We chase a messy, funny path from eggnog tales and Community parodies to a surprisingly thoughtful breakdown of The Band’s Christmas Must Be Tonight, stitching nostalgia, skepticism, and marriage banter into one warm holiday listen. Curiosity drives the night as we weigh UAP “proof,” honor Jimmy Cliff, and daydream dream covers and movie syncs.

• what this show does and why we make music while we wait in line
• amphibians vs reptiles, anime and Ghibli clarified
• Happy Gilmore 2 takeaways, cameos, and nostalgia curve
• UAP doc fatigue, talking heads, and trust in media
• Jimmy Cliff memories, The Harder They Come, and The Kinks deep cut
• crate digging joy with Dilla, Doom, and sample hunting
• Steven Seagal’s album: serviceable voice, great players, trite lyrics
• critical thinking, screen life, and attention hygiene
• why Christmas Must Be Tonight works: simple chords, rich melody
• dream covers, B-sides, and film moments that fit the song

Check out our YouTube video cover of “Christmas Must Be Tonight.” Christmas must be tonight.

Cold Open, Banter, And Setup

SPEAKER_00

Maybe we should just drink it on the show all the time. Have you ever seen the baby bird?

SPEAKER_04

No.

SPEAKER_00

Or uh the Opie and Anthony show, I think it was, where a guy drinks 63 shots of eggnog and then pukes it on the intern's head. Like almost like they're at a he's got his hair back on.

SPEAKER_04

This is on the Andy Griffiths show? Did you say Andy and O ping?

SPEAKER_00

Opie and Anthony. Oh Don Don Knott's was going through a phase.

SPEAKER_04

Welcome. We have a little song for you.

SPEAKER_00

It's great. It's an original. It's an original. I'm just gonna enjoy it. Yeah. Two married friends in a little room. I thought you were just gonna say you were gonna surround it by clothes.

SPEAKER_03

This is how I enjoy it.

SPEAKER_00

And for microphones. She died in his own. He kissed her lips because she was still warm. The audience won't like it. No not in all. Oh, let's see. Okay.

SPEAKER_04

That was a blend. Welcome to the audience won't like it. Featuring Rob Shoecraft and his wife.

SPEAKER_00

Leslie Shoecraft, my wife. That's my wife.

SPEAKER_04

That's my wife.

SPEAKER_00

Enjoy our under-the-sea noises.

SPEAKER_04

What are we doing here today?

SPEAKER_00

Little U571. You ever see that?

SPEAKER_04

I have. I saw that on a date called Boy named.

SPEAKER_00

Named the coolest boy alive.

SPEAKER_04

What was his name?

SPEAKER_00

Was it uh I don't remember.

SPEAKER_04

His name is Brian.

SPEAKER_00

Was Bon Jovi in that? Is it Brian Bon Jovi? It was Brian Jovian. You're going to see his brother in his premiere in the premiere?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Did you know that Millie Bobby Brown is married to a Bon Jovi now?

SPEAKER_00

No, I didn't. Like, when you say a Bon Jovi.

SPEAKER_04

I think the son of John Bon Jovi.

SPEAKER_00

Is he a son of a carpenter?

SPEAKER_04

Of a carpenter ant. I'm a son of a carpenter.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, let's uh this is the audience who won't like it. Hey, hey guys. That's a good one. My name's Rob Shoecraft. This is Leslie Shoecraft.

SPEAKER_04

That's right, we said that.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I know we did. This is a little tricky. I'm a little trickster.

SPEAKER_04

Welcome to our podcast where we talk a little bit about.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, what is this podcast about? Could you just run the folks through it real quick?

SPEAKER_04

Sure, I'd like to run them through it. So we talk a little bit about Sorry guy, come up on my leg. You put me in this ADHD chair now, I don't know what to do. Um This is a podcast where? We're, you know, we do a little bit of music. We do a cover of a song, and and while we wait in line to do that cover, we meet some other people. And sometimes those people are married to each other and they talk to each other about a lot of different things.

SPEAKER_00

It could be it could be an arranged marriage, right? Yeah, yeah, it could be. Could it be could it be a marriage like could it be strangers?

SPEAKER_04

In some of those romance novels that we've talked about in the past, there's like circle once? Well, yeah, but in any of them, there's arranged marriages that end up working out great.

SPEAKER_00

That's awesome.

SPEAKER_04

And that's the romance part.

SPEAKER_00

Taylor Hines? Tyler Hines? Tyler Hines. We'll have to ask my mom about that. Is he ever play a biker in any of those?

SPEAKER_04

I don't know. I've literally never watched a Hallmark Christmas movie.

SPEAKER_00

So You've never watched a Hallmark Christmas movie. I don't think so.

SPEAKER_04

I've watched I because you're so good. You're such a good man. Um anyway, we talk about all kinds of random stuff.

SPEAKER_00

Leanne Rhymes wasn't the last one.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Lian Rhymes.

SPEAKER_00

Is that her name?

SPEAKER_04

I don't know. Rhines.

SPEAKER_00

Rhines?

SPEAKER_04

No, it's rhymes.

SPEAKER_00

Pork Rhines.

SPEAKER_04

Um so anyway, sometimes we talk about crazy stuff, and then we usually settle in on a on one topic there for a little bit while we're in line waiting to see a concert.

SPEAKER_00

Which today is the band. Singing Christmas Must Be Tonight off of the 19th century. Oh, because it's Christmas time.

SPEAKER_04

And it it if you're noticing, if you're ever watching us on the YouTubes, instead of just listening, I have on my Star Wars Christmas shirt.

SPEAKER_00

And I have on an elementary school shirt.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, for Christmas.

SPEAKER_00

Because there's Christmas celebrations.

What This Show Is And Why We’re Here

SPEAKER_04

It was given to you as a gift. So it's like a Christmas celebration. So anyway, that's what this is. Everybody feels like they're all caught up and they know what they're here for?

SPEAKER_00

Hey, you know what? Speaking of catching up, why don't we start with some corrections?

SPEAKER_04

Oh no. What are we correcting again?

SPEAKER_00

Uh well, first of all, sorry. Dennis Edwards, I mentioned him last week. Um he is he was in the contours, not the Concords. He wasn't with Britt and uh Jermaine.

SPEAKER_04

I don't even remember you saying anything about who are we talking about?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know the original members of the contours. They could have been Britt and Germa and Germaine. Who knows? Um but and then Okay. And then uh the difference between reptiles and amphibians. Again. This will be the third week we covered this. Well, you had to ask me what the difference was. Okay.

SPEAKER_04

What is it? Professor Sheecraft.

SPEAKER_00

Well, there's a few.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Um one, there's a bit of a metamorphosis that's involved with amphibians, like frogs and salamanders and things.

SPEAKER_04

They grow legs after they're hatched.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they swim around and uh they they still come out of eggs like reptiles, but they're like soft, you know, squishy eggs.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, that's right. They don't have a heart. I just saw my biology teacher today, so I hope she never listens to this and thinks, wow.

SPEAKER_00

What's the book? It's about a metamorphosis. It's by a I want to say an Eastern European or Russian guy.

SPEAKER_01

Do you think it's a bigger one?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you might have read it in high school. It's called the Metamorph. It doesn't ring a bell. Hey, guess what? It'll be in the corrections next week. So stick to stick tuned.

SPEAKER_04

Anyway, stick tunes.

SPEAKER_00

Stick tuned. Also, they uh breathe through their skin, amphibians do. Um the reptiles lay eggs on the land and what do they breathe through? Uh mouths.

SPEAKER_04

They're mouth breathers. Yeah. Do they have noses?

SPEAKER_00

Did you know you can theoretically breathe through your butt? More on that later.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, great.

SPEAKER_00

Not today. Just later in life. I'm sure it'll come back up. All right. Uh you asked about anime? I didn't know the answer.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Uh any uh animation, any cartoon made in Japan is definitely considered anime.

SPEAKER_01

Oh wow.

SPEAKER_00

And so Ghibli Studios? That's how you say that. That's the next on the list. Ghibli Studios movies that we've seen, like How's Moving Castle, which I started the book. You did? I did, but hang on, that's more on the corrections corner. I should have known better.

SPEAKER_04

We're in the corrections corner.

SPEAKER_00

Consumptions corner. Sorry. Consumptions corner.

SPEAKER_04

Consumptions. Consumptions. Whoever put these springs on these microphones should be taken out back in the city.

SPEAKER_00

We need to take over Clark's call. This has to end, people.

SPEAKER_04

This has to end.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

So we can put these on like proper. I don't know. Who knows what we'll do.

SPEAKER_04

Guys, we're in a closet and it's actually, it feels like it's just shrinking in around us and we're starting to panic. We're panicking.

SPEAKER_00

And then the name of uh yes. The name of the uh radio rental episode is called Laura of the Woods. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That's all right.

Corrections Corner: Music, Animals, And Anime

SPEAKER_00

Episode four. Check it out, folks. That's all for the corrections corner. Now we can move on to some more mistakes that you won't like.

SPEAKER_04

That's right, because you don't like this podcast, but some reason you just keep coming back because we're in a toxic, dysfunctional relationship. But not me and Rob, we're in a healthy marriage paragon of marriage relationships.

SPEAKER_00

But you can be a a broken child in our family.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

We'll just shatter you to pieces. We'll love you though.

SPEAKER_04

We'll we'll shape you right up. Yeah. I will.

SPEAKER_00

I'll let you watch things you shouldn't.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, while I'm out of town.

SPEAKER_00

Like, well, Happy Gilmore, too, actually. I've let Clark Clark watch that, and he's the one who convinced me to watch it. You know what?

SPEAKER_04

Around here, if you want to uh watch something you're not allowed, just get the flu. We need everything world as your oyster. Yeah, if you're sick, you can do whatever you want.

SPEAKER_00

No, I think I I think the kids watched Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison with me when they were like three years old.

SPEAKER_04

So that you guys could all quote it.

SPEAKER_00

So this was nothing new. But I watched Happy Gilmore too.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah? How was it?

SPEAKER_00

This week.

SPEAKER_04

I heard it was not so great. Not so fresh.

SPEAKER_00

Who would tell you who would tell you something like this?

SPEAKER_04

Sweet business partner.

SPEAKER_00

Who?

SPEAKER_04

Her name is Ashley.

SPEAKER_00

No, I know. I know Ashley. Ashley, you're wrong. You're dead wrong. You're dead to me.

SPEAKER_04

You wrong business partner, you.

SPEAKER_00

You're dead like I almost said Veronica Vaughn, but it's Virginia Vennett.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, is this from the movie?

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna spoil this. She dies in like the first three seconds. He kills her.

SPEAKER_04

Wow.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, with a ball. And Eric golf ball flies out. Kind of like have you seen Simon Birch? He kills a like the woman like the like the his best friend's mom, who's like a mother to him and he loves, kills her with a foul ball. Sorry I spoiled that for you. That movie sucked. Don't worry about it.

SPEAKER_04

Sounds awful. I don't want to watch it. Thanks for letting me know ahead of time.

SPEAKER_00

Did it suck? I haven't seen it since high school. I don't think I was mature enough to watch that movie. Okay. Um, anyways.

SPEAKER_04

Are you now? Implication.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah, I uh I have you seen the first one, right?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I it started off I'd say the first 20 minutes of it, I was cracking up. Like it was killing me. And I was thinking, like, this is this is what Maverick did to Top Gun. Like, this is really done right.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, and then it took a nosedive.

SPEAKER_00

I wouldn't say it took a nosedive, it just got a little dull. Um no, dull's not the word. It did, it was just wasn't as funny. So here's the thing to their credit, they took a lot of swings, they just kept bringing in jokes, tons of fan service stuff. There was so much stuff, the basically any reference that you could possibly make from the first uh from the first movie they made. So like there's like a graveyard scene where like Shooter and uh and Happy are fighting, like beating the crap out of each other. And in that graveyard, they bump they bump into Bob Barker's cemetery or tombstone.

SPEAKER_04

This is in the second one you're talking about.

SPEAKER_00

Virginia Vennett. Um, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, in the second one. Um, the Mista Misa lady, which I was very happy to see. She is like a ghost.

SPEAKER_04

She's like, Mista, they're like, let's get out of here.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, Mista Misa lady for sure.

SPEAKER_04

What's she gonna do at our concert? But we for those of you who don't know, we're all right.

SPEAKER_00

She can watch.

SPEAKER_04

We're we're in the works putting together a uh concert, like a supreme everyone who was anything could be there or be in it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's like uh Righteous Brothers uh Rock and Roll Haven't. She's gonna I bet I bet she plays a fiddle or something.

SPEAKER_04

I bet she plays uh she just like hand out programs.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, that's fine. Hey, that's all that's noble work.

SPEAKER_04

It is.

SPEAKER_00

That's noble work.

SPEAKER_04

She could sell merch like you and me are gonna do. Not this kind of not not um the audience would like it. Hometown nutcracker merch.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, hometown. Um anyways, like every so the kid, like he has a bunch of uh kids, these four sons, and they all just fight and beat up everyone, including each other. But like they show them all at their jobs, and they're all like like you know, have a big phallic representation with cones. Are you familiar with the first one enough to know you don't really get what I'm basically? They make a million references to the first one. There's tons of cameos with all sorts of golfers, and John Lovitz is in it. Oh my god, Kevin Nealin's in it. Uh they CGI uh Carl Weather's in it, even Abraham Lincoln comes back, even grandma, an alligator. A bunch of alligators eat the jackass guy's kid. They run into his tombstone too.

