SPEAKER_07I mean, you got a tennis ball over here.
SPEAKER_06Welcome, Race Fans, Watermelons and Wood Chips, presented by Central Iowa Diesel Performance, episode 25. We've made it to 25. Hey, hold on.
SPEAKER_08Before you get started, do we ever change, like, do we need to like change the intro? Like, you know, is or is that like stapled? I don't know. I mean, like how he says no, it's just it's almost like Bob Barker. Welcome, Brace Fans, the watermelons and wood chips. You know what they say? Oh, I like it. I'm just saying. Like, sorry, I mean, I just wanted to bring that up. Like, I've been thinking about it. I should have done it before we started, but you can continue on. I just want to decide.
SPEAKER_10I mean, it's gotta be a staple at this point.
SPEAKER_08Right, right.
SPEAKER_02I mean, 25. I still can't believe we're over like five. Who would have given 25 on him?
SPEAKER_08That's what my son Uncle Sniffer would say. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I heard him say that at the race party.
SPEAKER_08You did hear him say that at the race party a couple times. See, he was a little different this year because he was a little under the weather, so he didn't have any bush lattes in him. Usually he's a real meat head. I mean that in a good way, but I'll tell you what, I wonder.
SPEAKER_02Well, we'll save this for a little bit later. We might have a little different beer he could try this year and next year at the race party.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's that's that's right. Yeah. Yeah. But uh anyway, Jonathan Logs here. If you guys haven't noticed, uh Corey Salerman and myself and Josh Reynolds, we are at the Adobe Lounge today. The Adobe.
SPEAKER_10Cheers to the Adobe.
SPEAKER_08Hey. Adobe Lounge, uh great bar here in the only bar in the west side west side of Boone, Iowa. I don't know if a lot of the racers or anything know that. It's only approximately 2.7 miles from the Boone Speedway. So when there's 35,000 of you here at the Boon Speedway over the course of the week, we expect at least a dozen to dwindle in over here at the race bar.
SPEAKER_02I would think, I mean, honestly, guys are always looking for something to do, somewhere to go.
SPEAKER_08Right.
SPEAKER_02You know, especially, and I know we don't like to talk about rain, but if it were to happen.
SPEAKER_08But it rains every year. It does every year. I mean, at least even if it's during the day or in the morning, right. A lot of people are on vacation. It's a great place to come over, pick up a pizza, uh, strong drinks here too as well. I mean, you can come in here for 2025 and walk out needing a taxi and maybe uh vitamin B.
SPEAKER_02I heard I heard they pour them a little stiff. They'll pour them however you like.
SPEAKER_08That's one of the that's one of the greatest things about this bar is uh just a real small uh uh what do I want to say? Not clicky, but it's like there's just a good group of people here. There's no bar fights here usually.
SPEAKER_02It's a dive that isn't a dive. Right.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, that's a that's a really good way to put it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, well, uh your dad remodeled this, your dad and Steph remodeled this place, what, last year?
SPEAKER_08Well, they took it two years ago. They took it over in 2008. Um and it was under some they uh somebody had rent was running it for them. Uh then they they kind of came in and took over, and and Steph is uh she is the GM. Uh Josh, you know what a GM is.
SPEAKER_02I knew we made a connection when I walked in.
SPEAKER_08It just got those GM vibes. Right, right, right. Uh and uh man, basically we they had a kitchen to begin with. Uh the the old part of the bar uh is like the original bar that you know everybody's come here, and then there wasn't a really older bar next door called the West Side. Yeah, West Side. Gosh. There was a couple other places that it was. Uh dad would be able to fill that in. Garrett, well, maybe we'll have Garrett plug him in on that, but he ended up buying that place, tore it down, uh, which that pissed off a lot of people. Which he was able to keep the bar out of there, which uh went to Todd and uh Debbie Kennedy. They have that bar in their house. Yeah. So then dad created created down to a parking lot. And then uh just last year they remodeled the where we're sitting at here. Um and man, it turned out beautiful. Jason Price uh did an excellent job on this place, and uh yeah, dad put up some new signs and some bigger TVs, and I'm still trying to talk about. You know, like when you go to a casino and they have like the TV, like the four square TV center. Yeah. I'm like, that'd just be cool, you know.
SPEAKER_06I don't know if really it's like a like a mini Titentron, like when you go to like the Casey Center or whatever. Yeah. Just something different, you know.
SPEAKER_02They're badass. The the decor, like it's cool. Like he was telling me about the jackets that are up on the wall, those are from bars that have closed down in Boone over the years. But I know the camera can see that five time neon light back there. That thing is sweet.
SPEAKER_06Like, I was wondering where yours was at, but he said you haven't paid for it yet.
SPEAKER_08So well, I'm just waiting to I got uh a few more of those to get because then we'll put the six to we'll have to move his down. Oh boy. I mean, okay, I got three pretty quick, and then we went downhill ever since. I got well, A, I got a little fatter. My kids are getting older and I'm getting a lot busier.
SPEAKER_02Well, those stock cars need a little more left side weight in them.
SPEAKER_08They do.
SPEAKER_02And they, you know, you it's coming. We're working on it.
SPEAKER_08He's got that going for him. Yeah, it's been swelling up like a tick since Thanksgiving.
SPEAKER_02Hey, Steph didn't she didn't help things a little bit ago because that was some damn good pizza that we just ate.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Well, that that is one thing you don't go short on around here is you order a pizza here. I mean, it is uh very filling. Yeah. Um, I mean, they don't jack around best homemade pizzas in town. Um, and no, I'm not being biased about that because my parents own the place. But uh just be biased, brother. Name it name a place in Boone where you can get a pizza that's you know this thick. Yeah. Right. I mean, that's you know and done all the way through.
SPEAKER_02The crust was crispy in the middle. That's the first when I pick up a piece of pizza, that's the first thing I test for. It's not the old flop.
SPEAKER_08The old flippy flop, Casey's uh pepperoni. Really good.
SPEAKER_10One bite, everybody knows the rules. That's good, right? Right, right.
SPEAKER_02Hey, maybe we need to get on porno over there.
SPEAKER_10I mean, you might. He's good for publicity.
SPEAKER_02He is very good. He does, he does numbers. And I'm taking home some of that chicken noodle soup when I leave, too.
SPEAKER_08Uh dad's chicken noodle soup. He cooks it during the week when nobody's around, him and Scooter, him and his cat. Little you walk into the garage up there and you smell coffee, chicken broth, and noodles. I'll tell you, it's a good day starter. It's a good day starter.
SPEAKER_06That's for sure. Well, yeah, we came up uh the other day and met with John, and he was that we were giving him shit about your your freezer, your cooler's empty. There's no soup in there. You gotta get her. Well, he's been on vacation.
SPEAKER_08He's a two-month vacation or he's snowbirding now. It's like, you know, uh, I'm going through this with my kids. Like when they're younger, you don't really want to spend a lot of time with them. And I don't mean this in a bad way, but I'm getting older and my dad's spending less and less time with me. I'm like, bud, like we're we're you know, I'm a grown man now, so it's like we're best buds. You don't have to dad me all the time, even though he dads me all the time because I'm a little loose. A little loose with some things. And I I I I tell him all the time, like when the whole hand thing happened, you know, I had to call him and just tell him I was sorry because you'll get there someday with old stuff. Them boys are gonna be little fireballs, and I just can't wait for it. But uh it it's just one of them things, you know, and that's they dad and Steph have put so much time and work and effort into this place, and you can just really show. I don't know. If you're from Boone, you drive by here on Wednesday. It seems like Wednesday through Sunday, and the place the the parking lot's just full of cars. We've got a lot of regulars that come in here and spend a lot of time. We got the gals that play pitch and cards, and they do uh they do bingo stuff up here on Sundays. Uh so if you are here during Supernationals, which we probably need to talk to that with the old GM, but they might need to do a bingo special on Sunday of the of the Supernationals because like all the modified in sport mod or stock car drivers. Actually, they probably shouldn't do that after the showing that they had at uh Florida.
SPEAKER_02Maybe they should focus on their driving and send their yeah, hopefully by supernationals they got it shaped up.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, you guys say that all the time.
SPEAKER_02Well, I saw some serious ass chewings down there, and I think they're getting it. I think they understood. It seemed to get better as the week went along.
SPEAKER_08You know what we did forget to talk about about Nor or uh what we've seen in Florida was for the first time ever in my life, well, actually, excuse me, the second time, there was a goat in the grandstands at the Blackwater Speedway on a leash.
SPEAKER_02Guess what? There was two. Okay, and here's the story the one in the grandstands is the dad. The one in the pits in the stroller that they had zipped up that I have a picture of G. They are going to breed that one, that's the female, with the male that we saw, and they're gonna have little mini goats. And I'm not joking. Like, it was the dandelion.
SPEAKER_10No, that's what I'm talking about.
SPEAKER_08Goats at a racetrack in Florida. I come up to get some cheese balls and some chili fries, and I'm like, where'd this goat come from?
SPEAKER_02There's people batting it and shit, and I'm just like it around like a dog. Yep. I couldn't believe it. Oh yeah, yep. Yes, that was quite a deal.
SPEAKER_06Well, they're good. Next thing you know, you're gonna have a little goat walking around with stats and in the pits. Oh, absolutely. Right.
SPEAKER_02Hell yeah. Um, before we get away from like where the Adobe's located and stuff, I was over when we were up here talking with John the other night, you know, Old 30. That's I always think about that when I hear about Old 30, because New 30 is quite a ways away from here. But if you bring Old 30 through Boone, you're gonna come right by this place. And I'm pretty sure I know they haven't announced it yet. I'll bet you there's gonna be a lot of bicycles coming right by here this summer.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, uh ragbry. Um so I can't remember correctly, but twenty eighteen or seventeen, ragbri come through here. I think it was eight yeah, I think it was eighteen, something like that. And uh we learn the the Adobe Lounge learned that if you have shade, you're in good shape. Yeah, they like they want shade. You know, dad had a band, they I mean, went hog molly had the whole uh parking lot, I mean, had shit going on, and man, you watched so many people drive by. It was almost disheartening for a minute just because of how much preparation it took. Sure. And people were stopping in, but we just didn't have as much shade as what what they needed. You know what I mean? Like we thought, man, they're coming up that big hill, they're gonna be thirsty, they're gonna be coming in here. And it was busy, don't get me wrong.
SPEAKER_02But you know a guy that makes tents?
SPEAKER_08We had we had his tents out here. Okay, oh yeah, all right. Yeah, we had we did we had them. Dad and Steph had these big horse troughs set up with beers, and we had a little mixed drink station they had set up outside, and um, we're just hoping that this year is a little bit better for that. Yeah, we gotta plant some palm trees out there or what? No, we're uh right, just need a big canopy. Dad's been I think dad's looking for a big canopy to cover the whole parking lot. Yeah, yeah. Maybe we'll get some more stoppers. Yeah, right. But the the main drag right here, uh a lot of people don't know either, that the first ever Casey's general store was on the same road, just a block, two blocks from here.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it's on the corner of where going to my house.
SPEAKER_08Yes, correct. Uh and now it's some machine shop looking thing or something. I don't know what they uh 'cause the school had it forever. The school had it, yeah, just for a storage unit. But this is the original downtown Boone where it started at, where the horse and carriage and so yeah, because the the courthouse is right across the street, and that was yeah, that was the square.
SPEAKER_06Right. You know, back in the day, and then they had the barber shop and all this stuff right over here, and then yeah. Well before our time. Right. But Boone was actually two towns. Really? Yep. Yep. What was the other one named? This side was Montana, right? Or this side was Boone and the other side was Montana. But Division Street, it's over here, Division split the two towns.
