We have a child. We're not sure who's going to be able to do that.
SPEAKER_04Welcome, Race Fans, Watermelons and Woodchips, presented by Central Iowa Diesel Performance, episode number 42.
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah. One problem on toilet. There you go.
SPEAKER_04Keep the jet dryer in the way. Yes, best I could come up with. Right. I put you on the spot.
SPEAKER_01That was, I wasn't thinking about it.
SPEAKER_04Uh well, we're one ginger short tonight. Jonathan's racing up in uh Nodak, right? So he raced last night. Yep. And then they officially started the tour today, right? Yep. Think so. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yep, so he was he finished one spot out. I was able to catch his heat. Uh himself. Won the heat race, right? He did. Haven't Shelby William Williams had a little uh tussle coming out of two and sent the old bobcat sideways down the back stretch, but he gathered it up and I think Shelby laid off too because I don't think he meant to get him, but Shelby's a Shelby's doesn't usually race like that. I mean so yeah, and then uh feature time uh Shelby got out in front and he didn't let her go.
SPEAKER_04So Yeah. I mean we w we were able to watch the last, I don't know, six laps or something like that, or I don't know, maybe it was more than that, but by the time we got yeah, 'cause it was I think it was six to go when I got up there.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_04And then they had a caution with three to go. I think that's right. And he just needed he just need was better on the long run or on the high side.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and he kinda he committed to the top like early on. I don't I don't remember seeing him on the bottom in the feature, and it worked for him. It just yeah, the bottom was there in the beginning, and like it just Shelby had too much out front. But yeah, run for him to start. Yeah. And we've got a little bit of we're it sounds like we're gonna be getting some videos. Yeah, did you talk to him?
SPEAKER_04Uh I saw him carrying with him. Yep.
SPEAKER_01He's got Ivan's the blog the vlog master. So boy.
SPEAKER_04We have big red big red's gonna take little red's job over here.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I'm sure he'd probably like to, but he's got a lot of learning to do, as we've seen just a little bit ago. Technical, technical expertise quite.
SPEAKER_04Well, yeah, I mean, being the 4th of July, it's probably not a safe time for Ivan to be around. Oh boy, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Right, right.
SPEAKER_04But uh so Johnny Forklift is down the end filling in for Jonathan tonight. He's just kind of our resident uh backup. He's like he's our bullpen guy. I'm I'm the J V team. It's okay.
SPEAKER_05I get called up to the majors on assignment for a game or two. It's okay.
SPEAKER_01If you're JV, we're already JV. That makes you like JV Jr. How does that work? Freshman team. Freshman team. Oh, there you go.
SPEAKER_05How does it work in in baseball? Is it it's double A. Yeah, it'd be double A. There you go. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Or triple A. Yep, that's how that works.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, not even good enough to be with the Iowa Cubs.
SPEAKER_01They still let you swing the bat, that's all that matters. That's all I care about. That's focus. I get to come in here and sit and talk with you guys and just have fun.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01And I get to wear race shirts. I never get to wear them like when I'm working at tracks because I feel like I can't do that.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I do it all the time. I don't care. Well, it's true. You guys are nerds in your uniforms.
SPEAKER_04I mean nerds. It doesn't count if you're wearing a Bobby Pierce shirt every day. That's true. That's true. That is a very good point.
SPEAKER_05You said you don't want this to be a long one, but I'll try to try to roll back the try to hold back my thoughts on late model racing here as of recent. Even whooping their ass. Because there's only been one winner. Right. It's it's been Bobby Pierce.
SPEAKER_01Pretty few and far between of anybody else. I think did I see uh Max Blair got one last night?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, from 15th.
SPEAKER_01And no caution help. Like he had to drive by those guys.
SPEAKER_05Huddy lost it towards the end of the race, like, probably eight to go or so. And it kind of was what it was. But yeah, I don't know. Huddy hasn't been Huddy lately, in my opinion. Like not that we see him win all the time, but I mean, like, you know, he's always the Lucas Point leader, it seems like, and he's always up front, he's consistent, but I mean he hasn't won since probably a hunt the front show sometime at the end of March, I don't think. Right. I don't know that for a fact, but it's been a while.
SPEAKER_01I saw Ricky unloaded at a Weaver Valley show. Did you see that? I did see that.
SPEAKER_04Paid his paid his hundred dollar oversized tofu. Oversized toe fee, yeah.
SPEAKER_01$75 entry fee or fifty fifty dollar to win. That's a pretty sweet post. Those guys are incredible.
SPEAKER_05I'm do all payments go to the confession stand or how does that work? Well, I believe so. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Yes. And you you have to make lots of payments at the confession stand, yes.
SPEAKER_05They're they were ahead of the curve on just the like funny AI meme stuff. They're so good.
SPEAKER_01All the way around. And honestly, probably two to three times a day, I get a good laugh out of those quotes. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_05They do so good. Like, even if you try to zoom in and pick it apart, it's really hard to because they like they have it. Whatever they're having their chat do, like it's so good. Right. Like, I almost wonder if it's some of its AI and some of it's Photoshop. I'm sure it's like there's got to be some manual oversight there. Right. Because I use AI like image generation, and I'm like, this doesn't look real. Like, yeah, the only the only really good one it ever did for me was the watermelons and wood chips late model scheme. Oh yes. Yeah. That's the only good one it did for me, and the rest of them you can usually pick apart where you're like, oh, it missed this.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, when's Burke uh gonna print that? Do you know? Did you have that schedule?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, well, no, it's okay now because Tyler Herb is engaged to be married since he is having a child with, I believe her name's Emma. So he's off the market, and my wife is devastated. It's bad, dude. It's somber moods around her.
SPEAKER_01So she got so upset that uh she made you go sign paperwork and buy a house, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Starting to.
SPEAKER_01They're gonna build a house. Can you believe it?
SPEAKER_05I ain't never owned anything brand new in my whole life. I can't wait, dude. It's gonna be so awesome. That's awesome. That is great.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and it's not far from here. Yeah, down to Granger. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So hey. So that's awesome. Good for you guys. That uh now you'll you'll see why Josh has gray hair, you know. You're still it'll start coming.
SPEAKER_05You're right, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean, he's responsible for a few of them.
SPEAKER_05I've got a couple of my own. You just can't see them. I've got I've got one prominent one on my mustache, actually. Yeah, it just like popped up in the last few years, and like I've tried to pluck it, it comes back, just comes back, doesn't work, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yep. So anyways, we're off topic.
SPEAKER_05No, sorry. I'm sorry. That's what we do. It's all good.
SPEAKER_04Um but uh big 4th of July festivities for us at Boone um on Saturday, and and uh another good night of of racing and good car count. I mean, we were down a few cars, but it's a holiday though. Right. I that was to be expected.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you know 161 cars across five classes. Yeah, there's a lot of tracks that kill for that, I think.
SPEAKER_05And um a lot of tracks that would kill for half that, right? Truthfully. I mean it's I mean it's tough.
SPEAKER_01A good, efficient show. Yeah, and we knew we had to do that. The fireworks, you know, it actually just lined up, I think our last checkered flag felt like 947. Yeah. Um felt just perfect and got the fireworks show in, which is a good one. The city city always has a good show for that. So yeah.
SPEAKER_05And we caught multiple too, because there were several of them going off around town too, which I believe were private shows.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, Walmart, Walmart parking lot had a few of the things. I saw some of those.
SPEAKER_05I saw some of those on my way out of uh town when I finally was able to get out of the parking lot last night. Um but yeah, we were rolling east out of town and I saw something go off in the parking lot, and I was like, Oh, there's lighting off fireworks in the parking lot at Walmart. Yeah, there's little kids running around, they were hyped.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, well, and you know, like you said, we we try to run that deal efficiently so that we can be done on time. Um, you know, we have that window of 9 45, 10 o'clock. And so I was texting with Justin Adams, the um fire chief, just like kind of letting him know where we were at, and I'm like, man, we're doing good, we're doing awesome. And then it was like caution. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_05Caution is a red flag. We had two features. Caution. I'm like, oh my god. We had two features last night, which the mod light one was surprising, which they had a red, so you can't hold that against them. Right. Like that that you can't hold that against the field, in my opinion. But yeah, that was 19 minutes and some odd seconds, and then the sport mod feature was another almost 20, it was 19, but it was over 19. That one hurt too, and that there were no reds there, they just were acting like jackasses. But you know, and then of course, the last feature of the night, the second hobby feature, five minutes and nine seconds.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And it like I don't from me, because I see that stuff firsthand, right? Because I'm looking at the timing stuff, which anybody that's watching on MRP can follow along and give you the full race time and all that, but like seeing it right there, because I actually have to look at it, you know, to make sure that everyone's getting scored. But to like see that end when it did you know, five minutes, nine seconds, and that was with everybody crossing to take the checker, too. Like they were almost under five minutes as a whole total. And then like you look back and you're like, where did we lose all that time? I didn't start the timer. I'm so sorry.
SPEAKER_01We'll have to shave off like ten minutes.
SPEAKER_05It's all good.
SPEAKER_04It happens. Yeah, so but yeah, it was uh like I said, it was there's good racing though. Yeah, yeah. It was uh that second round, you know, um it did get a little touch and go. But it just um that happens.
SPEAKER_05It was technical, and it's hard with that much rain, too. I mean, how much rain did we have here in Boone?
SPEAKER_04I I thought they said four to five inches. I was gonna say it was like four and three quarter inches.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, which I mean thank goodness we weren't any farther south because like Polk City, Alm, and Slater, I mean, they all got 10 plus.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, a foot of rain.
SPEAKER_05Right, yeah, in like 24 hours too, like 36 hours. I mean, that's crazy.
SPEAKER_01But you get enough you get enough of that you know, water sitting up on the track, and it doesn't matter how much sun it shines sun shines and how much.
SPEAKER_05I mean, they say a good like mother nature rain is the best water for the track, but there's a fine line between uh good rain and way too much, uh in my opinion. I mean, and we saw some of it last night. Like it's pretty rare that you see it be choppy around the top, and it was not all the way, but like especially probably the exit of one right into the top of two. You could see it was a little choppy up there for everyone, it didn't matter what class, you know, and the bottom or infamous hole at the bottom of turn one was there all night. I mean, but some of that stuff, you know, try your dandest, and you can't do it. There's nothing you can do.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, there's nothing you can do about that. Um it's the soaker hole when it sits there with water just sitting on it.
SPEAKER_01Right. Yeah. There's nothing you can do. And yeah, you know, all credit to Rod and all the guys that worked on the track. I mean, they it was in pretty good shape. I mean, for for everything that that thing took in the in the two days.
SPEAKER_05You'd have never thought yesterday or sat or Saturday morning, yesterday morning. You'd you'd have never thought most places would have canceled. I mean, there was standing water in the infield.
SPEAKER_01Well, plus there was an 86% chance of rain at 5 30. I'm glad we didn't cancel on that. I know. And then it didn't rain a drop. I mean, it didn't even the clouds weren't even in the hell, the sun came out.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, I called Josh because somebody had texted me. I think it was uh Hunter Possum's dad was had texted me. He's like, Hey, did like will you guys try to roll this in? I'm like, Yeah. And then I looked, I'm like, what is he talking about? And I looked and it was like, yeah, 86% chance of rain at five. And I'm like, are you kidding me?
