The Brain Science of Wealth: Why Your Wealthy Self Feels Like a Stranger (And How to Change That)
What if the reason your wealthy self still feels so far away has nothing to do with your strategy, your effort, or your mindset work?
In this episode of the Dear Wealthy Me Podcast, we go deep into the brain science of wealth and the neuroscience of why that gap between who you are now and the wealthy version of you exists at a biological level.I break down the research of neuroscientist Hal Hershfield, who discovered that your brain processes your future self the same way it processes a stranger, not yourself.
That neural gap is why you can journal, visualize, and set income goals, and still feel like wealth is off in the distance. It is not a discipline problem.
It is a brain science problem
In this episode, you will learn:
*Why your brain goes quiet when you think about your wealthy future self
*How the medial prefrontal cortex creates a neural gap that keeps wealth feeling like a fantasy
*What women who consistently build wealth with ease have in common
*The research of Dr. James Pennebaker (University of Texas) on what happens in your brain when you write
*Why writing as your wealthy self is not just journaling but a form of neuroscience you can use every single day.
I also introduce the Dear Wealthy Me 30-day journaling experience on Substack, a practice designed to rewire your brain and shorten the gap between who you are and who you are becoming.

Your wealthy self is not a fantasy. She is you. And your brain can learn that in 28 days.
I write my life and then I go live it.

If you're an ambitious woman who's done everything right, the career, the family, the responsibilities, but still you feel like there's something missing. There's a sense of not quite being fulfilled. You are in the right place. I'm Tasha, serial seven-figure entrepreneur and founder of Dare Wealthy Me, co-founder of the Science of Getting Rich Academy. After years of overworking and proving people-pleasing, I finally discovered the truth. Real wealth, it does not come from hustle. It comes from identity. Now I show women like you how to combine science and spirit to create wealth with ease, joy, and freedom. Because this is your time, your wealthy era. Welcome to the wealthy me podcast. You know that the life that you're living right now, this is not what was meant for you. You know that you came here to be way more than what you're experiencing. And you imagine that version of you, that woman who she has all the things, she's done all the things, she's fulfilled her destiny and her dreams. But when you think about her, she feels like someone that's way off in the distance. She feels like a fantasy, like you're watching, like it's kind of like you're watching a movie, like you're watching her on TV, you're watching her live this amazing life, but it doesn't feel real. It doesn't like it's not a version of you that you own and you fully embody. It always feels like she's just off in a distance. She's not you yet. And so this morning we want to have a conversation about why. Why do you have that gap? What's the neuroscience behind why you have that gap? And specifically, we're going to talk about the version of you that is wealthy. This topic is all about the wealth, the science behind wealth, the brain science behind wealth. So we want to talk about there's a current version of you, there's a version of you that is wealthy in all the ways that matter to you, and then there's a gap. What's the neuroscience behind the gap? And then I'm going to give you a practice for bridging the gap, right? So welcome in. Happy Monday, and welcome to the Wealthy Me podcast. I'm your host, Tasha. We gather here every week and we create this space for high-performing women to declare I deserve wealth with ease. So you know how we roll. Let's do a little new neural pathway and type it. Everyone of you watching, go ahead. I deserve wealth with ease. Go ahead and jump in the comments. Actually, doing this once a week, even just once a week, creates a new neural pathway. And the declaration is like, yes, brain, start my Monday off with this new reality. I deserve wealth with ease. Go ahead and type it. I see all of you on Instagram and all of you on YouTube and Facebook. Jump in the chat, go ahead and type that. And I also want to show you how do you make that real? So it's one thing to declare it. And then in these conversations every week, we're talking a lot about the spiritual laws that make that true. Talking about the neuroscience that make that true. We're talking about quantum physics and the laws of quantum physics that actually help you bridge the gap and make it a reality. You deserve wealth with ease. Yes. So I'm gonna jump off my soapbox for a moment and go into what we're here to talk about. So this morning, I want to talk about why the wealthy you can feel like a stranger, why you're doing all the things, you're journaling, your writing, you're saying your affirmations, you're visualizing. But in your heart of hearts, it's either I feel like I'm still waiting for her to show up, or I feel like, you know, like I'm going through the motions, but she doesn't, it doesn't feel like me. It feels like, yes, I'm very aware there's this other version of me, but damn, like where's where's all the stuff she has in my reality right now? And so why do we have this gap? Why does she feel like a stranger? Well, there's a neuroscientist called Hal Hirschfield, and he did some research that shows us that actually when you think of your current self, when you think of yourself in context, like this is my bank balance, this is my home that I live in, this is the amount of money that I have, this is the type of business that I have. Anything to do with your brain thinking about your current reality, there's a part of your brain called the medial prefrontal cortex. It is the part of the brain that is responsible for self-processing. It's like, yeah, we know that about us, right? Your brain goes, we know that. And so when you think