The Draw: Meet the Chacarra Siblings, Miracle at 2026 BMW International Open

In this episode of The Draw, hosts Nathan and Brian discuss South African Michael Hollick’s win at the BMW International Open. At 39-years-old, Hollick finished miraculously after nearly quitting golf to become a coach. 

On the Ladies European Tour, 23-year-old Carolina Chacarra won in her third LET start, continuing the Chacarra family’s hot streak (her brother Eugenio Chacarra is a regular winner on the DP World Tour). 

Chris Gotterup won his third event of the year at the John Deere Classic after Ben Kohles’ water ball on 18. He’s ready to defend his title at the Genesis Scottish Open this week. 

The hosts also preview the ISCO Championship and the Amundi Evian Championship.

Hello and welcome back to the Draw Affairs Agreement Podcast. And we have another major this week on the LPJ and the L L E to L E T tour. But before we get to that, let's get to the events that happened last week. And we'll start with the DP World Tour. And we have the BM Internet BMW International Open. And Michael Holleck is your winner. And it was a great finish.

Michael Hollick’s Wild Finish at the BMW International Open

I mean, he eagles the last hole to win. He makes Birdie on the 17th hole to get to one back. And then his fellow countryman, Henry DuPlessis, makes a bogey, loses his lead. Hollack comes up. It's a drive that looks like it's possibly going in the water on the left side of the fairway, stays up, and he hits the best drive of his or the best approach shot of his life. I think he said it was a five-iron from like 215 yards, rolls up to 20 feet and makes the Eagle putt. And it's just it's a crazy story because a couple years ago he quit the game of golf. He quit to become a coach at a country club in South Africa. He wasn't playing anymore. He started playing on the Sunshine Tour and he finished seventh there last year to earn a DP World tour card. And now he's a winner at nine years old. He wins his first career victory on the DP World Tour. I mean, it's just it's a fantastic story. It was a great kind of back nine from him and really cool. Another older player, just like we had last week on the ladies' European tour, you know, pick up that first win late in their career.

Yeah, and the year of the stories continues with Michael Hollock winning on the DP World Tour, another South African win. Seems like every other week, someone from South Africa is winning, Casey Jarvis, you're uh Kremwell, who you know had that record-breaking win. So a lot of very talented guys from South Africa, which is crazy because we don't really see many of them on the PGA tour. So it's very cool to see. You know, obviously, I think Gary Player and Louis. Yeah. There's a couple guys from there from you know, not this generation, but you know, it's very cool to see. Obviously, he's 38 years old, so probably not gonna see him on the PGA tour for at all. If but if it'd be very cool, but but uh you know, very cool story this week. I saw Birdweiser, and I know you've mentioned him. I think maybe that was I think that might have been your pick last week. I saw him on the top of their leaderboard, but unfortunately, I couldn't get it done. But yeah, good week on the DP World Tour. You know, we've got two tournaments this weekend, so I know you'll get into that. Read Dathan's story articles, and but we'll get into that later and you know, another another good week.

LET Rookie Carolina Chacarra's Breakthrough

event and from one rookie to the next on the ladies' European tour. This one, a little bit younger, 23-year-old Carolina Chachara wins her first time, first career victory on the Ladies European Tour. And if that name sounds familiar, it's because we've talked about her brother in the last month a couple times winning back-to-back tournaments on the DP World Tour. So the Chacharas just win golf tournaments, it seems like. And I was reading about them, and it's happened since they were growing up. I guess it happened in college. Eugenio won an event in Oklahoma State. Three days later, Carolina won an event with her Wake Forest team in Florida. It just kind of she said afterwards they feed off each other's success. They want to win. And I mean, that's just a really cool moment for herself, her brother, her family, and all. I mean, she has dual status on both the LPGA and L E E T tours because of Q school. So that it just must be a great time to be a Chachara family member right now.

