In this episode of The Draw, hosts Nathan and Brian recap quite the week of golf, from Leonie Harm's emotional win in Germany to a winner finally emerging at the PGA Championship to Lottie Woad adding to her resume.
Harm was given less than 1% chance to live after being hit by a drunk driver. 13 years later, she birdied her last two holes to win her first professional event.
Lottie Woad ran away with the Kroger Queen City Championship to earn her second LPGA Tour title. She's aiming for the Solheim Cup team this fall, and this win certainly boosted her to the middle of the qualifying pack.
The hosts then dive into the chaos that was the 2026 PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club, where there were so many leaders throughout the four days that it was only in Aaron Rai's last 5 holes that golf fans finally saw a prospective winner emerging.
Lastly, Nathan and Brian preview the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco, the Soudal Open in Belgium and the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in Dallas, Texas, this week.

Hello and welcome back to the Draw Fairy to Green podcast. And I'm gonna say it was an emotional week of golf this past weekend. I mean, we had some winners, unexpected winner to major. And I think maybe the best story in golf this year, I know probably two months ago in Anthony Kim, I said there's not gonna be a better win in professional golf, and I was proven wrong. I just not that what Anthony King Kim came back from isn't bad and what he did is amazing, but I think the winner on the ladies' European tour this week, her story is just incredible. And if you want to talk about it, because you wrote the article on our website about it, like go
Leonie Harm's Ultimate Comeback
SPEAKER_00ahead.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So as you mentioned, it's been a great year for stories, comebacks. Anthony Kim, Gary Woodland, and now this week on the European tour, we have Leone Harm. And she won the Amone German Masters for her first professional win. And the big story this week is, you know, I think when she was a teenager over a decade ago, I'm pretty sure, she was hit by a car, you know, at five in the morning when she was going for a run. And the doctors' paramedics on the scene gave her less than one percent chance of living, which was it's obviously a very tragic thing and very sad thing. And, you know, she actually made almost a full recovery from that and continued her golfing career. She won a couple amateur championships, actually, quite a few amateur championships, and then she turned pro into in 2020, and now she's on the ladies' European tour, and she, you know, she birdied 17 and birded 18 to win her first uh ladies' European tour win and her first professional win. So outstanding story this week. We had a pretty big story with Aaron Rye winning PA championship. We'll get into that, but you know, arguably an even better story on the European tour this week.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I was scrolling Twitter before or during the final round, and I think it was Beth and Nichols who tweeted it out, and like I had to like read the tweet a couple times and like make sure I was like, wait, she was in a coma and came out, and like now she's a win. Like, it is just a remarkable store story of perseverance and being resilient, and it sets her up for I mean, the sky is now the limit. You get the first win on the ladies European tour, you're looking to move up the merit order merit there, and hopefully one day get on the LPJ tour, and then who knows from there. I just I mean, not just for her, but her family and friends to be the ones who had to see her go through it and almost quit the game of golf. I was reading, and to get, I mean, again, nothing against Anthony Kim, but I I think for sure when I say it this time, I don't think there would be a more profound comeback story this year on any tour. Again, the Gary Woodland one was amazing too, but just to be given a 1% chance to live and to come back and play any professional sport and then win, it's remarkable. I there I don't know if there's another word for it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, at that point after the accident, you're not worried about golf, you're not worried about anything else. The only thing you're worried about is, you know, your life and being able to, you know, live another day. And she there she is, and she's lifting the trophy on Sunday. And, you know, to add on to that, the European, the latest European tour, that finish on Sunday morning was it was an excellent finish. You had uh Cassandra Alexander from South Africa. You know, she took the lead last few holes, and it looked like she was gonna win, just fully looked like she was gonna win. Alexandra Foursterling, who was my pick to win the tournament last week. She took the lead into the final day, didn't have her best stuff. She tried to, you know, showed a little signs coming back, and then she dumped one of the water on 17 and wasn't really great. But then Leone Harm came charging back and you know kiss Sandra Alexander. Pretty crazy stat here. This was her fifth runner-up this season on the European tour. So still looking for that first win. The broadcast was all about is this the week? Is this the week? Her caddy was really confident, and then Leone Harm just comes through with birdies on 17 and 18, made some really nice putts there and won the tournament.