SPEAKER_04

Wow.

SPEAKER_00

It's just like reference upon reference upon reference upon the game.

SPEAKER_04

Is there a storyline?

SPEAKER_00

There is a storyline. I wrote it's a little bit of Rookie of the Year. Right? I guess I'm ruining everything. So Rookie of the Year, you know he's got the shoulder injury that makes him throw fastballs.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, right.

SPEAKER_00

These, these, this golf league, it's like this extreme golf league that they're trying to start and recruit Happy Gomorrow.

SPEAKER_04

We're doing a podcast about Happy Gilmar 2 today.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

It's one of the movies I watch.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, but but we're like 10 minutes in.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, all right, all right, all right. All right. Uh it's a little bit Rocky III, it's a little bit heist movie dodgeball, a little bit even Soldier. There's a lot of good Steve Bushemi cameos. He peas on mailboxes twice.

SPEAKER_03

What?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he's great. What did he say? There's a lot of great stuff in Helly Joe Haley Joe uh ointment. They wrote ointment. Um plays a villain.

SPEAKER_04

Does he see dead people on there?

SPEAKER_00

He might have seen the Mista Misa lady. He might have seen Kitty Wills. No. They didn't say. What?

SPEAKER_04

Kitty Wills in the middle. They didn't cover it.

SPEAKER_00

No, they didn't cover it. Um Chris McDonald is you know, shooter McGavin. John Daly is in it. Chris McDonald's a great actor, by the way. I don't know why he's not in more stuff.

SPEAKER_04

What's he? Who's he?

SPEAKER_00

Shooter McGavin.

SPEAKER_04

Oh. He plays a real piece of trash though, right?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he's like one of my favorite villains of all time. He's super good. He's a great actor.

SPEAKER_04

But he has some weird slime about him.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. He's in he's in the second one and he ends up teaming up with Happy Gil One.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, wow.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I said I was spoiling this movie, right?

SPEAKER_04

Uh you said it and then you like tripped over your words to get the spoiler out. So it wasn't enough time for whoever was.

SPEAKER_00

Anyways, I really liked it. I actually really liked it. Should we put a spoiler alert on the I did love it, but it was way better than it than I thought it would be.

SPEAKER_04

Cool.

SPEAKER_00

I if you liked Happy Gilmore, watch the movie. Okay. How's that? Cool. Cool. What'd you uh what'd you do?

SPEAKER_04

I haven't done much because we were uh gone. We we did the recording a week ago and somehow I found a way to watch. No, and then we watched and we left and went out into town to hang out with your fam for Thanksgiving. But I am I am more than two-thirds of the way through the age of disclosure, which is the Joe Rogan or not Joe Rogan, he was on Joe Rogan, which is how I heard of it. It's a documentary about the government covering up aerial phenomenon, unknown UAPs, as they say.

SPEAKER_00

What's that saying for?

Closet Studio Chaos And Radio Rental Nod

SPEAKER_04

Unknown aerial phenomenon. Okay. Uh and it's I'm not done with it yet, but I don't know if I'm gonna finish it. So if that's a commentary on how interesting I'm finding it. The unfortunate thing about it is that he has a lot of h really high-ranking, reputable people on camera saying like sharing their first hand direct in interaction with aliens, unknown cre uh unknown vessels and all the crazy things they've seen, and like talking about how like we have nothing that even remotely comes close to what that stuff can do. Um and is that still going on? Uh we're recording, we're just recording newbies. Anyway. But it's just talking head. There's no images, there's no I don't know. It's just it's just talking head after talking head.

SPEAKER_00

Were you hoping to have more like maybe new photographic evidence of some kind? Or did you just want to see something that's gonna be a little more engaging while you're watching it?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. And even when I I I I don't mind just something like you've talked about, like if it's if they're just talking while you're doing a task, I don't mind that. But because I was decorating the Christmas tree while I was watching it, but I didn't it just it didn't hold my attention. A lot of it I've already heard. Like if you listen to the Joe Rogan where he interviews the documentarian, you've heard everything, the highlights from it.

SPEAKER_00

So there you go, folks.

SPEAKER_04

Save yourself some time and well, they're actually the Joe Rogan's longer than the documentary, so you pick.

SPEAKER_00

You know, just listen to us.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, well, listen to this twice. But the the one aspect of it that I'd never thought of, which I shared with you, off pod. Which we hardly are allowed to talk to each other off pod anymore. Because we'd be like in the middle of a con conversation of like, save it over the podcast.

SPEAKER_00

Keep it novel.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, keep it novel. So but anyway, it's the fact that the government's been a hiding all of this stuff from the public, and b using taxpayer dollars that are not accounted for and the repercussions of whistleblowing on the secret government cover-ups. So that's kind of interesting, I guess. So it's okay. I mean the the documentarian, I'm sorry I don't know his name. I'm sure it's something really cool like Steve.

SPEAKER_00

Steve Alien Steve Alien.

SPEAKER_04

Steve Alien.

SPEAKER_00

Steve Alien saucer heads brain.

unknown

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Arm tree.

SPEAKER_00

Something super cool like that.

SPEAKER_04

It is. Anyway, he seems really excited about his work, but I just don't think I'm as excited about it as I wish I would have been.

SPEAKER_00

I just I wish I could love those more. I just can't. I've just immediately s immediately don't trust anybody talking saying anything, including the people they're saying not to trust.

SPEAKER_04

I don't even feel that like that. I feel like these guys are telling that telling you what they know. And it seems really uh transparent and legit. But it's just a person's account or something, and without, you know, a video or and by the way, can you even trust videos and photos anymore? Right. Thanks to AI.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, thanks a lot, pal.

SPEAKER_04

Photoshop, Chad. Photoshop. Thanks to AI and Photoshop.

SPEAKER_00

Freaking Photoshop.

SPEAKER_04

So anyway, I worked my way through some of that. And I'll let you know if I decide to finish it or not.

SPEAKER_00

Photoshop's been around for a minute.

SPEAKER_04

Now your turn.

SPEAKER_00

Well now you go. Do you know the Jimmy Cliff, uh Jimmy Cliff passed away last week?

SPEAKER_04

You told me he did.

SPEAKER_00

On the 24th, I believe.

SPEAKER_04

And I said save it for the pod.

SPEAKER_00

Did you say that?

SPEAKER_04

No, I think we had some he's the um what's that rain song that he does?

SPEAKER_00

The rain song?

SPEAKER_04

Or what is it?

SPEAKER_00

I can see clearly. I can see clearly now. The rain is gone. Yeah, yeah, okay. That was one of the first songs.

SPEAKER_04

That's one of the first songs that we learn in music therapy class in college on the guitar. Oh. And it has a a flat seven.

SPEAKER_00

Oh. So interesting. Where's the flat seven, do you recall?

SPEAKER_04

It's gonna be a bra, bra, sunshiny day. It's in that part.

SPEAKER_00

Well, he's uh did did did I ever make you watch Did I ever make you watch The Harder They Come?

SPEAKER_04

Uh what's it about?

SPEAKER_00

It is a boo. Okay. It's a 1972 movie.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, I saw it. I loved it.

Happy Gilmore 2: Spoilers And Cameos

SPEAKER_00

Jimmy Cliff. Jimmy Cliff is a wait, I think, yeah, I think it's him. It's Jamaican records, who shoots, who kills corrupt police officers. He's kind of like a it's kind of like a Robin Hood story.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, I've never seen it.

SPEAKER_00

Where he's like getting bigger and bigger. Robin Hood's probably not the best. He's like an anti-hero.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Where he maybe close to closer to Dolomite. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Um, but not as I didn't know Dolomite had any redeeming qualities.

SPEAKER_00

Anyways, I'd have to re-watch it. I haven't seen it. I used to own it on DVD. Dolomite? Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Like what? Like what's a real one?

SPEAKER_00

Well, first of all, he's a great hang.

SPEAKER_04

Um Do you think any of these microphones were featured in the movie?

SPEAKER_00

I mean, the warden, the warden came up to him because he trusted him. He the warden trusted him to take down Willie Green. He brought he brought B, Queen B in with him. She said, Oh, oh, Dolomite, I'm so happy. You're coming home tomorrow. I'm gonna tell everyone. You're coming home tomorrow. She's like, cry. Okay, we gotta do a Dolomite one. We also need to do something we have to watch. A Harder They Come one, okay. Which is, I would say, a better movie. Like it's actually kind of It's got a great soundtrack. That's what I was building up to.

SPEAKER_04

All right.

SPEAKER_00

It's got many rivers across on it. I'd love to do that song sometime.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

All right.

SPEAKER_00

Um rest in peace, Jimmy Cliff. You can come to our concert anytime you want.

SPEAKER_04

It's gonna be a bright, bright sunshiny day when you get there, buddy.

SPEAKER_00

What else?

SPEAKER_04

I don't know. Can you remember anything else I did?

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah.

SPEAKER_04

What?

SPEAKER_00

Well, you listened to the Kinks Something Else album, 1967.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, was that what we listened to on the way up to Cleve?

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. It's a great album.

SPEAKER_04

It's a great album. I did like it. I said it was the one that I said sounds like it could be from any era, right?

SPEAKER_00

They have a bit of a timeless feel to them. At least some of the some of the songs do. Some of them sound pretty pretty smack dab in the late 60s, especially with like um I write it down. Lazy Old Sun. It has like a bit of like a Sergeant Pepper kind of sound to it. You had uh I really like the song Oh Love Me Till the Sun Shines. I like that one a lot. I always try to listen to albums for like the song I will end up liking the whole thing after a few times, but there's always a song that like stands out. I really loved that tune. Um I wanted I'd I would love to think they refer to those as like I'd love to hear Hendrix Hendrix cover it at our wedding. At our concert, at our wedding. We'll we'll have a we'll we'll renew our vows anyway. Um I like well the reason I wanted to listen to that album, because I I never have, and it's it's kind of it was like kind of a commercial failure, I think, but it was a critical critically eclect. Yeah, there was like this big sleeper hand there was a big um what do they call it? Like a touring ban where like the kinks were not allowed to tour America for a certain amount of years. I think between like 65 and Why? Because they were ridiculously um they were troublemakers.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, at their shows.

SPEAKER_00

Ray and uh the Davies brothers would just fight each other on stage. Like they punched out one of like the stage hands.

SPEAKER_04

So the so the Gallagher brothers from Oasis.

SPEAKER_00

AFM, the uh maker's funniest music. Bob Sagitt plays with Kazoo on Rollers.

SPEAKER_04

He can come to our concert too. He can do some dirty stand-up.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. He could raise his hand and say, marijuana's not a drug. Never mind. Watch Half Baked if you want to get that reference.

SPEAKER_04

Um If you don't want to get it, don't watch it.

SPEAKER_00

Don't watch it, yeah. Don't watch it. I don't care. Um I do care actually. You should watch Half Bakon. It's a great film. Have you seen that?

SPEAKER_04

Yes, I watched it with you. I know you have.

SPEAKER_00

I just want to get you bad.

SPEAKER_04

We saw Rob's brother. We saw Rob's brother of the weekend, and he went on and on about how funny Rob was and how it was so great to be able to listen to his brother like on Spotify. And then he's like, and you just go, mm-hmm. Okay. And it's true. He's right. He said other nice things about me too, but that one stood out because I feel like all of you. You're absolutely necessary. I never have.

SPEAKER_00

You're absolutely necessary. Otherwise, I would be talking for 40 minutes about the uh etymology of Harry Rag.

SPEAKER_04

We all have our roles.

SPEAKER_00

There's another song on there. It means cigarette. And it comes from another word that I'm not allowed to say.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, don't say it.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Um, anyways, I really like that album. I can't wait to listen to it some more. Waterloo Sunset is one of my favorite songs by the Kings.

SPEAKER_04

Who were we listening to that was doing a great job? Oh, it was the Tutosha Matunaki. What's his name? What's his name?

SPEAKER_00

I'm sure they're I'm sure that's offensive to somebody.

SPEAKER_04

What's his real name? I'm very close. There's also a there's also a dressmaker. I think it was a Star Wars character.

SPEAKER_00

I'm not even gonna say it, but it sounds very Yeah, no, give it a shot.

SPEAKER_04

This person makes beautiful dresses. You just got points in Joe's book, though.

SPEAKER_00

Joe Joe just gave you a big thumb.

SPEAKER_04

Thank you, Joe. Three weeks from now. Anyway.

SPEAKER_00

I started listening to uh the How's Moving Castle audiobook.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, what party at?

SPEAKER_00

She just got the castle to stop. So she can't she like helped a dog. She found a stick and got the castle to stop.

SPEAKER_04

Scarecrow involvement, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Scarecrow, I don't think, has been involved yet. Okay. No, she did see a scarecrow. I don't think she she just talked to it, but it hasn't done anything.

