As he mentioned, Sean Harper uh played uh professional sports, and you know, I just love love to invest in the world's greatest resource, which is people. Yes. Because it has the potential of reaping generations of dividends.

The moment I said I can win, it changed everything. It changed the way I saw things. I began to see obstacles as opportunities, right? And and and I begin to see conflict as comfort. My my whole outlook, everything changed. And I looked at life as something to obtain, something to win, something to dominate. And I went from New England Bench in junior college to the next year at first team all winter, full scholarship end of that year to Indiana University, blocking for high league ending, drafting the NFL on third pick in the fourth round, played about six to seven years professional football, took the same winning mindset, the same winning concept and the methodology, and applied it to life in business. I've been in business for 20 years, married for 24 years. I have a list of successes, a list of wins. In fact, I stuttered my entire life. I could not complete a sentence till college. And now I traveled the world as an inspirational, evangelical, and motivational speaker. If life is a game, you play the game to win.

Sean, uh, what were some of those adversities that you uh was challenged with over the years, you know, that caused you to change your identity?

SPEAKER_00 3:24

Yeah, it it's it's the actual amazing thing about adversity is that adversity can break you, but God has called adversity to make you a record breaker. Ah, gotcha. And the difference is in the perspective. And a lot of the challenges that I was faced with, um, you know, uh being held back in the first grade, uh documented with like four at least four learning disabilities. Okay. Stuttered my entire life. Mom raised all six of us. I was just thinking, you know, it was I was just thinking about that yesterday. It was mom's mom's birthday, it was yesterday. She's no no longer with us. Right. But uh, you know, she raised all six of us on the south side of Columbus by herself, Scrub, Flores and Bexley, uh, Jez and Juke, and we just come home and just instill those principles of just God, uh, faith. Yes. Um just absolutely, she did an absolutely wonderful job with that. I digress. Uh I was kicked out of a couple schools for disciplinary issues, left high school with a 1.62 accumulative EPA now ct, voted most likely to fail in high school. Yeah, you know, there was a lot there, but the the absolute amazing thing about God is that God rarely calls to qualify, he qualifies to call.

That's right. I I have that sign in my um on my wall in my room, you know. Uh oftentimes we think we have to be qualified, but and we're not, but he he qualifies us. Yeah, that is that is true. Um and from um building a winning identity. What what was that? Why did you feel like you had to build a winning identity?

Build and always build and consistently maintain that winning identity. Okay, you know, all actions stem from thoughts, all thoughts come from your belief system, but there's one step deeper, it's called your self-concept. That's why, if I could speak Christianese, right? Absolutely. 2 Corinthians 5 17 says, of any man being Christ, you are a new creator. You're not a brand new, you are not refurbished, or recycled, or rehashed, or reused, you're a reconditioned, but you're a brand new creation in Jesus. And so it's from the your actual identity, yes, that everything should flow, which is why in Matthew 4, that's the first thing the enemy went after is if thy be the son of God.

So you live by the principles, and now you teach the principles. So um what avenue has allowed you to um teach some of these principles? What avenue? Yeah. So in in the sense of uh um most people don't know or um your NFL background, uh, but then share what that locker room might have been like. Because you think about a locker room of alpha males, just put me in there for like Christian Broadcast Radio.

Let me let me rephrase the rephrase the question. Because uh in sports, there are egos. I I ran track. Okay, and I played basketball in high school. I went to the state and in track.

Um so in the locker room, and and when I play basketball, and it it's always egos. I was, you know, I felt I was the best that came out of my junior high school, and I went to East High School. And then, you know, you know, so then you go to East, and the guys from all the guys that was on the team, they came from champion. So, you know, they have one the state in their division. I came from Franklin. We have won the state seven years in a row, you know, Granville Waiters on on, you know. So it's like, okay, so I'm the best in my neighborhood. You know how you're so though Eagles are there, the alpha males are there. It's all right.

So what makes first of all, first of all, out of anything about professional sports I miss most is the locker room. Yeah. It is it is it is one of the most amazing experiences to have all the men sitting around, you know, trying to one up each other. We're doing this, you know, we're doing that. It's just a collab and competition and confrontation at the same time. Right. But what happens is that the one thing that we all have in common is that we want to win. Yeah. And we elevate the win, which is an absolute blessing. But the dichotomy of the locker room is interesting because you know, the first and second, maybe third year players, you know, they're all thinking one way. Yeah, they all walk you know different, their attitude, their perspective is different. But as you uh traverse and as you progress through your NFO experience, the fourth and fifth and sixth and seventh year players, they walk different. Okay. Because they realize is that it is but for the grace of God that I'm still here. Yeah, imagine that you're out there practicing, and all of a sudden, you know, this first round pick, this guy's doing great, and he screams. He screams why? Because in practice, he just broke his bones. Okay, and he'll never play football again. Yeah, and in the game, you're seeing people being carted off, and you realize, yeah, man, you know what? Although I am good, one play can change it all. Yeah, so you know that's so crazy. So it actually, you know, introduces an element of humility by experience. And so that that actual balance weighs itself out in the lap.

