's so it's not exactly a reason of why that's not what the original intent was.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

The Song: Baby It’s Cold Outside

SPEAKER_00

But we do kind of get into this. First of all, I just think that's a funny story about it's about where it started. But there's something, and I'm not I'm not giving anybody a pass. I realize that there's some creepiness going on, like Ricardo Montebon touching the what's her face's knee, and you know, and yeah, for sure. But like the whole you know I'm fascinated by like the evolution of language, yes and in terms like John McWarter, in and uh who's a professor, professor, professor of language, or I don't know what you want to call him. He's he's I I think he's fascinating. I think he's super interesting. Um he talks about the term making love. He talks about what it meant sixty years ago was made may basically like flirting, like like literally making love, like ro like courting, like romantic gestures and that sort of thing. And now it means something, you know, quite quite uh a bit more carnal, right?

SPEAKER_03

Gotcha.

SPEAKER_00

I gotta think that there is some of that going on.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yes, and the song's essentially 80 years old now.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like like what's in this drink, like I don't think it's like a roofing, like like a like uh picture pages, you know, like a Bill Cosby situation. I think it's like uh not that he did that on picture pages as far as I know, but like I think it's probably more like a plausible deniability kind of thing, where she's like, hey, what's in this drink? I I can't be blamed for whatever decisions I'm about to make. Again, that's not me victim blame or anything like that, because nothing happened, right? And by the way, and it's a song, but I've thought a lot about it because I one thing I thought was I found interesting was that what's his name, Red Red Skeleton? Yeah. I didn't know that in this song it has an immediate counterpart of a of a woman singing it to a man. Like the woman is.

SPEAKER_03

That was just in the movie, though. That wasn't the original. Pretty sure that that was they did that in the movie. But still, but still it was it was contemporary to when it was written.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, yeah. And and I g it's all I think I guess my my whole thing, I don't mean to like come in hot on this. I just think I think it's probably a lot lighter than everybody thinks it is. This is kind of tongue in cheek. Trying to like apply today's culture to something that existed a long time ago.

SPEAKER_03

Also, they already went out. It's not like he's like kidnapping her. Yeah, it's like the end of the day.

SPEAKER_00

Also, she's totally down.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Like, I think the I think it's it's probably the biggest issue in the whole song is probably more of like a wake up a little Susie kind of situation where they're just worried about what people are gonna think. Yeah, you know, like I really think that's what it's about, honestly.

SPEAKER_03

But song wake up the day.

SPEAKER_00

I love the Everlade Brothers, but that's probably one of my least favorite Everly Brothers songs.

SPEAKER_03

I just remember it because my mom used to sing it because she has a sister called that.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah. So why'd you choose it?

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I've been wanting to sing that with you for so long.

SPEAKER_00

Did it I this song was this is the toughest song I've done.

SPEAKER_03

Since we started this?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Because I don't know it that well. I mean, I've heard it a million times, but I've never paid any attention to it. I've heard like Dean Martin's version. What's the version, Johnny Mercer?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

What are all the women who sing these parts with them? I I'm sorry I know all the dudes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I don't remember any of them either.

SPEAKER_00

Um we listened to Tom Jones. Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_03

It's the other crazy lady.

SPEAKER_00

Cirus uh what's her name?

SPEAKER_03

Cloud? Cirrus Cloud?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's Cumulus, I think. Oh, Cumulan Nimbus. That's that was it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Cumulinimbus.

SPEAKER_00

No, she was uh like a Welsh singer. That was great.

SPEAKER_03

It was ridiculous.

SPEAKER_00

It was absurd. It was what I wanted it to be.

SPEAKER_03

If you haven't seen that, you guys are.

SPEAKER_00

It's like Tom Jones in some late 90s computer hellscape situation where she's in a cage.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And like he's just full-blown sex bomb Tom Jones going at it. It looks like a scene from Little Nikki or something. It's just like so stupid. But it's great. It's everything I wanted it to be.

