The Audience Won't Like It
Married hosts Rob and Leslie Shoecraft invite you into their closet (literally) for a podcast that’s equal parts nostalgia trip, music nerd-out, and absurd banter. Born from a joke about how the audience probably won’t like it, the show leans into that spirit—riffing on everything from Star Trek episodes and Kitty Wells deep cuts, to feet, crockpots, and cover songs that live on YouTube thanks to copyright.
Each week, the conversation drifts like two people killing time in line for a concert—unexpected, hilarious, and sometimes strangely profound. Future episodes explore growing up in the 80s and 90s, The Dollhouse Murders, “5 of 5” and borrowed chords in music theory, bodybuilding meal prep, Wu-Tang Clan, Gordon Lightfoot, Alan Thicke, Herb Alpert, and whatever other rabbit holes pop up along the way.
If you like side tangents, forgotten pop culture, and covers of songs your mom might love, you might just find that you do like it after all.

Theme Song And Basement Setup
SPEAKER_01On this episode of The Audience Won't Like It. And then he's like, I'll cut off a finger for every answer you give me that I don't like. He's like, wait, whose finger? Mine are your artists. One of the celebrities, that very first celebrity I'd say that I remember being truly sad when he died. Um he this m he was already dead when he made this movie. I think Sing in the Rain gets most impressive uh take on physical comedy and a musical number done by one guy who smoked four packs a day.
SPEAKER_02It won. Seen most likely to convince me that I don't think I could watch this movie.
SPEAKER_01If you want to win a song, it's almost cheating, put strings in it, right? Like you Hey there.
SPEAKER_02Oh hi. Hey. What's up?
SPEAKER_01Oh, I just thought I'd uh hey, how you doing, huh?
SPEAKER_02Are you in line?
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, why would else want to be a little bit more than a few more? I was just checking this.
SPEAKER_02I didn't want to cut in front of you if you were just like waiting for a little bit.
SPEAKER_01Oh, A bar stanching.
SPEAKER_02I just wanted to mind if I It's gonna sound so weird.
SPEAKER_01Would you mind if I sing a theme song?
SPEAKER_02I would like that.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Wouldn't mind at all.
SPEAKER_01Alright, well. Oh, not quite in tune. Perfect.
SPEAKER_02I love it.
SPEAKER_01The audience might not, but oh, please be quiet. Two married friends in a basement room, standing in line with two microphones. They got in a car crash. She died in his arms. He kissed her lips because she was still warm. The audience won't like it. No, not at all.
SPEAKER_02Pretty. I liked it. I liked it, but I'm not in the audience.
SPEAKER_01Now you're just standing in line with me.
SPEAKER_02Hey, welcome to the audience won't like it. It's a podcast. And it's a video show.
SPEAKER_01It's a video show. It's a podcast.
SPEAKER_02It's a concert.
SPEAKER_01It's a concert.
SPEAKER_02My name is Leslie Shoecraft.
SPEAKER_01My name is Rob Shoecraft.
SPEAKER_02We're married. Oh no, are you making microphone noises?
SPEAKER_01I'll just hold it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Wrap this around here. If you just listen, and what I'm doing here is I'm wrapping his microphone wires around.
SPEAKER_02His headphone cord.
SPEAKER_01Ballet stanchions.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Ballet bars.
SPEAKER_01You can put it like this, or you can just let it.
SPEAKER_02You can do whatever you want.
SPEAKER_01It's a little bit of weight.
SPEAKER_02A little bit of weight.
SPEAKER_01On my neck.
SPEAKER_02And the clock is running. What do you think about it? Okay. Well, I'm just telling you, it's 4 45.
SPEAKER_01Hey.
unknownShh.
SPEAKER_01Let's just reset here. Okay. Just have a little touch.
SPEAKER_02Touch resetted.
SPEAKER_01So this is uh quite an improvement, isn't it? Over last week?
SPEAKER_02It is.
SPEAKER_01Because last week we had the microphone. Hey, if you're just listening, uh there's listening. We have microphones. Well, you heard the song.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. We're in a basement.
SPEAKER_01We weren't lying about that. We were hopefully lying about the car crash.
SPEAKER_02Well, so far.
SPEAKER_01I hope that's not uh I'm alive.
SPEAKER_02We have not been kissing. Today.
SPEAKER_01Today. Yeah. At some point we did because we have two kids.
SPEAKER_02That doesn't require kissing, but we should move on. Move off of that real quick. Real quick.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna go into stork territory. I was gonna have a little fun.
SPEAKER_02Stork territory.
SPEAKER_01A little bit of fun. It's a family show, so we like to. So we're gonna keep the mainly keep things bird bird law. Bird friendly. Above bird bird law.
SPEAKER_02Above bird law.
SPEAKER_01Harvey. Uh I'm always every time I hear bird law, I'm always torn between making a birdman reference or an always sunny reference.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I just am thinking, I know this is I'm making up this in my head, but like a bird that's a lawyer in like his commercial.
SPEAKER_01A bird that's a lawyer? Yeah. That's kind of what Harvey Birdman. Oh have you never seen that show?
SPEAKER_02I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Well, this birdman that was a big thing. I thought you were talking about Rick and Mortar. I think he had a bird.
SPEAKER_02Brick and mortar. Oh, you're a big one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, that's um bird person. Bird person. Sorry. Come on.
SPEAKER_02Anyway. Can birds be lawyers though? Back to that.
SPEAKER_01Well, Harvey Birdman can.
SPEAKER_02Was he a bird, though?
SPEAKER_01Well, sort of. I don't know enough birdman lore to really answer that.
SPEAKER_02What's he from? What universe is he from?
SPEAKER_01He is, I want to say a Hannah Barbera cartoon. I used to see him watching the old. Yes.
SPEAKER_02Jetson's. There's only Hannah Barbera.
SPEAKER_01Not so silly. He's a bit more like.
SPEAKER_02Is he a cartoon?
SPEAKER_01Yes. A bit more like Justice League.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01Like that kind of. That's good enough. However, it's not quite good enough. So Adult Swim well, well, I think Adult Swim eventually will be. Yeah, that's what I thought we were.
SPEAKER_02That's what I thought you were going to say.
SPEAKER_01They they did a there was a Harvey Birdman attorney at law.
SPEAKER_02And it was like kind of Maybe that's why I have that in my mind.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but they would say Harvey Attorney, hey, escorpus.
SPEAKER_02Yes, I remember that.
SPEAKER_01It's pretty good.
SPEAKER_02All right. Well, this is a podcast where we simulate waiting in line. Which we're getting it's becoming more real.
SPEAKER_01It's becoming almost real.
SPEAKER_02We're literally standing in a two-person line.
SPEAKER_01You know what I think?
SPEAKER_02In a turnstile.
SPEAKER_01Is that what this is? Yeah. It's a turnstile.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Isn't that what they're called at um Disney?
SPEAKER_01It's a uh it's a ballet bar with an with art.
SPEAKER_02Shh no, it's not.
SPEAKER_01Shh. Well, hang on.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01It looks like one kind of.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Sorry.
SPEAKER_01But it it uh hey, if you're just uh if you're if you're just watching, uh we have uh something that looks like a ballet bar, but it's arguably a turnstile, although gosh, I wish Harvey Bourbon was here to argue against that. Because I think you're wrong.
SPEAKER_02But I don't possess the um I have a heavy sigh for a litigious skill set.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, good. Do I? You think I do?
SPEAKER_02You can be litigious. Thank you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I guess if Charlie Day can. Um but I was thinking we'd have like we it'd be cool to have a uh a poster here.
SPEAKER_02Rob's gesturing to the back of the show.
SPEAKER_01Hey, if you're just uh if you're just uh listening. Uh what I'm doing is gesturing right now to the wall behind me. Um did you know hey, for if you um just watching, did you know there's a wall back here? It's not just a blanket.
SPEAKER_02A moving blanket. But I was thinking, excuse me. Sorry, I'm just talking.
SPEAKER_01So I was thinking we'd have a little poster of uh maybe T-Rex, Mark Bolin back here. Maybe uh Mark Bolin and the Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02You mean like an AI is gonna put that on there?
SPEAKER_01Well, we buy a new poster every year. Every week every week.
SPEAKER_02That's a great idea. That that definitely fits into the plan of not spending any more money on this podcast. Right?
SPEAKER_01We'll steal them.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay, that's fine. Where will we steal a T-Rex poster from? I haven't never seen one in my lifetime.
SPEAKER_01Well, the hard part's finding it. The easy part's stealing.
SPEAKER_02I have a I don't let me forget to talk about them at the end.
SPEAKER_01About what we're going. I mean, we have we have we have set so part of this podcast, if you're just now joining us. My name is Rob Shoecraft. This is Leslie Shoecraft. Uh thanks for tuning in.
SPEAKER_02I tried to already do the intro, just so you know.
SPEAKER_01It I know. This is I'm kind of I was uh double intro. I was laughing at myself when I when I did that 17 times on the last episode. Um I'm getting it out of my system. I'll work it out. I like to do bits to death.
SPEAKER_02It's one of the rules, first rules of humor.
SPEAKER_01Uh so uh what what was I gonna say?
SPEAKER_02Uh you were describing our podcast and how we're actually waiting in line and we're waiting in line for a concert.
SPEAKER_01Waiting in line for a concert? We're here to see T-Rex.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, from the sixties.
SPEAKER_01Well, yeah, late. Okay. They were Tyrannosaurus Rex. And then they became T-Rex once uh Tony Viscani kind of joined up with Mark Bolin and they kind of became T-Rex in 1970. That was the first album.
SPEAKER_02I discovered that if you try to look up anything about T-Rex, then you're gonna get a lot more stuff about dinosaurs. Yeah, there's a lot of like lots of cutscenes from Jurassic Park.
SPEAKER_01They were here first, in fairness. That's true.
SPEAKER_02Um I think I guess that's where they got their name.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, was from dinosaurs? Yeah. I don't actually know how he settled on that.
SPEAKER_02But it it was a dinosaur name. He didn't make up dinosaurs.
SPEAKER_01Oh, he didn't make up T-Rex in Tracks. I don't think so. I think that it could have been like a retroactive thing.
SPEAKER_02Could have. Uh but anyway, so while we're waiting in line to see T-Rex, you and I, I usually become we have some some good topics to talk about. Yeah. And so we will be doing that. And then the surprise twist ending, if you're just tuning in for the first time ever.
SPEAKER_01Hopefully you're just now sitting down for this twist.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It's not gonna be T-Rex after all performing it. It's gonna be It's gonna be you and me. You and me. Yeah, Robin Leslie.
SPEAKER_01It's us. We do a cover. Hey guys, the format of the show is we like to talk. We do in line. We do for about an hour and a half.
SPEAKER_02Fifteen minutes. And 90 minutes.
SPEAKER_01Ninety minutes. What did the 15 come from?
SPEAKER_02I was thinking nothing.
SPEAKER_01Oh.
SPEAKER_02Obviously, because I would have said something totally different. I'm not thinking. Thinking nothing.
SPEAKER_01We stayed in line, we talked. This is like waiting for you know the doors to open at a concert, and then uh and then uh and then we perform a cover of a song every week. And we told we will talk about T-Rex at some point.
SPEAKER_02We're covering Beltane Walk.
SPEAKER_01Beltane Walk is the name of that song. Kind of a deep cut, a little bit of a deep cut. I wish more people knew about it so I could talk about it with them.
SPEAKER_02Well, before before we get into our main topic and before we talk about T-Rex, they actually have a lot more uh hits than I realized that was them. I did a little homeworking part of me.
SPEAKER_01Nice, I am anyway.
SPEAKER_02Do we did you have anything you want to talk about like up front? Like what you've been into or Yeah, I'd love to.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Oh, like some consumption corner? Sure. Sort of.
SPEAKER_00We don't really have corrections corner so much anymore.
SPEAKER_01But we'd love what we'd love to do is put it on you. If I say something that's just wrong. Too silly for just funny business or not. Yeah, accuracy. Too silly for accuracy. You have some sort of concern. Um, I would like for you to uh call us on it. We'd like to call it. Phone numbers are JK. We're not getting it. No, but uh you could you could leave a YouTube comment, you could leave a sp uh a podcast comment. You can along with a review, of course. Five star review. You can email us at audience won't like it at gmail.com.
Life Updates And What We Watched
SPEAKER_02No the audience, just audiencewon't like it at gmail.com. You can check us out on Instagram. I'm behind. You can slap me on the way craft today at all.
SPEAKER_01Really? Yeah. Lyle.
SPEAKER_02Oh no.
SPEAKER_01He's like, you really need to post some more stuff on Instagram.
SPEAKER_02Did you say Lyle? I'm not in charge of that. It's my dumb wife.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's exactly what I said. At church. Yeah, would you hear that? Yeah. You must have hurt your ears are burning.
SPEAKER_02Somebody's talking about it.
SPEAKER_01Old fashioned solo cup or a little paper pillow.
SPEAKER_02I thought you meant like one of those old-fashioned hearing aids that looks like a big thing.
SPEAKER_01I was like, hey, what was that? I like peeked my head out.
SPEAKER_02You just saw the flash of my skirt running off the page.
SPEAKER_01Pull my pants back up and sat up. Sat up.
