Hey Lydia.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Are you hungry?
SPEAKER_01A little?
SPEAKER_03Wanna snack?
SPEAKER_01We're talking about snacks today, guys, as Amy very subtly opened up the podcast.
SPEAKER_03I'm so subtle.
SPEAKER_01Uh today you're gonna learn about why Amy can't have snacks at her desk.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_01We we talk about whether healt snacks can be healthy or not. So tune in. It's important life advice.
SPEAKER_00What's up, Amy Students?
SPEAKER_03On the microphone, you've got Amy and Lydia. Woo woo!
SPEAKER_01We're back with another Thursday episode as always.
SPEAKER_03We're back with this will be on the test. Will this be on the test? Some of it might.
SPEAKER_04I mean like this in case maybe.
SPEAKER_01So make sure to grab a notebook and pen. Because this will be on the test. Hello. Hello. Um, it's it's funny when embarrassing things happen in my life now. I think at least I can tell it on the podcast. Like a good story. So today, um, I'm on my period, and sometimes when I'm on my period, my brain is kind of fuzzy. Like I'll I'll drop things or like I'll forget things and stuff.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_01So I'm gonna blame it on that. I was driving in the car. I was driving.
SPEAKER_02It's always good when you start your stories with my brain's been kind of fuzzy. I was driving.
SPEAKER_01We already established that I shouldn't be riding a bike. Maybe we'll establish that I shouldn't be driving a car because Domini was in the passenger seat and I came to a roundabout and I saw a cyclist, and he went out. So to go out, he stretched out his arm to signal that he was going out. And then I entered the roundabout and I wanted to leave the roundabout and I went to stretch out. And I was genuinely confused. I knew that that wasn't correct. Like I didn't do the full movement. I lifted my arm and then I was like, wait, what am I doing? And then I had a few seconds of wait, how do I second on the car?
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, you just how did you pass your driving deck also on a roundabout? I'm assuming you're stretching out your right hand, which is very clearly in the car. You're not even stretching out the one out the window.
SPEAKER_01I'm stretching out the hand that clearly nobody wants to do that. I'm stretching it out. Um yeah, so that's that's what I did.
SPEAKER_03Okay, well, this is gonna be a great episode if that's your headspace.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's in my headspace right now. I don't know why, but sometimes, you know. That's how my periods go. So fun times.
SPEAKER_03Fun times. Um Dumini, if you're listening, maybe you drive next time.
SPEAKER_01Domini asked me not to tell this on the podcast. I was like, uh, at least I can tell it on the podcast. He's like, don't. People are gonna think you're so stupid. He didn't say that, but I think that's what he meant by it.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Well, next week I'll tell an embarrassing story because I definitely have one as well that happened recently. That I do not seem like the smartest person.
SPEAKER_02Okay, good. We'll try each other off. But let's get into the would you rathers of today's today's episode.
SPEAKER_03Lydia, would you rather give up chocolate or cheese forever?
SPEAKER_01This is a very difficult question for me. I love both. Same.
SPEAKER_03Same.
SPEAKER_01Also, wit being on my period, the whole chocolate thing seems very appealing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but also cheese.
unknownCheese.
SPEAKER_01I'd have to I I think I would have to give up chocolate. Just because cheese elevates so many good meals. And you can have cheese in a somewhat like healthy way. And chocolate. I mean, unless dark chocolate, but we're not talking about the real dark chocolate. Cheese. I'd rather give up chocolate. I want to keep cheese.
SPEAKER_03I think I'm on the same boat. Like I didn't think I would be because I love chocolate.
SPEAKER_01I love chocolate.
SPEAKER_03Oh. And so many good things are made with chocolate. That would be really sad.
SPEAKER_01Yesterday we went to the movie theaters and I wanted MMs, and Domini wanted these Kit Kat little Kit Kat Balls. Have you seen these before? Nope. We um did rock, paper, scissors because we're we're adults, and he won, so we got the Kit Kat Balls. Damn it. They're not good.
SPEAKER_03No?
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_03But Kit Kats are good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I like Kit Kat. But Ms are the biggest.