SPEAKER_04

That's important.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, it's you know, I'll probably have it done by the end of next week.

SPEAKER_04

So how do you feel about it so far compared to the movie?

SPEAKER_00

Um so far it's not that different. It's kind of different. It's different in a few ways, like where the like I I didn't know if that woman in it in the beginning was her mom or her sisters or what, where now it's like kind of fleshes out her family and how the story of how she got the hat store and and her interactions with patrons and how the which of the waist came in and all that. But it's not that far removed, but I I I could definitely see it. I mean, it's just started. I think I'm like 10% through.

SPEAKER_04

I'm so happy and and I feel so warm that you're listening to it.

SPEAKER_00

I'm glad it warmed you up.

SPEAKER_04

Now, if you don't like it, lie.

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna tell you. We can have a lot of people. You broke my heart with beats or wings with wings.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, that's true.

SPEAKER_00

Inner light? I got a feeling you know you would love that very much.

SPEAKER_04

I got a feeling it's not my favorite one, but I it's not my favorite, but I like it a lot. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_00

We listened to it just a little bit of uh People Under the Stairs, OST.

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah. Right right before we got out of the car, though.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I love that album. I think those dudes are super underrated. And they don't have anything to do with that wonderful movie we watched. Wes Craven, I believe, did that one.

SPEAKER_04

That was not even a very good movie.

SPEAKER_00

It wasn't great. Not even uh Ving Rames, I think, was in it. Oh yeah, I don't remember that at all. Uh you're making me nervous with your watch.

SPEAKER_04

I'm getting a lot of messages. Oh man. You don't have to look at me. Here, I'm gonna put I'm gonna put mine in Do Not Disturbed because I care about Well, I'm not going to because it's slippery out there, and I don't want our daughter to get into her car.

SPEAKER_00

Well, if she goes through, you guys go through, my boss goes through and my car. Don't look at my watch.

SPEAKER_04

I'm sorry, I won't look at it anymore.

SPEAKER_00

And your mom goes through. You're welcome, Judy. You barely made it.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, that's not true. She paid you.

SPEAKER_00

Just kidding. Anyways, I love the dig. The dig's my favorite song off that album. I won't talk about it much more, but the dig, I feel like, speaks to me. You know what the dig's about, honey? Do you ever hear the expression digging in the crates?

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_00

Or the group with Big L?

SPEAKER_01

Nope.

SPEAKER_00

And Fat Joe?

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_00

Well, digging in the crates is when you're kind of looking I I think this is what it means anyway. When you're looking through uh trying to find like samples or trying to find great new music.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, you mean like creative music recording? Creative music, yeah, yeah. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

So like I I've just always been You're really into that. Completely, yeah. I love doing it. I love just finding new music. It's one of the reasons I want to make do this podcast. But another thing is that it's when you listen to a sample of someone I d ironically, I don't know what the sample for that song was, but listening to like Jay Dilla on like Let's Ride, do you know that song by Q-tip?

SPEAKER_04

I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I bet you do if we played it. It's uh but it's got a like an obscure like Joe Pass lick from his cover of Coltrane's giant steps, and you're just like, How did he find this?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. How did he find it?

SPEAKER_00

Like, how did he listen? Like I realize Joe Pass isn't super obscure, but that is just or like MF Doom did like this in this in on um Rap Snitch Canishes uh did this It's like a tiny little lick from a Dave Matthews band live guitar solo. Just an obscure I don't know. I love I just love that.

SPEAKER_04

So I can see the appeal.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Anyways, we'll maybe we'll do a uh digging in the crates episode. Maybe the the group and Big L can come to our find some crates in the movie. So it can double K.

SPEAKER_04

Can we actually dig in the crates?

SPEAKER_00

Ooh, that'd be an interesting. Go to like a thrift store or something.

UAP Doc Fatigue And Media Skepticism

SPEAKER_04

Mm-hmm. Nothing around here has crates of music though.

unknown

Hmm.

SPEAKER_04

We'll have to hook up with our old buddy across the river.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um I another thing we watched was a community episode.

SPEAKER_04

Oh.

SPEAKER_00

I looked it up. Basic rocket science.

SPEAKER_04

Which one was that?

SPEAKER_00

With the um simulation.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, the simulation.

SPEAKER_00

I I loved that. I wanted to I wrote it down because I thought it was a particularly awesome episode.

SPEAKER_04

No, I know Abed had couldn't like he served a purpose, but man, I was super bummed that he wasn't on the shuttle with them.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I think they cared more about parodying Apollo 13 than they did making sure Abed was funny on the ship.

SPEAKER_04

I understand, and it was a great episode. That that show is just really giving me a nice warm hug. It's a little tighter every night.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I noticed that Dan so Dan Harmon wrote it, and he wrote Rick and Morty.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm noticing that there's a lot of ties to you know, Rick and Morty basically just has a different trope or parody for each episode. They just do it really, really, really, really well. And I feel like community. I almost wonder if Dan Harman's like cutting was cutting his teeth on community before he wrote Rick and Morty. I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

He sent to trauma.

SPEAKER_00

I'm sure that's been written about like crazy, but uh Dan Harmon, no, just Justin Royland.

SPEAKER_04

Is that who he was with?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I don't think Dan Harman got in any trouble.

SPEAKER_04

It's too many people getting into trouble. I don't know how if I can make it through this whole episode with this stool.

SPEAKER_00

And there's another thing that I wanted to mention that I we're gonna we're about to go pretty deep.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

You ready?

SPEAKER_03

I'm ready.

SPEAKER_00

We're about to go deep into a crystal cave.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

To find some songs from a crystal cave.

SPEAKER_04

Take me there.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

We're gonna follow somebody there. Okay. You know who it is?

SPEAKER_04

I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

Dead air. Steven Segal.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, the how could you I was gonna say sting. If only.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we can follow Sting in there. Um I'll follow Steven Segal too, though. Steven Segal. I listened to the entire album.

SPEAKER_04

You did? Yeah. It's like a it's like What's the name of the one that I watched on the hour long.

SPEAKER_00

Uh Girl, it's all right.

SPEAKER_04

So objectively speaking, he does have a good singing voice. Right?

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_04

So and and I mean the songs are a little cheesy.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

However, if you didn't have that creepy music video.

SPEAKER_00

Like where he's like kind of like rubbing down the chick at the end.

SPEAKER_04

Also, the who is so much like twenty-five years younger than the other. Well, I believe at least. And another culture. Everyone in the video is of another culture except him.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

All the ladies anyway.

SPEAKER_00

Well right? Yes. Yes.

SPEAKER_04

Are they Japanese? Chinese.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know where they were from. Korean. I don't know. I feel like he mixes all sorts of I'm sure they had probably an advisor on the stage, and he's just like, nope, we're doing this, and we're doing that.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, you mean Steven Segal was mixing the advisor?

SPEAKER_00

Well, if you listen to yeah, yeah. Not that the advisor was advising like The Rewatchables has a uh a segment, they give a category to you familiar with the the the premise of that podcast.

SPEAKER_01

Uh yes.

SPEAKER_00

Well, they have a category called like the Stephen Segal. Did this scene need a better intimacy coordinator? Right. Because like there's just scenes from some of his movies. Or he's just gross.

SPEAKER_04

So he's just dirty. What's the opposite? Subjectively speaking, it's disgusting. So sorry, Stephen. Is he dead?

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_04

How old is he? 85?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know how old he is.

SPEAKER_04

He's 80?

SPEAKER_00

His skin is beautiful.

SPEAKER_04

Has it been surgically alternative?

SPEAKER_00

It's nice and stretched and swallowed the way I like it. The way I like my blues mend. So I gotta say, Stephen Zegall, and I could take a little shot at it at you there. He is way better than I thought he would be.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I listened to that entire album. That song. Okay, listen, I don't love the song, but it's not bad. Right. Like if if if Wilson Pickett sang that song with that group, you know, it'd be it'd be pretty freaking good. Like Dwayne Allman, like have you ever heard them do uh off topic, but Hey Jude?

SPEAKER_04

I don't know if I have.

SPEAKER_00

They did a cover of that. It's sick. I don't even like the song Hey Jude, but I love that version. Anyways, back on Seagull.

SPEAKER_04

Why don't you like that song?

SPEAKER_00

That song doesn't I hate the end. I hate it.

SPEAKER_04

You don't like that?

SPEAKER_00

No, it's just no, I don't.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

I don't hate it. I d I don't hate that song.

SPEAKER_04

There's only one beetle I've got to do it.

SPEAKER_00

I don't like it very much at all. But I I love their version of it. It's fine. Whatever. Good uh.

SPEAKER_04

Back to Steven Segal.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, there's two Beatles left. Ringo and Paul.

SPEAKER_04

Oh.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

But people care about Ringo.

SPEAKER_00

I care about Ringo.

SPEAKER_04

Ringo wasn't gonna say Paul.

SPEAKER_00

You weren't saying Paul.

SPEAKER_04

I didn't say a name. You weren't gonna say Paul. Now we know how you feel about Ringo apart.

SPEAKER_00

Poor Ringo.

SPEAKER_04

It wasn't gonna tear him in any directions.

SPEAKER_00

I watched a lot of Stephen Segall videos this week.

SPEAKER_04

That's that's what you need to take away from this.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. I watched a blues guitar player name, I think I wrote it down, wrote down his channel. Um In the Blues is the name of the channel. He did a Steven Zegall breakdown of some of his live concert.

SPEAKER_04

Oh my gosh, he did a live concert. Oh yeah. Was it well attended?

SPEAKER_00

I have no idea. It didn't show.

SPEAKER_04

They sell out?

SPEAKER_00

He's not bad, he's not a bad guitar player.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, Steven Zegall?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I thought he was kind of faking it, but he kind of plays like. He plays with his thumb and just his thumb. He kind of plays like that. And this dude was analyzing what he was doing. He's like, that was actually kind of a he played a major, he played a major scale when everybody else was playing something. He's like, that honestly is not an easy like is tell me about basically I don't know exactly what he said, but because it looks like he's fake playing in video. So I had to look up to see if he was legit. Yeah, he probably was. I mean, it's a video, but like he could have just had a session player playing it. And I thought that maybe he just took credit for it.

SPEAKER_04

Is he a bad person?

Jimmy Cliff, The Harder They Come, And The Kinks

SPEAKER_00

I think it's probably as close to objectively uh he's delu he's incredibly delusional and egotistical, and I would say chances are incredibly high he's a bad person.

SPEAKER_04

So what do you mean? How do you know he's delusional?

SPEAKER_00

There's we could go super deep on Seagull right now. I don't know how much. And I don't want to make it.

SPEAKER_04

This will do save it for off the pod.

SPEAKER_00

I do love I do love some Seagull movies.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Uh Under Siege, we should watch that sometime. It's actually have you seen Under Siege? I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

I don't think so. I don't think I've seen it.

SPEAKER_00

Tell me if he's a bad person when you see him uh make out with Eric Alaniac, who's probably like 20 years younger than him. I don't watch it.

SPEAKER_04

Oh my goodness.

SPEAKER_00

I'm mixing up scenes. I haven't seen it in a while myself. But uh I I got a like a weird love-hate relationship with Sagal. But I got I want there are a couple so Lady, what's her name? Lady Saw. Do you do you know who that is? Uh-huh. You know the song Underneath It All by No Doubt?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, is that the remakeup? Oh. Is she the rapper the featured rapist?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know, actually. She's on like Jamaican dancehall queen from like, but he's got all sorts the world music on that album inside or songs, songs from the Crystal Cave is crazy. He's got like songs from like Southeastern uh Asia, Southeast Asia. He's got songs from like tons of Jamaican stuff, he's got tons of blue stuff.

SPEAKER_04

He's how how did you discover this album?

SPEAKER_00

Or that Stephen Segal made me. I saw a I saw somebody put a like a Reddit post, which was this could be a second. Timely uh for um it's like Segal with his guitar, and it's he's just got like the this just super sacker and sexy look. So I was like, what is this? So 2005, he put out an album. Oh, freaking Stevie Wander's on it.

SPEAKER_04

What?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he plays a money man. There's this song called There's a song called uh I think it's called like My God, yeah, My God is better than your God. And there's like this warring like harmonica guitar. He's like going back and forth on the guitar, Stevie Wonders on Harmonica. And and I think it was like a s satirical song about he's got like all these deep songs about war and these song. I mean it's it's it's crazy. It's it but they out it's not it's not awful though. And I think a lot of it is because he's just surrounds himself with legitimately great musicians. Um but he like you said he's got a serviceable boy voice. Yeah, his lyrics are the triteest thing you've ever heard in your life. I mean, but but it's it there were a couple songs I was like, this is not a bad song. Like this is actually pretty good. Turn it off, turn it off. And this guitar playing is not bad. It's arguably better than me.

SPEAKER_04

Turn it off. It's never, don't you ever say that.

SPEAKER_00

Anyways, I uh I'm gonna I've said this last week. I would say this is the reason I do this podcast.

SPEAKER_04

So you can do discover gems like this. Everybody do your check. Sorry. Uh I feel like everything's too close or far too far. That's better. Okay. Sorry about that, everyone.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Um, okay. Well, real quick before we transition, I do have a consumption question.