SPEAKER_00It was an excellent day of golf sun. I mean, this one, this story, this finish
Lottie Woad Wins the Kroger Queen City Championship
SPEAKER_00was great. And we'll go over to the LPJ tour now and the Kroger Queen City Championship over in Cincinnati. Lottie Wode picking up her second career LPG tour win. It's just one of another young phenom on this tour with multiple wins. And she won in 2025 for her first one. She now has two wins and 19 career starts. She's the fastest person to do that since Sungwan Park, who did it in 16 starts. And the accolades were there as an amateur, and then to come out and win quickly and then win again. I mean, there's a ton of pressure when you're the best amateur in the world, and then she's backed it up since turning professional with two wins. And again, it was another good tournament. It was a good leaderboard. She beat some really good names in a state. I mean, we mentioned it. Nellie Corter, Gino, Miyama Shida, like all of them were there, and the young gun Lottie Wood was better than them all this week.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the conversation going into this week was Gino and Nellie. I know we talked about it. I picked Nellie, you picked Gino because you know, number one, number two, Nellie has three wins, Gino has two, won the week before. So naturally, the conversation was about those two. And then Lottie Woe, don't forget about her. She won as an amateur on the European tour, then turned professional, won the next week on the LPGA tour. And then this season, she's having a very good season as well. She has four top tens this season. So she has not played poorly by any means. And with the stacked field this week, she I know she mentioned in her press conference after the round was it's really hard to win out here because you have the girls, the really talented girls like Nellie and Gino, Miyuan Ishido. You have all those girls playing extremely well, week in, week out. And you know, you have to play very well to win uh LPGA tour event. And she got it done this week. I'm expecting more big things from her this season because she's very good and don't forget about her.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, I mean just 21 birdies, second most in the field, only seven bogeys, third lowest in the field. I mean, if you're trying to win a golf tournament, make birdies, don't make bogeys. And she did that, and again, it's it she beat out it. It's I know it's not a major and all that, but it's as close as a major field as you're gonna get. And to stand up top, like well, I think she's now tenth in the Rolex rankings. I'm reading, so and again, that made nine cuts and ten starts, three other top tens out beside this one. It's just she's gonna be a force for years to come out of the PJ tour, and then I mean the Solheim Cup, she's obviously gonna she we'll see how she plays there. She's gotta be on the team at this point. Like I don't I'm not gonna call her a shoe-in, but she probably is a shoe-in. And so that'll be interesting. So, how she plays there in kind of that event, because it's a different environment as we've seen in the Ryder Cup and in past Solheim Cups before. So I think it's gonna be it's setting up for a great year. And again, we I say it, you say it like when the younger stars come out and they win right away, it makes the LPGA tour better and deeper, like what we saw last year with Miyama Shida finishing second player of the year in her rookie year. It's just it creates for fun storylines, and it's like you said, it's she will she could win multiple more times this year.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, 100%. And there's so many talented girls on the LPGA tour that anyone could win week in and week out. Nellie and Gino have been dominant, but I don't know if that's gonna continue as the season continues, and it'll be really interesting to see with the majors coming up. Still have they still yeah, they still have four majors left you know for the season. So it's really anyone, not I mean, it's anyone's butt you know, the top players we always look at and expect big things from Nellie and Gino, too. But all these talented girls coming up, and it could really be any of those if they get hot that week and they're in really good form.
Aaron Rai's Breakthrough
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, it must have been a great day for someone from the country of England because you had her winning the LPG tour event, and then like we mentioned earlier, you mentioned earlier, Aaron Rye winning the PJ Championship Englishman. He's the first Englishman to win the PJ Championship since 19. I mean, that is it's a I like read that. I'm like, there's no way you're telling me Luke Donald didn't, Justin Rose hadn't. I mean, just Nick Powell, like so many great English golfers, and not one has captured the PJ Championship. And I thought the term was great. We can talk about it now or we can discuss it after we discuss Aaron's victory
Debating the PGA Championship Course Setup at Aronimink
SPEAKER_00right now. I'm I would love to. I'm let I want to what your opinion on the golf course was it too hard? Did you like it? Let me hear. I want to hear your opinion first.
