Ever had a coworker present your idea like it was theirs? This episode breaks down idea theft at work, office politics, and exactly how to protect your ideas so you get the credit, raise, or promotion you deserve.

A listener writes in with a story many professionals know too well: great ideas shared casually, then suddenly showing up in meetings without their name attached. We don’t sugarcoat it. We explain why coworkers steal ideas, how oversharing creates risk, and what actually works in real workplaces.

You’ll learn practical strategies to stop idea theft before it starts:

  • Why you should share up, not sideways
  • How to pitch ideas directly to decision-makers
  • How to create a paper trail that protects your authorship
  • When to loop managers and executives into conversations
  • How to handle coworkers and managers who take credit for your work

We also cover how to build a small, trusted feedback circle, publish updates in shared spaces, and escalate professionally without drama. This isn’t paranoia—it’s career strategy. If you’ve ever felt overlooked, under-credited, or burned by office politics, this episode gives you a clear plan to protect your work and move forward with confidence.

You, you, and you. I think you, yeah, you too. Now, let's talk about it. What up, what up, what up, what up? I'm your host, Big Slick, and welcome to Talk Your Shit. You already know what it is, man. We got another great episode for you today. But first, I'm gonna give a shout out to my listeners, man. Whether you're at home, at work, in your car, or the truck drivers on the road, I appreciate you tuning in. Listen, we got another great episode. I got another letter in. You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna give it to you unfiltered, raw opinion, because that's what I do, man. Listen, let's jump right into it. My co-worker is stealing my ideas. What should I do? Oh man, listen, this is crazy. What should you do? Your co-worker is stealing all your ideas. What should you do? Slap the shit out of them. Listen, man, it's crazy the way co-workers be stealing your ideas. Listen, the first thing I would do is was the first thing I said to do, but look, you might not want to do that. This is what you should do, man. Yo, a lot of times you gotta watch who you're talking around at the job, man. You gotta watch who you're talking around. So the only way this co-worker can steal your idea is if you're telling them or her your ideas. How else they're gonna steal your shit? You know what I'm saying? Unless they read your motherfucking mind. And if they read your mind, they shouldn't even be working at your job, they should be doing something else different with their skill set. But bruh, stop talking to everybody at your job. First thing what a lot of people gotta realize is this just because you work with a person don't make them your friend. Let me say that again because a lot of people that might have missed a lot of people. A lot of people don't understand this. Just because you work with the person, it does not make them your friend. This is where we make mistakes at, man. A lot of us go to jars, man, and be talking to these people. These people are not your friends, man. They might act like they're your friend, but they're not your friend. So stop now. You know what? This is what I want. Let me clear it up a little bit. You can have a friend at work, you can to everybody is not up, majority of people is, but everybody is not fucked up on a job. But it's a lot of fucked up people on the job, and everybody is not your friend, man. So stop talking to everybody about your ideas. And if you got ideas that can improve the job, why are you talking to another coworker about it anyway? What are they gonna do? They can't give you a raise, you ain't getting a promotion. So why even share the idea with them? You know, and a lot of people do this outside of work, sharing your ideas before you make moves on them. You can't share your ideas with everybody, man. You what you need to do is put shit in action first, and then whoever sees it, see it. But stop telling everybody your next moves or your future plans, just do it, you know. Everybody don't deserve that information, but you've given up all the intel for free. So now you got a situation where at the job, co-worker is is stealing your ideas. Now, on here, it don't say that the co-worker stole your ideas and got promoted. But the co if you're mad and you send in this letter and something happened, the co-worker either getting the the pats on the back or you know, some type of credit, might be getting a raise, might be getting a promotion. Who knows? From your idea, your co-worker fuck around and be your boss. Now they dragging you. But listen, stop talking to co-workers. And what should you do? This is what you should do moving forward, right? If you have an idea, tell it to the right person, tell it to the boss. Why would you share your idea with a coworker? They can't do nothing for you. Talk to the boss, talk to the director or manager, skip past. I I would talk to the director if the director is present on site. I don't know how your job is you know set up, but that's who I would speak to. And then he then the director can work it down to the manager, assistant direct, however they want to do it. But I would tell any ideas that can better the job to the highest person I can get to because you know what's gonna happen. All them little people in between, they'll try to steal your idea. You know, a supervisor beats you in the head for a good idea, run to the manager and come up with it, you know. Like they, you know, that that's just people are like that, man. People fucked up out here, man. That's what I'm telling you. Watch who you're talking to. This person, slap the shit out of them, just get over it, man. Just they stealing your ideas at the job. You ain't getting no credit for it. Come on, man, they ain't giving you a raise. What's going on, bro? Slap the shit out of them. Moving forward, don't talk to nobody and tell them your ideas. Speak straight to the boss yourself, you know, or whoever it needs to be, and get that promotion, get that raise, you know, whatever, whatever accolade you're looking for, get it directly from somebody that can actually give it to you. Because these co-workers, man, they they full of shit, bro. They they just full of shit, you know. I'm saying so. My advice to you is stop talking to them and slap the shit out of them. You already know what it is, man. This this was a it's another easy one, man. This is this is another easy one. You already know what it is. This is big slick, man. Yo, check it out.