SPEAKER_02I'll be damned.
SPEAKER_06That's why it's Division Street.
SPEAKER_02Wow. But this is I mean, to me, this is Boone. Like this area of town, you know, a little little bit uh I don't want to say older, but a little bit older buildings. I mean it's just it has more of a a small town feeling and well it's like Farley's.
SPEAKER_08Uh they had a grant deal, uh, you know, and uh gave the Adobe a facelift uh with new brick and stuff and and uh made the outside really look nice and then the other building on the other end, which is Farley's uh tire, they'd been there for a long, long time. Uh they finally sold Tony sold that building and and built a brand new building out across from the racetrack. But uh big time race supporters too. Um yeah, it's just like the the thing that I think is going what's going for the Adobe is this is the only drinking establishment on this side of town. I think that just really helps it, you know, and it's you get a lot of Westsiders over here, and it's a little rowdy on the west side.
SPEAKER_06We play for the keeps over here in the West Side. Right, I'm telling you. There's no there's no rules on the West side. There's no rules on the west side. We asked James Cunningham about that. Well, we got we got uh Corey away from his dump truck polishing today.
SPEAKER_02So how's the arms feeling? They get a little whipped up doing that.
SPEAKER_10I'm used to it by now. I mean John. Oh no, but I I was feeling I mean he's got a tennis ball over here.
SPEAKER_08He was a modern hey, look, he's he told me that he's been been in the gym. I thought maybe he was just pumping on Lizzie all the time. Lizzie, Lizzie, Lizzie K. Sauerman, Corey Sauerman, very good friends of mine. Uh you know, uh great people. You know, Corey moved her down to the old Johnston. I did married her and had a couple of pups with her.
SPEAKER_10A couple of pups.
SPEAKER_08Beautiful kids, you know. Shitheads. Shitheads.
SPEAKER_02They're always that way when they're yours, but everybody else sees them. They're like, man, your kids are so your kid was great here.
SPEAKER_10Look, come live with me, because he's not.
SPEAKER_06I mean, he is not, right? Both of them. Yeah, I feel the same way. Yeah, like, oh, your kids were so respectful, it's awesome. I'm like, uh-huh. Since wind. Yeah. Get up over here about 640 when I'm making that little prick up out of his bed.
SPEAKER_10But I I also look at it as like, maybe we're doing something right. If they're if they're shed heads at home and they're good everywhere else, right, I'm good with it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I always thought of it that they they must like you enough to let their guard down and act that way in front of you, but they know, you know, better in front of other people.
SPEAKER_08Well, come on, let's all know. We're we're all kids, have kids, uh, except Garrett. Uh smart smart man. Uh I love my kids that wasn't Jab sis or Ivan, but uh you know, we've been on both sides of that, being a shithead or you know, being respectful because maybe you know, like I mean, my mom would do this mean frickin' finger thing, you know, like the old we used to call it the Grammacron. But I'd drop you. You know. The Hertz donut. The hur you get the Hertz donut. Yeah, you get the Hertz down there. Yep, yep. Uh but we both we've all been on that side of of kids being great, being assholes at home, not doing things. Wait till Kellen and Coop, you know, and even Carter, when they get older, like my kids, like Ivan is doing some things. Well, you all know. Okay. I don't mean that in a bad way. I'm just meaning that as in like I hope my daughter's way.
SPEAKER_02We know you were driving the Ranger.
SPEAKER_08Hey, I was just out tick for a little bit. I was just out ticking around. For a little bit. She had a little tick to her, right? Yeah. That baby purse.
SPEAKER_02Just needs a half a quart. Just a clicker.
SPEAKER_08No, I no, I got some STP, you know, back because they everybody said back in the day. Yep. The old STP, that it'll quiet her down. Bullshit. Like the little kid.
SPEAKER_04Bullshit. Right, yeah.
SPEAKER_08So like, and the bad thing is, is like I try, I've said a hundred times, I don't hang on to things like being pissed off at somebody or whatever, but every time I get in that pickup, I want to choke my kid out. Like Tito Ortiz did to, you know, the Iceman one time. I don't know. I'm just like, I just but on the other hand, I told him, I'm like, but I got I do have some good news for you about it. The motor's only sixteen hundred bucks. You know, the uh a newer motor, it's got 70,000 miles on it, coming out of Pennsylvania. And it's only gonna be like 800 to change it. He goes, Well, I why don't you just let me change it? I'm like, because you can't even check the oil in. You're the reason it got this way. Right. Right.
SPEAKER_02Oh man. So anyway, yeah, so kids are awesome, Corey.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, no, I would I'd be lost without my kids. Oh, yeah. At this point, now that they've one's three and one's one, and I uh we sit there and sometimes they go to grandma's or or Gigi's, whatever. And me and Lizzie are sitting there watching TV. We're like, this is what our life is without kids? Like, is this what we used to do? Weird, ain't it? It's weird. Yeah. It's all quiet. Yeah, yeah. Like it's it's uh we lost a battle.
SPEAKER_08Enjoy it. No yeah. Enjoy it because uh it's just talking about I lost my grandfather here um you know, two months ago now. Um and I feel like I'm like, man, I'm pretty lucky, you know. I'm thirty-seven years old. I still got you know, grand I had one grandpa left and I still got a grandma left, and not a lot of people get that amount of time, you know. So let your kids go be little shits because grandma and grandpa let them get away with anything anyway. Or little angels or little angels. Or little angels, yeah. One of the two. It's either or. But you know what I'm saying though? Like you just you just never know on a deal like that.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Yeah, my kids, yeah. They'll Kellen's got a phone now, so he'll just call grandpa. Yeah. Hey, uh we need to we need to go look at this bat that they got down at Dix. Whatever whenever you can, you know, whatever, whatever works, right? Just thinking about it, you know. And then half hour later, dad calls, hey, uh, I think I'm gonna take Kellen down to Dix tomorrow. You think that'll work? I'm like, that little fucker, dude. Right. Old pony boy.
SPEAKER_02He knows how to he might know how to play that violin a little bit. You gotta slend a lot, man.
SPEAKER_08I mean, hey, I will say, when you have a divorce li uh parents, I don't know, I know Cody and I have uh Cody's parents are still together, my parents are not together, your parents are together, are yours? They are so I'm the only one.
SPEAKER_02Somehow.
SPEAKER_08So you see, I get blessed with uh with awesome step parents. So I got a stepmom and a stepdad, C's. But so Ivan is like trying to work the whole, you know, the angle with between me and his mother. And I'm like, bud, I've already I've done this for 20 years. You know, like I know what you're doing, you're not doing that. I know how to drive that road. Right, right. Blindly. You know, so just knock it off.
SPEAKER_02Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_08Quit digging your hole, buddy.
SPEAKER_02Nope, kids are fun. Someday they'll turn 19 and you just never know what they'll walk in on. Ain't that the truth? Ain't that the truth? I think I think John just left.
SPEAKER_08He thinks he's so tough. Well, okay, let's be honest. He is pretty tough. It sounds badass as shit. Right?
SPEAKER_06Uh yeah, well, he's coming back around. Oh, is he coming back around?
unknownHe went around that point.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Had to make a he had to make an appearance.
SPEAKER_06Well, hey, we're at a good stopping point. Should we go to our first break and then we'll come back and we'll get into this guy's racing accolades, career, all the all the things.
SPEAKER_02Is this gonna be our first break with Adobe Lounge?
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Yeah, so we'll send this over to Adobe Lounge, Central Iowa D Some Performance, and Moffitt's Ford. Yeah, it's a mouthful. Yep. But uh, right? Yeah. No, hey, we we seriously love before we take a break, we do thank all of our partners. Um it's awesome. And we keep keep being able to grow, which is awesome. SPEAKER_02You know what? And I'm here for it. This is good people. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Quite the run-on sentence we had going on there during the break. But hey, we want to get into stuff with our guest, Corey Sauerman. Races the IMCA modified class, number 17 at Boon Speedway. Runs a dump truck full time. You've got a few dump trucks now, don't you?
SPEAKER_10We're uh we're up to four. Oh jeez.
SPEAKER_06It's not a fleet now, buddy.
SPEAKER_10Ah, not quite a fleet, but uh trying to get more than that. And uh that's what takes all my time.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_10That's why I'm a Saturday night hero.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_10That's what some would call.
SPEAKER_08Saturday night boon speedway home track. Started racing a modified ten years ago.
SPEAKER_102017. Stop it. That's a just a coincidence that it was 2017 and I'm number 17.
SPEAKER_08So it's your golden year.
SPEAKER_10That was the golden year, yeah. I guess. Yeah. So long time ago.
SPEAKER_02How'd you come up with your car number?
SPEAKER_10So the old man raced from about 1987 to oh ninety-six, I think, was his last year. Um and it he was a DW fan. But I do it after my dad, and then I became a really big Matt Kinza fan. So uh that's why we're 17. Okay. When it when Matt changed to the 20, I was like, man, I don't know. I gotta stick with 17. Oh yeah. She's got her ring to it, you know. Right, right.
SPEAKER_06Well, and Steve raced the dwarf car division for the whole time he raced, right?
SPEAKER_10The whole time, yeah. He never uh never did nothing else, and that's that's all he did. Went to the fairgrounds, got one track championship, I believe, at Motown. And then uh That was when it was the high banks. Yeah. Yeah. And then uh then I believe what is the guy still the high banks?
SPEAKER_08Well, no, really. I mean, Jerry's been running the grater over there knocking it down. I don't know what he's been doing. But on another note, real quick, just to interrupt that, another episode here without the Jarrett. His brother showed up in here to have a pizza. Doug, haven't seen Doug. Usually he's on a Thursday, so that's why we decided to do this on a Monday. And I noticed Doug Johnson.
SPEAKER_02Did you notice Jason brought his beautiful wife along? He did. That was nice. He did.
SPEAKER_08They come down here to have a cheese bread and uh and a water.
SPEAKER_02Yep, she hadn't been here for a long time, so I heard, you know, maybe we're bringing more people in here.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, you just never know. You just never know. Anyway, sorry, Corey, I didn't mean to interrupt you there. I just had to bring up back when Marshalltown uh, you know, same same place, ran by the fairgrounds. I don't wonder who the track promoter was then when your dad won that.
SPEAKER_10It was it was actually I'm pretty sure it was Toby. Because the old man, he used to all he used to drink was Budweiser back in. So Toby actually named him the Bud Man years ago. Oh, really? And oh yeah, yeah, it's it's kind of like the same thing you got going on, you know. Uh Moses and all them, they'd stop up here at Boone or Motown and drink till sun up. Yep.
SPEAKER_08Budweiser, strictly Budweiser. Back when racing was racing, we used to have like truck poles and stuff. Remember that down the pits with chains and stuff?
SPEAKER_02Like we tried to get that to happen on the front stretch and we got nullified.
SPEAKER_10But we're gonna be putting some divots in the front stretch. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02We'll move around a little bit. Well, it's not right on the front stretch.
SPEAKER_10Well, let's box the light poles.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_08We figured out we figured. Can you get that snowblower out of my truck and put it in the earth? We figured out, no?
unknownIt's in my fucking truck.
SPEAKER_08That's weird. I'm taking it home, man. No, don't be taking my snowblower. I don't know who put it in there. Probably my dad. That's what happens when you have the same looking truck.
SPEAKER_10Well, wait a minute, isn't it 75 out? What do we still got snowblowers out for?
