The four winds come blow these fish. That is actually funny thinking about them like going by. That would probably hurt the well though, now that we're thinking about it. Also, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't sound good at all at all. It would just be like hollow. Yeah, just a hollow, a hollow noise. And um, maybe that's why Jonah actually did get spit out three days later. I mean, I know Jonah prayed and the god, you know, you know, I just said the god, excuse me, and the Lord. He spit him out, but maybe it's because he really just wasn't irritant to the the well.

I mean, you might have given two. Two truths at once two things going on at the same time. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe I mean the well still had to be a part of the story. Okay. Question though, because there's a lot of ridiculous stuff that happens, and you just feel like, why was I a part of that? Yeah, like this story wasn't even about me, but I had to be in it and I had to be uncomfortable.

And um the um city of Nineveh was an Assyrian city, so it was actually pretty scary for Jonah to have to go talk to them. So it wasn't like I know we make fun of Jonah, but it actually was a big deal. Yeah. And it was it say it took him like three days to walk around the city to like to say his thing. So it obviously was a big city too. So it was a big deal. So yeah, sorry. Sorry, Jonah. We're just we're just playing. We're just joking. I don't know if you can hear just a little jokey joke. I actually I think that if I was in heaven and if I couldn't hear everyone who made a joke about me, I I don't think I would be in heaven. So hopefully Jonah cannot hear while they play in someone. It's been years, it's been thousands of years, and they're still talking about me.

Okay. So today we want to talk about how to study your Bible.

Um, I love the Bible. Um, there is many things in the Bible that makes me geek out.

Um, super love history, super love like retaining knowledge is super my thing. And then like I love geography. Um, we're gonna um just go over a couple ways.

Yeah, because practical ways. Yeah, when we're new believers, sometimes we don't know where to start. So we're just gonna give you some little pointers of where to start.

Yeah, no, it can be intimidating, yeah, but it doesn't have to be intimidating.

And even if you're not a new believer and you wanna just know some more tips, yeah, I think this will help you.

Yeah, for sure. And um, so to start off, I don't care what you're reading. I don't care if it's NLT, NIV, NSAB, King James version. Um, I know unfortunately there are a few people that will shame me for not reading King James version. I don't read King James. Um, there's nothing wrong with King James, absolutely nothing wrong with King James because I read NSAB and they're both actually the same translations. They translate word for word, nothing wrong with it whatsoever. My whole point in saying that is if you don't re understand King James Version, get a Bible you understand.

Yeah. Um, I have a King James, um, but I love my NLT, it's a spiritual growth Bible. Um, I like the commentary, but I have a King James that also has commentary, and I kind of sometimes will read them together and compare them. Yes. Um, just because the NLT does have a lot of word change, but mine at the bottom, it also tells you what words they changed and like what what was actually right in the King James Right.

I have an NSAB, which is a study Bible. A study Bible is super smart um to help break down and but I do also I have one of those two. You're covered full circle. Let's go because I do like if uh say I'm putting a sermon together, I do have my NSAB and I do have my King James, and sometimes I even pull up like the message Bible because they'll explain something, they'll they'll take one verse and explain it for like two paragraphs, but I'm thankful for it, like because it really does like help you understand something that is a lot of times makes you feel a lot larger than when I'm capable of just understanding reading from one verse. So I actually really do appreciate that. Um so but in that obviously pick a translation that's helpful to you. Yeah, and then also what I would do is like take your time and process it. Yeah, I think we had this thing where we have to check off what we've done today today for the Lord. Well, I read my Bible, but and I read 16 chapters, but how much of the 16 chapters chapters did you actually like process? So in reality, can we really check that off our list if we because you in Psalms um was it 119? He's like let your words like basically what let them download into me. Let me always have your commandments on my mind, let me live in my life be ruled by them. But yeah, you know, we can't do that if we're just reading to check off and not reading to like, oh, I want to know who the Lord is.

Yeah, like he's good, like he Yeah, and he's a word rewarder of those who diligently seek him. That's it. And so, like, if you're just reading to check off your list, are you being diligent in your seeking or are you just trying to get it done?

