I want to race the code. I want to ri you know I didn't get a race to get the devil's bad. That's why I battled all the way.
SPEAKER_04Welcome, Race Vands, Watermelons and Woodchips presented by Central Iowa Diesel Performance episode 31. Right? Yeah, we're on 31. Yep. Okay. 31. Episode 31. And uh little different setup. Josh is in Chicago. He uh he's got to work his regular job every once in a while.
SPEAKER_03So um rumor is though he really just didn't want to be here because of the ash chewing. That's gonna happen here in about minute 17. So we brought Kellen in to ease a little bit up on Coot. But uh he's old enough to uh to see them little lashings of his dad. Maybe you get a little giggle out of that. Yeah, yeah. Man, what a weekend, fellas. Uh Friday night, my daughter turned 14 years old. Um we went to the laughing crab, and man, if you have not been to the laughing crab in Des Moines, highly recommend. Great, fairly priced food was excellent. Yeah. I mean, I was uh man, I mean, it was so good. Really? Yeah, oh man, it was so good. If you're if you like crawfish, uh no, I don't I don't do the I don't do the tails. Yeah. Uh the little crawfish, way too much work. I got the uh crab legs, pound of shrimp, couple lobster tails, tried a muscle for the first time. Uh if you don't like fishy shit or chewy shit, don't do it. Yeah. Because it was gross. Yeah. But all the other stuff was great. The crab ragons were great, the hush puppies were good. Um yeah, so I got to miss out on the uh wild events that happened at the Marshtown Speedway. Um season opener for them on Friday night. Uh had a good car turn car count turnout for them over there. Um and they put on some good racing. There was some mayhem over there. We got a lot of mayhem this week um with race cars, uh, racetracks. Um I thought it was pretty good. I watched, of course, on Friday night on Flow Sports. And uh the pro late models, I got a chuckle out of it. People were talking they didn't seem like they were really to be called the pro late model series for how many cars finished the race. And you know what? Every class is every class has done that, uh been in that position. First night out for a lot of those drivers, uh, working off some of that rust, working uh, you know, call the the car blues or whatever you want to call it, working out those bugs and and stuff. Uh but uh the racetrack, you know what, it ended up shaping up to be a decent night for the racetrack and uh moved on to, you know, uh uh we ended up getting our stuff all ready to go for Saturday at the old Boone Speedway. And I ended up racing yesterday at the Benton County Speedway at their season opener, and uh it's a pretty long weekend. We're we're gearing up for the dynamic drive line duel this year this Wednesday night at the Stewart International Speedway.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, a lot of racing now that things are kind of kicking off and and kind of getting in full stride now, you know.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, a lot of guys are starting to the weather's getting a little nicer. The uh everybody's starting to really uh, you know, there's been a lot of misfortune with rainouts and stuff for a lot of tracks across the state, but uh people are starting to finally get him in. They had Indy last uh Tuesday night for their uh what are they we're calling it? Their season opener, fun Tuesday, excellent racing. I don't know if anybody caught any of that. I watched it on Tuesday night, and man, the stock car race, the the sport mod race. I mean, excellent, excellent racing up there. Um yeah, I think just the nice weather too, you know. It's it just isn't windy and 35 degrees at 8 o'clock at night, right, is helping too. But um man, I I've been excited for this podcast because of everything that's just happened this weekend.
SPEAKER_04I know. Wow, and you know what's funny is and we'll get into it, but like as that's all happening, I'm thinking standing in the infield, like Bobcat's gonna have a lot to talk about.
SPEAKER_03But I I asked for a headset multiple times. I tried getting Tommy's, I tried getting Jeff's. Um, you know, uh, I couldn't believe first of all, I couldn't believe how many cars showed up Saturday. 179 cars. Um Wow. Pretty good average so far. I mean, it makes you makes you wonder. Mike Van Gundren's calling me. Because he he made fun of me on how I spelt Stuart in my post because I spelt S W. You know, and all I all I replied was uh finger flip off. And now he's calling me and I'm not answering it. But no, no offense, Mike. We're we're just in the middle of a show here. Yeah. Uh I knew that if I sent that, he'd probably give me a call thinking, you know. But uh yeah, I mean, holy shit. Forty 40 plus cars in three different divisions. Um wow. And then uh I think it was uh we're just gonna go into it, dude, because we're just right here. We're right on it. We're talking about the opener night here, not opener night, but uh the third night at the Boon Speedway. We got the driver's meeting going on, uh, pits are packed, um, and all of a sudden we hear the big L come out with no B mains double features, and the listeners want to know why, when, where, and who the hell. I had so many people come up to me during the farm sessions. I thought you were on. We we Cody basically went on suicide watch um in the infield. Um, like, man, I have so much to say, and but what who made the call and why did we do it?
SPEAKER_04So we none of us knew about it. Um I think it was something that Lottie wanted to try. Um, and uh yeah, I I didn't know. I mean, I literally had said, Yeah, hey, thanks, thanks for coming. Um, you know, we appreciate you guys. Pretty status quo, like regular points night.
SPEAKER_03Still no ashtunes, which is good. Yeah, we're three weeks in. So I I you know a lot of people paid attention to that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And uh then they Sarah came over to the radio and said, Hey, we're gonna run the um the classes that have over over 40 cars. Um, no B mains, we're gonna run double features in those. Um, so that was news to me. And uh, you know, at the end of the day, we just gotta kinda do what we're told, right? So yeah, right. Yeah, absolutely. And uh, like I said, it was a surprise to me and as much as it was to to you guys, to everybody, right? Yeah, right. So um, I mean it it was definitely interesting, right? Right. It was it was interesting not having B mains in it. You know, we had to uh yeah, just it just changes the way you do things, right? Like usually you'd have another touch-up session in there, but with no no B main to a main break, um they don't they got to farm it once, and then we ran straight through. And then, you know, I I don't know if they ever planned on doing another one at some point in time, but you know, we were watching the radar too, and it was showing uh rain at like 11 o'clock, which I don't know if it ever actually did end up excuse me, uh pulled Jonathan there. Uh uh I don't know if we ever actually ended up getting rain done. I don't think we did later on in the night, but uh so we were kind of watching that, but that like that cell, I was I just kept watching on my phone, and it sat over the top of Denison like all night, like it didn't move, and it would dis it would start moving east and then dissipate. So we got we got everything through, and um I got to talk to eight drivers in the infield instead of five. So that was interesting. Um it did produce um a new winner with the hobby socks, you know. Shane Shane Butler never picked up a win before in his life and got his first one, which was cool. Um yeah, it was just it definitely uh shook things up. What were you doing, Josh, in the booth?
SPEAKER_03Were you like shitting or were you like what was going on up there in the booth?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I uh yeah, I was definitely um surprised. But it ended up not being uh too bad for me. I mean, I I had to figure the lineups by hand, so it kind of kind of took me back to that little bit of old school.
SPEAKER_03I was gonna say I think that that was that that is where I'm going with this question. People are gonna think that we're just trying to be negative on here now. Don't get me wrong, there was a lot of confusion and a lot of pissed off people just because of uh a lot of things. And we're gonna we're gonna get into those here because I'm gonna ask those questions because that's just you know, that's what I do on here. And like how you guys, I feel like, you know, there's a lot of pros and a lot of cons to um this situation, and I and I feel like the more and more you think about it, the more cons there are than pros. And and just for a perspective, as uh from my perspective for points and the you know, there is not a single sport out there that is like a participation sport, and this isn't a jab at any of the drivers. This is just my opinion on this deal. Is it cool that everybody got to race in A-Main? Yeah, it is, but at the same time, you know, I want to race the Kareem. I want to ri you know, I didn't get a race against Devin Smith. That's who I battled all last year for the championship. Well, mishortunes in the first A main, because you can bet your ass that Devin's gonna be right in there along with us um, you know, in that accident that happened or whatever. So now here I sit, I get taken out, gotta go to the pits, my my car's wrecked, uh, which can happen on any night. But Devin Smith, and this isn't a jab at Devin. This isn't, I'm just using him as an example because him and I were so close in points last year. I won the points by three or four points. So I think a lot of people are scratching their head on how do they do the points like that? Do we do double, we just give double points if there's double features. Um, so now you know, everybody that technically would get non-qualifier points is now getting feature points. Like a lot of people are wondering, well, you know, what's what's the point of a track championship at the at this point? You know, also um, you know, am I if I win, say I win the first feature and you know, Devin Smith wins the second feature, we're not racing in the same feature again next week, or are we racing in the same feature? Like, there's so many questions and so many things. Like, if you're running for a national title and Boon Speedway is doing this, you're not racing Boon Speedway for a title. Because you you uh maybe a guy that you're potentially racing against is racing at Boon Speedway as well and has a shot to get a win the same night that you do. But sometimes we've we've all known this that uh that that comes down to people traveling to other places to race that competitor and to beat them. Right. To to get those extra wins, to get those bonus points and stuff like that. And I think that there's a lot of I think that's why a lot of people were just so confused and thrown off guard and pissed off about it.
