Welcome, Rose Bull. Watermelons and Wood Chips presented by Central Iowa Diesel Performance Episode 33. And uh we all had a lot of stuff going on today. Josh had a uh graduation open house he was hosting, and uh we all had some Mother's Day activities, so we're all just uh we're going remote trying something different. Garrett wanted to try, so here we are.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we had to meet up like this because you know, Garrett, he just he comes in out from the Serengeti and uh you know gets in here for about 24 hours, has a birthday. You know, I I think he turned 24, 25 today, something like that. And uh yeah, back to the Serengeti again tomorrow, and then sounds like maybe after another week we might get him back for some regular time.

SPEAKER_12

I seen some pretty wild stuff of him. I didn't know if we were gonna see him again. Did you guys see the Snapchat? I saw the I saw the car ride. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, weird.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, very weird. That thing was cruising, it took off. It was cruising right down the road.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah, I mean, that's what I'm saying. I mean, how do you know that somebody's just not gonna secretly press like control alt delete and like you're gonna take a right hand turn and just like wipe out?

SPEAKER_02

Well, I didn't know, you know, you never know. Some of you never some of those drivers, I didn't know if he was built like Tyler Pickett. Like he just he was in the seat, but you couldn't quite tell he was there. But then he he moved the camera a little bit and you could see uh there was no one there.

SPEAKER_12

So yeah. That's the future, boys. No that that's what stock car racing might look like here in 2080. That'd be something, wouldn't it? Uh what is would that be? How many years from now?

SPEAKER_02

Uh it'd be about um yeah 53. 54. 50, yeah, 54, 53, yep.

SPEAKER_12

I'll be uh not alive then.

SPEAKER_02

Same. Cody will all that clean all that clean living going and sitting in the sauna, he'll he'll still be around.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah, right. He'll look like ET. Um although what a what a wild week. Um got a lot to talk about uh this week here on the podcast. Went and did some racing uh Thursday night up at the old Thunderdome. Classooth Trophy Hunter. Yeah. We uh just went up there. We uh I heard a motor the night that we won at Boone. Don't know what's going on. Don't know if I heard it, but got something going on with it. So we put our other engine in, um, mid-states machine unit, and uh decided just to go up there. I always like to go up there and uh race, you know, a couple times a year. And uh they got a new track promoter up there this year. I got for the life of me, I can't remember his name, but he was cruising around kissing babies, signing autographs all night. And uh, you know, the track when we got there looked awesome. Uh, I think they have one of the coolest track packers, you know, the old uh uh LP tank with the old sign on it and stuff. Yeah, is that thing full of concrete? I have no idea, but it's huge. It is awesome. It looks huge on the racetrack. And so we pulled in uh on the south side there by the museum sign and parked right there. It's super nice. We can just kind of skedaddle out of there. Don't know you know all the pit parking there, but uh they got a lot of cool stuff going on up there, building a new concession stand, ticket booth. Um they didn't have MRP working or something, something happened was what I was how I understand it. They got some new guardrail up, they've put dirt on the racetrack. Um the racetrack uh was definitely one lane-y towards the end of the night. Um, but the heat races, it was pretty racy um until it wasn't. And I think that uh his goal was you know, smooth and no holes. And let me tell you, that is they they nailed that um for putting new dirt on. Um I think that they had a good racetrack at the beginning of the night, and it just transitioned into back to the Algona, you know, the the kind of the reputation that it's had here the last few years. But I am very optimistic. They had 91 cars, um, which on a Thursday night season opener, uh, very, very cool. Um so I think that the further into the season here, they're gonna they're gonna get better and better at what they're doing. It seems like they got a pretty good crew there. Everybody seems pumped up. Even the guy on the back stretch that's usually grumpy and everything. He was smiling and having a good time. So he's a good dude. He's just a grumpy fucker. So um but uh he was even pumped up. I didn't even see him shoot anybody's ass all night, so it was like that that was a good thing. So had a great experience up there. We ended up picking up the win. Uh uh, yeah. We just, I mean, we started second row inside, and me and that the gentleman, the 43 car Lang, I don't know what his first name is. I think maybe Chris or Calvin Lang. We just kind of raced, and I just was like, just don't run into him, you know. We're we're the two lead cars. And uh he just kind of he overshot the one and two there, and I just went in a little bit slower than he did and didn't miss the bottom and got beside him. And I thought the entire time the three car, you know, and Derek Green was there. Uh them guys are really good up there. It's they're you know, Kelly's home track. And um however, I did give him some shit when I got there. Like, well, not him, but Ryan, his crew guy, Bacon, is what I call him. I was he's like, Wait, what are you doing? You lost up here? And I'm like, no, I'm coming up here to race you guys, you know, giving him shit. So of course the heat race, Kelly starts behind me, and we're in staging, and brand new car, nose, the whole shit. He comes right up and parks his bumper underneath of my ass, picks the back of the car up, and I'm like, all right, it's on now. Like, no, no mess around. And he literally sucked the wrap off of my left side of my car when he went by me. And I'm just like, you know, he came over after the feature and congratulated me and shit. And I uh him and him and the uh Machane, that 517 kind of got together and Kelly was almost, you know, sideways down the back stretch. And I thought, oh great, here we go. I hope, you know, it was just a racing deal, but uh brand new car. It gives you, you know, it gives you the e bjeebies, you know, and but um all in all.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I gotta ask Kelly that he's doing his own deal now for his stock car, right? Because he was driving for Lake Mills.

SPEAKER_12

Yep. Yeah, they made a big post. They made a big post about it uh on their Skyrocket page there and stuff, show revealing the car and everything. And you know, Kelly's gonna do what Kelly's done for years and and race and and go win races and um you know build build race cars, and he's got a great customer base that follows him and and supports him, and and that's just what he's done for a long time. So uh, you know, you hate to see those partnerships come to an end, you know, and but at the same time, it's I think it you know may have opened up some other opportunities for some other drivers and stuff, you know. And Kelly's had a you know a wonderful career over the years, and and uh now it's kind of a new, you know, it's kind of a new beginning for him too, in a way, you know, like he's doing his own thing and not buying cars and and and you know putting his own little tweak on him. Now he's actually doing it. So uh best of luck to to that whole situation and and everybody'll you know certainly comment on the results of that here in the near future come summer. Yeah, for sure.

SPEAKER_07

And then uh you guys went you go to Motown, right?

SPEAKER_12

Yeah, yeah. So uh uh Katie and I and sis were the only ones that went up to to uh Algona and you know we win, we're on the way home, and it's like well, we might as well go, you know, might as well, you know, the girls kind of talked me into it, so we come back the next day and and didn't have to really do whole much to the car, you know, and changed the gear and and uh went over to Marshtown and we just kind of we were we were decent in the heat race um and just sucked in the feature. Um I yeah I just was terrible. And then uh I had a little motor issue, so that's why I pulled off and I was just in the way. Kyle Olson, I was holding him up. Sorry, Kyle, he was beating the shit out of my bumper because I was in her in the corner corner like a pussy, and I just I just wasn't good, you know. And it just it was just so weird because you know, you you go from having such a great night the night before to just literally coming home, changing the gear, cleaning up the tires, getting them ready to go, and we go over to Marshtown, you know, and you we we've had a lot of good momentum lately, and a lot of uh a lot of racers can relate to this. When you have that good momentum and you're feeling good about it, and your car's good and it's working good, and you're you're able to avoid wrecks and just have yourself in position to be able to win races. Might not always be the fastest car out there, but if you're at least in the position, you want to go race because you know you're it it feels good, it's fun, it's it's always fun, but it just makes it that much funner, you know. So and we come home and uh you know really hung my head. I mean, we started 12th and just really didn't go anywhere. Um went backwards, and we just kind of hung out there and I smoked the right rear tire, just trying to drive the car different ways, different, you know, top, bottom, middle, across. It was just a very weird racetrack. And we come home and we start tearing stuff apart, and it, you know, it was I overran the limits of the bushings. Uh, we found some torn bushings, and you know, that's that's literally all we found. Um and uh we put it back together and clean our tires up again for Saturday and come back Saturday, you know. And I plumbed flat ass run over Sam West going into turn three. You thought I had him cleared when we went down into one and two and didn't see him until the last minute and got out of the gas and was just in a complete four-wheel spot slide, expecting to just loop it and you know, and we actually got hooked together. And I just let out of the gas and we unhooked and we took off. And man, it's just I don't I don't race that way. I I race hard and rubbing and stuff and everything, and not only to a customer, but Sam's just a good kid, you know, and and it it's his it's his rookie year, and he's anxious and he's out of control. And Friday night he did an absolute domination in his heat race. And it was just like the excitement, the you know, the he was kind of, I mean, he's kind of been in some, you know, little fender benders and stuff with the car, and it's a brand new car. And I like I've just been like, be patient, bud. It'll come, it'll come. And Friday night we got to see that moment with him, uh, you know, picking up that heat race win and you know, really kicking their ass. And uh so to go out there and do that to him, I'm like, oh man, I go down in the infield, you know, for the tech. And so then I we leave, and I just I go right over there, and he's got the whole front end tore off, you know, and he's like, Oh, it's all right, you know, and I'm like, I know, but god dang it, I don't race that way, you know. And so we fixed him, fixed some of the stuff back up, and he was kind of he was pulling up winching on the bumper. He'd apparently he'd asshole somebody right before that and knocked the whole bumper piece in and the radiator bar in, and uh helped him fix his fender, and the girls Adley and Jennifer come down and got a fender mount because he forgot to grab the fender mount. And uh yeah, we uh get the car ready, we come in, and the thing was just running really weird. Um Matt came over and we were talking about that new airflow system we got going on in the air cleaner area, and uh he re hit like I was telling him, something you know, something seemed funky about the motor and stuff, and um we were standing there and he was just feeling the plug wires, and that sucker electrocuted the shit out of him. And I mean he joked, you know, I mean he did I mean it scared me, it scared me because he's he's he screamed so loud. And uh we changed the spark plug wires and went out in the feature. We started eighth and we drove up to fourth, and uh we didn't tear nothing up. We had a little fender.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, me too.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I thought so also. I think if that wouldn't have happened, I think you had a shot. I mean you're it kind of killed your momentum and then you had to catch back up, but I mean honestly though, like for the the dudes that were in that race and and you were ripping around the top there, and you even you tried the bottom for a little while.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah. Um we it just kevin just got in and it it looked like to me he just he went in about a lane below of of where like the crummy, grippy, you know, or it's not really a cushion, it was it was just shit that wasn't like super slick, you know? Yeah and uh yeah, I thought I was KO and him, but yeah, we then I'm like shit. Well, so then I was it actually made me better because at first, like I said, that stuff doesn't look like it's anything up there, and I don't know, for whatever reason, it it's there. And so I started driving just driving the car a little bit harder, and uh the car was coming and coming and coming. I was a little tight at the beginning, and I think that hurt me. And uh, but all in all, I'll take it. Um the motor ran a lot better. Um it seemed even after the race, it you know, where it was kind of stumbly before my I had to mess with my float a little bit after the hot or after heat race, it was a little bit low, which is like once again, it's just so right there, so weird because we went on Thursday, run decent on Friday, and you know, and then come Saturday, we're back to doing this. And John Davis calls him, answers the phone, walks you through whatever you need. I mean, it's just him and Andy, they're there, so that's why I run mid, you know, mid-state motors, and um they've been great, and so we go out and we run good and um just kind of regroup here and don't really know what the plan is next for the old 69 ride.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, I gotta ask, on that float level deal, so at Algona, longer straightaways, bigger track, you'd think your float if your float levels messed up, it would show its face there over boon, wouldn't you think?