SPEAKER_00

I'd love to hear it.

SPEAKER_04

So since this this app's gonna drop mid-holiday season. We consumed a lot of food.

SPEAKER_03

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_04

What's like uh what is like a a uh savory food and a sweet food that you have to have in order to feel like Thanksgiving and Christmas were complete.

SPEAKER_00

Whoa, you're really putting me on the spot with that.

SPEAKER_04

I know.

SPEAKER_00

Savory food. Savory food and a sweet food.

SPEAKER_04

Like a dessert or a side dish that you there was a time where I would say eggnog.

SPEAKER_00

I really do love eggnog. But it's just so freaking bad for you.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But because you know, because I'm also usually drinking it with booze. Right. And it's just it's just terrible for you.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, so what do you have?

SPEAKER_00

I I do plan on drinking some at least one at least one night, one weekend we'll call.

SPEAKER_04

Maybe we should grab some.

Did you say Andy and Opie?

SPEAKER_00

Opie and Anthony.

unknown

Oh. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Don Knott's was going through a phase.

SPEAKER_04

Anyway, sorry about that. I really was confused.

SPEAKER_00

So come here around, Howard. Actually, get your brother. Get your brother Clint.

SPEAKER_04

And your daughter.

SPEAKER_00

Have you ever seen Clint Howard Star Trek Clint Howard, the Star Trek episode, the original where he's like a child.

SPEAKER_04

And you like showed it to me. Yeah. Okay. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Wow. Awesome.

SPEAKER_04

See, I finally remembered something.

SPEAKER_00

I love you.

SPEAKER_04

I love you too.

SPEAKER_00

So eggnog, we'll go with the sweet. Okay. Okay. And uh Savory. Man.

SPEAKER_04

I'm sorry. I just wanted to have fun.

SPEAKER_00

I'd like to eat everything, I guess. But I'm trying to think of like staple foods. Well, yeah, I know what. You know what?

SPEAKER_04

What?

SPEAKER_00

This is a new tradition for me.

SPEAKER_04

What?

SPEAKER_00

Uh fried rice on Christmas morning.

SPEAKER_04

Fried rice on Christmas morning.

SPEAKER_00

That is a nice tradition. I do enjoy it. I love that. Thanks for introducing me.

SPEAKER_04

You're welcome. That's Aunt Susie. She did that for us.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's been aunt Susie. Has that been a 20-year thing for us?

SPEAKER_04

Uh yeah, well, I think longer because my sister started doing it even before maybe we were even married.

SPEAKER_00

Christmas morning. Fried rice and eggnog. Ugh. Let's do it.

SPEAKER_04

No, we have fresh squeezed juices. Okay, well, mine is um crinkle cookies. That are like multicolored, you know, or pressed cookies. That's what I'm thinking of. Pressed cookies. I love pressed cookies. With sprinkles? I don't care about that. That's you. That's my sweet. Although those buttermilk pies we've been making at your mom's are pretty chest pie. Chest pie. Yeah, they're so good.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Um, but then for me, savory. Oh, I heard you swallow. It's so loud now. I can't I'm such a good thing.

SPEAKER_00

I've been trying not to.

SPEAKER_04

No, I don't care. People then they're not gonna like it. They can just the audience won't.

SPEAKER_00

I wouldn't listen to us. Well, you're you're a minority. Makes too many. My savory thing savory, yes.

SPEAKER_04

Is I'm not sure I don't get to have it every year, but I really, really dig a a stuffing made with bread, not from a package mix. Where someone has cut the bread up themselves and it's more of a dry, drier, like sausagey type stuff.

SPEAKER_00

Do you like sausage in it?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Me too.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. We need to have that. Yeah. Maybe I'll make that. Maybe I'll make it for Sunday church dinner.

SPEAKER_00

Hey. Hey. Great idea.

SPEAKER_04

Great idea.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'll have five over that.

SPEAKER_04

Alright. So anyway, thanks for playing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. That was sound of it's good to know that. I'm glad you pulled that out of me. You like this? We're sitting on the big thing. Ticket-tick tik-tac-tick-in-ding, ring-a-ning-ding. Rick-a-tick-tick. Okay.

SPEAKER_04

So, um, let's transition to.

SPEAKER_00

Those for those who know. For two, so speaking of uh Reddit.

SPEAKER_04

And Steven Segal.

Sampling Love: Dilla, Doom, And Crate Digging

SPEAKER_00

And Steven Segal. So we we didn't have a whole lot of time to plan this.

SPEAKER_04

You don't have to tell.

SPEAKER_00

I know you're I knew you were gonna say that. I knew you were gonna say that. No, but seriously, we didn't I we were driving back, and we're like, what we're gonna talk about on the podcast. We're driving back from Cleveland. And uh I I thought I said, I got a ton of I have probably, I don't know, a hundred saved Reddit posts that I've I always save Reddit posts, and then I never never in my life have I ever gone back to look at one. I don't know if there are other people do today's the day. So I I've spent a ton of time on Reddit.

SPEAKER_04

I save a lot of Instagram posts, and I do look at a lot of them because they have recipes or workouts or book titles.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I you know, I've been not necessarily Reddit for using Reddit forever, but just forums in general.

SPEAKER_04

You're an original forum lover.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but me and you know 50 million other people.

SPEAKER_04

Not me. I mean I've never been in a forum.

SPEAKER_00

Forums, I think, are like the last bastion of truth on the internet. At least as far as not necessarily truth. There's plenty of it's that's a terrible thing to say. Hang on.

SPEAKER_04

Opinion. Not truth.

SPEAKER_00

We'll sc we'll call it authenticity. Sure. Um and and I love the self-governing, and it's a it's a hostile place. Like Reddit. Of course, some subreddits are better than others, but um but forums in general. So even before Reddit, I was always on like I learned how to lift weights on bodybuilding.com. I learned about guns and gun safes and all that stuff from AR-15. I learned about I mean, I still go on gamefacts.com sometimes. Just whatever whenever I if I ever the last time I played a video game like two years ago.

SPEAKER_04

Other than other than teenage reading shows not amphibians, well NBA 2K 20, whatever.

SPEAKER_00

26. Yeah, but I Clark, I just let him I'm just a freaking ragdoll. Yeah. I don't let him let him.

SPEAKER_04

Or why is he so much better? He's better than me. Because he plays it all the time.

SPEAKER_00

He's played that game hundreds and hundreds of hours more than I have. He times every shot perfectly. If I don't stuff him, if he gets Luca, Jokic, uh Durant, um, freaking Jordan Brunson. I'm just basically I can name a bunch of people who he will just absolutely destroy me with. He doesn't miss. He had this thing called this thing called like it's like a power-up called like uh long bomb or but basically he was just pulling up and shooting 40 foot threes with and just draining. There's nothing I can do about it. He's very good at it. I'm not I'm not bad. I can beat him every now and then, but anyways.

SPEAKER_04

Anyway, let's get it. Anyways. So Reddit.

SPEAKER_00

So I'm gonna get I'm gonna pull this up. Should we set a timer?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, probably. I can set one.

SPEAKER_00

We wanna do like 20 minutes?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I'll start there.

SPEAKER_00

So how are we gonna do this? You are you're just gonna you're just gonna pull up my saves and then you're gonna ask me about them?

SPEAKER_04

I'm gonna pull them up, sure.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. So let's. This may be the last time we do this, but we're certainly not gonna get through the list, I'll tell you that much. Um it is in order of recently saved. I think recent? Recently saved.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, well let's go back then.

SPEAKER_00

You're going way back?

SPEAKER_04

We're going way back.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Did you already get back?

SPEAKER_04

Oh four months. Okay. Five months. Let's see.

SPEAKER_00

Five months, okay. Hopefully I don't have anything horribly embarrassing on there.

SPEAKER_04

Well, I won't I won't read it out loud if you do. Okay. Uh here's a good one. This is very on brand for you. One of the worst punishments in human history. The victim will be trapped between two hollowed-out logs. Oh yeah. Their arms and legs exposed. And then they were force-fed large milk and honey.

SPEAKER_00

Uh-huh. Those are the Assyrians used to do that.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, there's more, but I'm done reading about that. So talk to me about that.

SPEAKER_00

Well, uh, if I remember. Rob loves torture. I don't actually like I actually hate you would think I'd love like slasher movies and stuff like that. I'm I'm it's not that I love torture. I I I actually hate it. It it angers me. What I what it is is that it exists, it has been in existence, and I find I find it fascinating. Like it's already it has already happened, so uh we may as well look at it.

SPEAKER_04

So what would make you save that?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I just thought it was an interesting conversation, if I remember correctly. Because it's it it it turns like a lot of a lot of people through histor historians or and archaeologists are I mean kind of all one of the same, whatever, but who there's been mounting evidence that that that was not actually practiced. But they did like they did, I think, like skin people alive. Like that was a big thing. There's a lot of pictures of like button. It's the second time I talk about skinning people alive in three days.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, when was the other time?

SPEAKER_00

Jamie was telling me that she thinks that there is a cap for pain. Like you can get reached a certain point where your body and I thought it was an interesting conversation. I so I was talking about people being skinned alive. I'm just like, at what point do you think that was just like it's not doesn't hurt any more than it did five seconds ago.

SPEAKER_04

I'll interject with having a baby. It hurts. Now I did have drugs, but you weren't being skinned alive. I wasn't being skinned alive at the time. Yeah, in and skinned inside out alive. Um it hurts. And I would say you de that's mine. That's mine. Oh that's my water. Let's get your dirty hands from the water.

SPEAKER_03

You go to the hell where people are skinned alive. It's that simple.

SPEAKER_04

Um But it's not it is not the pain. It is the it's not the pain itself, it is the ongoing pain. It's like the contractions and pushing hurt. And you get a break, and then it comes back and it doesn't hurt any worse, but you're just so fatigued by it. Yes, yes.

Community, Dan Harmon, And Tropes

SPEAKER_00

And you had a 30-hour labor with Kirk?

SPEAKER_04

27.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That was rough.

SPEAKER_04

I wasn't pushing the whole time, but no, but you were pushing for three and a half hours. Yeah, it's it was not fun. Clerk's was easier.

SPEAKER_00

To the point where they were like basically setting up a C section. They're like, and then she came out the last second.

SPEAKER_04

The last second.

SPEAKER_00

Last second.

SPEAKER_04

There was a timer.

SPEAKER_00

There was.

SPEAKER_04

And they were like, ten. If she doesn't come out, nine. The guy's like slicing his knife. He's just like like a Japanese uh banging them at the What's the hot the chef?

SPEAKER_00

We're both making fun of him in two completely different ways. You're talking hibachi girl. I'm talking about a greedy barbarian who's ready for a turkey leg.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, baby turkey leg.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, so sweet.

SPEAKER_04

Moving on.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, go ahead.

SPEAKER_04

Can you remember this one? What's your I can't believe people uh other people don't know this. Hack.

unknown

Oh.

SPEAKER_04

Can you remember anything from it?

SPEAKER_00

Is this just a general like ask Reddit kind of thing? Oh. I I No, I don't remember anything on it.

SPEAKER_04

Aww. Well that's tell me about that.

SPEAKER_00

Why won't you open it up and look at it? I am!

SPEAKER_04

Goodness gracious. They talk about using hand warmers.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Um as you can use them in a Ziploc bag and they will cool off and you can get more hours of heat. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

Isn't that something? Who cares about that? Is that like the top um post?

SPEAKER_04

Oh, you people who use Windows computers, you can hit everybody write this down. You can hit the Windows key and V at the same time, and do you know what it does?

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_04

Instead of pasting, it opens your entire clipboard.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that's right, yeah. And it'll save a history of it. I thought that one was cool. That is pretty cool. And of course did not do it.

SPEAKER_04

Someone wrote, This is great, and I will immediately forget all about it.

SPEAKER_00

It's probably me.

SPEAKER_04

Welcome to Rob's Reddit Thread.

SPEAKER_00

Don't by the way, read by username.

SPEAKER_04

I'm not going to. I don't even know what it is.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you. Well, it's in there somewhere.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. All right. Um, let's see. Yeah, these are all computer dumb, nerdy computers. When purchasing citrus fruit, select heavy ones. Because they're more likely to be fresh or juicy.

SPEAKER_00

I used that at Aldi from this point forward. Okay, I do remember reading that now.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Alton Brown taught us that.

SPEAKER_00

Did he?

SPEAKER_04

Mm-hmm. That's what they say. But I love Alton's. Did you ever watch him?

SPEAKER_00

I What was his show called?

SPEAKER_04

Good Eats.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he had the same kind of appeal as like uh Jamie uh Jamie from Mythbusters or Totally. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Jamie's the cute one, right? With the mustache.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, kind of like a like a charming nerd.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Very cute. Um, okay. They hated each other too well.

SPEAKER_00

Did you know that?

SPEAKER_04

That's what I've heard. Do you think that's true?

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah, I do.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, our daughter's calling us on your phone.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Can you answer it?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, answer it.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. Hey babe.

SPEAKER_02

Um the keys to the Highlander die is locked right now. And I have all my stuff out of it that I need, but just like oh, I can just hold it because I have to. Yeah, I don't know. Sorry.

