Cameron is the lead pastor of Redeemer Church in Greensboro, NC. He earned his M.Div. in Biblical Counseling from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and is currently finishing his D.Min. in the same field. As an ACBC-certified biblical counselor, Cameron is passionate about equipping disciples with sound doctrine and practical theology to strengthen local churches. Most importantly, he is a sinner saved by God’s undeserved and infinite grace.

“Did God Really Tell You That? The Problem With ‘God Told Me’ Christianity”
In this episode of The Recovering Pharisee, we slow down and ask a big question: How does God speak today?
Many Christians use phrases like, “God told me to take this job” or “I feel called to move,” but rarely stop to ask if that language lines up with how Scripture says God guides His people. This is part 3 in a series on discerning God’s will, and we are pressing into the sufficiency and authority of the Bible for real life decisions.
In this episode we cover:
- How we got here: sovereign will, moral will, and permissive will
- What the Bible teaches about inspiration and sufficiency (2 Tim 3, Heb 1, 2 Pet 1, Psalm 19)
- Why Scripture is not just one of God’s voices but the only one He guarantees
- Why “God told me” Christianity feels spiritual but can be spiritually dangerous
- The difference between revelation (closed) and illumination (ongoing)
- How God actually leads His people today: by His Word, by wisdom, by providence
- A case study: a family “called” to move across the country, and how to walk that out with biblical clarity instead of mystical language
We also talk through real heart questions:
- What do we mean when we say we “feel peace” about a decision?
- How important is a healthy, gospel preaching local church when considering a move or a job?
- Are we running toward something godly, or just running away from something hard?
My hope is that this conversation pulls you out of superstition and into stability. You do not need secret whispers from heaven when God has already spoken clearly in His Word.