SPEAKER_12

Well, and that's that's exactly you know what I thought. I mean, we literally the the engines that I got, we literally took everything off of the the one engine that was in the car um and put it on the engine that is now in the car. And I mean, this is the I put this brand new mid-states in at Supernationals. And uh I had I had just had some shitty luck with some with some cams and you know, just shit happens, and that was why we took the motor out originally and put this new one in at Nationals, and it was flawless. I mean, that was when we really knew there was something going on with that other motor, and we just weren't quite sure. It was still running good, but it just there was something wrong with it. And John took it down there and found something that was broke inside the block, and so we put a new block on it, and that's uh why we put this in. I wanted to make sure that that's you know, that that's what fixed the problem, and and uh yeah, I I have I have no idea why. Like and the the motor ran good on the racetrack, and it was just when it was in the pit area, like it just you know seemed like it was starving for fuel, which is weird because the other motor didn't do that. So, so I thought, okay, well, maybe something in travels, or maybe I sucked a piece of dirt or something in there, you know, so we do the whole thing, you know, you pull it apart and everything seems fine. And um yeah, I I don't I'm not really sure to be honest with you, but tell you what, this is why also John Davis is one of the best motor builders in the business, is because he has a chassis dyno, and I've been scheduled to go down there and run on the chassis dyno just because it's a couple hundred dollars and it tells you if your stuff is running correctly. So um I if you are a racer and you are not doing that or going to a chassis dino once a year instead of going to the racetrack like the seven car. Not I don't know of this guy, I love the hobby stock guy. Um, you guys know who I'm talking about? The number seven Budweiser guy? Yeah, yeah. Buddy, I love your race car. It is the coolest, one of the coolest race cars on the racetrack just because of how nostalgic it looks. That thing runs like shit. Spend the 200 bucks. It will, I mean, you know, by the time you get a pit pass and you know you're going out there and you're you're struggling because the engine's not running right, and uh the the efforts of trying to figure out on your own is awesome, but for a couple hundred dollars, you can save yourself so much more money and so much more time and other people's money and equipment by just scheduling it up. And you know, it doesn't have to be John Davis, just if if you're close to Des Moines, use John Davis. He's good, he's he's a racer, he's just like us. Um and and you know, I know Brian Blessington, I believe, has one and stuff. So there's there's many options out there and utilize those tools. That is what can really change your program around. Well, then you're not wasting nights too. Well, that's what I'm saying. Like you're you're you have the whole expense, you think about it like when we went to Algonha the other night, it was basically 150 bucks in fuel. And it was $30 pit passes. So we're 90 bucks there. You know, so I'm what's oh gosh, what is that?

SPEAKER_02

240.

SPEAKER_12

240 in just to get there and to get into the gate before I even drop the trailer door. Not bitching about the expense. I'm just saying right there, just to go to the racetrack, and then to be uncertain if your race car is not running correctly, or maybe you have like one time shit. I had a clutch, uh, the clutch discs broke, they just cracked. We were terrible in the heat races and shit. Come feature time when the racetrack was slow. I couldn't spin a tire because my clutches and stuff were slipping and weren't, you know, like we were killer. Couldn't figure out, couldn't figure it out when. Of John Davis's boom, bam. He's like, something's going on because we could hear it. You know? So um save the money, go to the chassis dyno, then go to the racetrack and save yourself money. And well, you know, sometimes usually when your shit's not running right, like okay, Hunter Longnecker, prime example, their race program, engine program, and everything is phenomenal. Second to none. They run the best stuff. Jeff, the guy that builds their stuff down at Carl's, awesome dude, builds great stuff. He goes out for hot laps Saturday. First corner. I mean, it's popping, banging, bloody uh all kinds of shit. You know, thank God he didn't tear anything up. Shit happens. We get it. But you know what I'm saying? Just the the the preventive maintenance is is a huge, huge thing when it comes to that chassis dino stuff. You're not tearing other people's race cars up either.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. My brother, so my brother came from the motocross world and he always used to it it drove him crazy that I would go race without practicing. He's like, you need to find somewhere to practice. So really that is in our world, a chassis dyno is a form of a practice that that can help you uh you know figure that stuff out. And it wasn't something we had back in the day. But um, yeah, and John's great, you know, he's he's one that he'll put hands on any car to try to figure it out, and you know, he's seen a lot, just like Brian Blessington. They have seen just about everything you can imagine, and you put something on their dyno, they're gonna they're gonna know what the hell's going on. Pretty, you know, pretty good idea anyway.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. For sure. Well, should we go through some results um from Saturday? So um CarQuest, I am saying mod lights. Um that was I mean, that was a banger of a feature. Uh Corey Sautner was up there for a long time. And uh you could see the bottom start to get slicked off a little bit, where he'd have to kind of chase the car a little bit, or just have to wait on getting back on the gas. Um, and then here comes Ben George just creeping around the top, and then he kind of got door to door with him and run the middle and ended up getting that. I think he ended up leading the white flag lap um on that deal. So uh good to see. I mean, I like I said, I was expecting, I was waiting for Corey to to win that thing and be down there and hugging everybody and and throwing high fives and fist bumps and maybe do a backflip or something.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, there have been all kinds of stuff. I mean Corey's Corey's what I call a dude. Like Cory's a great guy. Yeah, but I tell you what, Ben, Ben, when he checked in, he leaned in the window and he goes, Josh, I didn't know you used to run a jetter truck. Well, I I guess I talked about it on the last podcast. I said, Well, yeah, I did for years. And he's like, Oh man, you know, so we got this connection. So I'm gonna tell him next week, like, hey, bud, it's a jitter truck connection, got you in the picture.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. But no, it's cool. Like, Ben's a Ben's a guy that you know I've seen since he started and just progressed and got better and better, and now he's like one of the fastest dudes. Um, and not a nicer guy, you know. He's he's awesome. And uh that when I was saving out the nice guy? No, he is a nice, he's super nice guy. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. And down in the Enfield after I did it. No, no, he's a great, he's a great guy. But I interviewed him and then the 4G.

SPEAKER_12

The 4G, dude, he was hauling ass in the heat race on the top and about. I thought he was gonna smoke the wall off of turn two every lap.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. Yeah, he was ripping and uh he leans in after the interview, and he's like, You guys are gonna give me a shout-out on the podcast, are you? I'm like, oh yeah, we'll talk about it.