SPEAKER_02Were you on the toilet? Your pants down?
SPEAKER_01We were on the toilet.
SPEAKER_02Poor Lyle.
SPEAKER_01Lyle might think it's funny.
SPEAKER_02So Lyle listen to this?
SPEAKER_01Let's make a short about Lyle. About Lyle be, I don't know, uh dual pin down. Sitting down.
SPEAKER_02Alright, well tell us what you've been into, Rob. Well. It's shortly, like just like a short version.
SPEAKER_01I got a new oh, just a short one. Yeah. I got a new bike movie I watched.
SPEAKER_02Ooh, you haven't had a bike movie in a while.
SPEAKER_01No, it's uh I I started one, I started The Master. I'm not gonna talk about it today. Okay. But I started that and then Amazon took it off of um like when I was halfway in the movie. Do you like this? I'm gonna find that.
SPEAKER_02Let's remove it from the queue.
SPEAKER_01I said halfway. I think I had like 20 minutes in. It was Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman, uh Paul Thomas Anderson movie, I think. But that's I like I said, I did not watch that. What I watched was Fury. Familiar with this with this movie?
SPEAKER_02I don't think so.
SPEAKER_01It is a war movie. Nope. But listen up. I've I think uh one of these days we'll probably have a I'm gonna make a I'm gonna curate a list of war movies and westerns that I think you might like.
SPEAKER_02I like that.
SPEAKER_01You like that?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Fury may be on there.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Can I eat popcorn while we watch them? As like a meet in the middle.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I have like misophonia. A little bit of a misophia.
SPEAKER_02A little bit of misophonia. I might murder you if you eat from me.
SPEAKER_01I might snap you in the face. Yeah. I might uh you know just uh rotate a uh what if what would they have like a 40 millimeter cannon at you?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Knock your house down. Kind of like with uh at the school week we passed this weekend up in the middle.
SPEAKER_02Well that was on purpose. That wasn't like someone doing it out of reason.
SPEAKER_01Are you sure? Do we get verification?
SPEAKER_02Pretty sure. Pretty sure. I'm pretty sure.
SPEAKER_01Okay. If you know anything about the old Gehanna High School up in Columbus, why one of them's in rubles?
SPEAKER_02Rubles? Rubles.
SPEAKER_01Ruffles?
SPEAKER_02Ruffles. Ruffles.
SPEAKER_01Uh if you I think it might have been from a tank, several tanks. Leslie's thinking what school board construction?
SPEAKER_02School board knocked it down. School board.
SPEAKER_01That's a strong school board. Well, if I have a great school board, an effective one, I'd say. But uh they're very strong, brute force.
SPEAKER_02Would you put a lot of faith in their ability to tear down our schools? The six or seven of them?
SPEAKER_01Not like they do in Gehenna.
SPEAKER_02No. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Sorry, Alex. So I watched Fury. I watched Fury. It's with Brad Pitt. Brad Pitt's in it.
SPEAKER_02I like him. You like Brad Pitt? I do.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think I thought so. Who doesn't like Brad Pitt?
SPEAKER_02I know, really. Um Jennifer Anderson might not like him.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I don't I haven't kept up with it. That's the second mention of that. We talked about it last week with Brangelina.
SPEAKER_02Oh, well, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But then Brad Brennifer. Just keep going. Jenna Brad? What was the other one? Okay. Bradefer. And uh uh Sida even Side of Beef uh Steven is in it. Shiloh Boof, Buff.
SPEAKER_02Oh.
SPEAKER_01Uh you got uh The Punisher. Um his name's escaping me right now.
SPEAKER_02Brent Castle?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but uh he's a great actor. I like it. I always like Cynthia.
SPEAKER_02The one that's in um uh the space movie space show, Expanse.
SPEAKER_01No. Oh no, he's in Walking Dead. He's Shane and Walking Dead. Oh, Shane and Walking Dead. I totally know his name. I just can't think of it at the moment. It'll come to me later.
SPEAKER_02All right, well, this sounds like a cast.
SPEAKER_01But listen, it's it's cool because it's like, yeah, yeah, the cast is good. They got Michael Peña's in it. The guy from you know the guy in Ant-Man, who's kind of like the he's sort of like the comic relief. Yes. He's in it.
SPEAKER_02Is he comic relief in it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Well, no, okay, so here's the thing. So I've you know I've seen a lot of war movies. The last three, this has been this movie was a lot of fun compared to Paths of Glory, uh, The Deer Hunter, and uh Grave of the Fireflies, which I would argue is a war movie, which are the last three A plus for quality, yeah, D minus for fun. Yeah, maybe even F minus. Maybe an F, yeah. This is like just the right amount of atrocity uh for, you know, War as Hell, that whole truth, and a lot of ambiguous, you know, good and evils like the ambigu ambigu ambiguity?
SPEAKER_02Ambiguity.
SPEAKER_01I sat in the car, I practiced that word so long, I've been working on this.
SPEAKER_02Why'd you go get in the car?
SPEAKER_01I just this word, the only person can say this word is in my car.
SPEAKER_02So you drive a truck, you liar.
SPEAKER_01So uh I'm sorry, truth is out. And uh it's just uh there's just an action scene. They're just let littered throughout the movie that just keeps moving, keeps rolling, if you will. The treads, little tank reference. Yeah. And then I don't want to give anything away, but if you like last stand kind of movies, like 300.
SPEAKER_02I did like 300.
SPEAKER_01Um Assault on Precinct 13, is that what it is? You ever see that movie?
SPEAKER_02I don't think so.
SPEAKER_01With all the uh police it's a John Carpenter movie with all these cops in a police station, just these like kind of unnamed hordes are just coming at them, and they're just like you ever see the old 60s Swiss Family Robinson movie?
SPEAKER_02No. I read the junior novelization, that's it.
SPEAKER_01The with the little books, like the little tiny books, yeah, yeah. Um The Ness is another one. There's a lot of tons and tons of movies like that, but basically just uh hordes of uh Nazis in this case coming through, and they're it it's it's great. I like I liked it a lot. I did most of the watching actually not on the bike, shh. But um, while I was uh like packing lunches and that kind of thing in the morning.
SPEAKER_02Do you want a couple extra days to get through some stuff a little faster? Like you could pack lunch every day if you wanted. Gosh, really? I could I would let the I would let you do that.
SPEAKER_01Uh so yeah, what do you what about you? You watch uh is it that's what's it what's that sound? Does it sound okay with you?
SPEAKER_02That sounds great with me. Sound all right?
SPEAKER_01John Burnthal, that's his name.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Yeah. John. It says that his name shouldn't be John.
SPEAKER_01No?
SPEAKER_02He needs a name like Shane from Walking Dead.
SPEAKER_01Shane Burnthal.
SPEAKER_02Shane or Frank. Those are two of the best names.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Uh no, nothing exciting. Just uh 24. We started watching.
SPEAKER_01Did you know we started watching 24 years? 25 Years Too Late. That's kind of fun. 24, 25. It's a new 6'7.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, 24-25.
SPEAKER_01Have I seen it before? No, but my parents loved it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And my sister loved it. I think.
SPEAKER_01Don't know why I never did. I just never got around to it. I every time I see like nine seasons, I'm like, oh man.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I say, I say, oh my gosh, look at this.
SPEAKER_01But I'm assuming that's nine times twenty-four, right?
SPEAKER_02I guess.
SPEAKER_01I think there's nine seasons. I'm assuming they're all good. I don't know much about it.
SPEAKER_02We're not going anywhere, are we? No.
SPEAKER_01No way.
SPEAKER_02No way. Yeah, it's good this so far, though. I wish we I do wish we could just keep watching it at the end of each episode. It's like the nature of the way it is is it doesn't end. No, it's yeah, just everything's just one scene of Cliffhanger. Unapologetically cliffhanger. It's built on cliffhangers. So I like that a lot. Really, really good.
SPEAKER_01We gotta watch Cliffhanger too.
SPEAKER_02Um we also witnessed some more music being produced by our child.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02And we went to a golf match. See, that's why I haven't done anything.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. That's uh all that takes uh what about five hours of driving on Friday night, and it's just part of being a parent, you know. Don't kiss. Don't go kissing if you don't want to drive.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's right. If you don't want to drive to other people's stuff. Well, and also our daughter got an award from Snoopy.
SPEAKER_01For the best accompanying a comp a comp accompanist. A comp what?
SPEAKER_02Accompanomist.
SPEAKER_01A company mist.
SPEAKER_02Umpanyist.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, quite quite proud. Quite proud. Yes. Clark did pretty well qualified for his uh qualified for the next match. It was a good week. It was a good week. It was a busy week of our children.
SPEAKER_02You're right. And we got to sneak away and have a fun dinner in Columbus while we were there.
SPEAKER_01So shout out to Cap City Diner.
SPEAKER_02And we shopped for a fridge.
SPEAKER_01We did. This is a very, very thrilling stuff.
SPEAKER_02Well, people like us. They like to know what we're up to. Yeah, this this is. People often send me messages and say, How was your week? And then so it's how Do they really?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. People just say, How's your week?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01Wow, you got some nice friends.
SPEAKER_02I do have nice friends. I think that a lot when I have messages back and forth with there's like a handful of people that I always like, wow, I have nice friends. So if you're one of those people that I share messages with, that's you.
SPEAKER_01Wow. Oh, you guys can ask me too how my week is. I uh but then you actually don't.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Rob likes to complain.
SPEAKER_01No, I'm just kidding.
SPEAKER_02He doesn't want to talk about it.
SPEAKER_01Just listen to the podcast. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh anyway, so anything else from you?
SPEAKER_01Um Yeah, uh Dave Mason died. Do you know who that is? He's a uh guitarist sign songwriter. Do you know Traffic?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01Uh he was in Traffic. I think he was in traffic. Wait, now I'm second guessing myself. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I've also been in traffic.
SPEAKER_01He was in uh he was the tons of guitar with like I think Harrison. He was on All Things Must Pass. You know the George Harrison album?
SPEAKER_02No. Um does it have Apple Scruffs on it? It does have Apple Scruffs. Okay, then I'm aware of it.
SPEAKER_01Uh he was he wrote the song Um We Just Disagree. There ain't no good guys.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I was just thinking that's the right that's the one I was thinking.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02We should cover that song. It's a great song. That's a good one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. In honor of Dave Mason.
SPEAKER_02Okay, we should.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but he's all sorts of stuff. Uh played with Hendrix. He was on Electric Ladyland, so he's been around for a while. The Stones played with Clapton, he was in Derek and the Domino's or less.
SPEAKER_02Tell me about Electric Ladyland. That's that's ringing a bell in my head, and I can't quite figure out why.
SPEAKER_01It's a Hendrix album.
SPEAKER_02Okay, did we listen to it or something?
SPEAKER_01Why you've probably listened. Oh, well, my um Buddy Miles. Didn't you do some Buddy Miles songs one time for like a patient?
SPEAKER_02Maybe. Um Electric Ladyland says just living in my head.
SPEAKER_01It's got uh one of my favorite songs on it. We'll do Remember. Some of my favorite Hendrix songs. It's a simple, it's a little ditty. It's not it's not like your typical Hendrix song. It's kind of a anyways, we'll get to it sometime. Um so he died. We got uh so Russia, he can come to our concert before sure. You want to tell him about the concert real quick?
SPEAKER_02Sure, you guys. We're hosting a concert, so be on the lookout for like tickets to go live. Um, but it's it's mostly for people who are dead, and they're gonna come back and they're gonna ride in on different things. So a lot of them are escaping me, but people are riding in on. Yeah, well, we're not having traffic. Yeah. Oh, I've already made a traffic joke and you just what was it? I said I've also been in traffic and you just kept on talking.
SPEAKER_01Oh, did you just you said he was.
SPEAKER_02In traffic, and I said, Huh, I've also been in traffic. Isn't that kind of like saying uh what hey, define uh denying me laughs two times in a row, guys? Do what I have to live with. I don't want to talk about this anymore. Continue on.
unknownOkay.
Listener Comments And Hogwarts Legacy
SPEAKER_02Anyway, so yeah, just you know, lots of stuff. Kitty Wells and Kitty Well and Kitty Wells and George Takai are gonna be the hosts.
SPEAKER_01It's gonna be great. It is gonna be great. What about you? I do have a couple more.
SPEAKER_02You already asked me, I told you already.
SPEAKER_01Well, I was gonna say we watched uh you listened, we listened to the rewatchables together.
SPEAKER_02We did, and we were kindergarten cop.
SPEAKER_01Did you ever listen to the rest of it?
SPEAKER_02No. I haven't been in the car alone to do it.
SPEAKER_01You were in the car with me in Oh, truck, sorry. No, it was a Highlander.
SPEAKER_02True. No.
SPEAKER_01Guys, I'm not sure. It was the truck. It was the truck.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But also we were talking. Yesterday we drove the truck. So that if we bought a refrigerator, we could drive it home in that.
SPEAKER_00We didn't listen to rewatchables yesterday. We listened to rewatchables on the way home from Columbus.
SPEAKER_02Okay, but you said then we were in a little in the car together yesterday.
SPEAKER_01Wait, we need we need a reset. We need a touch, reset, touch.
SPEAKER_02I don't want to touch reset. I don't want to keep being mad.