SPEAKER_01I think that meant for the state of Iowa. Yeah. Somewhere in the state, there was an 80%.
SPEAKER_05I mean, we've everywhere's had a chance of rain.
SPEAKER_04But then like four hours later, three hours later, whenever it was, it was like it was gone. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05That would that wasn't a cloud in the sky either. Right. Like for the rest of the evening.
SPEAKER_01No, before we get too far away from this, too, I do as the resident hobby homer, I have to point out that leave it to the hobbies to show the rest of them how you run a green to checkered race, boys.
SPEAKER_05I mean Are you counting the first one that they had too? Oh, okay, only the second one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, did they do it in the first two?
SPEAKER_05It wasn't great, but it was it wasn't a 20-minute door deal. Right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05That second one was really good though.
SPEAKER_04It was. Oh, yeah, because even our even our sheets, like our results sheets show that the time. They should show the total time, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um mod lights were 18 minutes 33 seconds. Yeah. So um, but like you said, they had the had the rollover in that one.
SPEAKER_05Um you can't charge them with the like three to five minutes or so. Right. But even still for them, I mean, a 15-minute feature, I mean, that's pretty atypical for them. Right. It's they're usually a lot better than that. Even with several cautions. Right.
SPEAKER_04Um, Austin Gray gets it done. Again. Yep. Okay. Well, he, you know, like you said. He had to fight for this one though. He did. Yep. Yep. Um, Charlie Brown goes second, but Austin passed 10 cars um and then made it over to Snake Farm afterwards with JD and the and the boys. I got some Snapchats from him. Yeah. Nice. Yep. Um, Charlie Brown goes second. Uh Riley Clem goes third. Garrett Barber goes fourth. Travis Stenzlin goes fifth. And you know, Travis, uh we haven't seen him has he been. Second time, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um I think, unless he was there at the Frostbuster. Two, maybe three.
SPEAKER_04I don't think he was either. Yeah. Yeah. So and he, you know, he ran up front for the most of the race. Um but uh Austin kind of snuckered him there on a on a restart. And uh but uh like I said, Austin's kind of back to I mean, not that he wasn't fast.
SPEAKER_05It's a status quo for him, honestly. Right. Right. He's got this place figured out. He's he's good there. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01As he would say, he's just gonna see what he can do to screw that up going forward 100%.
SPEAKER_05That's one of those things, though, that we'll get into later with question of the week about superstitions. If you just tell yourself you're gonna screw it up, you won't.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there's a lot of truth to that. A lot of people believe in that.
SPEAKER_04So reverse psychology. That's right. Let's see. So hobby stock feature number one was seven minutes and fifty-one seconds. Well, it's not bad then. Okay, second feature, four minutes and fifty-one seconds. So the two hobby features combined were less than several other features. Yes.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, you are correct on your just saying, boys. Yeah, yeah. You know, and it just so happens I got a hobby stock shirt on, too. I'm sure Saul will like that because this shirt's the best thing they've put out all year. He's had a terrible year. Yeah, Saul. Yeah. They'll get it figured out though. That's one thing they won't quit.
SPEAKER_04Right, absolutely. Uh A feature number one went to the pushmaster, Eric Knutson. Uh hell of a finish. Yeah, he had to work for that one. It was a burner. Uh yeah, Braden Hurley was sacked. From Grand Island, Nebraska. Which Hurley led most of the race. Yeah, I think he led maybe every lap pretty much all of them. Uh and man, Canute a couple times you could see him drive it in there, drive it in there, and then he likes he's like, uh no, I don't want to do that. Yeah. And then that last one, he would you could just see the car was just rolled up the whole time and just stayed there.
SPEAKER_01I I just can't get it out of my mind. When I see him back out of a situation, I'm like, you don't want to use the pushmaster.
SPEAKER_04We gotta start selling more of those things. Yeah, you gotta beat up the car a little bit and sell a little more product here. Use your front bumper. Yeah. Bash in the quarter panel of everybody else.
SPEAKER_05Don't use your front bumper like De Reagan had to. Okay. Lose a radiator. Not that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that one looked pretty bad.
SPEAKER_05That was that first that was that first feature.
SPEAKER_01There was a couple, and then Shane Butler. I don't think his was a radiator, though. I think he was as his was in everything.
SPEAKER_05I think that was the entire bottom side of the book.
SPEAKER_04I was gonna say, yeah, and then was that did he lose a uh drive shaft too? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01That was a big boom. Yes, it was.
SPEAKER_04Braden Gifford, though, goes from 24th to third, so he gets a bad dog now biscuit in the heat race. Yep. Oh my gosh, so yeah.
SPEAKER_01I didn't even realize that until today. I saw the Doom Scroll and I was like, oh, that's who it was. Okay. But yeah, he passed a hell of a big thing. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_04He yeah, he was ripping through the field, and then yeah, like I mean, I think he passed a bunch of cars right at the beginning, like just ripping the top side because everybody was kind of rolling around the bottom, and then um, but yeah, past 21 cars. Um that's that's a heck of a run for for Braden. It's a lot of cars. Uh Tasker Timmerman goes fourth. Joey Young with another top five. Um Joey's my guy. He's such a good dude. He's such a nice guy.
SPEAKER_01Always stops by the pit shack, says hi. So I think he's leaving in the good karma. And he just, you know. Yeah. I just I like to see him do good.
SPEAKER_04So yeah. Second feature goes to Will Smith. Smith's had a heck of a night. They picked up three of the features.
SPEAKER_01They've taken a lot of trophies home from him this year.
SPEAKER_04Yeah as a group. Yeah. So Will wins that one from seventh. Corey Vanderwilt goes second. Justin Frederick goes third. Andy Smith. He was up there for a while. Um, started on the pin. He got fourth. Uh Joe Wollenhopp goes fifth. Um so but there again, uh, you know, Will just he likes to be up on the the cushion just ripping the top, but you know, with the way the racetrack was, you had to be on the bottom, and uh he did slow down and start to hit his marks on the bottom.
SPEAKER_01And um there was a couple times that he he found the bumps and she got upset on him a little bit, but he reeled it back in. He did a good job.
SPEAKER_04Sorry, I keep yawning, man. The baseball tournament today wore me out. I'm telling you sitting in the sun on it. Oh my gosh. It'll do it. Yeah. Yeah. Um Sport mods 19 minutes, five seconds.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that reminds me. Cliff Barber stops by, tells me the way the mod lights did the week before. He goes, They keep racing like that, I'm gonna start calling them the sport mod lights. Which sport mods get a bad rap a little bit. They do. Sometimes they'll have really good features, but back in the day is I think what Cliff was going off of. Because back in the day, man, sport mod features.
SPEAKER_05They're just abysmal everywhere.
SPEAKER_01Oh my goodness. Until they kind of got their feet under him, but yeah. I just cracked up when he said that, so I'm sure I was gonna share that with you.
SPEAKER_04So another Smith picks up the win. Mikey um wins that one. And uh, you know, even when I talked to him in his interview, he didn't wasn't still still wasn't like a hundred percent um happy with the car. You know, he said it it's got more there. Didn't have any brakes, he said, right? Yeah, yeah. So yeah, they didn't have any brakes. I'm like, we'll just un unhook him next time, I guess. Yeah, clearly you don't need him. Right. But uh yeah, so he ends up winning from ninth. Uh good run for Will Wolf. Um goes 11 to 2.
SPEAKER_05Which he's won just about everywhere, I think he's been this year. Excellent. Will's been fast. Yeah, I don't think he's won a boom, but he's won just about everywhere else.
SPEAKER_04Uh our little buddy uh Monster Truck Mayhem Dalton swizzle sticks.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Daytona swizzle sticks.
SPEAKER_04Uh gets uh goes third. So he had a good run. Yeah, he didn't get it.
SPEAKER_05He started deep. He came out or he didn't come out of a B, but you start seventh?
SPEAKER_01I think that's what Kristen said. Was it seventh?
SPEAKER_05I thought it was farther back than that.
SPEAKER_01Seventh. Had the wrong gear in, apparently. That's she told me that when we got there.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, well, that's what uh Jerry was talking about um in the heat race, and he's passing cars. I'm like, uh whatever you do, I think this is the best finish you've had here all year, so just leave that gear in.
SPEAKER_01Maybe just build off of that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, right? You know, yeah, he had a good run. Don't use another car to to wall climb and keep that gear in.
SPEAKER_01Don't even get me started on that.
SPEAKER_04Watch out for them right sides. Yeah, man. Uh Jason Carney goes fourth. Um, Gage Hilgenberg, a good run. He was kind of ripping the top there at the end.
SPEAKER_05He almost got Kearney at the end there. Yeah, he was they were neck and neck.
SPEAKER_04Uh CB25 goes sixth. Um, but man, this this sport mod race um has probably one of my uh Moffat Mayhem uh selections anyway. I don't know if it's my full vote or not, but they were getting after it. Uh-huh and wrecking the shit out of each other. Was it Pistotnik and Carter? Yeah, Pistotnik and Carney. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That one looked to me, and it I know everything looks different. I asked Dayton about it last night when we were on our way home. I said, Did it look like they were gonna come off the wall? They look like they were coming off the wall into the crowd because all those guys were coming by and he's like, No, man, he goes, I just got in the gas and like But it from our view that would you? Yeah. From our view, I'm like, 'cause we've seen cars when they ricochet off that wall and come back out. Oh my god, can that do some damage? Guys get to flying and flipping and well yeah.
SPEAKER_04The way he hit like spins back around, knows the traffic, and I'm just like, oh baby, here comes the Dukes of Hazard moment right off the nose of that thing. Yep. But everybody did a good job avoiding that. Um but yeah, that one was a little rough. Um Bieber was up there for a while. I think in honestly, like Randy Havlick was up there um at one point in time, and then they got tangled up at the end, and yeah, like like I went and talked to Burke after, and he's like, Yeah, I saw a lot of that stuff go down. I was just like, What in the world? So um but yeah, uh, let's see, stock cars. Love for the mods. No, yeah. Well, the way the sheet reads, it's not in order of how we're the guy that puts that stuff in order. That's right.
SPEAKER_01I get the same flack from Dave because I hand him the lineups and they're all out of order for us.
SPEAKER_04Uh Devin Smith picks up another win. Last week he got the heavyweight belt, and this week he gets another piece of hardware um going 10 to 1. Um Austin Miners, another good run too. Like uh passing cars nine to two. Josh Daniels goes third. David Smith, 22nd to fourth. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he took home the envelope. Yes, he did. He passed a hell of a lot of cars.
SPEAKER_05Him and Jimmy, between him and Jimmy Gustin, between just the two of them, they passed, I believe it was 30 31, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So uh Jared Myers had a good run. He was up there for a while. Um racing with those guys for the lead. Um yeah, so he started fifth, and yeah, he was up, he was up front there. Um but yeah, Devin was kind of ripping the top, and then once he got up, he figured out the middle, yeah. That was the thing. He was able to figure out the middle.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, and I think too, like when he passed, because Jared pushed over in two, and that's when he got got by him, I think, if I remember right.
SPEAKER_05I but yeah, I think you're right. Yeah, because they were pushing they were it seemed like a lot of them were pushing up hard, especially when they'd come out of the bottom or like not out of the bottom, but they were all trying to fight for the bottom. So you had a couple guys that were a groove or groove out, and then yeah, they were slowly starting to really push each other out. I mean, and it probably looked worse from our vantage point, like up and on the grandstand side. But it just seemed like they were pushing farther and farther and farther, but they were also two, three, four wide at times.