SPEAKER_08Well, because when when before we left to go to Florida, it snowed three foot here, you know. Yeah, a little bit. So I brought the snowblower up. It's an old two-stroke too, so bud that baby rips. I got some of Tyler McCumber's goat cart gas in it, so it just smells me like shit, you know. But I uh Brayden, I thought Braden was gonna load it up and take it home because I had him come up and blow all the shit out while I was in the skid loader cleaning the parking lot up. And uh so now all the locals here think that it's great to give me shit about leaving it up here, but it's like if it wasn't up here, you guys'd be walking through the snow to get your drinks.
SPEAKER_10And then they'd be mad about that.
SPEAKER_08Right, right. So your dad your dad wins the championship. What why did he quit? Just just just hung it up to focus on the trucking business, or was it about the same thing.
SPEAKER_10He uh he had eight at one time truck and pups. Uh and then I was born in ninety-four, so it was just kind of they'd uh he just got to a point where he'd just go racing when he wanted to. That was about it. Really?
SPEAKER_08So a fun fact about Corey is, and I could be totally murdering this, but his grandfather started this huge thing. Why don't you elaborate on that a little bit? Because it's it's I don't think a lot of people know this, and I think it's like a crazy thing. It's it's pretty crazy.
SPEAKER_10So uh he didn't really he didn't really start it. So back uh Jimmy White was his name. Well, Jim White, I guess. Jimmy White's his kid. But uh Jim White started down at the fairgrounds, and he kinda needed some money to, you know, kind of get started. I mean it takes a little bit to get started and some of that stuff. So grandpa had the ready mix and he came up, said, Hey, you know, give me I don't even know how much it was, whatever. And grandpa gave him the money, and that's kinda how uh a little bit of Des Moines at the fairgrounds for like dirt bike racing and some of that got started. He uh put on a show down there and came back and turned out it was it was a success. So grandpa had a little bit of part of it just by kind of loaning him, loaning him the money to get it going.
SPEAKER_08It's a pretty cool deal. Not a lot of people know that.
SPEAKER_10So my grandpa raised he raised flat track as well. Okay. So it's uh racing's kinda in the in the family a little bit.
SPEAKER_02So grandpa was a two-wheeler.
SPEAKER_10Two-wheeler.
SPEAKER_08How come you went four and not two? Too short?
SPEAKER_10I'm probably the pit bike too. I'm probably I'm probably better off being short on two wheels. Probably not wrong, but a little bit more than tall, yeah. Uh no, I just uh like four. I mean, a little it's it's still dangerous. But it's not quite like my grandpa, he broke his leg, strapped the crutches on his handlebars, and said, I'm gone. It wasn't wasn't his leaning leg, it was his right one. But he just said, you know, I'm broken leg.
SPEAKER_08That's pretty wild. So your first car, what inspired you to buy your first car and how old were you when you did that? And why? Oh man.
SPEAKER_02And who from? Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_10So uh uh me and and Taylor Galtman, we were just chilling in my room on Sunday and and uh scrolling Craigslist because Craigslist was a big thing back then. Craigslist.
SPEAKER_08And it was like this was before anybody knew what catfishing was. You know, it was like the pictures were a little blurry. You know what I mean? Remember that? I mean, don't act saying you're gonna act like you guys don't remember what they didn't search.
SPEAKER_10You go over to the community page or whatever.
SPEAKER_08I mean, I'm just saying, like, I might need a 12-pack to go meet to this one. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_10But it was still a Craigslist thing. No, it was if you're mean to Mon Craigslist, you're gonna have a 12-pack. I mean I mean, uh I never did it myself. I just I just scroll and look at them posts because I mean we were old enough family. So so we'd uh we just graduated, graduated high school in uh 2013. Uh like I said, we were just sitting there, found this car on Craigslist. We're like, man, oh see, oh, you know, shit, that's not that far, you know. We stroll on down Sunday evening-ish, look at it. Oh, we end up we end up taking it home. It uh turned out to be Colton Nelson's six-cylinder front-wheel drive. That Stuart only raced the Outlaw six-cylinder. And uh so we started there. I'd race Stuart and then Osceola, Clark County, we call it Clark County, Talladega is what we call it. But it's uh Clark County Speedway down in Osceola, they would race every other Saturday. Tanner would run it there. Really? Yeah, then I'd run it as Stewart. Oh yeah. Bill Gaver did behind the wheel. I didn't know that. I shit you not. Oh boy. Was he good? Oh yeah. Well, one night we lost power steering, and it was uh uh what do you call that? The uh the crew guy challenge, whatever. So I gotta race it, you know. But during the race, because they raced it first, we lost power steering. He came from uh they only got like eight, nine cars. He came from like eight, won that sucker. No power steering. Well, have you ever seen the forearms on him, bud? Did I mean he'd snap a green eight bolt like telling you? Uh and and he won it all the way from the tail. And actually, it's it's real funny we talk about that because about a month ago we found it on YouTube. The video? The video season championship on YouTube.
SPEAKER_08Were you able to manhandle it uh in the in the mechanics race? I was absolutely not. I got out there and I'm like, my god, what are we doing?
SPEAKER_05Slamming my eleven.
SPEAKER_08You couldn't handle the power steering thing, bud? Dude, no.
SPEAKER_10Banging off of him. Oh, dude.
SPEAKER_08So about like how you drive your modified now.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, just about. Some people say, yeah.
SPEAKER_08I mean, tell you what. Harry Mills says you touch his car one more time this year. What's he gonna do? Well, I mean, he is a golden belt wrestler, and I know you've been hitting the weights, but I'm just telling you, we got these new balls that we're gonna put then on the infield.
unknownOh, yeah.
SPEAKER_08It's like sumo wrestling. Sumo, though. Well, you guys won't be able to touch each other, but if there's a dispute on the racetrack, instead of going over to Cody or radio it up to Josh or Sarah, we're just gonna have whoever the dispute's about, we're gonna make them put these things on and do it right in victory lane. They had these at the Iowa State Red.
SPEAKER_06I mean, Josh. Like, we have to get these. They put these dudes in these big, big like inflated balls and they fucking bounce off each other.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, that'd be great. Yeah, right. And you for how short you are, you should have plenty of power. You and Mills would be in the same weight class. Right. Yeah, probably. That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_02They don't do weight classes in those, they do height class. So you're you can get Jeremy, you'd be alright.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, we're we're right about there. We've said it before, bud. Dynamite comes in small packages. You got it.
SPEAKER_02We better get three of them because if Isaac gets into it with them.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, you better get three. I mean we can have the tag team special.
SPEAKER_10Who'd be the fourth? Yeah. Well, it just depends on who it is. Can we can we pick our own crew guys? Because no, but I got some pretty big crew guys amongst the drivers.
SPEAKER_08We'll have one official. Yeah, the official. Yeah, we'll make the official. There's a couple four, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Right. Hey, yeah. Yeah, this is going good. So between that and the ass tattoo, Cody's getting all kinds of annihilation. Sorry, Michelle. He'll be fine. He's fine.
SPEAKER_08He's actually, he actually, I think his stamina is probably gonna be way better than mine and yours, Chuck. Oh, yeah. Because he's in the sauna all the time. Uh-huh. He's always on the dirt bike with the boys. Uh Chase Carter. That's what I'm saying. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we're screwed. We we're one-hit wonders.
SPEAKER_08The stam well, now, bud, Landon Elliott thought one time that he was gonna outrace me on a foot race when I got the picture of that. Remember the cardboard box things? Oh, yeah. Let's just say that I cramped the next day, and I mean, I had a bad hammy pulled, but I was not letting that 11-year-old or 10-year-old kid beat me. You forgot to stretch before I. Hey, Bud, you were up there that time. Weren't you up there with us when we did the boxcar race thing in the grandstands with all the kids? Oh no, that was the real Dustin Lynch. Who's up there that time? Yeah, Dustin did, yeah. Dustin did it.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I didn't know if you just mixed that up or if you got them confused. Yeah, no, I was dead serious.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, no, Dustin's a lot taller than you. That was not that was not that was not the it. So you you uh you you pick up the you you buy a Harrisco, you buy your first car from Jam and Jimmy Gustin. Jam and Jammer. You go down to Stuart, and I'm pretty sure you put that thing up on its lid. Like it was way later than that? Way later. Was this before I kicked your ass in the sport mod or after? This was before.
SPEAKER_10Was it? Yeah, I was in I was in a uh little bit of a lesser Harris, you should say. In the second one? When we when we did that. After I rolled Jimmy's, yeah.
SPEAKER_08Okay, I like totally thought for sure that I was gonna lose that race for sure, 100%.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, I thought, I mean, I did, I which I thought I was gonna, which it was probably in my head.
SPEAKER_08Well, we talked shit to each other the whole time. Oh, the whole time. All week. Because when I was truck, dump trucking and shit all the time. This was he was my call. He was my caller.
SPEAKER_10We'd just talk about the roads and the geese and uh well, and then and then I I look on Facebook and I see, oh, I'm supposed to race against race against him. I'm like, right, yeah, because this is totally not planned. Right. And uh that was that was really fun though.
SPEAKER_08That was fun whole little race thing that they did, like the race off stuff that they did at uh Stuart. You were you had to have been there for that, weren't you? Yeah, you were there, yeah. I was there. Yeah. Why do you sound so described? I you know what, guys, we need to apologize to Mike Van Gender right now.
SPEAKER_02Are we up?
SPEAKER_08Because we overlapped our event on his.
SPEAKER_02We did, didn't we?
SPEAKER_08I now, however, I did see quite a few cars that were going to that event.
SPEAKER_02Were there? Yeah. I mean, we won't talk about how many are parked outside then. Right. Right. We'll keep that down. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I tell you, it was a beautiful day for that. It really is. It really is. Fantastic nailed the day on it. Oh. Do you have your car ready? Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_08It's wrapped? Hey.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah. What do you mean it's we haven't even seen your wrapped car? Dude, we were eating pizza? What did we talk about? He almost came to Florida.
SPEAKER_10Then it wasn't wrapped, but I was gonna duct tape a 17 on sander.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, well, it's a good thing we didn't make it to the first night because the first night modified drivers were driving like assholes and it was twenty-eight and a half minutes. 13 Goshens later, and we ended up crowning that night. Who won the first night?
SPEAKER_02Mmm. Does anybody remember? Broxma.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, Broxman did. Ethan did.
SPEAKER_02That's right. Had to think.
SPEAKER_10Yeah. So I mean, I watched it. I watched the f the first half at Deep South. And it was it was wild. You mean at Northwest? Er the Deep South. Or it was the second. Yeah, Northwest, yeah. Yeah, Northwest.
SPEAKER_08Or actually, excuse me. Blackwater now. Yeah, Blackwater. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Yeah, but it was uh it's a little different, it's a little different deal down there. Hopefully you can make it down next year. I think uh you know it's a little different.
SPEAKER_10Well we and we had Stets watching, and I'm like Stats, you wanna go? I said that there's one day we could go to the beach. He's like, Yeah. So then ever ever since then, we were getting the car wrapped and everything, and we'd be kind of moving it out, cleaning chop, you know, for the race party. And he's like, Dad, we're going racing. Mommy coming, brother coming, grandpa, all we were all going. Yeah. We were all loading up, going racing. So what changed your mind? Lizzie? No, I just just kind of last minute. No, no, wised up.
SPEAKER_08Did you wise up? Nah. I mean, we know you write the fuel off of the trucking company, so we know that's just another write off to Uncle Shep. I gotta get accountant, you know. Yeah, I'm gonna need his number later. I got it for you, but you know that.
SPEAKER_02Well, uh, but next year, think about that. Come down to the street.
SPEAKER_10I I think we talked that uh that's something we would like to hit and and try to make it to.
