Is My Friend Jealous of Me? How to Spot the Signs Before It Damages the Friendship
Big Slick here 👊 Got a story or need advice? Text me now — might make it on Talk Ya Sh!t! 🎙️💯
Some friendships feel solid—until your life starts leveling up. In this episode, Big Slick breaks down a raw listener letter about dealing with a jealous friend and the hidden signs of envy that most people miss. If your wins make someone act distant, cold, or competitive, that’s not support… that’s insecurity.
We get into the psychology of “same-level comfort,” where certain friends only liked you when you were easier to match. We talk about nonchalant reactions to your success, weird energy shifts, and the uncomfortable silence that follows your good news. You’ll learn how to spot quiet envy early, protect your peace, and stop giving access to people who drain your momentum.
You’ll also get a clear step-by-step playbook:
• How to reduce access without starting drama
• What to stop sharing with jealous friends
• How to build a circle where success is normal
• How to cut dead weight while keeping your dignity
If your peace feels taxed every time you answer the phone, that’s your sign. Choose people who clap without competing, support without comparing, and grow without resentment.

What up, what up, what up, what up? It's your boy Big Slick, and welcome to another episode of Talk Your Shit. As always, we got another great show for you today. But first, I want to give a shout out to the audience. Whether you're at home, at work, in your car, all the truck drivers on the road, I appreciate you tuning in. Yo, let's check it out, man. We're gonna jump straight into this letter. I'm gonna give you my honest, unfiltered, raw, uncut opinion because that's what I do. Let's get it popping. I think my friend is jealous of me. Every time something good happens for me, he's hating on me. But when something good happens for him, he wants the world to applaud. Man, yo, it's it's it's crazy how real the hate is out there. It's crazy, man, that you know, that you'll have a friend, well, quote unquote unquote friend, because if you got a real friend, your friend ain't hating on you. You know what I'm saying? Your friend shouldn't hate on you, but this this happens though. So you got a friend, you start leveling up, you know, you start doing different things, you start making stuff happen, you know, you you focusing on different you know aspects of your life and actually making them better. A lot of people can't deal with that because what happens is that a lot of people like you more when y'all on the same level, right? They like you more on the same level, and a lot of people are not used to change, change makes them uncomfortable. Change is uncomfortable in a person's life, whether they're changing themselves or people around them start changing, so it's uncomfortable for them. So this is what happens when you're not dealing with real friends or real people in your circle. When you start changing for the better and doing better things and leveling up, friends start hating, right? So you might be going, you know, yo, I got this going, I got this, I got this happening. They act nonchalant about it, you know, they don't really talk about it. But Tom, they do something, anything, it could be something small. They want everybody to clap for them, they want a pat on the back, they want this, they want that, but they don't show you no love when you're doing the same thing. So I would say honestly, this is not a friend at all, right? This is not a friend at all. And I would cut this person off immediately because they dead weight. And what happens? How can you level up if you're holding dead weight, right? Cut that weight off. It's easier to move up when you cut off dead weight. You know what I'm saying? So I would cut this person off, right? And then when when you do, when you are in this position, when you start leveling up and bettering, bet bettering your life, a lot of people can't deal with that change, man. They just they just can't. They they they feel like they're being left behind, so they start to hate on you, right? And that's what happens, you know, and then you got to create, you know, other well, other circles will create themselves when you keep that positive energy. You'll bring people around you that with positive energy will come around you, so you don't even got to worry about that, you know. I'm saying, and people that's haters are start cutting they self off. You truthfully, you ain't even gonna really have to cut this person off because if you keep on doing good things and leveling up, they ain't gonna want to mess with you anyway. So they gonna drift, they're gonna start drifting away from you, you know, a little bit at a time, they'll start drifting away, and you you, you know, you ain't even gonna see them no more. That's just what happens, man, when you start changing and doing good things. But I would definitely get away from this person because that negative energy ain't gonna do nothing but slow down your process, right? And I think a lot of times what happens is that when you got friends that's really not your friends, and you start leveling up, you a lot of people will still be loyal to these people that's negative, and that's only messing up your blessings, that's only messing up what you got going on. So, why would you be loyal to somebody that don't want to see you do better, right? So, people gotta break this this this cycle of being loyal to negative people, right? And you gotta start cutting people off that don't show no purpose in your life. If a person is giving you it's what are they doing for you? What purpose do they serve? And I'm not talking about you know, money like that. If a person don't gen genuinely make you happy, then you shouldn't be around them. It's just simple as that. And people gotta start looking at stuff like that. If I'm not happy when I'm in your presence, or if I feel irritated or frustrated or anything of that nature that's negative, then get away from me. Go that away. Why are you still standing here talking to me? You shouldn't even be around people like this. We got to start getting people like this away away, man. Get them, get them away from you, you know. And yes, your friend is jealous of you, and you need to cut them off. They hating on you. It's haters everywhere, man. It's it's it is what it is. Use your haters as your motivators, you know. That's what I say. You know, if you don't got no haters, you're not doing something right. So keep it moving. You know, cut them off, keep it moving. Yes, the person is jealous. Yes, the person don't want to see you do better, so you don't need them around you. This is another easy one for me, man. Cut these dead weight people off, keep on leveling up and keep on doing your thing, man. And forget about the haters, man. Keep on pushing, right? That's what it is. This is Big Slick.