SPEAKER_02

Good job, Kyle Larson.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, basically, Kyle Larson says on the back of this card. Basically, basically Ben George wins from eighth. Corey Sonner uh gets second. Austin Gray goes third, Josh May fourth, Riley Clem fifth. BZ was up there in the mix. He started twelfth, um, worked his way up to sixth. Trayson Glick um went a plus twelve. He was the hard charger, um, which was was cool. But one uh one guy I want to bring up, which I thought was pretty awesome. I watched him in his B main after he he started on the pin of the heat race and went in there and uh I asked him, I said, we need to tie that thing up so you don't step on it in this B main, but was Landon Elliott. And uh so he went out and man, he was he did a really good job in the B. Um and then started 23rd in the feature and got 12th. So um I think that was probably that was the first full race that he's put together and finished. So for him to get all of his laps and and pass 11 cars, and you know, whether he passed them or there was some attrition in that race as well.

SPEAKER_12

So yeah, but it's just getting the experience in that in that little bit quicker car, a little bit different tire. I told Brian the other night at the choir concert to loosen the thing up so he could turn it and shit, you know. They're they're acting like he's you know Steve Kenzer or something, then he can handle it right away, you know. And it's like, bud, kids 14 years old, you know, like and and you know I understand, and and I think they'll they'll do a great job at that. And uh everybody involved with that deal's, you know, their racers been around it, and and uh although I do think that Brian might stroke out, so it's a good thing that he stands next to the ambulance while he's racing.

SPEAKER_07

I know. So uh Haley coaches a softball team with Eric's wife Lexi. So I we were down there with him Saturday watching the softball games, and then saw Eric Saturday, and I was chuckling because he was just uh you could see him pacing back and forth, you know, and like so but uh um and Colby Colby Oberham, man, that he took a digger, man. Yep.

SPEAKER_10

There was a couple of holy shit moments on Saturday holy shit. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_12

I mean that yeah, the mod lights it's like you know, they they they tumble so fast, you know. But yeah, that hobby stock, boys.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. Um when we when we get to the mayhem, we're gonna have plenty of it.

SPEAKER_12

I yeah, I'm just saying, holy shit.

SPEAKER_07

For sure. Well, let's move on to the sport mods. First a Mikey Smith and uh Matt Avla just throwing haymakers and and had a heck of a race there. Yeah, and uh kind of the same thing. You could see Matt like had to wait on it a little bit more, it looked like, towards the end of the end of the race. And I don't know if that's what you saw, I guess. I know you guys wrench on that thing, but look like to me he he couldn't jump back on the gas quite as fast at the end. I think the racetrack just was changing, right?

SPEAKER_12

And that that new air deflection was really costing him that right there on entry. Yeah. Um we're having just a little bit of turbulence, and and it it really showed that. I mean, he had an absolute uh awesome, awesome race Friday night at Marshtown picking up the win over there. Um great, great race. I mean, he he did an excellent, excellent job. And so uh yeah, the new air system just didn't really work there. And and uh he was still able to come out with a top three, and you know, one of them deals, Mikey's Mikey's been really good. And however, I mean it's what'd you say?

SPEAKER_09

What?

SPEAKER_07

Oh, I forgot that uh Caleb Wood Woodard actually finished second, but I think uh they said his his rev box was doing the remember when it was like when those guys were having the problems with those things go being faulty and they flaw the f numbers and flash different or whatever. Um I think that's what that's kind of what Kevin was explaining was half and he goes, it was really similar to like when those guys were getting DQ'd at Supernationals, because I think it's just a parts failure, you know. Uh and sucks because that kid ran, he's been running good, and he ended up crossing line second. Yeah, yep.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yep. He uh he went to last, he went to last place, and it right before, you know, just about the end of that race, Dave Brooklander sitting down by Sarah and he goes, Hey, that boy came from Nebraska. He came to play, and yeah, he was fast, and it's unfortunate. I mean, I I don't think anybody wants to see stuff like that. It sucks, and um, you know, uh that's not gonna slow him down. He's gonna put the you know, he's gonna get her replaced, and he'll be he'll be right there. He's he's a fast one.

SPEAKER_12

I honestly wish that there was a way that, and maybe there is, but shit like that happening, like it's a part failure that happens or whatever it is, you know, there we we all know that there's guys out there messing with that. I'm not saying that this kid's doing that. I don't know him, but I've watched him race several times at Park Jefferson. He's always moving through the field, you know. And uh, but I wish that there was a way that they could take that box right there on the spot and test it, or just say, okay, here's a box, you know. We're not we're not gonna DQ you unless we find something in this box that's messed up. Sure. You know, you're talking about, you know, pay them the money because technically, you know, how how are we supposed to know that as a racer that, you know, and that's say maintenance your stuff, bullshit. Because I've bought brand new stuff, you know. I mean, one time the first year I won Supernationals, I got a bunch of contingency stuff uh for winning, you know, all the stuff that that's given away at Supernationals. And so shit, I mean, I want a crate motor. I mean, we put the we put the new crate motor in, we built, you know, put the new motor, we put the new motor in, the new distributor, all the shit. Well, we went to uh Beatrice for the Spring Nationals, and I run second and come in, and that was when Tom uh Kurtowski was the lead guy, and he was like, Jonathan, he's like, What's going on with your distributor? And I'm like, What do you mean? He's like, It's illegal. And I'm like, I'm like, that's the shit that I got at Super National. I like you guys gave me that. I put it in. And all it was is the top cap was not stock appearing. You know, and he didn't, I mean, he Tom was really cool. He didn't do it, he just we put a stock, you know, a regular stock-looking one on there, but I did not know that. You know, like that was just a thing. And I so these these parts failures happen. And, you know, it's kind of like when they, you know, catch an illegal crate motor with the seals and stuff. They really do their homework before they go in for the kill. You know what I mean? So like I feel like that kid drove from Nebraska to race out here. Um, very unfortunate, like you said. But I wish maybe in the future there's a there's you know, the red boxes are 200 bucks. It wouldn't take much for the track or whatever an MSD. We've had MSDs go bad in customers' cars, have sent them in and gotten responses and figured stuff out relatively quickly. So kind of uh that sucks that that happened for him.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that would be that would be something I I'm just literally shooting from the hip here. I don't know if that's something we could even reach out to MSD and see, you know, what it would take to get something like that set up. I mean, it'd be worth a conversation.

SPEAKER_12

Well, I mean, I'm just saying you're talking like, you know, hey, give us a couple boxes to where that you can tag it, boon speedway or whatever, and send that one in, and you would think within a couple of weeks that they could tell you if something was wrong with it or not, and they can ship, you know, you're talking peanuts. And and then it's not like I think that kid might be racing for national points or you know, state or something. I know I know he races a lot, and I could be completely wrong, but that really, really hurts him. You know, you want the wins if you're trying to chase those those uh titles, but a second place, you know, and he got to, you know, he didn't get a race against Socco, because we know Socco and and you know, some of them guys are running for that national title, which that kind of mixes things up too. We've talked about this multiple times on the podcast, but um, it just really puts a damper on what he's trying to do. Now he's got to make up another night, you know, and so maybe in the future they can come up with something like that. And because like I said, there's not like it's happening, it doesn't seem like it's happening a lot. Well, maybe it is, and we don't know about it, but like at Supernaturals that year, I think there was three or four of them, so that was kind of a but also too, three or four out of 250 cars, 300 cars. That's not that bad.

SPEAKER_07

Right, right. Right. Um continuing, yeah. No, I get it for sure. Um continuing through, Chris Webb was third in that first one. Fourth was Camden Vincent, the old Odega Express. Uh Mitchell Morris, top five in that one. Um, Hunter Longnecker passed uh 10 cars in that one. Second one, uh Cam Reimers started 11th and one. Willie Kirk started 10th and got second. Gage Hogenberg, man. I thought he had those guys covered.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

He was cooking.

SPEAKER_12

But I'm sitting in, you know, when I start on the outside, I basically just pull straight out of my pit stall into the line wherever, you know, where I need to be. And I'm sitting there and I'm watching him and he's hauling ass, and I'm like, holy shit, he has a big lead on these guys. And then of course, three to go or whatever it was. I don't know how many laps were left. He has a caution, and I'm like, oh man, and that's the young racer's worst, worst thing that can happen, especially when you've been in a rhythm. Because they went green for a long time there.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, he had like a three and a half second lead or something, I think, and he was checked out and he was doing a good job like racing around the lap cars. And right. Um, he was doing a fantastic job. He's gonna get he's gonna get one here real soon. I know he won the first timers race last was it last year? Yep. Or two years ago, yeah, last year. But uh, you know, so he's he's gonna keep clicking them off. Um and then uh so yeah, good run for him. You know, Sokka was up there, um, and then had to change a tire, and the caution fell like right at the right time for him when he got that uh flat tire.