SPEAKER_01That's like the one thing in chocolate that I can think of. It's not good, but MMs.
SPEAKER_03MMs are great.
SPEAKER_01MM's are dope.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but cheese is just like a nice mozzarella, cottage cheese, parmajam. There's too many good cheeses out there. Yeah. I love cheese. Cottage cheese. I already said that, but you said it would be a cheese. Okay. So we're on the same track. Um, would you rather give up snacking entirely or only be allowed to snack on rice cakes?
SPEAKER_01Plain rice cakes?
SPEAKER_03Plain rice cakes. Not airplane rice cakes.
SPEAKER_01Can I do cornflakes? Cornflakes.
SPEAKER_02No, that's a very different snack.
SPEAKER_01Corn corn cakes instead of rice cakes. Sure, they're because I really like corn cakes. Okay. It's like um popcorn.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. But in a cake.
SPEAKER_01I think I would choose that. I think I would choose the corn cakes. I'll like them. And it would cost me to snack less, which is I mean, probably not a bad idea. Um and the nutritional value isn't so high, but also the calories aren't so high, so it's kind of like snacking popcorn. Yeah. I'd do that. I would show.
SPEAKER_03I was thinking the like the benefit of having to give up snacking entirely is probably really good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03But it's probably similar with rice cakes. Like I sometimes when I'm like feeling super healthy, I'll just be like, okay, I'm snacking on rice cakes. Cause like I know I'm not super hungry, I'm just kind of bored. So rice cakes are like a good in-between.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um, so I think I'd take the rice cakes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, me too. Because I mean when you're doing sports, sometimes you do need a snack. Yeah, rice cake won't do much for you, but it's better than not being able to snack at all.
SPEAKER_03I didn't think about that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03That would suck.
SPEAKER_01Oh what's up?
SPEAKER_03Doing like an intense sport and all you get is rice cake.
SPEAKER_01You're gonna triathlon and you get rice cakes, you got dry mouth, and you're still hungry. Or it would be so sad.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Today I went for a run because I was like, I made sweet focacchas. I want to be able to eat like I want to eat those and like really, really enjoy it, so I'm gonna go for a run because I know I'll enjoy it more then. My point being, I eat I go and do sports so that I can snack.
SPEAKER_03I said that yesterday uh with a friend of mine here, because last year Tarek baked a lot of cakes. Yeah. And I was and she was like, Do you work out more when he bakes more cakes? And I was like, There's definitely a correlation. And she's like, Oh, I'm definitely not like that. I was like, No, I just like I'm more comfortable if I've done sports, like if I'm eating unhealthy. Like it's just a more comfortable way for me to be. And she's like, Okay, that makes sense. And it wasn't like he made cake, I ate a piece of cake, therefore I have to go for a run. It's just like let's I mean it's not gonna balance the scales because like I can't burn as many calories as I can eat. Because I can eat a lot of calories in a city. Um, so yeah, that was my revelation.
SPEAKER_01A long-winded way of saying you choose the rice cakes, also, right? I'd also choose the rice cakes exactly. We agree.
SPEAKER_03Alright, should we move on to the next segment, the main segment? I found a Reddit post and I really liked the title. So I will read it to you. Is it just me or is healthy snacking kind of a contradiction? I try to eat mostly a healthy diet. When I have time to cook, it usually feels pretty straightforward. But when I'm on the go, like driving, traveling, or just short on time, I always feel stuck. When I look at most savory snacks, even in like healthy places, like whole foods, they seem to fall into a few buckets. Fried in oil, very high in sodium, heavily processed, framed as healthy, but mainly because there's protein added. None of those really line up with how I want to eat. I go back and forth on this, so I'm curious how others think about it. Do you still leave room for shelf stable savory snacks, or have you basically decided that snacking just doesn't fit and uh the convenience is something you accept giving up?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, this is a well-phrased question. Alright. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um so I had some questions here. Um Do you think there are store-bought quoting quote unquote healthy snacks?
SPEAKER_01I mean the ones that are labeled as a snack, none come to mind. I'm a snack. You want to be a store-bought snack?