SPEAKER_02It's pretty fun.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, rent a motorhome or something, pull a trailer down there.
SPEAKER_08You know, it really isn't that bad. I mean, everybody was like, Oh yeah, you guys are flying. I'm like, well, it's just as long as a flight as it was to drive home because uh we met Mike Smith at the four-way stop sign at uh right here in Boone when when we pulled into town and it was like, man.
SPEAKER_10It's only what, like 16 hours drive? Yeah, Isaac they did something like that. Yeah, they they drove straight through, I think.
SPEAKER_08Still a savage. That's a long drive. That's a long drive. Especially you know how long of a drive it is after a weekly night here.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, so uh we did that from coming back from in 2016. We went down to Ocala for the Maud Light Special and it was it was me, uh, a few buddies, and we drove straight through. We actually went to the Daytona 500 on Sunday because we had to drop my buddy's girlfriend off the airport. Went to the Daytona 500 on Sunday. I got smoked, started driving, got smoked. They said I had a bus in a parking lot. I had my window down. This lady's like, hey, you just hit this bus. I said, No, I didn't.
SPEAKER_02I think we found our mayhem moment.
SPEAKER_10Backed up, took off, got about 20 miles down the road. I said, Got one, I think you gotta drive, dude. Pulled over, took me a dirty nap for about eight hours.
SPEAKER_08Jeez, yeah. You left him eight hours then?
SPEAKER_10It probably wasn't eight hours. I mean that was probably eight hours. Because uh Spencer drove through Atlanta, and then I drove through Tennessee, foggy, going eighty up the mountain, eighty down the mountain. We made it home from Daytona 17 hours in six minutes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's hauling ass.
SPEAKER_10Wow. Damn. That's 90 through Atlanta is what my buddy was doing. That's a lot of things. I said, Well, you're driving. I'm not I'm just riding at this point.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I can't drive that fast anywhere I go. I like that too many extracurriculars going on.
SPEAKER_10I don't like I don't like the rest of that sightseeing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, that's that's I I tell everybody like when we traveled when I was when my dad was traveling around, it's like, yeah, I've been to like 29 states. Oh yeah, what'd you see? Well, not much really. Literally, that was it. You know what I mean? I mean that was what we did, but it was like I've still been there. You're not taking away, you're not taking my 29 away. Right. You know, like but I'm I'm with you, Corey. Like, if I'm going somewhere, I'm going where I'm going, I'm going to do what I'm doing. Down back. Right, but still, after a week-long event like that to drive home, just to fly home, it's like you almost need to take a vacation from vacation, you know, and that's that makes it tough, you know.
SPEAKER_10Everybody's like, Oh, I'm going on vacation. When I get back, I got so much stuff to do that I'm like, I didn't really go on vacation. Right. I still answer the phone and yeah. It's not a vacation. Right.
SPEAKER_02Well, and you're professional driver, so it shouldn't be that big a deal.
SPEAKER_10Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Driver down, driver back. Transportation specialist. But that beach day, the beach day or beach days in the middle, changed. Like it's very cool to have that. You know what? I think we've we've experienced We've had like a complete rain outright so where you get a break from it. And while it is and it isn't a break, it's still like the next day, you're almost recharged a little bit. Much needed. Yeah. So uh so down there it was something that I hadn't really experienced before, so you should come to it next year and try to get hooked. Then you'll meet Peyton, and then you're really gonna be hooked.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, I've talked to him just like once or twice, but yeah, he probably's got no idea who I am.
SPEAKER_06What so what are your obviously like with the kids in the trucking business? Are you sticking to Saturday Saturday nights and then and then maybe going, you know, here or there for a special or two or just kind of about like I always do.
SPEAKER_10Yeah. Uh Saturdays, we go to Motown about two or three times a year, and then Stuart two or three times. Um and then I I always say I'm gonna race after Supernationals. And then after the week of supernationals, I unload everything. And I'm like, man, I'm kinda tired. I don't know about this. And then you know, that's that's fall rush for me, and and so it's always busy and just trucking. I drive a lot. Yeah. I've I think I've I've figured up with driving the boon, doing the driving that I do. I'm close to about 70,000 miles a year. That's a lot. Driving.
SPEAKER_02That's a hell of a lot.
SPEAKER_08Now, do you have a bigger wheel in your race car? So it's like comparable to your dump truck wheel.
SPEAKER_10No, not like what they used to have.
SPEAKER_08Well, but you know what I'm saying? Like Bloomer used to use a bigger wheel on the bigger tracks. Yeah, I mean it's I mean it's a good one. You run one of the more mexi ones.
SPEAKER_10No, I I got a I got a nice one of those. I mean, I had the metal on, I'm like, man, this shit hurts after you know 20 laps. Choose gloves up. Yeah. Uh so I got a normal just MPI. It's probably the same as a steering wheel.
SPEAKER_08Now, is that the 15-inch one or is that the 16 or is it the 14?
SPEAKER_10Probably I think it's the 15.
SPEAKER_08Is it? Pretty sure it's 15. Okay, Lizzie, we're gonna need you to check on that.
SPEAKER_02We have brought up Lizzie a lot here. I know.
SPEAKER_08So we really see she's the hottest blonde in the chip.
SPEAKER_02But I mean never mind, but I'm just saying. Corey's not gonna argue with you. I'm not gonna argue. And and I know it.
SPEAKER_08She's just mad we're talking about her right now. And she don't even know it. And she does she does this awesome uh TM designs?
SPEAKER_10It's so she's got TM designs. She'll design t-shirts, hats, and then now it's 17 and co. So she gets on. You guys heard of whatnot?
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Oh yeah. I'm addicted to whatnot. Oh yeah, me too. What is whatnot?
SPEAKER_04Did you know? Oh, you don't know?
SPEAKER_06It's like uh yeah, it's hooked. It's an app that they do these online auctions, like video ones. And you slide over.
SPEAKER_10Like people will start at like a dollar. Yep, and just and it could be like I've seen my buddy got a whole Milwaukee set for 180 bucks. Drill, two batteries, and a whole Milwaukee socket set, 180 bucks. Guaranteed it works.
SPEAKER_02Guaranteed, dude. Plus, there's giveaways too. So Camden Camden got into it and he got a$750 clutter for free.
SPEAKER_10Enter the giveaway. They got golf, they got tools. I bought a lot of clubs, cards. Yeah, shoes, cards and stuff, cards. The c the baseball cards and stuff are coming back.
SPEAKER_06That's what I yeah, I mean it's coming back. I got some baseball cards and football cards off there. Yeah.
SPEAKER_10So we got some baseball cards because Lizzie's cousin actually got drafted by the Tampa Bay Race last year. Whoa. Oh. Okay. Okay. So the who? Uh the Tampa Bay. The Titans? No, the race. Oh, the rays. Baseball, baseball. Yeah, baseball. Stick. Really?
SPEAKER_08Baseball. Yeah. That's cool, dude.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it is cool.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_08So you married in, is what you're saying. I got lucky, yeah. Absolutely. Right. But Lizzie does. Lizzie actually does a lot of uh she hooks me up with a lot of apparel. Like a lot of the bobcast. Is that one or no? No, this is not one. This is one that Eric did for us. Um, but she's made several hats for me, um, several shirts.
SPEAKER_10She's been kind of disappointed that you haven't worn the hat that she made yet.
SPEAKER_08Well, I just, I mean, it's, you know, I mean, it's a really good one, okay? Yeah, it's good. I've worn it just not on the show yet. Yeah. Um it's such a true statement, that's the problem. Okay. Uh-huh. But uh, yeah, she does a great job with that. So if you're looking for any of that cool stuff, like she's done a ton of stuff for my race auction over the years uh and does an excellent, excellent job. She carries, I mean, she runs that stuff flawlessly, don't it? But I mean, she's always a freak and she's always like, Oh my god, I got so much stuff to do. I gotta go do this. I'm just like, chill out, you're good, you're good at it. You're you'll be fine. When I talk to her, because I always call last minute.
SPEAKER_05No.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Weird. Not always. Not always. He was prepared this year. I was, yeah. But that's because I knew she had just she's got them two kids down there and Corey. Three kids. So three. Three kids, yeah. I mean, Corey's not much taller than the boys.
SPEAKER_10So so well I love you, buddy. So we got a pretty good system. She goes and does does her thing. And then I'll like I'll get my stuff done during the day. And then it's like, alright, you know, she's gonna go get on or or finish this, and she does it at night. So after the kids shower, I just you know, watch kids. But she started that from nothing. You started that deal in the city.
SPEAKER_08From from nothing. It's become a really cool thing.
SPEAKER_10Doing our taxes, like, just for the three months and whatnot. I'm like, like, I'm sitting here like, man, yeah, I'm I'm gonna be the stay-at-home daddy here pretty quick. I'm staying at home. We got a new dispatcher here at Saraman Julia. Like, you're gonna do this all day, every day.
SPEAKER_02So when Lizzie comes to the window and I call her the sugar mama, is she gonna be shocked or is she gonna be pissed? Oh, I've told her.
SPEAKER_10I've told her numerous times. I I've said it, yeah. You're working, and I'm staying up. I know that's so bullshit.
SPEAKER_02Well, we all know who's in charge in the salary pit, though. Right. I think that's very evident. Yeah, Lizzie and Jess. It's they're in charge.
SPEAKER_08I was just gonna say it's got the Chiefs old lady.
SPEAKER_10And then you've got the driver's old lady. No. They are in charge. It's definitely Stets. Oh, yeah. Stets controls everybody. Because he's wandering. Nobody's paying attention to even what they're doing. They're looking after the kids. True. Very good place.
SPEAKER_06Stets is fully in charge. Right. You guys are trying to shoot.
SPEAKER_10I want a hot dog. Okay.
SPEAKER_09We'll go get your hot dogs.
SPEAKER_06Wanted to change this right front shock, but I'm guess we're going to get a hot dog.
SPEAKER_02Getting a hot dog, man. Does he like hamburgers? Because we're going to try those this year instead of beef.
SPEAKER_10Oh, that's all when we go out. That's all he wants. Hell yeah. Cheeseburger, though. Yeah. Oh, we'll get we'll get you covered. If you got cheese there, it'll be fine.
SPEAKER_02We got I just talked to Danelle last night. She's ordering the cheese. She's ordering the crispy. We got cheese coming. She's ordering the crispitos for the pits. You've seen the messages. I included you. I seen it.
SPEAKER_10I was so excited announcing crispitos. Yeah, there's. I remember those from school. I'm like, oh, right now.
SPEAKER_08That's what I'm saying. I was like totally pissed off when they talked about it.
SPEAKER_10And I didn't know we had fried Oreos over at the other side.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. The podcast has really opened up a lot of things that nobody knew about. Like, seriously. It's been this thing. And then now it's just like every time it's like more shit keeps coming out. It's kind of like the government.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna have to tell Teresa, yeah, we're gonna have to make a driver-only line for the fried Oreos. No shit. Seriously.
SPEAKER_08And the fried Oreos, I don't know. I always go over at Supernaturals because I thought that was when they only they had them. No, I mean it's just a weekly thing. Weekly. You know, whatever. Weekly.
SPEAKER_10Yeah. Yep. Yep. I'm just not walking that far.
SPEAKER_02It is a long time.
SPEAKER_10It is a long, yeah.
SPEAKER_02But you know what? You can cut right across the track. I was gonna say hit run over by a track.
SPEAKER_10I should get smart. During intermission, if I got to go to the grandstand side, I should just like just tuck off and then like go get me some pride over it.
SPEAKER_06Most of the time, meaning you just stand at the edge of the wall and talk. Yeah, he has a golf cart, bud.