SPEAKER_12

And then uh threaded that thing. I don't know what happened to it, but when it came by my pit area, it looked like it had gone through a meat grinder.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, and then that uh like I said, that came out right at the right time for him. I think he uh he raced his way back up to 7th and whatever it was, four or five laps. So um, but uh so it was a good good race for them. And like I I was talking to Cam during the interview, and I'm like, man, he didn't look that good at the beginning. He fell back to 12th or 15th. I think he started yeah, 11th, so he was further back than that, maybe in 15th. And then once the racetrack started widening out, he he got better. But um, so that was those two features, and then uh modified uh modified. This could be a whole Moffat's mayhem in its own. Just that feature.

SPEAKER_12

I I tell you what, them guys every every one of them were racing like assholes. I don't know why, it just was like holy moly. I um I'm gonna call a spade a spade here and disagree with the black flag call on the BMX star. Like, we you know, this is and before I go into this, this is no shots fired. This is how I seen it, like, and from what I seen it from is the 10-car pulls the slider. The slider was clean, but the slider made the 28 take the five-car out because they weren't even close to each other as far as like being in position to take one another out, and because the five-car had to check up so much for the 10-car, that's what caused that, in my opinion. Fitz how Fitz has nowhere to go. Um, I mean and that's just how I see it, you know, from my end of it. I I haven't I've watched the replay, and you know, from actually from where I was standing uh down there in turn three, it's hard to see around Lottie's little jeep thing in the wall and stuff. It actually looked like Mills just went across the five-car's nose. And then we watched the replay, and it's like, okay, he had him cleared, but holy shit, did he have to slow up so much that that's what made the five-car, you know, have to low up and turn sideways, and then Fitz is just there. And how does he even have time to react to that in a situation? Just sucked to, you know, it come to that, but it is what it is, and that's you know that's why there's a lot of people, keyboard warriors on the internet, you know, pissed off. And yeah, and and and then you watch it and it's like, okay, all right, but then it goes back to that whole Doug Smith, Jake McBurney thing, although Grant wasn't there. So it you know, the the track they made the call and they stuck with it, and that's it is what it is, it's just how it is. And then holy shit, they go on to um what happened to did Jake McBurnie go off the top in three and four? Because Chazbaca absolutely killed him and it ripped off his whole right side of his car and everything. Did you guys see that?

SPEAKER_07

I didn't see that part. Uh yeah.

SPEAKER_12

It was in three and four. I just need to go back and watch it. Yeah, it was in three and four. I I don't know if Jake got shoved up off the racetrack or what. We we turned to look, and then that's when Baca was like, Holy shit, Jake's right there, collide. It took him out of the race. Jake came around. I thought he was gonna have a lot more damage than what he did, and he he had a good recovery from it, and he ran third. Yeah, I believe. So, but it was just it was the the caution, I feel like that came out at that point. Kind of, I don't know if it was who it was for, but it definitely helped the 82 because it was almost like he was high centered in three and four, about right in the center of the corner. I could be wrong, but that's just what kind of what I I so I didn't know if you guys had caught that.

SPEAKER_07

That whole that whole feature to me was just kind of a blur because there was so much stuff that was happening. And uh then all of a sudden I look down and and uh Isaac's in second and goes to the top, and he goes to set the car and drives it off the top of three and four. And he's like, Yeah, I had too much front break in that thing. And when I went to set the car down, it just went whoop. So, and then but you know, Russ Dickerson, awesome run for him. He uh went second, Jake Sir got back to third, Chase Weimer fourth, Corey Sauerman 21st to fifth. And then Dave Finstad, good run for him. He was sixth.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Uh I wanted to know. So I'm going to read off the top nine cars. This is the amount of cars that they passed, just first through ninth. 10, 11, 9, 2, 16, 8, 0, 15, 15. That's a lot of cars passed. Well, an Inman 9.

SPEAKER_07

Inman had to go to the tail. Yep. And got back to seventh. He was cooking.

SPEAKER_12

You know, that's what kind of racing you get when you have one feature and you put those kind of guys in a show. Uh you see those kind of results. And you don't have, you know, you don't have that double. Um you got all the all the all the cream there, man. I mean, they they start all over in them fields and work their way through there like they always do. And and uh that's the kind of racing results you get right there.

SPEAKER_07

Well, even before that, you know, Nick Meyer led most of that race. And uh shredded left rear. Yeah.

SPEAKER_10

Something happened. I don't know if they got some him and some who was it, Cody?

SPEAKER_07

I'm not, I can't remember. Like I said, that whole thing was kind of a blur. I just remember Hank said, Hey, can you see the left rear? Can you anybody see the left rear on that two-car? And I'm like, it's still up, it's low, but it's not flat. And then he raced on it for another three or four laps, and him and Mills were throwing sliders on each other, and he was still good. Like, he still had a shot to win the race at that point, and uh all of a sudden she just let go. So, but I mean, like I said, that that I need to go back and just watch that whole race. Um, you know, uh, it was it was good. Um, oh, modified also had the king of the hill. Um I thought I thought Ethan Robey was gonna get that thing. Um he looks really, really good. Um I think him and Chaz kind of got together. Just barely. It wasn't intentional. It was just, you know, you got three laps to pass cars, and I think that he like he barely barely got him in the quarter or something, and that's when Mills got um got past him in that King of the Hill. But I mean, that last King of the Hill, that final was awesome. Those you could have thrown a blanket over those four guys.

SPEAKER_02

The the Player or Doug Doug probably would have been fine. Doug probably would have been fine with Ethan Wimmons.

SPEAKER_07

I know he was pretty pumped up, he was pretty jacked.

unknown

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

That was and I gotta say too, uh that this came up in the tower. Dave said it. How how refreshing is it to see Ethan, the improvement that he's had over the years, and he sticks with it, and he's gotten better and better and better, and it it is fun for me to see that too. So I'm glad to see it, and I I hope he keeps, you know, just keeps going.

SPEAKER_07

So I was talking to Doug. I think he's gonna get he's gonna get one too. He's been I think he's been up there. He's been racing really well.

SPEAKER_12

He gets put in the shittiest positions. Sometimes it's self-inflicted, other times it's not, and the times that it's not is when his car's really good and he's running really, really well. And it's like I've been an Ethan fan just because I mean, just basically started out and modified, right? I mean, hopped in the thing, and he like race risk, he races super respectful. And man, I I I agree with you guys. I think one's coming for him. Um, and you can definitely tell the the improvements each year uh on that race car for sure.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, he was pretty jacked up down there, so it was good to see. Um and it yeah, it's coming. Um Boone Moose Lodge 104 IMCA stock car feature number one. Michael Jeanette gets the win from sixth. Jim Gustin goes second. Um Tyler Pickett goes third, Kyle Everett's fourth, Devin Smith five. Um in that first one. And uh that one, Jimmy kind of picked those guys off on the restart. Did you see that? Well, you were probably I don't know if you saw it or not because you were in the oh yeah, well, yeah, because you would have been in the later session.

SPEAKER_12

I was in the later feature, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, so but yeah, he did on that restart, man. He just he went right, they put three wide there, and he got another spot. But cool to see Michael Jeanette. He went uh two for two over on the weekend, which is cool. So it was good.

SPEAKER_12

He's he's had some shitty luck. Yeah, and uh I wanna I want to touch base on this because I I've heard a lot of people commenting on Facebook and and or not why or just reading and people in the pit area wondering why he was allowed to uh continue after his window net came down during the middle of the race. And uh guys, I'm gonna I'm gonna pass this on one one on to you. We we we talked about it before the show and and I did not know this. Um and and I think that it needs to be you know cleared up that you know that that this was a rule change and and it it's okay because I think there's a lot of people out there that it that misunderstood, you know, not having a safety net up. Not that anybody wants Michael Jeanette, you know, to to get disqualified for something like that, but what is the rule and excuse me, when did it change?

SPEAKER_07

I don't remember it's been a few years, I think, hasn't it, Josh? Where if you start with your window net up, obviously, like they weren't they're not gonna penalize you for it falling down as a malfunction. Um and then they will they'll put it back up for you on a caution or whatever else.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I've been part of of the calls in the past when it was there was no no leeway, it's down, you're done. Um and yeah, and I'm not completely positive of when the change was made either, but I know it's it's a it's a bum or deal. Because I tell you, some of those window nets, I used to have them, they were super hard to put up, but some of them they're they're real easy. Man, a a clod of dirt can hit it and hit that you know that tab and just knock it down. So um, you know, I do like the fact that there's a little leeway there. Um and yeah, I I think it's weird when they were calling on the radio, I swore somebody said his tire was down. I was like, oh, well, he's done for, and then I went back to some paperwork, and the next thing I know, it's getting over. I'm like, wait, he won? Like, wait, and I turned and I'm like, what did he have down? They're like, Oh, it was his window net. So I was like, I was out to launch on it. I guess I I thought he had a down uh a tire go down, but so you I have I just had never seen it, you know.

SPEAKER_12

I seen Hank, he rode over on the back stretch there and tried putting it up, literally puts it up, and it literally fell down like three feet after he pulled away from Hank. And I just I I did not know that. But super great weekend for Michael Janet. I mean, he was he was faster and shit at Friday night at Marshtown, and uh he was super patient. Who the hell was he battling with? On Friday? Um Saturday. Kyle Everest, man, them guys had a hell of a race.

