Holy Spirit from Stranger to Friend: The Spirit Who Speaks - Week 3

Grace Church Lititz

Title: The Spirit Who Speaks
Scripture Reference: John 16:12–15

Introduction
The Holy Spirit is not silent, distant, or cryptic. His voice is personal, clear, consistent with Scripture, and always points us to Jesus. Yet often we miss Him because of external and internal noise. To hear Him, we must quiet the noise, create space, and listen.

1. God Is a Speaking God—and His Words Bring Life

From the beginning, God revealed Himself by speaking.

  • In Genesis 1, His word brought creation into being.
  • Jesus calmed storms with authority: “Peace, be still.”
  • Elijah encountered God not in fire or quake, but in a whisper.

God’s voice remains calm, authoritative, and life-giving.

2. The Spirit Speaks What He Hears

John 16:13–15 teaches:

  • The Spirit guides us into truth.
  • He does not speak on His own but declares what He hears from Father and Son.
  • His words are clear, never confusing.

Like an ambassador, the Spirit speaks with heaven’s authority—gentle yet commanding, meant for obedience.

3. What the Spirit Gives You

When He speaks, He imparts:

  • Wisdom — insight to apply truth.
  • Conviction — courage to remain holy.
  • Power — strength to act in obedience.

Obedience to His voice brings blessing—today and forever.

4. Listening Requires Humility

To listen is to admit we lack answers, to silence life’s noise, and to receive direction beyond ourselves. Jesus modeled this:

  • He spoke only the Father’s words (John 12:49).
  • He acted only on the Father’s lead (John 5:19).
  • He spent hours in prayer, not just speaking but listening.

If Jesus listened, how much more must we?

Closing Challenge
The Spirit’s voice offers wisdom, conviction, and power. His words bring life. The call is simple: Be still. Listen. Obey.