SPEAKER_04Well, you just have like I said, you just automatically your brain clicks onto what about this? What about this?
SPEAKER_03What about this? Right, right. Right. Now, back in the day, okay, when when the only class Boon Speedway has done this before. Now, it was the only class doing that at the time was hobby stocks because there was 80 of them. I mean, I understand that. That makes a lot of sense, you know, and when you have 80 cars for one class, oh shit, I forgot the button. But but I I mean, man, there's just so many. Now, did the racetrack, you know, did everybody adapt to the situation like in a matter of seconds and do an awesome job at it? 100%. The track crew, I feel like they were really caught off guard because they prepped a racetrack for a normal night of racing. Um, so I feel, you know, like that miscommunication really sucks because the ultimately at the end of the day, you guys know just as well as I do, everybody that's involved with the boon speedway gets the blame for the racetrack being a pile of crap. If it's a pile of crap, they never pat you on the back when it's good. Right. Right? Yes. So I feel like, you know, I know this because of the boon speedway and me living here and seeing how much effort goes into the speedway during the week. So when you get thrown a curveball, and what I'm meaning by this is that the track crew did great for what they could do. I feel like if they would have known that this was going on on Thursday, they could have prepped the racetrack to be prepared more for that many laps, right? Like they do at a supernational zoo in the beginning of the week, if that makes sense.
SPEAKER_04Sure. Well, and like I said, you you nor you're used to doing something a certain way. Correct. And then, you know, there's no break in between because you don't want to stop in the middle of features to reprep the racetrack. Or at least we usually don't.
SPEAKER_03Well, not during the features, you don't, because you normally have those B features. Right. You know, you've got a little bit of a it also gives guys more time to work on their race car because you know, if they they get tore up in a heat race or or or even hot laps. I mean, we've seen that happen before too. We lost a little bit of that time on Saturday because we're preparing, you know, like, okay, so after the last hobby stock race, it's mod lights to staging. Now, granted, they only have one feature, but sport mod guys, you know, you're you're giving them a 15-minute farm session, which maybe it was longer than 15 on Saturday. I'm not sure. I'm just it's normally about that time. Then you got the mod lights up there, and then all of a sudden, you know, now we're we're bam, bam, bam, bam, bam. Um so I don't know, there was just a lot of confusion, a lot of uh, a lot of eventful things happened on Saturday night, and I I personally truly think that it was a terrible call. Um I think it hurts the Boone Speedway, um, in my opinion, uh, if they continue to do that just because of this points deal. Um, you know, like people come to the Boon Speedway because there's cream of the crop here. Right. And they want to race. I want to race all the cream of the crop, and I don't want to participate. What the prestige of winning that race, and this isn't a jab at any driver or anybody at the racetrack, but it's like I want to go out there and beat the best. It's no different in football, basketball, baseball, any of that stuff.
SPEAKER_04I mean, I mean, it's no different, you know, taking him somewhere to a national tournament or wrestling tournament or whatever, and and you you know you're gonna wrestle the best guys if you if you're going to that event.
SPEAKER_03Right, right. So I think a lot of people, you know, like I said, a lot of people come to Boone because there is a lot of good talent. And it's and it's not just, you know, there's a lot of racetracks where there's there might be four or five guys. Well, the Boone Speedway, just and I'm I'm going off the stock our stats because I that's what I race, but the last three years has averaged 48 cars weekly. Weekly. Ten of those guys can win a race anywhere in the country. Yeah. So it's like it's already, I mean, that's the first five rows. You know, I mean, yeah, that is, and it's tough. It's no different. You don't see, you know, college football, you know, or the NFL picking up the the D team to go straight in, you know, and and then I think people also look at it as like, okay, the pay at Boone Speedway Um is a little different than a lot of racetracks. A lot of racetracks, when you get non-qualifying money, it's less than what it pays to start. Boon Speedway is not that way. Right. So, and I also feel like where it really a lot was kind of an eye-opener. Like, if you're a new race car guy, or not a new race car guy, but if you're a race racer that is looking to come to race at the Boone Speedway just because they have double features and you're wanting to get laps and you're wanting to, you know, like that's all great. But then also, too, you look at how much carnage there was on Saturday night because of certain circumstances and uh situations on now maybe that person isn't gonna be able to make it back to the boon speedway because of a circumstance that happened on the racetrack to where it tore their race car up more if they were necessarily in a B main where you weed them out. You weed them out, yeah. Like, like I'm I'm not trying to hurt anybody's feelings, but you know what? Fuck it. If you are not that good, you belong in a B main because that's where you get better. That's you you get you get laps and you're racing against people that are the same, you know, same, what am I trying to say here? Like uh same level caliber caliber or or level at of racing. Now, in the heat races, we we've talked about this before. When people come in and they opt to go to the back and stuff, that that's that's super respectful. And there's a lot of racers that are that way. Right. And I feel like those racers already know coming to the Boon Speedway, especially even Marshalltown, any racetrack you go to, they know there's a guy there. You know, back in the day it was my dad. Oh shit, Loke's here. And there were guys that were good that even said say that. I say that about people too. So I don't know. I I think that if the Boon Speedway wants to do that and give the guys the most laps and everything, I think that it needs to just be a non-qualifiers race, in my opinion, that pays a little bit less or whatever, or just pays, you know, to win, pays what tow money is for that class. I don't I don't know. I don't know what the solution is. I know you guys are smart and are already brainstorming on what's going on because there's a thousand people out there.
SPEAKER_04Right. And you're hearing, you know, like I said, I I had heard both sides of it. You know, you have guys that are excited because they get a chance to race in the future no matter what. Right. Right. Right. And then you have also have the guys like what have the same opinion as what you're saying, you know. Yeah. Um they want to race, you know, the best guys, they want to beat the best guys, um, they want to, you know, and and when the when the best guys are in the race, like you said, the chances of the carnage are less.
SPEAKER_03Right. So well, and it could just be a deal where a rookie, you know, just a a fresh driver trying to learn, even following the rules, you know, as far as the layover flag and all that stuff, shit happens, you know. And so I it just really those people that are that are running B mains and stuff and and making A mains um the hard way, I feel like it's it's it means something. A little more too, you know. Right. Like then instead of just a like it's just a participation thing. It goes back to that participation thing. So um, you know, and there ain't the one thing that does set Boon Speedway aside is there ain't another track in the country that does it. I don't foresee Boone doing it weekly. I mean, I could be wrong, but I don't see that just because of, you know, all the what ifs. Um, but uh man, I mean, if you want to talk about explode the dirt world um Saturday night, April 25th, 2026, baby did that.
SPEAKER_04Right. Yeah, and um like I said, we we were kind of taken off um off guard by it a little bit, and you just gotta adapt and adjust, and that's all all we could do with that.
SPEAKER_03Thank God the modifieds only had one feature for the watermelons and performance bodies trophy giveaway, huh? Come on. I know got lucky with that. Right. So that was a awesome positive. And and don't get me wrong, seeing a new winner, you know, Shane Butler, we're using him as an example. I did not know that he hadn't won a race. I didn't know he hadn't. Congratulations to him.
SPEAKER_04I didn't Josh, did you know that was his first?
SPEAKER_01I I had a feeling when he was when he was getting close. I turned to Sarah and I said, I think this might be his first one. And she said, Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is. Well, and how exciting is that?
SPEAKER_04What'd he say? 16? This is his 16th season.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so that's uh that's cool.
SPEAKER_03That that's that's super, super cool. Super cool. So there were positive.