SPEAKER_01Leslie touched.
SPEAKER_02If you guys know if you guys have ever taught your dog the command touch, please put comments on it in the in the comments.
SPEAKER_01That I would um I would be laughing if I heard somebody say that they could teach their dog to touch.
SPEAKER_02You're laughing right now. It's coming true.
SPEAKER_01I'll just say a legume joke in there. Yeah. Somewhere.
SPEAKER_02Sure.
SPEAKER_01Um I uh I started watching the uh arcade economy. I'm kind of hooked on that.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Is that the on the YouTube? Yeah. Is that the one where it's like how much does it cost to?
SPEAKER_01I don't usually watch YouTube because of because I like stuff that's on there.
SPEAKER_02That's that's okay. You know that's okay.
SPEAKER_01I know there's just no uh but I but I want to watch my great courses.
SPEAKER_02Well you can do that too.
SPEAKER_01But man, he just guy goes into all these arcade games. I'm so scared of the case.
SPEAKER_02And what's the name of it called Arcade Arcade?
SPEAKER_01It's called Arcade Economy. That's his channel name. Well, I don't remember the channel name. It's like a series that he has within his channel.
SPEAKER_03Gotcha.
SPEAKER_01But what he does, his main shtick is he gives a history of an arcade game, but at the end, his thing is that he tells you how much it would cost to beat it. Like by pumping in quarters, how many like based on how he's done.
SPEAKER_02Gotcha.
SPEAKER_01And that's uh very relatable to me. I've spent many, many dollars in the arcade.
SPEAKER_02And now we have a free pinball machine and no one ever plays it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we got to uh someone played it today.
SPEAKER_02I heard it, I heard it making a noise. Oh yeah. Oh, some people somebody. Was it Caroline?
SPEAKER_01It's probably Caroline and and her uh Bo boyfriend who listens to this. Thank you, sir.
SPEAKER_02What? Skylar. What a listener.
SPEAKER_01I know, he's a good listener.
SPEAKER_02He's a good listener.
SPEAKER_01Do we want to talk about comments?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there are some comments to talk about.
SPEAKER_01Well, we got we got uh we got some comments.
SPEAKER_02Also, we're up to 34 subscribers.
SPEAKER_01Guys, I worked on uh I worked on Jeffrey's data sheet a little bit.
SPEAKER_02Oh, cute.
SPEAKER_01But I don't have anything to show for it yet. But uh I'm I'm thinking it's I'm thinking it's gonna be pretty neat. I'm actually pretty excited to see what comes out of it. Thank you, Jeffrey.
SPEAKER_02I bet there's there's so much stuff that we And while you work on that, I play Hogwarts Legacy.
SPEAKER_01Well, can we start with Jeffrey's comments? Because Jeffrey was all over the comments.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, in which one or this week.
SPEAKER_01Um on our most recent episode.
SPEAKER_02That just came out though. Which one was it?
SPEAKER_01Oh, sorry, of course. Uh episode was that 3. Episode uh 31th. 31th. Titles are too long. I can't see. Yeah, I think episode 30. The one we talked about blood on the tracks.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, all right, hit us. Talk about Hogwarts Legacy. Okay.
SPEAKER_02It was like sort of like a catch-up board.
SPEAKER_01He said, I love Hogwarts Legacy. Ha ha. Hogsmead is a delight. I want a new I want the new TV show to show more of Hogsmead. Is there a new TV show?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's coming on H Bell. Tell me about it. It's coming out on H Bell. Oh, it's not out yet. Uh I don't know if it is or not, but it's it's coming on HBO.
SPEAKER_01Do you know anything about it?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there it's just like a reboot of the books.
SPEAKER_01Oh, so it's like actually it's like a series, though.
SPEAKER_02So instead of movie for book, it's they're going deep. Yeah, I hope so. I'm very much looking forward to it.
SPEAKER_01That's cool.
SPEAKER_02They're bringing back Robbie Coltrane from the dead to play Haggard again.
SPEAKER_01Good.
SPEAKER_02He can come to our concert. Like he can hit a couple things.
SPEAKER_01He's been dead long enough.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um he won't be late.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, he can He's gonna ride in on a Hippogriff.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, of course. Uh, what's the name of the hippogriff in that? Buckbeak. Buckbeak. Nice. You're on it. He said he enjoys Bob's music, Bob Dylan. And hopefully Bob James, but it's okay. Uh he appreciated the context in the background. He timestamps all this too. Jeffrey the cutest. Jeffrey's the man. He said something's a he said that's a great idea. You can definitely use AI for that. I think he was talking about Jeffrey's data sheet.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. Jeffrey's data sheet. That's what it is called now.
SPEAKER_01He referred to bedtime catch-ups. Oh. The catch-up. Yeah. Bedtime catch up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we were catching ourselves. We were like adding some stuff in to the bedtime sitcoms, and we had a little exchange about bedtime catch-up.
SPEAKER_01And then you got a WTF uh laughing face, crying face. What crying laughing face, tilted crying, laughing face. Uh let's go. It was like uh it was it was some uh it was some fun banter. And then your sister took me a minute.
SPEAKER_02Who you didn't recognize.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I was like, some uh yeah, this girl, she wrote three hearts on Yoshimi. On Yoshimi, Battles of Pink Robots, part one.
SPEAKER_02Thank you, Laura.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, Laura. Unless he's like, that's Laura. I was like, oh. Thank you, Laura. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Hey Laura.
SPEAKER_01Hey Laura, Laura.
SPEAKER_02Love Wayne.
unknownOh yeah.
Movie Superlatives Game Explained
SPEAKER_01So, hey, do you want to talk about um what are we calling this? Movie superlatives?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we're doing some movie superlatives today. I can't see how my hair looks now that I fixed it again. I hope you guys like my glasses too that I'm reflecting all the lights directly into the to the camera.
SPEAKER_01Everybody's just like watching this.
SPEAKER_02I know it's I said I'm like Cyclops.
SPEAKER_01Scott.
SPEAKER_02Took my visor off.
SPEAKER_01We kept referring to him as Scott and something. It was a paradise. Yeah, Paradise. Paradise, yeah. The movie we the show we stopped watching. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Alright, so what we did was we each picked seven movies that we would that we had a category that they would win. So like a the award show, like best picture, best director, best whatever.
SPEAKER_01It's kind of like an inverse of if you watch the rewatchables. We're picking the movie. They pick categories within the movie. We're picking superlatives that this movie is had would win the award for above above all m other movies.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And and I think too, um, that it'll become a bit more obvious once we just get going.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. You know what I realized? What? Um, I think you started this off with start in in your favorite movies, pick the pick the movie that what did we get an award for? Yeah. I don't think any well, maybe one of these is one of my favorite movies.
SPEAKER_02Oh, these are all my favorite movies.
SPEAKER_01Some of these are my least favorite movies.
SPEAKER_02And I had trouble coming up with a f list of seven movies that I would consider my favorite movies. I don't re-watch a lot of stuff.
SPEAKER_01I forgot about that. So, um, but we'll get to it. This uh hilarity will ensue, I promise you.
SPEAKER_02Yes, it will.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02Alright. So here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna take turns. And here's what we did to prep. We chose our seven movies, and then we chose the superlative that that movie won. And then we didn't tell each other the superlative, we just sent a short clip from the movie, and then that up like Rob sent me his movie list with his clips, and then I had to guess what I think those superlatives are, and he did the same. So he's we've each seen some clips from the favorite from our movies, and we're gonna go one at a time, I guess. I guess back and forth.
SPEAKER_01You wanna start?
Casino Royale And Almost Heroes Picks
SPEAKER_02All right. My first movie that I chose was Casino Royale, and it actually got first in two categories. Yeah. So the first scene um is when Daniel Craig is swimming and getting up out of the ocean. So, did you want to try to guess what the category won for that?
SPEAKER_01I think the butter's face award.
SPEAKER_02The what?
SPEAKER_01It's like a butterface, but for dudes.
SPEAKER_02But that's only if you don't think he's cute.
SPEAKER_01He's got a hot body. He's got a little bit of a troll thing going on.
SPEAKER_02Like a hot troll?
SPEAKER_01A hot troll, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh hatchet face.
SPEAKER_01Hatchet face.
SPEAKER_02Mount Craggy Mount Rushmore. What do they call that? Who was Jeremy Wade, Jeremy Renner, Daniel Craig, and Kirk Douglas.
SPEAKER_01Kirk Douglas. Craggy face Mount Rushmore. No, he's a hot, he's a hot fellow. He's a hot dude. But that was my guess. Um I was gonna say, uh, you know, he's wears that. So Leslie, you guys don't don't know her quite as well as I do. She uh ever since 2006, well, I think that's when Casino Royale came out, she's been talking about the swimsuit that he wears.
SPEAKER_02I would like you to get one.
SPEAKER_01Anytime I wear any underwear, or presume she sees anybody else wearing underwear, uh, she makes a comment about General Craig's bathing screen. Oh, there needs to be a bait. Like, I need a what is the comment? Would would you really like me to wear something like that?
SPEAKER_02No. You'd look great in it, but other than everyone else would be looking at it.
SPEAKER_01I don't know if I'd like great in it.
SPEAKER_02You would. There'd be a lot of stuff on display, though. It's a little it's a little off putting from certain directions. Um anyway, he won the best spy in swimwear for that.
SPEAKER_01I would love to uh try to argue that.
SPEAKER_02You could how could you?
SPEAKER_01In swimwear.
SPEAKER_02Best spy in swimwear.
SPEAKER_01Okay, though so best when you say best spy in swimwear, you mean the most capable spy, the most pretty capable person at SpyCraft who wears swimsuits?
SPEAKER_02They just were the best all-around spy in a swimsuit.
SPEAKER_01I guess until I can come up with a better one, I'll be able to do that. You can't dispute it. I'm pretty sure.
SPEAKER_02I mean, honestly, I think these are already awarded. I I you can't tell me that it's not accurate. They already won these awards.
SPEAKER_01I do actually agree.
SPEAKER_02And then the second scene, and this is a spoiler, if you have not seen Casino Royal, maybe jump ahead like 25 minutes because God only knows how long we're talking about it. But um the second scene that I sent Rob to to see if he could guess what what it won was when Vesper, the love and trust, drowns.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I thought it was when uh he killed two guys with a nail gun. I skipped after that I turned the.
SPEAKER_02You didn't look at the timestamp that I sent you? Right. So what was your category? What do you think the category was?
SPEAKER_01I think it was okay. This is this is gonna sound like a joke, but this is what I think the category was. Okay. I think it was It's all a little bit of a joke, so I think it was I'm just gonna stumble fumble things.
SPEAKER_02Usually that's how categories are hard to like come up with. I think they don't just roll right off the tongue.
SPEAKER_01Um hottest example or the two two hottest people doing a kissing a still warm dead body.
SPEAKER_02Oh wow, that's a great one. I think that's very close. I I almost want to award you credit for that.
SPEAKER_03Wow.
SPEAKER_02But what it really was was most romantic drowning.
SPEAKER_03Right? That's pretty cool. That's pretty good.
SPEAKER_01It was incredibly romantic, though. Like he really loved loved her.
SPEAKER_02I really wished I was smarter and funnier because I really wanted to do something with like the fact that they're trying to talk to each other underwater, and she's and I just wished I could like come up with some funny.
SPEAKER_01Pushes herself away and screams. Yeah. Is she I know you can't. She's just letting all of her air out. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But yeah, anyway, good job.
SPEAKER_01I'm very impressed that you know, the way do you notice the way he was doing CPR there? I think he was having some liberties.
SPEAKER_02He was doing liberty.
SPEAKER_01It's like how Quagmire does CPR. You watch that again, it's just like, wow.
SPEAKER_02Oh, dude. They were up good. Maybe did they just get into a car crash? Is that it's kind of on par on theme.
SPEAKER_01It's right on theme.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's right on brand for us. Dead body kissing.
SPEAKER_01I'm pretty sure CPR gets gets a little hotter.
SPEAKER_02All right, I'm very I'm I feel like we're off to a great start.
SPEAKER_01I do by the way, I'm not necrophilia is not something I I just think this is a humor podcast, so don't take anything too serious. If you're just joining us, I don't think I've ever actually explained why in the theme song I sing about kissing your still warm lips.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Is that just because it's something the audience won't like?
SPEAKER_01It's just uh it it's it's rooted in the yeah, well, yes, it is. But it's I've all ever since I was like a little kid, I've always thought because you see watch movies where somebody dies and somebody's in love with them and they hug them and they kiss them. And of course, I'm sure I do the same thing. But I just remember thinking, like, at what point is that not okay?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, when do you when you're like, wait a second, I don't want to hold this.
SPEAKER_01But then like he got like uh uh what's his name? Frank uh Frankie Cavaliers, I can't remember his name. The Cavaliers. Uh the last kiss. Oh well, can I doesn't he kiss her? I'm pretty sure.
SPEAKER_02I think so. Yeah, I have to look up the lyrics too.
SPEAKER_01But she might have been still with us at that point right before. And then he's like, he's kissing her in the like, but also taking her pulse. He's like, Oh, I gotta stop.
SPEAKER_02Okay, I'm done. Hands off. Hands off. Call 911.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I did call 9-1.