See that that's something that you know most people would never hear. You know, and this is what I like about our podcast. And I've learned, Sean, and you and I go back, we you know, we know one another for you know, through some mutual friends. And um, I've learned that to use this platform, God has given me this platform for a reason. And I'm making sure that I utilize it the way he has it intended to be used.

So that's huge. And you know what? If I could just segue with that, sure, absolutely. Because you had mentioned about you know the actual NFL and the platform, you know. Being able in making the decision to use whatever you do as a platform is a choice. And yes, it does take the humility. Yes, it does take an element of brokenness, which is different from humility. But everyone that's listening to us right now, you have a platform, bus driver, mailman, whatever. It's like, man, what could we do with the city if everyone surrendered their platform?

Performs, yeah. Amen. That's right, that's right. Um, with that said, what the finding moment that shaped who you are today?

Okay. There's a few, but uh one of the largest, I mean the biggest ones, because I just mentioned, you know, about a minute ago, okay, it's between being humble. Humble, yep. So I think it's July 21st, 1993. Okay. My second year playing for the Rams. Okay.

Now, now listen, growing up, you know, mama, okay, mama made sure that we went to church. Yeah. Yeah. And when, you know, and when mama wasn't at church, she made sure that we was on the church bus. That's right. We were on the church bus days, yeah, yeah.

I I actually had to drive one. So that's I told you I was a PK. I had to drive.

Church bus. So I always knew about God. I didn't really belong. There's a difference. Yeah, absolutely. And you know, I knew how to play the church game. I knew the scriptures, you know, and I knew the songs and the hymns and you know, what to do, what not to do, right? Head knowledge, not heart knowledge. Yeah. So uh 1993, I was in practice and I and I felt a pop in my right foot. And it turned out that that was the fifth metatarsal Jones bone fracture.

And it takes 17 weeks to heal without surgery. And one of the top surgeons in the country looked at me, said, Your season and maybe your career's over on this one. And I went back to the dorm room where we were in training camp with the Rams.

And every it and I felt like, um, who is it, Snow White or Cinderella? I felt like everything just changed. Okay. People's perspective, the way they related to me, you know, your has been, you know, you're gonna get cut, blah, blah, blah, this and this. Even back in Columbus, I would call home, yeah, we heard about you. I call you back. The level of rejection was at a whole that whole new level. And I was so angry. I was angry at God. Sure. Because I was a good guy. Like, you know, I would give money to church and this and good, you know, I would do good things. And I thought that that, you know, that merit and all those cra I got credits, God. I got rights. Right, right. But no answer. No answer. And then around the third or fourth day, I dropped to my knees and I said, Jesus. I said, I'm sorry. Yeah. I said, Don't, I said, don't leave me like this. See, I love Sean Harper, the NFL football player, but I hated Sean Harper. The person. Yeah. So one is image, one is identity. And I'm like, God, don't leave me. And he spoke to me. He spoke to me. Uh, and he said, I have a call and a purpose for your life that's greater than the NFL is greater than you.

There you go. And then he challenged me. You know, he said, Oh, you will play again. But and I didn't, I was like, okay, well, thank you, Lord. I don't think I want to play, but thank you, God. You know, but it's in that moment, uh to make a long, long, long, long story short, that journey, yes, that once you're broken, you don't you have a you have a healthy fear of not wanting to be whole again without Christ. Amen. That's true. So I was broken before the Lord in my perfect no, but he doesn't have to do be drastic to get my attention. He's like, oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm sorry, God. Yeah, okay, I that moment right there changed everything.

What's a challenge you overcome that taught you something lasting?