about anything to do with your current reality, that part of your brain lights up because it self-processes. It's like, this is our real thing that's happening right now. This is who we are, this is our reality, and your brain recognizes that it lights up. Something different happens when you start thinking about your future self. That part of the brain goes quiet. It literally, like when you think of your current self, yay, it lights up. Think of it as doing cartwheels. When you start thinking about your future self, your wealthy you, with all the money, all the living in the house, with the type of business you want, with the feeling of financial freedom, that self-processing part of the brain goes quiet. What does that tell us? A, from a neuroscience perspective, and what's called a neural gap has been created. Your brain is like, huh? Say what now? Your brain is like, who are we talking about? What? It does not see that. It does not when it's, you know, in terms of self-processing, it's like, I don't know who you're talking about. I don't know what that is. I don't know who. So we talk about wealthy me and you visualize and you write, and it feels inspiring. You know, you start to feel like it's possible, but your brain does not see it as really you. Now, this is information, but I want to take this conversation a little bit deeper and I want to talk about well, if your brain is not seeing it as really you, if that part of your brain is not lighting up, it's not accepting that this is your reality, then how does that cost you? How does that show up in your bank account? How does that show up in your financial reality? Because we're here to talk about wealth and ease combined. So let's talk about if your brain is not seeing this version of you that's wealthy, it's not processing it as this is really who you are, then how does that show up? Well, we know when we set those income goals, we're like, yeah, I declare my millions. I'm gonna be multi-millions this year. I'm gonna make six figures, multiple six figures. That's my income goal. But deep in your heart, you don't really believe it. Right? Because that self-processing part of the brain, it's like, chick, like that's not that's not for real. That's not us. We've never done that, we don't know how to do that, we're not going there. And it just like, right, dims your light, dims the light, literally in the brain. Your brain is like, girl, you're you're on something, I don't know what it is, but I'm not I'm not signing up for that, right? So then there's the thing where I'll watch women in my world, they'll write big, massive, amazing vision, you know, write it all down, do their manifested board, but they'll tell me it, it like it doesn't feel real. It feels like a fantasy. Like I know my vision board is beautiful, I have it on Canva, it's on my screen, on my phone, but I look at it and either I'm wondering when is that gonna happen, or I keep doing this and nothing. I've literally had women say, I stopped doing it because I don't see things happening, right? Well, that's because that gap, that neural gap that says this is not who you are, and it starts to get you your brain stuck, because you remember your brain just wants you to stay the same. So it starts to get you to think thoughts of this isn't gonna work, this is a fantasy, this isn't real. And then you take the action, maybe, you know, you're taking action, you're checking the boxes, but you don't have any fuel behind it. You know, it's like I'm just doing I'm taking the action for a check the box. My heart is not like you see people when their hearts are all in, like I'm in a heart all in space right now where I'm like, I don't, I'm just out here in the streets having fun. Like, I don't know how this is gonna work, I don't know what it's gonna lead to, I have no idea, but all I know is all my energy and all my heart is in it. And that's because the reason why I can do that is because I understand this whole brain science thing. So your brain sees all of your goals, it sees your vision, your vision boards, your manifested boards, it sees you taking action from the current you. And from the current you, those things don't feel real. It doesn't feel like it's going anywhere. And here is the important thing, I'll say this till I'm blueing the face. Uh, for from a neuroscience perspective, that version of you that you're writing about, that you're taking the action because you hope to get towards her, that you're setting these income goals because that's the amount of income she has, but your brain, for your brain, that version, all of those things does not feel real. And not feeling real to your brain means it is not safe. And so your brain does what it's meant to do, and it goes into protection mode, right? So you have to understand when women say to me, you know, I've I've had a woman who says, Tasha, I I remember one of my clients actually, I'm gonna tell this particular story, and we were doing some of this work, we were visualizing and journaling, and I was asking her, What do you want? And she was in the process of um selling some property that she had in her business. And she was like, I just can't, every time you tell me to visualize, I close my eyes and I just see blank, like nothing. It's just black. I can't see anything. That is your brain, go in in protection mode. That is your brain with this neural gap that we talked about, where it's like, oh, you're trying to go somewhere that we've never gone before, that's not real. And it literally, for some people, it will do that. It will literally just shut you down, right? And so I said to her, okay, here's what I want you to do. I don't want you to think about the manifested event through you. Like, I don't want you to try to see yourself because one of the things I I'll teach when we're visualizing is see yourself in that moment. I'm like, don't see you in the moment. All I want you to see is there's a check sliding across the table. It has your name and has $250,000. Just that's it. Don't put you in the