SPEAKER_01I know the PGA of America has been getting a lot of slack because the tournament they set up was more like the US Open. And my opinion on this is I think the PGA of America did an excellent job this week. I think making the tournament very hard, the course extremely hard, tough pin locations the first two days, made it like a US Open the first two days. Give the PGA championship some bite back, if they will. And because usually, you know, I'm not gonna say it's and it no, it is probably the easiest major of the three, relative, you know, depending on conditions. Like the last few ones, you know, the last few the winning score has been double digits, pretty down, pretty far under par, you know. So yeah, it's been pretty easy in terms of a major. And I I loved how they set it up the first two days, and then the third day, they move up the T-box on 13, make it a drivable par four, they move some pins in some more accessible locations, and you see some of these lower scores coming in for guys to have a chance to move the leaderboard going into Sunday, and then it's still a very packed leaderboard, and then Aaron Rye separates himself from the group on Sunday. Where no, there were chances for all of them to get to move up on Sunday. Rory McRoy did not play well on the par fives. John Rahm didn't really capitalize on the par fives this weekend, and that cost them. And simple as that, they had the opportunity, the field had the opportunity, and Aaron Rye played lights out on the back nine on Sunday, and he 100% deserved to win this tournament. And I have no complaints. I know we talk about guys who maybe like you know, they win a tournament so and so. Who's gonna really remember this? You know, not to throw it any shape, but Danny Willett, masters winner. Like it, I don't think he's gonna be like a Danny Willett where he'll win and then maybe kind of disappear the way that he did. I think Aaron Rye, this is his second PGA win. He wanted the window, I think, last year. Two years ago. Two years ago, yeah. So he's had his isn't it's not like his first win on tour kind of came out of nowhere. He's been a good golfer, been on the leaderboards pretty frequently. And I'm gonna I expect more wins from Aaron Rye because he obviously showed that he could be the best player in a difficult tournament.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, he won he beat Tommy Fleetwood in a playoff on a DP World Tour back in December out in Abu Dhabi, I'm pretty sure. So he only has the one DP World or the one PJ Tour, and but he has other DP World Tour wins. And like you said, I right the P the PJ Championship is, and I don't think it's a secret. I don't think I'm bashing them. Other people have said it. It's the most boring major of the four. You have the Masters, it's Augusta. You have the US Open, it's hard. You have the British Open, it's just a different style of golf. It's just another country, like it's just cool. And the PJ Championship has been lacking something. They've had great winners. Brooks Kaprika, three-time champion, Justin Thomas, two-time champion, Rory, two-time champion. Like, they've had great winners and they're at good venues for the most part. I mean, there are some ones that like Quayle Hollow, I don't know if it really needs a host major, but whatever. But Aaronamink is a great golf course. The Donald Ross design, the greens, and I think part of why it played so hard the first two days was the wind. From what I was reading, the players didn't expect this win, so it made the pin conditions tough and the greens tough. And cool, figure it out. I hated Shane Lowry's comment in Rory and Scott, like these are the toughest pins. Like, we don't want to we want to play on the same con like I think Lowry said it after the third round. We want to play the same course three days in a row, we don't want to play different conditions. Like, no, you're a PGA tour player, like you're not, it's not gonna be 20 under winning every week. I didn't I don't want to major. I don't yes, I don't want to major being 20 under. Like again, when people were predicting scores, they're like, Oh, because Keegan won here, I think in 2018 at 1900. They're like, we could probably see that again. I'm like, I don't want that. No, I didn't need nine under. I was like, if I see 12-13, that's fine. And I love that after two days, was it six under with Alex Smalley was the leader? Like, that's fantastic. Was it US Open Golf? Yeah, did I love it? Yeah, because like you said, it's a major, it's supposed to challenge you, and then you have other players who are like, No, we should be challenged. Like JT said it. He goes, It's a major championship, it's supposed to be difficult. Like, yeah, it's not the travelers' championship where your Jim Fear can shoot a 58. Like, sorry, that's a great course. I love watching that tournament. I don't need every tournament like that, and I don't need a major to be that. So give me the tough pin locations, give me the players having to be creative into the grains instead of just whatever, just a normal draw into a back right corner. Like, oh, you have to use this backstop to bring it back 15 feet to get you closer. Again, like that's what makes golf fun as a fan.