SPEAKER_00 14:21

Well, um God doesn't I uh as we mentioned, I think off air, on air, God doesn't call to qualify to call it to call right there. Yeah, and it's just the challenge is is that learning how to walk in humility, yeah, understanding that um some of the challenges that you go through in life, challenges that you are dealing with in life, find the praise number one, find his presence, yes, find the lesson around whenever you're going through something, whenever you're dealing with something, get out of yourself, get out of your pity party, yeah, and say, Okay, God, okay, what is it? What what do I need to understand? What do I need to learn in this moment? I mean, people hate the valley, but there's water in the valley.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, we all have to go through that valley. Yeah, uh, we are not exempt from it, you know. And uh show me somebody in the Bible that did not go through the vibe through the valley. Yeah. I mean, it it's definitely the valley, the challenges and the issues, they they're all there. So the great thing is the testimony is they will come out of it, you know.

And and and and that is that is one of the things I detest about social media is that they're always showing the finished product. Yeah, they're always showing the results. Yeah, they don't show the pain. Yeah, they don't show the pain, they don't show the process, they don't show the persecution, especially in leadership. They don't show the isolation, they don't show the rejection. All you see is the finished product, yeah. And it's not fair because now younger people are younger generations, they're like, This is what I want. They're like, You don't know. I mean, Jesus said, like, yeah, yeah, you would have sit next to me. Right, right.

Are you willing to go through what huggers? Yeah, okay, yeah, that's it. That's true. Um, and and people take it as a false identity because they don't they don't know what that experience is like, you know.

Oh, we do.

It's okay. It's all right. Nobody talks about that. Think about what what facet of life do people or can people be 100% vulnerable and say this is what I'm dealing with. Right. I mean, it's actually baked into our culture. Perfect example. How you doing? Fine. Right. I mean, it's knee jerk. Yeah, you know, it's another in church. Hey, how blessed and highly favored. So you knew it. We trained. Right, right. We trained. We are trained at the workplace. What's going on? Great, great, you know, David's doing wonderful in college. And blah, blah, blah. And and then, and then, you know, we find out that the number one, probably the number one or number two prescribed medicine in the United States is antidepressants.

What's the main thing you're working on or passionate about right now?

People.

People investing, pouring into people, speaking with people, ministering to people, helping little Sean Harper's people. Like, you know what? Had it not been for a few people in my life, I wouldn't be here right now. Right. Just a few, just a handful of people who just, you know, saw the king and the kid. Yeah. I wouldn't be here right now. Yeah, yeah. And so I love to invest in people. I love to pour in the people. That's my passion.

You had a mentor in NFL, I heard on one of your clips. Because I I know you um have motivational speaking engagements and things on social media that I was able to watch as well. I've been following you. One of your mentors um you call the judge.

So Jackie Slater. Jackie Slater. Jackie Slater was probably he's he's probably the greatest offensive lineman that ever played the game. He played like 19 to 20 years. And he was a monster. But he was also an amazing man. Yeah. Um, and to be able to watch him uh because my father wasn't around. Okay. Okay. And to able to to to be able to watch him and to understand what he would do and the way he would move, it was was totally different. A perfect example. Yes. Um, we would come to practice, you know, and you know, you're a former athlete. You know, we come to with old four-day old sweats on. Yeah, we don't care what's snotting our nose. It's just time nobody who cares, right? Right. He would come to practice every single day in a short and tie. Suited. Suited up. Yeah. And one day, you know, you know, like, why are you doing this? You have another job or you get you know your broadcasting booth. He said, no. He said, um you have to have the proper perspective of what you're doing. It is business. Yes. And and um someone else taught me that lesson, but I didn't listen. But um, I have a cousin who played about 19 years in the NBA. Okay. Herb Williams is my cousin. Oh wow, yeah. Yeah, so I'm you know, I'm over at Aunt Willie's house, Herb's mom, and and we're all sitting at the table, yeah, and I was like, and and he's eating, and he's eating this hamburger, and he looks at me and he says, When you go to the league, you're taking food out of somebody's mouth. He said, We're fighting for this, right? Understand that. And I was like, Wow, like is that ruthless? Yeah, but to have the perspective of what you're doing as a business owner, yes, when I have an employee come to me with a blank sheet of paper, with a pen in his or her hand, and saying, tell me what you want, yeah, let me hear your perspective. Wow, that person will always have a job because they they are they are performing at their level of work, but having my perspective. Yeah, I'm like, that's men, that's man, that's everything.

They're taking on ownership, ownership. They're taking on ownership. And um so many times we have people that's the participant, but not which we call the P, and then the O is the ownership, and we don't have enough people in the ownership. Right. So we we look for those people who uh want to have ownership or at least operate in the ownership.