SPEAKER_03

And it's kind of jazzy and fun. And I mean it's it's uh musical adjacent, I would say.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, but like like a musical.

SPEAKER_03

Like it's has it has the bones of a song from a musical. Because it's you know, it's not um like you can't sing it alone.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you can't.

SPEAKER_03

Because I've wanted to practice alone. I've w I've wanted to. But it really you really need both parts.

SPEAKER_00

And the cues happen like at the end of the overlapping phrases. Yeah, the phrases it's really tricky to practice by yourself.

SPEAKER_01

It is.

SPEAKER_00

And and all the jazz chords. Like I played it on guitar. If you listen to the recording, I played like half of the song because I took it out.

SPEAKER_03

I was like, that went really well, and you were like, well, I only played half of it. I was like, oh.

SPEAKER_00

Well, it's just uh you get I I don't know it too well, and I don't know going between F sharp or freaking boy, we played it in F, right? So uh F to F to F major seven to F six to F9 to adding all those adding tones, yeah. Going in and out of all those, and then while also trying to find the lyrics on the page and you know make sure I'm singing into the mic and I'm all cramped up in this freaking closet.

SPEAKER_03

You guys it was a miracle, I think.

SPEAKER_00

Stay tuned, the closet's gonna come to an end. If I could just sing that song, like with a mic, yeah, I think I could do it.

SPEAKER_03

Well, see that's how I feel about like singing is my very favorite thing to do, and anytime I get the chance to just sing is very freeing. But I almost never get to because no one knows how to play instruments anymore. So I'm always the person that's like, I'll play the piano.

SPEAKER_00

If I just played guitar on that, I think. One or the other would have been better. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, I feel that way a lot about my performances. Like, I'm sure like everybody's like, yeah, everyone out there that's an amazing musician can do both without worry, but I'm not a headline and you know, A-list musician.

SPEAKER_00

Also, did I mean when I practiced that we practiced that song a couple times?

SPEAKER_03

You practiced it more than me.

SPEAKER_00

I did, but I've played it before. Yeah. And and you read music.

SPEAKER_03

And I read music.

SPEAKER_00

I do not. So Yeah, you were like, you're doing so well.

SPEAKER_03

And I'm like, well, I'm just reading it. I'm literally just reading it. And I'm on the piano, which I'm more comfortable with.

SPEAKER_00

But is it tricky? Is it tricky? I could not play that guy. It's the toughest song we've done so far.

SPEAKER_03

I could not play that on the guitar without a lot of practice, if that makes you feel better.

SPEAKER_00

Makes me feel fine.

SPEAKER_03

But I loved it, and I would love to do it again sometime where you're feeling more comfortable and singing a bit more um hilariously.

SPEAKER_00

I I wanted to, I wanted to, I wasn't, I didn't know it well enough to. I really want to go, um, dun dun, your hair looks so what's it? What's the word what's the word?

SPEAKER_03

Something like ice.

SPEAKER_00

I'll take your hat, your hair looks well. I want to say, it puts the lotion on its skin.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I wanted to know.

SPEAKER_00

Go ahead, shows your balls.

SPEAKER_03

I don't wonder what they're singing. Oh, yeah, pretty good.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. There's that, it's there's so for the listeners at home. The the what's the name of that ride? Splash Mountain.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's gone now.

SPEAKER_00

The pretty good show is your born. My brother and I, every time we wrote it, we'd always sing Pretty Good, Show As Your Balls, and we'd just laugh. The whole song, we'd be like the whole time we'd just be yelling it in the middle of the ride. And uh, but there's there's that am I saying to right those intervals that kind of match that same thing?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I mean I think it is, it's the same melodic line.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, or it's uh um it goes to the E seven.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, E flat.

SPEAKER_00

E flat, I'm not even gonna try.

SPEAKER_03

Dun dun dun.

SPEAKER_00

At the end, toward the end. Um baby don't hold out. Yeah. Yeah. It's anyways, it's show us your balls somewhere in there.