SPEAKER_02You whatever kind of snack you want me to be girl.
SPEAKER_01Gosh. Um, but I mean, this might be on the nose, but you can buy like an apple or or something at the store.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Or rice cakes. Yeah. And I do feel like rice cakes are not unhealthy.
SPEAKER_01And then I think you can build healthy snacks from buying a few things from the store, but I don't know of any snacks that you like buy and go, like even the healthy vegetable chips and stuff, they're not healthy. They're just a healthier alternative, yeah. But I don't know of any snack that is labeled as a snack and pack packaged as a snack that is healthy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, except for like cut fruit and cut veggies and stuff that you can buy at stores.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but even there, don't they sometimes like to preserve it, they'll put um syrup over it or they'll put like some kind of thing. I don't think on the vegetables, because that'd be weird. Not on the vegetables, but on the fruit. And if you buy the fruit salad, sometimes they'll like add stuff to it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And there I think I understand if you get it because you're on the go and stuff, but there I kind of think there's so much plastic involved in that, and it's sitting in the plastic, and so you get the microplastics from that that it might make more sense to get an apple and eat that instead.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Even though I realize it's less fun than getting the fruit salad.
SPEAKER_03Do you have a go-to snack when you're like traveling or or like what do you look for in a snack in those moments when you don't have anything on you, you weren't super prepared and you're hungry.
SPEAKER_01Honestly, I'll I'll just get a protein bar usually. I know that it's not per se healthy and they have a lot of sugar in them and everything, but they do keep me full for quite a while. Yeah. Which is a nice thing. I feel like most other things that I'll snack on, I will be hungry in an hour, and then I'll end up eating more. So I kind of feel like the protein bar is a lesser evil. And yeah. When I'm on the go, I'll probably go for that or like a protein shake or something.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01What about you?
SPEAKER_03I would say same. There are a few protein bars that I like and a few that I really don't like, but I also agree that like they satiate me for longer. Yeah. I just need to be very clear, like it's still it's still candy, kind of. And it's a healthier alternative, but it's still like candy. Yeah. And I think would I rather buy buy a bounty or a protein bar? A protein bar.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I kind of compare them like that. Um or like rice kneck cakes or kneckebrot. Mm-hmm. And there are these like little rice cakes here in Switzerland that are sour cream and onion flavored, which I'm sure are not healthy. But I think when I go, it's not about like, okay, I need to be really healthy because I focus maybe more on the meals I cook of being really healthy. And sometimes it's just about finding the healthiest option at a store.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And yeah, sometimes you don't want to buy an apple.
SPEAKER_01No, it's just not fun to snack on an apple.
SPEAKER_03Sometimes it is. Sometimes apples are great. Apples and cheese.
SPEAKER_01Apples and cheese. Apples and peanut butter.
SPEAKER_03Apples and peanut butter. Delicious. You can pimp up an apple.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Is there a snack that you swear by? One that you go back to all the time?
SPEAKER_03I mean, I wrote like a list of apples and.
SPEAKER_01Oh, these are the ones you swear by.
SPEAKER_03These are like my favorite healthy snacks. Oh, okay. And then my favorite snacks that I pretend are healthy.
SPEAKER_01Okay, okay. Um but what if you have to pick one? Like the question before, you have to pick one snack that you choose for us for the rest of your rest of my life. Life.
SPEAKER_03I don't know if I could do that. You have to. I know, but I don't want to.
SPEAKER_01The fate of the podcast depends on that.
SPEAKER_03The fate of the podcast. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Ah, no pressure.
SPEAKER_03No pressure. Oh, but I I like flip-flop so much. Like, do I want savory? Do I want sweet? I probably go with melon.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that makes sense. The amount of melon that you eat in your life is wild.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I really like melon.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's not the most convenient snack though. Like, I need a taperware, it takes up a lot of space. You need a knife. Like, you need to be able to cut the melon. It's a very inconvenient snack, which is why I wouldn't love to pick it, but that's the thing.