Listen, I'm challenging everyone out there in TV land, in radio land, take a blank sheet of paper to your manager, to your boss, get sit down, ask them one question. Yes. What do you want? Uh he he's a he's a senior at the University of Kentucky. Okay. All right. And just I'm proud of the fact that I'm able to have a good relationship with my son. That's good. That's good. Fight for that. Yeah. Yeah. I've been married for 26 years. And there were some ups and downs. Sure. I'm real. Okay. Absolutely. You know, fight through it. You know, I'm like, had it not been for God, I mean, I don't know if there's a name of God for that. Jehovah.

I wouldn't not be here. And just the thought of you know me having to have a quasi relationship with him. And it's just, it just it meant it just would have just broke me. Yeah. And and um just to hear him talk like, you know, dad, you know, when I become a father, I'm like, oh yeah, yeah. Because I didn't have that. Yeah. And and guess what? His father didn't have that. Yeah. You know, and it goes all the way back to the right back to the plantation. Absolutely. So now all of a sudden I'm like, God, you used me to break a paradigm and break the curse. Yeah. Yeah. Break that curse.

You know what? I can say it. Great Christians in break that generational curse. That's it. Yeah, man. Yeah. Yeah, that's great. That's great. That's a proud moment. Um, how did you first um connect with Term, the Ultimate Resource Network? You know, who did you know and how was the connection made?

Yeah, so I was invited to a couple meetings by another extraordinary man, Mr. Lindsay. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

You know, first, let me just brag on him for a second. Sure, absolutely. Uh, to be in a position to where he's at and says, okay, I need to um uh have you, you know, you have your life, you can retire, you can go off into the sunset, you can do what you want to do.

You can go to Portugal, you know, you can go, you know, you know, you can have a house in Dubai.

He really could if he wanted to. He's like, no, no, no, no, no. I want you to go and invest. Now think about this for a second. I want you to go and invest in people that you might not even be connected to. Yeah, but you're connected to me. Yeah. And to be to be able to be able to submit to that, yeah. It is so powerful. Once again, going back to what we said originally was taking his platform. Yes. So I go to the meetings, a couple of them, and I'm realizing that because of my schedule, I won't be able to contribute the way that I would like to. Yeah. But I connected with one pastor Alfred Tago. Yep, yep. Which is which is another extraordinary man. Extraordinary humble. See, I'm not humble. Yeah, I'm not that man right there. That man right there is humble. He is humble. To be able to connect with him and to see the actual um evolution of it, it was just been absolutely amazing to not address but to attack the kingdom through corporate. Yes. Which is just, which is basically what we were called to do. When you think about King David, that's a corporation. Absolutely. That's a kingdom. When you look at Abraham was a businessman, you know, Moses, you know, he had a couple, got a million people in the desert. You know, I I would hate, no, no. I would love to meet his, I would love to meet his logistics chief. You know, feeding people, doing this. Crazy. Business.

Yeah. Pastor Alfred and I serve as the co-chair for the Fratern. Yeah. And so we work together consistently and regularly. Um, and I want to say thank you. I'm gonna take a pause and and and give you a shout out and say thank you for all you've been doing and helping us as well. Uh, in a sense, we had Mannerism, which is our men's ministry. And we actually have um worship tonight, uh, I'm sorry, this Friday. And um, we had a great set of men come and and you were there to um speak to them, give them motivational speaking and Christian biblical principles at Alfred's Pastor Alfred's church, and we had a great time. So I want to say thank you. I got great reports from that that um morning, that afternoon. So that session was a good that session was really good. And the food was good, yeah. You gave us that rah, uh you gave us that rah-rah, that rah-rah. That was like that was that was deep. That was good, good stuff. So thank you, man. Appreciate you, man. But um, yeah, turn and turn is is one of our main sources. We wanted to be a resource for the community, and we are doing that. Uh, we're uh sitting on five years, and I I just interviewed Burt and Stephanie Lindsay, and I said, What do you see the five next five years looking like? So, you know, peripherally, we would like to have a turn um location on each side of the town, you know, one up north, one out west, one out east, which is a beautiful hub, and then one out south, you know. So that is the goal, man.

You know, it it it it see what I love about turn, it is kind of functioning like the axe church. Okay. Um I'm gonna get in trouble again. It's fine. Go go right. But that whole centralized church thing, I mean, it's cool, but it has a place. But as a business owner, if you have 10, just 10 employees, yeah, the Holy Ghost can leverage that in a way. I mean, every every contract that is signed gives the Holy Ghost legal access.

Because it's not listen, in the spirit realm, my pastor used to always say this in the spirit realm is not what's right, is not what's wrong, it's what's legal. So now as a business owner, when I sign a contract, God has legal access.