room, nothing. Just imagine you're sitting at a table and all you see in your awareness is just this check sliding across to you. And that would become her visualization. And in less than three months, the property sold and she got her $250,000, right? Because we had to find a way to bridge the gap because her brain was doing what it was meant to do, which it was saying, that's not real. Why are we wasting our time? It literally was so protective, it wouldn't even let her see anything to visualize, right? So it's just your brain trying to keep you safe, and you have to understand that. But the women who consistently you watch them, they're making bold money moves, they're consistently taking actions, they're like checking off goal after goal after goal, they're building wealth with ease, they're living life as the wealthy version of themselves. Here is one thing I know they all have in common because I see it day after day. They have a high degree of what's called neural connection between their current self and their future self. They're doing something, and we're gonna talk about a simple practice that you can do. They're doing something that's making their brain accept and feel safe about that future version of them that is wealthy, that has achieved the goal, that's doing all the things. And so we we want to know, like, okay, Tasha, what are they doing? Do y'all want to know? What are they doing? I want to know, Tasha. Tell me the secret. Actually, what I'm gonna do is give you something even better. I'm gonna give you a practice at the end of this video that will really help you to call out the thoughts that you're having that your brain, when your brain says it's not real, it's not happening, we've been waiting a long time. I'm gonna actually show you how to use that, those thoughts, and I'm gonna get you, show you how to call it out and actually use it to create what you want, how to bridge this gap at a neural level. Okay. So I'm looking over here and I want to make sure I'm not seeing anybody saying over here that they want to know how to do that. Do you all want to know how to do that? Jump into chat, say it. I want I want the secrets, Tasha. Tell me. So, how do you get your brain to believe in the wealthy you? Again, some more research, University of Texas, Dr. James Pennebaker. He did decades of research around what happens in your brain when you write. You know, I tell my goddesses all the time: if you're in my world for even a short moment, I'm constantly saying, journal, journal, journal, write, write, write. So what happens? Why he did this research to prove this is this is the power of writing. It activates the prefrontal cortex when you write. The prefrontal cortex is the part of the brain that's the adult in the room. I always say the amygdala is the threat center. It is the the little kid that goes, wow, something dangerous. Oh my gosh, it's dark. There's a monster. Don't go there, don't think those thoughts, don't dream those dreams. Let me self-sabotage, let me send a signal to the nervous system to go into fight or flight. Ah, little kid, right? Throw in a tent temper tantrum. But the prefrontal cortex is the part of the brain that's the adult, it's the decision maker, it's the part of the brain that will build wealth and it gets activated when you write. So let's take that. Like my husband would say, in my line of work, we call that a clue. Okay, so if the part of my brain that actually makes decisions logically that actually will create the things that I want from a it is possible perspective, right? It knows it's possible. And if I can just get that part of the brain to activate when I'm doing my visioning work or am I creating work, then let me do that more often. And so this research shows that you're actually creating the version of you you want to become when you consistently write as that version or about that version of you. So a lot of women in my world, they'll tell me when they first meet me, oh yeah, I journal, and they're spending their time writing about the crap that's happening in their lives and writing about it repeatedly, right? Whatever they go to write in their journals, it's always their right to process the bad stuff. No problem, but just realize that that part of your brain is going to normalize that, right? So, what we want to do is use this information for good. If when I write, I activate the logical part of my brain, the part that logically knows wealthy me is possible. And I want to bridge the gap. I want to, I want that neural gap to be shortened. I want it to become like this is, I want my brain to think of me as wealthy me versus current me. I want my brain to normalize my thoughts of wealthy me, not as a fantasy and something off at a distance, but as like, yeah, that's real. That is your reality, right? Not see it as a threat. So the more I write, the more you write as wealthy you, or you write even just write about wealthy you, it allows your brain to like put down the defenses, like come down off the ledge, like take the little child inside that is worried that this is a threat. Where are you going? We've never gone there before. Wealth is not for us, all that stuff takes that off the ledge. And the part of the brain that's logical, that processes, that really can create, take what's possible and make it real, that part's part of the brain gets activated every time you write about wealthy you, or as you write from wealthy you. So you know in the Bible it says, write the vision, make it plain. Write the vision, make it plain. We have the clue. We've always had, we have always known exactly what to do. And I tell you and I tell my goddesses, write, write, write, write. You cannot write enough. I have a saying in my life, I write about my life, and then I go live it. I write about my life, I write about my wealthy life, I write as if I'm already wealthy, and then guess what? Voila, it shows up in my life. I find myself living the stuff I've written about, sometimes the same day, like it's crazy, sometimes within minutes, right? But