And you're also limiting yourself. Yeah, uh, how how good is that God put so many people together through the Holy Spirit so that we know who he is and who we are, yeah, how he operates. Like, um, we had a pastor come on Sunday morning and he said there's the issue with our Bible is that we know what we believe, but we don't know why.

How do you believe something you don't know that you believe? And how do you believe it and know why you believe it if you don't read the source of it? So yeah, I exactly. But I agree with him in that honestly, that's like one thing I've probably said a thousand times over the last couple years is how do you, how do you um it was a was it like two weeks ago I asked a fellow Christian, I said, so what does it mean that Jesus died for our sins? And he said, Oh well, he died on the cross. And I said, uh, what does that mean? And he said, Well, he died for us. And I'm not trying to put him down. What I'm trying to say is that there's a lot more to that that we can explain to people. Like I I want to be able to explain to people what that's a good starting, that's a good starting point.

Good starting point. Search your word and find the rest of the yes, yeah, because he tells us and it's good stuff.

I'm just trying to say that we have a resource that will explain that. Yeah and then we'll be able to have a you know a defense of why we believe what we believe.

Um and it will also show you the life that he also led for you before the cross. Yes. And then everything after to you. Yeah.

That's why like I think if you're a new believer, um, starting in the gospels is probably the best thing to do. Because if you come in full swing and you're trying to understand the old testament, it's just not as easy. You can, it's just not as easy. But the reason one reason I would say also start in the gospels is because you need to know who Jesus is.

When I first got saved, I didn't know. So I thought I thought I thought that you were supposed to start like a regular book from the beginning to the end. And I got to read it, and I was like, Okay, like, what am I supposed to? Okay, yeah, this is great. And but I feel like I would have gained more if I would have known that knowledge to be like, okay, start in the gospels, because then I feel like you learn like your foundational stuff if you start in like Matthew and stuff like that.

I like John, like or John, yeah. He really gives like revelation of Jesus' love for us, yeah, like who he is, and yeah. And that's that's really what we need to like hide in our hearts.

Literally, yeah, yeah. It's not like, oh gosh, that's funny. It's not like some fairy tale book. Like, you're literally telling me what happened in the beginning of the world. Oh boy, like where's this gonna take me? Okay, yeah. So starting the gospels, like um, and so what Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, they're called synops sopels. Am I saying that right? My goodness, I'm sorry. It's because they share similar stories, yeah, but they're all written from different personalities, so they still have different information in them, but you'll see like they have um synoptic synoptic in the brain. Um so they I think you can use either or it's not a synopsis, like uh um an overview of something.

Synopsis makes sense too. Yeah. Because it's an overview of Jesus and his love for us. Um, so yeah, I would start there if you're a new believer. If you just don't read from one side, okay. Don't giggly. It's like when you're in church and someone says something and you know, like, don't give icon to it.

Which I do, especially if I'm sitting next to Sarah, because Sarah will be like, I'm like, oh, don't. Okay. I'm an adult. Look at me being an adult.

So, anyways, so we're gonna go over a couple ways um to study the word. Yeah. Um, just like um and give some examples of where that study actually leads you, which I think is actually pretty awesome. And and it also like just shows you how cool the word is. Um, so the first thing, um pray, pray, yes, pray before you start.

Because it it's it's holy spirit breathed, and so it's spirit discerned. And so you want to pray like, give me eyes to see, give me ears to hear, and help me like receive this and understand this through your lens and not my own.