SPEAKER_02That was another thing I did.
SPEAKER_01All right, Dahmer. What's that?
SPEAKER_02I did call 911 this week. That was another thing that took up some of my time.
SPEAKER_01That was exciting. I'm glad everybody was okay. Yeah, I witnessed it.
SPEAKER_02I witnessed a car turning left in front of a motorcycle. Didn't have to kiss anyone. No. I after I called 911, did my due diligence and saw that there were a bunch of people out sitting with those people in the ambulance. The police cars were coming. I just put my car in reverse and slowly backed away. I was like, see ya.
SPEAKER_01I thought I just thought of a genius idea.
SPEAKER_02What?
SPEAKER_01Um, you're a pretty good writer.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01And it's pretty easy to self-publish on Kindle.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You should write a motorcycle romance novel about a motorcycle guy who there's a female truck driver.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01She cuts him off.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01He goes flying into it. She comes out. He's not quite okay, unlike this situation. She's got to give him mouth to mouth.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01He's dead, but he comes back. Oh my gosh. And we could be our the soundtrack for that.
unknownOh my gosh.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah, we're diversifying. That's something to think about. Thanks for letting me uh. Alright, so that's the second one. Do we want to talk any more about that?
SPEAKER_02No, that's good enough. It's your turn.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so so two. Should I go two or should I go one?
SPEAKER_02I only did one. One movie. I mean, I'm I only have two for.
SPEAKER_01That's fine. I'll move on.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay. This is with uh this is Almost Heroes, which I believe was 98. I'm not gonna know the dates for all of them, but I'll I'll try. Almost Heroes is a Matthew Perry and unfortunately. Well, shoot, Matthew Perry's dead too. Jeez. Matthew Perry and Chris Farley's last Chris Farley's last movie. Okay. Their last movie together as well. Okay. They're also the last movie.
SPEAKER_03Aww.
SPEAKER_01Um, this is the scene where Higgins, uh, I don't remember what Higgins played in the movie, but I I've seen the movie once, twice. Yeah, once-ish. I've seen this scene so many times.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and now I have too, twice. Well, I've seen it like four times, I think. I think you've made me watch it before the other night. It's a scene. Our poor care our poor daughter was having like a meltdown over having so much to do. It was justified. So Rob was like, here, watch this. This will make you feel better. I don't think it worked. Normally she's into it, but not, she wasn't.
SPEAKER_01She wasn't. She was going through some stuff. So this is the scene where they're all around the campfire, and Higgins or uh Chris Farley tells Higgins to tell a story. And Higgins stands up and tells a story about the time. And this is a family show, so I'm not gonna use his exact language.
SPEAKER_03He said a few lessons.
SPEAKER_01Oh, sheepdongue.
SPEAKER_03Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_01Where Higgins tells a story about how he got his brother, and it's very proper his delivery, and he's very um very earnest, and just uh he's an interesting character. And he tells uh he tells a story about how he tricked his brother into eating a plum pudding full of sheep dung.
SPEAKER_02Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_01And um and everybody's laughing. Matthew Perry's just a little confused.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And then he sits down, like the story's over. That's pretty funny. Like that part is pretty funny. It's it's absurd. But then and then Chris Farler yells, tell him the best part. And then he's like, Oh, yes, yes. The truth is, I have no brother. I ate sheep.
SPEAKER_02SH.
SPEAKER_01SH. And Matthew Perry's like, ah, a little twist at the end there. What do you think?
SPEAKER_02I I went with What is that the award?
SPEAKER_01What did that get the award for?
SPEAKER_02The the category that this award was all delivered in is best poop joke with a twist ending.
SPEAKER_01Hmm. That's not it. I like that.
SPEAKER_02Thank you.
SPEAKER_01Trying to think if there's a better one. Best poop joke.
SPEAKER_02With a twist ending.
SPEAKER_01With a twist. Do all jokes sort of have twist endings? Kinda? Isn't that sort of like a, in a way, a like a punchline is a bit?
SPEAKER_02I don't normally think of jokes of having jokes.
SPEAKER_01I think the thing is, I don't think he is a joke. I think Higgins actually ate.
SPEAKER_02Alright, well tell me what it won then.
SPEAKER_01If I was wrong, then the all-time funniest scene from an otherwise irredeemable movie.
SPEAKER_02Oh wow. See, yeah. I don't have the meta view of having seen the whole movie to know whether or not it was irredeemable.
SPEAKER_01I, you know, of course, all of this is incredibly subjective, but I there's definitely other drowning scenes that could have been more romantic. I really went through a lot. Honestly, one of the contenders I would say for this award is probably like another one on my list from Ace Ventura when Nature Calls. That movie's not very good. But uh I was surprised to see that on there. Ace Ventura two. Two. Two.
SPEAKER_02I was like, Ace Ventura two? All right.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So I I tried to find, I went through like all the bad movies. Like I literally like I sorted IMDB scores by under 5'5 and Rotten Tomato scores by under 10%, and just went down.
SPEAKER_02Like, have I seen it's the most different people that have ever been?
SPEAKER_01I I thought maybe I'd strike I I look like Little Nikki.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because I love there's a six scene where they play Chicago the Chicago album backwards, and it just always cracks me up. It it's so stupid, but I love it. But the rest I think I like that movie a little bit more than I want to admit, so I couldn't say it's not redeemable. I watched, have you ever seen um is that Dana Carvey movie like the where he's like the Master of Disguise?
SPEAKER_02Uh no, uh not that I know of that.
SPEAKER_01I've never seen it. I watched seven minutes of the best clips. It was terrible. I watched it, I ended up cranking up to two speed, and I quit two minutes in. It is the worst movie I ever made, I think. It's terrible. So bad. It's so bad. And I don't really know it's on your list. Dana Carvey's amazing. But um, so I love Chris Farley. You know that. Like Chris Farley, I was like one of the only one of the one of the celebrities that very first celebrity I'd say that I remember being truly sad when he died. Um he this he was already dead when he made this movie. Like Yeah. And I'm not trying to be like, it's just this movie was such a waste. You know, it was made by Christopher Guest, who oh yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Did Waiting for Guffman and all that.
SPEAKER_01You got Matthew Perry, who's like basically on top of the world at this time. Like Matthew Perry's pretty as Chandler Bing, anyway, is a pretty funny dude.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You got Eugene Levy's in it.
SPEAKER_02Wow.
SPEAKER_01You got Higgins, whoever that is. Higgins carries the movie.
SPEAKER_02Wow.
SPEAKER_01I think the reason I did the first when I saw this movie, I was just like, I felt like depressed afterward. Because I was like, this movie sucked.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And I miss Chris Farley.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I miss Chris Farley. I miss the old Chris Farley. So the healthy Chris Farley.
SPEAKER_01Part of that subjective, you know, irredeemable part goes into. Truth be told, I'll watch well, I'll watch Chris Chris Farley do anything. He always cracks me up, but it was just, it was just, given all the circumstances, it was a bummer.
SPEAKER_02That's great.
SPEAKER_01But Higgins saved it. All right, Higgins. Thank you, Higgins.
SPEAKER_02Great job for making that movie have any redeemable qualities with your poop story. Uh, about how you ate poop. It's funny, it is funny because it doesn't make any sense. Because you're like, well, but why? Why did you do that? Like, I love it. Yeah. Uh all right.
SPEAKER_01It's one of my favorite scenes from mini-movie ever, which is insane. There's some bangers on here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Alright, my turn?
Napoleon Dynamite And Nothing To Lose
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02All right, Napoleon Dynamite, it's my next movie.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02And it's the scene where Uncle Rico is, you know, he throughout the movie he's trying to sell that Tupperware, and he pulls out like the ship that she would get if she would buy the and she says I want that. So what do you think the category is that it won?
SPEAKER_01Again, this is another kind of meta category or award. I would say Napoleon Dynamite would get the award f for having a quote that we use the most in our daily life.
SPEAKER_02Wrong. It gets the award for movie with the best gift with purchase award.
SPEAKER_01Oh. Oh man. I really want to do some homework on this. Because I don't like first of all, you gotta find a movie that has See, yeah, it's all it's just insanity.
SPEAKER_02You're see, I here's how I went about this. I thought of seven Moonbies. Moonbees. Moonbees, and the reasons that I liked them, and then I decided what their superlative was based on my some of my favorite scenes from those movies. And then I didn't go to uh Rotten Tomatoes, I didn't look at IMDB, I didn't literally any of what Rob did. So just so you guys know, like it's it's not gonna be the same.
SPEAKER_01By the way, please I want to hear your if you uh tack on to these. Find give us uh Yeah.
SPEAKER_02If you know of a movie that has a better gift with purchase, please, please comment below. We would like to know so that maybe we could redo this episode with more accurate information. So your turn.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Well, uh so that that that that seemed, but but I just want to say the reason I chose that and honestly thought that's because we quote it. We say I want that all the time.
SPEAKER_02The top comment on the scene I sent you was I say this every time I have materialistic greed. Something like that. You see something you want, I want that. And it's it's just so it's like a 30-second clip. He all he does is pull that ship out. And she leans over to her husband and says, I want that. And then they buy that stupid Tupperware.
SPEAKER_01And he's like, It's like you look like a strong young pup. He like tries to do it and she's like kind of looks it up like disapproving.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because he can't rip it, you can't rip the lid of a Tupperware apart.
SPEAKER_01Uh there's a lot of people who think that's an irredeemable movie.
SPEAKER_02Well, those people should be not our friends.
SPEAKER_01I'd say watch it again. That's what I would say.
SPEAKER_02I would say by the time you've watched it 25 times.
SPEAKER_01I had so many people saying, dude, Rob, you would love this movie. You would love this movie. I watched it, I'm like, eh. I see why people think that for whatever reason I watched it a second time. It's like, how'd I miss this?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, this is great.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And now I've seen it 70 times.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It's a good it's a good one I would like to put on to fall asleep a lot of times.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It's great. Good, good, decent soundtrack, too.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, great soundtrack.
SPEAKER_01All right. Okay. Uh, you got the promise on there.
SPEAKER_02Oh, is that the song at the end?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, have you ever heard Sergio Simpson do that song?
SPEAKER_02No, but I think that's a good one.
SPEAKER_01Oh, he does a great cover of that.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I like him, so I'll have to listen to that.
SPEAKER_01Oh, but then you got Jack White on there too.
SPEAKER_02Oh, my glasses are hurting my ears, everybody.
unknownI know.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02It's like they're too tight with these headphones on.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I bet. It's oh fine.
SPEAKER_02It's oh fine, though.
SPEAKER_01Do you have to see?
SPEAKER_02I was thinking about that. I kind of don't, but for now I'm gonna leave them on.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Uh is it my turn? Yeah. All right.
SPEAKER_02We have uh Oh my god, I gotta look my up what I wrote.
SPEAKER_01The movie Nothing to Lose, starring Tim Robbins. What?
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's not the one. I was thinking of Spies Like Us or whatever.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. And uh and uh Martin. Martin Martin. Sorry. Sorry about that. Do you ever watch Martin?
SPEAKER_02I think so, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Martin Lawrence?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01Um so yeah, it's a 90 1997 movie. I would say of uh to quote the internet, an underrated gem.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'd like to watch it. Actually, that scene made me want to watch it.
SPEAKER_01Well, you have watched it. You know how I know you've watched it? Or no, you maybe you just watched, maybe I just made you watch a scene of it. You yes, sir.
SPEAKER_02Oh god.
SPEAKER_01The John and I always weak. So there's this this is another completely random scene. Nothing, nothing, this is not the scene I'm gonna be giving the award to. Okay. Martin Lawrence's son in the movie. Because Martin Lawrence is like he's a criminal, but like a good dad. But we'll watch it sometime. Yeah, I won't. Anyways, his his son's like he's like, you do all your homework, you get you get you go in the saying your prayers, and the the kid's like, he, yes, sir. So you and your buddies. For whatever reason, John and I always thought that was hilarious. So whatever we'd ask each other a question, we to this day. It's been like I don't know how long we've known each other, 30 some years. But I would say, yes, sir. Okay. So the actual scene I want to talk about, not a random.
SPEAKER_02It is a great scene, isn't it? Yeah. Also, is he from Silo? Is he okay? That's why I thought that he's much younger.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's in a lot of things. 30 years ago. It was 30 years ago. Of course. Andy Dufresne. But 29 years ago. 29 years. Wow, that's sick. It's the scene where they're driving. I think they just robbed. For as much as I love this movie, I've only seen it a couple times. I think they just robbed somebody, robbed a gas station or something like that. And this movie's great, man. And anyways, he's he's got gas, he got some gas on his uh on his feet, and he's got a spider. Tim Robbins has a spider on his head. They're driving away, they're talking. Tim Robbins is upset about everything.
SPEAKER_02This scene just covers so many wonderful gems.
SPEAKER_01It's only like a minute and a half.
SPEAKER_02No, it's like five minutes. It's three and a half minutes, maybe. But yeah, he's like, he's Martin Lawrence is like, you got a spider on your head. And he's like, I don't know, I don't understand that talk. Yeah. He's like, You have a spider on your head. On your mother.
SPEAKER_01And he's like, get it off. He's like, I don't touch it.