To be able to minister to clients and to speak is just huge. So I just want to shoot that out there as an actual encouragement to twofold. Number one is to get involved in turn. Yes. Okay, and number two is to is to say, Lord, I'm gonna invite you to be the CEO and to um uh uh utilize the kingdom through what we're doing. That's good, that's good.

Um how can Turn and those around you support you in your next step, your next endeavor? Because it's a it's it's a win-win situation, you know.

We all I don't even like to go there, you know. I don't even like to really, but but but I'm gonna share something with you. Okay, yeah. I'm a motivational speaker. Yeah, you know, and I'm blessed at it. Yeah, yeah. You know, and the Lord you good at it. I'm blessed. You know, I you know, I you know, I've working with kids in Lima right now, and next week I'm doing corporate in Pittsburgh, and yeah, and I've been every you know, I'll I've been every state, you know, just speaking. But but the Lord has been on me. He's like, I'm you I want I gotta use you for my kingdom.

And to be able to speak the word of God, um, to me, that's what pulls at my heartstring. Yeah. To be able to see that altar call.

So yeah, it's like I want to, I don't want to say the word preach, but yeah, yeah, I want to preach. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, corporate's great, but there's only three fourths of the truth. Yeah. You know, your identity is is in Christ Jesus. I win. I win because he won. That's the message that I'm in called to preach to the four corners of the world. Amen. Amen. That's good. That's good. I live life, man, off of three words. All right. Okay. That's live, give, and forgive.

I live, I try, I mean, I'm not perfect. I try to live in the moment. Yes. Okay. Um, I always have, and this is so important, I always have an answer for the inner critic who says, You're gonna be poor, or this and this, or you know, you're not gonna be loved, you know. You know, to be able to refute that word. Yeah, with with the word. So huge to live, so I live that. Yeah, um, give, give. My mom taught me this. Um, when my father left, she cried to God, right? She said, God, how how am I gonna raise right? Actually, actually, six, seven kids. She adopted one, seven kids on the South Side, you know, Smith Rove, yeah, uh Lockbourne, Fairwood, South Side, okay, Southfield, South Side, okay? Right, right, right. How am I gonna raise all these kids? And God told her, now you gotta hear this, people. God said, if you give to the poor, I will always take care of you. Wow. So, and and she would sit me down, she would have her Maxwell House coffee. So you know I'm telling the truth now. Maxwell, we know Maxwell, yeah. Maxwell House, and then I would have my cup with like this much coffee and a lot of milk, right? And she'll write a checkout. This is real, this is real. She'll write a checkout to World Vision. And and his name was Douglas something. I don't know, and and and and she would feed the kids in Africa. Oh wow. Yeah, and and God always blessed us. It's a different system.

It's like everybody pays somebody, okay? Yeah. If you in if you work at Kroger's, you pay a union. If you work here, you pay that. And the higher you go, you pay. I mean, if you like in the you know, deviant game or the drug game, everybody pays somebody. You gotta pay to play. Yeah, God showed mom a different kingdom, kingdom of God. Amen. So when we've seen all these atrocities are happening, you know, these are opportunities to give. And then the last but not least, it's so important, is forgive. Yeah. You know, that's one of my struggles in life because I can internalize something and not know I'm angry. Right. Like two or three days later, I'm like, I can't, I can't pray. You know, well, that's because you got some unforgiveness in your heart. Right. It blocks it. It blocks it. It literally blocks it. Yeah, unforgiveness is associated with like 90% of all diseases. Yeah. Learning how to forgive. And once and and and because of that, it actually triggers, and which is what I want to talk about is is take your mind, like God, listen, take your mind off of what's happening next month, next year. You know, if I can, you know, drop in Matthew 633. You know, in the moment allow your moment create the momentum for the manifestation. Yeah, that's good. If you don't, then you'll you'll get to the age where you start living in your memories and not in your moments. Yeah. Focus on what is in your hand and what you have now and allow that to generate the momentum for your manifestation.

You know, um, Burke Lindsey said uh in his interview, he said, um, he calls it downloads. We call it the did, the DID. He's talking about downloads, and he said, Three o'clock in the morning. Everybody knows. Everybody knows it's three and four o'clock in the morning. He said, if you he said, if you think it, ink it. If you think it, ink it. Because most people, by morning, by the time you get up, you done forgot. So it's if you think it, ink it. So some kind of way you need to write it down, record it, whatever, when you get that download in the middle of the night. And then, of course, by morning, when you like when you get out of bed or whatever, five, six o'clock in the morning, then you done forgot about it.