SPEAKER_01Like, with the question that the person said is like, do you give up on snacking because there's no way to what did she say? Um do you still leave room for shelf stable savory snacks? Or have you basically decided that snacking just doesn't fit and convenience is something you accept giving up?
SPEAKER_03Okay, but let's wait, let's first say what is your like favorite go-to snack and what is your favorite shelf stable snack? Because I think those are two different ones for me.
SPEAKER_01My favorite go-to snack, because I know it's also healthy and I think it's delicious, is uh corn cake. I like them better than rice cakes because they taste like popcorn. And then cottage cheese. Yeah. And then some salt. And maybe if I have it in the fridge, some cucumber or something. Nice. That is like premium snack for me.
SPEAKER_03Oh, can I change my snack? Yeah. I actually have a very similar snack to you. Yeah. It's also like rice cake or kneckebrot. This is like my go-to snack when I come home and I'm super hungry, but I want to do a workout before dinner. Either cottage cheese or yogurt.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03With Chipotle chili mixed in, so it's like a little spicy.
SPEAKER_01Nice.
SPEAKER_03And then some cucumber or shredded carrots on top.
SPEAKER_01That sounds really good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. It's delicious.
SPEAKER_01There's a kid screaming in the background. If you guys can hear it, sorry, but it's not ours, so we're not responsible. Yeah. Anyway. We're not responsible for it. No, either sentence.
SPEAKER_02Correct.
SPEAKER_03Um okay, what about your favorite shelf purchase?
SPEAKER_01It doesn't have to be healthy.
SPEAKER_03It should be healthy.
SPEAKER_01It should be healthy.
SPEAKER_03And then we can go into the unhealthy one because I have a list of it.
SPEAKER_01Um I mean a protein bar. Yeah. Or a banana.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01Those would probably be the two. Because I don't feel like the the like the crackers. I don't feel like those are especially healthy. Those thought would be the crackers. But yeah, protein bar or what do you say? Banana.
SPEAKER_03Banana.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Nice. I have different ones depending on the countries. Because like in Mexico, we used to get baby carrots.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, those are nice.
SPEAKER_03Those are nice. I know they're just big carrots shredded down and it's stupid, but if you're in the US or in Mexico or anywhere that sells baby carrots, that that is my go-to. Like if I'm hungry and there are baby carrots, 100% that's what I'm getting.
SPEAKER_01They're fun to eat.
SPEAKER_03With hummus, without hummus. I don't even care. I just like a paper carrot.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um here.
SPEAKER_03I don't know.
SPEAKER_01The disappointment in your eyes. Here. We don't have baby carrots so.
SPEAKER_03It's not the same.
SPEAKER_01It's not the same.
SPEAKER_03Um, I like those. Okay, this is gonna sound really weird. But I like snacks made for babies because they have less sugar in them or like for little kids.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So there are like these animal crackers, not the US animal crackers. Those are cookies. They're like animal-shaped crackers made with like apple puree instead of sugar. Or the like squeezable the squeezies. The squeezies with just applesauce. Yeah. Um, yeah, I really like those.
SPEAKER_00I know people who use those for sports. Yeah. Instead of like gel packs, they use squeeze.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Pretty nice.
SPEAKER_03I do check though that I get the right ones because a lot of them do have a lot of sugar in it. Yeah. And that then it's like, well, I might as well get a candy bar.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Fair enough.
SPEAKER_03Well, it's a weird comparison.
SPEAKER_02Like a fruit squeezy or a candy bar is not equivalent.
SPEAKER_01But the sugar content could be solar.
SPEAKER_03The sugar content, like it's just it's something sugary and something sugary. Yeah. But I'm yeah. Anyway. What's your go-to unhealthy snack? Sorry. I'm just so interested.
SPEAKER_01I love chips. Name them. I'll eat them. I really love a good chip. I really like, ooh, in um Scotland last year we found red onion and red onion and cheddar. Ooh, delicious. We ate so many clothes. Yeah. I love a good chip.
SPEAKER_03Me too.
SPEAKER_01Paprika.