SPEAKER_04Right. Um that one was a 16-minute deal. Um so not near as bad, but yeah, it was just like we'd get rolling, caution. You know, get rolling, caution, you know. Um so I don't know. It always seems like when we it's always when we're like in a hurry too. Yeah. Oh yeah. Always when we're trying to just hook up. Um IMCA modified DE outside services, IMCA modified, Jake McBurney finally getting a win. Um and I've been talking to you about it too. It's like, man, Jake's gonna like be really good. He's he's been really good on the bottom, it seems like. And which is wild because when he was winning all those modified races before, like whatever was it, two, three years ago, he'd win he won like four races in a row. Off the top. Just ripping the top. And then uh, but this this year he's been really, really good on the bottom. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And uh I mean supplied some of that stock car. I wonder knowledge to it, yeah. Could be the stock cars are typically bottom feeders, right?
SPEAKER_01Not always, but it's slowing him down a little. I don't know. That's a good point.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and like he's just he's passed a lot of cars. If we were to go back and look at this sheet and add up, because it's just like, you know, he doesn't get out of a heat race into an invert or something. Yeah. And then or if he does make the invert, he's gotta start like 11th, like he did. And he he's passed a lot of cars, just finally got to the point where he passed enough of them. Right, yeah. Yeah, he passed all he passed them all. Right.
SPEAKER_01Should I tell him there's a hard charger report in there? There is. No, I know there's a hard one. Okay, yeah, all right.
SPEAKER_04I use it for the year end. Yeah, hell yeah. Yeah. Um, but Nick Meyer had a good run. Nick kind of reeled him back in at the end.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that was a weird feature though, because like if we if we hadn't had a caution, it was over. Yep. Yeah, and like I my wife's a big Chaz Baca fan.
SPEAKER_01She is. Yes. My boy Baca. Taylor, she's not serious. Yeah. She's she's married to Cole.
SPEAKER_05She does want a hair clip, though. Yes, she does. Yeah, the hair clips would actually have they had hair clips made and that actually has like the mod. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I think it's the same place the same place that did Jump. Yeah, they're actually pretty neat.
SPEAKER_01I think Bobcat's buying a hair clip for himself.
SPEAKER_04It's easy to grow it back out.
SPEAKER_01Just gonna put it on his tail. Oh, geez.
SPEAKER_05A mob tail. Yeah. Anyways, but yeah, like anyways, yeah. You'd have yeah, if they wouldn't have had a yellow, I have no doubt Chaz was gonna just wax. It was something about after that, after that, not only the caution, but then Chaz takes the lead again after the restart, and he just I'm assuming that's a like, oh, I really gotta be on my game, like at the Fields Bunch backup, maybe type thing, and I'm sure that happens, but it just seemed like he missed some slight marks, especially on the exit of two, and then Jake got by, and then Nick got by, and then like he was still fast, like he held his own for third, but it just it wasn't the same after that yellow. And I don't know, maybe the tires went away or yeah, it could have too.
SPEAKER_04And racetracked.
SPEAKER_01Did you see Mills? You saw his right rear, didn't you?
SPEAKER_04Uh-uh.
SPEAKER_01Nothing left. Really? Yeah. Uh when he spun, it delaminated. Oh. Yep. So that knowing that makes me wonder too. You see it race change like that. Then some of the other guys, maybe it didn't completely come apart, but they chunked or whatever it might be.
SPEAKER_05And I will say something though. You don't see many guys drive as hard as Jeremy does, though. Oh, you know, and he knows how to take care of his stuff. Right. I I'm a firm believer in that, but he's one of those guys that I mean, he was just he struggled. It seemed like, yes, he made the A and everything, but like he struggled early on in that feature, and I think it got to a point where he was just trying to rip it just to see, just to see, like, well, maybe I'll you know I've got speed, so maybe I'll just start passing guys, you know. And yeah, do you don't see Jeremy Mill spin out unassisted? Right, I don't think ever. Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_01He was in the top four when he went around, wasn't he?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I think he'd got four or five. Yeah, he he had gotten up there. Um in the way the car that makes sense that if it did come apart because the way the like it was just a weird, like it was slow, it was kind of like a shake, and then it just like yeah, yep. Um but anyway, uh Todd Shute gets fourth. Um he started tenth, but he lost a bunch of spots to start. Um they kind of got bottlenecked up there, and so he fell back probably six spots. Yeah. So he pro I mean, honestly, he was probably back to anywhere from 14th to 16th and go back to fourth. Um Chase Weimer goes fifth, Saurman sixth. Um Tevor Fitzgibbon goes seventh.
SPEAKER_05R BMX legend.
SPEAKER_04Yes. So thanks for the pedal, yeah, Trevor. So anyway, we were gonna do the unboxing, but he just handed it to me at the racetrack.
SPEAKER_01Couldn't even give you a box. Unbelievable. Basically, just did an unpedaling. But I'm gonna tell you what, guys, if this thing was on anything, you you would not want to have skin come in contact with that. Uh absolutely. Or it would be shredded cheese. Like that is something else. Super cool. It's really cool.
SPEAKER_04I mean what it I wonder if they're even it's like can you find those on eBay? But way anything, probably. Is it expedo? Is that what it's expedition? I think so. Uh yep. Careful. Just expedo. X pedo. Oh, yeah, calm down.
SPEAKER_01Very careful about what you're doing over there.
SPEAKER_05Uh it is neat though. The camera probably can't see it. Zoom in on that, Garrett.
SPEAKER_01Garrett knows what to do here. He knows. Look out. Here it comes.
unknownThere we go.
SPEAKER_042014 BMX pedal promo with Trevor Fitz.
SPEAKER_01No way.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Really? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's awesome.
SPEAKER_05Um that's crazy. God, Jonathan's chair is so uncomfortable. Sorry, I know that's off topic, but God.
SPEAKER_01You know what? He always says it's really comfortable.
SPEAKER_05Probably for him, I'm sure, but not for me. Um anyway, I've just my ADD just. Sorry, yeah. No, you're gonna join me.
SPEAKER_01That's Mills' right rear. Oh, yeah. So she definitely came apart.
SPEAKER_04Uh well, and you know, and I mean, honestly, though, too, like we haven't really had a night where the it's been that hot. Right. And the the racetrack gets beat up by the sun more than anything. Yeah. In my opinion, I think it's the sun.
SPEAKER_05I think it's a good thing. No, it was sunny. It was sunny all afternoon, like no late cloud.
SPEAKER_04It was great for the infield because the infield was a few. It dried out, right?
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04But it's just so tough on that, you know. And that's typically why we had moved everything back later in the season, historically, because of for that reason.
SPEAKER_05Not fight the sun for an extra hour. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um, but obviously, like the time constraints, and we're still getting a lot of cars and you know, having to be done um for 4th of July. So I I honestly don't mind being done earlier. So, yeah. Yep. It is kind of nice. But yeah, so you kind of throw all those factors in there, and uh it is what it is, but um Well, I gotta tell you, you guys talked about Fitz for a second with the pedal.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. When he stopped by the pit shack, he showed me a picture, he found it. It's from the commercial he did. And he's like, look and he looks like he's fifteen years old. He said he was twenty something. They made him shave his arms and everything to make himself look way young. But you talk about a baby face.
SPEAKER_04Right. Yeah. Wow. That was the Dairy Queen commercial. Yep. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05He did a Dairy Queen promo.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. Dude, he did so much. You haven't even listened to the whole thing yet, have you? No, I haven't.
SPEAKER_04He's literally the most interesting man in the world. Like the Dosakis guy.
SPEAKER_01He's easily the most interesting guest we've ever met because he's done a lot of stuff.
SPEAKER_04So has his own signature pedal was on a Dairy Queen. He was on a Fila commercial. Yep.
SPEAKER_05Did he get like free Dairy Queen for life or something?
SPEAKER_01Uh no, he said he was very upset that he didn't.
SPEAKER_04Right. He said he would have rather had his like a Dairy Queen gold card or something.
SPEAKER_05If I was his agent, I would have never let that. Trevor, don't get back into the EMX stuff with a character. For a flat 65% off the top.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's a hell of a deal. I can do my own business.
SPEAKER_01I think we all are.
SPEAKER_0565%. I was gonna go more, but it's Trevor's. That's a good agent fee. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I can knock it out. You cut him a deal. Yeah. Right? You cut him a deal. Um, but yeah, um, let's I'm trying to think. Was there anything else? I mean, obviously the the the fireworks and stuff, um, getting done right at basically right at time. Right at time, which is awesome. Yep. Um, yeah, and then this week we'll do the baseball night. Is it gonna be this week? Yeah, we'll say we had to reschedule that because that was our rain out. Was the youth, and then we can't really do it any other days because we go into everybody's state tournaments, like the King of the Catwalks week is all the state tournaments, then after that, most everybody's done. So um, but yeah, so we'll do the we'll reschedule the baseball night this for this week.
SPEAKER_01Um, all that stuff will be perfect. Because I heard there might be a beer special.
SPEAKER_04Yes, that's also that's why I had this actually out here, this empty can out here, because Allie's running a beer special on the action track ale this weekend. Okay. So um she's gonna have all that stuff put up on the baseball, beer, and racing.
SPEAKER_01What the hell more do you need?
SPEAKER_04Dude, that's like my life right now. I well, and I was telling Josh, like, we had because this well, this will be Tuesday, but when this comes out, but we're recording on Sunday. We had a baseball tournament today, Cooper's got a game tomorrow, Monday, Kellen's got a game Tuesday, Cooper's got a game Wednesday. We have practices on Thursday, another game possibly Friday, and then we play again Saturday, Sunday. So busy man. And then next week's date after that. So once we get through that, um what did I say? Four more weeks in two weeks. Yeah, it's like Groundhog Day, like see the shadow, you know. And it's like, oh, you got six more weeks of baseball, you dumb bastard. Sign up to be a coach for another team. Right.
SPEAKER_01I am not coaching football, so what I you should sign up to coach like an adult soft like slope of softball.
SPEAKER_04Church league softball church. There you go. Yeah, church league softball. I I would rather just do the beer league and and sit and watch and you know I could be third base coach for like a soft beer league softball team.
SPEAKER_01We can manage like a fantasy.
SPEAKER_04What's your job? Fantasy league. Manage a baseball team, fantasy league. Little league? No, fantasy league.
SPEAKER_01Fantasy league.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and we did start wrestling already too, so that's I don't need anybody.
SPEAKER_01Uh wrestling doesn't start till winter. You need to put in a note because something's wrong.
SPEAKER_05Hopefully, you guys have all the air conditioning turned off in the room because that's how you get in shape. Oh, yeah. Right now. Oh, we don't, we don't know.