SPEAKER_07

I didn't it it was it was Jared Myers. Myers, Myers Myers. Myers Myers was Myers was the one that he passed there after, I don't know, was it about halfway maybe?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I think so. Yeah, and Myers Myers has shown a lot of improvement getting into the stock cars from the hobby stocks. So um, you know, good on good on him. And I it's just one of those deals that I think you can hang with one.

SPEAKER_07

Well, it's just like you said, one of those deals, same same type of situation where you keep putting yourself in a spot to be there at the end, and you're gonna finally get one eventually, you know? Right. Um feature number two, Janky Jeff in the old flamed up 77M gets a win. Uh Tori Jerovitz goes second. Uh Snot Rocket, Matthew Meinickey goes third, Bobcat goes fourth, Hunter Smith goes fifth um in that one. So Jeff, you know, like you've we've always said, Jeff is so tough on the bottom at that place, but then you throw Jarovets in the mix too, and he's those two. I mean, they're two of the best on the bottom at that place. I don't even know if I've ever seen Jaravets run the cushion ever at Boone.

SPEAKER_12

I that I mean, that I don't I think you're probably right on course there. I I I do. I I don't know if I've ever seen him passed halfway up the reef track. Yeah, right. Right.

SPEAKER_02

I was watching that feature and I I kept in my head, I'm like, we gotta have a nickname for these two, like call them the catfish clowns or something, because they they are very, very good on the bottom, both of them. So and then there was a guy that finished fourth, and he's he's pretty damn good on the bottom too.

SPEAKER_12

I you know, I I just wasn't really that good down there. I mean, I I was okay. I could maintain. I just I kept my car just kept getting better and better towards the end of that race. And I just kind of, you know, it was just had a misfortune, and we we scramped we scratched back, and it was good. I was pumped up to see Jeff get a win. You know, his mom passed away, Mother's Day this weekend, you know, and and Jeff uh got a lot going on uh this summer with the kids being in sports and stuff, and this is his, you know, this is his final year racing. Um he's retiring after this year and got the just got too much going on with the kids growing up. But we do know that Finster wants to be a racer, so it's not the end of Jeff Mueller, but um what I know on it, you know, the the Songer family and everybody involved, all the great sponsors on that, on his car, and to do that throwback car. We've been calling him the fireball, you know, and shit, because it just you know I'm pissed if you guys looked at the actual throwback car, he had flames actually on the nose piece, which I don't know what your brother-in-law was thinking, which I know flame I know stickers on plastic is sucks to put on, but that would have been awesome.

SPEAKER_07

So yeah. Uh let's see, what do we got now?

SPEAKER_02

Bombers.

SPEAKER_07

Yep. Oh, okay. Uh pick a salvage IMC hobby stocks. Will Smith, man. That kid's been on a tear. Uh ninth to one. Does he use the brakes?

SPEAKER_12

I don't know. I feel like he's gonna fly off the top of the racetrack every corner, and I'm not shitting you. I love it.

SPEAKER_02

He was running, he was running the Damon Murdy hobby stock line up there in three and four, and I'm like, bud, you're gonna park it down with the Packers here before too long if you ain't careful. Dude, I'm gonna go.

SPEAKER_07

Well, even during his heat race, he was just ripping, I mean rooster tails all the way around because he's at the edge of that thing.

SPEAKER_02

Yep.

SPEAKER_07

On the watch. Uh Wayne Gifford goes second, Joey Young third. Seth Butler goes fourth. And uh yeah, he was in, Seth was in kind of uh melee at the beginning and had to start restart 20th or 19th, whatever it was, and drove back up to fourth. Um Dylan Hill goes five. Um top five in that one. Um a feature two, Eric Knutson finally getting one this year in the 12k. Um goes from eighth to one. Jill Wollenhopp, um, a plus seven to second. Corey Vanderwill a plus seven to third. Um Bryce Sommerfeld goes fourth, Mitchell McNeil fifth, Solomon Bennett sixth. Old May Knater was seventh. So the old Adobe Lounge number 11 over there.

SPEAKER_02

So that was the that was the one where I'm pretty sure our mayhem winner came out of. That was the uh man. Like I happened to turn my head. Yes, I turned my head and saw that as it happened, and I was like, oh my god, I was just glad he it looked like he was going up to the catwalk, like he was he was sailing.

SPEAKER_12

If that kid could phone in next episode and explain to us what that looked like, like because I what I think it probably felt like was that time just like when I jumped that Winnebago camper and I ain't shit, yeah. Straight from from the incubus, because we were they uh Matt and uh Kevin had us pulling shocks and stuff off, and so we pulled we pulled the shocks off, and we just look up and I'm like, oh no, holy shit. I mean that wow.

SPEAKER_07

Well, Shane, yeah, because Shane broke, Shane Butler broke, and you can see the you could see the front end of the car just sit down, and he's probably going, oh shit, oh shit, oh shit, oh shit, oh shit. Like, because he couldn't, he was trying to keep it down, he couldn't, and then that guy just barely got hooked in the left rear and just popcanned that thing, man. Wild.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

That was definitely that's definitely my vote for the Moffat's mayhem on that deal.

SPEAKER_02

Uh OB, OB had it for me until that moment.

SPEAKER_07

Right. Right. Well, that's all of our results. Um yeah, we're in an hour almost here for the first one. So let's go to a uh quick break, and then when we come back, we will talk about all of our other stuff going on. Oh, one, yeah. I also wanted to talk about something else real quick when we come back from the break. But uh anyway, yeah, we'll send it off to our our friends, Central Iowa Diesel Performance and all the others. SPEAKER_12

Cheesy. I wasn't letting them go to the can.

SPEAKER_02

Harvest cheddar sun chips, man, they go faster on this household. I can tell you that.

SPEAKER_12

Garden sauce is my fave. Yeah, those are good. But I'll eat. I'll smash the harvest cheddar.

SPEAKER_07

You bet. I did uh I did tell Josh on Saturday I made it a point to go get some soft cheese balls and a uh hamburger or cheeseburger this week. And I texted Josh. Text Josh like, holy shit, these are good. He's like, Yeah, I've been telling you for five weeks you need to have one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, dude. Dave, Dave told me up in the tower, he goes, I don't even put anything on it. I just put it straight up. So yeah, they are very good. Yes. Yep. Yeah, they've been a big hit.

SPEAKER_12

Notice the concession stand's been staying open a lot later. We do appreciate that, girls. Thank you very much.

SPEAKER_02

But I can tell you what, we're on food talk. I gotta give weather or not a shout-out, guys. They catered the uh grad party today, and we had uh brisket, pulled pork, mac and cheese. They made Mexican street corn like with chips for dip, and uh Brett's special salad, and no Jonathan nuts, uh not that kind of salad, but it was really, really good. They uh did it have cranberries in it? No cranberries. Nope. It was uh it had some tortilla strips in it, and oh yeah. Um it was good. And Brett's they make their own dressing. Like he had the house uh garlic parm was yeah, their their house garlic.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, their house garlic farm dressing is so good.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, and Brett and Melissa, like huge shout out. They stayed for the whole thing, they took care of everything. Um, they're awesome. So anybody that's looking to get something like that done, hit them up. They are incredible.

SPEAKER_06

So I'm cat. I got a I gotta dude. I got like a dirt burger, bud, and I cannot get off of them.

SPEAKER_10

Driving me absolutely nuts.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I see another reel getting pussy out of this. Yeah, that's good.

SPEAKER_07

I literally tapped this, I tapped the screen to see what the timer said, just so I could tell you what it was at. I got it, man. I'm telling you.

SPEAKER_06

That's awesome. Yeah, no, they whether or not there it is. See, uh I told you guys there was something up there.

SPEAKER_07

Holy God. I can only imagine Garrett behind the scenes right now. Just yeah.

SPEAKER_12

Um they Brett and Mel brought uh some burritas to the race track or out to the race shop for us. Uh we forgot, they told us no, well, we we did forget them, yeah. We we loaded the car up, which we never load the car up before. Like we get the car ready and then go home and you know, change, shower up, whatever, get ready and come back to the shop, and then we always load the car up. We didn't load the car, we loaded the car this time so we could be a little bit later. And uh we got out here and Turbo was out here, and so we start bullshitting and everything. And next thing you know, we're like, oh shit, we gotta go. Hot laps are in like 45 minutes. So we hop in the truck and make the two and a half mile drive over to the speedway. And I call I'm like, oh shit, the burritos. So dad brought the burritos, or no, Braden did. Braden brought them. Braden come in clutch on them, and uh, we shared with Cam and his old gang of peoples over there, and Matt and Matt and my trailer had them, and it was awesome. They were they were good. We were gonna go to the concession stand and steal some salsa and stuff, but I figured somebody would have been watching and I don't want to get in trouble.

SPEAKER_07

You bring your own salad, dude. You'll bring your own Odega racetrack, bud.