SPEAKER_03In the US, we found I think jalapeno sour cream or something like that. Anything sour cream. So good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I love chips.
SPEAKER_01Chips is my downfall. Coke.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01Really like Coca-Cola.
SPEAKER_03Same.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, which is unfortunate because I don't have very good teeth.
SPEAKER_03Me neither.
SPEAKER_01So.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Um, I just want to shout out a snack real quick. If you're looking for a healthy snack and you're like, eh, I don't know. One of my favorite snacks that does take a little bit of preparation. Frozen grapes. It's like uh candy.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Like if you're if you're really trying to not eat as much candy and you're because I get a sweet tooth after eating dinner, and then I get just like a little bowl of frozen grapes. Mm-hmm. And that usually satiates it.
SPEAKER_01You gotta be careful because grapes have a lot of sugar in them, also.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but if it's that or like a piece of chocolate, I think.
SPEAKER_01For sure. But just I had well, this was gonna be my funny story. But when I was a teenager, I was eating a lot of like dates and dried fruit like that, because I was like, it's dried fruit, it's healthy. But it's still sugar. So if you eat enough of them, I just you know, I don't definitely if you're eating chocolate or like something very sweet after dinner every night, and you're like, I want to stop this, then your gateway should be frozen grapes.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. But I will say on that note, I don't buy trail mix because I don't find nuts and like dried fruit satiating.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then you eat it.
SPEAKER_03And then I just eat an entire bag, which is just like an insane amount. Like I can chop up nuts and put them into my salad and whatever. Yeah. But just like I don't get the people who are like, I had 12 almonds and now I'm full.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I don't like I don't not believe you. It's just I don't get satiated from nuts quick enough that I will eat a bag of almonds and just be like, no.
SPEAKER_01I eat anything and we're good. Um do you think that snacking can ever like do you think it can ever be healthy or is it always a problem?
SPEAKER_02I don't know if I consider it a problem.
SPEAKER_03I've had phases where I'm like, I should stop snacking, it's unhealthy. I love snacking.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Is it healthy? Probably not. Would it be better for you if you just had a few meals and like properly ate during your meals? I assume so.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. See, I kind of think if you snack all the time, then that is a bit of a problem because then you're just not thinking about what you put into your body. But on the other hand, I have a pretty fast metabolism.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So, I mean, I just get hungry quickly, basically. Um, so I don't really last from lunch until dinner. Yeah. I get really hungry at a long time.
SPEAKER_03It's a long time, too.
SPEAKER_01It's a long time. And then I tried to not snack for a while, but I would end up not preparing for when I would get hungry, and then I would just eat stupid stuff. Yep. So I kind of think you can look at them as like mini in-between meals. Yeah. And then I I honestly think it's fine, and you don't have to feel like the problem is if snacking's always a bad thing, then maybe you start to feel bad about snacking. Yeah. And now I know when I get home I'm gonna want something before dinner. And that's why I found like that's how I found these like rice cakes with cottage cheese. I used to be like, oh, I'm not that hungry, I'll just have something small, and then I'd eat like a thousand small things. Yeah. And in the end, I would have had a meal.
SPEAKER_03Or you would come home. Do you remember your snack when you were a teenager?
SPEAKER_01Salami and cheese. But like ridiculous chunks of salami and chunks of cheese.
SPEAKER_02It was the most bizarre snack I've ever seen.
SPEAKER_01Delicious. Crackers.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. No, I agree. I think I think it is good to sometimes go past that feeling of hunger. Yeah. Because sometimes it's like, oh my god, I need to eat right now, and then 20 minutes later you're not hungry anymore. And that's quite interesting, and I don't really know exactly why that happens, but I think it's good to sometimes not give in to hunger. But also. Like when I get home, I'm super hungry. And either I cook dinner right away or I eat something small because I want to work out and then have dinner. Yeah. Or like want to do something else and then have dinner.
