The Fairer Sex, Bombshell, Bitch, Mother, Girl Boss, Lady are some of the ways that have been used to describe women. Killer is usually not a word that comes to mind. Welcome to the Female Killers Podcast where we will explore women who have killed out of revenge, love, or just pure evil.

Shevonne:

One of the most disturbing parts of M. Shamalayan’s “Sixth Sense” was the ghost of the girl who visits Cole, and the first one he helps by overcoming his fears. When he visits the girl’s house during her funeral, she hands him a box containing a VHS tape. On the tape, we see the mother poisoning the girl and that eventually killed her. She was starting to do the same to the little sister. It was the first time I heard about Munchausen de Proxy, or as it’s now known...Factitious disorder imposed on another (FDIA). This is where an individual purposely makes a person he/she is taken care of sick, whether it to be physically or mentally. The CriticalCareNurse Journal says how the illness was found. In 1977, physician Roy Meadow coined the term Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSbP) when he described 2 cases in which the apparent symptoms of Munchausen syndrome were projected onto dependent children by mothers who fabricated signs of nonexistent illness. One woman introduced her own blood into her baby’s urine sample and the other poisoned her toddler with excessive quantities of salt.9 The MSbP parent, usually a birth or foster mother, seeks health care for her child because she is somehow personally compelled to relate to the medical care system. The abuser’s underlying psychiatric problems oblige her to gain positive attention from medical personnel, and she derives this attention by having a child with health problems. Thus compelled, perpetrators will do whatever it takes to satisfy their need. MSbP in its mildest form consists of simple fabrication of symptoms. However, if this fabrication does not garner sufficient interest from medical providers, abusers are driven to increase the stakes. Moderate MSbP is manifested by tampering with laboratory specimens, falsifying medical records, and so on. Those with severe disorders resort to actually inducing illness or injury in the child Gypsy Rose Blanchard spent years believing she was dying and had numerous diseases due to her mother Dee Dee. What is a child or adult to do when she finds out the years of abuse that they were succumbed to? Should it be ok if they hurt, abandon that person? How about kill?

Gypsy was born in 1991 to Dee Dee Blanchard and Rod Blanchard. Her parents separated before she was born. When she was eight days old, Dee Dee ran with her to the hospital saying that the baby had sleep apnea. The doctors determined that she didn’t, but Dee Dee became convinced that something was wrong with Gypsy. After that, Dee Dee would always have a watchful eye on Gypsy. When Gypsy was eight, she fell off her grandfather’s motorcycle. Dee Dee ran her to the hospital where the girl was treated for minor scrapes. However, this resulted in Gypsy Rose having to use a wheelchair until an adult, and diagnosis from her mother, who had previously worked as a Nurse’s Aide, of having leukemia, muscular dystrophy, and seizures. She would also need to wear glasses and get a feeding tube in her stomach. Dee Dee also told everyone that Gypsy had cancer and shaved her head bald. Dee Dee was able to coerce medical practitioners to prescribe Gypsy numerous medications and a breathing machine to help her sleep. Gypsy also underwent surgeries. Some of the surgeries were getting her saliva glands removed, multiple eye surgeries, muscle biopsy. It still shocks me that doctors were able to do these surgeries without actual proof that Gypsy actually needed them.

Shevonne:

Gypsy Rose might not have been Dee Dee’s only victim. Dee Dee’s family speculates that she starved her own mother to death. She also was killing her stepmother Laure Pitre. Dee Dee and Gypsy moved in with her father and stepmother and all of sudden Laure started getting sick. Family members say that Dee Dee was feeding her stepmother weed killer, and that the woman was bedridden for seven months. When Dee Dee and Gypsy Rose moved out, her stepmother miraculously got better. In 2018, Laure passed away and the family suspects that the weed killer cut her life short. Dee Dee was also arrested several times for petty theft including stealing from her own family members.

Shevonne:

After Hurricane Katrina, Dee Dee showed up with Gypsy at a shelter and claimed that all of their medical records had been destroyed due to the natural disaster. She was able to use this to get a birth certificate for Gypsy that dropped her age from 14 to 10. Gypsy had no idea how old she really was until she was an adult. Media picked up the story and charities and people showed their support. Free trips including to Disney, a car customized to support a wheelchair, money, and more. Habitat for Humanity built them a pink house with a wheelchair ramp in Springfield, Missouri and Dee Dee and Gypsy moved from Louisiana. Dee Dee barely spoke to her family. Also, Dee Dee would tell Gypsy’s dad that he could not handle their daughter due to her issues so she kept him away. The distance also helped her keep Gypsy more in her grasp. All of Gypsy’s teeth would eventually be pulled out cause they were all rotting away. It’s theorized that it was because of the medicines she was taking. The doctors did what Dee Dee wanted. If they didn’t or started asking too many questions, Dee Dee would quickly stop seeing them. In 2007, Dr. Bernardo Flastertein suspected Dee Dee, and even wrote in Gypsy’s file that “there is a strong possibility of Munchausen by proxy.” Nothing was ever pursued further. Child Protective Services was anonymously notified that there was no medical reason for the supposed ailments Gypsy had, but as with everyone else, Dee Dee was able to make them believe that Gypsy was sick.