SPEAKER_01A lot, a lot of dedication. A lot of dedication.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, it's a it's a we've talked about it. It's an addiction, it's a drug, it's uh it's uh man, it sucks you in and it never lets you go. It's it's worse than a drug, I'm telling you, because I've done them all. And not a lot of people know that, but I mean, I was in a dark place before, and that's why my racing career started so late, you know. So um, but Shane Butler picking that up in the hop IMCA hobby stocks. There was there there wasn't another we had repeat winners in the we can um I'm just looking at the the time.
SPEAKER_04We can go through um we can start from the top. Um Carquest mod light feature. Um that was loud. Um we're just uh I'm learning things on this uh being plugged directly in here. Um yeah, so I did not realize this until just now that old one foot B Z picking up the win, he started sixth row.
SPEAKER_03BZ, okay, so B Z comes up and says, Hey, how much are they gonna farm the track? I'm like, bud, do I look like I got a headset on?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you know, and I was standing there and I don't know, you know.
SPEAKER_03I'm like, but but you did. You broke it down for him though. I I but I shot right from the hip, and guess what? It actually worked out for him. And B Z is just like all if I would have been like, oh, they're mudding it, they're putting two loads of water on it, he would have loosened that thing up and ran 20th. Oh, but I I just told him, set up for the crumbs, bud. She's gonna be she's gonna be crummy. And guess what? Right, it was it was uh it was a very different racetrack. Now the wind played a big factor into that too. It was windy. Yeah. But uh, and and the reason I said that is because, like I've said, if you're not listening, the farming is the most important part of the boon speedway. Right. It's the most important tool. That's what we're racing on. Right. Because now that we've talked about this a few times, I do see more and more gathering to the wall, but I mean, there was 180 drivers, and I'll tell you right now, there wasn't 180 watching them farming.
SPEAKER_04Right. Right. Well, and but you see the guys that are fast, they're watching. They're most of them are watching. Right, right, right. So um, let's see. So, yeah, BZ picking up another win. Um, Josh May goes second, Scott Bailey third in the 21st machine, Tracy Glick goes fourth. Um, and Kobe Obrent goes top five for the mod lights.
SPEAKER_03Also, yeah, also, real quick, want to thank everyone sticking out the finger dance. Uh, it's like a hit. Like people are standing up and doing it. And then I also seen something. What's what's the deal with the mod light guys lifting the roof up? Is that how they're waving? Because I've seen that they got the little flap, the little hatch flap. Is that what it is? Right. Well, guys, I know you're listening. Quit doing it and get the finger out the right front. Let's go. Come on.
SPEAKER_04Right. Uh so then, yeah, so then we go to the first Elmquist towing sport mod feature. Uh Cam Rymers goes plus seven from eighth to win. Um Will Wolf goes second in the 7W, Brett Thomas third, Hunter Longnecker fourth, Curtis Fieber, top five in that one. Um but uh that one got dicey at the end, too, when they caught lap traffic a couple of laps to go. And uh Will was able to get back to Cam through lap traffic, and then Cam just had to kind of kind of play, not necessarily play protect mode, but kind of slow down a little bit, and then just I think there was one or two to go and all that stuff was going on with the lap cars. But um Cam picking up that win, the second feature. Um Jake Socco goes plus eight also. Willie Kirk goes plus eight um to second. Willie's been really fast here the last couple weeks. Yeah. Um Brian Morris third, Josiah Taylor fourth, Randy Havlick uh plus 12. Josiah Taylor was a plus 14, 18th to four, and Randy Havlick was a plus twelve, seventeen to five. So a lot of green arrows in those sport mod features, um, modified one head to one feature um with uh 26 cars. Uh the the old uh karate kid himself, Trevor Fitz picking up the win with Saurman behind him. That was the best part, right?
SPEAKER_03I was waiting for Sourman to do the old Kung Fu something, you know, because he's he he's gotta have a little balance to him, because he's a little short.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. But uh, you know, they it was just funny how it worked out, how we've been given those we talked about it on an earlier podcast, and uh you know, and then so the best part is like Trevor's like fully gone in on the joke, right? Like so, and then um those two end up racing for the win. I mean, Trevor kind of checked out at the end, but um it was yeah, it just worked out pretty good. Jakster, uh McBurney went from 13th to third, Chazbaca fourth, and then Cowboy Ray, Jeremy Mills um was in the top five. Um and then yeah, Jacob Murray went was our hard charger plus seventeen. Yeah. Oh yeah, you're right, he did. Yes, because he was in on the was that he went off turn one, right? Right right on yeah. So yeah, he did go plus 17 a couple different times, I guess, if you want to look at it that way. Um, let's see. Stock our feature one. This is we I don't want to can I just skip stock our feature one and skip Jonathan's blood pressure spike? Uh just rip the band-aid off. Right, yeah, rip it off. Jimmy Gustin wins. Uh he was a plus five, but ended up going to the tail um at the beginning of the race and driving back up. So he uh restarted 20th and drove up to the win. Um Dan McAtoon. Um I did not know that was Dan because the car said 7x on the side. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I've uh I don't know if who he's driving. Uh I don't know whose car he's driving. Yeah, he's usually the old 92.
SPEAKER_04Yep. Uh Kasen Keller, good run for him. He was third. Uh Garrett Korn, your boy. He was in the top four. Hunter Smith, top five, and then Living Legend, Robert Stofer. He was up to third at one point in time, but uh he was a plus fourteen. He he actually did start 20th and drive up to six, but like I said, he was up to third at one point. But we're just gonna get into it here, Bobcat. I mean, the old 69 machine was fast in that first in the first one. And you and I talked before the show. At the beginning, it looked like you were kind of just settling in, but then like once you found the bottom, because you you started out trying to go where everybody else wasn't up top.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, the the the modifieds. I watched the first few laps of that and the bottom looked pretty good, and there were some guys that were working the top. Um, and they it looked like it was gonna clean up there, and I knew my boy the old corn nugget, Jerry as Jerry would call him. Another episode without Jerry, too. I haven't said that for a couple weeks, but always great. Don't even have a guest, we didn't even have anybody lined up. We probably could have had him on, but uh just wasn't really par for the course. We got Kellen on before him. We got Kellen on K Money over here on before the old J Van. Uh, but uh I knew that the corn nugget was going to be ripping the lip, and I'm like, okay, they dropped the rag, we come off of turn four. Beside, hold on a minute. We do have some in-car cam footage of this event and these events. But they dropped the rag off of turn four. We go down into turn one and the old corn nugget, and I like there's a lane up there. I'm not, I mean, there's only a few that know how to hit it, and you and I'm just not even gonna go into it, but we hit it like perfectly, and then that was when all that chaos shit happened down on the in in the infield, or on in in coming out of turn two. So I'm like, boy, we're good. Because man, we just drove by. I started eighth. I started fourth row outside, yeah, fourth row outside. Well, then they call it back, uh, straight up restart. So now I'm like, okay, we're we're in pretty good shape here. Like, even if we got to make a lap or so up top, the bottom was a little bit better than the top. I stayed up there probably a little longer than I should, and then was like, all right, I need to I need to get down and just see what it's all about down there. And I mean, it was my it just worked. I'm just really good at rolling that bottom. Um, and we start clicking cars off. Basically, after Dave Smith passed me, I'm like, okay, I need to get down because it's like really good down there. Um and I know Dave is super good at holding that bottom line, and there's only a certain few people that can run that bottom line and get their nose in next to or beside a guy, and he's one of them. So I'm like, shit. I just, you know, not knowing at that time whether I'm gonna win the race, but I know how hard it's gonna be to pass the eight car when he's down there. So I basically tuck right or you know, get in there and start picking cars off, and uh, we get down to him and he shows uh his nose to the 23, the old Gustoff, and and I don't know if it just flustered him or what, but uh there's your button. There's my button. I had one coming, I had one hanging. Uh Gustoff just drives down into third three and four. Um, you know, when somebody gets beside you, you try to push it a little bit harder, and he went in and lost it. And from my view, it didn't look like Dave uh got into him. I don't know that because I couldn't 100% see it, but uh of course I had nowhere to go and uh you know pull up there and smash into the side of Gustav and into the left side of Dave, and it bent my lower A-frame and ball joint and tie rod, and everybody's like, why didn't you stay out?
SPEAKER_02You know, and I'm like, Well, because I couldn't steer, you know.