SPEAKER_08Rod, Hank, and Perry's four-wheelers are not very far from your pit area. You could go and swipe one of them. They wouldn't even know it.
SPEAKER_02Because they're on the track. That's true.
SPEAKER_08I'm just saying.
SPEAKER_02That's a good point. Now you might want to get it returned before they get back. Right, yeah. Or something back in it.
SPEAKER_06Right, right. Which is why we need the driver-only line. That's right. Yeah. To get back in time.
SPEAKER_02Well, uh, hey, and Cody can maybe give you a new ride this year. Yeah. He's gonna have some new wheels. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Trying to get this deal done. Well, hey, now wait a minute. You got a tricked out golf cart or? Uh side by side, hopefully.
SPEAKER_08Hey. So if that happens, what's gonna happen to the red and white golf cart? Josh was getting that one. What?
SPEAKER_05You're gonna be in the in the booth. What do you need it for?
SPEAKER_02Not exactly. I mean, I I will be eventually, yes, but I got some running around to do. I got some GM duties to do.
SPEAKER_06He's got the fire extinguisher on that. I got fire extinguisher on my side, he's got fire.
SPEAKER_08Wait a minute, where's the dividing line? We haven't talked about that. Is that the concession stand? It's a moving moving target. Yeah, we have mothering. Hey, whoever's closer.
SPEAKER_02Sometimes we may have to come together and extinguish at the same time. We had to do that a couple times last year. We did.
SPEAKER_08I mean, I'm just saying that the red and white golf cart buddy. She's pretty good. That is like the pit patrol. Yeah, that's a staple.
SPEAKER_02Well, I tell you, there might be a little surprise on that because I think they're gonna get rewrapped even. All red to look like the face truck or re-wrap the OG? Might be a watermelon and wood chips and all kinds of stuff.
SPEAKER_05We'll tell Burke just to keep it similar.
SPEAKER_02Keep it similar, but we're gonna be able to do it.
SPEAKER_05I mean, boys, I'm just saying that isn't OG.
SPEAKER_08It is like that is like the old IMCA sticker on the side of it. It's cock.
SPEAKER_02We will talk to Burke and we'll make sure he keeps some elements.
SPEAKER_08I didn't know it was that big of a deal. Apparently it is. Well, hold on a minute. You guys want to include and disinclude on certain things? I'm getting I have written all of this shit down. I just want both of you to know that. Since the podcast started, 25 episodes worth of shit that I've written down that I'm like, oh, cool. They're like telling me like really important stuff and like really cool things, and then it's like, nope, you're still a dick. They don't like you. They're not telling you about the most important things, like changing the golf cart.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. How come Garrett? I honestly have.
SPEAKER_06I had no idea it was. I didn't know it was that big of a deal. I didn't know that that the golf cart rap was the we pay attention to the dumbest shit. That's good. And it's the it's the guy driving it.
SPEAKER_08Hard fries, soft fries. No crispitos, crispitos.
SPEAKER_02Fixed. Don't forget about the cheese curds.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, it's common. But we got a month. Did you know that there were soft curds in the in the grandstands and not hard ones?
SPEAKER_10No.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, those are coming to the pitary, too. You're welcome.
SPEAKER_10Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_08I gotta say though, I normally don't eat diet. I don't really eat either, but when your kids go, like sis will go down and get them little corn dogs and shit, or the onion petal stuff. And you know, you have one or two, you have a little sampler. Yeah. A little sampler, and then you gotta then you gotta seal it in with the marble. Seal it in, and that way you can get back out there and uh do hot laps and stuff. But I can't I can't race on a full belly either. No. I don't need it all.
SPEAKER_06So do you guys get that's a that's a question that I have because when I got look at this shit. Oh then walks the dirt document.
SPEAKER_07Look at this! We were just talking about taking his four-wheeler. That's so weird.
SPEAKER_02Almost like he sends it. Right. No shit. Oh shit.
SPEAKER_06Bobcat was trying to figure out when is a good time to sneak over and grab the orange four-wheeler while you're on the track so he can go get some fried Oreos. Yeah, because you know. Right. See, anytime.
SPEAKER_10See? You got more than one. I'm sneaking over, and if I get caught, I'm gonna blame it on Jonathan. I just know where they all park the shit. That's right.
SPEAKER_08Got signed up for them greater lessons. Tell her about the shed. No, they're by their tractors, bud. Oh, yeah. Oh, I'd like to. They park by their tractors, huh?
unknownThat greater deal self-taught.
SPEAKER_08I I know. That's right. I know. I'm gonna come get in it. I just gotta make sure you're in a good mood when I turn the key on.
SPEAKER_02I do want to see you and Rod side by side in the greater space. I would love to see that.
SPEAKER_08I always give him the puppy dog look when he pulls up in the in the with the spring tooth on. Like like maybe he'll open the door up and let me in. He actually just opens the door up and he just kind of like looks down. I'm like, oh no, and I'm just standing here waiting for you to tell me to go in.
SPEAKER_02I'm old, uh Rod, which one are you the 4430, 4630? What do you drive?
unknown4430.
SPEAKER_024430. So when I was a little kid, boy, that little seat, the arm, it'll come down and you just plop right in beside him.
unknownThe other side down, slide over.
SPEAKER_02You bet. That's right.
SPEAKER_08And I could really hear the ashtunes. You can feel them. Oh shit. Yeah. Oh, but I learned about that secret channel all last week, and I tell you, I can't wait until the summer.
SPEAKER_06Oh shit. Well, should we uh break number two?
SPEAKER_02Should we go to the last break and then uh come back with our business either some big things to cover. Big things. But before we leave, Corey, I'd want to ask you in all your racing career, what's your biggest, most like memorable race that you can remember? Something you can remember, a win.
SPEAKER_08What it can or cannot include Lizzie.
SPEAKER_02I think it could give you that. Well that's a win and it's a good thing.
SPEAKER_08It can include her or not include her.
SPEAKER_05I think it should. Well, it could be.
SPEAKER_08I mean we used like w when uh Lizzie used to before Lizzie and Cory were married and stuff and they were a thing, like we Lizzie used to go racing all the time. Okay. Well, we would always have a lot of success when Lizzie wasn't around.
SPEAKER_10Uh oh. Oh. You know? But yeah. It was like So it's her then. Oh is it her? It could be.
SPEAKER_08Are you filling me in here? I tried telling you. Bud, you gotta go home. Hey.
SPEAKER_06Oh, for sure.
SPEAKER_10Um, so I I kind of got two. The the first one was Maud Light, down at O'Cala.
SPEAKER_05You won?
SPEAKER_10No, I was just close. Well, kind of close. But we started 18th and ended up fourth. Saturday night for all the marbles. Um one more caution, and I don't know if I'd have caught Ross White or Josh May, but uh that was uh a memorable one, just because I mean it I don't know if you guys have been to O'Cala, but the shape of that track is fantastic.
SPEAKER_02The egg?
SPEAKER_10Uh it's kind of like a D.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_10So it's like the bottom of the D, it's all swooping. So you carry so much momentum from four back to three, that it's and then it just like literally like a D. Like it just turns back. Fantastic. And then the second one was probably my rookie air in mod. Uh for three weekends, I ran second to Mike Van Gedron. Finally, I got him. Crossed him up, did the duck under, crowded him going into one and two.
SPEAKER_08Dirty bastard.
SPEAKER_10And I had it. You got your win. Your first win. My first win on the mod, my rookie year.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_10Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Wow, that's awesome.
SPEAKER_10And then it was only about two weeks after that that I rolled, and that was it. We were we were sitting good. We were second behind Clint Llewellyn and rookie national points. And I believe I was second in track points at boom. Second or third. Um then I rolled and didn't get a car for the supernationals, and that was all she wrote for my rookie years. But you gotta win. Gotta win though. Yeah, and then I I made every uh dirt tour, because it was a Hawkeye dirt tour back then. Oh yeah. Made every one that I went to, and then I didn't make Knoxville. But since I was up there in the points, I got a provisional to to get in. And I'm like, man, you know, I didn't make it, you know. Shit, I was down at the trailer, cracked a beer, I'm like, I'm gonna go check, you know, dodging through the trailers. And then I hear him at the liner board. Uh they're like, oh, we got the 17 and and and somebody else. And I'm like, oh shit. Take my beer. I took one sip out of it, toss it underneath the truck, went back in, jumped in my driver's suit, went back out, started 24th and ended up 14th there, too. So those are those are good moments. Those are some of my memorable ones. Um I would say. Awesome. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well, it's fun, it's fun watching you race at Boone. Um you're always you're always a charger.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, but he has the worst luck. He has ever terrible luck.
SPEAKER_06I gotta talk real quick.
SPEAKER_10I feel like it's me the whole time.
SPEAKER_06I don't know if it's Locke, but I gotta talk about so Corey calls me. Uh he'd gotten wrecked like after the checkers. After the race.
SPEAKER_10This was this was this year. Yeah. After the race, he called me.
SPEAKER_06And he never bitches about anything. Like, we have a good time, and like if Jonathan's usually chewing my ass or whatever, I can always go to Corey's and like make me feel better. Little bud, come over here, Cody.
SPEAKER_09I got your funnel cake.
SPEAKER_06So he did, so he calls me, he's like, hey, you know, I don't complain about much, but he's like, I got fucking just destroyed after the race was over on the backstretch. And I don't know what we can even do about it.
SPEAKER_10So it was uh I don't know, I think it was it was Jeremy.
SPEAKER_06Jeremy and somebody else would run into each other.
SPEAKER_10Um gosh dang it. I I know it off. Nick Roberts? No, this this was this year. This year, guy.
SPEAKER_05Robert Avery? No. I was it was Jeremy. Yeah, he told me.
SPEAKER_10So we get we get done, right? You know? I'm coming around the outside. I see these two, duck bobbin and weaving, going into you know, going to take the scale. Right. All of a sudden, one of them takes a hard ride. And uh I don't even know what happened. I tried to squeeze between the wall and them. Yeah. Ran right over Melissa's bumper. You did? Flattened my left rear tire. Oh boy, look at that rear. Bent Ram. I'm sitting there like, I'm sitting there like, give me that thing. Look at your violin.
SPEAKER_07Sounds like to me your tear rod was dirty and you couldn't see shit.
SPEAKER_09It wasn't dirty. Was it?
SPEAKER_08I don't think these two could see shit. That's what I'm thinking. Okay. Well, Fitz told me that. Oh, did he? Right. Right. Yeah. I talked to him after that because uh him and Jeremy had some. I mean, Jeremy had a pretty good talk with Roth one time down in the infield. Yeah. And uh so I when that whole deal happened, Fitz told me that if you ever want to come down, he's black belt, and he'll put his left foot on your right ear real quick. I'm just telling you. And I said to him, I'm like, now, Bud, you know you're a lot taller than him, and he will build Goldberg screw in a second. Okay, like, don't do that. Yeah, right. So what did it just flatten your tire and bend a rim?
SPEAKER_10Well, and and possibly bend a fucking rear end, too.
SPEAKER_08You changed the tube on it, didn't you? Because you didn't know. I did.
SPEAKER_10Absolutely.
SPEAKER_08There's 300. Hey.
SPEAKER_10I mean, I was sitting here like, man, so I just won like you know, 200, 250 bucks. I'm down five at this point.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, what did Lizzie say when he got back to the pit? What'd Gottman say when he got back and you had the because I know I'm sure it got the quarter panel?
SPEAKER_10He don't get all worked up. It didn't, it just it just got the rent. I was worked up. I'm like, man, you know, I I mean we were fucking it was like for like eighth place.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I know. I know the feeling on that. I've been rolled when we're running ninth.