Oh, 100%. You know, Eugenio, he has two wins in the last month, two wins in June. And now you have Carolina winning her third start on the Ladies European tour. So crazy month over there for the Chachara family. Very talented, and you know, I we expect to see them in on the bigger on the LPGA tour and the DP on the PGA tour, excuse me. We'll we expect to see them coming up in you know the next year or two. And you know, with the how they're playing right now, it won't be very long until we see them on

Kelsey Bennett’s Final Round Slip

the big stage. And I know you know this tournament. There's a tough finish for I think it was Kelsey Bennett. She was yeah, she was leading going into the final round. She had the same thing uh a few weeks ago at the Lala Merriam cup in I believe it was in the Middle East, and she lost to N Huang. So another tough finish for her. She's winning by multiple shots going to the final round and just doesn't have her best stuff. She shot one over during the final round and she lost to Carolina Chachara. So obviously, shout out to her. She played pretty under she played very well. I think she shot five under, no bogeys, so it's a flawless round for her, and she took advantage of Kelsey Bennett not having her best stuff. And you know, that happens. And if Kelsey Bennett, she does, she has won twice this year on tour. Like she won in Australia, so not a tough season for her. And I mean, obviously, finishing runner-up with those two big leads going to the final day is very disappointing, but it's not in the grand in the big picture. This it could be worse. You know, she's made some decent money and a couple runner-ups and a win, so it's not too bad. But you know, congratulations to Carolina Chachara and you know, as we mentioned, extremely talented family, very and in a third third ladies' European tour start. So that is kind of yeah, that's you know, the week before we had our first win in 199 starts, and now we have first win in three starts.

Yeah, the game of golf is funny, like that. And I mean, with this win, Chachara gets into the women's AG open later this month, and she gets into the scholarship open as well. So she'll be playing in a major. Her brother's gonna be playing in a major over there. See, so again, pretty cool. And for Gelsley Bennett, I think I'm gonna take the blame. Each of the last two times I've picked her to win. She's had the lead and then she's lost in the final round. So, you know, if she wants to, you know, come on this podcast and talk and blame me, like I'll gladly have her on and I'll take the lumps for having her lose. But again, it's still again a really good season. A couple runner-ups, a couple wins. Good for her, but good for Carolina Chichar. And we'll see both of them, like you said, you know, playing on the LPG and the PJ tour, and it seems to be a trend. I mean, we had the Fitzpatrick's brothers this year, they both won on their respective tours and then they won together. I mean, you have the Cootie twins who are from Texas, who was ones on the PJ tour, one's on the Corn Ferry tour. So, you know, it you know, competition breeds success, and there's seeing their sibling go at and get a win makes them play better. So that's again, really

cool story. Over on the PJ tour this week, we don't have a rookie winner. We don't have a first-time winner. We have actually a winner for the third time this year in Chris Godderup, who has just become a top 15, top 10 player in the world. And I we can talk about Chris Goder up here in a sec, because there's a lot to talk about. I we gotta talk about Ben Coles, who just I'm not gonna say he lost the tournament because it was tied, but you know, you're in the middle of the fairway on the 18th green, you have a low to mid-iron in your hands, and you dunk it into the water. Now, granted, maybe if he hits the green, maybe he doesn't make Birdie win, but at least he forces a playoff. Nope, hits in the water, misses the par putt, misses that tap in, which is even more wild, and goes from T1st to T third. Max Homa gets the second place finish, his best finish in I think it said two years since the 2024 Masters when he finished T9. So good for Max Homa. It coles just is tough. I know he he kind of lost a heartbreak or two earlier in the year. I think there's the Byron Nelson where he had a shot and couldn't finish it. And now he's kind of popping between the corn ferry and this and the PJ tour. So I mean he had a shot at a life-changing moment and he just hit a really bad shot when he didn't need it.

Yeah, I know we see this a couple times this year on tour. Some guys, you know, coming down to the end of the tournament, they just don't hit the shot they want to hit. And in case for Coles, it's you know, if he's in these positions, you know, consistently, like you said at the Bayer Nelson, then then I have confidence in him that he'll get it done. He's a professional golfer, he's played golf probably most of his life, I'd have to imagine. And he's definitely if you're on the PGA tour, then you've definitely won some tournaments at some point in your career as well. So if you put yourself in these positions constantly, I feel like we have these conversations with Oberg to a different degree, you know. He's in these positions, you know, constantly, maybe to a you know, lesser degree, but if you're in these positions, then you can get it done. I think he'll convert it at some point, and you know, he's still learning, it's a growing moment,

so for sure. And then to move on to Chris Goder up, I think we all forget how good Chris Godderup is. I think we overthink it. I know last week I picked Eric Cole and he shot three over on the first round and then made the cut somehow. So yeah, definitely uh, but we're not gonna focus on that. Chris Godderup is definitely an anomaly when we look at the golfing world. He has the strangest swing, one of the strangest swings. It's like over the top, and then he also hits like push-draw cuts. Like it's very strange, but he gets it done. He has three wins on tour the season. He won twice in January and February, down in Hawaii and California. And we just I kind of just forgot about it, I'm not gonna lie. And he was the best player going in this tournament. I know we talked about like there were players like Jackson Cliven, like, sure, he's very good, but also not really it was a first start, so yeah, but Chris Godderup is very good, and he won, he's won you know a lot of different courses. We talked about, I saw it, I couldn't pull it up, but he's won the Scottish the Genesis Scottish Open. Now he's won the Giants.