Aaron Rai Closes on Sunday
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and again, Aaron Rye on Sunday was fantastic. He is an excellent ball striker. People make fun of him for his two gloves and iron covers, all that. I get it. He's a really good player, and I thought he had an outside chance last year at the Ryder Cup to make that team, but he didn't really play well in the playoffs. I thought it was like, who's it gonna be? Is it gonna be Matty Fitz? Is it gonna be the Hogart twin? And I was like, Aaron Rodg is good, like he's a great ball striker, he can putt, and he can play with anyone, and so him winning, it's a little bit of a shock because all we talked about is Cam Young and Rory and Scotty and John Rom. Like, there are other players lurking coming into Sunday's round. John Rahm was a couple of shots back. Rory, Scotty, JT, all major champions. Cam Smith out of nowhere, right? All have won a major championship, and he outdueled them all. I mean, his eagle put on nine changed the whole tournament. From there, he would just gain confidence and made some good put, made a birdie on 13th hole, made the birdie on 16th, made the I think it was a 48 or 50 foot birdie put on 17 to just end it. I mean, JJ spawn esque at Oakmont last year, just was like, yep, no one's catching me. And like you said, there were players that didn't play well. Rom didn't play well Sunday. Rory played the par fives in even all week. You're not gonna win a major doing that. And I get it, there's only two par fives, but you're Rory Mackerel. I had no problem with the conditions. I want more PJ championships to do this. I want the players to complain a little because it's fun. And again, Aaron Rye battled, he played the same golf course all then all week, and he showed that he could handle the pressure a little better. And it was really cool to see because everyone says he's one of the hardest workers on the tour. I've never heard a bad thing about him in interviews, and he just kind of goes about his business. And again, I think you're right. I don't think he's gonna be Danny Willett. Sorry, Danny Willett, but I think he already has a win, like you mentioned, and just winning a major like this gives you a lot more confidence. You saw JJ Spawn play well down the stretch last year and into the Ryder Cup and he picked up another one this year. Like to me, JJ Spawn and Aaron Rye are very similar. All right, they're not the longest hitters, they're good ball strikers. If their putters are on, they're gonna win. And they're it's a very similar comparison, those two in these two majors, but it was it was a great story for Rye to pick it up.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, 100%. And I wanted to talk about the course just a little more. And then so I was listening to Max Homa talk on well, first, uh, I know we talked about last week to preview the tournament, was there were no trees, kind of not many trees on the course. And what we wanted to see was the rough and the greens, and this week I think that players were fully penalized for not hitting fairways, which I love to see because usually a lot of players they get away with just smacking it up there 340 yards, and you know, they have a witch, the green, and they can keep doing that. Doesn't matter, they're not really penalized for hitting in the rough. And this week you saw guys like hitting shots, he bumping them up there, having a punch out, kind of running up to the green, which I love to see. And then Max Homo was talking about uh I forget which podcast he was on, but he was talking about kind of the pins, and some of the pins they had this week, you couldn't go at the hole at all. You had the best that you could do was you had 15 like 15 or 20 feet up a hill for Birdie because you that's what the course was giving you. And if you went at it, you were in a tough spot. You could see some of the chips Chris Goddard was along. I don't know if you probably saw his flop shot that he had that he hit that was excellent, but he was almost off of the green after that shot. So I think the PGA of America did an excellent job with the pin locations, the rough. I think they nailed it this week. And on to Aaron Rye, as you said, I think everyone, I think who was it, Rory or Ludwig. They said that you know, no one really is gonna be upset. No, you can't, everyone's gonna be pretty happy for Aaron Rye that he's won this week because Aaron Rye is one of the nicest guys on tour. I've heard a lot of really good stories about him the last few days as a result of this win. And he has the two gloves and he has the iron covers, but you know, I think that's all part of his story because you know that he said he grew up and golf is obviously an expensive sport, and uh when he had these things, he took care of them, and I respect that. And I think and now that he has money as a pro, he still leans into the things that he was when he was a kid growing up. So I love that. And I hope to see more of Aaron Rye in the future, and I'm excited to see how he plays for you know the next few years, just the rest of his career. Yeah, it just it was a really cool win.