Good. I was gonna ask you what discern mean, but you said what discern mean. Yeah, absolutely. You said the word and then you gave us like the perfect definition of it. Yeah, um, so yeah, so ask the Holy Spirit to be a part of it, and that's that's why what does it say? Like, this is foolishness to the person who is not of God, yeah. Because it's supposed to be, yeah, you're supposed to read it in spirit, like um, like you're supposed to connect to it. That's also why you want to process it, but it's not foolishness to us, especially um when we ask him to be with us, yeah, because it it's revealing. It was awesome. Yeah, um, so um I would I would warn also of to read things in context, but don't just read one scripture, read at least the full chapter, because that's one way what we're what we do is we skew a scripture, we skew a verse because we don't read the full context of something. So, for example, uh Philippians 4 and 13, I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Um what he first of all, he was in prison. Paul was in prison, okay. He wasn't like um like trying to ask a girl out on a date or something. Like, dude was in prison, he was miserable, he was probably naked, he's like chained up, he's trying to survive. But what he's saying to us in all in all spaces, if he has lack, he knows that God will sustain him. If he has more than what he needs, he knows it's because God's good provision. Like he's he's also all we can do all things through Christ that are pleasing to God. So um, it's like finding contentment and endurance during times of deep hardship. Yeah. So we, you know, we take that that um that verse and we put it on shirts, and we don't understand the depth of what Paul's saying there. Like we have to do difficult things, and when we do difficult things, the Lord is with us, regardless of what we have lack or if we have extra.

So if we just take that one word, like that one sentence, and we don't understand the context around it, then we don't even understand the depth of it. But um, that's just an example. I know one verse that we say that is kind of used out of context, kind of uses like a leaping, like a jumping off point to the Lord's blessing to us, but it's more than that, because the Lord is good and he's sustaining. And when we go through when we it says, you know, in the old testament, when we go through the fire, we won't be burnt. If we if we go through the flood, we won't drown, because he's good to us and he sustains us. So it's not this simple Bible verse that is it is encouraging, but it's encouraging because there's a depth too. Sometimes we have sorrow, yeah, deep sorrow, and he's with us.

So that example, so like make sure that you understand the context of what you're reading, because we even right now in the world of Christians, there are things right now that are being argued because they're not in full context, yeah, and that is dangerous. So we want to make sure that we we do at least read the full chapter and not just one verse, yeah, because we also want to know how it relates to us, yeah.

Where's that moth again? No, no, you know, in the sometimes we'll come to a promise that is actually conditional to us being obedient. And if we only read the promise, but not the but you need to, you need to be, yeah.

Ooh, we're guilty of that. We love the promise, but when it says if you obey, like we'll say we're the head and not tail, but it says if you obey.

Or it says, I'll come and heal your land if you humble yourself and pray.

Yeah, but we learned tonight that it you'll be humble, you'll be humble or be humbled. Either way, yeah, so either way you're gonna be humble. That was like like unoptional because he it says that like the proud will be humble.

Yeah, because he's something to be humbled for, for sure. Um, so that was a little side note. It was good though. It was good though, which is like think about oh no, no, go ahead.

Also, you have your commentaries, your concordance, your cross-referencing, and it's good you can get a Bible, like my Bible has all of that in it.

Um, and so that's really helpful to look for in your Bible.

Yeah, because if you go to your concordance in the back, you can do topical, you can do a word study or a character. That one video that we did uh for forgiveness, that's what I did is I went to the concordance in the back, I just found the word forgiveness. Yeah, and I read every scripture from the beginning of the Bible to the end of the Bible about forgiveness, and that's how we found that you don't have a choice but to forgive. Because every scripture said there was no choice. So you'll, if you choose a topic in the back of the Bible, then you will find a way to actually just like flow from the Old Testament to the New Testament, and you will see that these things won't change. Like people are like, Ah, but New Testament church. No, friend, no, no, no. We need the Old Testament, like we need the entire thing, and all of it is relevant for always. And you'll see the Old Testament, so much of that is it's just a complete foreshadow of the New Testament, especially Christ's coming.

So we need to be reading from the Old Testament.

Yeah, and that's another thing. Read with the lens of looking for Christ, look for him in your word. Um, and if you're on our TikTok, you've probably seen the tip of the day that said, you know, when you read your Your word, look for him and see where he's at in there. Um, but also my Bible has a breakdown um of each account before the book. I think that's really helpful, but some of them have it at the back of the book. Um at the back of the Bible, yeah, it'll do like a little breakdown. Um, but mine is as you get to the book, it has a breakdown first of kind of like the timeline, um, kind of like just like what it's about and who who's speaking, you know. And so I think that's very helpful too to find a book with that, a Bible, not a book, a Bible with that in there.