SPEAKER_03I actually thought I had a flat tire, that's why I pulled up and stopped next to Logan. And then I realized I pulled up too far and I couldn't see him, and I was like, like trying, I was like trying to build it up to like he can't see me. Right. I can't see him either. I'm like, screw it, I'm just gonna pull off because I I knew something wasn't right. And uh then I got back to the trailer and had my meltdown pretty much about uh how pissed off I was about the racetrack because my race car was good. Yeah, you know, one of them deals. And uh so I tried going over and getting Tommy's headset and Jeff's headset to see what was going on out there, and they thought it was in my best interest not to get that. I don't know if this whole headset Josh thing, well, I haven't had one yet in three weeks, but I mean, I don't know if it'd be a good idea.
SPEAKER_04I I mean I'm waiting for Josh to chime in. I agree.
SPEAKER_03Do you though? Like, is this are you saying that because you're like 400 miles away?
SPEAKER_01It's a good possibility.
SPEAKER_03No, all for real, all besides. It's just one of them things. I'm very passionate about it, and I was just pissed off and is what it is.
SPEAKER_04But it's part of racing, man. It's the most humbling thing. Oh, you can be on top of the world, and then yeah. 100%. But yeah, while that happened while that was going on, I'm like, I'm just thinking in my in my mind as this all happens, I'm like, for one, we had the NCAR cam on, so I was like, oh, this is gonna be cool, but we the the best is gonna be the the footage of Jonathan when he gets back to the pits, right? Yeah, and two, I mean he yeah, we're gonna hear about it, but no.
SPEAKER_03I mean, just it's gonna be good footage because we forgot to turn the camera off for like I don't know, uh quite a while. Yeah, yeah. Right. So there's some good shit on there for sure.
SPEAKER_04Um feature two. John Watson, the mayor, picks up the win. Is that his first stock car win? Uh I would say, I don't know, Josh. Do you know? Um, I'm gonna say probably not in a stock car because he raced stock car on and off for a while and then went back to the hobby stock stuff.
SPEAKER_01I feel like he may have gotten one back. Remember when he had a sober stock car he was racing for, I think it was Jimmy Keenan.
SPEAKER_04They had a they have a stock car or they had a hobby, and I think they did a stock car for a little bit, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well, because he did a sport mod too, didn't he? Yeah, yeah, for a little while. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04I'll text Jimmy and find out.
SPEAKER_03But you can see now the difference there from stock car one to stock car two. Stock car one was on the bottom. Yeah. Stock R2 cleaned up.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, stock car two cleaned up. And uh I mean, yeah, like I said, it just cleaned up around the top, and you can see they were. I don't know if it started to latch up there or not. I mean, it it definitely cleaned up. Oh, it latched. Yeah, it latched. I usually if it gets like if I'm on the infield, I can smell it. I couldn't really smell it. So the wind, bud. Yeah, that's you all flustered down. Yeah, that could be, yeah, that's a good point. That's a good point. Yeah, because um, but yeah, like I said, you can usually see it clean up and then they're like it turns to like a weird gray color.
SPEAKER_03Well, and it didn't quite latch until probably oh I don't know, seven, eight to go. Like you could really see the shine, which was so weird because like I said, when we were out there running, what happened was is that a lot of guys went to the bottom and just dirtied it by throwing up the the crummy stuff, and then for whatever reason there were more guys in the second feature that just were like, hey, we're gonna clean this thing off and make a lane up here. Right. And that's what happened. Right. And then it ended up just being the dominant lane at the end of the night, which we all know how that happens, but it didn't really affect the hobby stock guys.
SPEAKER_04No, no, the difference in tires help that. Well, uh to finish the top five in a feature two, John Watson gets the win. Tyler Peck Pickett goes second, Michael Jeanette goes third, Doug Smith fourth, and Devin Smith was fifth. Um, so but then going to the hobby stocks, like you said, they were kind of all over the place. But there again, different tire, dot tire. Um just it changes how they race. Um it went back to the bottom for the first one. Um Will Smith picking up another win. So took him a while to get the first one, and now he's he's got two in a row. So Hobby Stock World, you better look out because this kid is quiet and dangerous. Yes. And he did a really good job. Um because uh Tom Killen Jr. was right there with him at the end.
SPEAKER_03And has been racing for a long time. Right. And I tell you what, Will Smith carried the Smith Torch Saturday night. Didn't get flustered, did not get flustered. I mean, I thought for sure, you know, because he's just picking up his first win uh two weeks ago. Um, you know, like that's a big deal, but the getting your getting your first one's always the hardest. And then, you know, uh getting your second one is a little bit easier, but you still got to stay focused, and you could definitely tell that the 31 did that and executed, and uh, I think we're just gonna see a uh see a ton more out of him uh this year. Um and that's that's super exciting for him just because he's he's he's so shy.
SPEAKER_04Right. And he's always talking about how I was messing up here, and I'm like, dude, you you're fine. Right. You did you did fine.
SPEAKER_03Well, I mean, like we've talked about that before, bud. I mean, you go to a dinner date with the Smith family and talk about your mistakes on the racetrack, it could get, I mean, they're all good. So big shoes to fill. But you know what, Will? You got your own shoes to fill, man. A lot of people used to tell me about that with my dad, and oh, you're John Logue's kid. And yes, that that does weigh on you, but at the same time, we create our own shoes and and create our own our own name in the racing world, too. So excellent job, Will Smith.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he's been good. He's he's been really, really good the last couple weeks. So um Joey Young going third, Zach Ankrum fourth, Braden Gifford fifth, um Seth Butler going plus 13, 19th to sixth. Um A feature two, speaking of the Butlers, Shane Butler, like we talked earlier in the episode, picking up his very first feature win, uh, which is which is really cool for him. Um I did not know that he moved to Glidden, so I in my interview I said you better not go burn down Green County. Well, he's in Gliddon, so uh is that in Green? That's not Green County, is it?
SPEAKER_03Gliddon, isn't that the home of the uh the missile? Mike Paulie? Yeah. Yeah, no, that's not I no, definitely not in Green County. No, it's just a little further. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04Welcome back, RaceFans, Watermelons and Wood Chips, presented by Central Iowa Diesel Performance. And uh went through all the results here, and we are gonna go to power updated power rankings. So with the double features, I didn't know how this would work out, but it did uh it worked everything in like normal um on our uh on our sheet. So um Josh looks a little clearer now.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, I don't know if I sound any clearer, but I definitely look clearer.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, no, you do sound you sound better, and you don't I don't think you have as big of a delay either, doesn't it sound like no, no, it was like seven, eight seconds or sorry, six, seven.
SPEAKER_01Haven't done that for a while.
SPEAKER_04Right. So going into it'll be oh, sorry, go ahead.
SPEAKER_01Nope, nope. I was just gonna say uh the power rankings, um the the custom formula is working itself out, everything is is in really good shape.
SPEAKER_04So with that being said, it's got uh all three, yep, plus two, yep. Um, let's see. Top ten overall, Cowboy Ray, Jeremy Mills is at one, Braden Richards is at two, is that was he there? No this weekend? No, he wasn't there.
SPEAKER_01So it's not doing the drop off yet because it's week three, I think, is when that starts. Oh sorry, week four, week four.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because it takes your best three weeks, right?
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, because it did because it did bump you down.
SPEAKER_03Oh the guy that doesn't show up gets is still number two, and the guy that's been there all three weeks drops down typical boon speedway shit, folks. I tell you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's not just the racetrack that's rigged, it's the computer shit too, people.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Um, let's see. Oh, it's because of the recen's the recency weight, too. Um yeah, look at that. We'll double check all this, but the way it's got uh Sakos third, Braden Gifford's fourth, of course Irman fifth, Josh May sixth, Austin Gray seventh, Hunter Smith eighth, Buck Shafroth ninth, Jake Wickbrae top ten. So it moved a little bit. Um yeah, I think that'll start to lop off when we get to week four. So with the way this formula works. So um I'll get them get our uh ESPN style, whatever you want to call it, table and get it all figured out.
SPEAKER_03But uh a lot of people talking about that power rankings deal. It's pretty cool, you know. People are following it and it just adds another little something to the to the kitty. Right. Cool point for sure, you know. Definitely.