SPEAKER_01Um that super hungry thing that you said that could be um because of your glucose levels. If you eat um so there's this book that's called The Glucose Trick, and Julia and I, my the girl that lives with me. My friend that lives with me, um, are just random lady that lives with random lady that lives with me. We're kind of Victoria. We give you the address on her. Um she well, we're into the book, and basically to like put it in a nutshell, if you eat sugar or carbs on an empty stomach, your glucose levels or your blood sugar level will rise and then it'll cause it to crash.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And when it crashes, you'll get super hungry.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I don't think that's the case for me because it's usually after I've eaten like salad and protein.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_03And so I'm trying to figure out I think there's something missing in my diet. Yeah. And my body's craving something, and I can't figure out what it is. Yeah. I'm pretty sure it's still pickles.
SPEAKER_01Probably. It's always still pickles. But basically, like this goes into snacking. I was gonna mention it at some point anyway. I try to make snacking a bit more healthy or maybe like more sustainable. I try not to go for a sugary thing when I'm that hungry. And then I tell myself I can eat the chocolate, but once I've had something that's better for me, and it's led to me eating way less. I do that in general with meals as well.
SPEAKER_03Like I can have this pasta, but I'm gonna eat a salad first. Yeah. Wait 10 minutes and then eat the pasta because then I'm not as hungry. I also heard a good rule once, and it's something that I think of often when I'm like, I'm snacking too much, is when I'm hungry, am I hungry for an apple? Because, like you said, an apple is kind of a boring snack. And if you're not hungry for an apple, are you really hungry? Oh, that's a good one. Because sometimes you just want like whatever. Yeah. And if you're really hungry, you'll eat an apple. Yeah. You don't care. Yeah. And so sometimes I'm like, do I want an apple right now? And if the answer is no, then I'm like, hmm, am I really hungry?
SPEAKER_01Or are you thirsty? Or am I thirsty?
SPEAKER_03I'm a thirsty biotch.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she's always thirsty.
SPEAKER_03Should we go through our favorite snacks and then and then homework? Yeah. Okay. I have so many favorite snacks.
SPEAKER_01I saw. Okay, so you have baby carrots, which you already mentioned. Yes.
SPEAKER_03Cherry tomatoes.
SPEAKER_01Yum.
SPEAKER_03And cucumber.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I love cucumber. That's the best.
SPEAKER_03Rice cake.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, I a little side note, I worked with um somebody who used to work in childcare, and she said that rice cakes aren't good for little kids for toddlers because they have a high level of arsenic in it, and apparently that's bad for toddlers. So just PSA for the moms. Yeah, it's bad for anyone, but for the toddlers it can be more dangerous. See, this is the problem.
SPEAKER_03Like everything everything you eat eventually is gonna have some bad thing in it.
SPEAKER_02Like, but you can switch to baby carrots have lead in them or something, you know?
SPEAKER_01It's just yeah, I mean in the end you can't do anything right, but the arsenic is not good for toddlers. But then I did Google it. I Googled, is um are corn cakes better than rice cakes? And the internet was like essentially no, because corn cakes have a high level of um sodium in them. So I mean, similar. Yeah. But for toddlers, maybe not so many rice cakes if you can't.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Um there are these new like sour dates that are from Denmark or something. Boah, those are so good. And like they're kind of like gummy bears, but I cannot eat a lot of them. Yeah, yeah, they're more intense. They're very intense, and then like after a few, you're like, okay. Yeah. Also, I'm very aware that I'm eating dates. I feel like we've already talked about this once on a podcast. Anyway. Possible. Um watermelon. Watermelon. Jeremy likes her watermelon. Write this down, but like bread and butter and salt. I know it's not a healthy snack, but that's her snack. When Tarek was in baking school, he would bake bread, and sometimes we would just eat fresh and salt. Like it's not healthy, but it's also not the worst. It's delicious.
SPEAKER_01Sometimes I'll come home, have some sourdough with honey, and then cottage cheese. Yeah, yeah. Delicious.
SPEAKER_03Um yeah, long list. I also like, like, I like flavored drinks. That I would say is kind of one of my my difficulties. Um, but I also like like lemon water, which is bubbly water. Yeah, same. Or like tea.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. Um yeah. I think you named all the ones that I like also, and I mentioned mine before. So I'm with you on that. Apple and and um peanut butter. Oh yeah. I really like we have homework again this week. Yes. This one makes it. It's a little sad, I know.