Yeah, definitely a study Bible should have because it gives you again, it also gives you some kind of context.

Um I always read the commentary after because I want to be able to let the spirit form a fresh thing in me and then read and see how it correlates with the commentary. So I'm not just taking someone else's word, I'm actively participating and studying.

I also read it, uh I read a full chapter and then I go and then I read all the notes for that chapter.

Because then um I was like, oh, oh, okay. So that is also the context of what I'm reading right now.

Um, the other thing is that there's cross-references. They're either in your spine or they're in between. Um mine is in between like the chapters. Um, and like I found a good example. Um, and this is how helpful this is. So if we go to like go to Acts chapter 3, verse 10, it says, and they were taking note of him as being the the one who used to sit at the beautiful gate of the temple to beg alms, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. So if I go to the the spine reference, it'll take me to John 9 and 8. So it takes me to two different places that were that same man that was at the gate, beautiful, was referenced. So then I can even have more context of who this guy is. So John 9 and 8 says, Therefore the neighbors and those who previously saw him as a beggar were saying, Is this not the one who used to sit and beg? So it takes you from even takes you through the miracle. So remember again, so these are synopsis.

So and then Acts is actually a continuation of Luke because Acts was also written by Luke. So it's a continuation, even though the Bible doesn't have it set up that way, it has um John before Luke. And then you go back to Acts chapter 3, verse 2. And a man who had been lain from his mother's womb was being carried along, whom they used to sit down every day at the gate of the temple, which it called beautiful, in order to beg alms of those who were entering the temple. So it it just it flows you from the Old Testament or the New Testament to every case in which that that fellow was um was mentioned. So you do have a like a better understanding of his story. And this is the cross reference. Yes, this is the cross reference. Yes, absolutely. So it also flows through scripture. Um, one thing I love is I love to use the strong concordance and the lexicon. The one I'm gonna do is I'm actually going to um pull it up on my phone and there's a couple.

You taught me that because I always knew like we were supposed to do that, but I just didn't understand like like how it really worked. And so yeah, I was yeah, it was super good when I learned that too. It can be a little um because that was one thing I had a hard time like understanding because I would be like, How do the people are breaking down these words? Yeah, like how do they know what word to break down? Yeah, I didn't even know. So when I learnt that, that was very helpful.

Yeah, I didn't because I've been doing it for a while, but I I'm sure someone taught me. Like they had to have taught me. I just don't remember who taught me. But like I remember a couple years ago, someone came up to me and they're like, How do you know that it's Jehovah Jireh? How do you know it's Jehovah, like seeking new? And like, because our words are not in Hebrew. So how would someone know that? They would only know that if they went to the verse, yeah, like um, the Lord will provide Jehovah Jireh at the um well, we'll actually talk about in a minute uh the story of Abraham going to sacrifice Isaac, yeah. Isaac giving or the Lord giving him a ram instead of having to sacrifice Isaac, and he calls him the Lord will provide, but we translate that because of the Hebrew to Jehovah Jirah. Yeah, but you don't know that if you're just reading the beginning in this thing. Exactly. We have all these Jehovah Jirah. Yeah, and that's why when we sang it the other day in church, I wanted to break it down for people because I want you to know, first of all, I want you to know who we're talking about.

And that's the character of the Lord, He wants you to understand, He wants you to get it, He's not like trying to that's why his Holy Spirit is understanding and wisdom and all that stuff. Yeah, yeah.

So the reason why you don't see those words is because they're we're they're being translated from Hebrew, yeah. Um so there's a couple websites because you look, you can get a strongskin coordinates, but that sucker is this thick.