SPEAKER_04

When's your next performance?

SPEAKER_02

Um I have all my stuff that I need for it. It's just like when that's over, I won't have way to get it.

SPEAKER_04

So okay, yes. But you can take the the key actually comes out and you can use it to unlock the car. Oh, for real? Yeah, but you can't use it to turn the car on.

Steven Seagal’s Songs From The Crystal Cave

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but you can hold it.

SPEAKER_04

But you can hold the key fob right up next to the start button, and that should work.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

So try all that. After you're all done, try all that and then keep us posted.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, cool. All right, love you. Okay, we can start walking, guys. Sorry.

SPEAKER_04

That's okay, bye. Love you.

unknown

Bye, love you.

SPEAKER_04

Sorry, everybody.

SPEAKER_00

You gotta cut that? Uh maybe. I don't know. Is it on is it on Reddit that the little tip?

SPEAKER_04

Here's a good one. Minding your own business really does reduce stress.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. I saved that.

SPEAKER_04

That was under I can't believe other people. Okay. Uh what's the smallest hill you're willing to die on?

SPEAKER_00

Is this what's the context?

SPEAKER_04

It's just that's what it says.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_04

Um why would you save that, first of all?

SPEAKER_00

I I must have thought something about it was interesting.

SPEAKER_04

Uh okay. Adobe is not a piece of software. It's a whole suite. Yeah. Is that what got you in? Tell us about that. Tell us why that would be a hill someone would be willing to buy on.

SPEAKER_00

There's just they're just the the way people talk about um companies that have uh offerings of let's say, I don't know how many there's at least a dozen Adobe products, if not more. If you click count on the little sub-stuff and plugins and whatnot that they upsell you on. Um but somebody might say, you know, we uh oh, edit you edit your you need to edit your your podcast in Adobe, you know. Or somebody'd be like, what's Photoshop? You know, basically people confusing here's an example. Like Go Guardian's a product that we use at the school. Uh-huh. And we they're they have like five different products products. But somebody will complain about Go Guardian, or I'll say or not complain about it necessarily, but they'll I'll I'll say, hey, you know, we bit maybe able to pull that up in Go Guardian, and they'll be like, that won't do anything. I'll be like, no, not I mean the web admin console, the one that filters the content, the reason we bought it in the first place, like the mother product, not teacher, the one that everyone else use uses the or and they'll be like, oh no, I mean beacon, the one that's the one that looks and sees if kids are gonna you know call self-harm. So people use the but they just latch on to the this guy says I'd like this on a t-shirt.

SPEAKER_04

Adobe is a company and it doesn't work for anyone.

SPEAKER_00

They are they've really gone downhill. I I wouldn't give them a dime anymore.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Adobe. Take that.

SPEAKER_00

That's how I feel about it. Oh Jake, that some people love them, honestly. I just don't I could probably be convinced, but I've you could do a ton of stuff with Resolve, DaVinci Resolve for video editing, GIMP for photo editing. Um you can use tons of stuff for like Python for PDF creation and editing, Canva. You can use um for audio editing. I've been using uh Audacity and Cakewalk. All that stuff is completely free. Most of it's open source. So I have no need for Adobe myself.

SPEAKER_04

You don't need to pay a broken product like Adobe to work for it.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm not against people pay charging, but like, but like Adobe does make some pretty killer software, but I've had a lot of trouble with them in the past. They don't support their legacy stuff. They've anything that they sunset, they basically just say good luck.

SPEAKER_03

Sorry.

SPEAKER_00

Like I've had to like I've had to have like go to like Newgrounds. Do you remember Newgrounds?

SPEAKER_04

No.

SPEAKER_00

You remember like Berninating the country? Yes, yes.

SPEAKER_04

Like the Burninator? Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

What was that guy's name?

SPEAKER_04

Uh Trogdor?

SPEAKER_00

Trogdor. That was like a new a Newgrounds uh cartoon or whatever.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_00

I'm pretty sure it was. I've had to go on this old piece of legacy newgrounds software to convert Swift files to MP4s.

SPEAKER_04

You're nerd showing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but what I'm trying to say is you'd think Adobe would support that in like the newer versions of animation. Even though it's even though they sunset Flash, which whatever, that's fine. You should still involve uh you should still offer some at least a converter or a script or some documented process or something. They don't care.

SPEAKER_04

They don't care.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, well, they don't care about it.

SPEAKER_04

That's what that's the takeaway.

SPEAKER_00

All right, you ready?

SPEAKER_04

Next?

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_04

Which sci-fi series? Don't give me a start on Apple. Yeah. We're not going down that road. The timer is running right now. Yeah, we got eight minutes left.

SPEAKER_00

Well, Caroline's still two, so we've got to add a couple.

SPEAKER_04

So I'll call it.

SPEAKER_00

We probably have to end early because of that.

SPEAKER_04

It should work. She should be able to get in the car. Okay. Uh which sci-fi series are flawless from start to finish? You saved that one. Do you remember getting anything out of it?

SPEAKER_00

I think somebody might have I think the expanse was probably on there.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, but this was only eight months ago.

SPEAKER_00

Um watch that.

SPEAKER_04

Firefly was excellent for all one season.

SPEAKER_00

All one season, is what it says.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Firefly was really good. Yeah. That was really sad. Biggest robbery from TV is what it says.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah. Is Farscape on there?

SPEAKER_04

I don't know. What was that noise, Gruber? I don't know. Can you think of other things you liked, sci-fi? Expanse for me was the best.

SPEAKER_00

All this from start to finish?

SPEAKER_04

Expanse wasn't well said.

SPEAKER_00

And you can't say that about Star Trek any Star Trek, I don't think. Next generation didn't get good till about halfway through the second season.

SPEAKER_04

Um, Scavengers Rain.

SPEAKER_00

Scavenger's Rain, but that was only a season.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. I think that's the key.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, just get canceled.

SPEAKER_04

Just stop while you're ahead. Get canceled.

SPEAKER_00

But uh they got picked up by Amazon. The last season wasn't great.

SPEAKER_04

It was not great. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I didn't love it.

SPEAKER_04

No. I didn't love the little But I loved it up until that moment. Oh, yeah. Oh, that was that was I don't know if it was just the time in our life, but it's not a good thing. What else is on there? What else? I haven't seen anything. Well, ju ju jujutsu Kaisen. Oh wait, never mind. That's an ad. Sorry, everyone. Um Take My Love. Wait, what's on what's this from? Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand. I don't care, I'm still free. You can't take Sky Only Song over there. That's the theme from Firefly.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my gosh. I think Joss Whedon wrote that one, didn't he?

SPEAKER_04

Somebody been like, stick to what you know, Joss, and it ain't song right now.

SPEAKER_00

That song doesn't even have any.

SPEAKER_04

Babylon 5 keeps coming up. I've never even heard of that.

SPEAKER_00

You even heard of it? I don't think so. I've definitely heard of it. Should we watch it? Maybe. We love it.

SPEAKER_04

Scavenger's reins on here. Yeah, we should be we should be taking notes.

SPEAKER_00

Second Babylon. Well, that's why I saved it, baby.

SPEAKER_04

That's there we go. See. That's why we know. Um, Flawless. Oh, Farscape.

SPEAKER_00

Farscape is on there.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Did you like that?

SPEAKER_04

Remind me which one that was.

SPEAKER_00

So one with the where they have like actual puppets instead of like computer.

SPEAKER_04

Like the guy that floats around. It's like the count or something like that.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like that was starting to get pretty good.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, but didn't it was it over? Did we not finish it?

SPEAKER_00

No, we didn't even finish the first season.

SPEAKER_04

Why not? I thought we liked it.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. We did like it. I think. Okay, we like that.

SPEAKER_04

We could put that back on.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Somebody wrote Dark. I guess it's sci-fi, but it's more just time travel.

SPEAKER_00

Dark, you want to talk about the audience who won't like it? I don't know why I can't get in there. I couldn't get two side. We tried to get back into it. Two uh sci-fi pieces of media that I wish I liked, but I don't, that everyone else does. Blade Runner and Dark.

SPEAKER_04

I like the Blade Runner movie we watched. Twenty forty nine.

SPEAKER_00

It was fine.

SPEAKER_04

I just can't I the first one was so boring. Uh I did read the book.

SPEAKER_00

I've seen it three times and I cannot get into it.

SPEAKER_04

I you should read the book. Android's Dream's Dream Is that what it is? Electric Sleep. Oh, yeah, yeah. What is it? Electric Sheep? Android's Dream of the Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I think that's what it is.

SPEAKER_04

Is that uh Buddy Jared loaned me that book.

SPEAKER_00

Who wrote that?

SPEAKER_04

Gosh, I don't remember. Sorry.

SPEAKER_00

Scalsey wrote a book to put something on the side. Yeah, John Skullsey is his name?

SPEAKER_04

Android's Dream of Electric Sleep. That's what that's what Blake is based on.

SPEAKER_00

I didn't think he was that old.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, well.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, hey, correction scrolls. Who wrote that book? Uh oh, oh my gosh, who is it? It was uh some big huge sci-fi author.

SPEAKER_04

I'm mad that no one has written down forensic files. The X files.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, well was it fall start to finish?

SPEAKER_04

I think it must have definitely had been a bit of a good idea.

SPEAKER_00

Reddit is pretty good about this kind of thing.

SPEAKER_04

They are beacon of truth, harbinger of truth. Um, okay. You have so many work dumb work questions on here. Nobody wants to hear about that. Chrome. You have so many Chromebook questions on here. Tell us a little about Chromebooks, Rob. Talk about Chromebooks and why you would have a lot of pinned saved Chromebook posts.

SPEAKER_00

Chromebooks are the ultimate love hate for me. Um first of all, Chromebooks, if if you're just used to an educational environment where all you're used to is crappy student Chromebooks. Um they can be much better. I have a Chromebook I use for work. Now, half the time I'm remoting into Windows and Linux machines. However, it does work quite well for most things. Um it's a pretty powerful little laptop. I think I have like a 15-inch.

SPEAKER_04

But why do you have so many saved?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, but just I'm all oh, sorry. I'm I'm getting into that. I don't care about I always I I have to manage them. I have to manage 3,000 Chromebooks give or take.

SPEAKER_04

And um as a as a person who's married to an IT person, if I hear about Chromebooks, there was a time, maybe within the last year, where if I had to hear one more thing about a Chromebook, I was gonna I was gonna leave you. It was getting bad.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

It's a lot of Chromebook talk.

SPEAKER_00

I've lost I've said I I bet half of my F word volume from the last five years has been dedicated to Chromebook content. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

All right, moving on. Here's one.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so that's why I save a lot of them.

SPEAKER_04

Here's a great one. This this post that you saved is titled Games for Girlfriend Who Sucks at Gaming. Tell us why you might posted that one.

SPEAKER_00

It was the spirit of spirit of the post.

SPEAKER_04

I do not suck at gaming. Someone else wrote busted. The spirit of the post.

SPEAKER_00

That's one of the reasons I do love Reddit. Stuff like username checks out is is something that never gets old for me. I always laugh at that. You know what I'm talking about?

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_00

When somebody has like stucky stucky girlfriend video game player as their username. Somebody's like username checks. That's a stupid example. It's usually extremely stupid.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, if I was going to start a Reddit thread, I would definitely call myself Stucky Girlfriend.

SPEAKER_00

But you could like change your display name for post sometimes, like if you want. Anyways.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, it lists we've got to be.

SPEAKER_00

But I wanted to find a game that you I think Hogwarts Legacy might have been in there.

SPEAKER_04

Listen, it says she's played and liked Hogwarts Legacy Animal Crossing.

SPEAKER_00

That's why I saved it. It's like every game you've played.

SPEAKER_04

Shut up, the internet. You don't know me.

SPEAKER_00

There you go. Anything on there appeal to you?

SPEAKER_04

Uh I'm in a new. I'm searching for a new thread. I did love Hogwarts Legacy though. When another one comes out, I'm getting it.

SPEAKER_00

Cool.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, here's a sweet one. Need a jazz tune for a good cry. I'm feeling a bit emotional and missing someone. I don't know much about jazz, but any recommendations for these soulful heart tugging tracks?

SPEAKER_00

Huh.

SPEAKER_04

You pinned that one.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Yeah, that appeals to me.

Holiday Foods, Eggnog Lore, And Family Bits

SPEAKER_04

Okay. Goodbye pork pie hat.

SPEAKER_00

That was uh as a suggestion. Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Uh that's a funny one.

SPEAKER_00

Jeff Beck covers that song.

SPEAKER_04

That's a funny name. Tell me about Goodbye Pork Pie Hat. Why do you think it's called that?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. Corrections Corner.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. Uh Blue and Green by Miles Davis.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Any of these making you cry?

SPEAKER_00

I'm getting a little teary.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. Uh Chet Baker sings. I get along without you very well. I fall in love too easily.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think I know that one.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. Peace, Peace by Bill Evans. P-I-E-C-E-P-E-A-C-E.

SPEAKER_00

It's the second time Bill Evans has come up. I don't know if I know that that song. I think I need to uh maybe have a little sub uh uh consumption corner. I think so. Where I might go through this one. Can you double save that?

