Growing up in the 1970s meant figuring out life with limited information, plenty of imagination, and absolutely no internet to clear things up. In this episode, Kenn shares a coming‑of‑age misunderstanding so perfectly innocent it could only happen in that era.
At 13, Kenn was one of the bigger kids on
his little league team. One of the “coaches”—really just a 17‑year‑old who hung
around—liked to brag about his experiences with his girlfriend. One day, he
told Kenn he had “oral sex.” Kenn, unfamiliar with the term, interpreted it
literally: they just talked about it. To
him, it sounded respectful, mature, even admirable. He was so impressed by this
“good guy” behavior that he briefly considered telling his parents about it.
Inspired, Kenn began practicing what he
thought “oral sex” meant—speaking in a suave, romantic tone, the kind of
“pillow talk” he’d heard late‑night radio hosts use on their slow‑jam shows. He
wanted to be ready in case he ever needed those skills.
A year or so later Kenn found out while reading some racy magazines that “Oral Sex” was way more than talking about it and realized his young “coach” wasn’t as innocent and upstanding as he might have thought.

Hey, and welcome to Overton B. The guys in their 60s who still think they're 60. Your hosts, Kat and Ron. And this week's guest host, my brother, Brandy. Let's get started.
SPEAKER_01It's kind of sexy.
SPEAKER_00It's called Romantic Evening at the Bar.
SPEAKER_01I kind of like it.
SPEAKER_00You kind of got that vibe down to the very white thing going.
SPEAKER_01That's right. That's right, baby. And um it's it's kind of like um leads right into the subject this week, and it's about me going. Yeah. Oral sex.
SPEAKER_00That's the topic of this. That is the topic. Wow. Let me go out of character now. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So this happened when I was about 13 years old.
SPEAKER_00But I wasn't having 13 years old.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I wasn't having a lot of people. No, I absolutely was not. Jeez. In fact, I don't even think I knew what it was. I think I know I didn't know what it was.
SPEAKER_00Okay, isn't that the point of the story?
SPEAKER_01Well, it is. Okay. But uh at 13, I'm playing baseball. This is definitely the music. It was the music, and I like it. But I'm playing baseball on this team, and I'm the biggest guy on the team. I'm not, you know, same age range as everyone, but just a little bit bigger. Tallest or bigger? Big both. Okay. Husky pants. Husky and husky, husky, robust looking player. So uh our coach was relatively young compared to the other coaches in the league. And I was waiting my turn to bat one time, and he comes up to me and he says, uh, hey Ken. I go, Yeah. He goes, My girlfriend came over last night. And uh you know what we did? And I go, no. He says, Well, we went downstairs. This is on the bench at the bank, yeah, at the game. Yeah, I'm getting I'm actually he's the coach. He's the coach, and I'm getting ready to get up. Like we're taking batting practice, so the guy that's in front of me is gonna be batting for a little while. He goes, Yeah, my girlfriend came over last night. We went downstairs and we went on the couch. He says, We popped on the TV. He says, and then we had oral sex. And I went.
SPEAKER_00Why would a coach be telling like I'm sorry, like how old are you compared to this?
SPEAKER_01I'm like 13 and he's like about 17 or 18.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so it's not like uh 45-year-old just talking to a six-year-old at the Pee-We T ball. No, but he's he's so I want to make sure I got the audience not thinking that the game the man was a pedophile.
SPEAKER_01No, he was not. He was uh way younger than most of the coaches, though. But I remember when he told me that he had oral sex. I thought, wow, that's cool.
SPEAKER_00The 13-year-old you thought that was pretty cool, huh? I thought it was cool.
SPEAKER_01And I thought to myself, um, you know, I think my parents would like this guy because he doesn't actually have to have sex.
SPEAKER_00No, only oral sex.
SPEAKER_01He only has to talk about it. Yeah. And I thought, oh, that's like that one uh show, that radio show that we had in the Detroit area called Pillow Talk. You guys remember that?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, with I don't know if I can say his Alan. We can probably say his name's Alan Alman. Alan Alman, God rest. Detroit area evening uh for those kids out there. It was on FM radio, and uh he would play and he'd talk like this, and then he'd play like kind of the music like we had when we started and uh talking and say that he was gonna put some more sexy music on for the lovers in the audience.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and it was really interesting. We wanted to um use that as the music to intro this subject, but it wasn't in the budget. I think we came pretty close. Yeah, we did as good as we could for you guys, our listening audience. But um, so anyways, so I the rest of this season, every time you know, his girlfriend came over, and I don't know, he got the opportunity to tell me about his sexcapades with his girlfriend.
SPEAKER_00This 17-year-old really liked to talk to you, this 13-year-old.
SPEAKER_01He did. He did, and I used to think, man, my parents would really, really like this guy. Well because he doesn't have actual sex. He just talks about it. He just talks about it. And I thought, you know what? His parents would be proud of him, and his minister or priest would probably be proud of him because he was saving himself.
SPEAKER_00Was he a church going guy?
SPEAKER_01I don't know, but he was sounded like he was saving himself to me. Well then we got introduced to some later on in life, a couple years later, we got introduced to some of these, you know, porno mags. Yeah. And then instead of just looking at the pictures, you know, some of us actually started reading them. And I was reading reading the stories. The reading the stories like in the in a pl in a advisor. Forum, you know, whatever they called it, where people wrote in. And one time it was your sex education class. It was partially, yeah. Yeah. I should have been desk, I should have been talking to my brother Glenn, though. And uh that Glenn. And uh I'm reading the story and I went, oh, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I went, oh, that guy wasn't just talking about sex.
SPEAKER_00No, he's not a nice guy like you thought.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't think my mom and dad would really I'm glad I never said anything to my mom and dad about how cool this guy was, because all he did was talk about it. So um that's what I thought. That's my little story about oral sex.
SPEAKER_00And uh, I'm sorry if the the you know the intro kind of like didn't correspond with the end, but that was kind of what so this guy's talking to you all that time about oral sex, which you thought was the what the girl just talks to him and he talks to her like in that sexy tone of all.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think because I had to walk home from baseball practice, like and I had to walk about a mile and a half or so, and I remember thinking to I remember not just thinking, I was actually talking like that, seeing if I could practice talking like fellow talk. Yeah, and then you uh and I've never done it since.
SPEAKER_00Was this before judo moves?
SPEAKER_01This was this was and that's a good that's good, Randy, that you brought that up. Um it was well before judo moves, but even at the time of judo moves, I still hadn't done anything like that.
SPEAKER_00That's pretty interesting. Did you I I guess the thought that I had that uh was when you were doing hand moves, were you thinking of your oral sex talk then? My hand moves?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, I was not. I was not. Well, I'm glad we didn't have that one on tape. Oh is there another topic? Yeah, we probably should end that right here.