SPEAKER_02So then he gets out of the car.
SPEAKER_01Which is that whole exchange is hilarious to begin with.
SPEAKER_02That would have been enough. That's what I thought it was going to be.
SPEAKER_01Because I love I love whatever that that deal. I can't think of another example right now, but I've seen several of them where somebody says something and somebody's assuming there it's some sort of expression or some euphemism or something. It's just a literal comment. You have a it slows it down, add a little F word for the punch, and it's just beautiful.
SPEAKER_02So I thought that was the whole I thought that was gonna be the clip because he says, I don't understand your dive talk, and I thought that was gonna be I was gonna have to come up. But then they stop the car and he gets out to get the spider off of him. And Martin Lawrence has a video camera, which maybe explained earlier in the movie.
SPEAKER_01We're gonna call that checkoff's video camera, because that comes back later in the movie.
SPEAKER_02Okay. And he starts filming him because he's acting ridiculous trying to get that spider off, and then he's dancing around with gasoline on his shoes, and he steps on a matchbook and sets himself on fire, and it's like just it just keeps getting funny.
SPEAKER_01While the scat man is playing.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yes, yes, they play that. It was really funny. That's great. And then he falls out of the car laughing because he's laughing somewhere.
SPEAKER_01I mean, he looks like he's genuinely laughing. Like it looks like Martin Lawrence is like the actor is just trying for it.
SPEAKER_02It was like such a happy scene. I really, really liked it. I was like, man, I we've got to watch this movie. All right. So I had I had my fake one. We have this friend named JB Friday. Well, hang on a second. What's the name?
SPEAKER_01What's the category?
SPEAKER_02I know. I said I have a fake winner, and then I'll tell you what my real winner is.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02I I mean my fake superlative that I know this isn't what it is, but I can't not say I thought you were going to the next movie.
SPEAKER_01I got you. I'm so so hey, hey, listen to you.
SPEAKER_02Does JB listen to this?
SPEAKER_01I I know he has.
SPEAKER_02Okay, well, I said most likely to be where our friend JB learned how to laugh at jokes. Because our friend JB, if he thinks something's funny, he just hits the ground. He just lays on the ground and laughs. And when Martin Lawrence fell out of the car, I was like, that looks good too.
SPEAKER_01But it doesn't matter how many people are there.
SPEAKER_02No. Um but what I really We love you, JB. What I really came up with was the best use of making a movie within a movie.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's I don't think that would win that, but just I Okay, I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_02You're so mean and critical.
SPEAKER_01No, I love that. I love it. I love it. Um that's gotta be though, like uh, well, it's not eight millimeter. Uh won't tell you.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I mean, it's obviously a joke.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you said it was a joke.
SPEAKER_02Oh, the JD one was a joke.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I thought it was a real one.
SPEAKER_02But anyway, that was my guess. Best use of making a movie within a movie.
SPEAKER_01It's a great guess.
SPEAKER_02Because he's filming him just against it.
SPEAKER_01It's actually really straightforward.
SPEAKER_02Okay, let's hear it.
SPEAKER_01Uh best dance with an arachnid.
SPEAKER_02Best dance with an arachnid. I yeah, I I was going that direction. Then I had that camera, man. I just knew I was like, I had to talk about that. He's filming, I'm doing it.
SPEAKER_01I'm glad you did. Thank you. And you might be right. I might not be that mean after all. I might have been mean for no reason.
Singing In The Rain And Shaolin Soccer
SPEAKER_02Okay. Back to me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, what you got.
SPEAKER_02My next movie is this is a pretty straightforward one, but this is Singing in the Rain.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Uh, so it's a scene that the um Cosmo was kind of like the sidekick to the main character, and he's singing a song called Make Em Laugh about how basically like the silent movie era is ending, and how comedy is like the way to go. And he's like, just you know, if you it's too serious, just make them laugh. And he sings this whole long song about it, and he tap dances, and it's like a very great scene. He's a great dancer, and he's a great comic, uh, physical comedy. Did you watch the whole thing or did you just skip to the end? Because I put a timestamp on there, but can I just tell you what I guessed?
SPEAKER_01Sure. Um, but I think it I think Sing in the Rain gets most impressive uh take on physical comedy and a musical number done by one guy who smoked four packs a day, Donald O'Connor.
SPEAKER_02Wow, did he smoke four packs a day? Apparently. Wow.
SPEAKER_01That was insane. I I know I've seen that movie before. It is a great movie. I know I said I was like a big into musicals or whatever, but oh, I don't know. Maybe they had to film it all in one take.
SPEAKER_02I mean, he was like I yeah, I Judy Garland probably would have been like 12 at that point. But I guess that's when she started.
SPEAKER_01Was it 52?
SPEAKER_02Oh, it was that late. I thought it was like 49 or something. It's fine. You know things.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Well, I don't know. Um, you know what's fine. Here, uh, so yeah, he was a vaudeville actor. Uh uh O'Connor was. Yeah. And he so what's his name? Gene Kelly, right? Yes. He's the he's the main guy.
SPEAKER_02He's like the heart, the love and apparently incredibly demanding.
SPEAKER_01Really tight choreography demands. We get in fights with a lot with people, but but it kind of probably in a way that like um Stanley Kubrick would, or something like that. They have a vision, yeah. And everybody kind of respects it, but it's just like, oh my gosh, dude, like really, yeah. They this is what I found out about it. He he did the did the deal. I don't think he'd done stuff like that in a while.
SPEAKER_02Who don't know?
SPEAKER_01Because he does like two backflips. He jumps up in the air a million times, he's falling around, he's jumped. If you guys, if you haven't seen it, like it is incredible.
SPEAKER_02It's by any and he sings, he's singing through half of it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and he's singing.
SPEAKER_02Wait, can I just tell you what the name of the award is? Because you're very close.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Mine was just a little bit more specific than yours. Best upside down tap dance. Because he my the thing my sister and I used to always try to do is when he runs up the wall and flips over. And he does it twice.
SPEAKER_01I had a buddy who used to do this. Oh my gosh, but with his tap shoes on. Not with tap shoes.
SPEAKER_02So there you go. Best upside down tap dance. So you were, I mean, that was basically a nod to the physical.
SPEAKER_01And dude, he kind of has a breakdancing scene at one point. Yes. He's all over.
SPEAKER_02And he like falls over like he's getting punched, and there's nobody. It was good. It's cool.
SPEAKER_01So they did that soon.
SPEAKER_02I'm glad you liked it so much.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I did. It's great. You know, I love I love physical. I'm always if you want to impress me and you could do a backflip, just get in line. I'll watch everybody in line do a backflip. I think it's the coolest thing. I don't know. I've I've never never done it. My my mom used to scream I was gonna break my neck when I'm like, Can you break a neck? She's right. I totally would have. Or what if I tried now? But the he he he did they took the shot. Look, it there's rumors going around that it was done in one shot. That's not how it was, but it was done in in one day, and again, he was exhausted. There was some sort of technical malfunction, so he had to do it again after and he was apparently laid up in the hospital for several days from like like serious exhaustion.
unknownI believe it.
SPEAKER_02All right, we should keep moving.
SPEAKER_01Oh, let's keep moving. You're up 1952, by the way. Okay, you were right. Yep. Okay. Um, what do I have here? We have not pink flamingos.
SPEAKER_02Nope. And never, it'll never make any other appearances on this show.
SPEAKER_01It will, actually.
SPEAKER_02Well, then I quit.
SPEAKER_01No, it will in a moment, because I almost had it on there. What I was going to do, if we're gonna talk about Shaolin Soccer. What I was going to do is make an entire list of seven movies with eggs in it.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay. Just because this is the egg scene from Shaolin Soccer.
SPEAKER_01It's the egg scene from Shaolin Soccer.
SPEAKER_02All right. Describe it.
SPEAKER_01Shaolin Soccer is an over-the-top movie by uh Stephen Chow, who did he's way way more well known for Kung Fu Hustle. If you haven't seen Kung Fu Hustle, honestly, I think Kung Fu Hustle's for everyone.
SPEAKER_02Uh it's great.
SPEAKER_01I think it's an amazing film.
SPEAKER_02It's great.
SPEAKER_01Top notch. If Leslie says so, because you're not a big you like action movies way more than I think people assume you do.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But this is like fantasy, action, crazy storytelling, really interesting characters. That's Kung Fu Hustle. You okay?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01Shaolin Soccer, I like your earrings.
SPEAKER_02Thank you.
SPEAKER_01Shalin Soccer is not as good as Kung Fu Hustle. But if you like if you like Kung Fu Hustle and you just want to watch a mindless movie that'll just tickle your early tickle you and very entertaining. Yeah. Watch Shawn Soccer. First time I watched Shallon Soccer, I watched it again. I ran down to your I ran down to Uncle Dan and Laura's house. Come back and watch this with me. I'm pretty sure I did. Uncle Dan, you can correct me. I'm sure he was just like, great.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. I bet he liked it.
SPEAKER_01I'm sure he liked it.
SPEAKER_02Describe the scene though.
SPEAKER_01So the scene, this is the scene where Stephen Chow's character, I'm not even gonna go. They all have, they're all these Kung old Kung Fu brothers who now have like regular jobs now. Let's just say that. They're all washed up. And you almost even, at this point in the movie, you almost wonder if they even really know Kung Fu. And and this is like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon level, like X-Men.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like flying through the air, anti-gravity.
SPEAKER_01Crazy Kung Fu. Well, there's this scene where the coach is trying to get him. He he can kick the ball really hard, but he doesn't have any grace, he doesn't have any control. He's like wild things from from uh um major league. You ever see that? Nope, keep going. Okay, so this is what Leslie's here for to keep me going. And he so he gives him an egg. He says, You can't play with a soccer ball until you can kick this egg around without breaking it. So he throws the egg, lands on his foot. Cracks. Cracks on his foot. His brother, a small brother is what he calls him, lightweight. He comes running across the field.
SPEAKER_02But he's not lightweight, he's a big old baby. He's a big boy. He's like sumo.
SPEAKER_01Yes. And he's in kung fu hustle, too, I believe. I think he's his friend. He comes running around, running across the field. He sees the egg break on his foot. It was one of his eggs.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And he's screaming and it's slow motion, and he drops to the ground and starts eating it off of his foot, off of his shoe. Like eating the the broken egg off of the soccer cleat. And they they get him off of there, and it's just a ridiculous scene. And he gets they pull him away, and he's like crying because his eggs are gone. And the coach takes another egg and throws, let's try this again. He throws it and it hits Stephen Chow on his lap, and it cracks an egg on his lap, and the brother like breaks out of the people who are trying to hold him back and to go, and I I would guess it never happens, but he takes a egg off his lap. But the brother thinks fast and throws an egg in one of the other brothers' mouths, and then he s changes, he course corrects uh little brother, the big little brother wink wink, ironically speaking. Turns around, tackles the other brother with the egg in his mouth, and just starts eating the egg out of his mouth.
SPEAKER_02So don't quote me. But I'm pretty sure the clip you sent me ended with him eating off of the shoe.
SPEAKER_01Oh no.
SPEAKER_02So that's gonna heavily influence the superlative that I thought this was winning.
SPEAKER_01It doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Okay. Well, would you like to know what I thought about?
SPEAKER_01I would like to know, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I thought that Shaolin Soccer won the award for best use of a shoe as a plate in a movie.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's great. That's great. And I'm not even gonna say I wonder if somebody did that better, because there's no way.
SPEAKER_02No way.
SPEAKER_01No, that might be it. I I this is just honestly, it I it's it got the award for most passionate love for eggs as a food.
SPEAKER_02Ah.
SPEAKER_01Like I figured, like as birds.
SPEAKER_02Well, as you continued the scene, I was like, well, maybe there's some lizards.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I was gonna go egg direction, but then I was like, shoo, it ended on the shoe, so well, that's why I was talking about pinkful mangoes, because Edie, if you haven't seen Pink Flamingoes, don't watch with your kids.
SPEAKER_02Rob, don't. That's my tip for the day.
SPEAKER_01There's an egg, the the egg lady. She's always screaming about eggs and she marries she marries the egg man. Sorry for the spoiler. Um, but I I really just want to talk about pinkful mangoes. But I love shallow in soccer, and uh there do you there you go. Let's move on.
Ever After And Spies Like Us
SPEAKER_02All right, ever after, Cinderella story starring Drew Barrymore.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Uh I've never seen it.
SPEAKER_02So I owned a VHS, and that was a big reason why I re-watched it. Because we did not have cable or satellite. And so, like in the summer when I was a teenager, I was home or whatever, I would just, you know, put a movie on and sit down and watch it, even if I'd already seen it a million times. So what do you think it won? So the scene that I sent you what was going on there. She her okay, so the house that she lived in, she's basically this is basically like a retelling of Cinderella. And she one of their um men like servants, the evil stepmother, sold him because of course they didn't have any money, and so they sold him and made it seem like he was a thief or whatever. So she was going and so sh she was like a servant herself or had been cast down like that as Cinderella is she dressed up like a proper lady to go and say that her she needed to get her servant back to save Oh, so she was hustling there. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02And then the prince came upon her and then they had their conversation. I figured she was a peasant, and then so one of my So she's not really a peasant, but she's treated like well, she's a servant in her own household, like Cinderella.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Oh, I see. I see what you're saying.