SPEAKER_12

Well, I Brett packed, he he had us set up, buddy had us packed individual or you know, individual packets and shit. And uh we were good, but I it's the salsa for me, like the chunky salsa on the breakfast burrito. Oh man, so good.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they we've had you know, whether or not I don't know how many times now, and I have never had anything even even marginal from them, like it's all top-notch stuff, so they do such a good job.

SPEAKER_12

Yep, and and they support a lot of racers, yeah, yes, and send food with a lot of racers that are going up and down the road, get over there, and if especially supernationals, if you don't go there during supernationals to get breakfast, I know they have breakfast. On the grounds, but they support the salute to veterans. They like I said, they send I know they send a ton of stuff with Isaac, Kyle Brown, myself, Jeff, Buck, and Todd. I mean, it Pam, I mean, a lot of people they they do that stuff for, and it's absolutely awesome.

SPEAKER_07

And it's cool to see how it's cool to see how that deal's grown. You know, Brett and Russia just started making burritos in their driveway, and now they're full-blown catering company. I think they have the contracts with like the National Guard, you know, when they do all their stuff here in town, and it's it's awesome. And they like I said, they're super supportive of the racing events. Um, you know, when people if people don't like if you don't want the the food in the from the concession stand, when you get a VIP tower, like we suggest going through them. Um you know, if you want something beyond what we have at the racetrack, when you rent the VIP out, you can contact Brett and Mal. So yeah, it's just really, really cool. Um this they're super supportive of of everything. And um this, and I was just thinking about this, a food story, and it has to do with Jonathan. So I and I don't know why this popped up in my head, and maybe he doesn't even remember it, but when we were kids, we did we were we'd always sit together in the grandstands at Boone Speedway, and because my mom and grandparents and stuff sat in one section, and his grandparents were like literally right on the other side of the side of the stairs. So me and Bobcat always hung out, obviously. And he was like, hey, I he was a big tenderloin guy, and uh he thought he was gonna get he wanted to try out, see how many jalapenos he could put on his on his center loin one time. And I don't know if you remember this or not, but the the image of your face after you bit into that bad boy was still something that is a core memory for me. Because if you can imagine the reaction, do you remember what I'm talking about though? I don't know if you do, but I definitely do. I think I bet him. I think I bet him to see how many jalapenos he could put on it. It was awesome. I still remember it to this day.

SPEAKER_11

I went through about three rolls of toilet paper for the next three days, and I ain't shitting.

SPEAKER_07

Well, you were you were shitting, but I just and Josh, you know now that you know Jonathan is like that. I don't, I'm telling you. Right. Yeah. And and it and then you can just now that you know Jonathan as well as you do, I know you can picture the reaction that was happening. Right?

SPEAKER_02

I would guess that he probably took that bite and a little bit of Ivan came out. It probably looks a little red there.

SPEAKER_12

Oh yeah. Yeah, and the racetrack don't have milk, so it was uh Mr. Jam or a lemonade, whatever it was, and some cotton candy at the dinner.

SPEAKER_02

Well then, hey, the question the question's gotta be asked. Did you power through the whole thing or did you did you have to ditch it?

SPEAKER_12

Well, I oh I ate I but well back then they were only five bucks. Oh yeah. They were cheap. But yeah, I power I mean I ain't wasting food, but it takes a lot like it takes a lot of gas to run this motor.

SPEAKER_07

You guys know sweating, just sweating, yeah. Anyway, like I said, that was my squirrel brain moment. But uh that's awesome. Uh uh well I want to we want to circle back. We've talked about it already um a couple different times. Moffat Ford mayhem, and you know, uh it was cool how Charlie and those guys and and Jen wanted to put together this segment, right? And it was basically four things that like this that happened this weekend. I mean, you have the whole modified feature, right? Um, and that doom the Doom scroll on that is up to about 16,000, right? As from what I saw today.

SPEAKER_02

I think he had that some bitch out before Mills came out of Victory Lane.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, Chris was on it. He was popping them off really quickly. Yes. Um, but you know, like he said, I thought OB was gonna take it. I thought he was gonna take the mayhem award home, but man, that's uh the hobby stock at 44 hobby stock. He's the winner.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I was I was all ready for OB to get it because I was gonna go back and snip the part where the the hillbilly was dragging him off all slow, and he was sitting up out of the car waving at the fans were giving him a cheer, you know, and I was like, yep, that's it, that's it. And then nope, kid came from Pueblo, Colorado, and tried to fly to Ames. Yeah, but that's uh it sucks. I mean, uh that's uh you never want to see that. Um, and obviously I know you know Moffats, they're not promoting that stuff, but it does happen at racetracks, it's it's part of it. Um, and at least at least maybe we can uh shine a little light on it. And the kid walked away from it. That's that's the important thing, you know, from all that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

So kidding, home with a million mile warranty over there.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I think that's yeah, that's part of their commercial, isn't it?

SPEAKER_12

It's part of their commercial, bud, yeah. So make sure if you're looking for a new Ford pickup or any work done to your Ford pickup, Moffat's is the place to be, right across from the racetrack. They support the racetrack. So you come to Supernationals and you got some stuff going on, that is the place to do it. They whipped up the old uh water truck boy, that baby purrs like a kitten. So uh great to have Moffat's Moffat's is a supporter here of the podcast, and and not just the podcast, but the racetrack too as well.

SPEAKER_02

Yep, she purrs like a kitten, steers like a Sherman tank.

SPEAKER_12

That's no shit.

SPEAKER_07

I did have to say that uh that uh new unit from Hicklin has been coming in clutch, especially when it gets chilly down in the infield. Yeah, the the best part is when I can uh turn the radio on inside of it and just listen to Jerry. If I need to take my headset off, I just turn that off, turn it on there. So um there you go. Yeah, and that's what Lamore was like, I haven't heard anything about the that side by side on the podcast yet. So I do appreciate those guys. Um but I want to get into the power rankings. So we have we have moved a little bit on those. Um ran the old formula for the five weeks. Um Jimmy Gustin still on top of the overall. Uh what you got going on there, bud?

SPEAKER_12

They're back here snorting and sniffing and everything, so I was just checking on them.

SPEAKER_07

Uh Jimmy Gustin's overall in the Adobe Lions Power Rankings, number one. Uh Mikey Smith is two. Cowboy Ray has jumped up to three overall. Jake Sacco, fourth, Corey Salerman's fifth on the mods. Will Smith is sixth overall. Cam Reimer is the seventh overall, Todd Shute is eighth. The Bobcat is up to ninth, and Jake McBurney rounds out the top ten in the overall power rankings. So, but hey, Bobcat, you did uh your second in uh by class in the in the stock cards behind Jim. So you're creeping up there.

SPEAKER_11

I'm creeping on him just slowly but surely. It'd be really sweet if I could just race him, but there'll be a time and a place for that.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I was gonna say, I was gonna I I can't even do it. How do you what's the move the Jimmy didn't venture late?

SPEAKER_12

Yeah, I don't know what the waggle or the waddle or I don't know. The girl's been doing it over there in the corner when he comes by, and it's it it's it's quite funny, actually.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Uh Josh May leads the mod lights, Will Smith, Mike Smith, Jimmy Gus, and Jeremy Mills. Um, top five by class. So um toughest break this week was Todd Shoot. Um the biggest mover was Jeremy Mills and driver of the week via the power rankings because it takes everything into consideration your heat races, um cars past, uh things like that, your recency bonus. Um Cowboy Ray jumped up on that. So that is your Adobe Lounge Power Rankings for week number five. So um I'm excited to see how this deal plays out, like when you get towards the end of the year, like when we're at week 15, you know, to see how different it is.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_07

Hopefully the 69 car is not ninth and he's in the top three.

SPEAKER_12

You guys will figure out some way to screw it around to where it like me wherever. That's that's what's I'm sure that's what'll happen.

SPEAKER_02

The the bobcat bonus. Right.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Uh you got Jonathan's got some mood lighting going on over there.

SPEAKER_12

Well, I was just thinking about my dad probably giving me shit about having all the lights on. I'm just sitting there on the phone. I had to turn it down a little bit.

SPEAKER_07

Um do we want to go into the Elmquest telling question of the week at this point, boys?

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Okay.

SPEAKER_11

Um what well wait a minute, wait a minute. What do you got left on the itinerary?

SPEAKER_12

That's what I'm looking at right now. So we probably need to go to the next commercial and send it off to our great partners that make this podcast possible. Uh Elmquest Towing, Moffatsford, Adobe Lounge, Housebe Trucking, P1P, Vogue Fabrication, Central Iowa Diesel Performance.

SPEAKER_07

We can't do it without all of our great partners that to uh support this, not just Oh, I do want to give give a sh shout out to JTS Motorsports. So um Justin saw me and Josh. Josh and I took the TVs up to the office, and then Josh had to peel out, and uh I walked over and they were doing some training. Like they had the fire, the fire truck had the ladder um up in the air, and they had this new rope system that they were doing all this stuff on. And so I was over there, walked over there and was talking to Justin. And um, so he had Justin was the one that that JTS Motorsports, Justin and his family are the ones that got those two uh grandstand tickets um to give away. So yeah. Yeah, so um yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Did you see the message from Chase? Yeah, yeah, he's like he won them and he's like, Hey, I live in Kansas, so basically he wanted to pay it forward. So we're gonna basically we're gonna give them away again. So we'll do uh we'll do something, we'll do something this week for uh Saturday and couple a couple lucky people because we do need to get free tickets to the Bone Speedway.