SPEAKER_04Um yeah, I can wait a look at that, but anyway. Uh I don't know, I might have fudged something up in my sheet, but anyway, that's where we're at right now. So if it needs fixed, I'll fix it. So hey, you know, just like the races on Saturday, we're just going on the fly here. So it's not gonna be perfect sometimes.
SPEAKER_03That's just how it happens. There's uh uh it's just uh a deal and and uh making the best of it in the situations is all you can do at those times. It's no different than what we gotta do on the race car on the racetrack. You know, you gotta make the best out of that situation, and I think everybody done that, and that's what we're gonna do with this Adobe Lounge Power Rankings here. Figure out that. And like we said, we we said to be patient with it, uh, you know, because of the formula and how it works, and and uh I think now that we've got these three weeks in, um, like Cody and Josh are saying, you know, it's gonna shape right up and be uh very, very interesting moving forward here with the Adobe Lounge Power Rankings at the Boon Speedway. Uh moving moving from the power rankings, uh Moffitt's Mayhem. Holy moly, did we have some mayhem uh not just at Boone Speedway, but we had mayhem at uh Marshalltown Speedway. We had mayhem at Boone Speedway, we had red flags at all three tracks this weekend, um Benton County Speedway, uh the bowl ring over there. I watched uh uh front wheel drive, the old four-banger. I mean, he took a nasty roll down in turn one and two. Um and the was it the F-18 IMCA sport mod that took a nasty one there coming out of turn four and ended up on the front stretch one? No, 33. Oh, the 33. Yeah, the 33. Um man. Uh Troy Morris taking a nasty up off a turn two. Uh well, not hit. I don't know the gentleman that rolled down the back straightaway and ended up in the street.
SPEAKER_01Sean Johnson.
SPEAKER_03Sean Johnson. Wow. I'm glad he is okay. What an absolute they didn't catch it on the stream until the very end um that I seen, but holy moly, did that guy go for a ride. Um, you know, the the the the biggest thing about all of those crashes at all those racetracks is the drivers walked away from each and every one of those uh race cars are irreplaceable and and drivers are not. So hats off to all the chassis builders um for uh you know doing their jobs in the shop.
SPEAKER_01Definitely. And you know, Sean, a former supernationals winner in the stock cars, and uh I he had to have gone over three or four times and fast, like a backstretch roll like that, and I don't know what happened. If he got turned into the wall, I really don't, but yeah, glad to see he was okay.
SPEAKER_03Them guys were slicing and dicing all night, and you know, when you get when when guys are doing that, you know, there's bound sometimes. There's just bad things happen, and it's and it's just not a it's just a racing deal, you know, and um that's just kind of part of it, it's part of the sport. Um and that's what happens when you're going super fast. Uh they happen in a blink of an eye.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they had uh sorry, I was looking at this thing still. Um quit looking at it. Sorry.
SPEAKER_01Don't don't forget about Shane Stoneburner.
SPEAKER_03I yeah, I was just gonna say I forgot about the old Stoneburner. He I I talked to Shane, he he's in a in a rage car, and he said he just got up there and hooked the old right rear on that top lip and it just real soft roll. He said I talked to him on Sunday, they were they were pulling the car apart and tearing it apart and seeing what if anything was super screwed up or anything, but uh he said it was pretty soft, but uh very unfortunate for the Fourier K.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, because his was yeah, just kind of like a little tip over there, you know, and and uh yeah, I just barely got that thing, and and when he was trying to save it, and it just kind of whooped over to on top. Um didn't quite make it all the way around, so he sat upside down. So that's gotta be like the worst feeling sitting upside down in a race guy.
SPEAKER_03Well, yeah, because you're just thinking about all the oil and shit running to the intake and all the fuel leaking and not out of the tank, but you know, out of the carburetor or whatever, you know, in the water, and and then you know the track personnel. I mean, they were Johnny on the spot as always, right over there, got him flipped over, got the hillbilly hooked up to him. And sometimes the flip over is worse than the rollover. Right. And I don't know if there just isn't a good way to grab a hold of these things. Uh, you know, I had that rollover last year, first night, second night, whatever it was, and the the flip over did more damage than my actual rollover, you know, and it no jabs at the guys, it's just how it works and how it comes down and is what it is. But they uh it it it was weird too because when they went to flip him over, it was like quiet, and then you could hear it like on the ground, you know. So just glad that Shane was able to walk away from that as well. Uh, like I said, wasn't wasn't a tough tumble, but sometimes, you know, we've seen some bad ones really do some serious damage, and you just never know. So very, very fortunate, very uh good to see all of those drivers at all the racetracks this weekend walk away from them. And uh I'm sure them guys are hard at the shop this week, uh getting all their hot rods ready to go for this weekend.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and you know, like I said, it's just uh like we talked earlier, it's part of the sport, right? Where you just uh wrong place, wrong time on some of those deals, and um you know, going back to to the one on Marshalltown that stuck out was like the Troy Morris and Logan Duffy deal.
SPEAKER_03And I mean, it reminded me right off the end of the race. It reminded me of Cade Dillard and Garrett Alverson in Batesville. I mean, all over. And I'm just like, whoa, they're not having lunch on Monday.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it was uh it was definitely uh no Christmas cards exchanged. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, I gotta tell you guys too. Uh so I worked the VIP window uh at the pit shack on Saturday, and I got to talk to Shane's dad, Denny. And uh sounds like we have ourselves a future guest booked for watermelons and wood chips because he loves the podcast. And he I said, We gotta get you booked and get you on there. And he said, Okay.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that uh I he had messaged me a while back, like, man, it'd be so cool to get you on here. And he's like, Oh, I don't know about that.
SPEAKER_03I'm like, Man, it'd be awesome. We're probably gonna have to do it at the shop, boys, because Denny likes to burn rods. Okay, okay. That might be uh I just remember as a kid, he'd take a big old drag off of that sucker and he'd talk to you, and all the smoke would come out of his mouth.
SPEAKER_04You know, I just always watched him do that.
SPEAKER_03And since nobody else does, I do the stony wave, the hang loose. Yeah, because I seen Denny Stoneburner do that as a kid. Right. And I don't see anybody else do it. So don't worry, Denny. I picked it up. I do the hang loose all the time. That is my wave since the old Stoneburner dropped her off there in 2006. Yeah, it would be cool.
SPEAKER_04I you know uh Tony F. Camp's in town too, so he'd be another good one to get five get him on, you know. That era of stock car um stock car days, man. So we'll definitely have to work on getting those guys dialed in, and we got a big table now, so absolutely on here. Um so yeah, Moffat's man, plenty of it, plenty of it. Plenty of it, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um hey, hey guys, did Jonathan, didn't your week end last week at Moffat's Ford?
SPEAKER_03I it did. I tell you what. So I get a phone call from the boys. They uh they they wanted some exhaust welded up on the old water truck, and I tried putting straight pipes, the old cherry bomb glass pipe, you know, glass packs. Remember the old cherry bomb? You burn them out and just cackle. But Hank uh didn't think that that was a good idea, so we went ahead with the old muffler set up, took it out to Moffitt's Ford, uh, to our awesome sponsor and uh supporter of the Boom Speedway and our awesome podcast here at Watermelons and Wood Chips. Uh, and Charlie and Jeremy and everybody there, man, they got that thing in and they actually called me and they're like, Well, we're thinking we're gonna have that done probably Monday at the latest. I said, Well, wait a minute, boys. We need we need to be putting water on the rave track. Like, and there's only a couple of lifts that'll pick up a heavy uh truck, like what the water truck is. Okay, so um, and Moffat's is one of those places here in the great state of Iowa that has one of those lifts to pick one of them suckers up. So uh they basically they had everything on hand uh and they called. So I was like, Oh, I gotta go out there and I'm we're doing some other work out there on some other projects for them. So I was like, I'll just jump in the water truck and take it out, take it back out to the speedway. And so I called Hank and he goes, Man, just be careful because the steering on that thing, well, there's nothing from nine o'clock to three o'clock. Right. Okay, and I ain't shitting you. And I so I get in this thing, it's an automatic, and I mean, this baby's purring, you know. I mean, it's just quiet, and I'm driving down the road and down highway 30, the not on highway 30, the frontage road, and I'm like trying to figure this thing out. Like, I'm going 20. I don't even know, I don't know how fast I'm going, but I feel like I'm going 25. But it feels like I'm drunker than 900 Indians because that thing is all over the road. I mean, I ain't shitty and I'm like, okay, just just bare knuckle it. I gotta go on highway 30 because instead of going clear around, right? So I'm like waiting and waiting. I'm hoping that the old blue boy isn't sitting somewhere because I mean there's no license plate on it, you know, and I'm like, all right. I get it on highway 30 and I'm scared because I mean you gotta stay with the flow of traffic right now. I mean, and I what an experience. What an experience that was.