SPEAKER_04

How do you do that?

SPEAKER_00

You can't.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. I was like, I don't know. Don't face it.

SPEAKER_00

I want to listen to Peace Peace.

SPEAKER_04

Bill Evans, My Foolish Heart.

SPEAKER_00

We talked about the undercurrent Jim Jim Hall and Bill Evans album. The one with the look like a dead girl was floating on the coast.

SPEAKER_04

Waltz for Debbie.

SPEAKER_00

Uh Waltz for Debbie. Okay. I know I've heard that.

SPEAKER_04

Uh Dexter Gordon ballads. Don't explain, and I'm a fool to want you are devastating.

SPEAKER_00

Oh. One more.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, one more. Oh, pressure. Hold on. Sorry, I gotta turn off the timer, everyone. Let's see. This one's pretty this is a pretty fun one. Interview red flags. Was this when you were this is a year ago.

SPEAKER_00

I I probably just thought it was interesting.

SPEAKER_04

Huh.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, you know, it might have been because I was thinking about interviewing for somebody for uh for your job. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

For that job. Yeah, that's what I was gonna say. Um, it doesn't say anything good.

SPEAKER_00

Uh move on.

SPEAKER_04

Ask them okay, sorry. Just kidding, don't read that one.

SPEAKER_00

I saved it for some reason. It's gotta have some gems in there.

SPEAKER_04

You have to talk while I look.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, okay. Well, um interview.

SPEAKER_04

Tell me what you think would be an interviewer of job.

SPEAKER_00

I felt bad one time. Uh uh, there was a guy interviewing for a job and uh it as a IT guy in the data center. And we one of the questions we always asked everybody was if you were a drink, what kind would you be? I was just on there, and I I like that question, so I never I always liked opportunities to ask. This guy, he's a heavy set fella. He was a sweaty looking kind of guy, and he said sweet tea, and I said, Would you consider that for a nickname if you worked here? He said, No. I wouldn't.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, and you'd be like, oh I was like I was like Thanks for your time.

SPEAKER_00

I felt a little bit bad because he he just looked like he was almost hurt by it. I kind of want to be like, yeah, you're definitely not working here. Yeah, you're gonna do that. Number of A, I can't call you sweet T. And B, you're gonna make me feel bad about it.

SPEAKER_04

Well, you don't know what happened to him.

SPEAKER_00

But I did feel a little bit bad. You don't know what happened to him. You probably had a heart attack.

SPEAKER_04

All right. What worrisome trend?

SPEAKER_00

Sorry, I hope I sweet T, I hope you're doing okay. Sweet T, if you did pass, you're welcome to our show.

SPEAKER_04

We'll give you a free takeout.

SPEAKER_00

You can be another usher. You can work with uh Mista Mesa lady. You guys could team up and work the uh make sure people are sitting in the right seats.

SPEAKER_04

It's important, sweet T. Okay. Last one. Okay. What worrisome trend in society are you beginning to notice?

SPEAKER_01

Hmm.

SPEAKER_04

This one I'm guilty of.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

I don't even want to say it because you're gonna hate me and you already think it.

SPEAKER_00

Everybody's guilty of something.

SPEAKER_04

Be leaving all the advice in TikTok or Instagram reels without doing any research.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, you don't I don't do that. I save Reddit posts.

SPEAKER_04

Well, it it's an edit to add Reddit to Facebook.

SPEAKER_00

Seriously.

SPEAKER_04

Um we're all idiots. Everybody's obsessed with media literacy.

SPEAKER_00

Reddit is my social media. Like if I had to pick a thing that I'm on all the time that I probably should be on less, it's definitely Reddit.

SPEAKER_04

How about lack of critical thinking? Is that a worrisome trend you're noticing?

SPEAKER_00

A hundred percent.

SPEAKER_04

I agree.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but at the same time, I gotta wonder if that's something to just age, yeah. But I think it could be one of those things, and I'm sure there's a name for this, but as you become better at the thing or that you're saying that other people aren't good at, um like critical thinking, for instance, I've become much better at critical thinking over the years. Yeah. Um because you know, my job, I have to do it every single day. And it just becomes so obvious when that other people don't ever people don't even try. They don't even try. They really don't.

SPEAKER_04

And it's because they have too many resources.

SPEAKER_00

I could give a lot of stories of just the last week where people are like, I'm like, dude, are you kidding me?

SPEAKER_04

Right. Just ask the first question. Ask the first question.

SPEAKER_00

Ask the first question, yeah. Convince me that you actually want this done. Well, right. Let's start there. Anyways. But yeah, that is a huge thing. And I do believe it's getting it's just so so many things are so easy to get and start and engage with now that at the second there's any hurdle whatsoever, people are out.

SPEAKER_04

I'm gonna say something that people are not people are not gonna like.

SPEAKER_00

Go ahead.

SPEAKER_04

I feel like that has happened in the medical field where there's so many tests that are available that not all, but many health professionals don't look at a whole picture anymore. They're not looking at all of the tests together with the person's age and lifestyle and you know, all of these things that I feel like doctors in the in the olden days, pre-2000 pretty much, who didn't have access to as much information had to actually think critically about all the evidence. I mean, they were a bit more like detectives than than doctors have to be today. Not to say that they're not brilliant, but I don't think, in my opinion, that a lot of them follow it.

SPEAKER_00

It's a side effect of you're right.

SPEAKER_04

It's a side it's a like you're saying, the read there's so many reasons.

SPEAKER_00

Same exact thing in IT. Same exact thing. It's a side effect of a good thing, which is lots of deep specializations. You get people who are just wizards in certain fields, but what often happens, and you get some studs of you know, in the medical professions and and IT, and and in really anything that has that has a bunch of different tunnels and avenues and things to get good at. But yeah, you're right. The best folks tend to be the ones who came from I'm I'm sure there's there is a brain surgeon out there who started out started out as like a triage wartime paramedic or something, you know. Yeah who's just like has the full breadth of knowledge that they would, you know. Yeah. Or but but it's a yeah, it's a side effect of specializations where you you know, there's people who get paid 200 grand a year to work on really high-level databases who don't know how to install the software that they're working on. Like, I'm not exaggerating this. Yeah, uh I used to work with those folks a lot. And they could they could talk your ear off and they can tell you all sorts of incredible things about what they are good at and what they get paid for. Hopefully, some can't. Some are also lying. Some know how to play the game and throw the right people under the bus.

SPEAKER_04

That's not new.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Anyways.

SPEAKER_04

Alright, the last one on here that I'll say is living your entire life through a screen. iPad kids starting to grow up and they can't have normal conversations with others. This was a This is a worrisome trend in society.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah, kids don't know how to be bored.

SPEAKER_04

They do not.

SPEAKER_00

Louis C.K.'s got to get bit on that if I recall.

SPEAKER_04

It's kind of crazy.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's not even really a it's not even really funny, I don't think. I remember being being like, eh, this is too real, Louie.

SPEAKER_04

Louie.

SPEAKER_00

Little Louie.

SPEAKER_04

He likes to go out.

SPEAKER_00

Speaking of people who got in trouble.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, thank you.

SPEAKER_00

I think he's sort of out of it. I think he's kinda He made it out. I think he made it to the other side. Right. I think he was uh yeah, I don't need to say what he was doing. You can hear him talk about it. He's I think he's pretty open with him, if I'm not mistaken.

SPEAKER_04

Well, people can change.

SPEAKER_00

People can, yeah. And if if they have really funny stories that pretty much told us he was doing this in his jokes. It's not his fault. He tried to tell us.

SPEAKER_04

Was it the deer? Were the deer the ones pressing the charges?

unknown

No.

Reddit Saves Tour: Torture History To Jazz For Tears

SPEAKER_04

Okay. Sorry.

SPEAKER_00

Uh the deer. Sorry.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know about that.

SPEAKER_00

You said you didn't want to watch it.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

It's a horror movie. You said you didn't want to watch it. Well, it's a it's like a kind of a it's it's a horror movie. I don't know anything about it, but it's like very Jordan Peel made it and it's like got a lot of racial undertones. I think that's why you didn't want to watch it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

What do you have against racism?

SPEAKER_04

Well Well, it's not that I'm against racism. That'd be a terrible soundbite to have. It it hurts me. It hurts me.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's terrible.

SPEAKER_04

And then if you're gonna combine it with horror, I don't think I'm gonna.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know where it's going. It just started to get weird. But they hit a deer in the beginning. And the guy, I can't I can't remember the actor's name. He plays uh Eric from Billy Madison, and he's also in Cabin in the Woods, which is a great horror movie. I don't love horror movies, by the way.

SPEAKER_04

That was a great one. That was delightful.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. If if I could say that about a horror movie. Um he's in it and he's talking about how much he hates deer, and he's like, good, because they hit one on the way. He's like, good. Every time I pass one on the road, I'm glad it's dead. I'm just gonna go. Hey, I'm not sorry.

SPEAKER_04

I'm not sorry it's hunting season, I'm not gonna lie.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

It's a bit like uh dodge them frogger around here.

SPEAKER_00

It is, and they're all over the place.

SPEAKER_04

And I've hit one once? I've hit more cow than deer.

SPEAKER_00

That's true, you've hit two cows.

SPEAKER_04

Two cows and one deer.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe it's you.

SPEAKER_04

Maybe I'm the problem?

SPEAKER_00

No, I'm j Did you hit Kitty? Was that Kitty Wills? Don't you say that about my wife? Hey, um. I was trying to find a way to shoehorn Uncle Dan into this. Oh my god. Then we have a we have talk about Uncle Dan. Oh, well, you know what? We could talk about uh I think Uncle Dan was how about this? This is this is this is preaching.

SPEAKER_04

If Uncle Dan ever listens to this, he's gonna be like, you guys stop me.

SPEAKER_00

Uncle Dan's brother Tim.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

He he's a pretty decent guitar player. Is he really? Yeah, I've heard him play uh I think I heard him play Acadian Driftwood on the guitar. This is a band song, which I believe is on Wow. Which is on uh doesn't even matter. They've taken us on a drive. Southern Cross, which is what Christmas Must Be Tonight was supposed to be on, but instead it got bumped to the 77 album Islands.

SPEAKER_04

We're still this is still that's wonderful. I was with as soon as you said he played a song by the band, I was done. I didn't need to hear any of the rest of that. I was with you, I loved it. The connection has been made. Thank you, Uncle Tim.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know if a Katie and the album. I think it was. I think it was. It's a good album. I know I've heard it before. Just do you like the band? How much I do, yeah. How much band you listen to?

SPEAKER_04

Not much, but what I've I've been learning more of it, you know, for work. And I'm I'm literally thrilled to have this song, Christmas Must Be Tonight.

SPEAKER_00

Christmas Must Be Tonight.

SPEAKER_04

Uh in my repertoire now because I have sorry, I'm so sorry. I have some people that I see that are like in their sixties and shut up. And they like some of this, you know, newer music.

SPEAKER_00

Right. Well, I mean, it's only uh forty seven years old, or if it came out in the sixties? 77.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, okay, okay. My people are in their sixties. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. So they were in their twenties, right, when that was coming out. So people that are a little younger than my mom, like a little younger than our parents, are starting to creep into my It's starting to die. It's starting to die, starting to get sick and die. And their music is a little is a little newer, relatively speaking, than what a lot of what I've been doing the first part of my career. So uh the band did have a Christmas song that is not let it snow, let it snow, you know, any of that kind of stuff is really nice. I really need to learn the Eagles, too. I'm gonna work on that this year as well.

SPEAKER_00

You know, I kind of wanted to hear the Eagles. I think the Eagles could cover this song pretty darn well if they haven't. I couldn't find one, but it sounds like it could be an Eagle song. Well, it's it's very distinctly banned. The band has a s has a sound. I'm just saying, I shouldn't I shouldn't say it sounds like it should be an Eagle song.

SPEAKER_04

What I mean to say is it could be done well by the Eagles.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, the Eagles could make it make it pretty great. Because it it is a great song. I don't so have you have you heard this before?

SPEAKER_04

Ye from you, okay, but not otherwise. I don't remember when I was. And from like a couple years ago.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I probably first heard it. I've been wanting to learn it so we could because you know every now and then somebody says, like, hey, could you play something for church? And it'd be cool to play a like you're saying, like a good song. Like it's not that there aren't a million great Christmas songs, and a lot of them are the Christmas carols are beautiful, but they're hard and they're high. Yeah, and I'm not gonna do one.

SPEAKER_04

You know what I mean? That being A number one. I'm not gonna do one.

SPEAKER_00

So there. So but I would like to do this song. So I'm like, I need to learn that because we were talking about Robbie Robertson and all the work he's done with Scorsese, because we were talking about the Irishman.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I think.

SPEAKER_00

I had him on my mind. I was trying to think of a Christmas song because we're picking Christmas songs. We did Baby It's Cold Outside last time. Um and I was thinking like Donnie Hathaway, It's Christmas, or this Christmas. And I saw it, I'm like, there's two chords in this song. I don't I I'm gonna have to learn things. We're not gonna have a lot of time this week.