A year ago, I mean a year ago, Chris Goderup was this is gonna sound mean, but he was a nobody. He was a fine PJ tour player with his one win being the Myrtle Beach one flight classic, which is an alternate event. Yes, he was the Haskins Award winner at Oklahoma, his senior. So he had the amateur pedigree, the college pedigree, but he hadn't won. He goes out and out does Rory at the Renaissance club, then has a good finish in the open, and then, like you said, Sony opened wins, waste management wins, and then he kind of has played okay, and it's like, oh, and all of a sudden here he is, shoots a fine round 62. It's like, oh yeah, like he's one of the best players in the world. He just we forgot about him.

Like we kind of just a year, like yeah, he's not you know, he's not like he kind of just goes about it, like he does, he's very unorthodox, like we mentioned. Yeah, like it kind of it's kind of crazy because he was. I wouldn't say he was in Ryder Cup talks, but his name was like thrown out there, like hey, he's in for like he was in form way, yeah. Absolutely, like he was in form. He was like, Hey, like maybe we consider maybe like there's a that's a name we talk about, obviously. Was on the team, but then goes out and wins twice in January. It's like, well, why didn't we pick him or

Max Homa's Bounce Back

so on? But I also want to talk about Max Homa because I actually really like Max Homa. He's a very fun guy, but clearly has he hasn't really had it the last couple years. We talked about two years ago so the Masters was his best finish recently, and then after that, it's kind of just been you know, not really the Max Homa we saw for a couple years where he won the Genesis and he won the Wells Fargo, but not really the Max Homa we've been used to seeing. But we kind of saw that this weekend where he shot he played very well. He I think on the back nine, he shot five or six under on Sunday to get into contention to get to 19 under. So Max Homa, I love to see that out of him. And obviously, this week he's playing in what is the Isko? It's the opposite one. He's playing in that one, but I hope to see the good play continue for Max Homa. I know we I've I see clips on my Twitter of him, you know, carrying his own bag for US Open qualifying and then you know narrowly missing it, and no more heartbreak for Max Homa, but he's a very fun guy, and I like to see him on tour, a good personality, and you know, hopefully it'll continue for Max Homa.

Yeah, I think Max is a great story because I don't and I've seen other pros do it, and Max is just one of the high profile ones, but he goes and right, he's a top 10 player in the world. Like you said, he wins at Riviera, he wins at Coyo Hollow, big time events, and he competes in majors, and then he gets rid of his coach. He goes from Titus to Puma, New Canada, and he does all these changes and just yeah, has a terrible year, and then kind of bounces back a little last year. He's got back with his coach. I think it's Mark Blackburn, if I'm not mistaken. I think is his coach. So he gets back with him and starting to play better. And Max is just everyone knows, everyone loves Max. He's one of the best guys on tour, he's one of the best guys to follow him on social media, and when they mic him up and all that. So I think when he plays golf, I think just the PJ tour and the game of golf was better. And yeah, I again I was really hoping for him. I don't mind Chris Goderup winning. I would have hated, and this is gonna sound bad. I would have hated if it was like Lucas Glover or Zach Johnson. Those were the least amount of fun outcomes I pictured. And when like Lucas Glover was up there, I'm like, oh no, like please no.

He skipped the US senior open to play this event, which I get it's a his home event and all that, but like I don't know if I'm skipping a major for the John Deere, but whatever. No, I guess good for him. Very fair to say, yeah, I don't know. But what whatever it Chris Goddard was the best player in the field, like we said, and he's from this time of year ago, he's added four PJ Tour wins. He's gotta be on the President's Cup team. Like, there's no way you're leaving him off. He's gonna play at Medina, he's gonna pair well with someone, he putts well and he hits at a mile. So again, he's gonna be one of the favorites this week at the Genesis Scottish Open because he won there last year. Good for him for playing this event and then taking a charter flight and getting over there. Like, I think he said it. He was like when he was coming out of school, they gave him a sponsor exemption, so he wants to do good by this tournament. Play it, like good for him. Props to him for playing it. Most people are already over in Scotland, getting ready, getting used to links to golf and all that. So good for Chris Godder up again. Really good win, really good player, and just one of the young tour, one of the young stars on this tour that we'll be exciting to see as he grow grows up and gets better. And you know, he's got to learn to compete in majors a little, and we'll see that I think in the future as he starts to play them more. But again, good tournament, John Deere Classic, not a bad tournament, not as good as the Travelers, but again, good. And you had Preston Stout, the NCA winner, who kind of made a late charge and kind of fell down the leaderboard on the final round, but he was up there in the top, I think, eight at one point. Blades Brown had a good performance. Jackson Corriboon didn't do too bad in his professional debut. So it's a fun, fun tournament for the young guys.