my brain has now all these years of consistently writing, and I have no attachment as to who, what, where, when. I just know the formula says write the vision. Girlfriends, I am writing and writing and writing and writing. I have so many journals, but guess what? I can tell you with a hundred percent certainty, I have lived the stuff I have written about. And we can say that it's spiritual law. It is, it is a spiritual law. Write the vision, make it plain, and you are going to live it, right? So that's a spiritual law. But from a neuroscience perspective, you now understand what is happening in your brain. When you are not writing enough about that version of you, and you're not doing it consistently, when you start visualizing her, you start thinking about her, you even start writing one time, one and done, your brain is like, this is not real. It it keeps her off at a distance. It might entertain you for a little bit and be like, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's so cute. Yeah, oh my gosh, she's living on the beach. That's so cute. And then later on, you're doing your business, you're doing your stuff, and you go right back into the old patterns because your brain has not accepted that that's a reality. When your brain accepts that that's a reality, you will know you'll start doing things differently, you show up differently. I mean, my entire way I dress is different. The house I live in, the car I drive, like everywhere in my life, the choices I make, everywhere in my life, the Tasha I was 15 years ago and the Tasha I am today is drastically different because my brain has normalized. This is who we are now. This is how we roll, these are the things that we do. So here is what I want you to do. You all know, I think, most of you here, that today I started a 30-day series. It is 30 days of dear, wealthy me conversations. Here's the angle, though. I am showing you it's raw, real, and candid. I'm showing you how when my brain thinks, you know, the gremlin thoughts, as one of my goddesses would say, how I process that to get my brain back into wealthy me, how I journal from wealthy me, or I journal to her, or I journal as her, it doesn't matter. The writing, it's like addressing the gremlin thoughts and writing about what I want, that process of writing and claiming and saying an affirmation and then visualizing, if I do that consistently, if you do that consistently, you are going to literally create a new brain. You're going to create a wealthy brain. This is science. Don't believe me, do you owe it to yourself? Go do some research. What happens if I consistently write about the future version of me? Go, go do chat GPT. Go, go, go do some Google research, right? I can tell you the science, but if you need more, do it. All I can tell you from real life, it has changed my life. I cannot believe that it can be as easy as writing about what I want. So here is what I want you to do: type the word ease, get yourself registered. We started today. The post has already gone out. And day one, for example, is Dear Well Dimi, where's my millions? I am tired of waiting for it. I'm done being humble. Where is it? Like, I know I think that. I know you think that, right? This is a thought that we think. And maybe you try to stifle it down. You're no, that's negative. I don't want to think that. Well, in the journaling that I shared on Substack, you will see when I am aware I'm thinking those thoughts, this is how I process it. This is how I change it. Right? So go ahead, tat the word ease, check your DMs, and you know, and for whatever reason, if it doesn't work, send us an email support at TashaCen.com. We'll send you the link. But we started today, and here's what I want to say. We are gonna go, I want to see who who plays full out for the first 15 days, right? Meaning you're gonna see what I wrote. So you know your thoughts. Where's my millions? I'm tired of waiting. Then I'm gonna show you how I say, look, this is what I want. I want a I want a lot of money. I wanted to show up easily. I want to wake up every morning with more money than I went to bed. And I literally just use the negative thought and I reframe it. And I literally modeled it for you. So now I want you to go into Substack and in the comments under day one, I want you to write, you know you're thinking about where's your millions. Now I want you to use it to write what you want. Just model after me, and we're gonna do this for 30 days. I'm watching who's playing full out. I'm gonna see who plays full out. If it's a whole bunch of you, that's great. I'm gonna pick three people, and I'm gonna get on a call with you individually, and we're gonna do a session where I'm gonna teach you how to journal more powerfully. This is the best gift I could ever give you, but it's gonna be only for people who are playing full out. That's my gift. All right, so go ahead, type the word ease, go play, go write your own. Like, and listen, let's have fun. Don't be all serious on me in there. Okay. Like, talk to your well-dy me, have a for real conversation. Like, I'm ready for it to be easy, easier than it's ever been, right? Go ahead, type the word ease, jump into Substack, let's play full out. I'm looking forward to having 30 days of fun. Every single day, I'm gonna give you the prompt, you're gonna do the reframe, you're gonna create your own affirmation. And at the end of 30 days, it takes 28 days. This is neuroscience. It takes 28 days to create a new neural pathway. It create takes 28 days to change your brain, 28 days of doing something consistently towards the version of you you wish to become. That's it. Your brain can change in 28 days. You are a neurosurgeon. Yes, my friends, you are that. Go do some neurosurgery on your brain by simply journaling every day. This is it's actually more than journaling, it's rewiring your brain. All right. I can't wait to have fun with you. Let's do this thing. Let's create a wealthy brain. You can do it. I know you can. Let's play full out. Have a great Monday, everyone. Bye.