SPEAKER_04It's got 85, 90 degrees all the time.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Anyway, I'm just going off the rails right now. So you're good. And actually, it's a good time for a break. It is. Um, and then when we come back, we'll continue to talk about some of the other things and happenings and our question and everything else. So um, we'll send it off to our partners. Um let's see, we got Central Iowa Diesel Performance. Yeah. I'm just looking at the deal. Central Iowa diesel performance um in Adobe Lounge, and then when we come back, we will get into some of this other stuff. You are watching Watermelons and Witch Dips, we'll be right back. SPEAKER_04Welcome back, RaceFans, Watermelons and Woodchips, presented by Central Iowa Diesel Performance. And back from the break. We got some uh we had to check in on our buddy Jonathan. They got modified's going right now at the tour. So live action. Right. Live action. Yeah. So um man, that you know, speaking of the tour, like what a cool event that whole deal is. It is.
SPEAKER_05I've never been to it, I've never gone on it, I've never had anything to do with it, but yeah, it's always like without really knowing much, like people know what the Dakota Mont tour is. Right. Like it's a big deal.
SPEAKER_04And by does Byron run is he in charge of that deal now? Yeah. Yep. Yeah. So uh and what a good dude that guy is. Yeah. Yeah, he's so much fun to be around like at Supernationals when they come down. And um, but yeah, like just like it's uh such a cool deal. Um and you know, they get to is it six, five races? Six races.
SPEAKER_01It's si no six and seven days? Yeah, I think it's six and seven days. But it's the you think of the you know coming together with all the racetracks to figure out the facilitate of like, oh, we'll be here this day and we'll be here that day. And moving herd of race cars going from track to track and into another country and it's well and I think it helps because it's only two classes.
SPEAKER_05Or isn't it?
SPEAKER_01Is it three? I thought sport mods were on it. Are they not?
SPEAKER_05It's okay, so yeah, it's just the the top tiers of the divisions, yeah. But I mean it's definitely easier with only two classes, and as far as I know, I don't think they run any supports or anything. I think it's just those two. Yeah. But could be yeah. It's a neat deal, like I said. I've always wanted to go, and I'm kind of upset Jonathan didn't ask me to go because they got to take five timers rigged. So they didn't have to rough it in the truck.
SPEAKER_04So when I yep, so when I showed up, I had I took him a toe to shirts, so he's got shirts up there, and and that's what they were getting ready to go, and they were getting backing up the the R V and getting it all hooked up. The icon. Yeah. I'm like, I asked Ivan, I said, What I said, are you going with him? He's like, Oh no, grandpa's taking his his uh motorhome. I'm like, Oh, you guys are riding in style, that's so but um no, it's just a cool deal. Um I was just gonna look this up if I get my computer to work, but um to get the whole schedule of events. Um but yeah, so they go the tracks are Jamestown, Nodak, Estevan, Williston, Southwest and Dakota. Yeah. So yeah, like like I said, just a really cool event and uh a lot of good racing to watch on IMCA TV all all week long. So um but uh it's like a mini hell tour.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Kind of. Could you imagine being on a hell the hell tour for 33 days? I don't know how them guys do it. I mean, you see like there's only a couple, none of the real big timers do it because they're chasing Lucas or World of Outlaws or whatever, but like a lot of the top tier regional. Yeah, like Tanner English is doing it all this year. Jason Fegger always does it. Shannon Bab. Shannon Bab. You know, and like but you'll have guys pop in for a minute, like Brandon Shepard's there tonight. Um I can't remember where they're at, but uh you know, and like Billy Moyer, you know, like he's on it this year. I think he's been to every stop.
SPEAKER_01But is it a short warm one? Is he has he been on it? No. See, that's another thing from the Trevor episode you missed. That might be the real that I really like.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. You just you just poking.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna keep doing it. Well, and it's you said he your son's gonna stab you, so yeah, you're right.
SPEAKER_04And now I know what you're doing. I remember what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_05No you can't argue with winning results. You really can't. No, you can't you can't. I implore you to name one person that has beaten him in the last month. Name one.
SPEAKER_01His wife.
SPEAKER_05No.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think she does. She's got control. I don't think so. Everybody's wife has control. You'll figure that out sooner.
SPEAKER_05That's why Tyler Herb skipped out. Oh, it's gonna rain at Ms. He was scared of Bobby. Oh gosh, how the hell do you pronounce that? Oh, the yeah. Muskegum or yeah, Muskegum. DJ probably killed me. I probably pronounced it wrong. He knows how to pronounce it. Muscogum or muskegum. Yeah, Tyler Herb. Oh, there it looks like it's gonna rain. We're not gonna go. They didn't get a drop.
SPEAKER_04Anyways, moving on. Uh I really liked the the question, the album quest toeing question of the week this week, which was what's your pre-race superstition?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I like that too.
SPEAKER_04Uh you're a resident race car driver, retired race car driver now. Did you have one?
SPEAKER_01I did. Um I didn't develop it until a couple years in. Uh and it's kind of morbid how it how I came to it. Okay. Uh and it's it's we saw quite a few of them said it that they pray before the race. Um, but after I witnessed uh a couple of deaths at the racetrack, that's what made me start doing it. And it was just it would be whether I went out for hot laps or my first race of the night, I'd be sitting in staging, and I'd just close my eyes and say a quick one, and that's just what I started doing, and then yeah. But I didn't have I didn't the okay, I had a green race car. So that right. Yeah, you didn't subscribe to the green. I broke every tradition right there. Um uh the chicken on race day. I love chicken. Why the hell would I not want to eat chicken? Yeah, you know, and I've learned like a lot of those ones that people said, and I'm like, oh, maybe I'll try that. Those are the days I had bad days. So I'm like, screw that. So um I do think there's a lot of mindset when it comes to superstition. But hey, whatever works. I mean, if you give better interviews in the infield because you didn't eat chicken that day, well, don't eat chicken. Right. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. So I've got to do it.
SPEAKER_04Did you miss a strict uh hamburger and cheeseburger?
SPEAKER_01And I know why, too. That's good. Because they're damn good.
SPEAKER_05Did you subscribe to the no $50 bills or were you too poor for that?
SPEAKER_01Boy, I never saw a $50 bill.
SPEAKER_05Mine were just two twenties at the end of the night.
SPEAKER_01Mine were missing the zero on the call. They just had fives. Yeah, that $50 deal. I don't know where in the world that ever came from. But I where were we at? Was it independent? Somebody came up and I went to hand a $50 for something, and they're like, oh, you can have that. And I'm like, well, I'll make that deal every day.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, they're ready to give it away.
SPEAKER_01Kidding me? Like they didn't want to take it.
SPEAKER_05We had someone come up later too, and I had made change. And I was like, oh, is a 50 okay? And they're like, yeah, why wouldn't it be? I was like, well, I didn't know if you subscribed to the whole fifth 50s or bad.
SPEAKER_01Is it Dallin? Uh no, Dallin wasn't there. Or not Dallin. Damon, sorry. It might have been it might have been Damon. Yeah, $50 bill. $50 is $50. And $20 is $20. That's correct.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Well, I'm trying to think of I mean, I remember like when my cousin was was racing and um the only thing that I can remember would be like Brian Price and I me, Brian Price and Snail. We would you'd have to you'd go drink a beer before the um before the feature.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_04Like when like Jeff Olson was racing, or you know, like some of those like we had like a ritual that was our we called it the ritual where you had to ha you had to drink a beer before they rolled out. That was that was the only thing that I can really remember.
SPEAKER_05And then uh were you ever cutting it close where you had to like chug it or shotgun it? Oh yeah. Alright.
SPEAKER_04Yes. That I mean you had it was the deal.
SPEAKER_01He backed out for the feature and it was go time. Like you had to get to the catwalk and get one down.
SPEAKER_04Is that it was before that. You get the car ready or like geo strapped in.
SPEAKER_01We'd oh you're finishing and you're like, oh, we gotta do it right in front of him. Like, man, this is a good one.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah, like now he's like, You sons of bitch.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_05Right. Speaking of sprint cars, who did I see? I saw something on Facebook today. Um, I don't know if it was it was a 410 show, I don't remember where, but somebody's crew guy left their phone like on the like inside the cockpit, and they found it when they were out like packing the track in before a heat race, I think. And they're sitting there holding it, like flashing it out the window, like trying to get somebody to you know that they can't stop, they'll kill it or whatever. And they ended up oh gosh, that's gonna bother me. I can't remember who it was, but they ended up going real low on the inside of the track and they like flung it out like a frisbee. Like, I'm not gonna not gonna take one for that. Yeah, they one of my crew guys left their phone in the cockpit of the car.
SPEAKER_01It's like the NASCAR uh cautions where guys throw out a water bottle for a caution. Right.
SPEAKER_04No, it was before the race, but yeah. Um same deal though, with like the you know, obviously like with Jason's car, it was green for a couple years that year that we won the national point, so everything was it was everything was green. So um yeah, and Isaac's stuff is green.
SPEAKER_05I don't understand where that comes from, though. Like people just woke up one day and said, Well, green's not a lucky color.
SPEAKER_04Well, yeah, I don't know. I mean, Steve Kinzer's stuff was green with Quaker State.
SPEAKER_01Remember Scott Bloomquist's quote? Yeah. Pretty sure money's green. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, yeah, I it it's never bothered, never bothered me. The one year I went away from green, I couldn't win a heat race. Right. So in the blue car. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I do remember that. We were putting green stickers on it just for hope. Yeah. It did not work.
SPEAKER_05Just for hope. It was bad. That car may have sucked, but it was something. Could have been an operator.
SPEAKER_01It could have had something to do with the four-year-old shocks that were on it, too.
SPEAKER_05So I mean that was back before that stuff really mattered.
SPEAKER_01It was well, it was back when the guys that were winning all the time figured out that it did matter.
SPEAKER_05Well, I suppose that's true.
SPEAKER_01The other guys did not. So do you have any pre-res pre-raised superstitions? I mean, you do an important job. And you may shrug your shoulders about that, but you do. Yeah. Anything you do that you're like, I gotta make sure I do this a certain way, like, I don't know, get the um decoder connected to your setup. Yeah. That means that happened last night.
SPEAKER_05So when orbits update, so I launched orbits last night to do timing and scoring. I don't know, it's 550. Do you want to update? No. Like, I'm not doing that. It'll be fine. Well, then it wouldn't load the races, and like I couldn't pull in the races, and I'm like, okay, I'm like, alright, so shut it down. Open it back up. Do you want to update? Yes, I do. Boy, that took forever. It took five, six minutes, gets it, it gets itself unpackaged, launched in the new version of Orbits. And I'm like, okay, I gotta start from scratch here. I'm gonna set this up for Boon Speedway. I have no backups because when you create uh like it essentially treats it as new every time, and I don't know why it can't like pull in the old stuff. Because if you get a good stretch with no updates, I mean you can look back through all your nights. Like it'll just have it all pre-packaged, like you click the night, and then you can go over and like look at all the races, all the results. Other programs don't function that way. Anyways, so I'm like, okay, I get it updated, all that, and I'm setting it up, and I'm cannot figure out why the decoder won't connect. Which for those of you at home, the transponder sits on the car, shoots a signal out, hits basically a speaker wire in the ground, runs up to the decoder, and then into the computer. So there's your fun fact.