SPEAKER_02Gonna have to check out my animal crackers. I think they're healthy, but I know they're not.
SPEAKER_01We all have a go-to snack. Mine for a long time was rice cakes with yogurt covered. They say yogurt, but it's white chocolate basically. Yeah. Y'all. Um, and I think we should all take a look at our store-bought store-bought favorite snack and just look at the back just to see what's in it. And then assess. Maybe you look at the back and you're like, okay, I knew it was gonna be like this. I still love it enough to eat it. Yeah, fine. Maybe you look at the back and you're like, oh damn, I did not realize that there was so many E's or so much sugar or whatever. Maybe I can find the same thing with a bit less.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Not saying you should give up anything, but just look at the back. Check the ingredients, maybe find something. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's sad at homework, but I'll do it. It is. No, it's good. It's good to know what you're putting in your body.
SPEAKER_01It's more that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Just and being okay with it either way.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Funny stories.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna I already told it kind of, but there's more to the story. Yes. When I was a teenager, I was trying to like get into healthy eating, and so I started to eat a lot of nuts and dates and prunes. And um one of my siblings' girlfriends at the time, she was doing she was doing like a nutritionalist something. Yeah, like an online course. Yeah, and so she asked if we wanted to, like if she could practice with us, kind of thing, and then we had to write down what we ate in a day. And so I wrote down for a week, and I wrote it down and I gave it to her, and she was like, Yeah, well, how do you feel? blah blah. And I was like, you know, I feel a little bloated at times, and like very gassy. And then she looked at what I was eating, and she's like, Yeah, so generally you're doing well, but you are eating a lot of dried fruit, and it's probably the cause of your gassiness. So yeah, I gave it up almost cold turkey, and it got better. Nice. That being said, I have bought dates again now, years later. Oh, I love dates. I treat it more as a candy than something healthy. Dates in the freezer. When it's hot, yum, I'm telling you. It's like a little ice cream, not it's not really an ice cream, like let's not lie to ourselves, but it's like a little sweet, cold snack.
SPEAKER_03So I've come up with a new rule for myself. I've come up with this rule multiple times for myself. Okay. Uh it's that I shouldn't have snacks at the place that I work. Yeah. Like at my desk. Yeah. I can put them in the kitchen, I can put them in the shrunk, whatever. Drawer. Drawer, sorry. That's like one of our jingle shorts.
SPEAKER_02Um, but the other day I had this like bag of animal crackers on my desk, and I had eaten a salad for lunch, so obviously around three o'clock I was super hungry again.
SPEAKER_03And I had my AirPods in, but I was just like munching away while I worked.
SPEAKER_02And at one point, the girl across from me goes, Amy. And like tilts over, so we both are looking at each other from from the computer, and she's like, Witch snacking up. I was like, Oh my god, it's a little bit business. She's like, every few seconds like you just hear.
SPEAKER_01I was like, oh no. What a nice way to say that though. Hey girl, what just snacking up?
SPEAKER_02It was such a nice reminder of like you are eating right now and working, and I was so like in my zone, and then I put them away. Um, I very much appreciated it. It was such a sweet call-out, too. Like it wasn't she wasn't calling me out, like she genuinely framed it as like, what are you snacking on?
unknownYou seem to be enjoying it.
SPEAKER_01Sounds like it's delicious. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I was like, no more snack on my dish.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's a hard one to resist snacks while your brain is preoccupied. It's like snacking in front of the TV. Yeah. Same set. So fun. So fun. Yeah, you know those kick at balls that I said are not good? Oh. We ate the whole pack.
SPEAKER_02Of course you did. Sometimes Tarek and I are just like, what should we do for dinner? Should we schmand?
SPEAKER_01Girl dinner. Um, yeah. It's probably not healthy, but not everything in life's supposed to be healthy. Some things are just for enjoyment.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so I agree.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_03And on that note, go eat some popcorn.