I have one, but I can also just pull it up on my phone. Yeah, literally, the thing is it's like this thick, it's a huge. I mean, it's cool. I have it in my house, but I literally I'm gonna give you three websites you can go to and you can use um all you have to do is look up a word, and I'm gonna look up a word, I'm gonna give you the example of it. So there's three websites. You can use Biblehub.com. There is Bible Study Tools.com, and the one I I prefer is blueletterbible.org.

Um, blue blue letter Bible, I feel like gives you more. And what's awesome about it is that you can even it'll even um you can hear the pronounce the pronunciation. That was actually really ironic. Pronunciation of the word. So for example, so I I thought like what would be a good one. So if we go to Matthew, Matthew chapter 24. Oh, I do have it marked. Look at me doing a thing. Matthew 24, verse 12. It says, Oh, I didn't have it marked, but whatever. Um close enough.

Yes, because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold. The um the verse in King James says that they will wax cold. So I was like, okay, well, what does the wax mean? So if I go to um if like I'm gonna pull open blue letterbible.org, um, at the very top it says you can put a word or you can put a verse in. I'm gonna put the verse in so it'll know exactly which one I am referencing. And also when you do this, so the old testament is made up of two languages. It is made up of Hebrew and it is also made of Arabic. Um wait, is Arabic the one I'm trying to say? Yeah, because there's parts of the book of Daniel that were written um in Arabic, and then so um, and then the New Testament is written in Greek. So when you're looking up words, you just remember um they're gonna look different because Old Testament's mainly Hebrew, Aramaic is what I'm trying to say, not Arabic. Aramaic. That's close. Listen, the Lord's helping me tonight. Yeah, he always tells her, you don't want to say well, I think it's because we were talking about Arabic. That is true. We were talking about it, and it's it's a beautiful language, but Aramaic. Sorry, so the book of Daniel is an example, like there's actual like points in Daniel that are written in Aramaic. Um, but at the time of Jesus, they wrote they um they spoke Koine Greek. So we have Greek in the New Testament and mainly Hebrew in the Old Testament. So I'm gonna look up this verse is in the New Testament, so it's gonna be in Greek. Uh so Matthew 24 and 12. I push go. It pulls up that for me. I just click on the verse.

And our love is just, you know, love, but their love is broken down to different specific kinds of love that we understand. Why was it written? Any um, who was it for? And that helps you, like I said earlier, to actually understand the full context. Um, there's keywords, and then you can write a definition for the keyword. Um, and then there's references. So we also use the references in the Bible, and then it'll have you kind of like think through it and like, what do you think the view of God is in this? What do you think the view of man's in it? Um, then you have a like a space for reflection, yeah, and then a place for application, and then you have a place for prayer. And this is like the best way that I found to actually break down a full scripture, yeah, and for me to kind of bring something alive. So I will actually go over what I what I found. So it's Psalm 119.11, the cur the the curse. I almost said the curse. Thanks. The verse, your word I have treasured in my heart that I may not sin against you. Okay. So the King James version, so that's the NSAB uh version. So I wrote down the King James version, the ESV, and the NLT, and the um, so the main thing is that the word that changes here, NSAB says treasured, and then um King King James says hid, ESB says stored up, and then NLT says hidden. And so then it asked me, so who wrote it? And this particular chapter, they think a priest wrote it. Then they're not actually sure if it was David or not. Um, but the way it's written is like beautiful, and it's um and it also asked me who was it for? So it's for godly instruction. You can tell that it's for godly instruction. It says, why was it written? It is also for priestly instruction. So it could have been David, but it could have just been a priest who took the time to it, it is the longest chapter in the whole Bible.

Um, I did write it because it said any significant events surrounding it. I don't know. It's in Psalms, but I do know it's the longest. So it says, so then there's a part for keywords. So I wrote treasured, hid and hidden because of those are the that's the one word in all of them that that align. So when I looked up the word, it's so fan. Because it all is the same word, it's just translated into different. So the root was to hide, is to hoard or reserve, to deny, specifically to protect. So your word I have hoarded inside of me, and I'm gonna protect anything from trying to get to the truth of your word.