SPEAKER_04I mean, elbows were up, but it wasn't going anywhere. The screen wheels just taking you where you want to go.
SPEAKER_03When I left the racetrack, I ended up hitting the chiropractor afterwards because the tranny shift in that thing. Boy, I'll tell you, it'll throw out your L1 and L3 real quick. But we got her back to the speedway, I think, Nate, and them were super happy we got that hot rod back there ready for them. So that it was nice. We we did get uh when we got a little bit of Mother Nature rain on uh Thursday night. Normally the boys start you know watering on Thursday, but uh the old truck was in the shop, so they weren't watering, but Mother Nature gave us that water, so yeah, helped out and uh the uh I saw the Snapchats, I was wondering what was going on. So uh yeah, uh it was uh it was I mean I had to throw it out there, you know. Like I do that because all the people that watch and pay attention, and yeah, I I I don't have anything to do with any of the decision making. I just really like to make it seem like I do.
SPEAKER_01I thought maybe Rod was putting you through uh a little class.
SPEAKER_03Uh that hasn't started yet. I've been signed up for the last two two years. Um and he never calls when he comes to town unless he just secretly shows up at the shop for a bush latte. It's usually when we're working on the car or whatever, but he'll swing in every once in a while and just see what us boys are doing over there at the den. But uh yeah, another little another little how you doing there on that deal. I'm telling you, it's just weird.
SPEAKER_04But well, yeah, you got got the water truck back safe and sound. And uh we'll go. You didn't need to call you didn't have to call Elmquest Tilling, so that was good.
SPEAKER_03That was good. I I mean Jake, I got him on speed dial. I didn't know like when I first got in it, and it would I I mean Hank wasn't really shitting that it, you know, the steering is a little janky in there. Like, I thought something was broke. You know, like it might be. I mean, it could be, yeah. I don't know, and I don't know how it has that much slop, but hats off to Nate for being able to rip that thing around the racetrack when it's slimy.
SPEAKER_04Right. So yeah, because I'm yeah, when when uh they're trying to do a quick one at Supernationals and he's got her pinned and scary, but I'm telling you. You can't go one foot like Brian Zemer on there. You gotta go two-footer to keep her on the racetrack. Correct. Um speaking of Elmquist towing, let's go to the question of the week. So the question was if you had to build a winning team of drivers, one from each class at Boone Speedway, who are you picking? And Josh, I know you did some, you broke this down, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um threw this into the old chat GPT machine, and pretty, I mean, not really a cross-the-board consensus, but a lot of Jeremy Mills, Jake McBurney in the mods, uh Jimmy Gustin. Uh, I think there was one guy that said Jimmy Gustin in every class. Um we had Jake Sackow, uh Will Smith, Braden Gifford, and Hobbies, and then Josh Mae and Brian Zim in the in the mod lights. Um and uh I was actually very curious, like what would your guys' picks be? Because I'm you know, I'm at this conference and we had a little downtime, so I made myself a list, I made myself an all-time list and then a current list. So you guys go you guys go for it. Or or do you want me to go? Because I have mine prepared.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you go ahead, kick it off.
SPEAKER_01Okay, well, and I'm a little sad that I can't see Jonathan's face, so when I get to do when I get to cut all the reels, I'll get to see it when I say all this. But I'll start with my all-time, uh, my all-time list, the mods, I gotta go with five time. I and I know Bill Davis was really close on that, but I just in my time at Boone, I saw John do things in a modified that I haven't seen anybody else do. So um I had to go with him. Stotcar. Uh I had to go with Steve Jackson. Um Steve was one that Steve was one that I watched um, you know, and learned how to run the bottom at Boone. So, and he just he was so successful there. My uh my all-time sport mod pick would be three-time. Uh I tell you, I you know, I did get to watch you race a sport mod a lot at Boone, and I just in my memory, and I'm maybe there's somebody else that maybe could get it, but I just remember. Like you'd roll on the track in that sport mod, and you were going to be the one to deal with most of the time. And you ran there every week. There were guys that would show up and could give you a tough time, like a Clint Llewellyn. You know, but I just for consistency and in the sport mods time at Boone, I think I had to go with you. Hobbystock might surprise some people on this one, but Damon Murray. Damon, when I started racing, he was kind of in his prime in the hobby, and that guy had his own line around the top at that place. And there were times where he would hang the right rear off the track and he would pass guys doing it. And I don't remember seeing anybody as fast. And I know he didn't win supernationals in a hobby. Um, if I had to go with that, it'd probably be Shannon Anderson, but just overall, I Damon was he was the guy. And then I had to call him dwarf cars, uh, Cliffy, Cliff Barber. Um Cliff just back in the day, he he was the first guy I ever saw start last in a feature and win it. And I remember thinking how crazy that was, you know, and then I got to see, you know, I've seen Ricky do it a few times, seen John do it at Supernationals, but yeah, Cliff got my attention back in the day for the dwarf cars. So then my current list, um, I don't need to spend a ton of time on these guys, but modified Jeremy, Jeremy Mills, um stock car right now, Jimmy Gustin. Like, dude's on fire. Uh Sport Mod is Jake Sackow. Uh Hobby, another one that's caught fire here recently. And I said last year, when this kid wins, look out, and it's Will Smith. And then uh my mod light pick is the guy that every time he shows up, he's trouble, and that's Dylan Rafferty.
SPEAKER_04Those are pretty solid. Those are pretty solid, bud. Yeah. I mean one, one couple other, like I said, it and I'm just trying to think here from yeah, man, you could go, it's hard to do that. Uh it's hard to because now my brain's racking, right? I'll over right.
SPEAKER_03Like I've been sitting here thinking, and like I almost need to just do my list right this second because I I'm like, or I'm gonna change my mind like ten times. Right. So I'm gonna kick off with my uh what'd you call it? Your all-time list.
SPEAKER_01All time, yep.
SPEAKER_03All time list. I'm gonna I'm gonna go ahead and agree with you just because it's my dad and he's my racing hero. Um, but and I got to endure and live in that time of his success. Um so my modified pick is my dad. My stock car pick. Um, and see, like I'm gonna I'm gonna go on a limb here and and uh use uh people that raced the Boon Speedway on a weekly deal when I was growing up, and Steve Jackson is that guy. Um just I mean, he was dirty, he was clean, he had like 23 nicknames. Who has 23 nicknames and isn't the king? For real. You know, Steve, the action jacks, uh, Mr. Excitement. Uh I mean, I I would really need to call Toby Cruz because I think he came up with all 17 of them. But like yeah, kill and it was I I mean I'm partial to that too because once I got old enough to go into the pits, I could see his crew guy and all the signals and shit that they did. I don't know what they were saying, but it was cool as shit. Um sport mods. Um, for me, I I'm I'm gonna disinclude myself from it um just because but I would have to say like my nostalgic growing up was Jason Malico because I was a part of that, or not a part of it, but my like I was around then, you know what I'm saying? Like I remember when we'd load up in the cube band, we'd break down every time, either on the way there or on the way home. Um but that was who I watched, you know, like was Jason. Yeah, and I got to watch him, you know, come from a hobby stock to a stock car to a sport mod and to win the supernationals and the national title in the same year. Like that was super cool, right? Um, and then for the hobby stocks for me is Shannon Anderson. Um dude, just good. Yeah, I mean, one of the all-time greats in my opinion. I might be a little biased because you know, him and Jeff won Supernationals and they're the father-son stock car hobby stock, and my dad and I are the stock car or the modified sport mod. Um, and then for me, for the dwarf cars, it was Jason Tauppenberg. Yes, the deuce. Yeah, um, he was my favorite car. Well, yeah, he was my favorite racer because he was he was good, right? Cliff Barber, I like I feel like they were rivals because Cliff was so good, right? Both great, great people, but I'd have to say my favorite bodied style mod light was the old mad dog Jim Cooper in the zero because he I don't know what it was, it looked like the little gravedigger. Uh-huh. Um so you know, like right on. And if you guys want me to bust out the Thunder card, you know, all time, I mean, I could do that too, but not a lot of people know about the thunder cars. But I grew up with thunder cars and it was RC Adams. Uh-huh. Okay. Just because he rented my grandma grandparents' place and I could check the car out. Yeah. But my current list um for the Boone Speedway is I'm I'm saying Jeremy Mills, too, because he's just been he's been so dominant there, been so good. Um, and not just not just partial the year. I mean, he's been good there the last three years that he's been racing there. Been really good, been one of the top-tier drivers to to win, and he's been consistently in that top four, even though he'll give you a dirty ray every once in a while because he's driving so hard. I mean, the dickhead still owes me a hood and a door and a f uh quarter panel. Um, but you know, you know what I'm saying? Like he's just he so Jeremy, and I've known Jeremy for a long time, and so my modified pick is Jeremy Mills' stock car pick. I'm gonna disinclude myself from this as well. Um, but uh I think my top pick right now on that is is Jimmy, and I'm not saying that because but Jimmy's my other hero. Um, I did, I don't know if you guys have seen this or not, but Saturday in hot laps, I blew every chunk of lettering off of that thing because we started side by side, and we were getting we were fixing to blow Jeff's fireball. Did you guys see Jeff Mueller's fireball car? That's cool. Old nostalgic, like throwback thing. The only thing I'm pissed about is the throwback car had the flames on the hood and the nose. Jeff did not do that. But Jimmy and I, we we were getting ready to blow his lettering off, and then ended up just Jim and I racing together. But uh hobby stocks for me. Um I'm I'm thinking that uh it's I I can't say Will Smith because he's only won two races. Okay. Now you asked me this, and and and that's not a jab, Will, either.