This week, like we mentioned before, we have two events on the DP World Tour and PJ Tour, they're co-sanctioned events. We'll start with the Isko Championship. It's an alternate field event, has 132 players in it. 50 of them are DP World Tour players, so they're coming over. Again, really cool. If you win, you get race to buy points and FedEx cut points. You get exempt on both tours. It's really cool partnership that the PGA tour and DP World Tour do now with the Genesis gotta shopin. Again, it's played at Hurst, Hurston, Hurstbourne Country Club down in Louisville. Last year's winner, William Mao, earned his first career victory at this event. And if you are a betting person, I am not. You may want to bet on the winning margin to be one stroke or a playoff. In nine of these event editions of this tournament out of the 10 years it's been played, the winners won by one stroke or one in a playoff. The high highest margin of victory is three strokes. So it's gonna be close. It always is for whatever reason. Again, not the greatest field because it's an opposite field event, but you got Miles Russell, the young amateur committed to Florida State. You have Jackson Koivoon again, you have Max Homa, you got Patrick Rogers, I mean Bo Hasler, a lot of these, you know, former really good players who are kind of trying to revive their career. Preston Stout's in the field again. We mentioned him a little bit earlier. So it's cool. Again, DP World Tour guys are in it. I'm gonna go with probably the most well-known person. We just spent a couple minutes talking about him. I'm gonna pick Max Oma. It's easy picking. He just finished second at the John Deere Classic, but I think him being in contention again, feeling those juices flowing. I think he goes out and finally gets that that win that he's been looking for since 2023.

Yeah, this tournament, it's certainly the opposite field tournament, no offense, but there are not the big not as many big names in the field. I was gonna go with Tom Hoagie, but then I looked at his stats, and he has been terrible. He's very good, good at him with his approach to the green, and that's about it. Yeah, no shade to Tom Hoagie, but I've seen better from Tom Hoagie, one at Pebble Beach. So not gonna pick him this week. Watch him win now. But I am gonna go. Where is it? Steven Yeager. That's who I'm going with because he played well early this season in a few tournaments, saw him up there. So I think I think he could play well in this opposite field event.

Preview & Picks: Genesis Scottish Open

change their lives. The other tournament, the signature event, it's the Genesis Scottish Open. So this is a Rolex series event over on the DP World Tour, which is just their signature event series. This field is absolutely loaded. And not only do you have the best DP World Tour guys and the best PG Tour guys, you have some of the best live guys. You have T R L Hatton, you have John Rahm, I think you have Adrian Mernonc and some other ones that are on the Live Tour that are playing in this event because they have kind of the partnership with the DP World Tour and they got rid of all those fines. So it's a really good event. Rory McElroy's one here, Robert McIntyre's run here. Mentioned Chris Godterup one here last year. It's a good warm-up before the British Open in two weeks at Royal Burkdale. You know, Brooks Kepka's in the field. It's man, I it's tough. You got Aaron Rye, who's won a major championship this year. You have Victor Hovlin, who's playing well and whose team whose soccer team is playing really well in the World Cup. So he's getting mojo from that. Is Ben playing well, but can he is he gonna win this one? I don't know. It's I don't know who's your pick this week.