So if I hoard it in my heart and I protect it and I reserve it, and I don't let any anything combat his truth, yeah, because that's what's in me, then I won't slip.

So and then Luke 2 and 19, but min Mary treasured all these things, pondering, pondering on them in her heart. So this is when the shepherds came to um like worship Jesus. So he she hid it, she kept it inside of her, and she probably any time that she needed encouragement, she came back to that thing that she hid inside of her and she treasured, and she wouldn't allow, she was gonna fight someone for it. Yeah, you can't have my truth. And Lordette. So I said, okay, so what is the view of God? His word is so important that it is needed to be hoarded away inside of man. What is the view of man? Man must fight to preserve God's truth inside of them. And so application, it makes sense that we have to deny anything contrary to his word, access to that truth. It's worth fighting to preserve in hearts to keep as treasure, especially if it's his word that causes us not to sin or slip. Mary hoarded up all the beauty of what was said to her by the shepherds so she could revisit them when her heart longed for reassurance of God's. Goodness. So I said, application. Make sure to continuously store up and pack in God's word so that in my sitting, standing, resting, etc., I can always return back to his truth that guides me.

Um, even in history class, I had to um revert back to asking questions. And so I always asked, um, let me get it. Let me find. I'll always ask the where, when, what, and who. Um, and that put in the time frame, who was speaking, what was going on, what event was happening, why it was happening. And that always led me back to the timeline because for some reason, timelines always like just kind of freaked me out because it just looked like a lot going on. Okay, and it is.

It was just like mass. And so like I like simplicity. And so just asking the questions helped me understand and still give me the full context of what was going on, who was saying what, what time period it was. Um, just like with with Paul, like um, when you read some of the things, like you can be like, who, Paul, where was he? He was in prison, what exile was it, you know, and what was going on, who was king, who was doing what, you know, and so it helped you get that timeline in the full context of understanding what was happening. Um, and so yeah. If you freak out in timelines, maybe asking the question will help you.

But if you do understand timelines, I'm just gonna make this super simple because the way the reason why she's saying that is because I did not initially make it super simple and that was that was completely on me. No, I've just seen her like here's all this information, and I just seen the timeline and I was like, oh, um, yay. And the reason why is because the old testament can be confusing if you don't understand, like, because the way that they because the New Testament really does line up more so like a timeline where it's chronological, yeah. More so. So, but the the old testament can be a little confusing, especially because you've got the prophets in there and you're like, Well, what are they writing about? And what time was that? So, I just want to explain, like, especially if we're talking about a lot going on, and yeah. So, I'm not gonna like break down every story ever. I'm literally, it's just the easiest overview of the old testament because what you'll what you'll find is um the first first five books of the Bible are that's the Torah, that's the law. So the um the the Jewish nascent, nation nason, nation, they follow the Torah. Um, you'll ask, um, so that's Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. So the next 12 books of the Bible are considered the history of Israel. And it starts to get a little confusing after that because that's when you see um actually it's not the next 12. Because uh yes, it is. Sorry. And then the so the next five books are the poetry and wisdom.

So so you go from reading something that's you know, history chronological to um something that seems more abstract. So you're like, well, when when in the world was that written? And then you go to the major prophets and then the minor prophets.

Yes, yes, yes. So the the flow of the Old Testament and the way they set it up. So you have the law, the history, poetry, and wisdom, and you have the major prophets and minor prophets. Um, you'll just see like so like the new believer when they hear that, they'll be like, oh, okay, well, what was the difference?

Isaiah is just a lot longer than the book of Joel. Like it's just that's that's it, it's just longer. Um, because all the prophets are important, they all do what they're supposed to do. Um, so in kind of a breakdown of the old testament, I'm not going crazy with it, I promise. Um the reason why it gets confusing is so you, like I said, you stopped after history and you got to poetry and wisdom. So the trying to find a way. So we know that David wrote the majority of Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon were written by Solomon.