SPEAKER_01Instantaneously with 24 cars going over it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, anyways. Pretty cool. So I'm struggling, I make a phone call, Zach doesn't answer, which is fine, he was working somewhere else, and because he used to work at orbit and or for mylapse technically. And I'm like, okay, well then it finally dawned on me. I have to you have to actually set it up for circle track racing. It's not just a default, sure, which is silly in my opinion, but they use it for boat racing, like underwater stuff, like dirt bikes, they use it, they use it at cross-country meets, like it's weird. But anyway, so yes, I had a minor moment of panic, and I got it figured out right as the first mod light heat race was taking the green. So I'm like, well, Sarah, handle this, which she's fine, obviously. You know, she can hand scores meat races, right? Or just about anything. But then, of course, they have that yellow that holds them up for three or four minutes in turn one and two. So I was able to get everything.
SPEAKER_01So the lifetiming worked the whole night?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, so as far as anyone was concerned, it worked all night. Right. Yes. Anyways, but no, as far as pre-race stuff, um, I don't think so, other than getting the zins arranged, I suppose.
SPEAKER_04You gotta make sure you're set for zins for the I did, yeah. And that's funny you said that because I was uh in the in the pits, and I'm like, where are my dad mints at? I can find them. They were admints. That's a good one. Okay, they were already did not have them, so I had to go get some and come right back, made it made it back.
SPEAKER_05Thank God you can drive side by sides on the streets in town.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I did. I just shot right over to the the gas station, came back, and we were ready to go right for hot laps. So yeah. Um but yeah, I mean some of these uh superstitions like yeah, my grandma was always big on like the no chicken.
SPEAKER_01Where do you suppose that came from, too?
SPEAKER_05Like it had to be I have a feeling that it's not as much of a oh, I can't have chicken. It's that you shouldn't have chicken strips at the racetrack because then that settles while you're racing, and then maybe your uh some your stomach's upset.
SPEAKER_01I think somebody did it, somebody ate it. Uh-huh. Oh, this is bad luck. And then everybody's like, yeah, he's right.
SPEAKER_04Um I speaking of that, Granny Anderson said if you don't poop on race day, you won't do good.
SPEAKER_01He must not have yesterday. Ended up on his lid. Pooping while he was flipping outside down. Jeez, he went twice one day. Right. Yeah. Uh Ted Gold had a pretty funny one. Did you see that? Yeah. No bedroom activity. Okay. And Red Bull before hot laps.
SPEAKER_04That's quite the combination.
SPEAKER_01That explains. Those are backwards. Right. Yeah, I think you might be on to something.
SPEAKER_05Ted, we need a follow-up on this one. Was that do you have these backwards? Because I feel like your day would be a lot better if they were flip-flop.
SPEAKER_01Red Bull gives you wings. And yeah, I don't know that I've seen Ted fly. So I definitely don't want to see him fly in the bedroom.
SPEAKER_04So some of them were Oh my god. Sorry. Sorry, Ted.
SPEAKER_01I knew I'd give you something to laugh about. And Jonathan's not here to say really bad stuff, so I've got to throw something at you.
SPEAKER_04Um look a lot of guys listen to the same music. Yep. Um before every race. Everybody's got a hype song, though. Yeah, that you know, and that's that's one thing. We did have, like I said, when Jeff Olson and and I and those guys were riding or racing around, we did have like a CD that we had in the RV.
SPEAKER_05Did you burn it off of lime wire? Please. Probably.
SPEAKER_04I'm I'm yeah, I'm guessing it would have been. Hell yeah. Stick.
SPEAKER_01We're past the uh Statue of Limitations of that, I think.
SPEAKER_05Uh the Statue of Limitations. Like the Statue of Liberty or the Statute.
SPEAKER_01It's I I have an entire library.
SPEAKER_05Were you really taking over for Jonathan?
SPEAKER_01I have an entire library of things. The guy that I used to work with, we have a book of things he used to say like that. Oh and uh and then when Jonathan when we start doing this, I'm like, oh, this is great. So yeah, it's gold. Um Carter Coop, steak sandwich, Bluetooth tires, never gonna do that again. So uh Carter, I'll eat your steak sandwich, bud.
SPEAKER_04Well, it's just it is cool like to hear those things like and how it just sticks in your brain for for whatever reason, you know. Um like I said, I'm sure there's more of them we were racing all the time, but I just don't subscribe to that.
SPEAKER_05And I granted I've never been a racer, I've been around it a lot, but I don't know. I've never subscribed to that theory of like, oh, I can't do this. Like, I don't know. I feel like you're kind of limiting yourself there, right? Like, don't eat chicken on race days. I fucking love chicken strips, like throwing them out on more for me. Right. Oh, anyways. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01We should host a pre-race meal and just find out all chicken, like find out what everybody doesn't like, all green Mountain Dew bottles. Like it's Andy Morse. The whole nine.
SPEAKER_05What's up, Andy? Andy, our boy. Yeah, that a boy. Sorry. Like his hat? Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01That's pretty good. Yeah, I love Andy. I haven't figured out the bibs, though. This is a look. Look at this. It's his fire suit, it's his fire suit.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's like a bib fire suit.
SPEAKER_01He has a bib fire suit.
SPEAKER_05If they're not just regular pants. Yeah. Andy's good shit.
SPEAKER_01Andy's good shit. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Anyway, so Andrew and Eight. Andrew and Eight. Yeah, sorry, I've I just happened to see Andy on the TV.
SPEAKER_04But uh, we can host we have like a bad luck party, or what do you think? Yeah, there's obviously we can do that.
SPEAKER_01Watermelons and woodships host the bad luck bash. The bad luck bash. Yeah, I think it'd be fun as hell. We find out what everybody hates, and then that's what we have.
SPEAKER_05Everybody has to swap out a hundred for two fifties.
SPEAKER_01Oh, we're no, there's the only fifty, the only pay is fifty dollar bills. Everybody gets a fifty. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Oh man.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05We'd have to all the wristbands are green, which that's one that over the years we hear about it. When I see Jimmy Gustin and the wristbands are green, I am trained now. I I know to flip them inside out. Because if you can't see it, it doesn't count for some reason.
SPEAKER_01That's right. Okay.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah. Jimmy's a hates green.
SPEAKER_01There's a there's a superstition, the green wristbands to still be wearing it, but it's oh, it's white on the inside. I can't see it. I can't see the green. Right?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I guess you gotta make peace with it somehow. Whatever you got to do. So you gotta get a wristband, right? Right. Yeah, that's right. You're not walking past Shannon without one. Right. Um, and then Shane Butler's comment, you make your own luck. Like Shane doesn't believe in luck or uh all of the cylinders in his engine. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Well, he believed in them, but they didn't believe in him. Neither did the drive shaft.
SPEAKER_01Right. Yeah. Um I should say too, if you had one song playing while you were rolling on the track, what would it be?
SPEAKER_04Oh, like uh like what would your go-to song?
SPEAKER_01Like your own, like if you were listening to earbuds, you had earbuds in on the racetrack, like what would be your my my go-to song for everything is Welcome Home by Kohe and Cambria.
SPEAKER_04Alright. Alright. That just gets me fired up. And now it's Kellen's too, so it's even cooler.
SPEAKER_01So I figured Jonathan's is like Dancing Queen. Hey, what's wrong with that? Nothing. I didn't say there was anything wrong with it. I just figured that's yours. Um I maybe that's Colton's, too. Uh maybe it's a red thing.
SPEAKER_04Could be. Garrett, what do you got?
SPEAKER_01If he says dancing queen, we're shutting her down right now.
SPEAKER_05It's a good song, isn't it? Thank you. Yeah. That's all I needed to hear. Yeah, there we go.
SPEAKER_01Oh no, Garrett's serenading. I like this. I like this. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So, alright, so you got my moat tears.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, I more human than human. That was oh, that's dates me some. Yeah, when that one came out, like, I don't know, I kind of closed my eyes and let it hype me up.
SPEAKER_04How about you, Colton?
SPEAKER_01Not as good as Dancing Queen, but Well, it is anything. I think if we've learned anything.
SPEAKER_05No. I don't know that Dancing Queen would be a hype song for me. Probably like Wild Side by Motley Crue. Oh, yeah. That's always a hype song.
SPEAKER_01Back in Black's always good too. I almost forgot about it.
SPEAKER_05Who sings that?
SPEAKER_01I've never heard of him. We'd have to ask Dakota.
SPEAKER_05My wife would know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she would. We did see ACDC live, though. She hates it. She'll say something about ACDC and I'm like, who?
SPEAKER_05She gets pissed. I fired up about that. Yep. Yeah.
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_05I don't know. Probably probably Motley Crew. Honestly, anything my Motley crew, I think. They got a lot of good music.
SPEAKER_04Are we going to go into send us the power ranking sending it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. We had a full, well, not a full, we had a short review by a local accountant. Local numbers guy. Making sure that the spreadsheet's legit. It works. And it does work. And it's legit. And I because you had said, well, Devin Smith's got to be at the top.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_01Well, we we got to looking through, and those DNFs, the DNFs that he has had heard him for. Those hurt, right? He's in the top ten overall.
SPEAKER_05He is in the top five.
SPEAKER_01I mean, well, he's tenth. Oh, is he tenth? For overall.
SPEAKER_05Oh, okay. I was thinking class.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Yes. But uh Jeremy, Jeremy Mills, delaminated tire and all, still carrying the torch.
SPEAKER_04He still finished. He did. So that's that was what we were talking about. The the finish on the spreadsheet helps you because you actually lose points when you DNF. DNF or DQ.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it it hurts you bad. So um yeah, the consistent finishes and then the recency deal and all that combined, like it's yeah, it's pretty legit.
SPEAKER_05So if I will say if Devin keeps this up, give it a couple weeks. Yeah. He'll be well in the top spot.
SPEAKER_04And I'm looking at the stock cars. Um right now, it's got him third. Um and yeah, like I said, a couple weeks, and if he gets another one, he's he's gonna jump both those guys probably. Right. Well no, and had he had David not gotten back to fourth, he probably would have jumped in.
SPEAKER_01Could have. I mean he him and Jimmy are right there together.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So top ten overall for the Adobe Lounge Top Shelf Power Rankings, Cowboy race still at the top. But I think a lot of that has to do with consistency, like you said, in the finishes.
SPEAKER_05He had a he had a bad place finish last night. I think he ended up 14th still. Right. You know, which doesn't look great. Right, but he fitted. For this, he finished the race. Right. Like it's better than the point deduction.
SPEAKER_01This is where DNF next to your name and MRP is gonna be. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So uh Mikey Smith jumped up five spots in the overall to second. Yep. Um Corey Vanderwilt is third in the hobby stock, David Smith fourth, Jimmy Gustin, fifth, Austin Gray to sixth, Jake McBurney to seventh, Brian Zeeem to eighth, Josh May ninth, and Devin Smith is the top ten for the power rankings. So um and like I said, the way this I mean these points are pretty tight. They are. Oh yeah. Because if you think about it, when we when we had it when Cowboy Ray was having like a good first half of the season, he was like and and Jimmy too. Jimmy had a really good first half of the season. Those guys were like way, way. Leaps and bounds, yeah. Like not even close. Right.
SPEAKER_06Yep.
SPEAKER_04So this is actually way, way tighter on the on the point side.
SPEAKER_01So we look through too, and you've got three mod lights, three stock cars, two mods, and a hobby. Right. And I mean, and the hobbies, Corey Vanderwell, he's third. I mean, so it's it's pretty well balanced. You the guys that are are kicking ass are are right up there, but this is really cool to see it work week to week. And now that I'm intimately involved with with the spreadsheet and like seeing the it's it's got the engineer side on me. Like, this is it's really cool. I'm I'm anxious to see how the rest of the year goes. So yeah, it is.