SPEAKER_04I'm just saying like earn it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, right. And he is doing that. He is doing that. But I think that uh his one of his biggest competitors is is uh Braden Gifford. Um he's really sharpened up this year. Uh the last couple years is really sharpened up. So I'm gonna go with Braden Richards, or Richards, sorry, Braden, Braden Gifford uh for the hobby stocks, and then the mod lights. I'm going with B Z. Peg leg. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Uh I mean Oh, hey, speaking of that, did you you guys saw the message that Craig Carlson sent? Oh, yeah. And he said, I've I've been the original peg leg since 1990. Yes. So he did Craig chiming in, and he said he listens and watches to all of our shows.
SPEAKER_03It's so awesome for my whole life. I did not, well, my whole time of him racing, he raced, he's right, Craig's raced for a long, long time. Great guy. Tough to pass because he's just been doing it forever. Right. Fun to race with. Yeah. I'm not sure how old Craig is getting, but I did not know for the longest time that he had a fake leg.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So put that into perspective, people. Right. Get out there with a fake leg, strap into one of these babies and go out there and done. And Craig's had a lot of success over the years, always a consistent car, always has a nice looking car. Um, and him and Dorothy put a ton of time into that, and that's just what they love. It's nostalgic. They are so, such good people. Like, I feel bad when I talk to Craig because he's he talks real quiet. Hey, John. And you can't hear anything in here. I'm always like, what? Why's Craig? You know, like and I feel like I'm yelling at him, you know. But uh a lot of respect for the old 77C.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but I just thought it was cool that he chimed in and he's having fun with it too. And he said, Oh, hang on, boys.
SPEAKER_03I'm the original people, don't make me pull this sucker out and show you because I'll nub you. You know. What?
SPEAKER_02Well, I'm just serious.
SPEAKER_03I mean, my grandpa, my grandpa uh musser has uh had a fake, you know, he had his leg cut off to diabetes, and uh he had a leg and stuff, and he actually had that sucker wrapped with one of my t-shirts and shit. You know, like they're titanium. So don't ever let one hit hit you with it.
SPEAKER_04Uh-huh. Yeah, you got that thing up at the shop. Oh, it's at the shop.
SPEAKER_03I might bring it up here. Yeah, there you go. That'd be so easy.
SPEAKER_04Uh go to man, my ADD is so bad right now. Right.
SPEAKER_02It's because you're looking at that goddamn computer screen.
SPEAKER_04Well, no, I'm thinking of my.
SPEAKER_02It's time for you to pick your list because I did mine.
SPEAKER_04I know. And my uh my ADD is going off the rails right now. But uh the easy one is John Logue, right? Like um, he just owned the modified class for a long time. Um and I never really watched Denny Pittman when he was dominant back in the day. Um or Kent Kaplan, like those guys were before my time. Right. You know, when I was old, before I was old enough to realize. But, you know, John obviously growing up and hanging out with you and being around that forever. John John was the guy. Um stock cars, uh you know, I would normally go Steve Jackson, but I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna button hook you. I'm gonna go uh Larry Silbaugh.
SPEAKER_01I knew it. I knew it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Yeah, Larry Silbaugh was was always fun to watch. Um when he had the Budweiser 21 car, and uh I always I always made it you'd wear those shirt, you know, the shirts to school, and because they had the Budweiser logos on them, they made you turn them inside out. Right, right. Yeah, so between between the the Larry Silbod t-shirts and the in the Haina Brothers t-shirts back in the day, I had to had to carry double t-shirts in my backpack. But uh man. Going uh sport mods, you know, obviously um Jason being part of that, but I'm I'm gonna go. God, there's a toss-up though. Well, what's the toss-up? Luke Waniger and Kevin Sather. That's three, bud. I know, but I have to disinclude Jason. You have totally disin.
SPEAKER_02You just got you just got, bud, Thanksgiving.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. No. Well, you already you already said Jason. So but yeah, you already said John, my dad. No, I know. But that one's yeah, that one's I forgot about.
SPEAKER_03I mean, that's I mean, but still, like my I'm I'm talking nostalgic like when we were kids. Right. Like that's when my nostalgic to me is so Luke Wanager and stuff, Luke was good, Kevin's good. Yeah, I'm not saying that, but them fuckers are lucky that I wasn't right.
SPEAKER_04Uh yeah, hobby stocks, like I said, Shannon Anderson, the Shannon Anderson, Andy uh Macman, Chris Jensen.
SPEAKER_03Yes, dude, the old the old double dudes. See, I forgot about the map. Well, this is what I'm saying. My my uh Shaffer E.
SPEAKER_04Brown, like man, we really loaded ourselves with that because there's I needed time to prepare because my squirrel brain is just like it's like a hamster in a cage right now, just going rampant, and Josh is sitting there drinking his water, just loving it. So he gets to deal with those. Damn right. Um, yeah, dwarf cars, Jason Toppenberg, for sure. I still have one of his little uh he used to have those little trading cards, and uh, I'm pretty sure I still have a stack of them things somewhere, but and it's weird because like it's one of those deals where like you're a little kid, these people are you know, they're larger than life. And Jason Toppenberg was one of those dudes for me, and then get to, you know, as you become an adult and you're like, man, this guy's just a regular dude, he's really cool.
SPEAKER_03Him and his dad are awesome, cleanest like OCD'd car you've ever seen in your life.
SPEAKER_04Right. Right. And like, but I still have some of those autograph cards, and you know, and and you know, now I can text him and be like, hey, what's going on? Whatever. You know, it's just in and with most of these guys, right? Um, so yeah, did I forget? Oh, hot, no way. Did I get all of them?
SPEAKER_03You got them all, bud.
SPEAKER_04I I got your all too. You're on you're on to current. Oh, current. Cowboy Ray for mods, he's just been on a tear the last couple years. Um Jimmy Gustin. I would say um, no, I'm just gonna because now I'm doing the thing again. Quit thinking. Right. You're on the sport mods, yeah. Uh sport mods, Jake Socco. Um, he's just who did I say for sport mods? Did you even say anybody? I don't think I said anybody for sport mods, dude, because I disincluded myself. That was no, that was sport mods anymore. Uh Socco's just that's my pick. That's my pick.
SPEAKER_03If I would have been Jake's crew chief, he'd never lost a race.
SPEAKER_05I'll just go ahead and say that. He's always looking for me.
SPEAKER_03He's always looking for me for signals and shit's. I mean, he's he's actually the he's he's lucky I moved up because he wouldn't even be winning races at Boone if I didn't.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Um what else do I got here? I got three hobbies. Uh man, I'm gonna go Eric Knutson.