SPEAKER_02But she was pretending to be someone she wasn't.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna say something like Um If had this been real medieval Europe um award for you would be the one standing up for somebody in a cage, you would wind up in a cage yourself award.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's good.
SPEAKER_01And then I thought there's also an award, uh oddly enough, it's called the Drew Barrymore Award for uh hot in one scene and not so hot in the other. Back and forth, back and forth. I thought she was hot here. She's a great line at Walmart.
SPEAKER_02You haven't bought anything.
SPEAKER_01I love Drew Barrymore. But she she is like uh I think uh I think that that as a as a whole, well, you know, she was in Freddie Got Fingered. She's pretty good looking in that.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01Um I know it was another movie that I was seeing if it was I think I like Freddie Got Fingered too much for that to be irredeemable.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01Um but she was yeah, she was married to uh Tom Green for a while.
SPEAKER_02Yes. So back to the movie though. Okay, there's this that part at the end when she says, I'm afraid the only name I can leave you with is Nicole Delancre.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, what's that about?
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01I I was lost. I didn't know what to do.
SPEAKER_02She won the award. You're not gonna believe this.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02For the best American accent speaking with a British accent, set in the 1600s, pronouncing her own name in a French accent with a cameo by a popular artist and inventor Da Vinci.
SPEAKER_01Wow, that's pretty specific.
SPEAKER_02It is the only thing I could ever remember about that is that her accent I felt was pretty bad for her like British. It was terrible, but then her mother's name was Nicole de Lancre, and she was French, and so then she's trying to say Nicole de Lancrey and she has to say it like 50 times during the movie because that's who people think she is once she introduces herself to Prince like that, and it's so bad.
SPEAKER_01Is in this is that like part of the is that this kind of like part of the movie?
SPEAKER_02No. Oh no, it's supposed to be good. Okay. She's just not very good at saying Nicole de Lancre.
SPEAKER_01Is it a good movie?
SPEAKER_02No, it's it's like a teen, you know, it was very much What was the movie with Heath Ledger where he was in the city?
SPEAKER_01Ten Things I Hate Autos?
SPEAKER_02Oh, first night or first. Was it first night? First night? I never saw it.
SPEAKER_01Night's Tale.
SPEAKER_02A Night's Tale.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I watched that. It was like I I enjoyed it. It was entertaining. But it okay. Okay, good. It was good.
SPEAKER_02She was three accents deep. Yeah, she And losing a little with every iteration.
SPEAKER_01Wasn't great.
SPEAKER_02The only name I can leave you with is a good one. All right, go on, go on.
SPEAKER_01Tom Green. Okay, okay. Uh let's uh Man, we gotta we have to fly. Okay, Spies Like Us.
SPEAKER_02All right.
SPEAKER_01This is the scene where the test scene? Yes. 1985, Spies Like Us, Chevy Chase. Have you seen Spies Like Us?
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_01Okay. What's that look?
SPEAKER_02It it's gonna influence my superlative.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. This is pretty I'll give you a little hint. It's a pretty straightforward superlative.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01Um it's the test taking scene where Chevy Chase walks in. I don't think I send you the full clip because he's like, sorry I'm late. I was in a meeting for a will. I didn't get any money. It's just like, and they're like stuck.
SPEAKER_02And he's got a cast on.
SPEAKER_01He's got a cast. He has a patch on he's behavior is just It's absolutely absurd. He farts in the beginning of it. He's gets up, he has a like a nervous breakdown while he's up screaming about how it's tests. He's trying to get Dan Aykroyd.
SPEAKER_02Real quick question before I say what bribes the teacher in the in the beginning of it. What happens when the teacher like hits a button and these cameras come out?
SPEAKER_01The cameras all come out and do they follow up on that? Or is it like Yeah, basically it's so the the just a five-second premise of the movie? These guys, Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase, are spies together. They think they're legit spies going over to like Pakistan or something to go on the Russians, and they get they're they end up being decoys for the real spies, but then they end up saving the day. They don't know that they're okay. And that's the angels in it.
SPEAKER_02Um well maybe maybe my I'll have to rethink my what that what it won. But for me, it won scene most likely to convince me that I don't think I could watch this movie. I was so uncomfortable in that scene. What were you uncomfortable with? Because he was acting so crazy while they were taking a test, and I just kept thinking, like, why is everybody just letting him do this? It was it was like making me cringe.
SPEAKER_01There are some pretty uncomfortable scenes in it where like, have you ever seen the bit you've I bet you've heard it before where the people are like, doctor, doctor, doctor, doctor, doctor? They're like posing as doctors, and they have to do an appendectomy, but they don't know obviously. And there's like one scene where they're like getting tortured, and then he's like, I'll cut off a finger for every answer you give me that I don't like. He's like, wait, whose finger mine are yours? Like it's got a lot of those kind of jokes.
SPEAKER_02Well, now that I know that they don't know that they're not the spies, that might make it easier to watch.
SPEAKER_01But like I was watching that test scene, like thinking that he was Oh, you thought it was like maybe a kind of a like a bit of a less absurd movie?
SPEAKER_02No, I just didn't know what to think about it, but it was like making me he was acting like such a a kind of a jerk dick sort of well he is. It's Jeffrey Chase. Yeah, well, now that I know that, maybe it was influencing after we watched uh community. But what did he w what did it really win?
SPEAKER_01It just won uh best cheating on a test scene.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01I I another one I I thought surely there's because I was gonna make it best cheating on a test with a fake arm and an eye patch or something stupid like that.
SPEAKER_02But it like how all of mine have been.
SPEAKER_01I love stupid, you know that. So, but they're not a lot of good test cheating on test scenes. There's like war games, but that's not really it's definitely the best one, I'm sure of it. Get school ties, maybe, but that's not really good. We gotta keep moving. Okay, okay, let's keep going.
Disney Dads And Final Movie Awards
SPEAKER_02All right. Uh I'm up to Little Mermaid. And the scene I sent you was just a scene where she gets he finds out she went to the surface again.
SPEAKER_01And he yells at her. Yes. Oh, yeah. For the sake of the viewers.
SPEAKER_02Yes. So what do you think that that that one?
SPEAKER_01I think that that one uh best example of why you should shut your mouth. Like you should keep your mouth shut.
SPEAKER_02Oh, wow.
SPEAKER_01Because both Flounder and Sebastian completely put their foot in their mouths and ruin everything. Um although, as we know, spoiler alert, it all works out.
SPEAKER_02It does. Uh best cartoon father that looks like a grandfather.
SPEAKER_01I was thinking about doing something like Hottest Grandfather Dad. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So when I was little, I actually don't think I knew. I mean, I think I was confused. I think I thought he was her grandfather.
SPEAKER_01He must be a grandfather.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but then she's calling him daddy. So and I've just always looked at it like, man, he's an old dad.
SPEAKER_01I got a question. This is in my notes.
SPEAKER_02I do have an old dad though, so he that's true.
SPEAKER_01But then uh he's kind of hot. Yes, he's very hot. Um they say fish eaters, they're referring to humans. Yeah. What do they eat?
SPEAKER_02They eat that stuff, that seaweed and stuff. Gosh, that's your friends, not food.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Okay. All right, go on.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Um You are up to He Never Died. He never died. I've seen that. We've seen that, right?
SPEAKER_01Yes, we saw it together actually. That was an Uncle Dan recommendation back in the one thing. I love that movie. I I think I do. I I've love I remember loving it. I've only seen it once. I've seen this scene a few times. So this is the scene where Henry Rollins is playing, he's he's I think this is I think this is even in like the plot synopsis, but like the the without the spoiler-free one, where he is Kane, like from the Bible. Uh and it's it's a it's like a gangster movie. It's pretty cool. It's like almost a little like the crow. Okay, I got I'll keep moving.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you have to keep moving. We have a protection left.
SPEAKER_01He's on a date with this woman, and she asks, like, you know, I don't know anything about you. What have you done? And he he he he lists all of his jobs, having lived for what, eight. Do you have the jobs written down? No. Oh, okay. You you you look like you were about to.
SPEAKER_02I was going to say, if you're going to list all the jobs, just count them and tell me how many jobs he says he had.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I don't know.
SPEAKER_0225, 35.
SPEAKER_01It's just it's hilarious because you know he's lived for thousands of years.
SPEAKER_02And he's like so deadpan and kind of like just saying, Well, I was this and then this and then this.
SPEAKER_01And they're like, I did this for a while, several.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they're careers. They're not just like I worked at Best Buy for a couple years. It's like I was a teacher. I was a retail of every kind. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh he's like uh prison. There's a lot of prison in there.
SPEAKER_02And her eyes are just like confused because she's like, What? Like, because she of course doesn't know that he's like the original king.
SPEAKER_01I've never been a waiter. She's like, Yeah, you'd be a terrible waiter.
SPEAKER_02So my award was I think that it won an award for the most impressive resume. Oh yes, we each we got one of each so far. That's so exciting. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Yes, best resume in the movie. All right.
SPEAKER_02So Star Wars Return of the Jedi. I sent you two clips that kind of go together. I could not find one that showed exactly what I was looking for.
SPEAKER_01So But Return of the Jedi was the one because the first one was from New Hope. Or from sorry, the Cantina scene.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but that's his Cantina, right? It's Job of the Hut's place. Isn't it?
SPEAKER_01Um I don't think so. Is it? Well, I thought Does he own it? Oh man, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02I don't know either. Gosh, I thought he did, because that's pretty important.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02We're gonna operate on as if Job of the Hut, that was his his own.
SPEAKER_01I mean that's where he sees Hunt, right? That's where he meets Han the first time.
SPEAKER_02In the in the cantina?
SPEAKER_01Isn't he in the Well that's in the second that's in uh that's in uh Empire Strikes Back.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, and and Princess Leia is in her little slave outfit with a with Job of the Hut.
SPEAKER_01Oh, is she? I didn't huh. I didn't I don't remember that.
SPEAKER_02Alright, we ready?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02What do you think it was? You got nothing?
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah, I got um uh most impressively diverse set of anthropomorphic characters in a movie set.
SPEAKER_02Wow, I wish that's what it was. That's what it is. You did it!
SPEAKER_01I was just really confused between the well, I think maybe I I'll be less confused when you tell me what it is.
SPEAKER_02It's probably gonna be totally ridiculous if I'm because I'm probably blending two memories into one scene.
SPEAKER_01Well, I was just like, these are two movies.
SPEAKER_02Best human pet in a cantina.
SPEAKER_01Was he in the cantina? Are you talking about the little rat guy? Oh, human pet. Right, right.
SPEAKER_02She was in the there were wasn't she in there when there were people there.
SPEAKER_01Gosh, I don't, I don't know. I don't think so. I thought the cantina was um Fire me from this podcast. I thought the Cantina was just uh Luke just shows up in the video. And that's where they met up. The first one before he meets Han, they shoots a guy.
SPEAKER_02I thought that was I thought Jabba, when they went to see Jabba, I thought he was enjoying a I'm not saying no, I just don't remember. All right, comments, please help us out.
SPEAKER_01I didn't think Jabba was even really shown until the second one.
SPEAKER_02All right. It's been a while. It's been a while. Her in that costume with him is a core memory for me. I just was like, what's a core memory for a lot of people? Is this who is that gross booger? And what like she looks beautiful, but I don't this seems really like out of it's kind of disturbing. It's kind of yeah, and it's also a little out of the to me, it's a little outside like the what you would expect from the Star Wars universe.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02At at that time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Well, George Lucas is a nerdy dude who's uh He was living his best life.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, for sure. You know what, Carrie? I got you this costume and this leash with the collar.
SPEAKER_01She's like, I don't know. You're like, I have cocaine.
SPEAKER_02Oh my gosh, she was Debbie Reynolds' daughter, and she isn't singing in the rain.
SPEAKER_01This is this is random, but uh I love the way he's like he's like sleeping.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and then also he's like Yeah, it's a good puppet. This is really good.
SPEAKER_01Java.
SPEAKER_02Uh all right, you go. Okay, uh what uh you are up to he crocodile Dundee.
SPEAKER_01Oh okay, yeah. So this is the scene, it's at the end. Sorry, a little spoiler here. But Mick, Mick Dundee, have you seen Crocodile Dundee?
SPEAKER_02I've seen maybe one. My dad used to really like them, so I know they were on when I was home.
SPEAKER_01It's an entertaining watch. It's an 80 staple. You pretty much gotta watch it. Um anyways, I won't review it. He is at the end. Uh I can't remember the woman's name. They actually got married in real life.
SPEAKER_03Aww.
SPEAKER_01And divorced. Um. So they she's le she was gonna marry somebody else. She decides she loves him. He's leaving, he's going on the subway. She tracks him down.
SPEAKER_02And then the subway is so crowded.
SPEAKER_01Subway so crowded.
SPEAKER_02Just for the record, I was in New York City recently, and I never encountered a subway platform that had quite that many people on it. But what do I know?
SPEAKER_01There's a lot of people waiting for that subway.
SPEAKER_02There were.
SPEAKER_01That subway was actually not a real subway. It used to be a real subway. They closed in 1975. Since then, they pretty much just do movie stuff in there. Like Joker was shot in there. That's cool. Yeah. Anyways.
