Too True Crime
Since 2020, there have been at least 580 women and girls killed by men in acts of gender-related violence across the country. This is called femicide. Too True Crime is a podcast series designed to show the relentless regularity of femicide in Canada with an episode for each woman or girl who has died by femicide in Canada in the past six years.
Join the Canadian Femicide Observatory for Justice and Accountability in calling on the Canadian Federal Government to officially recognize femicide and to work toward including femicide in the Criminal Code of Canada.

As we wrap up this podcast series, we want to thank all who listened, signed the petition, or got involved. Femicide is not entertainment, it's an epidemic.
When we started this podcast, our goal was to have the federal government recognize "femicide" in the criminal code. We are proud to share that on December 9, 2025, the government tabled the Protecting Victims Act, officially incorporating "femicide" into the Criminal Code of Canada.
We know that even though this podcast is ending, femicides continue to happen, each woman's story as important as the next. We hope that you’ll continue to support the work of the Canadian Femicide Observatory for Justice and Accountability at FemicideinCanada.ca.

Hello, my name's Myrna Dawson, the founder and director of the Canadian Femicide Observatory for Justice and Accountability. Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to Two True Crime. We launched the podcast with 580 episodes, one for each confirmed femicide since 2020. We've continued to release episodes as femicides were reported across Canada. For many, this podcast was hard to listen to. There are too many episodes. It's sadly repetitive, and it's not written to be entertaining. But that's the point. Femicide isn't entertainment, it's an epidemic. Our plan was never to continue this podcast, but to give a glimpse into just how widespread and frequent femicide is in this country, and to call on the government to officially include femicide in the Criminal Code of Canada. We are proud to share that on December 9, 2025, the government tabled the Protecting Victims Act, officially incorporating FEMICI into the Criminal Code of Canada. While this bill is only a first step, it creates a vital foundation for adequate penalties and better protection for women. While this podcast is ending, we hope that you'll continue to support the work of the Canadian Femicide Observatory for Justice and Accountability at FemicideInCanada.ca. Thank you.