SPEAKER_07

And we should put together some of that stuff that people sent us. Like we have when Josh and I went up to the um off Saturday, I'm like, there's so many t-shirts up here. Like we should start giving these things away. So we'll have some some t-shirts and some tickets and some other stuff to give away this week. Um, but yes, the unbox one thing I want to say we didn't have anything coming through with on the unboxing because we had so much stuff last week, but please, that was one of the most fun segments that we have done all since this podcast started. And I've had more people talk about the Winston coat and the Wayne Frost coat and the Dale coat. Like, um, it's really like so. If anybody else, like I said, if you guys got stuff to send us, it's it's really cool. Like, I that was that was one of the fit my favorite things that we've done so far.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that was a lot of fun.

SPEAKER_12

It's gonna be a tough one to it's gonna be a tough one to top, but I know there's some nostalgic stuff out there that people, you know, I have a bunch of stuff that it's like, man, I've been hanging on to this forever, you know. Like, what do you do with it?

SPEAKER_07

Um so Josh, what did I text you? I texted Josh the other day, and I'm like, how cool would it be to get some helmets? Oh right, right. If we can get some helmets, I've seen like Jamie Ball, he races sprint cars um down in Knoxville, and he's he's a realtor down in Knoxville, and he's been racing for a long time. He actually raced against my dad in the 305 class, and and uh really, really good guy, really good family. Um, but he's got you know, he's been obviously buying, trading, doing all the stuff with helmets, and I know there's a lot of other people that do that. I'm like, man, that'd be cool to get some helmets in our in our spot.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Imagine a shelf all around the top of the ceiling just with helmets lined up there. Badass.

SPEAKER_07

Be cool. I did I did see the left turn law dog this weekend. Um, we went out for uh Allie Price's uh she got a promotion at her job, so we went out, I went all went out to eat. And I'm like, you know, if you wanna if you want to put that uh 2001 Boon Speedway track championship trophy on loan, we'd we'd put it in, we'd put it up here on the table for you for a little while.

SPEAKER_02

So give her a display display piece.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We'll give it back. We just want to show it off.

SPEAKER_02

Well, and hey, we're talking about you know changes to the studio. There's about to be a lot of changes to the studio, so we got some AOK from Mike on some stuff, and yeah, we're gonna get to work on that, and the next few weeks, she's gonna take shape, boys. It's gonna be pretty sweet.

SPEAKER_07

Well, and the best part about that too is the way that we wanted to the idea that we had for laying out the wheels that Kelly sent us, they fit perfect. Like where we wanted to put them.

SPEAKER_02

So it was awesome.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, it's gonna be pretty awesome. And what I liked too was, you know, when we were laying out that rendering, I mean, people think that we're just a couple fly by night guys, but you know, we got we had the steel kind of figured out. But the one thing that I really liked that when we dropped that in there was the backlighting of the door panels.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Yeah, it looked pretty badass. And I'm dude, that stuff that strip lighting stuff is so cheap. Like it's it is, and you just stick it to the back, plug her in the wall, and hang on.

SPEAKER_07

Right. And I'm no interior designer, you know, but uh I Haley's excited. She wants to help with some of that stuff, I think. She's not a big race fan, but uh she can make the place look good. So um I hope she likes the paint. Yeah, that's what I told her today. I said uh Josh uh Josh was asking for somebody that wants to paint. I'm like, I think Haley would do it.

SPEAKER_02

So I got the drop clause, I got the stuff. We just gotta pick up some paint. We're gonna turn the walls colors and yeah, it's gonna be awesome.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. When that when that Amazon deal hits again, we gotta get a couple more TVs because like I said, I told you guys football season's coming up in the fall, so we gotta get her dialed in. Absolutely. Bobcat, what what's your football team? He's a cowboys guy. Are you a cowboys guy? I'm a cowboys guy. I thought so. Yeah. Yep. Yeah, Josh, you're a Broncos guy, right?

SPEAKER_02

All Broncos ever since I was little, yep. Yeah, I I'm a Bears fan, so I'll I was gonna say one of us is probably gonna be happier than the others come this fall.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. I do I do like watching the Broncos too because Kellen's a huge Broncos fan.

SPEAKER_02

Kellen is Kellen's an absolute stud, and I've known this for a long time. But when I heard that he was a Broncos fan, I'm like, well, it's sealed now, man.

SPEAKER_07

Right. Coop Coop's a big Chiefs guy, so I know he's yeah, that's you're anti-Ciefs.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but I tell you, I love Coop, but me and him are gonna have to we're gonna have to talk about that. Man, come on, Coop.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, so but no, we are getting the studio dialed in. It's just been a work in progress. What are you doing, man?

SPEAKER_10

I'm just I'm just chilling.

SPEAKER_02

You get a text from Five Times says shut the lights off.

SPEAKER_07

John, John went over and hit the power at the shop because he's running the bill up. Hit the breaker. But uh no, studio's coming together. It's been a work in progress. We want to make sure we get it right. So it's gonna be it's gonna be pretty awesome. Um yeah. So let's um, yeah, should we shoot it over to a break real quick? We'll come back with the Elmquest telling question of the week, um, wrap a few things up, and then I mean the yeah. We can talk about we can talk about uh one of the other things too, if we want to. All right, we're gonna send it off to a break. When we come back, we'll finish up here on watermelon wood chips.

SPEAKER_07

Welcome back, race fans, watermelons and wood chips presented by Central Iowa Diesel Performance. And uh we just got a couple things to finish up here before Jonathan's phone dies. So um Elmquest towing question of the week. Um, and that thing popped off again. Um, I think people really felt sentimental about the question, and it was who is your dirt track racing hero and why? Um, and mine like I said, I can see it on my phone, the notification's still coming through as we're talking about it. Um I guess do you want me to start with mine? Yeah. All right. Uh Steve Kinzer. Um pretty obvious. I think Jo Jonathan probably knew that was gonna be the answer anyway. But uh um when I was a kid, my room was green. Like my bedroom was green. Like had all the posters and all the stuff. And um, so Steve Kinzer's always been I mean, but our family has always been huge rent car nuts. Um and Steve Kinzer was always our guy. And then obviously, you know how I like to take things to the next level to the extra extreme once I get uh locked in on something. So um, but yeah, that's uh really, really cool to watch that. And then and and uh learn a lot, you know what I mean? Like I I got that book, the Kinzer book that Dave Argabright um wrote, and you get to learn more things, and you know, David brought Lottie up in the book, and so I'm gonna go with Steve Kinzer just for this fact that the guy was phenomenal. And like I said, we already have a Steve Kinzer diecast on the table at the studio, but some of those posters that are laid out on the table that are flattening out because they've been in a tote forever, so I got stacks of those. Gotta get frames for him. So they're gonna be a lot of sprint car stuff probably in our office as well.

SPEAKER_09

Go for it, Jonathan. No, you go first.

SPEAKER_02

You want me to go first? All right. Well, I've got a few I could choose from. Um but uh really when I narrow it down, there's one guy that I worked with him and he influenced my decision to even get involved with dirt track racing at all, because I didn't really even know it existed. And it's it might surprise some people. I know there's a lot of people that'll know this, but it's Terry Pruitt. Uh I worked with Terry for a couple years at the tile plant in Redfield, and I just, you know, he is the one that introduced me to Ron Little. Um, Ron was building his car at the time. And it just it exposed me to this stuff that I had no idea existed. And that is the reason that I'm, you know, that we're sitting that I'm sitting here with you guys today. So that's I'm gonna go with him for that.

SPEAKER_09

I don't even have to say who, you know, is mine. I mean you guys already know. He's the guy that shit lights off on you.

SPEAKER_12

No, it's Roger Harvey, right? It's just it's shit. It's right there. That guy.

SPEAKER_02

Oh baby.

SPEAKER_12

That guy. Um, I'm gonna um can you flip the camera around here, G?

SPEAKER_02

He might be able to.

SPEAKER_12

Anyway.

SPEAKER_08

This guy.