SPEAKER_03

Somewhere's in there. I think it's your part that goes da-da da da dum, and then we go back. It's like it brings us back around to the ball.

Versions We Love And Why

SPEAKER_00

But that's another thing, but then I have to do the um baby, it's called outside.

SPEAKER_03

You mean sing harmony?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it was a chromatic kind of like that's all of this was very foreign to me.

SPEAKER_03

Pushing yourself, Rob.

SPEAKER_00

I'm growing.

SPEAKER_03

You are proud of you.

SPEAKER_00

I'm growing.

SPEAKER_03

I only wanted to murder you like a little bit when we were practicing this the other day.

SPEAKER_00

What what part? Or like what what about what made you want to murder me?

SPEAKER_03

I just wanted you to read what was on the page. And you just wanted to tell me why you couldn't do it. And I just wanted to hit you in the face. I was like, the chords are right here. What do you think I'm doing? You're like, well, I'm looking at it I'm like, well then can you just look at this? Can we just look at the same music? And I was telling that to my sister, my mom. My sister's like, you're mean. I'm like, well, that isn't news.

SPEAKER_00

You I mean, it's it's one reason. It's that same reason is why I like to play with you, uh, especially at band practice at like a church, because you uh give good instruction and you're there's no second guessing. No one no one no one's sitting there wondering what you want.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_00

I don't you know It makes you s people don't respond well to it, especially some people, but it is what an effective leader is, and you're a good leader.

SPEAKER_03

Thanks. I don't have secret knowledge though. It's just Right. It's just a language, I guess I know.

SPEAKER_00

You you're sick of people. I I the one of my favorite stories is uh you know Steve Ray Vaughn, or listening to Steve Ray Von Texas Flood, I think, and it was like a remastered version where he's talking on it and he says, Well, since I can't read music, and Leslie's like he's talking about the way he plays by ear. And Leslie's like, that's you know, BS. He can read music, he chooses not to learn. He just chose not to learn.

SPEAKER_03

I have big feelings about certain things.

SPEAKER_00

Like, I chose not to learn too.

SPEAKER_03

I know we're breaking up. All right, do we want to talk B sides and dream covers, or do you have anything else you want to say about that?

SPEAKER_00

Oh boy, did I have other things? I really liked uh Ricardo Modelbank I liked uh I wanted to hear him scream. Khan at the end of it. Have you ever seen uh you ever see Rathicon?

SPEAKER_03

I don't think so. Would my dad have oh yeah?

SPEAKER_00

Um or the night I think it was it was in the original series. There was an episode. Rath of con came out of I'm talking about did I say I was talking about Star Trek? Okay, so it came out of it has nothing to do with this. You know what? I probably shouldn't.

SPEAKER_03

But that's that's okay.

SPEAKER_00

So you know you in uh what's what are we watching? Strange New Worlds? Yeah. Who's the security girl?

SPEAKER_03

Uh yeah, I know Dark Woman.

SPEAKER_00

She's one of Khan's people. Right, right. Right. So did you get the Noon Singh or is that what it is?

SPEAKER_03

Yep, that's her last name, but what's her first name?

SPEAKER_00

Say I don't know. I don't know. She's not in the song. She can sing though. The musical, the musical episode of uh Star Trek. Maybe we should do that one. Oh my gosh. I got it.

SPEAKER_03

The whole episode, we should just do the whole episode. We should just sing entire episode.

SPEAKER_00

Well, cover it.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah, I thought that's what you meant.

SPEAKER_00

No, I meant like talk about it. Like over the entire episode. Um it's what's your favorite version?

SPEAKER_03

That one that I liked, the Johnny Mercer one.

SPEAKER_00

Johnny Mercer one. I think Tom Jones is my favorite one.

SPEAKER_03

Well, that was fun. Had a lot of fun with that.

SPEAKER_00

What other ones did what's the uh what's the frozen Josh Gadd? No, no, no, no, no, no, no. She's got a heck of a voice.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I Adina Menzel or Kristen Chenoweth?