SPEAKER_04

I already made you learn something last week. Well, the what chords are. I was just gonna say this from a music theory standpoint. It's interesting to me because it's very straightforward. There's no chords that don't belong, they're all part of the G family.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

However, the melody does some things that leave it f open, makes it feel open. It does. I mean, it closes off must be that. That's like a you know, pretty good ending. But the verses and then that little the part of the chorus where it goes dun dun dun, like where it repeats twice.

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah, yeah, yeah. The E minor to the G at the end. When it's going to the buried alive, oh that part, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Those I don't know, they're just more, it's slightly more interesting than you think it's gonna be, based on the fact that it's got some simple chords.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Um so good job.

SPEAKER_04

Totally.

SPEAKER_00

But it it really like it's it's such a well-structured song and such a simple song.

SPEAKER_04

It's super good.

SPEAKER_00

The band is really good at just filling sonic space. Like, you know what I mean? What do you mean? Well, they just they're really that's they're really simple. Like they have they have three pretty much three singers. Um I'm sure there's probably I'm sure everybody in the band song at some point. But yeah, you got uh uh Danko was the uh I think he's the bass player. And he I don't I'd look up his name for the I don't I don't know him by name, but Levon Helm was a drummer, he sang. Um uh what's his face? Um oh my gosh, I'm blanking. Anyways, I I know they had three singers. And uh Robbie Robertson wrote this song, he's a g guitar player, and you had uh um what's his face? Garth Hudson, he's the keyboard player, he plays like That dude that guy, I don't think the band would be the band without that guy. You could probably say that for any of them, but he is just this mad scientist on anything with keys, including accordions. The dude plays a saxophone.

SPEAKER_04

Do you know how hard it is to play in an accordion?

SPEAKER_00

Play in an I can imagine.

SPEAKER_04

Play an accordion. It's very hard. You have to be strong enough to push, because then you're generating the sound by squeezing it and pulling it apart, and they're heavy. And one hand, while you're doing that, while you're squeezing it in and out, one hand is playing buttons, pushing buttons to make the bellows ring a chord, and the other hand is playing a melody on a keyboard. So you're literally doing three things at once.

SPEAKER_00

And oftentimes singing, too.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, definitely.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. That's pretty weird.

SPEAKER_04

Go to a German restaurant, those people they should be getting paid more.

SPEAKER_00

So like uh Weird Owl. Weird Al's dad, wasn't he? Uh isn't he a great cool?

SPEAKER_04

I l I have no idea.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. But we don't talk about Weird Ow.

SPEAKER_04

Anyway.

SPEAKER_00

Anyways, Garth Hudson is awesome. I've I've seen him playing in like uh it just he's always fun to watch. Like he he's just a he looks like a I don't know. I have like mad scientist vibes for him. I don't really know the band that well. I've always liked them. My buddy Dan Danny V left a band, I think it was their self-titled, um, C D in my car. And the rest was history.

SPEAKER_04

Now here we are.

SPEAKER_00

Listened to it a million times, and uh I've kind of since hit him up every now and then. I I I really love I've seen The Last Waltz, although I'll probably rewatch that. I haven't seen that in a long time. That's a Scorsese. That's how Robbie Robertson and Scorsese got hooked up. Do you have uh that and cocaine?

SPEAKER_04

Do you have a cover? Cover band.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, going straight for the covers? We talk about existing covers?

SPEAKER_04

I don't know. Who would you like to hear cover, or is there a cover you like? I don't care. Well, um This is basically your podcast. I'm just here to keep you on the realm.

SPEAKER_00

Honey, get out of here. So this is on this is on Islands. Is it the name of the album?

SPEAKER_04

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_00

I listened to that this week as well.

SPEAKER_04

Does it have other Crixmax music on it?

SPEAKER_00

No, that's it. This was on Elton John's Christmas party album.

SPEAKER_04

I love Elton John.

SPEAKER_00

Everyone had Bruce Springsteen and the Rottenett's on there, just a blot of Christmas party.

SPEAKER_04

If you want to get me a present, I want Elton John for Christmas.

SPEAKER_00

He he put on a great concert.

SPEAKER_04

He did.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um it is Train did a cover of it.

SPEAKER_04

Oh. It's pretty much. Oh, yeah. I like Train. I like Train.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they're fine. It pretty much just did kind of a just a note-for-note cover of it, kind of like what Weezer did with all their songs. It's kind of like, eh. Yeah. I mean, it's good. It's not bad, but I want to do something just a little different. Kate Hudson did a cover of it. Whoa. Can she sing? Yeah, she can, actually. Um her I can't remember the name. I think it's like her boyfriend or fiance or I don't know. He's I think playing guitar, although I can't remember his name. He's pretty good.

SPEAKER_04

Wasn't she with uh oh no, I'm thinking of that other lady. Um Gwynneth Paltra, wasn't she with Coldplay? Who cares?

SPEAKER_00

She was with she was dating Chris Robinson from the Black Crows.

SPEAKER_04

Oh. Who was what's Coldplay's name? Chris Martin?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. Yeah. I like some Coldplay. I like that uh winna rule the world. That's Coldplay, isn't it?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I think so.

SPEAKER_00

What's the name of that song?

SPEAKER_04

Is that Coldplay?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I wasn't crazy about that. The Coldplay is fine. They're fine.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, well, do you want to know who I want to hear and do it, who I want to hear do a cover?

SPEAKER_00

Uh Hollow Notes did it as well.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, sorry.

SPEAKER_00

I'm telling you who did it. Hollow Notes was pretty good. Okay. It was okay. It was a little different. They did I like their chorus. They did some cool stuff with Harmony.

SPEAKER_04

It's like Welcome to Holland.

SPEAKER_00

It was. It was also on the Scrooged soundtrack.

SPEAKER_04

Hmm. What the heck is that?

SPEAKER_00

You've never seen Scrooged?

SPEAKER_04

No.

SPEAKER_00

It's a Christmas Carol with Bill Murray. It's kind of like a Bill who? Bill Murray.

SPEAKER_04

Bill Mary.

SPEAKER_00

Bill Mary.

SPEAKER_04

Bill Mary, the Virgin Mary.

SPEAKER_00

It's I remember I've seen it a couple times as a kid. I don't know if it holds up. I'd imagine it probably does.

SPEAKER_04

I said I bet it doesn't.

SPEAKER_00

I think it's kind of interesting that uh Robbie Robertson is not as far as I could find, he's not a Christian. Huh. So he just wrote this song.

SPEAKER_04

Well, you know, he doesn't that's what because when you've talked about doing it at church, it doesn't really praise God.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I mean, it says the little baby boy give the people so much joy.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, but that's just a commentary.

SPEAKER_00

Mary carried the light. Yeah, I mean that's but it's not He's using it's actu it's actually extreme it's extremely biblical. Like the words he chooses for like swabbling and the you know um but he's literally just telling a story. Yeah, he's just taking Which is great.

SPEAKER_04

It's nothing wrong with it.

SPEAKER_00

He's doing what he does in a lot of his other songs um where he's taking the he's taking the the narrative perspective from like a common man, like Virgil Kane. You know, or I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

The night they drove old Dixie. Oh, okay. We talked about that. I get these random braid farts, so I can't remember name the name of a song that I've heard a thousand times.

SPEAKER_04

Um okay.

SPEAKER_00

But um but he anyway, so go ahead, go ahead. You want you want to share covers and you you're you you're not interested in all my the inf information about the album Islands because I could tell you don't want to You made me sit on this terrible stool. Do you want to switch? I don't like it.

SPEAKER_04

It's too late. We're almost done. We're almost done.

SPEAKER_00

There's other great songs on that album?

SPEAKER_04

Are any of them Christmas?

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_04

Was that supposed to be a Christmas song?

SPEAKER_00

What do you mean?

SPEAKER_04

I mean like were they like trying to mark like were they trying to make money off of it? Like um Kelly Clarkson.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know the details of how islands came together, but like I said, it was supposed to be on uh Northern Lights Southern Cross, which was two years prior. It did for whatever reason it didn't make this was like one of the last albums they put together before they broke up, and I think so anyway. And and they put just a bunch of stuff on there that they had, and this was one of them. I think that's more or less how it got on there. It was almost just like in the miscellaneous bucket. He wrote it after his son was born.

SPEAKER_04

Um Did he think his son was Jesus?

SPEAKER_00

I don't I don't believe so. I don't have that in my notes.

SPEAKER_04

Was his wife carrying light?

SPEAKER_00

No, no, I do have it. Yeah, nope, did not think his son was himself. Yeah. Uh but Right is Rain, Islands is a great song, it's an instrumental.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. Ooh. You haven't talked a single word.

SPEAKER_00

Twilight. I like that a lot.

SPEAKER_04

You haven't talked about a single instrumental today till just now.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

You're growing up.

SPEAKER_00

Georgia on my mind. They do a cool cover, though. Oh, I like that. It's pretty good. It's a pretty darn good cover. Um, so who would you like to hear cover cover this?

SPEAKER_04

The Avid Brothers.

SPEAKER_00

Ooh. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Here's why. Avid Brothers music is so straightforward. At least they're early, early albums. But I guess, and it's repetitive, but I can't stop. I love it so much, and I feel like this fits that and they could do a great job. Put some uh you know, mandolin and all that crap on there.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think they do an awesome job. Who who what's your f do you have a favorite Avon Brothers song?

SPEAKER_04

Um, I like that in the curve. Um where he says, uh uh it's about hitting the tree.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Fenders uh meet fenders, fenders meet whatever. I can't.

Critical Thinking, Screens, And Modern Life

SPEAKER_00

I don't remember, but I know I know I've heard the song. What's the one with uh love and hate b the The Ballad of Love and Hate of Love and Hate? That's there aren't a lot of songs that I find lyrically appealing on their own merit. I mean it's a great song, like the melody's interesting and stuff, but it's so simple and just repeats itself. Like a Gordon Lightfoot song.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

May you rest in peace. Yeah. But it's um that song, like it really pulls you in, especially if you know somebody with a similar relationship.

SPEAKER_04

The the lyric I like in that In the Curb is metal surrenders when oak trees meet fenders and something's go through the front seat of camera.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, I know I know exactly what song you're talking about. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

But anyway, that's who I want to hear do it. I also have a B side.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

But I bet you don't know it.

SPEAKER_00

This, by the way, folks, is with we like to play like a fantasy draft.

SPEAKER_04

Where have you been? This isn't news.

SPEAKER_00

You can have any dream cover you want. You can have any you have to pick a B side for this. Uh what's your B side?

SPEAKER_04

Okay, you don't know it. There's this Christmas, it's a Christmas song. And you don't know it.

SPEAKER_00

You don't know, I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

But it's called The Gift. And um, it's about a little girl who saves a bird with a broken wing.

SPEAKER_00

It this really honestly does sound familiar.

SPEAKER_04

I made you I've made you listen to it before. Uh it's just why would you say I don't know it? It's just so pretty and believable. It's like it's just such a pretty song. And the girl that's singing, it's written by a person called Stephanie Davis. But there's a singer on there and her name is A-S-E-L-I-N. A Celin? Aselin?

SPEAKER_00

I think it's Asseline. Lynn.

SPEAKER_04

Debison is her last name. And she's this little girl. And I I don't love little kids singing.

SPEAKER_00

I mean apostrophe Lynn. I mean hyphen.

SPEAKER_04

Anyway, I don't love child singers, but it has like a very folksy it just tells a story, and it's about a bird of the broken wing, and I think I think God saves it, heals it because she's all she has nothing else. She's poor, but she gives everything she has to try to heal this bird. And so then God heals the bird. I'm pretty sure is the premise of the story.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

I'm gonna learn it and I'm gonna sing it to you.

SPEAKER_00

I want to hear it, I'm looking forward to it.

SPEAKER_04

All right. That's mine.

SPEAKER_00

I it sounds honestly, it sounds way cheesier than I thought you would like it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it's just pretty, though. The melody.

SPEAKER_00

No, I'd love to love to hear it. Because the lyrics just sound awful.

SPEAKER_04

No, they do not. Anyway, what do you want to hear on your B side?

SPEAKER_00

On my B side, uh I man, I was struggling with that. Kelly's car started, by the way. It did?

SPEAKER_04

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

Hallelujah.

SPEAKER_04

Hallelujah, everybody.

SPEAKER_00

That is great.

SPEAKER_04

Now you can't cut that phone call because then no one will know what we're talking about.

SPEAKER_00

No one will know what we're talking about. Yeah. Clark opened the last one.

SPEAKER_04

I know, I've listened to it.

SPEAKER_00

So, um, okay, on my B side, I So I put first I had Snowblind Friend. Are you familiar with that? It's a Steppenwolf song.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

It's got a similar kind of vibe to it. Not lyrically. Lyrically, it's about a guy whose friend is his life is falling apart because of drugs. Cocaine.

SPEAKER_03

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_00

He he had is it Robbie Robertson? No. It's uh I don't know. I don't know the whole I don't know if it was actually about a guy. I'm sure it was. I think everybody had a friend who, if if they weren't themselves, who was had a cocaine problem.

SPEAKER_04

Everybody knows somebody.