SPEAKER_10Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_10I'm like, you guys are arguing back here. You didn't even win. Okay, it'd be different if you were going for the lead. You know, we're back here at sixth, seventh, and I'm running eighth. This is what we're arguing about.
SPEAKER_08I mean racing's racing. It's the modified guys. We've been talking. About it all year. They drive like assholes. Apparently, it started last year. Seriously. You know what though? Fitz Fitzzy uh transplant from California, right? Trevor's I never had any troubles racing with him or any altercations or anything. Kid just races hard, and I swear there's so many times that he's just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
SPEAKER_10He doesn't have very good luck either. He doesn't either, man.
SPEAKER_08I mean, but you know what? I mean, maybe, maybe he is the problem. He had problems with McBurney, Jeremy Mills, now the Saurman.
SPEAKER_02Turn three and four. It's not really a problem. He thought it was the high banks. It was not. It was right off then.
SPEAKER_08Yes, he did. Yes, he did.
SPEAKER_02Uh-huh. But yeah. Maybe it's him. It could be. Could be.
SPEAKER_10Out of towners. Out of towners.
SPEAKER_02I didn't. You're an out-of-towner. I bet we'll find out. Not really. Not true. We'll find out here in about four weeks. Because it's go time. So okay. It's go time.
SPEAKER_08So here's the next thing. So if you get a chance to put a quarter panel on the twenty on the twenty-eight or the ten car, are you going to do it? Or did you send it?
SPEAKER_10It's all for the marbles.
SPEAKER_08Did you send them a nice Christmas card?
SPEAKER_10I mean, it's for the marbles. I still I've been so close. Not this year. Jeremy spanked our ass. But I've been so close that track championship. I want one before I'm done. I know other people have gotten it, but I'm getting one. Hell yeah. And I'm going to do whatever I got to do to get there.
SPEAKER_08Do you want me to call Andy and tell him to quit screwing you on the shocks and get you a good set?
SPEAKER_10No, you just you just call him, tell him to get them body panels ready because somebody's getting the door. Is that what it is? That's what's going to happen. I like it. Somebody's getting the door.
SPEAKER_08I like it.
SPEAKER_10We got a little bark out of the old dog over here. You better tell Hank get more bungee cords.
SPEAKER_08No, bud, we're we we've we've eliminated that. Hank gets no more fucking bungee cords, no more pit stops on the front stretch.
SPEAKER_02Damn. Come on. But I mean, sometime you might need one.
SPEAKER_08I don't ever get my shit's usually getting towed off or flipped over or just pushed back into the infield. True. As you've seen on the race video, you know, I'm down there flawing my hands around all you got.
SPEAKER_02Well we're gonna hey, we're gonna stop that because we're gonna make sure Cody's got a microphone at all times. So now it won't happen.
SPEAKER_08Dude, I think that's a great thing. But well, with this new unit, you should be able to be like Johnny on the spot.
SPEAKER_06That's right right there. Yep. Yep. Right. Yep. Well, let's hey, let's go to a break real quick, and then we'll talk about a couple new things we got going on. Yes, sir. So when we come back from the break, we will yeah, we'll get to that. You've been watching Watermelons and Woodchips, we'll be right back.

Welcome back, RaceFans, Watermelons and Woodchips presented by Central Iowa Diesel Performance, and we're going to get into a few things here at the end of the at the end of the show, starting with the Elmquist towing question of the week, which was what's your favorite activity to go or go to spot while at a destination race? And you know it's some of the people that that listed things on here, you a lot of it's stuff that's you know supernationals related, obviously. But a lot of them stay on the grounds, but some guys do venture out to the golf course or whatever else. And some people said they go down to Prairie Meadows, the casino, or um you know, and I don't know, like when you guys go somewhere, Corey, like do you guys take time to go somewhere else or are you strictly at the racetrack?
SPEAKER_10Um depends, I guess. But we take we take some time and and like uh we were down at Ocala, we went to a pool hall. Served beer, food, pizzas, kinda like the Adobe here, and uh just shot pool, drank beer, and ate pizza. Just relax.
SPEAKER_08What what kind of caught my eye on here was you didn't see um like the Adobe Lounge or Toby K's hideaway or like they're race bars. Like that kind of that kind of but we also I don't know what everybody's deal was today, if they were just being lazy or what, but last week we blow the internet off with 170 comments, which however I want to thank everybody for unblocking me so I could see all those. Yep. Uh and then this week we've got like 27.
SPEAKER_0227? I saw 50.
SPEAKER_08Is that how many there was? No, I'm just messing with the same thing.
SPEAKER_02God damn. If they re-blocked you, which I'm fine with.
SPEAKER_06I'm in Johnny Care. Johnny Torres says he goes to the local strip club.
SPEAKER_08Uh-huh. Johnny would. Hey, but if there was one here during national, well, now wait a minute. Isn't there usually one? Um, well, I think it's a mobile. Uh yeah. Ran by a fellow racer that a lot of people like. Yep.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_08They might not like racing with him, but they for sure like the trap.
SPEAKER_06Like when we were, you know, when we we would travel, go to do the Arizona tour and stuff like that, you'd always find a a spot to go to, you know. Um it always seemed like you kind of you could post up and make something your home almost. Like, especially with those deals that when they used to do that Arizona tour, it was like six weeks or something like that. So we'd leave the truck and trailer down there and fly back and forth. And we had the same same spot we went to every every time. And it was kind of nice just to you kind of had a routine when you got down there, you know, and then in the morning go to the racetrack, get your stuff ready.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, we used to do that like when we travel out to be actress, we always hit this one truck up because it had all the cool shit in it. You know? Like we had so many of those but we did the same thing. Yeah, I mean I I'm really surprised that there wasn't, you know, that many answers, especially during Supernationals. You know, like I get it, but you know, like even when we go, like when we go to Marshtown, like sometimes we'll leave early just to go to Taylor's and get a made right. Because they have the best frickin' made rights. That's the original, is it not? Yeah, that's the original. I mean you go in there and get a chocolate shake and um two cheese rights, you know, ketchup, mustard, or not ketchup, excuse me. Sorry to all the made right people. Whoa. That's a mistake. You have to ask for ketchup because it's not supposed to go on your made right. Uh-huh. Right?
SPEAKER_02Don't they have packets?
SPEAKER_08They have packets and they have the glass bottle. Uh but yeah, like any anything that we do, like uh whether it be we're going snowmobileing or somewhere that we always have somewhere that we're like, oh man, we should go check that out, or that we've got to go back to that dive bar because they had this. Sure. So it just kind of caught me off guard, all you lazy asses out there on Monday afternoon, not really commenting on a lot of this. Um But there were some good answers on here. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06I know I know quite a few people that'll go, like I said, go to the golf course. Because we have we're like dead smack in the middle between Cedar Point and Honey Creek.
SPEAKER_08Which is awesome.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. And so you're basically a mile to the north and a mile to the south. You got two golf courses. So it we just we you better go in the morning because we start racing at one o'clock.
SPEAKER_02So yeah. And then, you know, there's a simulator uptown. Yep.
SPEAKER_06Um that's what we gotta we gotta get uh we were just talking that Jonathan's accountant uh owns the golf simulator in town, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Let's get him while we're friendly and not before something bad happens.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, tax time's coming. Right. So yeah, that'll be a cool spot, I think, once Supernational sits um to have people just go in and play a couple rounds of golf on the simulator or whatever, just to you're here for a week, so you gotta find something to take away from the racetracks.
SPEAKER_10And it's a long week.
SPEAKER_06It is.
SPEAKER_10It is I even go home and I think it's a long week. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Right. You go home every night?
SPEAKER_10Yeah, well, so uh I know you're supposed to hotlap Monday and Tuesday to keep your pit stall. I go home.
SPEAKER_08You wait till I tell people.
SPEAKER_10I stay home and then I come up Wednesday.
SPEAKER_02Uh be careful, bud.
SPEAKER_10She's a fellow. I know it.
SPEAKER_08We need you to bleep that out.
SPEAKER_10I hang out Monday and watch, and then and then Tuesday I go to work, and then game time Wednesday.
SPEAKER_08Maybe that's why you're about two tenth off that first night. Not getting them hot lap sessions in, prepping for that early farm session.
SPEAKER_10I've got a lot of hot lap sessions.
SPEAKER_08It's not the same. We've talked about giving up my covenant. I know it. I know it. Tell everybody that we don't have an advantage. You're over here telling them we got an advantage.
SPEAKER_10There's no advantage.
SPEAKER_02Hey. So I did Peyton, the beachside karaoke. We were down there for that. That was a great time. That was good. A lot of people embarrassed themselves. Had a good time. Um, I saw Isaac Malicote's Pit Spot. I don't know. That I think that might have been a relative to put that in there. Ramona. Um but uh I also saw Frank the Tank through an payout window. So as somebody who's on the back side of things, we love that. Come get your pay. I don't know how many people don't get their pay. I don't understand it. I never left a racetrack without getting my pay. I know sometimes that you've walked away and Jennifer has been kind and brought to you, brought you. Oh, 100%.
SPEAKER_08I rely on Jen. No, I don't rely on Jennifer. She just always is like strutting around. I'm always like, What are you doing, Skinny? Oh, I'm gonna go get your pay. I'm like, God, I love you. Thank you so much. Usually costs me a shirt or whatever, but that's all right. I, you know, I'm gonna go.
SPEAKER_02Hey, she put them in her senior picture. I've seen that. She did? She did. God, I haven't said it. You were front and center, bud. Wow.
SPEAKER_08That I'm blushing.
SPEAKER_02You can't tell, by the way. Yeah. She did. Um, but we will so we're breaking enough news tonight, but we will have some breaking news on a coming podcast about that payout window. So just in case anybody's wondering. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Another thing they haven't told me about, folks. No, I got it.
SPEAKER_10I got it. You're gonna go up, scan your My Race pass card.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_02Well, you're not even close. But hey, thanks for playing.
SPEAKER_09That's why I don't go to the casino like some of these people do. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Oh, that's good. Well, okay, so then we'll move on to Moffat's Ford Mayhem. Yes. Haven't really had anything locally, but the other night we were when we were watching, was it Golden Isles? Yeah, Golden Isles. Golden Niles and Trey Mills.
SPEAKER_02Unbelievable race.
SPEAKER_06That was just a wild, like super late model race. And that that kid was just putting it on him, and there was caution after caution after caution. Yeah. And then once they went back green, him and O'Neill were sliding for the lead, and then he finally kind of got out in front of him in clean air and took off. And you know, and uh oh boy, just he clipped the wall and holy shit.