So if we go to our chronological order, we know Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, numbers, those were written first. Those are the five law. Okay. Then we have Joshua, Judges, and Ruth were all written in the same time frame. Where it gets kind of confusing is first Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2nd Kings, and then the Chronicles. You'll actually find that Chronicles and um Kings, they have some of the same information. Um, but so they were all written in the same time frame. They're all writing about the same stuff.

Um, but it is in this time frame that the majority of everything happened. So you'll this is when Psalms was written, this is when Proverbs was written, written witness because it's this is when David and Solomon. So we have Genesis from the creation, we have the priests, Exodus, we have Numbers, we have you know law. Um, then we have Joshua where they do the conquest. Um, we have judges where we have the judges like Samson and Deborah, Gideon, all those. Then we go into first Samuel, 2 Samuel, where Samuel is called as a prophet.

And then 1st and 2nd Kings is where Israel demanded to have kings. Um, so Saul was put as king. David comes out of Samuel, goes into kingship and kings. So in that time period, that's also when Solomon becomes king, and that's where Psalms and these other three books are written: Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon. Now, there's other kings during this time period that are awful. They're awful. So there's some good kings, there's some really bad kings. So this is when we find that the next section, the major prophets and the minor prophets, this is when the majority of these were written because they were written as warnings. Um during this time frame, after Solomon was no longer king, the nation of Israel divided. There was northern Israel and there was southern Judah. Um these prophets were written at this same time to warn of exile. So they were warning the northern Israel of the Assyrian exile, and they were they were warning Judah of the Babylonian exile. Babylonian exile is the one that we reference the most because we have longer books of like um um of the prophets mourning them and like um just weeping over it and it just being awful. Um, because the bab the exile, Babylonian exile is it was 70 years, it scattered all of Israel. It was very bad. Um, so when we go to the prophets, we know that they were in this time period because some of them were warning about the Assyrian exile, some of them were warning about the Babylonian exile.

Um, and when we get to the book of Daniel and Ezekiel, they were during the exile. So that's why it says that Daniel um was was actually having to learn about the Babylonians and the Chaldeans, and he became um someone who um did the dreams for the Babylonian king, exile, we know um Ezekiel with the dry bones, because there was not an army of Israel, because Israel had been scattered. Yeah, so okay, so up to that point, all other prophets were warning of Babylon, Babylonian exile, and Assyrian exile. We get to Daniel and Ezekiel, that's when the exile was happening. So this was after 2nd Kings. Yeah, they fall after 2nd Kings. After the exile, we see Ezra and Nehemiah. Ezra is the one who rebuilt the temple. Nehemiah rebuilt the wall.

And Israel. And that's where we see the prophets Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi, because ironically so, that they went through exile, did all the things, God gave them Israel back, and then they still were kind of ridiculous. So they're like, hey, um, so God did this for you, and you yeah, so we we still um yeah, you need to get it together. So the flow of the Old Testament, and I really hope that that was helpful and I didn't just confuse everybody. I just want you to understand, like, the major and the minor prophets were actually written in the same time frame as the kings of Samuel and the Kings and Chronicles, so that it maybe makes more sense when you're flowing with it when you when you go to the book of Daniel and you're like, what time frame was this? That was during the Babylonian exile. Um, Jonah was was during the you know the time frame of 2nd Kings. Jonah was actually going to prophesy. We were talking about Jonah earlier, prophesied to the Assyrians. So um, and then some of us, some of these prophets actually had to prophesy to countries around Israel, yeah, because of pride and all those good things. So I'm not gonna go through all what every prophet like did, but just uh like a uh an overview of the Old Testament.

And so I think like when you understand the fullness, you see also the fullness in the character of God too. When you can understand what was really going on, you understand it in a different way. And then I did forget to say that Esther was in the same time as Ezra and Emiah, because that's why Esther had to go to the king. She had to talk to the king for her Jewish nation that had been exiled to Babylon. So there's just it's a lot of beautiful stories in all of this. Um, I just know sometimes it can get a little confusing because the way that they created the mapping of the Old Testament. So I hope that was helpful.