Okay, this pick's gonna surprise a lot of people. However, I was looking at the list. Of course, this is probably the most honestly, it might be the most stacked field in a non-major this year. Like, this is I'm looking down the list up and down the list, and this is kind of insane. The talent and the star power that is in this tournament, and there are always big names who win this with Rory and you know Robert McIntyre. I think Scotty was pop was in the running, he didn't win, but Chris got her up. But I'm gonna go with a guy, I'm gonna go with a guy that you pick all the time. You might be able to guess it is Xander Shoffley. I think this is the first time I picked him, and this will be or one of the first time, and this will be the last time if he doesn't win. So Xander Shoffley, you better earn, you better live up to my pick this week. Not that my pick really means anything and you care about it. However, I am picking Xander Shoffley this week, and you know what? He gets one chance for me. He won the open, so he's he can play the Lynx golf. That was here he won the open and the PGA. And still can't believe that. Well, now that he's playing what he's playing now. No offense, but yeah, you get it. Yeah, I'm excited to watch his tournament this week, though, for sure, even though it does start yet very early out. Yeah, but I'll catch the end of it.

be really cool. The best tournament of the week, though, is over on the LPG Tour and the Lazy European Tour. We have the a Monday Evian Championship at Evian Resort Golf Club in France. It is another major on the women's side, and again, we're talking about stacked field. This is obviously gonna be a stacked field for a major. You have the best players in the world. You have Haran Riu, who's coming off the last major one. You have Nellie Corter, who's won. Grace Kim is the defending champ. She won recently in a team event, if I'm not mistaken. Again, it's always fun, always good tournament. I'm gonna go, and I know this is shocking because I've been hard on her in the majors. I'm gonna go with Gino. Gino to win her first major. She finished second here last year to Grace Kim. She lost in a playoff to an Eagle on the second hole. She played better at the last major. I think she finished in the top 10. So give me Gino to win her first career major.

Yeah, so the Eviana's this week, they play at this course every single year. This is kind of like the European kind of masters on the LPGA tour. So very cool, very stacked field. And you know, Grace Kim. I'm actually, you know what? I'm gonna, I'm gonna save the Grace Kim what I was talking about last year, because I'm gonna go to my pick and I'm gonna pick the same person you picked. I'm gonna go with Gino. I think I wrote about her last year in my preview. I you know, I highlighted her, and she probably she should have won last year. She absolutely should have won. But Grace Kim made Eagle on the last hole, then on the first playoff hole, hit it in the water, and then hold out for Birdie to you know extend the playoff, and then made eagle on the other playoff hole. So she went eagle birdie eagle. So unbelievable finish, and Gino kind of kind of got robbed, honestly. Like, I don't know what you do about that. You if you can do anything about that, she hits in the water and still holds out for birdie. So so Grace Kim, you know, she's what she won last year, but I don't know how well she's played this year. But I have Gino back to your point. Gino finished, you know, kind of the top, I think she was in the top 15 last major at the PGA, and she would think she was another top 20 at the US Women's Open. So she's kind of been hanging around, still doesn't have that first major, though. Like she has it's multiple. I don't I forget how many PGA tour wins, but she has a bunch of PGA LPGA tour wins. Sorry, and she has won the tour championship twice. So she has won that the big money tournament of the LPGA tour. She's won that twice the last two years. So she's just missing a major. That's all she is missing in her career, is that major. And I think she gets it this week. She has played well. The story is all building up to this moment, and I think Gina's gonna be done. Nellie Corda is going for the career grand slam. She has three of the five. Not the she uh she can go for the career, she can go for like the ultimate grand slam if she wins this major and the AIG Women's Open in a few weeks. But she's going for the career grand slam right now for four. But I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm not gonna pick Nelly Corda. I picked her, I think, first three, so pretty shocked there. But I'm also going with the world number two, so I'm also very boring. So, but I think Gino gets it done.

Yeah, I mean, she's gonna have to beat Nellie and Lottie Wood and Brooke Henderson and Minji Lee and defending champ Grace Kim. Like, it's not gonna come easy, but you know what? When we were talking in January, she had just come off winning the tour championship again, and she's undeniably the best player in the world right now. And then Nellie's had the start to the year that maybe no one saw coming, other than maybe Nellie. And I don't even know if Nelly saw this coming, to be honest. Like, what she's done is wild, and yeah, we could pick her, and it wouldn't be a shock if come Sunday she has her what fourth, fifth career major, and she has the career grand same. Like, that's not shocking at all. What's shocking is how bad Gino has been recent majors, you know. Last year, again, you lose the Eagle Birdie Eagle. There's no shame in that. You finished T, I think it was T ninth in the last major, so she's played well, like we've said, it's gotta happen at some point, just like it happened. It took years for Phil to win, it took years for other players to win majors. Like it's not always easy, but again, it's a really cool field. If you're trying to watch golf and good golf, you're gonna have to be real, really good at waking up early in the morning because you know, being in France, this one, and then the Genesis Scottish Open being in Scotland. If you don't mind waking up early, you're gonna be able to watch some really good golf at some really good golf courses as well. So do that again.