SPEAKER_00

She did it with Michael Buble.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I thought it was good. I like Michael Buble. It's uh Does Harry Conick have a version out there with somebody?

SPEAKER_00

I'm sure. I'm sure. There's no way he didn't. Uh Will Farrell and uh Zoe De Chanel.

SPEAKER_03

Um is that from Elf?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

That's cute.

SPEAKER_00

I would like to.

SPEAKER_03

I thought you were gonna say the girl that he does wedding singer, the wedding group with on Saturday Night Live.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, Sherry O'Terry?

SPEAKER_03

No, no, no. It's like on a uh on a gas star.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah. Also I thought you were gonna say it for sometimes when I'm when I'm watching, when I'm doing the editing and watching us, I I I can't help but think of Wolf and a Cast Star.

SPEAKER_03

Like, what are we doing? I feel like that like regularly at work. Like, what am I doing?

SPEAKER_00

Uh whatever, who cares? None of this is real anyway. We're all just a freaking paper plate.

SPEAKER_03

That's right, we're just paper plate people.

SPEAKER_00

We're just paper plate people.

SPEAKER_03

We're like that Sesame Street where that guy lives on the glass.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I love that dude. Me too. And he lives in the cabinet and he kind of drops down and goes, Yeah, that guy's awesome.

SPEAKER_03

Um a lot of Sesame Street references.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, well, it's aging ourselves.

SPEAKER_03

Uh or dating ourselves.

SPEAKER_00

We can move on to We can move on. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. All right.

SPEAKER_00

I I've really struggled with B-side, but I uh uh Should we should we explain real quick that we we got some categories of of the songs that we do and we kind of like to have some fun with it. So that's what this is. We'll be the perfect B-side for. I struggled with it.

SPEAKER_03

What'd you come up with?

SPEAKER_00

Well, the first thing that came to mind is not what I'm gonna pick, but I'll mention it. Okay. Are you familiar with um I Can Tell by the 504 Boys?

SPEAKER_01

You ain't gotta say too much by the look in your body.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. Kind of thought about that. That's not gonna get I'm not gonna choose that.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Uh it's a good one though.

SPEAKER_00

Is it a good one? Is it? I thought uh Slow Boat to China, you know that song? Oh, I didn't know. It's a Frank Lesser song.

SPEAKER_03

Oh wow.

SPEAKER_00

And Caroline and I, it's another kind of Caroline and I were listening to it in the car. I was listening to like 40s on four or something on yeah. And it's about I want to get you on a slow boat to China all to myself.

SPEAKER_03

Oh wow.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I guess we were making up lyrics to it, and they're just very like very Buffalo Bill Science of the Lamb style.

SPEAKER_03

So is that what you choose?

SPEAKER_00

No, but that that one I liked it because it's written by the same guy, same era. Bing Crosby, I think, does the most well-known version of it. Um, and it's also kind of has that sort of like uncanny valley of creepiness, but it's not probably actually supposed to be creepy. We just think it is because we're creepy.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. We're applying our own filter to it.

B‑Sides, Dream Covers, And Bits

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna say the thing I arrived on is a Jamie Buffett song. Why don't we get drunk?

SPEAKER_03

Wow, that's great.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you know the rest.

SPEAKER_03

I do know the rest.

SPEAKER_00

It's a family station though, so you can go look it up yourself. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But uh don't you think not with your family.

SPEAKER_00

It's kind of got that, you know.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

They're they're having a good time.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I never came up with three. They're drinking and they're you came up with three, so I feel like that's good enough.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, you you don't have nothing?

SPEAKER_03

No. Because I kept going, I was going for the duet angle. And I couldn't come up with anything that wasn't just like another random version of that song.

SPEAKER_00

Hmm. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Sorry.

SPEAKER_00

That's okay. It's it was tough.

SPEAKER_03

I think I do have other You can have the 504 Boys.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Actually, you can have Master P's version of the 504 Boys song? Yeah, you ain't gotta say too much.