SPEAKER_12

Uh my dad. Um all time, in my eyes, one of the you know, the best IMCA modified racer there ever was. And um, you know, I have I have two heroes and in my racing, and it's my dad and and Jimmy Gustin. And um, you know, and I think it's because I watched Jimmy be Jimmy all them years, you know, and we have such a close relationship and and I cherish that, you know, and he uh I he kind of like the older brother that I never had, you know, and can call him and and talk to him about anything. And I I get to see uh he hates this and he's gonna hate that I say it, but I get to see a little bit different of the modern day Marshall Town Speedway cowboy. I hope Monica plays that for him, and he I just he I was giving him shit about it last night. Actually, we talked for or maybe it was today. Last night or today we were talking. Yeah, so those are my two guys. Uh seen a lot of a lot of cool responses though on that question of the week. A lot of Scott Bloomquist, you know, I mean, Scott for for the late model world, I mean to me, I mean, Scott, you know, is has won and done, and I think it's because of how unique Scott was and some of the stories and stuff that I heard, but you know, like I'm I'm hoping that uh you know Ricky Thornton is that guy someday. And I say that because I know Ricky, uh, you know, and got to race with Ricky and and see him do some really incredible things and to see him come out, you know, was it two years ago and broke the single-year record for wins in Lucas Oil in a single season, you know, like holy shit. Um, but a lot a lot of cool answers on there. Uh just of people getting introduced to somebody was one of the most common answers, you know, you see on there. So I I thought that was a very clever question.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, definitely. I I was interested in there was quite a few old school names brought up, and there's I mean, I could go through the list, but the one that stuck out to me, I saw somebody said uh Billy the Kid Guile. And that is an old, old school that he drove the 21 yellow with the Chevrolet symbol and at the fairgrounds years ago. But my connection to that is I went to school with his son, Nate, and we actually lived together in Stuart for like four years. And he's one of one of my best friends. Like he you know stood up in my wedding with me, and so when I see people talk about his dad, I never got to see his dad race, but I've heard a lot of people talk about that, you know, driving like an old 55 Chevy and out at Stuart and in Des Moines and and all that. So um, but yeah, like Kelly Bowen, Silba, Steve Jackson, Smoking Joe McBurney. Um, some of those names we all take for granted. Like I met Ron Pope last year, did not realize that his wife was Kelly, who I've known because I used to work at the gate at Supernationals. I've knew her off and on, and she saw me in the tower and she's like, What are you doing up here? And we like made the connection really quick. So that was pretty cool. And but the amount of wins that if you just look at those lists, you know, the amount of wins and and laps that these people have run around racetracks in Iowa, especially the Boone Speedway. I mean, it's just it's mind-blowing.

SPEAKER_07

It really is. Mm-hmm. Yeah, and like I said, I know like mine was not super connected to you know Boone Speedway, but like that was what really got me interested in racing. Yeah, but right.

SPEAKER_12

No, no, that's that's cool. I I I I don't think every person that you know commented on our page was inspired by a Boon Speedway thing, which is great. Like, this is a dirt track podcast, as far as that's what I like about our podcast is um you know, we don't just talk about just the Boom Speedway and just IMCA, you know, and nothing against Boon Speedway and IMCA. I'm just saying, like, I think it's cool. Like I've we went to when we went to Algona, you know, we people just man, the podcast is great, like come up and introduce themselves, and like that is so freaking awesome, you guys. Like, yeah, seriously, like so so cool. And I it so I am glad that it's kind of inspired me to want to go to just different racetracks and race because it's like, man, you know, like spread your footprint a little bit too. Well, right, and I I've raced at a ton of tracks, but it's always super fun. Like I said, we're going on the North Dakota tour this year. I'm knocking off five brand new tracks that I've never been to. My I don't know if my dad's been to any of those tracks, but anytime I can knock off a track that he hasn't been to, which is tough to do, I like to do that. So yeah, um, not necessarily that he's not been to, but that he's raced on or whatever. So super, super cool, you guys, for real.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we definitely I had a guy come up to me at the track yesterday and just and like said my name, and I'm like, I don't know who you are. Oh, wait. Yeah, but I know how you know who I am. So that was like that was cool. Um, and it we got the message. I am excited.

SPEAKER_07

Do you remember the message? Remember the message the guy, did you see the one that came through? I gotta find it now. But he's like, You guys have inspired me to start my own podcast. Did you see that?

SPEAKER_02

It was the it was the kid that won the tickets, yes. Was that the same guy? Okay. I think it was. It was Chase, yeah. Oh, yeah, it was. Yes, yeah. Yep, yep, yep. I'm I'm interested to see Bobcat, you go up to Canada, how many people approach you up there? Because I think it'll happen. And it's yeah, it's just wild to think about. So it's very cool. And I know we say it every episode, like we appreciate everybody that you know gives their time to listen to this. If it's one of the reels or if it's the whole episode, doesn't matter. Like we we really appreciate it, and uh you know, I don't we're not changing lives, you know, we're just three guys talking racing basically, but we all love it. And you know, obviously we give our time to it, we give tons of time to it.

SPEAKER_07

So well, and people have been asking about it, so it's it's coming. The the merchandise is coming. Well we that's what we can say.

SPEAKER_02

So I believe something's gonna something might hit the airwaves this week.

SPEAKER_07

I hope so. Yeah, I hope so. Possibly yeah, we'll get we got uh I've been working with a couple manufacturers, not manufacturers, but I guess, yeah, manufacturers and uh um printers and people to work with us on some stuff and talk to our boy Eric at 905 Inc. He's gonna work with us on some stuff. So uh yeah, so it's on its way. We will hopefully within the next couple weeks have an official launch on everything. I I think we're gonna try and do it all at once. So part of me was like, man, I kind of want to dump one of those in into this, you know, and like tease it, but we'll just we'll have to hold off. I'll tell you this. There's a few people I've gotten so excited for it that I've showed plenty of people.

SPEAKER_02

So yes, I I've shared it to a few people too, and I shared it out. My buddy doesn't have anything to do with racing, and he saw it and he is jacked up. So oh hell yeah. Just come rolling in with a popsicle.

SPEAKER_12

Did you I just remembered they're in the freezer, so I slushy. I slushy mine, but I'd get the old I was gonna say, gave her gave her the old crush. I took the old CPD over there and gave her the old the old tropical snow twist here.

SPEAKER_07

He just comes in out of frame. Hold the popsicle.

SPEAKER_09

Yep. Good too, boys. The blue raspberry setting.

SPEAKER_07

But yes, no, I I talk, like I said, talk to Eric at 905 Inc. He's gonna work with us on that project to at least get us going on that. And we have some other things that we're gonna tie to it. So it's gonna be awesome. I know I'm excited. I know you two, I think, seem excited about it. So oh, I'm excited. And once we get rolling, Jonathan's gonna have to build another cabinet to hold all the shit in his trailer when he goes racing.

unknown

I wonder.

SPEAKER_07

You know, Father. You know a fabricator that can help out with that.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah. Well, you know what? I felt terrible. You guys, the the couple that sent in the B mains and baby mama shirt. Oh, yeah. Thursday, our day just got screwed up at work.

SPEAKER_11

Oh, because they raced up there.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah, they went, yeah, they raced up there. And I I my day just got screwed up. I didn't even get a chance to go home before we left to go racing. I forgot to wear it. They're like, You got the shirt on? I'm like, oh man. But Lexi's cookies that I forgot, and I think I was like, We ate them.

SPEAKER_02

Pretty good.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah, no, they're good. Okay, they're good. They were very, very good. But Cody gave me a shit about it, and I'm like, man, I feel so terrible about it. But yeah, they were good.

SPEAKER_07

I know. Wrecker Cody came over and he's like, Big Red screwed up the cookie deal, huh? Like, I said, I'm pretty sure he talked about it. So then Josh cut that reel today, or it went out today. I sent it to Cody and I said, see, he did talk about it. Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Yep. Yep. He's like, I'll get you to the rest. Things are uh things are cooking. Um and again, it all starts with everybody that's listening and watching right now. So we sure appreciate it.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, absolutely. Well, guys, keep subscribing, sharing, all the things. Um you know, share with your friends. You know, it helps us keep going and and move forward.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, hey, also too, folks.

SPEAKER_12

Pay attention this week we're gonna do that giveaway on that BNB bushing install cool shit.

SPEAKER_08

We did it. Didn't the kid give it back to give it away again? All the tickets?

SPEAKER_10

Oh, jeez. Okay. Well, I just stuck my foot in my mouth. We're gonna give a giveaway on the BD bushing install kit all.

SPEAKER_09

Andrea, I know you're gonna watch this tomorrow or on Tuesday. Send me one, send us one, send me the bill. I've stuck my foot in my mouth. I can't back out now.

SPEAKER_12

But we're gonna do that, we're gonna do that installation kit uh again this week, and we're gonna do some t-shirts.

SPEAKER_08

So stay tuned to the page and pay attention to what you gotta do so you can get some free stuff.

SPEAKER_07

Oh yeah. Well, like you said, we want to thank Central Iowa Decent Performance, Moffat's Ford, Elmquest Toyne, Housby Truck Lube, Adobe Lounge, P1P Canopy, Logue Fabrication. Did I get them all? I don't remember. Don't you have a list? I could pull it up, yes. That would be the smartest thing to do. Okay, but alright, right. I think I got them all off the dome. Alright, alright. But uh I think that's all I got.

SPEAKER_06

Okay, close it out already, Liggins.

SPEAKER_07

Close it down. It's echoing in my ear so bad that I'm screwed up on what's going on.

SPEAKER_11

Okay, folks, that is it.

SPEAKER_12

We will see you next week on Watermelons and Wood Chips, the official podcast of Dirt Track Racing.