SPEAKER_04And like I said, it's we we did uh I'll be damned.
SPEAKER_01We were just talking about him. Yeah, Ethan Brock. Yeah, damn Ethan.
SPEAKER_04Go get him, bud. Uh but then it has driver of the week, Austin Gray. Yep. Um picking up yeah, 11, 10 spots. Yeah, so it went forward. Yeah, so tough break, Brian Snow.
SPEAKER_01Yep. That didn't kick some stuff out. He started on the pin and ended up with a DNF. Nearly last. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So I mean, like I said, it is cool to see that because like now because I was asked and I'm like, man, this is like it seems sus.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Right, right. Because like all of your guys at the top, or not all of them, but several of them, you're like, oh, they had a bad night, you know. Right.
SPEAKER_04But then like you think about it too, like it was when we were looking at it at the beginning, people were moving a lot more because we had less nights. Right. So it does a lot of things.
SPEAKER_05I know the like the recency bias does its job, obviously, but yeah, like when you get, you know, just like any stat problem, like as soon as you get more nights, you've got a bigger sample pool and it starts to really flesh itself out. Like so I mean, unless somebody just stops showing up, you know, right so right.
SPEAKER_01Well, you're a numbers guy, like do you you look at this and you're you're already starting to kind of evaluate like how a guy's season's going right now, and not really.
SPEAKER_05I feel like I'm at the racetrack enough. Uh we all are. I feel like we see it and you can kind of gauge. I mean, yeah, as a like kind of an unassuming or like a blind third eye, yeah. A little bit, but like, you know, this doesn't tell me that Jeremy Mills finished just outside the top ten last night. Right. You know, like so I would say that it's a good indication of overall how the season is going on.
SPEAKER_04I I would say, in my in my opinion, subjectively, like Devin Smith's probably the the the hottest driver as far as like right now, yeah. Right, right, as far as like how good he is right now.
SPEAKER_05Um had Dave not started so far back, it might have been a different story last night.
SPEAKER_04Right, but and Jimmy too, but right so yeah, that's uh so that was the Adobe um power rankings. Now I'm gonna go to Moffin Mayhem. My my vote was um I know like I say gr Grant Grant and was it Bailey got together and Grant ended up getting upside down over there in turn two um in the mod lights, but I I still think that the 62 and 26 fiasco was yeah, that was a whole lap of entertainment, mayhem, whatever you want to call it, in the sport mod feature.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I would I would agree with that. Um I definitely I mean, Grant he should have visited the bathroom, I guess. And maybe he wouldn't have had so much mayhem, but I kinda I think I gotta go with Colton's vote on this. We talked about this on the way up. We had mayhem in the tower.
SPEAKER_05We did. We had we we uh found the staff at Boon Speedway found a child who could not find their parents. So that was pretty chaotic for a moment.
SPEAKER_01Which and it had a happy ending. Yes. Yes, dad came to collect the child. Yes, like it worked out. It worked the way it should. And and honestly, you know, kids need to know too, and I don't know that it gets talked about enough that if they ever get separated from your parents, you know, you try to go wherever you're at, go try to find somebody that works there.
SPEAKER_05Go try to find an adult.
SPEAKER_01You know, it worked, it did. It worked the way it should, but it was a little spooky when it was like, oh man, this poor kid. She was fine. She stayed pretty calm. She had a sucker. He gave her a Tootsie roll. Yeah, she got Tootsie Pop. Tootsie Pop. Yeah, she got Tootsie Pop. You knew what he was doing. How do you keep a kid calm? Give him a sucker.
SPEAKER_05That's right. Yeah. Nope. She was okay.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_04You guys had a little different mayhem than I did down there.
SPEAKER_01I don't know that that's a good thing.
SPEAKER_05We were all very nervous for a moment. Because your mind goes like, Well, did mom and dad leave? You know? You know, and thankfully they were still there. But yes, it was nerve-wracking for a moment because we're like, well, we have a child. We're not sure who's it. So I mean, she was safe with us, obviously, you know. But we did she went and hung out with Jerry. Yeah. Yeah. Kristen Kristen went over there.
SPEAKER_01Kristen went over there. Kristen was Kristen was concerned because that's what she does for a living.
SPEAKER_05Right. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Not find lost kids. Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_04She helps them. She deals with them. But uh, yeah, like I but I can understand how quickly that can happen.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_04I'm sure, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_04You know, even today, I'm like, where did Carter go? And he's just running clean down the to the next ball field.
SPEAKER_05I think part of it is is like, you know, it's not bad parenting or anything. It's like it depends where you're at, too. Like you trust other parents, like like you at the boys at baseball tournaments and stuff, like you know a lot of people there. Like, you know, I mean, obviously, if you know Uncle Rico comes along and snatches every kid, that's different. But you know, you'd hope somebody'd call him out before he got there.
SPEAKER_01Whoa. Don't they call you Uncle Rico?
SPEAKER_05It's sometimes it's Rico and other times it's Mo. Mo Lester. Please cut that up. I should have said I've had that backwards. I'm okay with me an Uncle Rico. Not really. It is funny though.
SPEAKER_01Next, yeah. Well, we've done the nickname past, maybe we'll have to revisit that.
SPEAKER_04I didn't have a mustache for that deal. That's one you don't that's one you don't want.
SPEAKER_01No, you do not. No. I've had a lot of dumbass nicknames, but not that one.
SPEAKER_05That one will get you on a radar that you don't want to be on, I think.
SPEAKER_04Um here's a cool question that you you put in here. If super's nat if Supernational started today, who has the momentum?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Honestly, I don't know. Mike Smith. I was just gonna take that one before anybody else did. Like he's when he gets him working, he's gonna beat the brakes off of him. I honestly. And and Jake will be right there with him. I I know that. We all kind of know that.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01But we also know, man, the brakes, the way the draw works, if a guy qualifies toward the back, like it's a lot. So I Mike would be my pick right now if I had to pick anybody at the racetrack.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean, I like I said, I was kind of on the Devin Smith train there with the stock car deal. He's just been really good here lately. And um I don't remember it if if it has been this, if he has been like dominant like that, it's been a while, I guess. Because I'm sure there's times that he has been in the stock card class, but like right now he's really, really good.
SPEAKER_05I don't know, I think it's too early to tell in my opinion. Yeah, and like we're not we also haven't seen some of the out of staters that are here like for the last month before Supernationals yet. Granted, more often than not, it's the guys that have the best shot, in my opinion, are the guys that race here weekly. Right. They know this place better than anyone.
SPEAKER_01Jonathan talks about how much different you know, the racetrack and day racing and all that can play into it. Yeah. Where, you know, if a guy's not prepared for that, it's it can be trouble.
SPEAKER_05So that's that's part of what And it depends on if you're even if it's day racing, I mean there's factors other than that too. Is it cloudy, is it sunny, did they just farm? Did they farm five races ago? Like it there's a lot that goes into it. So which all I mean it all trickles down because you know, think about like well, you can win your heat race, but you might go get your ass waxed in the in the qualifier, you know, like it's several times, almost every year. There's somebody that wins a heat race, and not that not that anyone, you know, won a heat race that didn't deserve to win, they won it outright, but then yeah, it's like as the day changes and as you know the night goes on and the track changes and stuff, and then like they get out there and it's like, well, they may have had a cupcake heat race, you know, it's just kind of part of it.
SPEAKER_01Well, and it to me it kind of adds to the lore of supernationals. The whole you know, it's just like one big superstition wrapped into one because it it's it it's so every year is so unique. Yeah, and you can see a guy we we do see guys come right back the next year and dominate again. We've seen it. But we've also seen guys come back after winning and can't make a qualifier. I mean it's it's tough.
SPEAKER_05That's all about luck, tough sledge.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, like just all about like well and the the part of that too is like things change so much, like as much as they stay the same, a lot of that stuff changes too. Yeah, you know? Um and I've seen a lot of guys that uh are struggling more on the modified side. Um I don't know, and I could be totally wrong. I've been trying to pay attention, but I don't really see anybody that's been really dominant since the brake floater change.
SPEAKER_05It's been tough for a lot of guys, I think.
SPEAKER_01Yep. I I I feel like it's even them out a little bit. Yeah, it's different. It's different. Yeah, it's not man, I don't I don't I say this, I haven't driven a mod, but it's almost like the crutch is gone. You know, if that if that's a thing. Um I think there was a lot of guys that relied on that.
SPEAKER_05But then you've got guys that you get mixed reviews when you ask guys about it, though, too. Like it depends on I don't know. It's a case-by-case basis. No, you won't get the same answer.
SPEAKER_04Some of the guys well and the biggest like answer I get is like just the the feel of the car is completely different now. Right.
SPEAKER_01So like they get they don't feel comfortable and if you think if it is truly a crutch, think about a guy like Drew Jansen. He's come up through when he came into moderation that the the brake floater is what it was. Right. Now it's gone. He goes and wins their own little memorial. Like so it's it's not like they can't figure it out. Right. Well no one ever said Drew couldn't wheel.
SPEAKER_04I mean, you know. Right, right. But it's just that um the guy that sticks out to me that that's been like super consistently and super fat like super consistent and fast, or two of them really, um, here lately has been Todd Shoot's been fast all year. Um and and Fitz has been good here lately. Um so like I said, it's it hasn't been like there's nobody that's going out and doing what Tom Barry did a few years ago and winning 25-30 features. You know, I haven't seen that yet. To where I mean I like I said I could be completely wrong and I'm missing somebody, but like whenever the five car shows up, he's been really fast and he's like he's a guy that's gonna have a shot at winning the race.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, if you're making your uh bleacher bets with uh like a young Jonathan up there, that'd be a good one to jump on right now because he's been on fire. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um yeah, what'd my cousin Justin call it? Backstretch betters. Backstretch betters is right. Backstretch betters. That's right. Um but yeah, so I don't know. Like I said, it's just the other classes you have guys that are just super fast all the time and they're gonna but like I said, it it the mod deal has been interesting. In in my opinion.
SPEAKER_01Yep, it definitely has.
SPEAKER_04Um but uh well should we take another break real quick and then when we come back, we can um we wanted to recap the Ron Little Memorial Um and then uh we can talk about lay models.
SPEAKER_01Yes, Colton wants to talk about Bobby.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we know. We know, we know.
SPEAKER_05All right, so the floor will be mine, is what you're saying.
SPEAKER_01I think Bobby knows.
SPEAKER_05You guys are just gonna leave and just be me. Right. News anchor, center seat. Right, yeah, let's talk about Bobby Peter. That's all I was gonna do again.
SPEAKER_04But let's go to another quick break. Um, we'll send it off to friends at Vision Bank and some of the others, and then uh when we come back, we'll recap um SIS and anything that else that's upcoming. Um, you've been watching Watermelon Clickers, we'll be right back.
SPEAKER_03Welcome to the Adobe Lounge located in Boone, Iowa, at 915 West Maine Isaac Tower. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 1 p.m. to close, Saturday and Sunday, noon to close. Come enjoy some of the strongest drinks in town and the best homemade pizzas around. Whether you're stopping in to relax, meet friends, or grab a bite, the Adobe Lounge is the place to be.
SPEAKER_04I've been doing good. This is the first time you guys got me going in the breaks this time.