SPEAKER_03

I've never heard that.

SPEAKER_00

With Miss Chi. It's pretty much like the it's pretty much exactly like the 504 Boys version.

SPEAKER_03

Oh.

SPEAKER_00

I think he actually produced the 504 boys.

SPEAKER_03

And then he was like, you know what, I want to do this myself. Yeah. I don't know which came first.

SPEAKER_00

It really doesn't matter. Um I don't know why I know so much. I don't even like No Limit Records.

SPEAKER_03

But Yeah, I hate No Limit Records.

SPEAKER_00

I like some of it, I like some mystical.

SPEAKER_03

I do like no idea what that even is.

SPEAKER_00

Make him say, uh, I I love that song. I do. It's I like Bow About It.

SPEAKER_03

What's the one song that I like May Crack? What's the song that uh dope sh what's a girl from Super Bad? What's her real name?

SPEAKER_00

Emma Stone.

SPEAKER_03

What's the one she did lip syncing?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, Blue Strap.

SPEAKER_03

And uh no. And they stay there. Make your hands go up and they stay there. You know that song. She does a rat like she lip synks the sort of thing. Doesn't she do uh she does do the blue trap. Yeah, hook, but she does this other one too.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Um, she's hilarious. She's pretty good. Okay. So who would you like to hear cover this song?

SPEAKER_00

You go first, I'll find whatever.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, I have two. Can I say two?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And they're both from the same universe.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. So the first one is I would like to see various members uh yeah, everyone from the Guardians of the Galaxy crew get a line in. And the and I would like to have I would like Dax to be the um Drax? Drax to be the main guy.

SPEAKER_00

To be the the the Ricardo or the the uh Johnny Mercy. But then there would be like little lines where he's singing to like Mantis?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. But there would be like all the characters, but all the characters would have like a little cameo where they would sing a couple lines to each other. Like the ones where she's like kind of like acting like she really doesn't want to stay, that could be um Gamora. Gamora and Chris, whatever his name star Star Lord.

SPEAKER_00

Star Lord.

SPEAKER_03

What's his name though? What do they really call him?

SPEAKER_00

Um like the actors?

SPEAKER_03

No, no, no. What's his real name? Not Star Lord.

SPEAKER_00

Oh crap. I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, so anyway, wouldn't that be great? Yeah. And that's that also is my soundtrack.

SPEAKER_00

Like they also have Christmas specials.

SPEAKER_03

Right. That's what made me think of it.

SPEAKER_00

I like that one actually. Kevin Bacon.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

It's pretty good.

SPEAKER_03

So wouldn't that be great? That would be also be the cover, like the soundtrack, the movie scene that we go with. They would do that.

SPEAKER_00

Nice.

SPEAKER_03

But then the other one from the same universe that I thought would be great would be Deadpool and Wolverine.

SPEAKER_00

That would be good. So we were kind of in the same sort of space.

SPEAKER_03

What a surprise.

SPEAKER_00

Uh, because I was trying to think of I'm like, gosh, I'd really like to see Jessica Rabbit sing this one. Oh my gosh. But I'm like, I Roger Rabbit couldn't pull it off. How about we just have uh Daffy Duck sing at the Donald Duck? You have ridiculous. Just absurd.

SPEAKER_03

We're just gonna throw like Jessica Rabbit, the actual lounge singer, out the window.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, she used my one of my first uh crushes. Yeah, definitely cartoon crush.

SPEAKER_03

Um, yeah, she wasn't real.

SPEAKER_00

She, well, she I mean, Plato's cave, right?

SPEAKER_03

I'm not bad. I'm just John.

SPEAKER_00

I have uh who else I put on here? Uh I'd like to see Lumiere sing it to the feather duster.

SPEAKER_03

Wow, what's wrong with us?

SPEAKER_00

I'd like to sing uh I'd like to uh uh maybe like um uh what's his name, Dennis Edwards or or David Ruffin sing it to Diana Ross.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Um I'm gonna make you love me.