SPEAKER_00And John Rahm, you know, he played well, comes up short. JT posts a number, I think he shoots five under in the final round. And at one point during the final round, I'm like, is that gonna hold? Is it gonna be a playoff? And then Rai kind of took off. So good showing for him, you know, especially coming from back sort of. He's started to find some form of late, but still feeling his way out. Ludwig
Aberg's Near Miss at the Major
SPEAKER_00Oberg, another top five finish in a major, and I think he's finished like top five now in like three straight events and or maybe four now. It just he hasn't got over the hump, and it's not a bad thing. It's not like he's putting himself in contention every week. That's great. But it's just like, all right, when are you gonna win? Because he's played well, and it's just his putter fails him, and I it is when it clicks, it it's gonna click, and I think he'll win a couple times. But man, there there's just he has so much talent, and I just he leaves me wanting more.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, whenever it seems as if whenever he goes through the top of the leaderboard on a Sunday, it just the putter is turns into me, no offense on the putting green, just is missing putts that you know for a tour player and someone that we've seen before who should be making who could be converting a few more of these birdie putts, a few more of these par putts, and he just he did he doesn't capitalize on his opportunities. I think there was a stat during this round where he didn't make a putt over nine feet for however many holes. It was a surprising amount of holes where he couldn't make a putt, and it showed he strikes the ball amazingly, you know, a really pure swing, really good. But then yeah, it just whenever he gets to the top, it's disappointing. And as you say, I leaving what you want, you leave it, he expects you you want more from Ludwig Oberg.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, they were Rory, Scotty. There's a lot of disappointing finishes this week, but Aaron Rye did not have one of them, and you know, he gets a nice five-year exemption on the PJ tour, gets in all the majors for the next five years and the players for the next five years. So, I mean, it's life-changing win. It's the biggest paycheck of his career and sets him up for, I mean, again, five years. So he doesn't have to worry about his job status for five years, and that is just it eases a player's mind and they play better almost knowing that they're safe for five years. So great to him. Congratulations
Preview and Picks for This Week
SPEAKER_00to him. On to this week. There's three tournaments, no LPGA event this week. They're off and then they're back on next week. We're gonna start with the ladies' European tour out in Morocco, the La La Marim Cup. All right, it's 54 holes only this week. Is it always only 54 holes or just this week? 54 holes? No, I believe just this week. I think they they usually play four rounds. Okay, again, it's designed. The golf course is designed by Robert Trent Jones. That's pretty cool. Again, it's in the kingdom of Morocco. There are two past champions in the field, Kara Garek Gaynor and Clara Davidson Spirkova, both in the field. There are a couple winners from this year's events, including Leone Harm from last week. Who's your pick this week, Brian?