SPEAKER_01Did we come back laughing? That's a good thing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. No one'll know. Nope. Right. What it was about at all.
SPEAKER_01Well, we hope not. We were talking earlier. Garrett's got a lot of footage. He definitely could cook us over.
SPEAKER_05He actually clips out the podcast and puts that together.
SPEAKER_01The other footage he keeps at a three-hour reel at home. He's like blooper, blackmail, uh whatever.
SPEAKER_05All things. There's a best of coming out, but it's the best of some different things.
SPEAKER_04Um one of the things I wanted to talk about that uh couldn't really unbox them because they were in like a tote in the back of my rig, but uh the Bailey family stopped me while I was driving through the pits on Saturday, and he's like, I got something for you. I'm like, okay, and I see him carrying this big tub, and it's like got this plastic stuff, and then he throws in the back. I'm like, what in the world? What do you have? And he's like, You guys were talking about on the podcast how you wanted to have that big inflatable balls that the guys could run into each other with. He's like, There's six of them in there. Hell yeah. So he had a Garrett's face. Yes.
SPEAKER_05I think the hallway is long back in there. It is pretty long.
SPEAKER_04There's a lot of windows over there. True. That'll be okay. But uh, man, yes. I can't wait to think there's some things we can do with that.
SPEAKER_01I can't wait to put Jerry and Colton in one and have them run down the front stretching to each other right in front of the crowd.
SPEAKER_04He's like, yeah, like be careful though, because like we've seen some guys like gounced ass overhead, man, like just your shoes go flying off and everything else.
SPEAKER_01Find out who's got the momentum. Right inertia.
SPEAKER_04So I'm gonna put you against Kevin Grisham.
SPEAKER_01Big Kevin.
SPEAKER_05Kevin doesn't even have to, he just has to stand there.
SPEAKER_01I'm in trouble.
SPEAKER_05Right. I love Kevin.
SPEAKER_04Right. Can we do it King of the Hill style? All right, hell yeah. Yeah, Josh. Josh versus Kevin first round. Oh, Josh is getting.
SPEAKER_01How does it work? If you go down, you're out, right? Yeah. If you hit the stay upright on your feet.
SPEAKER_04Or we could just make a circle. You know, that's what they did at the Iowa State Wrestling. Are they sumo suits? No, they're like the balls that you stand in and they got handles on the inside, and you and you look real funny when you're running.
SPEAKER_01I feel a concussion coming all the way. No, that's what the that's what the ball said.
SPEAKER_04That's what they all said. That's why your head sticks this far out of the top.
SPEAKER_01Oh man.
SPEAKER_04But so yeah, thank you to the Bailey family. And they sent some other stuff too, but we're gonna not talk about that yet. We'll we'll chamber that one for later.
SPEAKER_01We'll have that for next time. Yes. Yep, that's a good one. Uh, because I'm gonna try and do a little work with that.
SPEAKER_04Right. No, I was super excited about that because yeah, like I said, you might see the orange 93 car on on that one.
SPEAKER_01So if we can get her worked out, we might have a little retro TV next week. Right, that'd be pretty cool. Yeah. Uh shot.
SPEAKER_04But we wanted to talk about a couple of other events that happened over the week before we get out of here. Um we had uh Ron Little Memorial was the end of the Midwest Madness Tour.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Yep, it was last Thursday. Um that's one that's always been special to me. Uh as pitted next to Ron the night he passed away. Uh and it's just a big, it's the longest running memorial in Iowa, I believe, right now. Um and you know, saw Mary before the races, had to go out and get my hug. Uh so yeah, it was but it was good racing. Um Mike even told me the ponds get a little low over there, so when it gets a little low, I don't know if the nitrates kick up or but it definitely has a little uh I don't like to say something has a smell to it, because it's like it doesn't drive you away, but it is definitely noticeable. Yeah. But that's how they water the track. I mean and it works well for them. So um, but yeah, it was good racing. Uh Drew Janssen just kind of laid one on him and um like him and Isaac won their heats, and I don't know, you know that redraw they do there on the front stretch has a little bit to do with it, but Drew was pretty strong, so um got out, got away from Todd, and kind of ran away with it. Uh Buck, Buck Shafroth took the stock cars, um, and that was a pretty good race too. Um my buddy Chris started on the pole. Something interesting that I don't know how many people would have known what they were looking at. But um Chris starts on the pole, and they had Ron's car that he ha drove the night that he passed away, was pacing the field, and Chris went up and tapped it, and then he pulled up beside it. Well, Chris, so Don Portwine bought that car after Ron passed.
SPEAKER_04Yep.
SPEAKER_01Chris bought that car from Don and then won the Ron Little Memorial in that car.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So when he pulled up beside it, I was like, man, he's up beside a car that he won this race in. It's just it was a really cool thing. Yeah, that is for me. That is awesome. So um and then old Airflow, Matt, Matt Avila, I might just start calling him Airflow though. Um he got her done and he that ended up being a lot closer race at the end. Uh I think he might have even had a little contact there at the end too, because they got in some lap traffic and it was got kind of wild. Um Tommy Killen Jr. That that was a cool win for him. Uh because he he remembered Ron too. So um it's just neat when some of those guys still kind of remember that when you're talking about somebody that's been gone over 30 years. So um and then Johnny Thomas rolls in from Beatrice, wins a sport compact race. So uh all in all, pretty good. I got I just went over to hang out with Kristen, make sure she was comfortable for a big show like that, and she didn't need me there. She says she did, but she didn't.
SPEAKER_05You went to see Tommy Killing's sweet mustache. You damn right I did.
SPEAKER_01That baby. There's about 16 hairs, but they they hang off just perfect. Um, I like Tommy. Tommy's a good dude. Yeah. Um Yeah. I don't know. I've not working there all the time this year has been kind of different for me, so it was nice to go back and see some racing around the bowl ring.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Well, we had that, and then they had the uh mods for Mindy, is that what Dennison was? Yeah. Um Highway 39. Yep. Um just quick rundown on those. Adam Hensel won the hobby stock feature. Um, Braden Gifford was second there. So um, like I said, he's been he's been fast this year. Real fast. Um so hobby stocks go to sport mods. Um Jake is back from vacation.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and picked right up where he left off. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So Jake Sacco wins the vacation or detention? Northern Sport Mods. He said it was vacation. He did say vacation. Yeah, he did say that. All right. Yep. Um Wahoo picks up the stock car win. Um Brian Blessington was second there.
SPEAKER_01So blind uh squirrel finds a nut once in a while. Yeah, wow.
SPEAKER_05Oh boy, Crystal let him know on Facebook too. She posted about she said, Oh, Mike won tonight. Almost didn't know if he forgot how to do this or not. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_01Did it say his number on that by the chance by chance? Uh what his number was at the Harris class. Right, no, yes.
SPEAKER_04Poor guy. Uh-huh. Um, Isaac Malico picks up the win and the modified. Nick Meyer goes second. Um, and then we had Zack Zeitner won the late models, and then Michael Gardner won the Sport Compax. So um good night racing for those guys and Dennison as well. So, you know, things coming up. You talked about the big one coming up at Beatrice. Uh Joey Hergett Memorial. Yep, that's the 13th. I believe so. That's right. Uh yeah. So third, third.
SPEAKER_05Or yeah, it's on the 13th. Yes. Third, third annual. Yes. Joey Hergett. Um mods are $16,026 to win. Uh there's a $250 entry fee that comes with that, but it's quite a payday. Uh quite a payday, quite a quite a payday for that. Uh stock cars are $10,000 to win. Uh sport mods are three. Hobbies are three, and sport compacts are a thousand to win with a $40 entry fee. Really? And I believe it's $200 to start.
SPEAKER_01Or it's a hundred to start.
SPEAKER_05$100 to start in the Sport Compacts. So getting your money back on that.
SPEAKER_01Stock cars, that'll be an automatic.
SPEAKER_05Yep, that'll be qualifier.
SPEAKER_01That's an because $5,000 plus is automatically. Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yep, yeah. For the fashion or for the All-Star.
SPEAKER_04Yep, yeah, for B and B and the stars. And then yeah, what's the is there an auto qualifier for the mods?
SPEAKER_01I don't believe so. I think just stock cars. Just stock cars. Okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yep. That's what I have here. You're the admin guy, you'd know. I don't know. Yep.
SPEAKER_01But uh that's always a fun one to put together because you get a list of and you got all these guys from all these different regions.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. But we got a couple good ones coming up at Boone. Um you know, this weekend is just a regular show. And then the week after that's the King of the Catwalks. Yep. And then the week after that is the salute to veterans. So we got a couple good ones coming up. Yeah, coming up there.
SPEAKER_01And then um Salute to Vets, I believe, for us, is has the most uh pomp and circumstance of any event we run. Right. And it's I don't mind it at all. Like it is so good. They do a lot of work. Jason and them put a ton of work into that. The trophies, the just everything. I mean, and those guys do obviously, I mean, see up there on the wall, and they're very appreciative of the racetracks that they that host the events and and and the staff that do the work. I mean, he they're really good. So um it's neat to see the veterans come out for that. It's neat to see, you know, how everybody kind of comes together for it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, one of the coolest things about that whole deal is like and I believe it's each night uh at each different track, but you know, like a veteran gets paired with a driver or whatever, and like I you know, I think Matt's talked about it on the podcast before. Yeah, Noah, he's told me about it, is that like that and Jonathan too is like that's one of the coolest things is to meet those folks at that deal. Like, cause you know, they're just having a good time, you know, and like and I think Jonathan and Matt have both said it's like you know, you meet 'em and you know, realize like they're great people, and you're like there's a little extra pressure of like I want to win for them, right? You know, like type thing.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, no, that that one's always a good one. I will be in town for that. So that'll that'll be good.
SPEAKER_01It's the first one on the I will be happier in town. Yeah, right. I know.
SPEAKER_04I don't know how many times grab my phone, Cody.
SPEAKER_01Oh damn, you're not here. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04No, that'll be good. Um yeah, looking forward to that. And uh yeah, that one's always nerve wracking just trying to get stuff set up and get the you know, the the tables and yeah, like I said, it's all kind of status quo, but just making sure all that stuff in the past.
SPEAKER_01Right, could you know it's one thing to have an event. I mean, we we try to do our best for everything, right? But that one it's like it's the next notch up like Yeah. You gotta nail it.
SPEAKER_05They're trying so hard to take care of those folks. And not that we don't take care of everyone there on a weekly show, but like those are some special folks and families that get to be a part of it.
SPEAKER_01They're the responsible for our freedom that we have right now to do what we're doing. So it's we it's it's a privilege and it's an honor to be part of any part of it. So um we just try to do our best and have a great night. I mean because it is, it always is, always is.
SPEAKER_04Speaking of that, I saw did you see any good Fourth of July shirts? Because I saw one yesterday that had a picture of George Washington on it, and it said suck at England.
SPEAKER_05I saw I saw a couple good ones. One was not Fourth of July related, but it was a t-shirt that had a Cybertruck on it, and it said, This isn't cool, this is a cry for help. Yes, and then I saw another one, it wasn't a shirt, but it was a meme, and it was uh said something about uh you know the colonies or whatever and treason, and then it was a picture of George Washington that said it's only treason if you lose. So that was pretty good, but yeah. A lot of a lot more people than I thought I would see with the uh American flag uh like cut off overalls, yes, which I'm very upset I did not get a pair of.