SPEAKER_02So she's shouting telephone style. She's like, Hey, I need that man in the hat. And so the guy closest to her, he calls out to the next guy down, and that guy sees Crocodile Dundee, and then he calls. So then they have this conversation back and forth, and uh and then they end up getting together.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's a pretty funny scene. It's not funny.
SPEAKER_02So when they get together, it's my romance.
SPEAKER_01I want to represent some romance in this.
SPEAKER_02When they get together, then all the people in the subway are like rooting for them and everything.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, cheering.
SPEAKER_02So I'm guessing that it is a scene most likely to have the audience clapping in the theater of the movie.
SPEAKER_01Oh wow. No, you'd have to be.
SPEAKER_02And then in parentheses, I wrote, and me leaving early.
SPEAKER_01Well, it's the end, so you'd be getting to your car on top. No. Um you actually I'm gonna give you a second guess with a huge hint. You kind of got it while you were describing the scene.
SPEAKER_02Telephone, best game of telephone.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna go with the most impressive game of telephone in the movie. Yeah, yeah. I was gonna go with the book. The accuracy is amazing. I know it's just two guys in the middle.
SPEAKER_02I don't know why the second guy changes it to first person. Because the the first guy's like, she says this, and then he's like, Why do you love me or whatever? Like instead of it.
SPEAKER_01I think maybe he's in uh you know, I'd be honest with you. I don't think that guy was even a construction worker. I think he was more of a uh village people kind of guy.
SPEAKER_03Dancer.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and he was just having fun. He's he did some some drama back in high school. He's like, I'm doing this. I'm gonna sell this, I'm gonna get these two get two together. That's right. Um, I was curious as to how they did the because he's like walking on people's heads. Like they it did there was just a beam. You can actually see the beam in the movie if you look real closely. You pause it at the right time. Anyways.
SPEAKER_02Wow, it was the 80s of time to be alive.
SPEAKER_01Did you see the second one?
SPEAKER_02I don't know. I don't even remember that scene, so it's so cringy. I I hated it.
SPEAKER_01It's the it's not the best movie.
SPEAKER_02Uh alright. Um my final movie?
SPEAKER_01Reginaldville Johnson's in it, though. So I missed that. Or the Lemo driver. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Uh okay. My vinyl movie was Clueless. And the scene I sent you was the opening scene where Cher's like just like narrating, and then I'm this kind of person, and I do this, and I like this, and it's like the you know, kind of setting the stage for the movie. Here's all the cool stuff I have. Yeah. So what do you think that one, the award? And she's like getting ready for school.
SPEAKER_01Um the uh teenage teenage girl choice award for the most enviable closet.
SPEAKER_02I wrote Best Automated Closet. Yes. I love that movie.
SPEAKER_01I'm sure everybody Yeah. Oh, you love the movie, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but yeah, I mean they nailed it with that. Like you were just saying, like, I wanted I wanted the outfit, I wanted it all.
SPEAKER_01So I I I really I I watched that movie and when it came out, I saw it in theaters, and it was the first movie I ever went to where I really just I didn't wasn't interested in the movie at all. In fact, I was almost dreading it, but it there was just like I seen the trailer and there's a lot of really good-looking girls in it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and you're like, I I'll I can do this.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I ended up really liking the movie. It's great. It's a great movie.
SPEAKER_02Um what's her what's her boyfriend's name? Um Cher's boyfriend? Uh not Cher, uh Dion.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. From Scrubs. Yeah. What's his name? I can't ever think of it.
SPEAKER_02He's my favorite character in the entire He's pretty good. And the way that Dion talks to him. That's like my favorite sidekick dynamic right there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we should talk about clueless sometimes. Good flick. HDO, same uh we should watch it. Same director did uh she did uh Fast Times of Regimont High, I think.
SPEAKER_02Well, I liked how when we were listening to the rewatchables, I mean I've never listened to a full episode, but I liked it when they were like, what has aged poorly and what has aged well.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Did they do that in everyone? That would be fun to do on a clueless.
SPEAKER_03Totally.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. All right. Your last movie is Ace Ventura 2.
SPEAKER_01It was one of them, probably the first touch screens, too. Like I didn't think this is like what, 95?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think I was in junior high, maybe.
SPEAKER_01It's on borderline AI. Man, it's kind of advanced art.
SPEAKER_02Video games. It's basically just wrote a video game for it. Yes. Okay. Ace Ventura 2.
SPEAKER_01Ace Ventura 2.
SPEAKER_02Describe the scene as briefly as you can.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Um fur, and there's a man with her. Ace Ventura's at a party, and there's a man with her, a very small man. I'm assuming for the sake of that shot that he does. Uh Jim Carrey must not be very strong. Um, anyways, she's wearing a fur. He's giving her crap for wearing a fur. Uh, and I don't remember the exact dialogue, but he punches the man who's accompanying her in the face after making references to her to him being the Monopoly guy. I think for the free parking. And he is walking around the party wearing this man as a like a boa. Is that am I using the right word? Yeah. And he says. And then he goes.
SPEAKER_02I was like stepping on my headphone cord.
SPEAKER_01And then at the very at the very end of the scene, he dips him, dips him, and then he like makes his talk. He's unconscious the whole time.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01He goes, Do not Basco. Do not collect. So cracks me up. That's my favorite thing.
SPEAKER_02My favorite part of that scene. I mean, that was funny, but my favorite part of that scene was the beginning when he turns around and he has all that food all over his face. Yes. And then he just throws it on, and then he goes to people's plates and touches all their plates right before he goes to talk to the lady.
SPEAKER_01So absurd.
SPEAKER_02All right. I think that that one. This is pretty. I think I I think I might be right on the money with this one.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Best use of the Monopoly Man as a fur wrap.
SPEAKER_01No, but it's definitely about that. And it's you're pretty close. Okay. But it's uh best and voluntary oppression of a mascot.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I like that. Yeah, that's a good one. I like that. You did good.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, honey.
SPEAKER_02That's a good one to end on that.
SPEAKER_01Thank you so much.
Why We Cover Beltane Walk
SPEAKER_02All right, let's switch gears. Okay. That was fun. I loved it.
SPEAKER_01We we have uh I was telling uh Leslie we I I think I probably have enough of these to do. I didn't even do a single action movie. Can you believe it?
SPEAKER_02No. Real quick, do you ever feel like we're like, well, I said this before where we're like, hey mom, look at us. Like when we'd say, I was telling Leslie, like we're literally in a basement alone talking to a camera and we're pretending there's people listening.
SPEAKER_01It's like it's a little cringy. It is a little, yeah, it totally is.
SPEAKER_02But we're gonna keep doing it. So anyway.
SPEAKER_01I like it.
SPEAKER_02You were telling me what we could do it again?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I have I could do this. Like, we would probably honestly just make a podcast, but this is all we do. I've seen a lot of movies.
SPEAKER_02Well, I've thought of another idea for a podcast since we were sitting here for another show.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02Not another podcast, but another show. But do you want me to tell you on air?
SPEAKER_03Sure.
SPEAKER_02All right. I'm I would come up with several prompts, and then you would be challenged to describe those things in 30 seconds or less.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's not even fair.
SPEAKER_02Oh, but it would be gold. It would be gold.
SPEAKER_01I can't.
SPEAKER_02I can't do anything.
SPEAKER_01The whole the entire reason for me to need this.
SPEAKER_02Well, I would let you have extra consumption corner at the beginning. We could just do we could do it for just 10 minutes. Just 15, 25, 35, 45.
SPEAKER_01I hate brevity. I like it in other people.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, all right. Let's move on. We are doing Beltane Walk by T-Rex.
SPEAKER_01By T-Rex, which is pretty much Mark. Well, this T-Rex is a is a full band.
SPEAKER_02How do you say his last name?
SPEAKER_01Bolin.
SPEAKER_02Bolin.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I'm pretty sure. I actually know.
SPEAKER_02It looks like it, but I didn't know.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, Mark Bolin and then uh Mickey Fenn. Mickey Fenn, you did you see the the cover of that?
SPEAKER_03Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_01Uh where they're both kind of standing next to each other. Yeah. Mickey Fenn is the drummer. Okay. He's like the only at the time anyway, he was like the only, I think, actual set member of the band.
SPEAKER_02Well, because here's the thing. I watched a top of the pops episode. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh, hot with uh Hot Love.
SPEAKER_02Did you see who was playing the piano in the one in the one that I saw? No. Elton John. Are you serious? Yeah, and it was on. How'd I miss that? I'll sh I'll send it to you.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Elton John is on the piano.
SPEAKER_01Man. Um so yeah, he he paired up with uh with Visconti. Uh was it Tony Visconti? I think so.
SPEAKER_02Sounds good, yummy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it does. It's a delicious last name. Um, who's the one who did that guy is super talented. He uh he did it's either Tommy or Tony, but Visconti is the last name. But he worked with David Bowie. David Bowie, Bowie and Bolan were kind of like not head to head, but they're the whole weird glam rock kind of for sure. Like like Bolan's T-Rex is is credited for kind of starting glam rock. That's why I sent that video. Yeah, where he's got the tear, like the glittery tears and the set and jump.
SPEAKER_02The everything. Everything the the presence of yeah.
SPEAKER_01And his voice is just it's great. He's so wild, he's super, super prolific.
SPEAKER_02He was there were so many songs that I like listened to it in Essentials, and I was like, this is them. This is this, this is yeah, I had no idea. They're just like staples of oldies that are like kind of rock staples.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's the cool that's I I love it.
SPEAKER_02That's what Gilton Joe was playing on, was get it on.
Glam Rock Origins And T-Rex Context
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. Gotcha. It's it's this like you know, like I made the David Bowie comparison, but I love it because it's this it's 50s music basically, but it's got oh just a really crazy subject matter. Like he's singing about fantasy land.
SPEAKER_02Well, yeah, what is he singing about in this song? I have no idea.
SPEAKER_01Well, uh we'll talk about a little bit. I know a little bit about it. It's funny because we go, it's it's it's basically like a pagan, a reference to like what the something they would a community uh community festival they would have done like Stonehenge or something. Bell Beltane. That's like yeah, uh it's like purification through fire, okay, but finding love and through community, that kind of thing, or something like that. Just like that. Yeah, just something that kind of stuff. Super straightforward. But he he he got his roots in like folksy he's had he had 12 studio albums. He died in a car crash.
SPEAKER_02I know, I saw that.
SPEAKER_01Um 12 12 like proper studio albums in a what a nine year period. He was doing his own thing.
SPEAKER_02Jeez, 12 in nine years.
SPEAKER_01The guys who who who worked with him musically over the years said that he just never had like a lot of people dry up when they're songwriting and he just always had more. He just cigar just like it's just a valid.
SPEAKER_02You know what? He seems like he doesn't have a lot of um parameters on what's okay. Like he didn't he wasn't real self conscious. Right. And I feel like if you are don't really care about stuff like that, then you probably are more open to just sharing what's in your head.
SPEAKER_01Totally. I you probably see on the outside. Yeah, but like I he's probably the guy kind of guy who had just compulsively had to. You know, I don't know, I'm taking some liberties there with what I know, but reading about him. A little bit and just just a just uh is that uh talk faster?
SPEAKER_02I was like, I love you. We're having a foot tap off screen because we're marrying.
SPEAKER_01For those of you who uh aren't watching, who are just listening, there's a foot tap.
SPEAKER_02No one can see it, even the people that are watching. It's a secret foot tap.
SPEAKER_01For those of you who aren't actually here in our basement, it's the clutter and the triples.
SPEAKER_02Hey.
SPEAKER_01Just kidding, it's clean. It is on the other side. It is on the other side, it looked great on the other side.
SPEAKER_02Thank you.
SPEAKER_01We did that this week too.
SPEAKER_02All right, back to T-Rex.
SPEAKER_01So T-Rex, he um, yeah, he was. I guess uh Viscani saw him, he'd seen him perform. It was just like this guy's a genius. I'm going to but he Viscani's the one who added all the strings and would he's basically, I'm just gonna make this guy sound good. He's gonna do his thing, and I'm just gonna posture him up and make him like I I wouldn't say George Martin kind of guy with the Beatles, but because I think George Martin was a bit more of a creative force. I think Viscani was more not that he's not creative, he's a great musician in his own right, but he he's the one who added all the strings of this song and the kind of kept that uh just the pace of it and the feel. Yeah, this is one of my favorite songs of all time. Uh it's definitely my favorite T-Rex song. Beltane Walk is probably one of my favorite songs, like maybe top 10, top 20 for sure.
SPEAKER_02It's a great fun song. I never heard it before.
SPEAKER_01It's a blue shuffle.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Mixed with my favorite chord progression of all time, the one we use in our theme song, the do-wop. What do you what do you call that?
SPEAKER_02One 1645, I think.
SPEAKER_011645. 16 minor 4'5.
SPEAKER_02It's like the uh heart and soul. Do do do yeah, or Muppet Babies, if you will. Oh, is that Muppet Babies?