SPEAKER_08Flipped her up on top of the wall. They left it there because they couldn't get to it to finish the race. What I took from all that is I'm like, so my dad and I bet 20 bucks every race, right? And so we we picked uh Tyler Herb and uh actually, excuse me, Shirley and uh the 13th place finisher that night. I couldn't tell you that they were two good guys anyway, but to watch Hudson, you knew he knows Trey Mills is a young kid into the sport. Hudson's been around a while, which he's still a young kid. But to watch Hudson go in there and be like, hey bud, I'm gonna I'm gonna slide you. I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna take this from you. The kid rebuttals, comes back, now he's like oxygen off to the brain immediately after the 71, passes him in turn one and two. He's going as fast as he can to the cushion in three and four to throw the slider back on. Sorry, but I just spit on you. Back to the to throw the slider back on him. And then they kind of touch a little bit, you know, and you can see Hudson just patiently, you know, like, okay, I'm gonna give him room, I'm gonna let him go back up. I've already got him flustered, is what I'm thinking, as a driver watching it. And then to see the emotion out of Trey Mills and how hard that camp has worked to get where they're at right now, to watch him win that race, like I mean you know, when you had Ricky Thornton and some of these other guys start behind him, and Trey Mills will start on the outside front row. I mean, that's not my twenty dollar pick. No. Because he's never, you know, I mean he's won one race. You know, like but watching him come up and then to watch him hit that wall, he gets out of the car, and my dad and I and we're all at the shop watching it, and I'm like, man, he's crying. You know, like he is upset. He had the car to win the race, you know, like arguably the best race of the year. Holy shit, Gold Niles put on such a fantastic four-day event. Other than JD dominating the first three nights. Um but I think that comes with his preparation and staying home from four to speed weeks all week. He stayed at home, he was hanging out with Rachel all week and the kids, taking care of his cows, the big horned ones, and focused on his race car, and he came out and he made a statement. And what he did passing Scott Bloomquist as the all-time winningest driver in LucasOil late model series was wow. That's pretty cool. But then it also was like, God damn, JD's getting old, you know, like well, yeah.
SPEAKER_02How about the crotch shop on top of the car? That was pretty cool. Yeah, that was cool.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, and and I like the Scott naysayers are like, oh yeah, that was great, like a tribute. But then there's some people that are like, Well, Scott did that. Like, was it a jab at Scott? Well, I don't think it was. No, I think it was a tribute. I think it was a tribute deal, like, hey, we know you were the goat. Yeah. I'm not saying that I'm the goat, but I'm I'm there with you. I've been doing this a long time too. And to see JD get that, very, very cool, very, very humbling for that whole team. I mean, they spend a ton of money, just like all them other uh drivers do. But Trey Mills, man, I I mean, even they had some weird shit happen that night in turn one and two. Blair Nordorf's right front tire comes off the car second lap. Yes.
SPEAKER_02Bounces over into the pit area. And didn't hit a vehicle, and I never did figure out how that happened.
SPEAKER_08I they show the video and you can see it come off. I bet whoever put that on got their ass ripped because it jumped. I mean, he hit the wall. I mean, he never even turned.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. He hit the wall hard. Yeah, he did hit the wall.
SPEAKER_08But same deal. Cody Overton the night before filling in for Tyler Bruning. Yep. Fear of the Beard. Damon Dallin Murdy Damon. Dallin Murdy. Man, that kid is. I I just I just feel like he's just close. He's he's set a quick time already. He uh, I will say it's been, you know, to see Dallin have the success. And this isn't a jab at Dallin. Don, uh don't be a mean ass and take this the wrong way. But to see him struggle is good. That's what he needed, in my opinion. To to not he was always really humble, but to have the success, I I think it's keeping him really motivated. It's gonna build him. It's gonna build it's building character for him right now. But it's also very challenging to him, I think. And I think that that's that's what keeps me racing. I mean, I don't know about you, Cor, but going and and being at different racetracks, different elements, different tires, different everything. That's what keeps me. I mean, I guess you only race boom. Yeah, but it's still it's different.
SPEAKER_10Well, same thing, and and I could refer to the trucking industry. It's a challenge every day. Right. You're going against this guy wants to take your money. He wants to take the money off your plate. I mean, it's all everything's the same. It's gotta work hard for it.
SPEAKER_08That could change hard. That could change a little bit, though. I mean, I'm sure you've been listening to the podcast changing up the running order.
SPEAKER_10Yeah. You're gonna be ready. Hey, are you? I got my opinion. What is it? Mods first, so I can drink more beer after.
SPEAKER_08I was just gonna say, what are you gonna do that a fresh farm, bud?
SPEAKER_10I'm used to it.
SPEAKER_08Go like hell.
SPEAKER_10I come from he's used from the one finger.
SPEAKER_08That's back when Corey used to dope tires and he was really fast, so he's really hoping that we bring back muddy track, get them soft tires on that 17 so we can pick up that champion. I'm sorry, bud.
SPEAKER_02Hey, when Corey comes by on when they're running first and that window finger comes up, no, I can't wait. I'm gonna that's hilarious. Yep. But you like that, you like that rotation deal? Uh changing the order? Yeah. Good. I'm all for it. Good. Everybody needs a little think positive because it's coming.
SPEAKER_10Right. Yeah. I mean, you know, I I've been stuck with I mean, mods have been stuck third in the lineup now for I mean how many years? Long time. Long time? Long time. You know, I would I would take first, I'd take second, I'd take third. I don't know about maybe dead last. But I suppose if it happens.
SPEAKER_02But it also, I mean, look at it this way, I've told a couple people this. This can help you build your notebook for supernationals. Because sometimes you don't know what track you're gonna get. You know what I mean? Yes, you're more than likely if you can get in a qualifier, you're gonna have a pretty fresh track.
SPEAKER_09Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But if we're up against weather, we may have to go. You don't know what you're gonna get. You know, we that's the one thing we just you can never tell exactly what's gonna happen. But if the weather's looking good, we're all good. But sometimes it changes.
SPEAKER_08Are you up for the change? Oh, I love it. I think it's a great idea just because it creates a controversy. People are so used to doing one certain thing. And maybe it'll give the track guys uh, you know, just a different perspective of what what what does it do when we run hobby stocks first, or what does it do when we run modified, or you know what I'm saying? Like I think it'll give them guys a uh a another just another way they can maybe chew that track up or give us a different surface or their notebook. Or that's what I'm saying. I mean it could be it could be one many any of those things, really. And I think it's good because I mean the hobby stocks are always, in my opinion, I think the modified should be last every night. Just my opinion. They have the most suspension, they are the ground pounders.
SPEAKER_10So we're not the class too tough to tame, though.
SPEAKER_08That's right. Well, we're still not the class too tough to tame. We're a stock car.
SPEAKER_10Right.
SPEAKER_08Not a there's nothing stock about a stock car. I know there isn't, but there's still not as much modified shit as there is on a modified.
SPEAKER_02You know what, Cody, we could get a guy from every class in the stable, and it would be argument. It wouldn't be a good thing.
SPEAKER_04For sure, for sure.
SPEAKER_02Plus rod sitting out at the end. It could be good. It could be a lot of um But no, uh appreciate all the answers for the question, too. Yeah, that's it's cool, you know. Obviously, keep in keep interacting, as Jonathan said, maybe I interact a little bit more on a Monday if you aren't so lazy.
SPEAKER_08Well, I just well I think it too, it's a question selection, right? Like some people, boy, they're really piped up to talk about that rule change come home. Well, sit on it and spin. Get off when you get to the elbow because your ride's over. You know, like, but you know what I'm saying, boys. Like, uh, you know, we love even if it was negative comments, like you know, all's good.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, all's good.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. So we got Elmquest towing question of the week, got through Moffat's mayhem with the Trey Mells thing, and uh a couple other pieces of information, I guess, that are new. So I've been working on a deal with Barn Town Brewery out of Des Moines, and we are going to have Boone Speedway action track ale coming to Boone Speedway, which is our own. Branded uh beer at at the Boone Speedway. So tall boys, yep, sixteen ouncers. Uh they sent us the the proof for the labels today, and it sounds like we're gonna have to get twenty some cases in like the in April. Like a first run. Yep, in the first run, and then we'll go from there, get another um sixty cases, I think, in May, and then we'll see where we land on that. But yeah, I'm this has been something that I've been super excited about, you know, just um we tried to put something together with a local brewery several years ago um and almost had the deal done. We actually we did have the deal done, but then that's when COVID hit, and it kind of just put the kibosh to everything, and then um so yeah, we reached out to Barntown and they're like, Yeah, we can we can make this deal work, I think. So um so yeah, Boon Speedway's action track ale coming to the Boon Speedway in the near future.
SPEAKER_02We'll have G throw that can, or he probably already has thrown it up on the screen. But um I can tell you, you know, Cody and I we threw some stuff into Chat GPT just to see what that name would look like on a can. And oh man, I got all excited about it before we we even knew what it was gonna look like. And now the way Barntown they have uh, you know, a guy that hand draws all these things and they have an artist and they put a lot of red into it, Boon Speedway Red and Chest Flash.
SPEAKER_08Guys, now since this is gonna be a new thing, now we're gonna have these beers in the VIP towers, right?
SPEAKER_02I believe so.
SPEAKER_08For like free beer.
SPEAKER_02Well, it won't be free if they're paying for the VIP. Well, now wait. Wait a minute.
SPEAKER_08Wait a minute. What? Isn't that like you guys give the winners the booth when it's not rented out, right?
SPEAKER_06So it's like our like Well, we've actually No, don't be backing down now because we've got that thing pretty much full from May on. So Oh, so one more thing the drivers lost.
SPEAKER_02Well, but we've got we've got more sponsors and more people coming in.
SPEAKER_10Have you won a couple times and not been able to get the booth?
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_10Me too. Yep.
SPEAKER_06Actually, I'm the ones that pays for it, though.
SPEAKER_10So we're not doing the time. It's been what two years.
SPEAKER_06But no, hey, I'm I'm like uh extremely excited about the the beer thing. I think it'll be cool.
SPEAKER_08Just the additional busting you guys up about it. Oh yeah, no, I if I win and the booths open, I mean I'm going and taking a six-pack. Plus, that's where the nachos come in.
SPEAKER_02The prairie dogger. We've been there before.
SPEAKER_10And this is exactly why mod should race first so I can get more boon speedway gold nail.
SPEAKER_08Hey, bud. You could you could potentially race a third of your races this year first.
SPEAKER_10I don't know if you guys know this, but between Gottman and Freeman, they'll down you 36 beer. Nothing flat. Oh man. They're both double. When I go as soon as I leave Pitstall, go to staging. Both of them's four fisting over here. Your boots even.
SPEAKER_02What happens if you get a flat? They don't come to me.
SPEAKER_08They see him with a flat turn in the fucking hands are full of boys.
SPEAKER_06That's super exciting for the boon speedway. Yeah, I think it'll be really cool. Yeah, I'm excited.
SPEAKER_02And then uh they want to get a get on Barntown and tell them they better get to filling up the cans if these boys are gonna be drinking them out.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, right. Yeah, I'm I'm excited to see what happens. I'm sure we're gonna blow through the that first run.
SPEAKER_02And so Imagine we'll have a few people who just want to put them on the shelf. I mean, they they are pretty cool looking. Yeah, they're very cool.
SPEAKER_06Um so that was one piece, and the next one is something that I've been working on also. Um, and Josh and I have been talking about this for three months probably, on trying to figure out how to make this work and uh spent some time kind of putting it all together. It's the Adobe Lounge Top Shelf Power Rankings. So anybody that follows, you know, college sports or wrestling, whatever, yeah, wrestling rankings, NCAA football, like anything, you know, those teams are ranked um based off of how their performances and strength of schedule and all that stuff. So we're gonna we're um we're gonna do that this year and have some have some power rankings for race car drivers every week.
SPEAKER_07Which I think is badass.
SPEAKER_10I mean that's badass, but it might go to your head sometimes. Well, we're kind of hoping that because if you check the end and you go, man, I'm the number one right now. I mean Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But then the pressure's on, you gotta hold on to it because confidence is key. Now this is proprietary. I I don't want to give up too much to it, but Cody put a lot of work into this, and it's a it's a recency-based power rankings, so it's gonna basically the three weeks leading up, you know, behind where you're at in that time is gonna be your most important. It takes the whole season into account. But the older the days, it drops the weights down. Um so so like he threw in, and we have a picture on the back of this. We just this was a very preliminary thing. I just threw into Chat GPT and said, show me this. But Cody took the last three weeks of last year, plugged it in, and this is what it spit out. And I see Corey Sauerman on here. He's fifth in the modified. I see Jonathan Lowe first in the stock cars.