SPEAKER_04There was a guy that was uh I don't remember who he was with, um, but he was riding by on his pit bike and had the had the overalls on after the races. Well, he had one strap that he was just had the he went like the big show and just one strap. Single legging. Right. All right. So the other one was hanging off the back, and I'm telling you, that thing was like two inches from the back tire there. I'm like, somebody should go tell that guy he needs to put another strap. You'll only have that once. Yeah, you'll only do it once because you'll only be allowed. American flag was about to be lying on the You will remember that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I saw the bibs, a couple guys have bibs, Colin Anderson, old 9XL mod light driver. He was sporting the bibs, and uh no shirt underneath.
SPEAKER_05As one does.
SPEAKER_01As one does, and his number is 9XL, and it is not that is not XL is for a reason.
SPEAKER_05It's on purpose. He's a big boy.
SPEAKER_04They all are. It might have been Colin that was riding the pit bike. It could have been. Yeah. That would track.
SPEAKER_01Those boys, great humored.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, they're good. They're such good dudes. Yeah, right. No, they're awesome.
SPEAKER_01That was I saw that, and then I also saw somebody in the grandstands wearing a shirt, and it said happy 4th of July, and a guy was holding his hand like this, and there was blood coming from his hand, blew his finger off. So I thought that was pretty cool. Um it was turned this way. Sorry, you couldn't see the finger there. Right.
SPEAKER_05Uh yeah. I figure back it up, Terry. Back up, Terry. Oh boy, put it in reverse. Uh I wish I would have paid more attention at on a on a non-racing related note. I went to good guys, the Midwest Heartland Nationals.
SPEAKER_01Car-related?
SPEAKER_05Well, right, but not race cars. Well, they do the rally course and stuff.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you saw some cars that could be race cars.
SPEAKER_05Anyways, my god, I wish I had disposable income like those folks do. Or, okay, not only that, I wish I had the time and the patience to do what those people do. And I don't know, it's so it's so crazy. I've been one time. I went last year on Sunday, and it was kind of like, you know, like people have already cleared out, you know, like by Sunday morning or whatever. But this year went Saturday morning, like everyone's there, made it like 16 feet inside the gate before I ran into someone I know, Eric Knudsen of all people. Perfect. Um said he got the hobby stock back from Jet. Okay. All restubbed, everything's good. Um anyways, but yeah, just a lot of cool like cars, people. I mean, like I saw a bunch of people on Facebook, you know, that I know or we know, like Rob Jennings and Maggie Jennings, like they're from Boone. I believe like they were there, and I'd like I didn't run into them, you know, like would have been cool, but it just like I said, a lot of neat stuff that goes on at that. I got to see a burnout competition for the first time. That was kind of cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they still do the autocross, like where they go and race like through cones and yeah, they're like horse steel. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yep, yep, yep. That's pretty cool too. Yeah, I saw that a couple years ago. Yes, we actually got to see the uh the cars uh from the Speedway Motors uh toter get pulled out on the course and they put it down on them. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Twin turbo one job to do, and it's that yeah, twin turbo, thousand horsepower, and like it was I mean, I'm talking like first gear, couldn't have even been 1800 RPMs, and those turbos are singing, you know. I'm like, that's a car that needs a bigger course, you know.
SPEAKER_01Like, yeah, but kind of throttled button, yeah.
SPEAKER_05But you know, like I mean, they were putting it on most of the people out there, you know, like 50 to 55, maybe 58 seconds, and they run out there and put down like a 43, you know. Right. So not that anyone's racing, like there's not I don't think there's really anything for it. And but I know they do if you're a multi-year entrant, they will or even just throughout however many times you run it over the weekend, they'll keep track of your best times and like if you've vested them and stuff like that or whatever. But yeah, I don't know, it's just cool to walk around and look at old cars, new cars. I mean right.
SPEAKER_04There's a lot of them out there, and yeah, I like I said, I went to a couple years ago, and it's like you said, just the time and patience, and like some of those people are super meticulous, and and it's it's cool to see. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01There's nothing there's a lot of passion that goes into that. Right, yeah.
SPEAKER_05A lot of money that goes into it too. Because man, these cars are and trucks are impeccably done. Right.
SPEAKER_01You know, well, anybody that cares about anything, I mean, you want to do it. You want to do it right.
SPEAKER_05I mean, we uh I will say one thing that gets me, and I saw it several times yesterday. I saw it on like an old Ford Scout, which was done up really well. Um and then a couple K5 blazers, and then uh some of the old Sierras. People have got to stop taking the original gauge clusters out of the dash. Nothing bothers me more than when you look in because I used to have an 86 Chevy pickup.
SPEAKER_04So I know what the I had a I had a 77.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, like you know what those gauge clusters look like and the the rolling odometer and everything, and you look in there and you don't see it, and it's always a letdown. Like, oh, it just bothers me. It's like I don't care what the rest of it looks like good, bad, ugly, if it runs, if it doesn't run, but like I don't know, there's something about that original panel, like the rolling odometer and everything that just looks I don't know, it's just right.
SPEAKER_01Could be that it don't work.
SPEAKER_05There's that too.
SPEAKER_01And but they still there's OEM replacements.
SPEAKER_05I mean, they're yeah, I just like I saw a couple that had digitals, and I'm like, oh, what a waste. Like it's really not, but it just like it takes away from for me, like the nostalgia of an old Chevy, especially yeah, the needles, like those orange needles. I don't know, it just takes it away from it. But it was really fun. Um, didn't get a root beer float, but it was it's like a mini fair, which is kind of nice. Like you can get all sorts of goodies at the stands. I got some steak tips, which have every year have gotten more underwhelming. I don't know. Just not like they used to be. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01And these hurt my teeth. No, it just it's the Zens that messing with you.
SPEAKER_05The peppers weren't done well.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So well, and he got to go with his mom because it's her birthday. She's a firepacker. Yes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Mom loves going to that. I think she just likes to walk around and look at stuff and not talk to anyone. I think that's what's looking for. And I don't blame her.
SPEAKER_01I can't wait. She's on like episode 14 right now. I can't wait a year from now for her to hear that. Yeah. Yeah, that'll be good. Yeah, that's good.
SPEAKER_05But no, it was a fun day, other than it was a little warm out. But yeah. So it could have been worse. Yeah. Yeah, it could have been raining. So yeah. Well, it did rain there Friday. Yeah, that's true.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you just picked the right day to go. Right. That's right. But uh, well, I don't really have anything else unless you guys do. Um, but uh we'll be ready to rock and roll again this weekend. And um yeah.
SPEAKER_01Got a few guests coming up. Um, I know Jonathan mentioned last time we're gonna be doing a ticket giveaway for the Harlan deal. Yeah. We'll get that all squared away this week and we'll wait for get it out.
SPEAKER_05Light models. Light models. I would like to enter.
SPEAKER_01I believe you're eligible. Hell yeah. How do I win? Well, we'll find out. That's we gotta figure that out.
SPEAKER_05Even if I don't win, I'm probably still going.
SPEAKER_01That is next week? Is that right?
SPEAKER_05I don't know. This weather, I just know when it's this no, it's the same week. I think it's the 12th, 13th, and 14th.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so it would be next week. Yeah, I believe. Yes.
SPEAKER_04Well, we'll we gotta get that figured out because I know that we race on Saturday nights, and I know when my baseball games are at this point in time in my life, and that's about it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, so Sarah asked me yesterday about she said, Oh, are you guys gonna go to Harlan? Or maybe it was Dave that asked me. Somebody asked me yesterday. And I said, Well, they race the same day as we do. And Sarah was like, Well, yeah, but there's it's Thursday, Friday, Saturday show. And I was like, Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_0115th, 16th, 17th. Oh, 15th, 16th, 17th. Yes, yes, yeah.
SPEAKER_05So yes, I would I will probably be attending.
SPEAKER_01So we'll get that we'll get that arranged this week. Hopefully we'll get the information out. Hopefully, Smooth Operator will be there. I imagine he probably will if he hears you're gonna be there.
SPEAKER_05If not, if not, I'll have to set her settle for Brandon Shepherd. He's your he's your uh fallback. He's I don't know, we have I don't this is gonna sound weird.
SPEAKER_01This is where we're supposed to get up and walk away.
SPEAKER_05No, no, no, no. I like I have world of outlaw guys, or like one Bobby, obviously. Which he shows up to Lucas races and just anyways, so um, but then yeah, like more of the Lucas schedule guys, too. So I like I probably have two. Like, but yeah. We they're your rules.
SPEAKER_01We're just can I tell you what this reminds me of? My best friend in the whole world, Todd Countryman, right runs right 3XW wrestling back in the day. WWE, WCW. Uh-huh. Yeah. Didn't make sense to me. They're all wrestling in a ring. I didn't understand all of it. I still I do now to an extent, but that's kind of what it reminds me of when I see Lucas.
SPEAKER_04That is, yeah, that is very world outlaw.
SPEAKER_01I'm like, well, which one is it?
SPEAKER_04And then you got DX or you got NWO? I mean, you gotta choose. Right. Right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05It's one of those things. I don't know. It's next thing you know, I'll be a sprint car fan or something silly. So sorry, Kevin. We're gonna have to talk.
SPEAKER_04I haven't you haven't been here every time I've made that joke. You can't be my resident. I'm the resident sprint car.
SPEAKER_01Up until now, I've raised you right.
SPEAKER_05I don't want to be the resident sprint car guy. I will say we did watch the high bank thing at Houstet's, the high bank or high limit? No, it was high bank nationals. High bank nationals at Houston's. I did watch pretty good night of that.
SPEAKER_04That was a pretty good race.
SPEAKER_05It was, yeah, and like uh we were at Boone working, and I had it up on the other monitor. No, I was watching it too.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_05Well, Houstet's house car one.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And Sheldon was good all week there, too. Oh, he was, yeah. Yep. Yep. Just not great on the last day, but uh suppose that saved Houstet's any money. Yeah, about 300,000. Yeah. That's it.
SPEAKER_01They have an insurance policy if the house car was they don't have to pay it out. Right. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04But anyway, all right. I think we're good on on episode 42. Um, do you want to thank everybody, Central Iowa Diesel Performance, Elmquist Towing, Adobe Lounge, Moffat's Ford, Farley's Wholesale, Tiring Quick Lube, uh Vision Bank now has come on with us, uh, Log Fab and P1 Promotions. Um, but yeah, like I said, just um I think that's all I got. 42 in the book. Yep.
SPEAKER_05This will be your lowest viewed episode because Jonathan wasn't here and I was.
SPEAKER_01Or it won't. Then we get to give him a little bit of grief about it.
SPEAKER_04Hey, let's juice these numbers, please.
SPEAKER_01Garrett, do your thing. Uh 43 next week. I think I can think of a race car driver with that number.
SPEAKER_04Yep. We'll give you all a week to think about it.
SPEAKER_01I believe Braden Shepherd.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. There you go. Well, anyway, that's all we got. Um we appreciate you guys for tuning in as always, listening um on the audio, watching on YouTube, um, sharing the reels, all the things. So um, so please continue to subscribe, share, all the give us all the love that you can. Um, but that's all I got. Until next week. Um, you've been watching Watermelons and Woodchips.