SPEAKER_01But it I I thought there would be more, so I could not find another song that did a blue shuffle into a uh do-op chord progression, changing keys, too. Yeah, it changes keys, but it sounds like it should change keys.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, what is going on there? I don't know. I would be absolutely lying and just talking out my you know what if I acted like I knew. So the only so it's in the key of E major. It starts and ends in E major. That's usually you're tell what key it's in. But the chorus is in C major. And the only commonality that's in the chorus back to the verse is the A minor. Right before you when you have you have C, A minor, F, G, then C A minor, E. That's how the chorus goes.
Chords Key Change And Strings
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it takes you back to the E.
SPEAKER_02Well, if you were an A minor and you wanted to you could use an E major. And then that so the A minor and the E major. Like the A the E would be the five of the A minor.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02But in this case it just takes you, it's just using the A minor to take you back to the E. I don't know. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01We need someone more more uh Is that like five so that's like five of five but with them in a minor key?
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_01That's not even the same thing. No. Okay. I don't know what I'm talking about.
SPEAKER_02You know, I and I don't really know that there's anything to do.
SPEAKER_01But it just works really well.
SPEAKER_02It sounds like it they use I mean there's some commonalities in the A minor and the E because they both have an E in them.
unknownGosh.
SPEAKER_02And they use I think they use the A minor to get back to the E. Then there's also there's also, you know, it's popular to take the in a major key the third chord of the on the third, like in the key of C, E's the third note. Okay. That's a minor. But it's also popular to make that a major. We've done that many times. So whatever you want to call that, they're kind of doing that backwards.
SPEAKER_01Gotcha.
SPEAKER_02Or it's a flat six in the key of E. Is that would that be the C sharp and but it goes to C. But it wouldn't be major, it wouldn't be minor.
SPEAKER_01But then the whole chorus just follows suit. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So see, I don't know. I don't have an answer.
SPEAKER_01Like I said, the cool part is it's not because you know a lot of times when you hear a key change or you hear it's kind of almost even if it's good, it's a little bit of a jar, like kind of jarring.
SPEAKER_02I think they must use the melody um to to do that.
SPEAKER_01Yes. I was gonna say in the common notes. If you want to win a song, it's almost cheating, put strings in it, right?
SPEAKER_02Like you and like poppy strings. Like this wasn't like dramatic. These are like fun.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and Mickey Finn on the drums, he's keeping it going. He's super simple, but it's it's it's it's got it sounds like a walk. It sounds like you're walking. And it's this guy's going to like it. I love the lyrics. Like, again, I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_02Well, it's a walking bass line, that's why they call it that.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that makes sense.
SPEAKER_02Not I mean, really, it's because you're walk literally walking from one note to another.
SPEAKER_01The little riff, the boom, pff, boom, pff, boom, don't, don't, don't. It's such a it's this song sounds like I've heard this song a million times, but I don't think I ever have. Like, I again the structure I never heard it before. No, but I mean like the lyrics are obviously incredibly unique, but two very again, it sounds like the the the bones of a song that I've heard 20 times, but I think it's just because there's a million blue songs, a million doo-wop songs, but he's combined them both and talked about he's a big, I think he was a big like Tolkien fan, C.S. Lewis, and was big enough fan because Beltane, he talks about Beltane and um uh Ride the Right Swan, I think, I think, of Ride the White Swan, which is also on that album. So he kind of does like a little bit of a kind of building, just kind of loose lore. Like the Cosmere or something. And but I love the he's like he's just going on this little jaunt to I saw this guy and I saw this girl, and she's God still. I love this use of star hide. Yeah, whatever that. I don't know what it is, but it's just so weird. And the way he's give us love, give us little loves.
SPEAKER_02I I wondered if you were gonna give a little shout out to Dennis because there's a little bit of a Dennis, a little for you. We picked the song for you, Dennis.
SPEAKER_01And he uh pre-michael Jackson stuff. He sounds a little like Nico and uh Velvet Velvet Underground or like um Colin Bluntstone from uh the zombies. The you know the Odyssey and Oracle.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01That that singer, he he kind of has that like a little bit of a little bit of a lisp, but like um not but not enough to actually be one. Yeah, it's it's uh he's just really unique. Uh I love I love uh most of the stuff he's done.
SPEAKER_02Uh it sounds like he's having a great time singing it. Yeah, I listening to a recording.
SPEAKER_01It's kind of like a sort of thing. Like you don't often yeah, like almost like in a Jimmy Page way, like a good way. But like even playing it is like I screwed up. I'm like, I don't care. Like I I love this song. I I thanks for doing it with me. You were you nailed it on the so Leslie played keys. I played it I played acoustic guitar. I used a synth sound, though I wasn't like yeah, she played like a it was like a string kind of but I mean you you nailed it.
SPEAKER_02Thank you.
SPEAKER_01The string kind of I don't want to say they make the song, but they were really great.
SPEAKER_02Call for did you listen to any covers and give any cover awards?
SPEAKER_01There aren't many covers.
SPEAKER_02I saw some Asian guys.
SPEAKER_01I didn't watch any of them, but give me a sec, let me switch tabs here.
SPEAKER_02Uh at you and your cute little device.
SPEAKER_01Isn't that cute? Um Yeah, Bell Tane Wall covers blooding blooding mask, blooding, probably blooding. Um I said it scared me a little bit, kind of some unsettling harmonies. I didn't really like it.
SPEAKER_02I'll have to listen to that.
SPEAKER_01I don't know if what that means. Um honestly, just it wasn't my sorry blooding mask. Sorry, blooding mask. Hey, kudos to you though, for uh we share a common bond and and our love for for the songs.
SPEAKER_02Maybe they would only cover songs they hate. You don't know.
SPEAKER_01This was kind of before Glamrock, by the way. This is that um this is kind of almost folksy, sort of. Like her stuff is a bit more folksy. Uh Gabby Moreno, maybe that's who you were thinking of. That's the only other one I could find.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I saw I didn't watch it, but I saw a group of Asian friends.
SPEAKER_01Oh, man, what's it?
SPEAKER_02And it was in Chinese, like it was in character, so I don't think it's Chinese.
SPEAKER_01Sure. I follow you. I won't, I won't, I won't skin you for that. I liked I liked uh her version a lot. Female vocalist, great strings on it. They weren't doing the same thing, they were doing something completely different. Maybe something I didn't watch that either. I really liked it. It almost kind of had like a sluggish kind of sama groove to it. Really cool. Um did and you yeah, you you mentioned the uh might have been Mandarin folks doing it. Maybe not. Okay. I didn't say Mandarin, you did, but I think oranges. For oranges. I could go for some mandarin oranges.
SPEAKER_02No, we can just peel them right while we're working here.
SPEAKER_01Oh, peel. I was talking about out of a can. I want to drink the juice.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. That's those are the good old days. When's the last time you had that?
SPEAKER_01It's been a minute.
SPEAKER_02And did you ever cut your mouth on that?
SPEAKER_01I think I have, yeah. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I have.
SPEAKER_02Peeling that off the back of that lid.
SPEAKER_01Don't they put cherries in there too?
SPEAKER_02You can get them with that, but I don't it's not for me.
SPEAKER_01Do you have a um you want to talk about uh B sides?
Covers B-Sides And Dream Versions
SPEAKER_02Sure.
SPEAKER_01Do you want to talk about anything else about this song?
SPEAKER_02I got my B side. Mr. Bright Side by the Killers.
SPEAKER_01Like it.
SPEAKER_02Thank you. Nice. I almost went with uh I believe in a thing called Love by the Darkness. Is that what the Darkness is? Might have been a better one. But I just like Miss I just like the Killers a lot. And I I actually sometimes if I can't think of who I would want to put on a B side, I'll go to a playlist that's like inspired by and see who's on there. Killers was the first one, and I had already thought of the killers, and I was like, well, me and Apple we're on the same, we're on the same wavelength, so I'm going for it.
SPEAKER_01Nice. What about you?
SPEAKER_02What's your B side?
SPEAKER_01Man, um I I I I I don't I okay. I was gonna I'm gonna say ELO, sweet talking woman.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I like that. Yeah, ELO's a great B side for that.
SPEAKER_01It's kind of they got again more strings. I love ELO. Yeah. Yeah. In fact, their ELO might just kind of run the show on the next couple.
SPEAKER_02Well let's hear that then.
SPEAKER_01So if I can hear anybody cover the song, originally I had I was kind of going between between because I've been listening to a lot of BB King lately, um, who's kind of plays real melodically. I've taken the blue shuffle, uh-huh. Right. Who better than to give it to BB King? But then I was trying to find a song where he might have done like a 50s chord progression, see what he does. Couldn't find any. Uh in fact, I couldn't find like really any blues guys doing that. Um, of course, what's a blues guy? We could have that conversation, but we're not going to.
SPEAKER_02Um I'm very, very unqualified.
SPEAKER_01I like Bobby Wilmack a lot. He's got some cool, he's kind of got a little bit of like, I'm looking for a love groove to it. But then I thought, you know, traveling willberries. Roy Orbison, who the 50s, dude, dude, he could he would crush that hook. You got all those dudes could play blues. You got Jeff Lynn would be the Visconti kind of polish on it. Because he Jeff Lynn's the one who produced Wilberries and Harrison. That's how they met up.
SPEAKER_02Well, who's Elizabeth? Dan ELO.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah. Yeah. I thought Wizard, too, because that's that so Ron Wood was with Jeff Lynn in the original ELO, and then he went off to go the move, which is like an English band that never really made it over here for some reason. They're pretty good. And they did Wizard. We've listened to Wizard before. Glam rock, but like a bit harder, kind of honestly, probably weirder glam rock. They would dress up and stuff and uh um costumes, but they did they did a lot of 50s kind of sound.
SPEAKER_02Cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, excuse me. But yeah, I'm gonna go with uh travelbury's.
SPEAKER_02All right, well, I'd like to have an instrumental cover by the Glenn Miller uh oh like a big band type. Yeah, that'd be sweet. Wouldn't it?
SPEAKER_01Great idea. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I got the idea from the bass line. I thought it'd be fun to hear that, like with low brass. And then of course the strings are already in it, and then you could have like trumpets playing the melody and just kind of getting swingy with it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Cool.
SPEAKER_02All right.
SPEAKER_01I'd listen to that all day. Soundtrack. Would instrumental on that, or would that be Yeah, we'll just do an instrumental.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, let the let the horns or like a like a sax or a clarinet have some melodies. Nice. They could trade them back and forth in the verse and chorus. Come on, Glenn Miller, you can come to our concert.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, totally. Uh absolutely.
SPEAKER_02All right. So if you could Oh, the other reason I thought of it is because you know, in the mood, yeah. They double the parts a lot. Yes. There's like the whole whole orchestra is playing the same notes. You don't hear that very often, but then they do that with the bass line. Yeah. And they add the extra octave. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Gotta do the drums. I love the drums on that. It's so exciting.
SPEAKER_02So that was the other, that was the other thing I thought of. Playing it in octaves would be they're already doing that.
SPEAKER_01Excellent. I think by the way.
SPEAKER_02I feel like it did so good today.
SPEAKER_01I love that he talks about I love that I love it when the song sounds like he's bopping. Yeah, it's like he sounds like the whirlpool. It's such a cool song, man. I love it.
SPEAKER_02I feel like I could see your brother uh bopping down by a whirlpool to this song. Don't you think?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm sure Joe would like this too. Yeah. Yeah.
Soundtrack Picks And Closing Thoughts
SPEAKER_02Uh soundtrack.
SPEAKER_01Soundtrack. If this could be the soundtrack for a movie uh or show or anything. Well, it's gonna be crocodile dundee too.
SPEAKER_02Oh wow.
SPEAKER_01So Mick goes on a walkabout and uh in crocodile dundee too. And there's this part. So first of all, you got the you got that.
SPEAKER_02All I can think of is like underwear. Crocodile done crocodile dundee dunderwear.
SPEAKER_01Uh crocodile dundee too is I enjoyed it very much as a kid. I could, but pretty confident it's not didn't hold up very well. But I I have fond memories of it. Go ahead. He gets entangled with a Colombian drug lord of some kind. I don't remember. But anyways, he's in Australia and he goes on a walkabout, and there's this thing, he's got, of course, like tight with a bunch of Aborigines around there, and they and they uh there's like this kind of didgeridoo sort of sound. And whenever I hear Mark Bowler go, and then we'll walk out. That's what you hear. That's what you see. I love it. That's like this cock too, right there. Done too.
SPEAKER_02Well, I thought it would be a great soundtrack for Captain Jack Sparrow.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02Just like that. Because I mean, isn't he kind of a bowie? Isn't he who's or McJer? Like, what was his what did John uh Johnny Depp kind of based him on?
SPEAKER_01Like, I mean, probably Keith Richards was literally in the movie. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um But I thought, I thought, because he's always like kind of staying around.
SPEAKER_01That's great. Yeah. No, we're all fired.
SPEAKER_02We are. We did great. We came, we're back. We're back.
SPEAKER_01We're back. Just when you thought we went away. All right.
SPEAKER_02We're only 13 minutes over.
SPEAKER_01Sorry.
SPEAKER_02That's right. Actually, we're only 10 minutes over because when I told you it was 4 45, it was 4 47.
SPEAKER_01Oh, is that like uh we're leaving at five o'clock, but really we're leaving at 5 30, but you just want to make sure we're there all time.
SPEAKER_02You make me do those things.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