SPEAKER_08You see, hey, I'm just gonna say you see Matt Avila too. Those two cars one shop top guns.
SPEAKER_02Both of them top classes.
SPEAKER_06Well, so I have the actual point system here that I sent to Josh. We were working on it today. Um, but it was really cool to see how this kind of shook out, and the the overall was Garrett Barber. So that was very cool. So, like Garrett Barber is leading the overall, he's ranked number one out of everybody based off the last three weeks of the season. So when we use this formula, it will take into consideration every week. Obviously, the recent most recent weeks are weighted more. Um, because you could be a guy that's you know had four great weeks and you've been been consistent after that and finished races, but you got another guy that's popped in the last four weeks and finished in the top four every night. Well, he's gonna jump to the top of the rankings versus the guy that's leading points. So it may not, you know, it's not necessarily the guy that's leading points that's gonna be right the power ranking leader. So um and it was cool because like Matt Avala's points based off the last three weeks, he was like a hundred and thirty point eight nine points. Well then Dusty Massolini was like a hundred and thirty point like four. So they were like half a point apart from first and second, and then but then you look at like Barber or Jeremy Mills, they were like thirty points ahead of the next guy. Just because they're three those la just like I said, this is just based off the last three weeks to show how it works. But I think once we get rolling in the season, it's gonna be something that's really really cool.
SPEAKER_02I think it'll be neat to follow, and I I mean I do want to point out too, you got two track champions that ended up at the top of the heap here over the last three weeks. And then the other three classes, I mean, your track title is they're there, but it was kind of mixed in, so it kind of shows kind of what everybody's season was looking like. I'm really excited to get it, to get the whole run going and kind of take a look at what it looks like.
SPEAKER_06Because I think once you hit like week five, six, seven, eight, like that's when it's gonna start. You know, the the weight of the last few weeks is gonna shine through more, you know. And I think I don't know, I just think it's gonna be cool and it's gonna be something that we can add to the things we can do with the drivers too.
SPEAKER_02For sure. And I you know, we really want to thank John and Steph for for coming on board with this and hopefully we can make it look good for them. Like I was I was just excited what it spit out at me, and we haven't even fine-tuned it, so I'm looking forward to that. So and hopefully you boys will stay on the list.
SPEAKER_08I'm not racing boon all year. Because you want to stay, you want to stay. Yeah. I'm just gonna I think I might just race three nights. Three nights. You better have three good nights. That's what I'm saying. I was fast at Supernationals, yeah. So I haven't touched the cart while I was so fast that I Randy uh brands is still going to the chiropractor from me ass packing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_08Uh so yeah, I'm uh yeah, I'm out. I mean, I I know you guys have worked really hard on this, but I'm working really hard on my character this year.
SPEAKER_02Well, uh that's fine. Just get that thing together so we can have the ass to tattoo contest. That's the important part.
SPEAKER_04Don't worry, I'll be ready. We may have a power rankings for that a little bit. Right.
SPEAKER_06No, that that was the end of yeah, that's basically what we've been we've been kind of sitting on this stuff trying to fine-tune it. Finally got the go-ahead from Barntown, said, Yep, you guys go ahead, push it out. Um, and then we got met with John the other night and said, Hey, we have this idea we've been working on, and he said, Yeah, let's do it for the power rankings. So it's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_10I mean, this is gonna be cool, just because you can you know you can tell like leading up to supernationals, you're like, Man, this guy, he's he's came out of nowhere here. He's fast. Yep. Uh you can watch the other classes and and kind of see the same thing. So this is it's just on paper now. It's gonna be in your head. Right.
SPEAKER_08It's it's I I think uh the the naming of it and everything, the top I mean it's just it's just something that not w any other racetrack is doing. And that's just what they do here at Boom Speedway, folks. Is that's what separates Boom Speedway from other events. It doesn't mean that they're better. It's just who else is doing this? You gotta evolve. Explain to me. Explain it, you know, or or reach out. Who else is doing this kind of shit? Well, a lot of people will after this because you know they're also gonna be reaching out to Cody for the formula, or I already told him, put that bitch in the safe.
SPEAKER_02Right, right.
SPEAKER_08Right. So I think it's a very cool thing. I think it's gonna uh it's just another way to uh kind of get some engagement out of some of the fans as well. Um get them more involved of at the track, on the track kind of stuff.
SPEAKER_04Sure.
SPEAKER_08Um also, too, I think it'll get people maybe to use MRP a little bit more to look up certain drive. Well, who's this guy? Or where's he from?
SPEAKER_02Or what was his last three weeks like? Right. Right.
SPEAKER_08It's kind of like the Jeremy Mills thing. Not a lot of people know who Jeremy Mills is. Uh you know, like, but you hear his name, the guy that that said that if you touch his race car this year, he's gonna throw you in your head like a yard dart. But you know what I'm saying? Like it, but I think the uh the exposure that the podcast is giving, too, is you know, I don't think a lot of people know who Corey Sauerman is.
SPEAKER_02That was twice now. I doubt it. I saw that one.
SPEAKER_08Did you see it?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_10I'm gonna have to go home and take another shot.
SPEAKER_08That's all right. Don't be doing that, Lizzie. Um God, I lost where I was going. What was I saying?
SPEAKER_02Not a lot of people know who Corey Star was.
SPEAKER_08And I'm just saying, like, I think that it's cool to get your story out there, get these drivers' stories out there, because we've all we all know who Tim Ward is, we all know who I am, we know who you know what I mean. Like, I get tired of talking about those guys. Sometimes they're dicks.
SPEAKER_02You get tired of talking about yourself?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I'm I am so tired of it. Like, I got messages from Bone Larson like, dude, you're getting more stream time than half the race cars that down there, and I'm like Does it look like I have the camera?
SPEAKER_02Says the guy that they're carrying around a freaking flat piece of cardboard with his picture on it down in Florida. Did you see that?
SPEAKER_08Yes. Yeah, yeah. Come on, Bone. Yeah, I know. He maybe may I mean he gets a lot more exposure than I do at the dark side promotion stuff. I don't know if it's because he's one of their cronies or if he's you know giving him a reach around uh at the ticket line, or I don't know what he's doing, but hey Bone, if you want to talk a little shit, maybe you come on the podcast.
SPEAKER_02Maybe we can cut his hair. I'm just saying.
SPEAKER_08You know, you guys thought, I mean, but you guys when he when Jeff Bone looks like switchbade Sam, it's on. Look out. He's savage. East side of Illinois, but he'll box your ears off.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, though that's where I was going with Corey. He's always a charger. Like, I know some I know he has terrible luck sometimes, but this goes to show right there, like you had the last three weeks of the year, it was pretty good. And that 17 moves through the field, and it's it's pretty fun to watch you race. It's been fun to watch you come through, and and uh I love hearing you say you're gonna win that track title. Like a lot of guys a lot of guys don't go for those anymore, so I'm I'm glad to hear it. And I also want to put on people's radar. We're really trying to work on some things for the track title which you're working on. We are. We're trying to work on some stuff to to make you want to come wear a spoon every week. So hang with us. We're gonna be able to do that.
SPEAKER_08Okay, I will say they're not increasing the pay, so don't get your hopes out.
SPEAKER_02Well, actually, don't say that just yet.
SPEAKER_10End of the year point phone.
SPEAKER_02Don't say that just yet. So we're we're working on some things. We are, I promise. Just hang with us. We're doing it.
SPEAKER_10So this is the year.
SPEAKER_02I think, but I think you should make her happen.
SPEAKER_10This is the year. It'd be a good one.
SPEAKER_08Don't make me call Trevor. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_10I can either call him or there's one other guy. You call whoever you want to, sweetheart.
SPEAKER_08I seen Rod Charman picked a car up here. Oh boy.
SPEAKER_02Oh boy. Well, stuff's pick fixing to get spicy.
SPEAKER_10Oh, it's getting spicy.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah. Well, on that note, I think we got through everything.
SPEAKER_02I think we did.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. So we want to thank obviously first and foremost Central Iowa Diesel Performance for sticking with us and and jetting the boys over at Ames. So look them up. Um and uh if you ever need any diesel repair or anything like that, if you need a polling truck built, they're pretty good at that too.
SPEAKER_02Want to get crazy? They do some pretty cool stuff. Yeah, they do. They do some crazy shit over there, yeah. They're savage.
SPEAKER_06Well, and then uh obviously Adobe Lounge. Um, pizza.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Dude, pizza's great. Get here, get some pizza.
SPEAKER_08So hey, we are gearing up though, too, to go up to the Midwest Expo Expo.
SPEAKER_02Yes, up in Rochester for some.
SPEAKER_08Um that's gonna be super fun. Um if you uh well this will be this will be aired after the show, right?
SPEAKER_02This one will, yes. Yep.
SPEAKER_08So uh hopefully we see everybody up there at the Midwest Expo this weekend. Uh great event, great I call it the small PRI, but it's way smaller than that. But I say that because it has such good vendors at it. And the vendors that support our area of racing more than anybody.
SPEAKER_02More local feeling.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Yeah, more of a local feeling. I mean, I know it's up in Minnesota, but it's like really, if you think about it, I mean, that's really for where everybody's trying to focus on, it's a very good location. Um, there's a lot of hot nurses up there because it's at the Mayo Clinic.
SPEAKER_02Corey headed up.
SPEAKER_08I'm not Corey, bud. Come on, bring the boys and Lizzie up. Lizzie's watching. We got a swimming pool over there at the Hilton, a little slide.
SPEAKER_10Oh, really? Well, next week is kids' spring break. You know there you go.
SPEAKER_08So hopefully we catch everybody there at the Midwest show.
SPEAKER_02Looking forward to going up and seeing what that's all about. Right. So, and we're gonna put these headsets on, see who we can talk to.
SPEAKER_08Chad Meyer's gonna be there, so that'll burn Jerry's ass. Fanluge speller right there. You know, it took me a long time to figure out that he's the one that spelled that. Maybe that's why he secretly likes me because I've never called him out on it, but I'm calling him out on it. That's so great.
SPEAKER_02I can't wait to see him. Right. Hell yeah.
SPEAKER_06But uh what else we got? Elmquest telling, obviously, Moffat's Ford. Um, yeah, like I said, Adobe, Central Iodiesel Performance, Log Fabrication, P1P Canopy, Barntown Brewing. Barntown Brewing, um, you know, Weirs. We're gonna have to just start creating the list here. Still gotta give a shout out to Weirs. They jumped on with us when we first got started, and we'll see Chad and those guys up at the show. Yep. Um, but yeah, we want to thank everybody. We we do appreciate all the engagement, all the all the comments, the feedback.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, 100%. Boon Speedway appreciates it. Um and the the season's getting close, boys. Like I'm starting to feel it. Uh we got some things we gotta do out of the track. I know that guy at the end of the counter's feeling it because his ass is getting implanted in the old tracker seat, the grater seat. So yeah, it's uh we're about to it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, absolutely. Well, we want to thank Corey Saurman for coming on with us tonight. And uh yeah, you made it through and without you and Jonathan putting each other in headlocks, so that was a success. So still not over yet. He knows better.
SPEAKER_08That's what you are. I'd hit him so fast he'd thought he was surrounded. Oh, geez.
SPEAKER_02And on that note, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Well, folks, we'd like to thank you. But no, for real. Continue to engage, subscribe, like all the things, share the stuff. Um, on that note, we're we're done. So till next week, we will see you again. Thank you for watching Watermelons and Wood Chips.