SPEAKER_01We're going with Sarah Kuskova. She won an event on the European tour last season, and she was kind of and she was near the top of the leaderboard last week. So I believe she'll carry over her good play into this week. And uh I think I don't think she's won this year on European tour. So I believe she'll get her first win this season. This win. Her first win this week.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. All right. My my pick's Kelsey Bennett. She won the Australian women's classic this year already. So go to someone who's in form, and that's I think a big deal, especially when playing. I was tempted to pick Leona Harm again, just to create a crazier storyline. Just, you know, once you get that first win, it's a big monkey off your back, and maybe she continues to play well. Over on the DP World Tour, we have the Sedul Open. It is in Belgium, it's Belgium's national open. It has a pretty good field. I mean, Thomas Dietrich, former PJ Tour winner, live golfer, is in the field. They have a whole bunch of DP World Tour winners in the field as well. Jane Shaper, Casey Jarvis, who played in the PJ Championship this past week. They're making the journey over. Freddie Scott, Jordan Gumberg, Mikhail Lindbergh, all in the field, all previous winners. It is Nicolos Kolzart's final tournament as a DP World Tour player. For those who don't know him, he's spanned, he's played 26 years on the DP World Tour. He's won events over there and he's of Belgium, he's Belgian descent, so he's gonna make this his last tournament. And my pick for this week is a Belgium Thomas Dietrich. I mentioned him earlier. He's now on live. I was looking up his live finishes. He's fourth in the regulars, he's in standings over there, and again. They've played seven events, so I get it's not a ton. In five of them, he's finished seventh or better. So he's playing really well over there. He played poorly at the PGA championship this week. I think he finished like T83. So not great for him there. But again, playing in his home country, looking, he's never won on the DP World Tour. So he's looking for that first screw run. Thomas Dietrich's my pick over on the DP World Tour.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I have the same pick as you this week. I picked Thomas Dietrich, tournament Belgium. He is Belgian. So and he's very good. He's won he won the waste management last year, I believe. So obviously can win some big tournaments. And it's he's playing in Belgium. Not many tournaments happening over there on you know European tour. So I think he'll get it, he'll get it done this week. And for all the reasons you mentioned, his good play on Live.
SPEAKER_00The PGA tour heads down to Dallas for the CJ Cup Byron Elson. And last year, Sky Scheffler won here by eight. I don't think you're gonna see that again. So right after the tournament last year, this course went under like a major redesign. So they redid all the greens, so they put new putting services on the greens, they recontoured them to make some more whole locations available on them. They put more bunkers in, but they put them strategically, so it's not just anywhere. They put them strategically to lower the scoring because I think Scotty won last year here at 31 under, was it, or something like that? Wow. So the golf course is going to play a lot different from last year. It's a pretty good field. Sanjay M, Scotty Scheffler, Siwoo Kim, K H Lee, who's won here twice, is in the field. I'm going with another Dallas native. Give me Jordan Speith. All right. He's played in this event a whole bunch. He finished tied or he finished solo second here in 2022 and a fourth, solo fourth finish here two years ago in 2024. He made a T18 last week at Aranamink at the PGA. He's been playing better of his late, and you know, he's won in Texas before, not this event. It's only fitting for him to win this event as a Dallas native. And again, I think he finally gets over that hump and enters the winner's circle again.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so this week, uh week after a major, not really the strongest field out there. Rory McElroy not playing again. We can go on about Rory McElroy playing in one tournament before last weekend and since the Masters. But that's a whole nother conversation we can have maybe another time about the star players skipping out on tournaments, but this isn't the NBA. But for this week, uh I am gonna go. I if it's not Scotty Sheffi, I was gonna go with Scotty Shefford, but that's boring. He's the heavy favorite this week, but I won't pick him because that's boring. But and you guys are gonna think that we have the same picks, but I also have Jordan Speed this week. So we do not share picks before we record. We do not, but I've also gone with Jordan Speed this week. He he played well the first round or two at the PGA championship. His problem, he can't shrink together four good rounds. No, it always seems like something's going on. And his I looked at his stats for the season, and he is in the top half of pretty much most stats in Strokes Gate. And so he hasn't he doesn't have one big problem. His putting's actually pretty solid. He is he's 42nd in putting. So when you think of Jordan Speed, don't necessarily think putting but his stats are pretty good for putting, and I hope he can get it done. That would be great for golf Jordan Speed winning. I don't know when his last win is, but it's been seems like it's been a minute.
SPEAKER_00So maybe the RBC Heritage in 23. And then the next year he lost to Fitz in the playoff there. He's also won the Colonial, which is next week down the road in Dallas. So again, I think it's it makes a little too much sense. And again, like you said, he's driving the ball really well, which is usually his big like bugaboo. And last week the putter failed him. I think at one point he was like out of the 82 players that made the cut, he was like 77th in putting. So like if he can get that average or even the top 20, I think he has a legitimate shot. And you're gonna have to go low here. So we'll see that like if that putter can cooperate with him. But again, yeah, it'd be cool for Jordan Speeth to to re-enter that winner's circle.
