This podcast is for women who look successful on paper and want to feel that same certainty about their money on the inside.

I’m Holly Wallis, personal finance and profitability coach. I work with women who are intelligent, thoughtful, and deeply committed to doing life well, and still, money feels heavier than it should.

This show isn't about budgeting tips. It's about understanding why money feels complicated in the first place, and learning how to approach it with clarity and confidence in your own decisions.
You will hear practical strategies, real-life experiences, and honest conversations about money stress, self-doubt around financial decisions, and the pressure to have it all figured out.

The Blind Spot Analogy
HollyWelcome to Your Money, Your Move, the podcast for women who want more from their money. Here, money is made simple, practical, and aptly doable for your life. You'll get a straightforward way to work with your money so you can see your finances clearly, enjoy life now, and feel secure about tomorrow. I'm your host and personal finance and profitability coach, Holly Wallis. So I was driving the other day and I noticed that I have this really annoying blind spot in my car that always blocks my view of whatever is coming up on my right side. I constantly have to check and double-check every angle before I make a turn. It drives me nuts. And I was thinking, how apropos that we're talking about money blind spots today.
Common Money Blind Spots
HollyMoney blind spots are the parts of your financial life you don't see clearly, or sometimes you choose not to see at all. They're not mistakes, they're not failures, they're just outside your immediate view, like that blind spot in your car. You might be earning well and handling your bills, but still have areas where money is slipping away without you noticing, opportunities are being missed, or the distraction of daily routines is subtly steering you off course without you even noticing. The important thing to know is that blind spots are a perfectly normal part of how we all relate to money. Every single one of us has them, even me. So that's why I'm excited to talk to you about why these exist, what it's really costing you, and an easy way to tune into your blind spot radar that will change everything.
HollySo you know when you're driving, there are going to be obstacles around that you just can't see, no matter how good of a driver you are. That doesn't make you a bad driver. It's just the reality of how cars and roads work. Money works the same way.
HollyNo matter how smart, capable, or successful you are, some things are going to slip by. We can't see everything all the time. There are going to be areas of your financial life that are easy to overlook. And that does not mean that you're bad with money. It just becomes tricky when we don't notice that the blind spots are there. There are all sorts of hidden areas when it comes to our money. These are the top three most common ones that we don't see coming.
Holly1) The silent leaks that happen when we don't know exactly how much money is flowing in and out of our accounts from month to month. This looks like paying more than you need to for everyday stuff, or forgetting about that subscription that you don't need anymore. It's really easy these days to put things on auto pay for convenience. Then we just set it and forget it. We think, I'm doing just fine. Then all of a sudden, cash feels tighter than it should.
Holly2) Then there's lifestyle creep. You know those small upgrades over time, like nicer vacations, fancier clothes, premium pampering services, an Uber here and there, that nice bottle of wine because hey, I work hard, I deserve it. These add up fast, and we don't even realize it until the credit card bill comes in.
Holly3) Carrying balances is another big blind spot. Whether it's on your credit cards, lines of credit, or loans, they start off feeling manageable but slowly build with incremental spending and that trap of compounding interest.
A Personal Wake-Up Story
Holly4) And for my business owners, there's the revenue myth, where we get so focused on keeping the money coming in that we forget about what it really means to be profitable.
HollyI've seen these blind spots come up again and again with the women I work with in my financial coaching program. And I caught myself doing it too. I remember so well this one vacation we took about 15 years ago to San Martin. I was very convinced that I deserved to live it up like a celebrity after the few months I had just had. I turned to my husband and I said, "Hey, I have a great idea. Let's pretend we have endless amounts of money just for fun". He just looked at me and said, "Uh, no". But let me tell you, I was ready if he changed his mind. He didn't.
HollyYou know what? Even the most capable and accomplished women have blind spots in their money because that's exactly how blind spots work. You just don't see them until you pause and look more closely. The true cost doesn't come from having them, it's from leaving them unchecked so that a slow leak becomes a constant stream and that creep becomes a rush.
HollyThere's a line I love that sums this up perfectly. The author of Bankable Leadership, Tasha Eurich said, "What we don't see controls us more than what we do".
Hidden Costs Beyond Dollars
HollyThat's big. Write that one down. What we don't see controls us more than what we do. Think about that for a sec. The things that we don't see about our money are having a greater impact on our financial life than the things we actually do look at.
HollyImagine if we could anticipate those blind spots. We already know how they're going to show up. And if we keep our eyes on more of our money, that would mean that we would get to be in control. I have to say, as a type A control freak, that makes me so happy.
HollySo living life with those blind spots unchecked is a little like driving without checking your mirrors. We can keep going because everything looks fine from where we're sitting, but the real question is, what might you be missing if you don't take a second to look?
HollySo we've talked about where blind spots show up. Now let's look at what they actually cost us. Not just in money, but in ways you may not expect.