SPEAKER_00

So, but it's a it's a great tune. It's got the same sort of vibe. It's kind of like happy. Can you know there's kind of like a happy groove to it? Snowblind Friend kind of has a happy groove, but it's about like almost the opposite. It's a kind of a uh a narrative of a you know, he's it one of those ones we like when you're said he wanted heaven, but praying was too slow. It's got a lot of religious overtones in it, but it's all about somebody who's just rock bottom, just chewed up. Yeah. This I thought it would be kind of like the same kind of uh musical kind of framework, similar, but which is completely different, like more of a hopeful message. I decided not. That's not my beast.

SPEAKER_04

I wouldn't but you're probably gonna tell me more about that one.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I love the song.

SPEAKER_04

Than the one that you did choose, I think.

SPEAKER_00

But it's one of my it's a great, it's one of my favorite songs. I like to take you on a little journey. There's a rule. Taking you on a journey, baby. And I think I'm gonna settle for Father and Son.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. Oh.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that song?

SPEAKER_04

Uh sing a little of it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I don't know any lyrics.

SPEAKER_04

I was singing Wild World.

SPEAKER_00

Find a wife.

SPEAKER_04

It's a really okay. It sounds like the Brady Bunch there.

SPEAKER_00

Can't wait to learn it. It's a it's a bon bon.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know it.

SPEAKER_00

They sing it in the in Guardians of the Galaxy episode two, or whatever the second one is.

SPEAKER_04

Movie?

SPEAKER_00

Where Michael Rooker's character dies. Oh, and he's like the father to spoilers. Oh shoot.

SPEAKER_04

Well, nobody knows who Michael Rucker is. Rooker. Rucker?

SPEAKER_00

People better know who Michael Rooker is. He's this is the third time he's come up on this podcast.

SPEAKER_04

You know, we're a podcast for the underdog. So if you don't like that, then you're you're the problem.

SPEAKER_00

It's a beautiful song. It's like one of those songs that if if if we s if we cover it, I'll probably have to practice it 50 times by myself so I don't cry when I sing it.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, you have a son.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but I do. And it's it's it's it's just really it's a nice song. It's acoustic, it's pretty, it's very lean, even more lean than this song. Um, and Robbie Robertson was inspired to write this song at the birth of his son. I just think it's it's a reach, but I it's I want to hear it. I think it's a nice pair. It's a birth of a son. A son and the sun. And um cover. I want to so I I had like I I I I have you could see like where I've kind of brainstormed through this. I have uh I had the Eagles on there, I had the Grateful Dead on there.

SPEAKER_04

But I was thinking I'd like the Grateful Dead, didn't you not?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it'd be great.

SPEAKER_04

But they are dead, so we're gonna have to wait.

SPEAKER_00

Most of them are. Um I'm thinking the doors.

SPEAKER_04

Wow.

SPEAKER_00

I'd like it to go something like this. I'd like it to be a real long opening. Manzarick and Krieger doing like a guitar.

SPEAKER_04

I think it needs an organ.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I want, but here's the thing. I want the organ to be kind of harsh in the beginning, like the crystal ship kind of organ, like kind of like a crystal cave.

SPEAKER_04

Do you know the song Crystal Ship? I don't.

SPEAKER_00

It's a good tune.

SPEAKER_04

But Crystal Caves, I know about those.

SPEAKER_00

Um, I don't know why some people hate on the doors. I don't I don't get it.

SPEAKER_04

I've said crystal caves.

SPEAKER_00

Steven Segal, baby. I'd love to hear Steven Segal do it. I'm building up to that. No, I'm just kidding.

SPEAKER_04

People don't like the doors.

SPEAKER_00

There are people don't like there's people don't like everybody. I'm sure there's plenty of people who hate the band.

SPEAKER_04

Can you hear my eyes? They're rolling.

SPEAKER_00

So I'd like for them to do that. Maybe uh Krieger doing like a Spanish kind of Krieger? Eddie Krieger. I think it's just the last name. Krieger, Kruger? It's Krieger. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know who he is. That's a joke.

SPEAKER_00

You don't have to second guess it's and then they go in, and then Morrison jumps in, starts singing, and then in the middle of it.

SPEAKER_03

Wow.

SPEAKER_00

In the second, after the second verse, he does like a long, like droning, like lizard king style reading of like Isaiah 61 or like some other like prophetic Old Testament.

SPEAKER_03

Like from the Messiah. Yeah. Yeah.

The Band’s “Christmas Must Be Tonight”

SPEAKER_00

And then it builds back up into like a big glowing warm, you know, Rhodes keyboard. And then he goes in like touch me. So you're making me style singing.

SPEAKER_04

Come on, come on, come on. Yeah. It's so it's kind of an epic.

SPEAKER_00

I want it to be, I want it three parts. I want this thing to be.

SPEAKER_04

So it's sort of like a queen Bohemian Rhapsody.

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah, you could say.

SPEAKER_04

In in form, anyway.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Like I said, we there's gonna be a point where we're gonna have to outlaw different cover artists like Queen.

SPEAKER_04

We've only said Queen once, and that was the same one.

SPEAKER_00

I know, I'm just saying there will be a time where we will have to say no queen for covers.

SPEAKER_04

Well, if you want to hear us do it.

SPEAKER_00

What about a movie?

SPEAKER_04

Oh gosh, you're right.

SPEAKER_00

One of the any soundtrack ideas.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, it's so religious. That and I hate religious movies. I love God and Jesus. I hate man-made movies about them.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. About them. It's kind of tough to capture the magic.

SPEAKER_04

It really is.

SPEAKER_00

Except for Bruce Almighty.

SPEAKER_04

Well, I was gonna say compassion.

SPEAKER_00

Zach Zach Alfin, I guess he's he's got Steve Carell on there, and he's like, he's like, what's your favorite? He's like, oh no, Evan Almighty, it was great. He's like, it was, it was good.

SPEAKER_04

You know what? It would go out nicely. Sorry, yes. It would go nicely.

SPEAKER_00

We need to start watching the same thing so we don't have each other's jokes.

SPEAKER_04

Who will do everything? If you're because you're always watching movies. Just kidding. Rob does a lot of stuff. He cut the chicken today, he did dishes, he put all the dinners away. He went and got a ultrasound.

SPEAKER_00

Ultrasound. I got a little oh, guess what?

SPEAKER_04

What? Wait, I have my movie.

SPEAKER_00

I have a little baby of my own.

SPEAKER_04

You do. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

In my throat.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, is it still there?

SPEAKER_00

Little thyroid baby.

SPEAKER_04

Is it but you don't get the results yet?

SPEAKER_00

No, I haven't.

SPEAKER_04

You don't know. It could be gone. Anyway, he's fine, everyone. Don't worry about it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, don't worry about it, guys.

SPEAKER_04

My, I think, even though this is a classic movie that doesn't need any new soundtracks on it, but a a scene like when Kevin makes up with the trash can man in Home Alone, that would be great for this song.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I agree. And I and I I had I was thinking Home Alone. Go ahead.

SPEAKER_04

By the way, the one of the assisted livings that I go to has I don't know why this strikes me as so funny because it seems very morbid to me given the home alone where they think that he's got dead bodies and they're like dissolving in that trash can as he's walking around spreading them out. Well, when you walk up to the front door of this assisted living, they have a huge like five-gallon trash can and it on a big old piece of paper taped on it. It says salt in red letters, and there's like two or three shovels just leaned up against the against the front, and I just can't. It's it makes me feel like they're putting they're putting people in that.

SPEAKER_00

Were you like sitting there with Butch and he's like, That's where they keep the bodies.

SPEAKER_04

It's like I have a couple people that live there that could that would definitely believe something like that. Anyway, that's but that's what I think. I think it would go nicely over a scene like that where some people come together.

SPEAKER_00

I was thinking so too. I was thinking because I was thinking like a John Hughes, trying to think of like a John Hughes movie. Like 'cause because he wrote he wrote Home Alone. He didn't he didn't He didn't direct it. Didn't direct it, but um But I was thinking like Pro Planes, Trains and Automobile. But like like a more Never seen that. But that's a Thanksgiving movie. So uh Yes. But still was Home Alone it's a Christmas movie, so so I went with an I so I looked up a list of movies uh huh that were Christmas movies that aren't really Christmas movies. Oh like Die Hard Die Hard, for instance, or gremlins.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm thinking uh you know I'm thinking it would be perfect. Perfect is uh Batman Returns. The birth of the penguin. Do you remember that movie?

SPEAKER_04

Uh yeah, I do. Is that the one where he's in a stroller and his hand hangs out or something like that?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, his parents throw him off the bridge. Yeah. And he's floating into the sewer.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And the and and he like comes up on all these penguins. I feel like I know it's like borderline blasphemous saying that, you know, a song about the birth of penguins.

SPEAKER_04

He never had a chance.

SPEAKER_00

No, he didn't. I felt really bad for him. I was watching it and I was like, geez, this is rough. There's a reason I remember this scene.

SPEAKER_04

There's a reason people go back to the phone.

SPEAKER_00

But I've seen that movie like once. They're never when it first came out, 92.

SPEAKER_04

Where is the person that turns bad that had a nice life?

SPEAKER_00

That's true.

SPEAKER_04

I'm not saying it never happened.

SPEAKER_00

Be nice to people. You might turn him into the penguin.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, or you might keep him for a while.

SPEAKER_00

Pee Wee Herman will throw him off a bridge. Pee Wee Herman was. With the dad?

SPEAKER_04

I don't even remember that.

SPEAKER_00

Because I just watched it. Oh. I watched it to make sure. Okay, so I was looking at scene. Yeah, I was looking at a list of movies and I was like, I'm like, I swear there's a scene where a penguin's a baby and he's being raised by penguins. Yeah. And they're like, he's like in charge of them.

SPEAKER_04

I'm like, this would be the perfect soundtrack is just ridiculous.

SPEAKER_00

Perfect soundtrack for that scene. So I had to watch the whole scene. It's like the intro. It's like the credits were.

SPEAKER_04

I I remember.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So we get rid of Danny Elfman's crap. Yeah. Get out of here. Goodbye.

SPEAKER_04

Loser composer. You don't deserve that hair, Danny Elfman.

SPEAKER_00

You and your uh uh what mode does he like to use all the time?

SPEAKER_04

Uh is it Dorian?

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_04

It's not a minor mode?

SPEAKER_00

It's it's Lydian. Maybe it's Lydian. It's what the Simpsons is written in. Oh, Mixolydian. No. I think just Lydian.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I think so. I think look it up. Look it up.

SPEAKER_04

I thought it was Lyxilidian.

SPEAKER_00

I think he did the music for that. I might be wrong.

SPEAKER_04

Matt Sylvestri is gonna come for us in the night.

SPEAKER_00

Alan Sylvestri?

SPEAKER_04

I mean Matt Groaning.

SPEAKER_00

Matt Matt Matt Sylvestri is everyone.

SPEAKER_04

We won't know he's coming because we don't know who is coming. Hold on. Two Simpsons. I'm looking it up.

SPEAKER_00

If Matt Granning and Alan Silvestri had a baby, would they take would they have to take Matt's first name? Is that how that works?

SPEAKER_04

Danny Elfman.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, it is Danny Elfman.

SPEAKER_04

What mode?

SPEAKER_00

I'm saying Lydian.

SPEAKER_04

Please be Mixolydian. Mixolydian! No.

SPEAKER_00

Look, no.

SPEAKER_04

The main fanfare melody leans Mixolydian at times because of the lowered seventh.

SPEAKER_00

In The Simpsons? Yes. What am I thinking of?

SPEAKER_04

You're something dumb. Something you're wrong about. Whatever it is. We need to wrap this up, baby doll. Some of us have invoicing today. Okay. We do have real jobs. Oh, you know that now because we've talked about them.

SPEAKER_00

Right. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And we have to film an intro.

SPEAKER_00

Real jobs that make setting this up and breaking it down a huge pain in the butt, Clark. Because we have to get to our work. Clark, if you're listening to this, you gotta surrender your closet. You gotta let us use your closet.

SPEAKER_04

Please, baby, please.

SPEAKER_00

Please, Clark.

unknown

Please.

SPEAKER_04

Don't wish us out to the cornfield. I'll give you a free cereal if you tell me what that's from.

SPEAKER_00

Do we? Okay, so we're gonna wrap it up.

SPEAKER_04

We're gonna wrap it up.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Uh guys, check out our YouTube video cover of this if you're not watching this on YouTube already. Christmas must be tonight. Christmas must be tonight. Did you like that? You like doing that one? I did.

SPEAKER_04

I loved it.

SPEAKER_00

We did it on the first we we recorded our practice session.

SPEAKER_04

And we liked it.

SPEAKER_00

And we liked it and we just said, let's keep it. Just do it. So it's it's fine.

SPEAKER_04

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

It's fine. I did a little thing I like to do in the beginning of it where I like to uh I like to play the guitar. Like to play the butt hurts. The vocal part. The vocal melody on the guitar.

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_00

Like Hank Marvin and all that. We'll get into that some other time. How's that sound? Sound good? Okay. Thanks for listening, guys. Appreciate it. Appreciate you all over the place.
