I've been in meetings where deadlines were blown, resentment was brewing, and people were checked out. And instead of saying any of that, we'd say things like, let's just stay positive. We don't want to create tension. It's probably fine. Let me tell you something with love. If you can feel it, it's already tension. Ignoring it doesn't make you kind. It makes you confusing. Here's what I learned the hard way, both in trailers and boardrooms. Unspoken problems don't disappear. They just start running the room. When leaders don't name the mess, rumors fill the gap.