SPEAKER_01

Um I love that song.

SPEAKER_00

But that's Diana Ross and Exceptations. David Ruffin, I think, just left the group right before the I think it was Dennis Edwards from the Concords came on. The You broke my heart, because I couldn't dance. My mom loves that song. Um but uh I think I had one more.

SPEAKER_03

What about soundtrack too?

SPEAKER_00

Well, I would like kind of in the same vein of how Red's Red Skelton was the kind of the, if you'll forgive me, the woman in that scenario. I would like for Kathy Bates to sing it to James Conn in the misery.

SPEAKER_03

I love it. Because he's trying to leave and she's when they wouldn't even have to she wouldn't even have to be singing it. They could just be playing it while he's trying to get out and she's preventing him. Yeah, he didn't do it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, in misery. But it'd be great if they did. I think it's perfect for misery.

SPEAKER_03

I think that's a good one.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I was proud of it. I like I'm very comfortable with my own head.

SPEAKER_03

I I don't have a lot going on in my It's nonsense. It's not nonsense. Listen to the consumption corner every week where you're like, You ever heard of those? And I'm like, No. No. You've seen that? No.

SPEAKER_00

Well, yeah, but it's because I'm like it's because I get up at five in the morning to watch There Will Be Blood.

SPEAKER_03

Humble Bragg.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I'm I'm I so for those the the for the folks at home, one of these movies, of the three movies that I watched, of the seven hours of movies that I watched, or how what's the math on that? I don't know. Closer to eight. Uh only only about an hour and a half, two hours were spent actually sitting down and watching a movie. The rest, I was like on the exercise bike, yeah. Or making coffee or doing the dishes. Yeah. Or, you know, I try to pick movies.

SPEAKER_03

I was just sleeping during all that.

Wrap, Holiday Wishes, And CTA

SPEAKER_00

I try to pick movies that aren't that I could that I could listen to, like movies that are known to be pretty dialogue heavy, so that if I turn my head, I'm not exactly missing something. Yeah. Or like they're an action-packed. Otherwise, I want to save those for or a movie that I would watch with you. Yeah. So I will probably go lighter next time around. I gotta watch Happy Go More too.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I'll probably watch that. I may watch some like just some like vinegar syndrome type, you know, six stream samurai or something like that, like a just a movie that you'd have no like a B movie that's just you know, with a dolomite looks like it's freaking citizen cane compared to something like that.

SPEAKER_03

Speaking of of uh the song and and shutting things down.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, we shutting things down.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I just wanted to it is, it's about that time, but I also turned it off by now. I wanted to tell you a funny story that I thought you would appreciate, and it's very uh apropos. Do tell my friend's in-laws they go there for Thanksgiving and everyone brings one thing. They arrive, they eat, but the hostess, the in-law that is the hostess, eats before everyone gets there so that she can just serve everyone, and then while everyone is eating, she cleans everything up and then turns off all the lights and tells everyone it's time to go. For Thanksgiving dinner.

SPEAKER_00

Who is this?

SPEAKER_03

An an in-law of a friend.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. That's really something. She has a sister.

SPEAKER_03

She was I was asking her what she's gonna do for Thanksgiving, and she said that um that was what they were gonna do, but it would probably only take them two hours. At most three. Oh.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that's our cue.

SPEAKER_03

That's alright. We're still we're still recording all the time. I never plugged it in.

SPEAKER_00

I'm such an idiot.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, dag. That's right, we're done.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we're done.

SPEAKER_03

All right.

SPEAKER_00

It's good.

SPEAKER_03

Hey guys, uh Merry Christmas.

SPEAKER_00

Merry Christmas. We have a couple. We hope you had a happy Thanksgiving.

SPEAKER_03

We do.

SPEAKER_00

And uh make sure you check us out on YouTube. That's right. Like, subscribe, leave us a review that's good. Other things that people do online.

SPEAKER_03