Shevonne:

Gypsy started getting interested in dating. Gypsy always wore costumes when she attended Science Fiction and Fantasy Conventions. At one of those conventions, she met a man and ran away with him. Her mother found her that same night and threatened the man that she would call the police for him being with an underage girl even though Gypsy Rose was really an adult at that time. When they got home, Dee Dee smashed the laptop and handcuffed Gypsy to the bed for about two weeks. She would feed lies to Gypsy so Gypsy wouldn’t try and leave again. Dee Dee became more abusive because she started realizing that she was losing her grip on Gypsy. Gypsy would sneak and use her mother’s laptop at night. She joined an online dating site and that is where she met Nicholas Godejohn. Nicholas and Gypsy dated for two and a half years. She would take pictures in different costumes and the two practiced BDSM. They met at a movie theater to watch “Cinderella.” Dee Dee instantly disliked Nicholas and thought he was creepy. Even so, Nicholas and Gypsy snuck into the movie theater bathroom and had sex. Dee Dee became angry and Gypsy said that her mother screamed, insulted her, and threw things because she felt that Gypsy was paying too much attention to Nicholas.

Shevonne:

Nicholas and Gypsy started to plan to kill Dee Dee when they felt they had perfected the plan., Nicholas was let into the house by Gypsy. She gave him duct tape, gloves, and a knife. She hid in the bathroom while Nicholas stabbed Dee multiple times while she screamed out for Gypsy. All of a sudden, things would go quiet. Dee Dee’s last words to Gypsy were “Don’t hurt me.” After she died, Nicholas and Gypsy would have sex in Gypsy’s bedroom that was next to Dee Dee’s body. They would mail the knife to his house. After taking $4000, they went to a motel room and stayed there a few days before heading to Nicholas’ parents’ house. In video cameras, you can see Gypsy in the motel with a dark wig.

Shevonne:

The pair headed to Nicholas’ parents' house. From there, they went on Facebook and posted the following: “That bitch is dead” and “I f___en SLASHED THAT FAT PIG AND RAPED HER SWEET INNOCENT DAUGHTER ... HER SCREAM WAS SO F____EN LOUD LOL.” This alarmed friends and family who called the police. On Sunday, June 14 2015, Dee Dee was discovered in her home... brutally murdered. Police traced the IP address of the Facebook post back to Godejohn’s home. Gypsy and Nicholas were arrested and charged with murder. In “The Act,” it was shown that the two wrote those posts so that someone would find her mother’s body. This was something Gypsy had said so that her mother would receive the proper burial. Family and friends were shocked when they saw Gypsy walking and with a head of hair into court. Gypsy was given ten years in jail, and Nicholas was given a life sentence. They both admit that Gypsy was the mastermind. Gypsy Rose told ABC News from prison: “The prison that I was living in before, with my mom, it's, like, I couldn't walk. I couldn't eat. I couldn't have friends. I couldn't go outside, you know, and play with friends or anything,” Gypsy said. "Over here, I feel like I'm freer in prison than with living with my mom. Because now, I'm allowed to … just live like a normal woman.”

Shevonne:

Well what did you think? I am torn between the sentences of both Gypsy and Nicholas. I do believe her mother would have eventually killed her, but that isn’t enough to murder her. Gypsy could have walked away, but when you have been brainwashed since a little girl, and that person is your mother, I can see why she didn’t. It would have been better if she did though. I do think that if both of them were sentenced, the sentences should have been a little bit more equal being that she was the one who was the mastermind in her mother’s murder. It’s been said that Nicholas is mentally challenged and easily manipulated. However, it’s like half of the Monsters of Ecatepec Patricia Martinez, he still participated in the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard. It was also indicated that he wanted to rape Dee Dee. I do wonder if he hadn’t said that if his sentence would have been shorter. Gypsy was already in prison for 19 years before she murdered her mother. I just hope that both of them are getting mental health services. It was said that Gypsy is now engaged to a man who had been writing her in prison. Gypsy says in a documentary, “That she learned a woman’s role is to be submissive and a man’s is to be dominant.” It is concerning, and I just hope that she doesn’t end up being someone’s victim when she gets out of jail. My daughter and I watched Hulu’s “The Act” with Patricia Arquette and Joey King, and we thought they did a great job acting as well Calum Worthy. I do recommend it. I read an article a couple of weeks ago that Gypsy Rose Blanchard is planning to sue Hulu cause of the show due to them making money off her, so we will see how that turns out. I was a bit worried on doing a podcast on Gypsy Rose because due to show, many people have been doing shows on her even Dr. Phil did one even though I didn’t like that he made it seem like Nicholas was 100% the reason Dee Dee is dead. I felt it was both Nicholas and Gypsy. I decided to still do a podcast because I have been fascinated by this crime for a couple of years. Hopefully, you learned a bit more on Gypsy Rose and thanks again.