SPEAKER_03He's been master and shit, too. He's been he's always good. Anywhere he goes.
SPEAKER_04Super Eric Knutsen and then uh mod lights. I'm still gonna go with Austin Gray. Are you? Yeah, he's had two DNFs. I know, but uh yeah. Mechanical failures. Hey, yeah, but he's been up front when he breaks. Yeah, that's true.
SPEAKER_03That's true. So right on. Yeah, that's that was a great Elmquest towing question of the week. It was loaded as shit. But uh thanks everyone for doing an engagement on that.
SPEAKER_04Um, also looking at this, uh speaking of you guys hot laughing together, did you see Ian's drone video? Who did you see? I did.
SPEAKER_03Such a badass thing.
SPEAKER_04Right, that was super cool. Um, he's like doing flips and turns and twists through the air, and then he's like coming back on top of the cars, and it's really cool. Nice work, Ian. You're yeah, nice work. Yeah, very good. Um, yeah, there's Jim and Bob Cat. Yeah, anyway, you gotta stop looking at it. It was a great, it was a great, great, great. Um Josh, I did want to make a comment. That is a very nice lamp you have behind you.
SPEAKER_01You like that?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's pretty sweet.
SPEAKER_01Well, they put me up in a Hyatt, a Hyatt Regency or Hyatt something. So, yeah. Not quite the Ritz Carlton, but just a step underneath. Yeah. Um, it's pretty nice. Uh got to listen to uh airplanes taking off all night last night. I wasn't quite used to that. But well we see how tonight treats us.
SPEAKER_04They've they've stopped, they were doing a training course at the fire station right across the street from us. Yeah. And they had the the big cut wheel, you know, when they try to practice cutting into buildings and whatever else. Yeah, locked doors and shit. Yeah, they had this whole deal going, and before we got started, I'm like, man, this is not gonna be good. I'm recording. So I called in a noise complaint.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you called Justin and about 10 minutes later, we see them all looking around like somebody was watching them and they put the they put the unit away. I don't know if old Justin Adams uh called in and said that uh the Boom PD was coming up there to file a noise complaint or not, but uh the old Boone fire department staying up on their training. I appreciate that in case I ever need them.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, for sure. And uh I saw Justin out here. He was like, I'll come up there and do a fire and fire inspection whenever he just wants to come up here and see if we got snack.
SPEAKER_05I know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But uh Hey uh little birdie said something about another unboxing.
SPEAKER_04We have two. We got two uh this week. So do you want to wait to do that when you till you get it?
SPEAKER_03I say we wait until we do it. I say we wait and do it when Josh is here. It's gotta be uh, you know, we're gonna for a week. Or we do one now and we do one when Josh gets here.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we can do. Do you want to do this one? That one's the SCE one. Well, we don't even have a knife because Josh isn't here.
SPEAKER_03He didn't bring the Boy Scouts. Oh, yeah. Let's just wait till Josh gets here. Yeah, then we'll do two.
SPEAKER_04So just till um so we got one from SCE gaskets because Jim came up and hung out with us the one week weekend, and then we got another big box, and it's got some stuff in it. Because I when I picked it up, I could hear metal clanging around and some other stuff. So I'm not sure, but it was from B. So Andrea McCain had sent us something from B B, so I'm extremely excited to open these up because but we're not gonna, we're not, we don't want to spoil it, we want to make sure every Josh is here to do all that, right?
SPEAKER_01Well, boys, I gotta tell you, I messaged with Andrea a little bit when I saw that label. I sent a picture of it to her and I said, Did you have something to do with this? And she said she might have. And then uh we got to talking, and it sounds like there might be another package coming, but Bobcat has to wear whatever she sends.
SPEAKER_04Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01Okay. I don't know what that means. I don't know what that means. I guess we'll see.
SPEAKER_05It's alright, I'll do it.
SPEAKER_01I think that's why she said it, because she knew you would.
SPEAKER_03Oh, that's but anyway, better him than us. Better him than us.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you wouldn't say that, but yeah, it'll just be like better me or better you guys than me on the old ass tattoo.
SPEAKER_04Whenever we get around to that. But uh well, I don't have anything else on this one, and uh yeah.
SPEAKER_03We'll march on. We're not gonna do a giveaway this week. Uh or are we gonna do a giveaway? We're gonna do a giveaway. I mean, we can't we we don't we're not gonna do a giveaway this week. We're gonna do a two last week. We did two last week. We're gonna we're gonna we're gonna sh sharpen that in a little bit and just
SPEAKER_04We're kind of going on the fly this week. Josh is gone. Garrett's gone. Right. We're just trying to make sure this whole thing works. Right. So I mean, it could be totally messed up.
SPEAKER_03We don't even know. We just sit up here for this last hour and a half. I mean, I'm just saying. I don't know how to run the shit, but you guys do. But apparently it's working. It appears to be working. So that's all that matters, is that it appears to be working. So um but with that being said, I say we close it out here. Yep. We want to thank all of our great marketing sponsors. Uh everyone involved, uh, everyone, all the awesome feedback uh last night in the tech area in the stock cars. I had a ton of guys, you know, appreciating the podcast, and that means a lot to me. Uh means a lot to all of us here at the watermelons and wood chips. And uh man, I uh we appreciate the listens, we appreciate the follows. Um we really appreciate the packages coming in.
SPEAKER_04I didn't think I had another guy, but I don't know. I don't know if it was the one of the guys that you talked to before, um, but there was a guy down in the infield, he goes, Hey, I my wife and I have an apparel company where something's we sent. He messaged me.
SPEAKER_03Okay, yeah, he messaged me, and I was just kind of waiting to see when it, you know, because he said that they were gonna send some stuff. Yeah, and I love surprises. So I'm like, I'm just not even gonna say nothing to the boys and see what happens because usually we're pretty transparent with all that. But he said he was gonna send some t-shirts, so I thought, okay, it's it's harmless. Yeah, it might not be, right? But I feel like it's pretty pretty harmless. So I I mean, honestly, it's not that I didn't want to tell you guys, I completely forgot that he messaged me because I have like 10,000 messages, right, you know, all the time.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, I I forgot.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, good thing he brought that up.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he was like, I send some stuff to you and I'm like, all right, all right. Yeah, so um no, we really appreciate that. And then um, you know, like I said, um we we're gonna work on the the backdrop. We got the arrow wheels from Kelly to to get put up in the background here, and some we got some door panels and all kinds of stuff to to get I've been slowly working on trying to get it organized. Yeah, it looks good in here. So um, but uh I want to thank Central Iowa Diesel of Performance first and foremost. Jed and those guys have been incredible um and I think they're having fun being a part of it too. Um Elmquist Towing, obviously. Um Jake, you talked to Jake earlier and Jonathan was on the phone. He's like, Well, you're on the podcast right now, and he's like, I better not be. But uh, you know, Moffat's Ford, Adobe Lounge, um, Housebe Truck Lube. We're gonna have to get Garrett's gonna slide a read in there for those guys. They got a uh they got a promo going on right now. Um 18% off um presented by KCP Racing because that group that owns uh Huzz Housebe Truck Lube also owns the um KCP Sprint car that Sheldon Hoddenschild drives on Board of Outlaws. Nice. So that's badass. Yeah, get out there and support that people. So you can uh check it out. You can get an 18% discount on your truck and trailer service at Housebe Truck Lube. Um if you uh you know you mention that you're a racer or whatever, or mention the KCP racing deal. So um, yeah, just uh who else am I forgetting? I think just us. Yeah, well it's just us. Right. We're here. Yeah. So I dust. I am gonna do I will do, I I gotta get it worked up, but um, I am gonna do uh some sort of a deal on tents through the podcast. But I got it, and I talked to Josh about it um a couple weeks ago, just haven't quite gotten to it yet. Just been super busy on some stuff. I want to make sure it's right when we do it. So um, so that'll be coming too in the future with P1P. So but other than that, like I said, I just want to make sure we're not forgetting anybody. I think we got them all, Adobe. Um so yeah. No, on that, I'm good if you're good. Are you good over there in uh at the Ritz Carlton, bud?
SPEAKER_01You got it, bud.
SPEAKER_03He got back to the delay over there. Yeah. Weather come in on him. Yeah. But uh that's it, bud. We're gonna close it down here. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages, you've been watching watermelons and wood chips.