HollyWe are intelligent, strategic, and highly resourceful women. We know exactly what we should be doing with our money. But there's also that little piece of you don't know what you don't know when it comes to blind spots. How could you? They're blind spots. And here's the proof that we're not alone in this. A recent survey by Market Watch found that 44% of Americans will ignore a financial problem until it becomes a crisis. According to Allianz Life's 2025 retirement study, 47% say that feelings of uncertainty, fear, or not knowing how or where to start are the reasons they avoid making a financial plan in the first place.
HollyThe cost of money blind spots isn't just about dollars and cents. Yes, they can quietly drain our bank accounts, but you know all that, and that's only part of the story. So let's talk about some hidden costs that maybe you haven't thought of.
HollyBlind spots touch every part of our lives, our time and energy, our relationships, and our peace of mind. Let's walk through what these hidden costs can look like.
HollyImagine a stable career, bills paid, income is more than enough to get by. But for some reason, there's that knot in your stomach every time you think about checking your bank account. On the surface, nothing's wrong. But underneath, that constant worry is there. The cost here is the emotional energy spent stressing about money instead of feeling at ease.
HollyNow picture this. You're a power couple who both work hard and enjoy a comfortable lifestyle. Money just isn't something you talk about. It just feels easier to let things roll. But you're both wondering if you're on the same page. And that unspoken worry is starting to create tension that really doesn't feel great. The cost here isn't measured in dollars. It's the relational cost measured in missed opportunities for connection and trust.
HollyIn our house, I have always managed the money. And I didn't realize that my husband was stressing about our savings until one day he decided out of the blue that we needed to cut down on everything. I asked him what he was freaking out about, and he said, "We have no money!" I asked him, how do you know that? And he said, "I have no idea". That was the exact day we knew that we had to get on the same page about our money. And Saturday morning actualizing was born. You'll hear me talk about that again at some point, I'm sure.
Couples, Communication & Free Guide
HollyBut what I really wish I had known earlier on in our marriage is how to have conversations with my husband about money that are calm and constructive instead of feeling like it's a subject we had to skirt around all the time. This is exactly why I put together a free guide to help couples get the conversation started around money. Go to the link in the show notes and download the Couple's Guide to Money Talks That Work. And I just want to say what I love about this guide is that it gives you really easy to implement steps to speak openly, listen generously, and move forward with your partner as a collaborative team in your financial journey. So go to the link in the show notes and grab your copy.
HollyOkay, let's get back to it. There is one more hidden cost of money blind spots to talk about.
HollyYou have talked about putting money aside for retirement for years, but it just feels way too complicated. And how do you know who to trust? Another gear passes, and another and another. The cost here isn't just the money that could have been invested, it's your future freedom delayed. All of a sudden, retirement at 65 looks like retirement? Who knows?
HollySo, yes, money blind spots can affect our finances, but their reach goes so much further. They touch our energy, our relationships, our time, and even our sense of who we are. But here's the thing: we get to decide whether we keep these blind spots hidden or whether we bring them into full view. And the second you do, you feel at ease, confident in yourself, and in control of your money. It's a little like finally turning your head to check your blind spot. You realize what's been there all along. And now the road ahead feels like smooth sailing.
Future Freedom Delayed
HollySo let's talk about how to shift from blinders on to a crystal clear view of your money with confidence in one easy step.
HollyIf you're anything like me, this is where you'll want to dive right into fix it mode. And as I said in the episode, 'Why smart women avoid their money?', whenever we think about changing our money habits, we always want to make a drastic change that is the exact opposite of how we do things right now. I'll drop the link in the show notes for that episode and you can have a listen later.
HollyThe thing is, if we jump into fixing first, that ends up feeling like being hyper-focused on your bank account and nitpicking every transaction. That is no fun.
HollySo instead of fixing, I just want you to notice the next time you catch yourself wanting to avoid something money related, maybe you don't want to open a bill or you think I'll deal with it later, or you just don't want to look at your spending. Pause for a sec. Ask yourself, hmm, that's interesting. What am I choosing not to see right now? Just name it. That's all.
HollyMaybe the answer is I don't want to see how much I spent on takeout this month, or I don't want to see the balance in my savings account. The goal isn't to judge yourself or rush to change it.
HollyThe goal is to make the unconscious conscious so you can choose from a place of awareness rather than autopilot. I love that concept. Make the unconscious conscious. It comes from the wise words of Carl Jung, the Swiss psychiatrist, when he said, "Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate".
From Fixing to Noticing
HollySo what I really want you to take away from this episode is to let awareness be your guide. Stop, notice, and make a conscious choice. Even if you choose to leave things exactly as they are for now, the difference is that you're the one making the decision, not your blind spot. It's your money, your move.
HollyNow, I don't want you to make changes just because you think you're supposed to. Everything I share in this show is to help you create a new money routine that is easy and stress-free so that it becomes something that you want to do instead of something that you have to do. And it's exactly what I do myself. So I want you to think about what choice do I want to make this week that will help me see my money more clearly.
HollyAnd that's today's episode. I hope you found a little something that you can take with you and try out on your own. Let me know how you're enjoying this podcast. And if you're new here, make sure you hit the subscribe button so that you'll get past and future episodes right on your feed.
